Praise for Joy Orbison – still slipping vol. 1
“Rarely is electronic music so utterly human as on Still Slipping” – Pitchfork
“One of the greatest producers in UK dance music.” – Resident Advisor
“If there was going to be one mixtape we all needed to hear in 2021, it would probably be Joy Orbison’s debut, Still Slipping Vol.1, an aural assimilation of the best of British bass culture.”
– Loud & Quiet
“A Joy Orbison full-length, whether you call it a mixtape or an album, has to be among the most hotly-anticipated ideas in UK dance music writ large.” – Resident Advisor
“Already sounding like one of the albums of the year” – Mixmag
“The second you just change the language to mixtape,” a woman’s voice deadpans at the end of sparko, “nobody cares”. It’s a droll bit of irony for a record crafted with such care. still slipping is anything but thrown together – in fact, it’s hard to imagine a more holistically conceived set of tracks. This is a body of work that definitely deserves to be taken seriously.” – CRACK Magazine
“One of the most quietly moving dance music records of the year” – Pitchfork
“To diehard UK clubgoers, a full-length project is something people didn’t necessarily expect or need to hear from Joy Orbison. This is the man behind ‘Ellipsis’, ‘GR Etiquette’ and ‘Hyph Mngo’, for god’s sake. By ignoring all rules and blending UK garage, UK funky, house and dubstep, his impact upon dancefloors is already written. No, with Still Slipping Vol. 1, O’Grady is letting us know: this is something new.” – The Quietus
“A long-awaited, essential debut” – DJ Mag
“His boldest and most intimate productions to date” – Wire Magazine
About Joy Orbison
In August 2021 year, Peter O’Grady aka Joy Orbison released his long-awaited debut longform project still slipping vol.1, the latest creative milestone from an artist who’s been shaping and redefining dance music since his teens. To say the record was highly anticipated would be an understatement: so influential have been his releases over the last decade that it’s hard to believe that still slipping was his first full length record. Released to huge acclaim still slipping vol. 1 is widely regarded as one of the best electronic records in recent years, winning Album of the Year at the 2021 DJ Mag Awards while his music featured in a host of end of year Best Of lists including Pitchfork, Crack, The Quietus, Resident Advisor, Clash and more.
First coming to prominence in 2009 with his debut single ‘Hyph Mngo‘ – a track that became a bonafide phenomenon and changed the dance music underground forever – the London musician, DJ and producer is undoubtedly one of the most renowned, respected and influential electronic artists of his generation. Whether through his own game-changing releases such as ‘Ellipsis‘, ‘GR Etiquette‘, ‘Big Room Tech House DJ Tool-TIP!‘ or the Slipping EP, collaborations with the likes of Mansur Brown, Overmono and cutting edge Japanese clothing label Cav Empt, a run of genre-defining releases on his Hinge Finger label, a BBC Radio 1 residency, Grand Theft Auto radio station or live appearances that span the most credible underground nights to festival headline slots around the world, the name Joy Orbison has been a constant byword for understated, uncompromising quality.
After rounding off 2021 with the acclaimed ‘red velve7‘ single, 2022 is set to be another defining year for Joy Orbison with a host of new music on the way. Meanwhile, his monthly London party Just For You launched in January with queues around the block, while April will see him take over the legendary Ministry Of Sound venue for a one-off hometown party. He’s also set to be a key name at festivals around the globe including Junction 2, NOS Primavera, Melt, Parklife, Sonar, Dour and All Points East.

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK
A Documentary About the Music Industry and the Environment
greenisthenewblack.film
Conceived during the catastrophic bush fires of early 2020, filmed during the global pandemic and released as unprecedented floods have devastated the East coast of Australia, Green Is The New Black holds a mirror up to the music industry and its relationship to the environment.
PLAY/WATCH
Green Is The New Black chronicles the making of In Hearts Wake’s 100% carbon offset 2020 album Kaliyuga and their journey to become a certified Carbon Neutral Organisation but it’s more than a film about one band and one album. As In Hearts Wake examine their processes and search for more environmentally sustainable options, inspiring new possibilities for an entire industry begin to emerge.
Through conversations with creatives, experts and professionals including Damon Gameau (2040, That Sugar Film), Tamara Smith (Greens Member for Parliament), AY Young (United Nations Young Leader), Jessica Ducrou (Splendour in the Grass Festival Co-founder), Heidi Lennfer (FEAT Artists) and Luke Logemann (UNFD Records), In Hearts Wake uncover unsettling truths, face human adversity and discover inspiring solutions for a new earth-aligned way forward.
