The Cat Empire Announce Album Pre-order Campaign & Release ‘Barricades’

by the partae December 4, 2018
written by the partae

Listen to Barricades HERE

Barricades is the next exciting instalment in the song a month reveal from The Cat Empire’s forthcoming album Stolen Diamonds, which is due for release on Feb 15 2019. In tandem with the delivery of Barricades, The Cat Empire have also kicked off a pre-order campaign for the new album HERE

The wonderfully fractured skank of Barricades starts off driven by an ominous piano riff hammered out via The Cat Empire’s keyboard master Ollie McGill that opens up into an ethereal vocal delivered by Harry Angus.  The track then transforms into an urgent reggae funk with the rhythm section taking over before again breaking and heading back again into the ether. The band’s co-lead vocalist Felix Riebl shares, “Barricades is by far one of the most intricate and experimental songs on the album. On one hand it’s very, very dubby and hard hitting, then on the other it’s got this Miles Davis like quality to it with the horns on it. This is another fantastic track written by Harry that’s one of the heaviest on the album.”

The cover photo for Barricades showcases the work of Australian photographer Amy Mercer. The Sydney-based aerial and underwater photographer specialises in capturing the beauty of nature. The shot Summer Glisten was taken at Shelly Beach Rock Pool in January 2018 on a warm summer’s afternoon in Sydney’s south. Amy explains, “The beach lifestyle is a key element in Australian culture and is not only a place to take a dip, but a means of a rite of passage for any young Australian. It is a place to gather thoughts in times of crisis, a place to celebrate life and achievements; a place to socialise, exercise and relax; a place to overcome challenges and compete, a place to find solitude and love. It is no wonder that ocean living is an integral part of the country’s society.”

Open globally from now until January the 31st, 2019 the Stolen Diamonds pre-sale offer features a signed limited edition slip case for the CD version and a signed, die cut, limited edition sleeve for the vinyl version, complete with a limited run tote bag – perfect for completest collector fans. Fans can also pre-order the album as a Christmas gift for loved ones which includes delivery on December 25th of a note from the band, the first 6 singles already released and access to the January single a week in advance.

The Cat Empire have just wrapped up a mammoth European tour themselves which saw multiple sold out dates in various cities across the continent to rave reviews and including a live performance on Berlin TV which can be viewed HERE, and went out to 160million viewers. The band have returned for some special shows at home throughout December, ending the year at Woodford Festival and NZ Rhythm and Alps, and then into the New Year with 3 sold out shows at Melbourne Zoo.

With streams and YouTube views of the tracks and accompanying 360 video series released so far climbing into the millions, Stolen Diamonds is already shaping up to be one of the biggest chapters in the band’s career yet.

Check out the 360 series of clips HERE

The Cat Empire – Stolen Diamonds is out on Two Shoes Records, Feb 15th, 2019

Youthfire X Diemne Interview Each Other

by the partae December 4, 2018
written by the partae

Youthfire to Diemne: Q1 – What inspired you to start rapping? Was there a specific artist that inspired you?

I remember the first time I ever thought I could start rapping was mainly due to the fact that I had done really well in English in high school, I figured ‘I can do that, string words and rhyme together, easy’. (laughs)

I guess hiphop music was basically always a part of my life from a pretty early age, which probably started by listening to Eminem and 50 Cent on family road trips in between sessions on the gameboy colour. But when I first started, a friend of mine was rapping and pushed me to get involved and we spent a lot of time hanging out and rapping together, so I guess my first influence to actually start was probably Brisbane artist, Midas Gold. Musically or stylistically I was listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar and Tyler the Creator at the time, they were probably my biggest artistic influences, to begin with and now that I think about it, they probably still are.

Shoutout Franky Oceannn

Diemne to Youthfire: Q1 – Youve come so far on your musical journey, how do you think your life experiences have helped you as an artist?

I had an unusual introduction to making music. When I left high school I started making YouTube cover videos and released them once a week. I did this religiously for years which helped me to evolve and to grow.

