written by the partae

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there? I live in South Yarra Melbourne surrounded by yummy mummy’s in range drovers. Inspiring stuff. The music scene in strong in though. I’ve been so lucky to be introduced to some incredibly talented producers and musicians that have helped take my music to a place I would never have dreamed of when I was younger. People have been so supportive with my music down here. I’m currently working on a new track with a friend Alex O’Gorman whose a dream to work with. I’m super excited to show put it out. Alex produces and plays bass with Angie McMahon. He’s also just a true gentleman, the kind of people I’ve met in Melbourne. Truly kind people. Also, I live with two musicians, my girlfriend and brother.

How did you first start playing music? My Dad bought Mum an upright piano for her 40th birthday. She never played it. So I always used to pull up the lid and try knock out some early Coldplay tracks. I just taught myself by ear how to play that now cringe song ‘Clocks’. I started playing music by copying the bands I listened to when I was about 8 or 9. Whatever my family was listening to. My brother was heavily into bands like Interpol, Kings of Leon, The Strokes. So that’s what I was trying to play. That was my first time on a piano. My brother played drums. He was 16, I was 9, and I used to sit against his bedroom door tapping out the drums he was playing. Then when ever he’d let me, or if he was out, I’d go into his room and play the drums. So I was playing drums and trying to learn piano really early.

Who or what influences your sound and songwriting? My Brother and girlfriend definitely have a huge influence on my sound. My girlfriend is also a beautiful musician and has really great taste in music so a lot of stuff passes through her, which I love because she’s such a great songwriter. Also my brother, because, well he’s my big brother. You look up to your older bother and he’s always had such great taste in music which led me to some stuff I wouldn’t have heard at a young age if it wasn’t for him. As for what influences my music, I think that ageing has helped. Having new perspectives on life helps with the lyrical parts and the sound just slowly progresses I think. I hope. I write about the relationships around me. One’s involving me and always ones I see.

How do you usually go about writing music? I almost every time start with a drum beat. I might hear a melody in my head first but I always start with the beat then layer everything over the top. I use Linn Drum samples to program the beats into my pedal then layer synthesisers, then take it into the studio and put live instruments over the top. It usually happens really fast. I’m a master of starting songs and not finishing them, but when the right song comes out I’ll finish it because I know it’s ‘the one’ to finish.

Tell us about how your brother has played a part in your sound and musical taste: Your debut single ‘How Many Times’ is out now, where and when did you record? He’s just that classic older brother who influences the little bother. He tried to push me out of music a little bit because he knew how hard it was/is going to be. He’s been in it for nearly 15 years now so it takes it’s toll I guess. But he’s always taught me to be true to myself and reflect that in my music. He always coaches the best stuff out of me. It comes into the studio and plays drums on my tracks and usually ends up co-producing on the work. He’s got incredible ears and knowledge I completely trust his word. Musically.

How did this track come about? A close friend hurt me, I wrote a song about it. I don’t want to delve into it to much. I’ve made plenty of horrible mistakes myself and we’re good friends now. It’s a revenge track. It definitely helped.

You’ve just released a music video for ‘How Many Times’ please tell us how this video came to be: I really wanted to focus on the colours and camera movement in the video. Editing was always going to play a huge role. We just wanted to create something that enhanced the music. Not focus

on story to much, just try and match the image and audio for an easy watch. I hope that’s what we did. It’s no Childish Gambino, ‘This Is America’, it’s more ‘This a halfway house in Kew’. The director Jack Ralph and I just wanted to have fun with it. Not take it to seriously. The shoot ran from 2 pm till 1 am. We shot it it in my friends house which is quite literally the dankest house through winter, and not in a good dank way. A bad dank way.

What do you like to do away from music? Walk dogs, hang out in drive ways. Lawn bowls in the summer. Kick the footy. Shoot hoops. Golf a lot. Snowboard in the winter.

Who are you listening to at the moment? I’m listening to heaps of Randy Newman, Nick Drake and Brian Jones Town Massacre at the moment. Oh and Twin Peaks. I saw them at the Northcote Social Club a few weeks ago and the general feeling between friends was that it was the best show we think we’d ever seen. I know, big call! But it really was. They were just absolutely shredding and having so much fun. I think everyone in the room could feel it.