Green Is The New Black will screen at Bangalow Film Festival on April 12, with 100% of ticket sales to be donated to local charities directly assisting the Northern Rivers flood recovery.
Kicking off in Earth Week, Green Is The New Black will then screen at Palace Cinemas around Australia as well as special screenings in Los Angeles, Toronto and London.

Where are you currently based?
I’m currently based in Melbourne. All my recording, mixing and mastering is done in Melbourne as well!
How did you first start playing music?
I was enrolled in music lessons from a young age by my mum. I learnt piano in primary school, dabbled in some violin (which I was really bad at) and started some vocal lessons around age eleven. High-school was where I kind of realised my passion for music — I started doing live performance gigs through school, heaps of musical theatre too.
It just kinda went up from there I guess.
I kept reaching for bigger goals and eventually found myself in a recording studio in 2020, and I just fell in love with all that comes with being a recording artist. It’s such a different environment, and the skillset in comparison to live performance is mental — it’s a whole other world.
What’s been happening recently?
I’ve been working towards my EP really. Conceptualising lots of different aspects to go alongside the music. My favourite part of creating and being an artist is thinking of visuals, graphics —all of it. There’s something so fantastic about bringing music to life visually, especially when it’s your own story.
The tracks for the EP have been in the works since early 2021 and I’m so excited with the way it’s all shaping up. It’s truly just an audio representation of growth and experimentation. It means so much to me and I’m beyond excited for it to come out..
Your second single ‘get2going’ will be released on March 27, 2022, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
I was really into dance and hyper-pop, like ‘PinkPantheress’ type vibe when I wrote it. I wanted something sexy, fast and catchy. It all really comes together when I’m in the studio with Ben—it just ties itself in a nice little bow. We just vibe, with loose intention and the end result is always exactly what I’d hoped for, I really don’t know how we do it to be honest. I knew I wanted the sound to be maximal, lots of layers, lots of stacks and heaps of little details that just bring the song together. I usually write a hook on its own or to a beat, then we just build from there.
How did you go about writing get2going?
I wrote the hook in my room kind of accidentally, just walking around my house humming this line about ‘waking up in heaven with u’, then without thinking too hard and it just slipped out and I was like oh.. that’s kinda cool
Then I just wrote a very loosely structured song in like 20 minutes to a plain Youtube beat. I didn’t really like writing with specific A,B structure or anything like that at the time, it definitely works, I just wasn’t digging it. I was more into — what am I trying to say, what’s my intention, and now let’s make it a song.
I made a little demo in my room and sent it to Ben Oldland, and then that’s it. We jumped in, refined it and now it’s here!
How would you describe the single?
I would describe it as a bratty, sexy little song. I don’t know where the attitude came from—I am definitely not that rowdy most of the time—but I think it really works.
I mean, what can I say? I like feeling sexy, I like doing things..
But one of the reasons I really love this single is because it was the first song I wrote and recorded that really felt like it was going in the direction I wanted artistically— I felt my previous single was a bit absent, like I wasn’t really myself. But that’s the best part about creating music I guess, each time you look back it’s exciting to see that kind of growth. And I love get2going, it just gives me a lot of confidence. I hope it can make other people feel the same, like being sexual isn’t shameful or dirty—it’s fun and flirty, it’s a part of living.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?
I recorded this in 2021 with Ben Oldland—fantastic guy, and he produced it too. Got it mastered with Panorama Mixing & Mastering. I really love working with both of them, they understand the vision, and I’m never disappointed when I work with them.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
My friend recently showed me Teyana Taylor, and I’m absolutely loving them. ‘Issues/Hold On’ is definitely one of my favourite songs at the moment. But I really do love the classics, especially when I’m working. I love Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. God I love Billie Holiday.. But I’ll also forever love good funky music to put me in a good mood.. Tom Misch, Jacob Collier, all the goods!
What do you like to do away from music?
To be honest I’m never away! I’m on the bus listening to different albums to hear production styles, different vocals, different instrumentation, I really just can’t be away as weird as that is.
I do love the beach though. And eating out—that’s about it really.
What’s planned for 2022?
Finishing up the EP! Got some exciting details finalised the other day and it just fuels the fire you know? I love the whole process from writing the songs to every detail up until its out —and after!
