PEARL THE GIRL – ‘MR INFORMATIVE’ SINGLE RELEASE + LAUNCH

by the partae December 11, 2018
written by the partae

“Punchy, upbeat pop-rock, that channels early Kate Nash, or even Lily Allen…An artist that continues to evolve into something entirely her own.” – Purple Sneakers (2018)

Stream ‘Mr Informative’ here

Australian actress Pearl Herbert is already a familiar face on Australian television thanks to her roles in cult shows like Puberty Blues and Home and Away. These days, the actress plays to a different ‘tune’, in her real-life role as talented indie pop-rock artist Pearl the Girl.

With her star already on the rise following the recent well-received debut single I Hate You, today Pearl the Girl is proud to share her second official single, Mr Informative, along with news that she will release her debut album, and tour it nationally, early next year.

The Mr Informative single, which was premiered on Scenestr, is bursting with the personality you’d expect of an actress-turned-musician, and likewise sees Pearl continue to evolve her songwriting ability, whilst retaining the sense of immediacy that’s characterized her output to date. Listeners of Mr Informative will find much to revel in: the track’s late noughties, kitchen-sink pop vibe is complemented with a touch of rock spunk; and calls to mind the fun and forthright style of female artists such as Lily Allen or Kate Nash. The track was created with the help of Dan Mac from Art vs. Science, and Simon Berkfinger from Philadelphia Grand Jury (mixing & mastering), Luke Gerber (bass) and Dan Williams (Drums).

Mr Informative is a song “for all the lonely people who love to be right and forever push away their loved ones, without ever realizing,” as the singer songwriter herself explains, “Lyrically, ‘Mr Informative’ is the song you fantasise about screaming in the face of your ex-lover, the best friend that let you down, your boss and authority figures in your life that appear to revel in your mistakes.” As a songwriter, Pearl’s songs are marked by contrast: equal times cynical and optimistic, vulnerable and raw, yet still contain a dash of flirtatious moxy – she eloquently documents the relatable realities of the day to day anxieties of modern relationships and broaches larger questions about human behavior, clothing them in her spry and melodic music style.

The artist, who has been making music for 10 years now, starting out singing with her Dad’s band at the tender age of 8 years old, before training formally as a performer and touring as a child actress in musicals, has been performing live with her band regularly in pubs and bars across Sydney this past year. Pearl will launch the Mr Informative single this month at the Oxford Art Factory, backed by a full live band including Jeremy Ford and Henry Manuel on guitars, Tim Sampson on bass and Elias Vilches on drums. Of the new live show, Pearl says “expect a lot of attitude (and for me to get a sore neck!)”.

Pearl the Girl’s forthcoming album – that will feature both previously released singles I Hate You and Mr Informative, along with a third single – marks the accumulation of a lot of perseverance and dedication in its making, having been entirely self-funded by the independent artist. Fans can expect the album to surface early 2019, followed by national tour news.

BIOG:
Ásgeir released his sophomore record, ‘Afterglow’ on One Little Indian (UK) to worldwide praise from fans and critics alike. The monumental album was a career-defining moment for the musician, who’s follow up to debut album ‘In the Silence’ had been anticipated by devoted fans worldwide. A truly thoughtful musician and somewhat of a perfectionist, Ásgeir left behind the folk-tinged acoustics of his debut, crafting an intense yet pure melancholic electronica sound for his follow up. Yet the heart of the record remained quintessentially ‘Ásgeir’, with his hallmark delicate flourishes and melodic sweeps.

Winner of the 2012 Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards, ‘In the Silence’ sold so many copies that it is estimated one-tenth of the population now owns that release. The ubiquity of the album (entitled Dýrð í dauðaþögn in Iceland) also caught the attention of musician John Grant, who immediately recognised Ásgeir’s musical talent and ended up translating the lyrics into English for the international version of the album. The album became the fastest selling debut from a home-grown artist in Iceland, breaking all previous records and outselling Björk and Sigur Ros by a long way. At just 20 years of age, Ásgeir had become an overnight sensation.

The introverted and humble artist couldn’t have predicted the immensity of his success off the back of ‘In the Silence’ – coming from the Icelandic town of Laugarbakki, populated by just 40 people. The same year, Ásgeir sold out two shows at Sydney Opera House, one at Shepard’s Bush Empire and played a mesmerising show at London’s Union Chapel, which sold out months in advance. He returned to play a sold-out Koko and later, The Roundhouse, following the fantastic reception for ‘Afterglow’.

