Dream team R3HAB and Andy Grammer reunite and team up once again for their new release “Close To You,” which follows their first single together “Good Example” from 2020. After releasing “Stars Align” with Chinese best-selling female artist Jolin Tsai and a future festival anthem “Distant Memory” with Timmy Trumpet and W&W, R3HAB shows off a more radio-friendly style with melodies of organic instrumentals and an easy rhythm, which is complemented by Grammer‘s soulful vocals. With lyrics that touch upon feeling connected to someone despite time or space, “Close To You” has an emotive element that serves as a reminder of why Grammer‘s songs like “Don’t Give Up On Me” and “Honey, I’m Good” have made him a favorite artist among millions of listeners. Check out what both artists had to say about their exciting new collaboration “Close To You“:

“When I want to make a next-level feel-good record, I call Andy. He has a bright outlook of the world and channels it into inspiring songs. We loved working on ‘Good Example‘ and have been looking for the right follow-up ever since. Andy shared a demo of ‘Close To You,’ and we were able to bring it to life quickly. I’m excited for the world to hear this song and dance along.” – R3HAB

“When you are with your person, and there is an uncanny feeling that it was meant to be. That’s what I was thinking when writing ‘Close To You.” – Andy Grammer

Dutch/Moroccan DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the better part of the last decade. From his breakthrough hit remix of Afrojack, Pitbull and Ne-Yo‘s “Give Me Everything” to his dance anthems, such as “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” which have collectively amassed over 600M streams, to his collaborations with the likes of ZAYN, Andy Grammer, Sofia Carson, Olivia Holt and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most talented and forward-thinking artists in the game. He partnered with Spotify and GATTÜSO to create the first-ever official “mint” single release. In 2016 he founded his label CYB3RPVNK, which passed one billion streams on its catalog within the first two years since its inception. R3HAB himself continues to evolve and diversify his sound by working with a variety of artists around the globe, experimenting with everything from hip-hop to pop through his collaborations. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, in 2021 R3HAB is continuing his journey among electronic music’s elite.

Since his self-titled debut, award-winning multi-platinum artist and songwriter Andy Grammer has been inspiring listeners around the world. Andy has scored seven chart-topping hits, which together have been streamed over a billion times worldwide—including his first break-out songs “Keep Your Head Up” and its follow-up “Fine By Me.” His 2014 sophomore album, Magazines or Novels, went gold and yielded the gold single “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah).” During this chapter, the single “Honey, I’m Good” reached quadruple-platinum status globally, emerging as “one of the best-selling songs of that year.” He maintained this streak on 2017’s The Good Parts. The standout song “Fresh Eyes” achieved platinum status and reached over 350 million streams. In addition to reaching fans through his music, Andy also makes a strong connection through live shows as he consistently sold-out headline gigs on his 2018 and 2019 tours. Building upon that foundation, his 2019 fourth full-length, Naive, amplifies both his message and musicianship. The first single “Don’t Give Up On Me,” was also highlighted in the critically acclaimed film  Five Feet Apart. The song went on to be certified platinum and now has an impressive 350M global streams to date. It was also used in a campaign for ESPN‘s 13th annual V Week for Cancer Research, entitled “One,” which landed Grammer a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction and a Clio Award. Throughout the last year, Grammer spent a majority of his time in the studio working on new music that will be released this Spring. His new song “Close To You” with R3HAB is the first of many exciting things Grammer has in store for 2021.

Matt most recently held the role of Executive Director, Mushroom Group from 2013.   In the eight years following, Matt and Michael worked side by side at the helm of Australia’s most powerful independent entertainment group, overseeing over 250 employees and two dozen companies.
Formed in 1972, the Mushroom Group encompasses touring and events, record labels and artist services, publishing, merchandising, booking agencies, film and television production, talent management, venues, creative services and a brand agency.

Praise for Ex-Olympian

2SER Feature Album

“He has hit his stride” – The Age / Sydney Morning Herald (Mikey Cahill)

“a wonderful introduction to the world of “Dream Funk”” – AU Review

“The vintage disco-infused production sounds so effortless, which is quite funny because when you start to really listen it’s pretty apparent that a lot of work has gone into making it sound so breezy. That’s without doubt one of the marks of a great artist.” – Double J

“You’ll get lost in the music of Ex-Olympian” – Mixdown Mag

Afterlife Remixed is a fresh take on Ex-Olympian’s 2020 debut Afterlife, calling on some friends, favourite musicians & DJs to rework some of their favourite songs on the record – giving them an Afterlife of their own. Afterlife Remixed is out now via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records.