Growing up being gay had a big impact on how I viewed myself and the world. I struggled with issues around self acceptance for quite some time. And went I came out I still battled with feeling like an outsider.

These experiences most definitely informed my musical journey with music and in many ways they still do.

Youthfire to Diemne – Q2  Where do you see yourself going with your music? What do you want to achieve?

Tough question!

I think my goals often shift back and forth. I’d like to make an impact on people’s lives in some way and I think that my music is one way to achieve that.

I’ve always said to myself that achieving local or national support would mean a successful career in the music industry… I think that touring the country and playing festivals around Australia would be the baseline for success with my music, it would definitely be something to look back on and say ‘yeah I did that, I made a go of it’. As long as you try your best right?

Outside of my own artistry, ever since I started making music, its been my number one priority and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. I grew up embracing hiphop culture and music has just become an extension of that. I think in the future I want to be involved with other emerging artists, helping them grow and achieve their vision.

Q2 Diemne yo Youthfire – if you could work with any three artists, alive or dead, who would it be any why?

It’ll be hard to only pick 3! But definitely on the top of my list is David Bowie, I’ve been inspired by Bowie from as long as I can remember. I love how he constantly redefined himself through his career and pushes boundaries. He also wasn’t afraid to try something that could fail. His fearlessness is so inspiring to me.

Next would be Prince. Except I think I’d be so nervous being in the same room as him. I think just overacting him in action would be enough of a learning experience for me.

Having the opportunity to work with Quincy Jones would be a dream, but again I’d probably feel more comfortable to observe him in action. I’m really inspired by producers and artists like Quincy who can bring out the best in the artists they work with.

Q3 Youthfire to Diemne – Was there something that surprised you, or that you didn’t expect would happen, when we wrote Emerging?

I think the songwriting process for emerging was the most interesting or surprising part of the process as It was the first time co-writing with another artist and exploring lyrics in new ways I hadn’t thought of before. During the process, we engaged with films and literature, identified key ideas or phrases and used those mediums to drive the vibe of the song, which ultimately led to a really cohesive sound, both lyrically and sonically.

I am also always astonished at the power of mixing. I think producers don’t get enough love in the music business and they make or break a record. Shoutout Youthfire for the production. You all make me sound drippy! 😉

Q3 Diemne to Youthfire – If you had one piece of advice too give to a young self what would it be?

I’d say, don’t be afraid to collaborate! Early on, I was very self-conscious to work on writing songs with other artists, songwriters, producers, etc. The story I’d tell myself was, I’m not good enough. In a way, I still feel this but I’ve learnt to value collaboration so much that it’s easier to override those thoughts now.

Q4 Youthfire to Diemne – what inspires you to keep pushing the boundaries making music? And do you see Melbourne as an inspiring place to do this being a rapper?

I think the most successful artists in history are those who continue to push boundaries and evolve as musicians.  For me, I want to try and make music that not only resonates with people now but in the future as well.

Hiphop as a genre is still really young and has undergone dramatic changes since its inception, led by artists pushing boundaries and exploring outside the box.  I think that’s what makes music so exciting for me, you never know where a project or song might take you as the genres start to blend and bleed into one another and eventually you end up with something completely unique.

And yes, Absolutely! Melbourne is a really inspiring place to create art.  Coming from Brisbane only just over a year ago, I think the biggest difference is the urban nature of the inner city and the culture, which for me, brought on a bunch of new, eclectic experiences.  I think the artists I resonate with most tend to tell their lived experiences in a very personal way and as such, the culture of Melbourne allows vulnerability to flourish. Its un-suppressive, open, diverse and those attributes are celebrated by the community.

I definitely think its the hub of music, hip hop and culture in Australia.

Q4 Diemne to Youthfire –
What do you want to say with your music? What does youthfire mean to you?

