Following the premiere on Feb 22nd on triple j Unearthed, Melbourne musician Jiordy will release her first single for 2021, ‘Vigor’, on February 23, co-written and produced by Jahn Rae (bass player for Client Liaison).
The new single follows on from 2020 releases ‘UR Dumb’, ‘Hmmm’ and ‘Weight in Water’, all which received national and global attention from the likes of Spotify, triple j, triple j Unearthed (full rotation) and notable music publications Tonedeaf, Purple Sneakers, Musicfeeds and The Music.
ABOUT VIGOR
An exciting exploration of the bounds of pop as a genre, ‘Vigor’ is about the act of responding to another person’s vitality. In Jiordy’s own words:
“Vigor is about feeding off someone else’s life-force; the kind that takes you to a heightened level. It’s an ode to the inner fire that I believe we all possess, the kind that is ignited when we surround ourselves with people who make us feel elevated and alive”.
Staying true to her signature ethereal sound and evocative visuals, ‘Vigor’ explores themes of energy, movement and growth, elements that are visually showcased through both the musical composition and aesthetic intricacies of the accompanying visuals.
Lyrically, ‘Vigor’ was inspired by a poem of the same name that Jiordy penned at the end of 2020, reflective of her inner growth as an artist and creator. In Jiordy’s own words:
“The slow pace of 2020 was a particularly grounding period for me, which facilitated a new sense of growth and evolution for both myself as an artist and as a human being. This sentiment led me to write a poem, which I titled Vigor, that felt reflective of the time. When I got back into the studio with my producer this year, we started to play around with different elements of sound anchored by a drum beat that was slowed down to a point where it almost flickered, like energy itself. I realised then how seamlessly the poem Vigor slotted into the instrumental track we had created.”
Sonically, the shape-shifting track features atmospheric, glistening synths, hypnotic vocals and a robust drum loop that drives the song forward. Building to a climactic outro with a dance beat to match, layered synths usher the track to its intoxicating conclusion.
‘Vigor’ also features the muffled sounds of children playing, an element inspired by Jiordy’s living proximity to a primary school and the buoyant echoes of children in the schoolyard that resonate through her home:
“The boundless energy and lightness that children inherently possess was of significant inspiration to this track and has been incorporated through experimental soundbites woven throughout the instrumental component of the song” – Jiordy.
‘Vigor’, will be available on all major streaming platforms on February 23rd.