The original record itself was influenced by themes of starting again, trial & error, renewal and dialogue. Liam McGorry aka Ex-Olympian says: “In this way, I thought it would be interesting to extend that dialogue and ask those same friends to reinterpret the works they have helped inspire in the first place”.

Featuring reworks by the College of Knowledge, GL, Alice Ivy, Katarzyna Wiktorski, Penny Dub, Pepito and Mike Gurrieri, it slides across the musical spectrum from jazz to soul, acid house and funk from song to song.

Alice Ivy, on her rework of ‘Voices In My Head‘: “Afterlife was one of my favourite records of 2020, I’m honoured that I was asked to remix ‘Voices In My Head’. The original mix had so much emotion to it, I wanted to tap into that energy in a more dancier way. Liam and I have shared a studio for a couple of years and he has contributed to a whole bunch of Alice songs with his horn playing,  so this one was extra special to me!  Thank you Ex-Olympian for trusting me with it!”

The first single from the EP was a College of Knowledge rework of the stunning ‘Lilac Youth’. Channelling the spirit of David Axelrod himself, College flip the original in a long-form funky meditation, like only they can… featuring some lyrical Farfisa melodies, intricate guitar lines and soulful Hohner D6 clavinet.

The work’s second taste, Penny In The Well (feat. Sam Lawrence), gets the Jarrad Brown treatment as Penny Dub. Jarrad & Liam have shared a special bond as friends since meeting while recording for Jarrad’s band Eagle and the Worm, continuing as housemates, and collaborating together in Dorsal Fins. The rework itself is equal parts Sly & Robbie and Stereolab, taking the effervescent original and transforming it into a downtempo after-hours affair.

Jarrad says: “As with many of Liam’s projects- I’ve been at the intersection of enjoying Liam’s record as a fan + also watching & being part of the making of it. Afterlife captures Liam shifting between personal creative expression and the collaboration of his community around him. My remix meets Liam’s sounds as a fan, through the lens of the community within Afterlife.

Ex-Olympian is the new musical vessel for Liam McGorry – songwriter & musician for bands such as Saskwatch and Dorsal Fins. Named after the neon sign that adorns ‘Borsari’s Corner’ in Melbourne’s Lygon St, Ex-Olympian reflects the times we all need to shift things forward into a new phase. His debut record Afterlife saw McGorry received additions across Double J and national community radio play from 2SER, RRR, FBi, PBS, 4ZZZ and RTR.

Introducing Behind You who share caustic new song ‘Burning’

PRAISE FOR BEHIND YOU

Independent Artist Of The Week

“Sickeningly good”
Declan Byrne, triple j (4 stars)

“Spreading chaos in all directions and scorching the earth in its wake,
Behind You just summed up the 2020 mood with caustic energy in under 3 minutes”

Dave Ruby Howe, triple j Unearthed (4 stars)

“To be extremely clear, this song is really good”
Sound Doctrine

Introducing local electronic punks Behind You with their new song ‘Burning‘ accompanied by an enthralling self-directed video. Written during the peak of crisis, ‘Burning‘ is an anthem for the end times. Listen HERE, watch HERE.

The group of Frank Fisher (vocals), Joe Goddard (production) and Dylan Clay (percussion), Behind You present the sonic amalgam of free-genre connoisseurs black midi, Show Me The Body’s hardcore roots, with the aplomb of MC Ride and Royal Headache’s Shogun.

Frenetic, impulsive, and fully charged, Behind You present another joyride through space and restraint on ‘Burning‘. Toms and fills on the verge of bursting, vocals a breath away from feeling winded, a stop-start beat that keeps you guessing – ‘Burning‘s 3-minute chug is a gut-punch. Their biggest inspirations: depravity, vertigo, and spoken word that rewards upon repeated listen. Unpredictable and considered, ‘Burning‘ blends their mutual love for The Drones, Death Grips and Black Country, New Road, to create their own take on industrial hip hop and hardcore.