Hard question… for me, Youthfire has always been about love and acceptance. And, at the core, acknowledging the power that we each have within us. I aim to create music that’s very real and honest drawing from my own personal experience as a queer person. I also think it’s more important than ever for people within the LGBTIQA+ spectrum to create and to share their art. And if I have the opportunity to be apart of a community of creative, unique and free thinking people, then this is my goal for Youthfire. x

KYTES announce new track ‘Take It Easy’ Announce new visual for ‘Take It Easy’+ 5-track EP ‘Frisbee’ due January 2019

by the partae December 4, 2018
written by the partae

Bavarian indie-pop quartet Kytes are pleased to announce details of a brand new track ‘Take It Easy’ following on from their recent hit ‘Remedy’, both taken from the forthcoming EP ‘Frisbee’ due 2019.

‘Take It Easy’ is an infectious, radio friendly number with a simple message – to let off some steam, chill out and take things a little slower. For the band, spreading the positivity and feel good factor is something they want to transmit to their audience and this is also reflected in the music, where the band adopt a refreshing approach to writing and mixing up various influences to the sound.

The band say: “We think this is something we all need to do a little each day. We always try to break new ground. So for TAKE IT EASY we wanted to combine our indie touch with a new hip hop kind of feel. We got inspired by ‘Mask Off’ and it helped us create something totally new and original.  TAKE IT EASY breaks though genres and we’re really proud of it. ”

KYTES are an award-winning band based in Munich Germany. Since late 2015 the band have been on the scene and its members: Michael Spieler, Timothy Lush, Kerim Öke and Thomas Sedlacek, go back to the early days of school. The boys have racked up more than 200 shows to date, including festivals such as SXSW (USA), The Great Escape (UK), Sziget (HU), Frequency (AU), and Melt! (GER). Their debut album ‘Heads and Tales ‘ peaked at #14 on the German iTunes charts and songs were streamed more than 8 million times on Spotify.

Their new EP ‘Frisbee’ surprises from the very first second, the sound having evolved into something very distinct. The songs, written in Munich, Vienna and Amsterdam were all recorded and produced in Kytes’ studio in the Bavarian capital. Producer filous added his unique touch to the production, often employing the use of field recorders and an iPhone microphone, which enabled the band to write and record some songs within two days. The quality of the song-writing shines through the songs with the band’s imitable trademark sound and filous’ distinct production, surprising their listeners and giving each track its own special aura.

‘Frisbee’ is an independent release with no record label involved. DIY, yes doing it the indie way.

KYTES ON TOUR
December 5th – Cologne – Artheater
December 6th – Hamburg – Molotow (sold out)
December 7th – Berlin – Badehaus
December 8th – Leipzig – Naumanns

A Ministry of Sound legend, Judge Jules launched his career at the club and became a staple DJ for The Annual. He mixed three platinum selling compilations of The Annual in the 90s and three chart-topping The Ibiza Annual compilations for Ministry of Sound, alongside a number of other releases for the label.

Regarding his forthcoming appearance at the London premiere Judge Jules says,“The Ministry of Sound has always been one of the most iconic brands in dance music and its legendary London venue has played an important part throughout my career. To be asked by Ministry of Sound to curate and perform at The Annual Classical orchestral show in London’s Royal Festival Hall is a real honour.”

The Annual Classical finds the world’s most iconic dance brand celebrating and reimagining their legendary compilation series The Annual with a full orchestral UK tour. The Annual Classical will include some of the biggest dance tracks, which have featured on the early chart topping The Annual compilations.

Having been at the forefront of The Annual series, Judge Jules has been an imperative part of the composition of the orchestral reinterpretations of the classic dance tunes that will be heard on the tour.

Speaking about his role in the recreation of the music Judge Jules says,“The Annual series have always been snapshots of the scene. With such a rich history in music to choose from, ensuring we were able to represent all the important moments in dance music over nearly three decades was a big task. But we’ve gone and created something truly memorable. The experience of listening to a live orchestra is on another level anyway, and to be able to fuse that feeling with the music of a lifetime promises a very special night.”