Praise for ‘Afterglow’:
“There’s a tight-knit intimacy and soulfulness to the album that feels familial and warm, even as the music itself carries a glacial chill. There’s nothing conventional or expected about Afterglow, an album that submerges all ego and blissfully loses itself in oceanic imagery and crystalline soundscapes. At the same time, the songs are instantly familiar, like old friends, departed loves, or bittersweet remembrances.” NPR

“Wonderful moments such as the chaotic creativity of “Here Comes The Wave In”, the bold ballad “New Day” and the elegiac “Hold”
Uncut

“Asgeir became the toast of Iceland with his gorgeous debut album…he’s returning with an edgier, electronic element to his sound” – Evening Standard

“Afterglow is an absolute treat for the ears, with chattering electronic melodies, glitchy stop-start sections, and warm synth swells.”
Metro

“This latest release looks to pave the way for global domination.” NOWNESS

“A taut and gleaming piece of electro-pop, R&B-smooth keys creating a reflective pool off which Ásgeir’s shimmering vocals bounce.” – Consequence of Sound

“Gorgeous trip-hop piece where he parallels the vocal stylings of Justin Vernon and the darkness of James Blake”
The Observer

“An exciting example of what’s to come, the Icelandic superstar is set to go global.”

CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘SUCH A REMARKABLE DAY’ & ANNOUNCES EP ‘TAKE 2’

by the partae December 10, 2018
written by the partae

“A full on disco stomper” – The FADER

“[‘Such A Remarkable Day’ is] a master class in synth pop, with Gainsbourg’s voice weaving in and out of SebastiAn’s blustery rhythms as the music drives relentlessly forward.” – SPIN

Charlotte Gainsbourg has returned with her new song ‘Such A Remarkable Day’, via Because Music / Caroline Australia. Written by Gainsbourg and SebastiAn, the song is the first to be taken from her new‘Take 2’ EP, which will be released this Friday, 14th December. ‘Take 2’ features three new songs and two live tracks, including a version of Kanye West‘s ‘Runaway’, and features the same musicians as her touring band.

Watch the official ‘live’ video for ‘Such A Remarkable Day’ below.

Produced by SebastiAn (Frank Ocean, Kavinsky) and mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Lorde, David Bowie), Gainsbourg’s last studio album ‘Rest’ was released in late 2017 and was her first in seven years. The album featured in Pitchfork’s Best New Music poll and was described as “gorgeous and assured” byNPR, while New York Times observed “Rest is an album that comes directly from her heart.”

The eleven songs on ‘Rest’ are nothing if not sure-footed, proffering a compelling fusion of gleaming, string-emblazoned modern electro-pop and cinematically textured avant-chanson—their magical music box melodies kissed by bruised, introspective, occasionally disquieting lyrics.

HXXS debut EP MKDRONE out now!

by the partae December 10, 2018
written by the partae

After their recent signing to esteemed label Captured Tracks, California’s HXXS are happy to release their debut EP MKDRONE out now on vinyl and digitally.

Last month the band shared first single ‘Seppuku’, the historical Japanese term for suicide by disembowelment, which came to fruition when prescription medication became the only reprieve for an inoperable tooth infection that had one member sliding between unbearable pain and prescription-induced euphoria. Watch the video below.

HXXS are the duo of Jeannie Colleene and Gavin Neves. They got their start in a cramped San Jose warehouse, sharing a wall with a porn studio. Despite their vocal takes periodically interrupted by even louder and harsher vocal takes echoing in the halls, MKDRONE soon came together.  HXXS live somewhere between the uncomfortable and the alluring. Their live show, which consists of any hardware they can get their hands on – drum machines, synthesizers, samplers – is built on loops, making the songs feverish and at times deliberately frenzied to a point of anxiety. However the duo anesthetize this angst with more subdued nods to electronic and post-punk acts of the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s and present.

SwiftBoi is bulldozing the way for Aussie female Hip Hop!

by the partae December 10, 2018
written by the partae

Tassie-born, Sydney-based Hip Hop artist, SwiftBoi isn’t for the faint-hearted.

She’s fierce, she’s fiesty and she’s facedly honest. It just so happens that she spits rhymes faster than any of the of her Aussie Hip Hop counterparts, with a kind of endearing realness, cheek and wit that would make a grown man blush.

You see SwiftBoi may be raw, but she is well-seasoned. She has seen it, heard it and done it all before.

Having performed on stages all over Australia since she was a 12 year old, starting in bars in Outback Western Australia, SwiftBoi has had the kind of life experiences that breed the most genuine of artists.