Of the video, the band share, “For the video, we returned to some of the bushland around where we grew up. It felt like there was something prophetic or tragic about staging an act of narcissism in these places which might not exist in 100 years. Watching the footage back we realised there was this irony about it which made the extravagance of the track feel like a farce – screaming into a cheap camera while bushwalkers pass by – so we leaned into that during the edit.”

Based out of Sydney’s Inner West, Behind You began as a duo in 2017 and released a slew of singles and EPs, performing to small crowds in dark venues around the city. Things changed in 2020 with the entrance of their live percussionist, and the release of their last single ‘More Like Fresh‘ turned heads, drawing praise from the likes of triple j Unearthed and FBi Radio’s Independent Artist of the Week.

Behind You stand as one of Australia’s most exciting experimental bands right now, stay tuned for more.

‘Burning‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

ONSLOW UNVEIL COLOSSAL DEBUT SINGLE ‘LET ME RUST’

by the partae April 9, 2021

SUPPORT FOR ‘LET ME RUST’

“It felt like the band had reached through the radio gripped me by the collar. Heavyweight alt rock with the emotion in overdrive.” – 4/5 stars
Dave Ruby Howe – triple j Unearthed (AUS)

“A grungey alt-rock banger that’s going to wow fans and showcase a different musical side to these two musicians!“
Wall of Sound (AUS)

Premiered on triple j’s Short.Fast.Loud w/ Josh Merriel

Perth-based melodic-punk group Onslow have just revealed their titanic debut single ‘Let Me Rust’ – produced and mixed by Matthew Templeman (Make Them Suffer, Voyager, Statues).

Opening with poignant guitar chords, ‘Let Me Rust’ vigorously bursts with potent drums and driven distorted riffs, before the melancholic vocals of Sean Harmanis guide the track dynamically through quiet verses and compelling choruses. Emotionally charged hooks lead into an entrancing bridge, where colourful harmonies then pave the way for a monumental finale to bring the song to its abrupt ending.

Harmanis talks about the process behind ‘Let Me Rust’:

“This tune was probably the main catalyst for starting the band in general. To me, the song is about feeling as if you’re going to waste. At the time, I was struggling to find purpose and felt as if I very had little direction in my life. Between Make Them Suffer tours I felt an increasing sense of isolation and separation from my friends and normal life at home. This led to some unhealthy habits. The lyrics ‘Let me rust. Drink me empty. Turn to dust, slow and steady’ are about the vicious and unhealthy cycle I felt I had fallen into and the increasing sense of isolation that paired with my reclusivity. Musically, I tried not to think about it too much. I just see each section as a bite-sized moment from my favourite bands of my early adolescence. They come together to form the alt-rock Frankenstein that the song is.”

Onslow consists of hardcore-scene behemoths Sean Harmanis (Make Them Suffer), and Scott Kay (Voyager, Statues, Absent Heart). Expanding from their roots, the two musicians confidently show their ability to blend heavier music elements with angst-fuelled punk lyricism, taking cues from Deftones, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

‘Let Me Rust’ is available worldwide now

Groove City

by the partae April 9, 2021
written by the partae
What is your name and role within Groove City?

Hiya! I’m Cal and I’m the singer & songwriter.

Where are you currently based?

We just moved back home from Melbourne to Sydney.

How did Groove city form?
I’d taken about 6 months off music, licking my wounds from the break up of my turbulent first band, Thunderthief.
Dan and I had been spending a lot of time together forming our friendship via funk nights out listening to all our favourite music and dancing the night away.

That’s when I knew I was ready again. One evening not soon after I called Dan asking if he wanted to start a disco duo and before I could finish my pitch he cut me off mid sentence telling me to “shut up already, I’m IN” and promptly hung up on me.

What’s been happening recently?

We just played our homecoming show, Moonlanding, at The Factory Theatre with our new 3 part horn section, The Hornshank Redemption.

Your new track ‘Making Love On The Moon’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
Mayer Hawthorne has been an influence since we formed, but particularly recently with his latest singles album. It’s full of beefed up nods to 70s/80s yacht rock and pocket groove. That’s where we want to take our sound.

As per usual, love inspired the songwriting. This time, it’s from a new found love and where it could go.

How did you go about writing Making Love On The Moon?