Brazil’s most promising techno export Anna set for huge Australian tour!

by the partae December 4, 2018
written by the partae
Tour Dates
Saturday 29th December: Ivy, Sydney
Saturday 29th December: Lost Paradise, Sydney
Sunday 30th December: Beyond The Valley, Victoria
Tuesday 1st January: Habitat Garden Party, Perth
Saturday 5th January: Shed9 Day Party, Melbourne
Saturday 5th January: Bloom Geelong

From a young age, Brazilian artist Anna was destined for success. A career spawned from her frustration of hearing DJs playing the same music over and over, a then 14-year-old Ana Miranda began playing sets at her father’s nightclub. Honing in on her well-tuned ear and her uniquely acquired taste in techno, her production style followed in suit, and it didn’t take long to get recognition from some of the most renowned musical figures in the world.

Getting the tick of approval from artists such as Sven Väth, Marcel Dettmann, and Richie Hawtin, her releases sit under the infamous Kompakt Record Label and can be defined as some of the most carefully executed techno coming out of Spain. Fresh from her successful Kompakt Records release earlier this year ‘Hidden Beauties’, and her incredible remix of Jon Hopkins’ ‘Singularity‘, Anna’s most recent EP titled ‘Speicher 105’ is a solid continuation on her well rounded and rich analogue techno stylings, and an exciting taste of what’s in store for Anna in 2019.

Few could disagree: in 2018 ANNA has come of age.

‘Hidden Beauties’, her track on Kompakt’s revered Speicher series, had aseismicimpact. It was played everywhere from Panorama Bar to Awakenings and supported bythe likes of Sven Väth, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Richie Hawtin and Adam Beyer. Praised by Pitchfork and selected by Mixmag as one of the best tracks of the year, itwas no.1 on Beatport’s techno chart for 4 months.

What followed has been a slew of top-shelf releases on some of the world’smostrespected techno imprints, with critically acclaimed EPs on NovaMute and ClashLionand a remix for Scuba’s SCB project on Hotflush. No surprise Adam Beyer took notice, selecting ANNA’s ‘Portable Paradise’ for inclusion on his acclaimed Drumcode A-Sides.

It’s a fitting pay-off for the artist who has been DJing since she was 14 years old, cuttingher teeth spinning at her father’s nightclub in the outskirts of Sao Paolo. Herjourneysince then has been marked by passion, hard work and unrelenting dedication tohercraft. You can see this when she plays – a skilled and accomplished selector, herperformances are energetic and captivating affairs. Gigs at the legendary WarungandD-Edge in her home country are the stuff of legends, while globally she’s in ever-increasing demand playing everywhere from Movement Detroit, Awakenings,Tomorrowland Festival, DC10 Ibiza, Rex Club Paris and countless other hotspots. Foran insight into her talents, you only need to check her vinyl DJ set for Cercle fromFebruary this year, that’s already hit well over a million views.

Further highlights to come for ANNA this year include a follow up EP on Speicher titled‘Remembrance’, alongside and a stellar remix of Jon Hopkins ‘Singularity’ on Domino, both stand as arguably some of her strongest work to date. We say she’s come of age, but ANNA says she’s just getting started.

Cat Dealers

by the partae December 4, 2018
written by the partae

What are your names and your separate roles within Cat Dealers?

We are Pedro and Lugui. We work pretty much together in the project. Sometimes one of us has an idea, but we always talk about everything and come to a result together.

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?

We live in Rio de Janeiro, our hometown. The music scene has grown a lot and we love playing here, maybe because it’s our city haha but it’s great. The people really love music and there are so many other great artists that we work or are friends with.

You recently opened for Shakira for two of her Brazil shows, how did this come about and how was the experience?

It was awesome! When we first heard that we were opening for her we got super excited! Excitement soon turned to nerves because we didn’t know if the fans would know us or what they were expecting, since they were there to see Shakira. It turned out great though, the crowd was amazing and we had the best time.

When and how did you first start DJing?

We’ve always been into music since we were kids, then came a time when we became really fascinated by electronic music. We started following it religiously and learning as much as we could about it. We liked it so much that we started producing our own music and in 2016 Cat Dealers officially began.

You’ve climbed a massive 26 places in this years DJ Mag Top 100 and you’re now sitting at the 48th position, what does it take to get to this level in the DJ game?