When she was 16, she ran away from her turbulent home life to pursue a music career in the City – and she has not stopped since, let alone to look back.

SwiftBoi began making a name for herself, building her credibility on the streets of Melbourne by freestyling in the Hip Hop circuit in 2015.

By 2017, she had produced her debut solo Hip Hop album HONEY TRAP.

Within days of it’s release, SwiftBoi’s single “The Bad Guy” had been shared by BODY BAG MEDIA, Triple J, KISS FM, 4ZZZ, WOW FM and Hardcore FM (and that’s just to name a few).

She is quite literally, “making a scene”. And we love her for it.

‘The Bad Guy’ is a gritty, uninvited peek into SwiftBoi‘s much anticipated, forthcoming album, ‘HECTOPLASM‘ which, whilst still in the works, is guaranteed to be an industry game-changer.

‘The Bad Guy’ is evidence of a no holds barred, unapologetic Hip Hop female force that not only refuses to be bound by gentrification, gender or genre, it spits in their faces.

“SWIFTBOI UNDENIABLY SPITS HARDER AND FASTER THAN MOST MALE RAPPERS IN THE SCENE.”

The female Hip Hop artist explicitly aims to challenge everybody’s view on the female contribution to Aussie Hip Hop, whether purposely or not.

For anyone who has ever felt different or disrespected by the masses… this track is for you.

If you are so privileged to have not been effected by misfortune in life, then all we can say is that the chorus is catchy as all hell!

SwiftBoi’s lyrical vendetta against society, the privileged, the entitled and the naysayers reveals a persona that can be described as Tarantino Uma Thurman vs Scarface, a theme which is quite obviously explored visually in her newest video.

The unapologetic lyrics of ‘The Bad Guy’ deal with the confronting issues of self-defense, bullying, and bisexuality – with a focus on being labelled “The Bad Guy” for winning against all odds, something of which SwiftBoi knows about all too well. Also giving way to the track’s overall IDGAF, cheeky attitude.

We can’t get enough of SwiftBoi, who is bulldozing the way for Aussie female hip hop artists with her tongue in cheek, lyrically witty and non-filtered style.

You can check out her new video here. It’s NSFW but then consider yourself lucky if you have a job!

Damaged will be announcing SwiftBoi shows soon so keep an eye on our socials people! She is a force to be reckoned with…

Stream now from Spotify, iTunes & more – https://DittoMusic.lnk.to/SwiftBoiTheBadGuy

SIGRID HAS LAUNCHED HER DEBUT ALBUM ‘SUCKER PUNCH’

by the partae December 10, 2018
written by the partae

Sigrid announces her highly anticipated debut album Sucker Punch, set for release on 1 March 2019. The Norwegian pop star’s experience over the last year has been the backdrop for her debut record. From writing at the piano of the stunning Ocean Sound Recordings in her hometown of Alesund, to winning the BBC Sound of 2018, Sigrid’s epic songs are tales of the unexpected; fearless musical collages and shout-outs to human resilience.

“I figured out early on that it’s gonna be difficult for me to try and be anything other than who I am. I always said if I’m gonna do this it’s easiest to be myself and look like myself, where I can recognise myself,”says Sigrid.

Sigrid’s defiant pop was catapulted into the public consciousness last year with the zeitgeist defining ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’, the certified-Gold ‘Strangers’, A-List record ‘High Five’, critically lauded RAW EP and new single ‘Sucker Punch’. The pop prodigy has also been chosen to perform at the Royal Variety Show, out on 11 December, and Top of the Pops Christmas special, as well as supporting George Ezra in March on his mammoth arena tour, and Maroon 5 in June.

PRE-ORDER SIGRID’S DEBUT ALBUM HERE

We have all witnessed an incredible new talent. Sigrid has won BBC Sound of 2018, debuted at Glastonbury, headlined Shepherd’s Bush Empire, lit up festivals across Reading, Roskilde, Coachella and Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend, sang at the Nobel Peace Prize concert, bewitched TV audiences from opening Later…with Jools Holland, The Late Late Show with James Corden and wowing Dame Helen Mirren on the Graham Norton Show. With streaming numbers reaching 400M globally, the 22-year-old Norwegian sensation is undoubtedly set to continue her ascent with non-conformist and progressive attitudes to the femininity in the pop landscape with ‘Sucker Punch’.