It usually starts with my acoustic and I spending some time together. I write the chords, vocal melody, lyrics and structure and then take the first draft to the boys. We plug in and from there.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

We’ve had a home studio for the last 3 years. This was the last track we recorded in our studio during lockdown in melbourne last October. It’s also the first song of ours that we recorded, produced and master completely ourselves.

How did you approach the recording process?

We usually record a draft vocal and guitar and then build each instrument layer by layer. Multiple times as each roles part becomes more developed.

You’ve played massive sold out Headline shows as well as playing other great acts being Confidence Man, Client Liaison and Flight Facilities to name a few, how do you prepare for live shows and what do you most enjoy about playing live?
Our live shows involve a whole team these days. Most nights are spent playing the set over and over and then working with our wonderful lighting wizard, Lachie, on cues and colours.

The best part about playing live is the crowd. Seeing people singing along to our songs and having their own connection to those lyrics and dancing free of any worry is something truly special and I cherish that.

You’ve also had massive success on Spotify and Tik Tok, how has social media impacted Groove City?
Our South Yarra train station performance of Gold Chevvy really made people feel something during lockdown last year, huh?

Social Media really forced us to think outside the box while stuck at home last year. Our best is yet to come.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Always listening to Steely Dan, Toto and Whitney Houston but I’ve actually been listening to Ben Folds Five most recently!

What do you like to do away from music?

Pretend I’m Larry Bird winning his third consecutive 3 point competition.

What’s planned for 2021?

Finishing up a couple more singles, a live tour, a disco concept album and launching another project ‘Hot Glass’.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Mary’s Newtown.

MICRA RELEASE TWO-TRACKER 'UNDERCOVER LOVER' AND 'I SHOULDN'T HAVE LISTENED'
Music News

MICRA RELEASE TWO-TRACKER ‘UNDERCOVER LOVER’ AND ‘I SHOULDN’T HAVE LISTENED’

by the partae April 8, 2021
written by the partae
Today, Sydney-based rising dream-pop duo Micra – Ivana Kafedjiyska and Robbie Cain – share their dynamic two-tracker ‘Undercover Lover’ and ‘I Shouldn’t Have Listened’.

A cathartic track with swelling synths, engrossing bass and compelling production, ‘Undercover Lover’ explores the process of surrendering:

“There are some people in your life that go under the radar or your circumstances don’t allow you to fully connect. This song is about when all the bullshit is done and you can just let your guard down to be with someone who’s been under your nose the whole time.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q43FKVBUHo
‘Undercover Lover’s’ intoxicating slow-burn is boldly juxtaposed against the rockier ‘I Shouldn’t Have Listened’. With an energetic beat and memorable hooks, the synergy between the duo’s intuitive production and complex songwriting makes room for the track’s unexpected twists and turns. As Micra explain, the song’s intensity comes from emotional pain:
“Letting other people’s thoughts dictate your actions never ends in satisfaction, yet we still do it all the time. Sometimes this can be a little different in the case of chasing after someone. Other people can see the situation clearly when you are not able to. This song is about a time when indecision and external influences led to a whole lot of hurt.”
The two-tracker is a neat follow-up to Micra’s previous single ‘Sonata’, a hypnotic track which strengthened their position in the dream-pop landscape and saw extensive support from indie-tastemakers globally including David Dean Burkhart, as well as major playlisting across DSPs. ‘Sonata’ was also playlisted by TikTok on release.

During a tumultuous 2020, Micra kept busy by releasing a steady flow of singles with accompanying DIY live videos, finishing the year off with a breezy, hypnotic cover of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool’s hit ‘Dance The Way I Feel’. Previous single ‘Coral Crush’ explored a more pop-centric side to the duo and was coined by Pilerats as “a masterclass in the excellence Micra has consistently shown us over the last few years”. Whilst earlier release ‘Under My Skin’ was named Clash Music’s ‘Track of the Day’ and was added to RUFUS DU SOL’s ‘Headphone Selections’ playlist.

A sonic experiment from Bulgarian born and raised singer/ guitarist Ivana Kafedjiyska and Australian guitarist/producer Robbie Cain, the duo performed a flurry of impressive, sold-out shows at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory and La La La’s in Wollongong in November last year. Micra will perform at Pressure Fest in Sydney on April 24.