What do you have planned for the remainder of 2018 going into 2019? I’m currently finishing off my next single which I’m so so excited to release. It’s very different from ‘How Many Times’ energy wise, slower tempo, more instrumental but it’s still super poppy. This one’s got some real creamy bass, heaps of percussion and hopefully will make you want to dim the lights and swing your partner round on the porch. I actually wrote it the day after I saw Michael Kiwanuka at The Corner Hotel. That was also one of the best shows i’ve ever seen, close second behind Twin Peaks. I’m planning on releasing that with a run of shows early Feb next year.

Favourite food and place to hangout? Chicken Pot Pie, (Mum’s specialty). There are some really great parks and trails around the Yarra River just out of the city. I love going there with my girlfriend and all our friends and a couple of dogs they have. That’s quite simply my perfect afternoon. You forget you’re in the city for a moment which is always nice.

SXM Festival Returns to the Caribbean Island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten Announces Phase One Lineup for March 13-17 Event

by the partae December 7, 2018
written by the partae
Lineup Features Alex Niggemann, Apollonia, Archie Hamilton, Atish, Audiofly, Axel Boman, Be Svendsen, Chaim, Cristi Cons, Dewalta, Dj W!ld, Dubfire, Eduardo Castillo, Enzo Siraguza, Francesca Lombardo, Fumiya Tanaka, Goldcap, Guy Gerber, Jennifer Cardini, Kora, Maher Daniel, Marco Carola, Matthew Dekay, Molly, Oceanvs Orientalis, Sabo, Seb Zito, Traumer, Unders, Viken Arman, Zip
Today SXM Festival, underground electronic music’s premiere destination getaway, has announced the phase  lineup for its March 13-17 return to the Caribbean island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten. Set within the iconic beaches, nightclubs and spectacular villas of the island, SXM Festival will once again offer the global party elite a week of world-class house and techno programming in an unmatched setting.
It is with a firm dedication to booking both the scene’s foremost superstars and emerging talent alike that SXM Festival has crafted its legacy. Acting as a true culmination of forward-thinking electronic music innovators from around the world, the event will continue to rival some of the most celebrated party’s on earth with its March homecoming.
The 2019 event will welcome some of the world’s most in-demand headliners like flagbearer of Neapolitan techno Marco Carola, Parisian trio Apollonia, Rumors boss Guy Gerber, electronic visionary Dubfire, and groove-driven house icon Axel Boman.
The leading curation continues with Fuse London head Enzo Siragusa, modern king of UK house Archie Hamilton, Israeli techno maestro Chaim, the darker shades of Audiofly and Francesca Lombardo, plus many more scene defining acts.
The event’s return comes at a pivotal moment for the island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten which was left in need following a series of 2017 hurricanes. SXM Festival organizers were forced to make a difficult decision in postponing the Third Edition in 2018, while concentrating their efforts to create the Two Bunch Palms Foundation with the immediate mission to raise funds to help those affected by Hurricane IRMA and as a future vessel to give back to causes important to the development and health of the community. As a result of the unmatched spirit and aid of the global electronic music community and the resilience emitted of local people in an effort to rebuild the entire Island, Saint Martin/Sint Maarten will return stronger than ever – primed to once again step to the world stage to host this magical festival.
As SXM Festival Founder Julian Prince says, ‘It is very hard to put in words how excited we are to be back to work on producing SXM Festival 2019. This has been an incredibly emotional time for the local community and the partners that make this event happen. But through these adversities I believe the island and our team have emerged stronger than ever with an unbreakable bond that is destined to produce something incredibly special. We have the intention and ability to design the ultimate party – SXM Style. Locals are ecstatic to host everyone and in 2019 the energy on the island will be as magnetic as it has ever been! It is with such local spirit and the support of our amazing global community that we return with more momentum and vigor than ever before. Ironically, we always say that we couldn’t imagine what would come out if we had an extra 4 months to organize the festival. Like every precious moment in life, SXM Festival is not to be taken for granted as it was almost taken away from us right before our eyes.  It is with this thought that we have taken more steps to ensure that our event is giving direct aid and support to the people of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten without whom the event would not be possible.
Now Saint Martin/Sint Maarten makes its return better than ever with a fully renovated island and brand new hotels, villas, clubs, restaurants, and Casinos. SXM Festival attendees may rejoice as all corners of the global scene chart their course to converge once again in the other-wordly, natural setting and inimitable vibe of one of the moment’s most talked about parties.

DEERHUNTER Release new single ‘Element’ Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? out Friday 18th January 2019

by the partae December 7, 2018
written by the partae

Today, Deerhunter release ‘Element’, the second single to be taken from their forthcoming studio album, Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? out Friday 18th January via 4AD / Remote Control Records.