A lot of sleepless nights hahaha! I think that what really makes the difference is loving what you do and being willing to work hard. We are also really thankful for our fans and the team that work alongside us, without them all we wouldn’t have been able to achieve what we have.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Right now I’m really into Rüfüs Du Sol’s new album. I really like them and I’ve been addicted to their latest releases.

You’ve just released a beautiful remix of Lauv’s ‘There’s No Way’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7eyg617PmQ how do you go about remixing music?

Remixing Lauv was awesome, he has such an amazing voice and great music. We love remixing in general because we get to put our own stamp on tracks, allowing us to include some of these awesome songs in our own sets!

What programs/equipment do you use?

We produce using Ableton Live, and our favorite synths are Sylenth1 and Nexus (that is not an actual synth, but it’s awesome!).

What do you like to do away from music?

While on tour, we really like to get to know the places we’re playing at so we try to sightsee as much as possible whilst touring a country and experience everything it has to offer. That’s not always possible though, sometimes we have to leave too early and don’t have enough free time, but we do appreciate when we are able to do that. When we’re at home, we love spending time with our family, pets and friends because we don’t get many chances to see them due to travelling so much. We also like to play videogames, watch series and movies, just like everyone else haha.

You recently released the music video for your single “Keep On Lovin” which features Brazil’s hottest trending actress Agatha Moreira  – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEdH1UY6YNE how did this music video come about?

The video was the result of incredible work by many people. We actually feature in the video and we were all so excited that it didn’t even feel like work, it was just so fun. Agatha loved the music and the idea of the video, so we were very happy she agreed to participate. In the end we were so proud of it, everything about the video made us smile.

What is your process for producing music?

We don’t have a normal schedule when producing music. Each one has a different process. Sometimes we start with the vocal, sometimes with the drop, sometimes we just like to have fun creating anything, so the process is just playing around hahaha.

You’ve just been on tour in Australia, how were the shows?

They were fantastic! It was our first time playing here and it’s amazing. The crowd is great, they make us feel really comfortable on stage and it’s been an awesome experience.

What are your impressions of Australia and the Australian music scene?

We’re in love with Australia. We always wanted to come here and it really is beautiful! Everything about it is awesome, the cities, the beaches, the people… We wish we could have stayed longer haha! The music scene is also pretty great! There’s so much going on and people are really interested in knowing and enjoying it. We surely will be back!

What do you have planned for the remainder of 2018 going into 2019?

We still got some great gigs coming up, we’ve just played in Ireland for the first time and now we’re headed back to Brazil. December is probably our busiest month, we’re travelling to so many great Brazilian cities. There’s still music to be released too, like our upcoming track My Way, by Spinnin’ Records. So we got a lot going on till the end of the year and we’re really looking forward to 2019.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

I would say that the food of BB Lanches (a food place in Rio de Janeiro) is the best! But we really LOVE Burrito California. It’s a burrito type that is really hard to find outside of Southern California. Favorite place to hang out… the beach for sure!

Sander Van Doorn remixes Frontliner’s hardstyle anthem I’m The Melodyman

by the partae December 4, 2018

BUY/STREAM I’M THE MELODYMAN HERE
Although he is known for his eclectic ventures, remixing a classic hardstyle track is not necessarily something you would expect from Sander Van Doorn. In this case it’s a match made in heaven as he reworks Frontliner’s melodic 2012 banger I’m The Melodyman in fine style.
Beautifully euphoric melodies lie at the heart of the hard-edged original, and it’s these elements that Sander has so successfully extracted, manipulated and boosted. Taut beats lay the foundations. Off-beat keys pulse as scintillating bassline arpeggio bubbles away. The sweet vocodered vocals rise from the depths with a pretty topline and bright chords, ushering us towards a truly soaring breakdown that’s packed with gently distorted, spine-tingling riffs and bundles of trance energy. The drop brings everything together in rousing fashion, with the track soaring higher still when a second layer of the main melody joins in an octave higher. Big drum fills and snare rolls bring in moments of drama and complete this phenomenal track.