“Compelling” – NME
“Soothing yet hypnotic” – DIY
“Melodies that squirm and stay in your brain” – The Fader
“Gorgeous – they can’t stray far wrong” – Crack

After returning with a new song last month, Crumb are back to share two new tracks, ‘BNR‘ and ‘Balloon‘, and an accompanying video for ‘BNR‘. Like the previously-released single ‘Trophy’, the two new songs elevate their infectious sound, with the video for ‘BNR‘ acting as the perfect visual counterpart as an eerie and dystopian tale unfolds.

Speaking on the new songs, Lila Ramani says: “’BNR‘ is an ode to my favorite colors. I had a weird obsession with those colors in winter 2018-2019 and felt like they would follow me around everywhere I went. ‘Balloon‘ tells the story of a girl that dances so fast in the club that her head falls off.”

Crumb are Lila Ramani, Bri Aronow, Jesse Brotter and Jonathan Gilad. ‘BNR‘ and ‘Balloon‘ join ‘Trophy‘ as the first releases from the group since their 2019 debut album Jinx, which Pitchfork described as having a “hypnotic quality [that] grows ever more romantic and tense with repeat listens.”

DON DIABLO DROPS WORLD'S FIRST FULL LENGTH CONCERT NFT 'DESTINATION HEXAGONIA'
Music News

DON DIABLO DROPS WORLD’S FIRST FULL LENGTH CONCERT NFT ‘DESTINATION HEXAGONIA’

by the partae April 8, 2021
written by the partae

Dutch visionary Don Pepijn Schipper – best known as Don Diablo – is set to make history as he prepares to drop the world’s first full length concert NFT. The follow up to his sensational Genesis NFT, ‘Destination Hexagonia’ will go on auction on esteemed digital art platform SuperRare this Friday 9th April.

Renowned for his futuristic aesthetic and equally avant-garde vision, Don made an explosive entrance into the crypto-art scene with the release of his GΞNΞSIS NFT last month. Forming a hybrid between the physical and digital art world unlike anything that has been seen before, the Dutch artist’s musical holographic crypto-art piece sold for 110 Ξ (200,000 USD) – one of the highest debut prices for a one of one NFT art piece debut.

Driven by this constant desire to push creative boundaries, Don’s sophomore piece is sure to disrupt the digital art sphere once again. Over a year in the making, the stunning feature length concert has been a labour of love for Don. A self-proclaimed huge sci-fi enthusiast, for his next venture, Don wanted to combine his passion for filmography and films such as Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey with his successful career as a musician. A testament to his commitment to nurturing new talent through all of his platforms, Don selected up-and-coming videographer Paul Snijder to work alongside him to bring the phenomenal project to life.

Not one to be content with simply releasing the world’s first NFT concert, true to form, Don has taken his concept to the next level, crafting a stunning sci-fi animated live piece, that effortlessly fuses his role as a filmmaker, artist and world-renowned DJ. The 1 of 1 piece will go on sale on SuperRare, with the winning bidder becoming the sole owner of a one-hour exclusive NFT experience, and a piece of crypto-art history. As with his Genesis NFT, Don has also added a nostalgic element to his futuristic piece. Bringing a physical touch to the virtual once again, the ‘Destination Hexagonia’ NFT will come in a unique hand-crafted box, which includes a harddrive that contains the only copy of the high quality file of the film, making it a true collectible.

Speaking about his upcoming drop Don said, “My GΞNΞSIS drop went beyond all my expectations, and that really inspired me. I immediately felt such a warm welcome into the NFT community, and with that feel a responsibility to continue to push things further into the future and keep disrupting status quo. At this point we almost feel like this particular piece has become priceless because we worked on it for almost a year and put an incredible amount of love and effort into it. What’s next? I’ve got some incredibly exciting collaborations lined up and I can not wait to share it with the world very soon, this is just the beginning.”

Promising to give back to the NFT community, a large portion of the profits from the sale of ‘Destination Hexagonia’ will go to the HEXAGON Foundation, which Don has created in order to help artists in the NFT space. The foundation will enable artists to apply for support with everything that helps them to create, share  and sell their art.