Described by Atlanta-based frontman Bradford Cox as “an elegy for ecology (a landscape done in toxic watercolors)”, ‘Element’ follows in the footsteps of album opener ‘Death in Midsummer’.

Deerhunter’s eighth LP Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? forgets the questions and makes up unrelated answers. It gets up, walks around, it records itself in several strategic geographic points across North America. It comes home, restructures itself and goes back to bed to avoid the bad news.

What they spend their time doing instead is reinventing their approach to microphones, the drum kit, the harpsichord, the electromechanical and synthetic sounds of keyboards. Whatever guitars are left are pure chrome, plugged straight into the mixing desk with no amplifier or vintage warmth. The result is as thrilling, haunting, and unpredictable as anything in their roughly 15-year career.

Deerhunter have made a science fiction album about the present. Is it needed right now? Is it relevant? Perhaps only to a small audience. DADA was a reaction to the horrors of war. Punk was a reaction to the slow and vacant 70’s. Hip Hop was a liberated musical culture that challenged the notions presented wholesale about the African-American experience. What is popular music today a reaction to?

STEVE GUNN Shares new single + acoustic video ‘Stonehurst Cowboy’ New album out January 18

by the partae December 7, 2018
written by the partae
Credit: Clay Benskin

Praise for Steve Gunn

“Majestic American singer-songwriter” – MOJO

“His guitar playing and songwriting have that eddying quality that imbues stillness witha sense of forward motion” – The Wire

“As a self-taught guitarist, composer and, latterly, a singer, his luscious deconstruction of Americana tinged blues, country and psychedelia switches between the accessible and the experimental” – Crack

“A homespun mystic vision somewhere between the Van Morrison of Astral Weeks, the Nick Drake of Bryter Layter and the Donavan of ‘Season of the Witch” – Rolling Stone

“Shimmering, fingerpicked electric guitar, deadpan-cool vocals” – Washington Post

“Lush and thoughtful… expansive guitar wizardry” – Stereogum

Following the release of acclaimed single ‘New Moon’, Steve Gunn has shared a second song off of The Unseen In Between (out January 18 on Matador Records), titled ‘Stonehurst Cowboy’. The song is the emotional centerpiece of the album, a duet between Gunn’s raw acoustic guitar and spare basslines by Bob Dylan’s musical director Tony Garnier, who is featured throughout the album.  The lyrics distill the lessons Gunn learned from his father and is a solemn but tender remembrance, a tribute to his father’s reputation as a tough, wise, and witty guy from far west Philadelphia.

Listen and watch the accompanying acoustic video below, shot in London and directed by Craig McNeil.

“Stonehurst Cowboy is a tribute to my late father, who passed away in 2016.  Stonehurst is an area in Southwest Philadelphia where both my parents grew up,” says Gunn, adding, “Heavily affected by the Vietnam War, he became an adult at hyperspeed after high school when he was drafted — though he didn’t end up actually fighting in Vietnam.  He was too young to know what the hell was going on when the war broke, and it wasn’t until he, his brothers, and friends came back to make any sense of it.”

For over a decade, Steve Gunn has been one of American music’s most pivotal figures — conjuring immersive and psychedelic sonic landscapes both live and on record, releasing revered solo albums ranking high on in-the-know end of year lists, alongside exploratory collaborations with artists as diverse as Mike Cooper, Kurt Vile, and Michael Chapman (whose most recent studio album he produced). Gunn is known for telling other people’s stories, but on his breakthrough fourth album, The Unseen In Between, he explores his own emotional landscapes with his most complex, fully realized songs to date. The lyrics evoke voyages, tempests (actual and emotional), and a rich cast of characters met along the way — the work of an artist finding a place of calm in the midst of a storm. Produced by frequent collaborator James Elkington and engineered by Daniel Schlett, the immaculately recorded Unseenforces a reassessment of Gunn’s standing in the pantheon of the era’s great songwriters.

Indie-folk singer songwriter Kay Proudlove reveals unintentional Christmas song ‘Gift Card’ and announces summer performances

by the partae December 7, 2018
written by the partae

Wollongong born artist Kay Proudlove didn’t intend to write a Christmas song this year, but it’s happened and it’s not what you’d expect. Forget Bublé, bubbles and Christmas baubles, Kay is diving deep into the not-so-shiny parts of this tinsel laden season in her new track ‘Gift Card’ out today. Riddled, as always with clever wit, honesty and heart-on-her-sleeve raw emotion, the single actually doesn’t stray to far from what we’ve come to expect from the rising talent, and is likely to become another crowd favourite when she takes on a string of upcoming live shows this silly season.