Ever in search of an even-better environment to make music in, Joris Voorn has been hard at work this year constructing a new studio space near his home in Amsterdam. Having only very recently been completed, Joris immediately went to add the finishing touches on his next single in his new natural habitat. Genova is the result, and it’s been well worth the wait.

A nagging techy beat with a funky undertone drives this infectious track, with monotone synth rhythms subtly rising from the depths to create a tense pressure. Moments of teasing intensity increase the drama, before a beautiful arpeggiated melody unfolds and with it brings a sorrowful chord progression. The bass follows in tandem as we head towards a sparse breakdown which strips things down to the bare minimum. A lengthy snare build recalls classic trance as the synths pulse and swell, with a hooky vocal snippet announcing the drop. After some more of that juicy groove, an extended ambient outro provides an atmospheric, heavenly ending.

Joris Voorn: “This release was created on a flight to the city of Genova. The name was just a working title, but it stuck with me over time, and made me remember playing the track for the first time on my gig that night in this beautiful city, for a few thousand people.

I’ve been working on it a lot since the first mix, and even though the energy level in the final production has gone up a bit, the soul has been left intact and now shines through even better. Inspiration for the track came from the early days of house music, where a solid groove and a strong synth stab can sometimes be all you need in electronic dance music.”

Genova has been heavily road-tested by Joris, featuring in all his sets over the summer and it has received huge reactions whenever played. It seems like his new studio has added a touch of magic to it, and we can all look forward to much more material coming out of it very soon indeed.
Joris Voorn ‘Genova’ will be released on December 7 via Green.

Sam Feldt’s ‘Heaven’ (Don’t Have A Name) (feat. Jeremy Renner) gets two brand-new remixes done by Dastic and SLVR

AMSTERDAM – December 7th, 2018 | Sam Feldt’s latest spectacular singleHeaven (Don’t Have A Name) has been inescapable of late. Featuring Oscar-nominated actor and singer Jeremy Renner on vocals, it’s a beautiful track that now gets two excellent new remixes from Dastic and SLVR.
Listen Here
Young Dutch producer Dastic has been a mainstay for Spinnin’ Recordssince being selected for their Spinnin’ NEXT ‘incubator’ platform, with his singles You & I and Let Me Love You among his huge successes for the powerhouse label. His bright and breezy house interpretation combines powerful beats with warm bass, bold chords and sweet melody that really compliments the glorious vocal. With subtle electro house undertones giving it some extra energy, it’s a glorious rework.

Milan’s SLVR pioneered his own ‘Booshi’ sound which mixes underground styles like bass house and UK garage with a crisp production aesthetic that works brilliantly in big rooms. His mix starts with tense, brooding, dark tones before dropping us into a twisted groove full of pitched down vocal cuts, low-slung bass and gnarly textures. It makes for a perfect contrast to Dastic’s version, providing dark to his light.

Official videos for both mixes are on the way, with live footage of Sam Feldt combined with footage of the remixer in question.
In addition to the remixes of Heaven (Don’t Have A Name), Sam Feldt adds even more fun to this holiday season by releasing his very own advent calendar. During the whole month of December fans get the chance to win incredible prizes and gifts such as goodie bags, production tips, free tracks, previews, other exclusive content and even a ticket to one of Sam’s shows including flight tickets and hotel. To take part in all these festivities, head over to Sam’s official fan portal at www.heartfeldt.me, sign up (if you haven’t already) and make sure you unlock your new gift every day.

Sam Feldt ‘Heaven (Don’t Have A Name) (feat. Jeremy Renner) (The Remixes)’ is released on Spinnin’ Records on December 7.

SET MO UNLEASH TITLE TRACK FROM DEBUT ALBUM “SURRENDER” OUT EARLY 2019

by the partae December 8, 2018
written by the partae

Set Mo continue to prove why they’re one of Australia’s hardest working acts with their new single “Surrender”. Accompanying the release, the duo are proud to announce their debut album of the same name, due to arrive early 2019.

“Surrender” is the first track to be taken from the mammoth upcoming LP, offering a spine-tingling marriage of ethereal soundscapes. Featuring a spoken word sample from pioneering English musician Brian Eno (given the nod of approval from Brian himself). The track invokes powerful ideas behind surrendering to one’s art. A climactic pulse of their signature house sound sends a shock to the heart, making “Surrender” yet another testament to Set Mo’s hypnotic sonic design.