Forever pushing the boundaries, Don’s latest drop is a visual reminder of his desire to transform the cultural space he inhibits. The hour-long movie is a radical departure from the short form pieces that have dominated the NFT world up until now. “Hopefully this will inspire others to push harder and to think bigger”.

The first of the new episodes will be a seldom-seen January 16, 2008 In-Store-performance-turned-impromptu-club-show from London’s 93ft East.

The January 16, 2008 show was originally intended to be an In-Store performance at London record store Rough Trade East to mark the conventional release of the In Rainbows album—a plan that went awry when hordes of fans and overwhelming media coverage caught the attention of the local authorities. The entire production had to be torn down and a replacement venue found at a moment’s notice. The show ultimately happened at 93ft East, a club with a capacity of a few hundred that was thankfully available for the night. The result was an electric and intimate Radiohead performance like no other, one largely unseen since – until now.

Subscribe to be alerted to regular updates to the channel, and/or check out the existing playlist HERE.

In other news, for a limited time, Radiohead will be making available a Radiohead crew T-shirt – the same original shirts distributed to touring and local crew – with proceeds benefitting a range of stage & crew organisations supported at #WeMakeEvents. HOKO release official music video for latest single ‘Big Mistake’

by the partae April 7, 2021
written by the partae

Fresh off the back of the release of their debut project HEATHEN, New York’s HOKO have released a new set of visuals for their latest single, ‘Big Mistake’.

Directed by James Mountford, the video puts HOKO songwriter and lead vocalist Nathaniel Hoho to work, bringing new energy to an already spirited original.

As part of the wider HEATHEN EP, ‘Big Mistake’ is a standout point for HOKO – the song is a fleshed out and fully realised example of the type of band they are. Striking and captivating at their core.

A track that focuses on the dissolution of relationships, viewed through a sharp and entertaining indie pop lens, ‘Big Mistake’ is anything but for HOKO. It’s a touchstone release for the group, who have been taking strides since their inception only a few years ago.

“I feel like most songs come to you and write themselves through you, but I’m pretty sure ‘Big Mistake’ is a song about some of my exes. It’s a pop song with sitars and yoyos weaved through it; it’s a perfect example of the line we wanted to walk for HOKO. Exploring pop but keeping it unique and a little cynical. For the record, I have no hard feelings towards any of my exes who may read this; everyone is someone’s Big Mistake, I know I am!” Nathaniel Hoho, HOKO

Recently, HOKO took part in Rolling Stone Australia’s ‘In My Room’ series, where they performed ‘Big Mistake’ as well as ‘Starlite’ and ‘Hellogoodbye’ in a special stripped back style.

Says Rolling Stone of ‘Big Mistake in particular, it is ‘a track that perfectly helps to encapsulate the HOKO sound, in this case features Hoho’s Weeknd-esque voice, and luscious, subtle backing instrumentation that mix ambient soundscapes with electronic melodies.’

PRAISE FOR HOKO

“HEATHEN is an album that sees HOKO fully flex on their ability to produce music that is likeable for almost everyone. Pushing the boundaries on all types of sounds, they really have a knack for producing tunes that sucks the listener in and takes them on a ride.”
AAA Backstage“The EP is a stunning showcase of a band who are likely set to be household names in no time.”

Alt-rock quartet The Wrecks are starting off the year strong with the release of their new single, I Want My Life Back Now, available to stream today via Big Noise. The track is an upbeat and positive tune about wanting that special someone back and wanting to go back to the way things were.

On the track that is guaranteed to hit you right in the feels, front man Nick Anderson shares, “Contrary to the suspiciously timely nature of the song’s title, ‘I Want My Life Back Now’ is not a Covid-19 cash-grab. Although, if you can imagine going through a break-up in the middle of an already devastatingly lonely global pandemic, this song might resonate a bit.”

The release of I Want My Life Back Now follows up The Wreck’s newest EP Static, released towards the end of 2020 via Big Noise. Static is made up of 4 tracks that cover everything from ballads to upbeat dance tracks. Static is available to stream now at thewrecks.ffm.to/static.