With a remarkably agile, soul-bearing voice and a wry sense of humour, Kay Proudlovehas always written songs driven by narrative and powered by her love for the art of observation. On ‘Gift Card’, Kay covers everything from the financial and social stresses of Santa’s impeding visit, to the joy of witnessing pure human connection and of course, those thoughtful and not-so-thoughtful gifts – “surprise, it’s a gift card”. Mixed and mastered by Ben Davies at Silver Sound Recording Studio in Wollongong, ‘Gift Card’ is a classic folk sing-a-long, stripped back to its most pure to let Kay’s vocals and message shine through.

STREAM / EMBED ‘GIFT CARD’ VIA SPOTIFY

“The inspiration for ‘Gift Card’ came on a day when three separate people told me they couldn’t believe it was nearly Christmas. This was in October. It struck me that it’s something people say every year, which got me thinking about what people go through around Christmas – good and bad. I feel like there’s always this sense of time slipping away and that no one is ever prepared. But it can still be kind of exciting, which is where the lyrics ‘magical and desperate’ come from. There are so many mixed feelings about the festive season and I tried to capture some of those in this song. It’s very much a biographical track and I have definitely attended church straight after Christmas Eve drinks before.” – Kay Proudlove

Kay Proudlove’s live performance style is much like being invited into her lounge room; her songs are truly stories set to melody, by turns relatable, humorous and heartbreaking. The co-ordination that never showed up for Kay on any sort of sporting field has made itself known in a marriage of acoustic guitar and voice, with lyrics that can be equally poignant and hilarious in a single instance. Creating an intimacy between audience and performer through vulnerability, Kay’s live show is likely to leave you wondering whether all of the songs were about you.

After touring her live album I Should Have Done This Ages Ago and playing a bucket list of Festivals such as the Woodford Folk Festival, By The Banks Music Festival,Jamberoo Music Festival, as well as supporting artists such as Shaun Kirk, Tom Lee-Richards, Caiti Baker, Stevie Jean, The Northern Folk and more, Kay is excited to be bringing in the festive season with a bunch of live performances this summer.

WIKI shares new song ‘Elixir’ feat. Obongjayar & JJ (Jesse James Solomon)

by the partae December 7, 2018
written by the partae

Today, New York City’s Wiki has shared a new track ‘Elixir’ out now via XL Recordings / Remote Control Records. ‘Elixir’ sees Wiki taking a new direction, encompassing sounds from across the globe with a track that features two of London’s most exciting voices, Obongjayar and JJ (Jesse James Solomon), giving fans a glimpse of what to expect from new music in 2019.

Wiki says “I’ve known Jesse for the longest. He’s one of my oldest friends out in London. We had this song together for a minute and reached out to Obongjayar to bring it to the next level.”

‘Elixir’ is produced by Felix Joseph, aka ProducedbyFelix, and follows Wiki’s recent one-off song ‘In The Park’ featuring Gloss Gang, which marks a new chapter for Wiki after touring the world in support of his critically-acclaimed New York opus No Mountains in Manhattan.

Wiki‘s long-standing connection to London dates back to his relationship with King Krule, with whom he has been collaborating with since 2012. His admiration for the city has been evident since then — featuring on the US remix of Skepta‘s hit ‘That’s Not Me,’ bridging the gap for the grime star to establish a foothold in America, in addition to his collaborations with UK artists from veterans like Suspect, to up-and-coming talents like JJ, both of whom have been featured on recent releases from Wiki.

GRACE TURNER finishes 2018 with ‘Easy I Fall’

by the partae December 7, 2018
written by the partae

Grace Turner plays a final hand for 2018 with gutsy end-of-year single ‘Easy I Fall’, a fierce progression from her previous heart-stopper ‘Dead or Alive’

Streaming over 500,000 times since release, ‘Dead or Alive’ landed the Newcastle based singer-songwriter in Spotify US’ Viral 50, peaking at #24. Receiving triple j airplay, rotation on triple j unearthed, Double J, FBi Radio and love from community radio across the country, ‘Dead or Alive’ was also included in Apple Music’s ‘Best of the Week.’

Now, Grace offers a fresh perspective in ‘Easy I Fall’. Written at the same time as ‘Dead or Alive’, ‘Easy I Fall’ was recorded slowly over a year between a back shed and a spare bedroom. This final iteration hits hard up front with its intentionally abrupt opening line ‘If you wanna fuck me then just tell me that you love me…”

Turner explains “This song is about being tirelessly perused. I used to play it first in my set to shock people into listening to me. I often joke in my live show that it’s about trying to break up with someone but sleeping with them instead. In a deeper sense it’s about power imbalances in relationships, not being listened to and putting someone’s wants and needs above your own.”