But mainly, just the EP..
After it’s released I’ll start (hopefully) doing some live performances and getting into the swing of things, maybe a show here and there!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
I’m just a brunch kind of person. So any good cafe that has excellent coffee, and a good like eggs benedict or brekkie burger and I’m set man. I’m good — that’s all I need.
I am a homebody though, and just super anxious in general so I really do love just sitting in a watching a movie or something with take away food. Give me dumplings delivered to my door with ‘Howls Moving Castle’ on the TV and you won’t hear from me, I’m good.

The brainchild of John Ounpuu, who originally emerged on the Canadian indie rock scene in the mid-90’s with the Vancouver band Pluto – Earth From The Moon has created new songs that are an ode to self-discovery and the subtle-yet-profound moments of life. The result is an unpredictable, vulnerable and sincere collection of songs, built on strong lyricism and dynamic musicianship. Back in the dayOunpuu found himself signed to Mint Records (and then Virgin), getting nominated for a JUNO award, and heading out on lengthy tours that garnered both regional and national media attention. In 1999 the group disbanded and Ounpuu took his life in another direction. But there was always something about crafting songs that stayed in the back of his mind.
He flirted with the idea of returning to music many times over the years. But the thing that finally pushed him over the edge and back into the creative sphere was mortality. “I was coming up on my 50th birthday. It had been 20 years since I wrote a song that more than a few people heard. I thought: if not now, when? What am I waiting for?”

Melbourne’s iaki Vallejo has a silky smooth new serenade entitled “Donde está el amor”. A heartbreaking admonition of lost love for family, children and the planet. iaki’s serene voice and masterful performance gently mourn for lost ideals in a time of chaos. Her emotive Spanish vocals are lovingly complimented by a feature verse from RnB/Soul star thando. The dual language aspects of this track speak of a desire to bridge divides and bring the world’s people together. With a combination of African & Indigenous Colombian heritage as well as a passion for Melbourne’s multiculture and a history of cross cultural collaboration; iaki is all about bringing people together. You can tell that in her music as the rhythms, the lyrics and the collaborations are on a constant journey of exploration and conciliation.
To celebrate the release iaki will be performing a special on off show for Multicultural Arts Victoria on the evening of release (Tonight, Thursday 17th March) entitled “Tres Cantos”.
The concert will feature Iaki alongside Ethiopian-Australian singer and dancer Seble Girma plus a guest appearance from thando for the live premiere of “Donde está el amor”.

LIFELINE will provide tailored face to face and digital psychological first aid for affected communities including counselling, information resources for individuals, crisis helplines and Lifeline text. These services are being specifically created for these communities and for this situation.
Lifeline CEO Colin Seery said that the organisation’s staff and volunteers have been working on the ground tirelessly to support local people.
“Lifeline is at the very heart of the communities that have been hardest hit so we have a clear picture of just how devastating these floods have been for individuals and families.”
“The funds raised from the Secret Sounds initiatives will enable us to continue to extend and tailor Lifeline services and to help communities reach a point where they regain sustainability and resilience.”
GIVIT is a national donation platform managing donations of items, services and funds for people impacted by floods across parts of Queensland and New South Wales. GIVIT works directly with councils, outreach teams, charities and community groups in impacted areas to identify exactly what’s needed to make sure people get what they need, when they need it.
The local newspaper of the Bundjalung region, KOORI MAIL is wholly owned by five Bundjalung Aboriginal community organisations. These regions have been severely flood impacted and fundraising will directly support these communities.
The well-established Byron Community Centre has partnered with regional philanthropic body, NORTHERN RIVERS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, to support a community led flood recovery. Funds will be distributed to grass roots community organisations throughout the Northern Rivers Region, getting help to communities when and where they need it.
It is impossible to overstate the impact of the flooding that hit Northern NSW and Southeast QLD a fortnight ago. All previous records were smashed by metres. Roads and bridges were washed away. Schools were destroyed. Thousands of homes were inundated, with water levels in Lismore exceeding a previously unfathomable 14 metres. Residents climbed into ceiling cavities to escape the floodwaters or onto rooftops in hope of being rescued by civilians in tinnies.
Huge landslides moved houses down mountains in the hills behind Mullumbimby, and now scar the Northern NSW hinterland. Heroic community members trekked through the bush, across raging torrents and waist high mud to rescue the isolated and injured. They carried in generators, fuel, supplies, even a satellite dish and radios and they encountered scenes that no civilian volunteer should ever have to witness.