The Wrecks formed in 2015 in Thousand Oaks, CA. With heavy influences from The Pixies, The Strokes, and Weezer, they snuck into a recording studio to self-produce their debut EP, We Are The Wrecks. The group’s 2018 follow-up, Panic Vertigo, earned similar acclaim, with Ones To Watch hailing the four-piece as “indie rock’s best kept-secret” and Billboard calling them “as authentic and honest as possible.” Since then, the band has secured a number of nationwide tours while opening for bands such as Nothing But Thieves, Silversun Pickups, The Struts, New Politics, Paramore, and All Time Low.

The Wrecks are:

Nick Anderson

Aaron Kelley

Nick “Schmizz” Schmidt

Billy Nally

PRAISE FOR THE WRECKS

“The alt-rockers are finally giving fans the album they’ve been waiting for” – Billboard

“A MASTERPIECE” – MTV

“The Wrecks should be your new favorite alternative rock band.” – Ones to Watch

“This is alt-rock on fire. Burn, babies, burn.” – idobi Radio

Emmit Fenn once again orchestrates the sounds of even the most complex human emotions in new single ‘Moving On,‘ out now on all platforms. Evolving from a desperate chant into a liberated electronic breakdown, the twinkling record builds momentum over the 4-minutes for a euphoric release.

The single is yet another from Emmit’s forthcoming debut album, Far From Here. The long-awaited project is undoubtedly setting up to be the soundtrack to your escapism. At times during 2020, we’ve all wanted to travel “Far From Here” and the album is for those looking to escape in search of hope.

The independent artist is one of the few collaborators to have worked alongside pop phenomenon Billie Eilish, co-writing and co-producing her ‘bitches broken hearts‘ in 2017. Emmit has also produced for the likes of Lolo Zouai, Yuna, Ry X, Shallou and Vic Mensa and scored the TV show Five Points for Mary Ramos (Quentin Tarantino’s music supervisor). To date, Emmit has also garnered over 120 million streams across platforms.

Throughout quarantine, Emmit has also kept connected with friends and fans through sharing exclusive content and new music via Discord and Community.

Hoko

by the partae April 7, 2021
written by the partae

What is your name and role within Hoko?

Nathaniel Hoho – I am the writer and vocalist for the band.

Where are you currently based?

NYC has been my home for the longest, but this year I spent most of my time in Australia between Sydney and Fremantle WA. I love Freo and am eager to get back.

How did Hoko form?

HOKO formed while I was living in LA working on projects for some other artists as a songwriter. I was focused on being a writer for nearly two years with no interest at all in doing an artist project but as I started collecting more and more songs of my own I started to become obsessed with the idea. Now I’m obsessed with the idea of playing shows.

Your EP ‘Heathen’ is being released on March 26 what influenced the sound and songwriting?

HEATHEN is the first half of a project we’ve spent almost 2 years conceptualizing.

Our aim was to create a body of work that sounded big, but was also sonically interesting, with songs that are accessible, but also have layers and complexity. All of my favorite albums give me something new every time I hear them, so that’s always something in the back of mind when finishing a song. Visually we wanted to pay homage to the artistic direction of artists like David Bowie & Queen who created beautiful images that stand on their own as art, not only as an accompaniment to the music.  We’ve been influenced by artists like Terry Gilliam, Cary Foji Fukunaga, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Danish designer Henri Vibskov. Currently we are exploring a dark and muted world. Despite some peoples first impressions visually we are not a hard rock or metal band, haha. For HEATHEN I wanted to create something that embodied some of the struggles I endured trying to find my own voice as an artist for HEATHEN. Mentally I was constantly fighting the pressure of wearing a mask, for fear of not fitting in, based on the opinions and judgments of my peers. We come from a very Alt/DIY background, but for HOKO we wanted to focus on writing Pop music for the first time, which can be taboo in the circles we come from. We worked on HEATHEN bouncing between NY and LA, and ultimately landed back in NY at the end of creating it. LA stretched us creatively into new territories of Pop and the energy of NY kept us inspired to hold fast to our desire to separate ourselves creatively.

What’s the meaning and story behind the lead single ‘Big Mistake’?

I’ve heard that every relationship is practice until you meet “the one”? My dating history involves some pretty big red flags that I failed to miss while wearing hormone enduced rose-colored glasses…including an ex going to prison as an accomplice to kidnapping and armed robbery… I feel like most songs come to you and write themselves through you, but I’m pretty sure Big Mistake is song about some of my exes. Sonically, Big Mistake is a Pop song with sitar’s and yoyo’s weaved through it. It’s perfect example of the line we wanted to walk for HOKO. Exploring Pop, but keeping it unique and a little cynical. For the record, I have no hard feelings towards any of my ex’s that may read this. Everyone is someone’s Big Mistake, I know I am!