ORVILLE PECK – Signs to Sub Pop & shares new single & video “Big Sky” – Debut LP due next year – Announces London Residency

Sub Pop has signed the enigmatic country singer Orville Peck, who will release his debut for the label in 2019. Combining the lulling ambience of shoegaze with the iconic melodies and vocal prowess of classic American country music, enigmatic outlaw cowboy – Orville Peck, croons love and loss from the badlands of North America. The resulting sound is one completely his own – taking the listener down dusty rose-colored desert highways; through a world where worn out gamblers, road-dogs and lovesick hustlers drift in and out of his masked gaze. Orville’s music will be available worldwide from Sub Pop, with the exception of Canada through Royal Mountain Records. His first single for “Big Sky” is a campfire lullaby of Orville’s past lovers. He sings about his relationships – with an aloof biker, an abusive boxer and an overly protective jailor in the Florida Keys – and the inevitable demise of each one, as Orville leaves them for the wide open big sky. Watch his official video for the song, directed by Deni Cheng, which follows our anti-hero as he travels through his America, waiting for time to pass.

Orville Peck’s late winter and spring international tour schedule for 2019 currently spans January 4th-May 12th. Highlights include: Canadian shows on January 4th in Toronto and January 5th in Hamilton; A three-date London, UK residency February 28th-March 2nd, immediately followed by shows in Amsterdam on March 5th and Berlin on March 6th; And in May, he’ll be supporting Lord Huron on a string of midwest-southwestern US dates May 6th-May 12th. Additional live dates will be announced in the new year.

Bumble joins forces with The Media Nanny, ID&T and Astralwerks to launch “Making Moves In Music” An international campaign to combat gender inequality within the electronic dance space

by the partae December 6, 2018
written by the partae
To celebrate they’re offering a once in a lifetime experience for female DJs to have access to top music executives for mentorship and masterclasses in top European cities and  Los Angeles. Offering them the opportunity to work with renowned electronic music labelAstralwerks, and a guaranteed performance at one of ID&T’s biggest festivals this summer.

December 4, 2018 – Bumble, the women first social connection app with over 43 million users worldwide, announces it is joining forces with a suite of the most reputable platforms in the music industry to challenge and campaign for more females to enter the dance music industry. Their first move is to offer an upcoming female DJ the opportunity to perform at Mysteryland 2019 and to work with renowned electronic music label Astralwerks.

The music industry still continues to be heavily male-dominated, there is a 46% pay gap among leading global music businesses and according to research conducted by Pitchfork earlier this year, only 19% of major festival lineups this year were female. The campaign aims to increase this figure by raising awareness and providing an opportunity for women to enter the DJ space.

“Making the first move into this incredibly competitive industry is challenging, but certainly rewarding,” says José Woldring, CEO and Founder of The Media Nanny, one of dance music’s foremost Global PR agencies. “Making Moves in Music is about creating more accessibility for upcoming female artists and supporting them along the way with the knowledge, networks and experience of other amazing human beings in this industry”.

Bumble was founded upon empowering women to make the first move, in a bid to rewire traditional stereotypes and expected behaviour – and rebalance traditional expectations of gender roles. This campaign hopes to not only raise awareness of the gender imbalance within the industry – but actively and tangibly shift the dial. Whether you’re a producer, or a performer, a single artist or part of a collective – Bumble wants to hear your music.

Louise Troen, VP of International Marketing & Communications at Bumble said ‘As a brand, our mission is to end misogyny by empowering women to go after what they want. This message, coupled with campaigns that can propel actual change through opportunity, is crucial to shift the dial of gender inequality. We’re so thrilled to have ID&T and Astralwerks on board to really offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to women in the Netherlands. We know there is so much talent out there, and we’re committed to finding and championing it’

Made possible by Bumble’s partners – ID&T, known for organizing the world’s biggest electronic music festivals such as Mysteryland, Sensation, Tomorrowland and more, will offer the opportunity for the winner to play along an all-star lineup. whilst Astralwerks will provide the winner with A&R, creative, marketing & digital support from their globally recognized label.