I’m The Melodyman is a huge track in the hardstyle scene, and this remix actually originally came about when Frontliner created an as-yet-unreleased remix of Sander’s Purple Haze project track Bergen. Sander was inspired to remix one of Frontliner’s tracks in return, and this is the spectacular result. This just goes to show that there are a lot of different scenes that can all learn something from each other.

In addition, the unlikely duo also went into the studio together to create a true collaboration. Keep your eyes and ears peeled in January for that one!

HOCKEYSMITH – Share new single “Tears At My Age” – New EP due Jan 25th via Ex-Local

by the partae December 4, 2018
written by the partae
“‘Tears At My Age’ bewitches with a hypnotic mix of R&B vocals and the dream-like state created by classic Cocteau Twins material” – The Fader

Falmouth-based Hockeysmith, the musical alias of Annie Hockeysmith, has announced a new EP ‘Tears At My Age‘, which is set for release Jan 25th via Ex-Local. The title-track, produced by Nis Bysted of Escho, is streaming online now.

In the words of Annie, “Tears At My Age“ is “One for the girls out there and their tears for undeserving boys.”

Annie Hockeysmith’s bewitching electronic explorations connect her immersion in rave subcultures with clearer pop intentions. Weaving glimpses of R&B and synth-pop into shuffling rhythms and gauzy textures, Hockeysmith tempers the post-punk edge of their previous tracks while retaining the same compelling directness – honing in on the urgency gleaned from the linear structures of club music.

Two years in the making and a new live line up (sister and original guitarist Georgie went back to University), Hockeysmith‘s latest project takes root in Cornwall via Copenhagen. The isolated peninsula is renowned for a long- thriving lineage of esoteric art and occult folklore inspired by its arcane landscapes and industrial decay. After putting Hockeysmith on hiatus, Annie retreated out to the Cornish wilderness taking up residence in a converted bus distilling the eerie surroundings into her sound. Inspired by the intrepid spirit and historical significance of Cornwall’s rave scene (the sometimes local Aphex Twin is a fan and friend), Annie set about a period of discovery diving deep into 90s IDM and trip- hop, incorporating these structures with her first love – the visceral shoegaze textures of MBV, Ride, Cocteau Twins, and Sonic Youth.

In this period, Annie traveled frequently between Cornwall and Copenhagen writing with the aim of connecting the influences of two very different, yet exciting underground music communities. In contrast to the isolation and freedom of writing and recording in Cornwall, Copenhagen became more of a collaborative environment working with friends and family of the Escho label (Iceage, Smerz). Escho founder Nis Bysted helped write and produce several tracks which will form part of an album nearing completion. The result is an adventurous collection of electronic pop that masks it’s deeper intention of finding strength through vulnerability with a sheen of inviting bubblegum innocence and lyrical naiveté (nodding to the techno-pop recently brought back into public consciousness by PC Music and like-minded acts) while still preserving its DIY roots and inspirations.

‘Tears At My Age track’ list:

1. Tears At My Age
2. Dare You
3. Lonely Loving Me
4. Messed Up

Rising soul-pop artist Louis Centioni unveils new visual for ‘Here I Go Again’

by the partae December 4, 2018
written by the partae

+ London headline show @ Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club

“Smooth, vocal-led soul” – Dummy Mag

Having been ensconced in the studio recording material for his new EP due 2019, rising South-London singer-songwriter Louis Centioni pre-empts its release with an emotive new visual for his current track ‘Here I Go Again’ and will headline a special London show at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz CLub in Soho on 4th December.