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Because the project was created over such a period of time I would work on it in different locations. At home, both in NY, LA, and Australia. In NYC we worked at Shifted Studios in Brooklyn. In LA we worked at several of our friends studios. Michael Freeman is our mix engineer. Producers that we worked with are Mike Irish ( of Shifted Recording ) John Hill ( Santigold, Portugal the Man, Cage the Elephant) and Andrew Wells ( Kaiser Chiefs, Halsey ).

What programs/equipment did you use?

I work mostly on Logic it feels like the most versatile DAW to me. However all the songs were run through so many different DAWs depending on who was doing what. Mike is on Ableton, John Ableton and PT and Wells on PT.

How did you approach the recording process?

Really no rhyme or reason we just worked with what we had around at any given time and did our best to give it a nice vibe. We used starters from fireplaces at times for HiHats that we recorded on our iPhones. At the very end we had our friend Gus Oberg come in who produced a few of The Strokes records to record some live drums, but we only ended up using them for a few tracks.

What did you find most challenging and rewarding during the creation of Heathen?

The most challenging part of creating Heathen was that we wanted to try and create something that sounded unique to HOKO – because this was our first project finding that sound took some time. You start a project with endless possibilities so finding lines and similarities that can run through a collection of songs took us a little bit of time to find. The most rewarding part by far has been releasing the music and hearing from fans who are listening and connecting with the music. We haven’t been able to tour or play a show yet due to Covid but we have been speaking with fans over social media from all over the world. Its an amazing feeling to know that something you put so much of yourself into is connect with someone else. It really brings the whole creative process full circle.

What do you like to do away from music?

Good question. I really work on music nearly everyday in some way and if I don’t I feel a little lost. The last year has been alot of time conceptualizing artwork and music videos for HOKO. Other than that I love to swim, surf, eat, hang with my dog.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

At the moment I’ve been listening to alot of The Strokes, Hot Chip, and Grimes.

What’s planned for 2021?

We have some festivals coming up in US and are planning to be touring the end of the year in the states.  We also will be releasing more music!

Favourite food and place to hangout?

NYC – love to hang at Niagara and eat next door at Miss Lillies.

HEY BABY! TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘WALKING HOME’

by the partae April 7, 2021
written by the partae
HEY BABY! are an alternative/surf/punk band from Brisbane Australia and they are set to drop their new single ‘Walking Home’ via Riot Records (Part of Golden Robot Global Entertainment) on 20th April.

‘Walking Home’ is a sonic punk anthem about bumping into your ex and hooking up; don’t do it! In four and a half minutes you will ride a wave of anger, bitterness, and cynicism, peppered with desire and lost love. Backed by blistering guitars, wild drum fills that impossibly stay in time, and supersonic soundscapes that layer upon themselves to create gooey waves of punk rock goodness.

HEY BABY! are known for their fast, jangly, energetic tunes and highly entertaining  live show.

HEY BABY! TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE 'WALKING HOME'

ABOUT HEY BABY!

Hey Baby! began eight years ago when 16-year-old Kacper Majchrowski first learnt how to record his musings on a computer, using a simple drum machine and running guitars and basses through a preamp.

When Kacper made the move from Sydney to Brisbane he met drummer Jaeger Brodie while jamming at a house party, bonding over a similar music tastes. This later inspired the name of the band’s debut EP Couch House after the name of the hang out spot.

Wanting to form a band, they put a call out on the Internet for another guitarist, which was answered by local shredder Sam Wilson – who impressed the pair with her lightning fretwork.

After losing their bass player to bigger and better things, the band enlisted Callum Young, the guitarist of Jaeger’s other band ‘The Jumpkicks to play bass and the quartet launched straight into recording their sophomore EP.

Since releasing their debut single ‘1800-WEED’ the band have toured and lit up the stage with the likes of Press Club, Crocodylus, The Pretty Littles, Coolboys and the Frontman, Totty, The Sleepyheads, Dear Seattle and more.