ID&T’s Rosanne Janmaat: “Being one of the leading festival producers for more than 25 years, we applaud this initiative and are more than excited to play our part. We are happy to join forces with renowned partners Bumble, The Media Nanny and Astralwerks and are confident that true talent will be selected and given the opportunity to grow rather than trying to reach certain gender quotas.”

“Astralwerks is so excited to be partnering with Bumble, ID&T and The Media Nanny to help find and nurture the next era of female DJ’s. Everyone on our team is fully committed to supporting new talent and working with them to present their vision to the world.” says Toby Andrews, General Manager.

Bumble officially launched in the Netherlands this September and Making Music Moves will be their first official campaign activated within the Dutch market – renowned for being the homeland to electronic music and producing some of the worlds best DJs.

The campaign will initially be European focused with an ultimate vision of shifting the gender imbalance seen on our main stages and festivals today.

Applications for the initiative will open December 3rd and more information can be found by following Bumble Netherlands on Instagram @bumble_netherlands.

Danish Iris Gold unveils new track ‘Keep The Light On’

by the partae December 6, 2018
written by the partae

“Playful and infectious in equal measure, “Keep The LIght On” is a welcome change from the usual wintry gloom” – Complex Magazine

Danish-Jamaican songstress Iris Gold is pleased to announce details of a brand new single ´Keep The Light On´ due 30th November.

She says: “The Song is about meeting up with an ex for a chat and some kind of closure, but your ex is on some seductive, Barry White, barritone and incense. And Its just about wanting to keep the light and keep things above board in the midst of all the sauciness”.

The lyrics and idea for ´Keep The Light On´ was conceived awhile back but was kept on the shelves till now. When Iris heard a special beat by the Danish producer-group Pitchshifters, she immediately knew that the song had finally found its place. That production accompanied by her rap in the verses and her singing in the chorus, rounded off beautifully by just a touch of some chilled brass. ´Keep The Light On´ has a slower and more subdued sound, that fits the meditative theme. A theme that describes the period after two lovers have broken up. A time between the last love in the relationship and the complete liberation from each other as ex-lovers. But where you still hold strong feelings for each other and deep inside know its not the best of ideas to give in, let go and turn off the lights, even for just one night.

Iris Gold made her debut in 2015 with the song ´Goldmine´ that quickly got the attention from the music business, who were smitten by her style and unique musical talents, and offers to support established stars like Miguel, Taylor Swift and Robbie Williams came quickly. She has since established herself in Denmark and abroad as a new, true talent among her peers in the music business.

Iris Gold was born in London, but grew up in Denmark in Freetown Christiania surrounded by music and progressive culture. Iris had been singing and rapping since she from an early age was introduced to hip hop, reggae and psychedelic-pop/rock music, music that has left a great impact on the music she makes today: A riveting mix of pop, R&B, hip hop and soul, alongside the poetry and storytelling in her songwriting.

2018 has been an amazing year for Iris Gold who has toured around Europe, having done more than 80 shows. The rest of this year and into 2019 offer even more great things for Iris Gold. She is playing a unique and exclusive concert at the historic Betty Nansen Theatre in Copenhagen on December 1st called Iris Gold Iscenesat. The concert is arranged by Betty Nansen Theatre and Roskilde Festival, who works to merge music and art. Furthermore, she is also playing both the annual Eurosonic Festival in The Netherlands this January and FOCUS Festival in Wales this May.

……also, there’s a debut album on the way.

“Copenhagen-raised songstress Iris Gold is winning us over with her eclectic blend of old school hip hop, sunshine pop and trippy beats.” – Wonderland

“Offers a wonderfully carefree contrast to the glut of grim-lipped overthinkers” – Line of Best Fit

David August announce Pitch Music & Arts festival Melbourne sideshow

by the partae December 6, 2018
written by the partae

Born in Hamburg in 1990, August composes and performs multifaceted electronic music with hopeful tones and a human aesthetic. “Creating music – the act of creating in general – should be free from rationalisation. In the best case, relying solely on subconsciousness communication,” says the classically trained multi-instrumentalist. Speaking with David, one immediately realises the value that he places upon his well-earned artistic independence and steadfast sincerity.

This hard-fought pursuit can be traced clearly through the producer’s recorded works; from a string of early dance singles and remixes (2010-2014), followed by his celebrated debut album, Times (2013), to a handful of genre-defying outings on Ninja Tune sub-label, Counter Records (2016), the Tonmeister graduate (2017) continues to uncloak hidden inner paths yet to be discovered.

Now after the release of his incredible third album ‘D’Angelo’, we welcome David August to perform live in the intimate confines of Max Watts.

David August (Live)