“Funnily enough this is one of the few tracks that we actually wrote in our Sydney studio. The spoken word on the track comes from the one and only Brian Eno. We’ve been huge fans of Brian Eno and the countless records he’s produced. He also has a very nice way of looking at the world and how music works. We felt this snippet of him talking about surrendering to art fit perfectly with the track and encapsulates our approach to making music and what we’ve done this year in particular with putting out a new track every month. We always knew this would be the perfect way to open our debut album as it sets the tone wonderfully.” Set Mo

The release ties the bow on the biggest year yet for the house music maestros. With an abundance of new music, the pair have worked tirelessly in studios across London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Australia, teaming up with the likes of Touch Sensitive, AJ Wright (Cloud Control), Asta and Julian Hamilton (The Presets); All the while maintain an endless touring schedule. Set Mo’s track-a-month series across 2018 has presented a collection of certifiable hits. With support from Triple J, Magnetic Mag and additions to Apple Music’s A List, releases accrued 11 features worldwide in Spotify New Music Friday Playlists.

The duo are now excited to announce the release of their mammoth 16-track album due for release in early 2019. Featuring 11 favourites drip fed to dance floors throughout the year, whilst also treating fans to five brand new tunes, promising further body-moving bliss.

Set Mo’s debut album ‘Surrender’ drops early 2019 via Set Mo Records.

“Dreamy, whimsical vocals…lush, dainty synth tones and sparse percussion” – The Line Of Best Fit

“Glowing yet murky…ethereal disco influenced sound” – The 405

 “A remarkable post-disco jewel” – Clash

Alt-pop newcomer Vanity Fairy releases debut EP Lust For Dust, detailing her fresh approach to the genre with a series of glittering vocal performances and infectious synth overtones.

Spawning lead singles He Can Be Your Lady, Loverman and Milky Woe, the rising talent has already attracted widespread approval throughout the online community with NME,The Line Of Best Fit, Clash and The 405 showing their support as well as BBC Radio 1 airplay (Huw Stephens) and a flurry of seriously impressive live show appearances.

Co-produced alongside collaborators Sammy Yamaha and Simon Byrt (Pixx, Babeheaven), Vanity Fairy’s post-disco joy is the new project from Daisy Capri – a wonky, weird and wonderful reimagining of late 70s disco dance-floor fillers with influences ranging from The Bee Gees and Prince to Ariel Pink and Michael Jackson.

Discussing her debut EP release, the songwriter explained: “Lust For Dust is a collection of love songs about people who have never been loved, set in places that have never been peopled, from a time before my time”.

Vanity Fairy’s Lust For Dust EP is out now and available via all digital platforms.

It’s quite easy to get caught up with Rosenstock’s history and body of work, he spent ten years fronting a far more ska-centric outfit called Bomb the Music Industry! A band that earned its reputation as a hardcore DIY operation, releasing all its records for free and breaking up only when the day-job hustle got too bleak. But truth be told, Rosenstock has never been more powerful than with his current line-up & latest full-length album “POST”, which was surprisingly dropped just hours after a drunken New Year’s Eve show in Philadelphia, on January 1st this year.

“Dumbfounded, downtrodden and dejected, crestfallen, grief-stricken and exhausted, trapped in my room while the house was burnin’ to the motherfuckin’ ground”

From the opening line from the track “USA” – which evolves from guitar chugger to synth interlude to gang-vocal coda in the space of seven and a half minutes. Looking at the “clerk at the midwestern service station” or the “man in a crossover with his family”, Rosenstock demands to find out who exactly betrayed America.“I won’t hate you, I just need to know, please be honest Tell me was it you?” he begs, frustrated and confused with not only strangers & the people in charge of the good old US of A, but people he might of considered friends.

While providing one of the more upbeat tempos for the album, “MELBA” looks at how the abuse of power is a careless exercise for those who hold it, and the effects it has on those sitting at the bottom of a hierarchy. Rosenstock yells throughout the song “Let’s go back to Melbourne, we can start over, because mistakes get forgotten, dreams can be remembered”, using our city of Melbourne as the escape route, a place he has spent a lot of time and come to love.

In true Jeff Rosenstock fashion, the rest of the lyrics on “POST” revolve around anxiety, insecurity, anger, ennui and other bummers of day to day life and the album just seamlessly flows from start to finish, ending with the track “Let Them Win’, which snaps back into where “USA” left off, with an “us versus them” mentality, culminating in an ambient synth arrangement.

Joining Rosenstock as national supports will be two of Melbourne’s favourite acts. “Lincoln Le Fevre”, who will be bringing his backing band “The Insiders” along for the ride, and “Hanny J” – who when not touring the world playing bass with her band “Clowns”, is playing shows under her own alias.