Louis details the track: “With ‘Here I Go Again’ I wanted to draw on being in a long-term relationship and how two people can drift onto an off road course and gradually end up in a bleak state of unhappiness, capturing a timeless and aesthetic feel with the lyrics. The production for this song was inspired by the Netflix special ‘Stranger Things’ which is a firm favourite of mine”.
Louis Centioni, is a 23-year-old singer and songwriter who combines the musical knowledge of his elders with his present day life in reflective new single ‘Here I Go Again’, produced by O Mer. With a healthy dose of nostalgia, Centioni traces his musical influences back to his Italian grandfather and connects those to a more recent fascination – love and consequent heartbreak.
Following his work in the National Youth Jazz orchestra, Louis was soon following the same star studded path as his alumni heroines, securing his own place at the iconic BRIT school, which gave Louis a taste of a more disciplined path into becoming an artist and performer.
A lifetime of honing his craft, Louis Centioni has proven to be an impressive performer, taking to the stage at various London (including Ronnie Scott’s, 100’s Club & the Apple store), and he currently cites his favourite artists as James Blake, John Legend, Billie Eilish, Sohn, Alicia Keys, Khalid, Nina Simone, Jon Hopkins, and Amber Mark. Centioni is rapidly establishing a reputation as one of music’s fastest-rising talents, working with different established & underground producers around the globe including New York artist O Mer (Sony’s Thrive Music) and Tel Aviv’s Niv Ast.

Louis will be headlining Ronnie Scott’s on Tuesday 4th December in London’s Soho.

Almost one year after the debut-Diynamic-EP which held the #1 spot in the Beatport Deep House charts for over a month, Ukranian duo ARTBAT return to Diynamic with their follow up “Upperground EP”.

Opening the EP is title track “Upperground”, an ethereal upbeat House tune which has been an essential component of the sets of Solomun in the past weeks. “Atlas” showcases their ability to step over to the dark side with a fist-pumping melodic Techno thumper.Closing off the record is “Don’t Bring Me Down”, which was written by Dino Lenny and enhanced by ARTBAT’s brush into an emotional dancefloor hymn. The pairing of its string arrangements and the touching vocals of Dino Lenny will surely make for memories that last past the night out in which you hear it.

‘FRESH INGREDIENTS’
Out Now Via Westwood Recordings
STREAM: Spotify | Apple Music | iTunes | Beatport | Soundcloud

“Fresh Ingredients is an eight-track project, which blends the sound of classic UK breakbeat with contemporary electronic.”
-DATA TRANSMISSION

Acclaimed DJ and producer Krafty Kuts stands as one of the leading pioneers responsible for the prominence of breakbeat culture. Boasting countless awards and accreditations for his position as a world-renowned turntablist, Krafty Kuts’ skills on the ones and twos can only be matched by his production talents that have yielded releases on taste making imprints including Ministry Of Sound, OWSLA, Southern Fried, DMC, Fabric, Finger Lickin Records, and many more. Today, Krafty Kuts is now adding Vancouver-based label Westwood Recordings to his discography with a highly-anticipated new EP titled ‘Fresh Ingredients.’

Prefaced with noteworthy EP singles “Impact” and “Light It Up,” Krafty Kuts’ ‘Fresh Ingredients‘ is an eight-track project of original singles that sees the artist splice together the sound of classic UK breakbeat with contemporary electronic influences. Opening with “Fearless,” we see Krafty launch the project alongside longtime collaborator Dynamite MC on the funk and glitch-hop influenced single. Dynamite MC,  a collaborator of The Nextmen, DJ Skitz, Scratch Perverts, Andy C and DJ Zinc, proves an integral part of ‘Fresh Ingredients‘ as he again appears on additional EP cuts “Light It Up,” “Impact,” and “Ain’t No Doubt.” For the remainder of the EP, we hear Krafty Kuts experiment with a multitude of genres and still manage to create a sonically cohesive full project. From the G-House influenced stunner “4Gee$,” to Future Beats anthem “Rollin,” all the way to the classic sound of soul / funk featured on “Horizon,” the full ‘Fresh Ingredients‘ EP proves a testament to Krafty Kuts’ undeniable status as one of the world’s most versatile producers.

Reflecting on Krafty Kuts’ illustrious career, it all began when he first immersed himself in beat culture with the formation of his own b-boy breakdancing crew in the late 80s. From there,  the UK born artist has owned a record store chain, run music labels, promoted critical scene events, formed his own band called Wicked City, and performed to crowds of 40,000 alongside the biggest names in music from the Rolling Stones to The Prodigy.