Further south in Woodburn and Coraki the floodwater has only just subsided and a massive clean-up effort is underway in that devastated region.
Thousands of homes are now uninhabitable. The families who lived in them are facing an uncertain future. Northern NSW was already facing a housing crisis and the situation is now critical. Many have also lost their businesses or income for the foreseeable future.
Whether directly affected by flooding or volunteering for rescue and clean up, this disaster has been traumatic for the entire community and has taken a huge emotional toll on everyone in its path.
You support, to help raise as much money as possible for devastated communities, is much appreciated!

The video for ‘Special Attention’ was originally going to be shot with MOSSY’s brother Ben again, but after losing a shoot location at the last-minute MOSSY says the idea kind of fell apart. “I knew I still wanted to direct something myself, something more lo-fi this time. Kate (Purient) woke up one morning with a location in mind—a dam she’d been to in Healesville. The clip was shot by Jordan Hourigan,” MOSSY explains. “Once we got to the location, we couldn’t believe that there was this gigantic compass / sundial looking thing which I think fits really well thematically with ‘Special Attention’. It kinda saved the day.”
Across 10 dynamic and introspective tracks, produced by Dean Tuza (The Rubens, Stella Donelly) and mixed by multi-Grammy winner Stu White (Beyonce, Megan Thee Stallion, FKA Twigs), N2KY continues to explore the sentiment of a partnership having the potential to either nourish and support, or constrict and threaten. In his embrace of electronic post-punk, pop fundamentals from the Scandinavian underground club scene, and the recent wave of emo trap artists, MOSSY captures the sensation of surrendering to a force – whether spiritual, sonic or both – and the comfort found in that.
‘Special Attention’ joins recent singles ‘Why Can’t You See?’ and ‘Unfazed’, which were both added to FBi and global hyperpop tastemaker playlists across Spotify, Apple, Amazon and SoundCloud, with the latter bringing in a dazzling re-work by Melbourne artist Banoffee. N2KY’s first single ‘Shade’ came with an energetic remix by 17-year-old Canadian Hyperpop artist kmoe that was added to global Spotify playlists creamy (696k followers), hyperpop, Friday Cratediggers, cellophane, and Apple Music’s Glitch, New In: Electronic, Future Sounds and Electronic Pop. Combined, the album’s singles have seen support from the likes of Matt Wilkinson and Zane Lowe, and firmly established MOSSY in the alternative pop world.
‘Special Attention’ is the final piece of the N2KY puzzle, which is out tomorrow and will be brought to life at MOSSY’s album launch party next month! Get your hands on tickets via eventbrite.com/.

Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising is teeming with yelps, yowls, screams, growls, whimpers, whispers, chants, deadpan delivery, laconic one-liners and elongated ‘ahs’ that sound like a demonic girls choir. The guitars are similarly liberatory, surging and spasming to new inventive heights. ‘Buoyancy‘ follows the feisty ‘Sex & Rage‘, lauded by Rolling Stone, Frankie, NME, Clash, DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, Double J and across community radio stations FBi Radio, RTR FM, SYN, 2SER, and others.
In the wake of back-to-back tours and releases, Sophie McComish, Annabel Blackman, Cecil Coleman, and Georgia Wilkinson-Derums regrouped in early 2020, to record their debut album eight days – shortly before they would become separated by the pandemic. Recorded and mastered by Jonathan Boulet, and entirely self-funded, the album is exultant, effusive, playful, cutting, and maybe most significantly, incandescent in its fury. Following their recent appearance alongside King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at the Enmore Theatre, you can experience Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising now as Body Type tour across so-called Australia. DMA’S kick off their first AU tour in three years in a fortnight & today reveal special guests
Sydney and Brisbane sold out; Fremantle show postponed
210+ million streams and counting; thousands of international arena tickets sold. A Top 10 UK chart debut with THE GLOW. Five x 2021 ARIA nominations. Just announced as a finalist in 2022’s Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition. The accolades for all conquering Sydney trio DMA’S keep on coming!
With their Sydney and Brisbane shows sold out and Melbourne and Adelaide not far behind, DMA’S will finally kick off their hotly anticipated Australian tour in just two weeks’ time… their first headline AU tour in three long years!
Announced earlier this week on the line-up to 2022’s Reading and Leeds, these will be DMA’S biggest Aussie shows to date, packed full of crowd favourites like ‘Delete’, ‘Silver’, ‘The End’, ‘Step Up The Morphine’ and more. It’s been a long wait for fans of the ‘Junk Truck Head’ trio, who’ve carved themselves an enviable career as one of Australia’s biggest selling live acts.
WA show update: Unfortunately, due to changes to density limits and restrictions regarding live music venues in WA, DMA’S show at Fremantle Arts Centre on Sunday 3 April is postponed. Fans should hold onto their tickets, as they’ll be valid for a new date (set to be revealed soon). Ticketholders will be sent information direct via ticketing agency Oztix, be sure to follow the Perth Facebook event for show updates.
Announced today and joining DMA’S on tour as special guests are:
Adelaide opener is SA’s Wedding Motel. Blending eerie-sad-disco with dystopian-folk motifs, Wedding Motel recently made their live debut supporting punkers Pist Idiots and draw from a wide range of influence: think “Martin Newell associated bands of the 70’s and 80’s (Stray Trolleys/Cleaners From Venus), Leonard Cohen’s Death of a Ladies Man and the sardonic mumblings of David Berman”. Kinked pop songs smothered in a hangover.
Sydney and Melbourne: Hayley Mary transitioned from frontwoman of The Jezabels to fully fledged solo artist in 2020, via killer singles such as ‘The Piss, The Perfume’, the anthemic ‘Like A Woman Should’, and triple j regular ‘Would You Throw A Diamond?’. Mary’s most recent release is her third solo EP, Fall In Love, co-recorded with DMA’S’ Johnny Took.
In Brisbane, DMA’S will be joined by special guest THE RIOT. The radical trio launched back in 2020 via their thunderous debut ‘Dog In The Shade’, which featured the talents of Matt Corby and Alex Henriksson. Unburdened by genre, THE RIOT are here to disrupt prescriptive notions of genre in a stale music ecosystem.
One thing is for certain: DMA’S put on one hell of a show. With remaining show tickets almost gone, grab them before they all go!

Where are you currently based?
South Yarra, Melbourne.
How did you first start playing music?
Started playing keyboard when I was 6. I just wanted to be able to play Kiss From a Rose and the theme song to Titanic.
What’s been happening recently?
It’s been a pretty busy couple of months directing/ editing videos with my brother for all the singles from my album.
Your debut album ‘N2KY’ will be out on March 18, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
It’s heavily influenced by Scandinavian sounds and textures—cloud rap, synth pop, nu-wave—artists like Bladee, Lust for Youth, First Hate. Lots of ambient textures, sequencers, icy synths, auto-tuned vocals.. that kinda thing.
How did you go about writing the music?
I wrote most of the original ideas on a shitty Casio Keyboard and an acoustic guitar (for the first time ever). Later in the studio with Dean Tuza (producer) we started fleshing out the ideas with different synths and programming beats on the 808 or 909. I’ve been getting my producing chops up the last couple of years so my new demos sound less… shit.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?
We did the whole album in Dean’s studio in South Yarra, Melbourne. South-side represent. The album was mixed in LA by my dear friend Stuart White (Beyoncé, Jay-Z) and mastered by John Davis at Metropolis.
How did you approach the recording process?
Because the songs for this album were so raw to begin with, Dean and I referenced a lot of artists that we love, and started working out how to dress these songs properly. Some songs completely transformed. We were very thorough.
What does this album mean to you?
I didn’t really know until I finished. N2KY stands for Nice 2 Know Ya. It’s basically an album about rejecting enmeshment and dependence on others. It’s a record about craving freedom, whatever that means.
What do you like to do away from music?
I’m very interested in mental health. I read a lot of books on that. Dependence on substances and the many different approaches to dealing with that interests me as well, having had my own struggles at times. I love boxing cos it keeps me fit and focused. Big Formula 1 fan too. I also play Fortnite every day, and I love being around my friends.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Bladee, Lust For Youth, First Hate, Iceage, Ecco2k, HTRK, Acopia.
What’s planned for 2022?
I’ve got a second album shaping up nicely, so hopefully I can get that finished!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
It’s definitely a Melbourne hot spot atm, but I can’t go past Hope St Radio. Wine is great, food is incredible, and it’s an environment that really promotes socialising—I love it, sue me.
