BODY TYPE SHARE NEW PREVIEW TO DEBUT LP VIA ‘BUOYANCY’ EVERYTHING IS DANGEROUS BUT NOTHING’S SURPRISING LP OUT MAY 20 VIA POISON CITY RECORDS

PRAISE FOR BODY TYPE

“One of the most consistently impressive, powerful, and exciting bands on the Australian scene”
Rolling Stone

“Sex & Rage [is] a blistering, sharp-toothed cut that oscillates between angular,
incendiary post-punk and the kaleidoscopic indie-pop of the band’s earlier catalogue”

NME

“Sex & Rage crushes hard”
Clash

“Chock-full of angsty lyrics and post-punk riffs”
Frankie Magazine

“Refreshingly exciting and ridiculously good fun”
The Line of Best Fit

“It’s impossible not to fall head over heels for them”
DIY

“All-female outfit spark a new era with indie-rock-punk euphoria”
Pilerats

“Explosive”
Lock Mag

Body Type, the all-female rock group, today share the latest cut from their debut album Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising, through the endearingly peculiar ‘Buoyancy‘. LISTEN + WATCH HERE.

Spawned from a text exchange poem between Annabel Blackman to Georgia Wilkinson-Derums, ‘Buoyancy‘ is all impulse and energy, a fast-paced jam itching with spontaneity. Written in the midst of a heatwave, Georgia reveals “Buoyancy started as a playful text message exchange between Annabel and me. In many ways, the song is about grappling with internal inconsistencies and moral ambiguities in an incoherent style. It’s had a few iterations – when I brought it to the group it had more of a slow Big Star spirit. Soph and Annabel made it more angular, more tongue in cheek with the guitar, which further injects the song with distorted meaning. It’s also a personal reminder that when certain things are rendered uncertain those you love are an eternal rudder.”

It’s a bizarre tale of sand piles, burning spines and floatation devices, indicative of Body Type‘s regenerated live show spirit, rife across Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprsing. The band’s debut is a vivacious, confident romp, as speedy in pace as it is leisurely, intimately coy and entirely Body Type. While Sophie, Annabel and Georgia again share singing duties throughout, as with their previous releases, they’ve never sounded so gleefully unmoored.

Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising is teeming with yelps, yowls, screams, growls, whimpers, whispers, chants, deadpan delivery, laconic one-liners and elongated ‘ahs’ that sound like a demonic girls choir. The guitars are similarly liberatory, surging and spasming to new inventive heights. ‘Buoyancy‘ follows the feisty ‘Sex & Rage‘, lauded by Rolling Stone, Frankie, NME, Clash, DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, Double J and across community radio stations FBi Radio, RTR FM, SYN, 2SER, and others.

In the wake of back-to-back tours and releases, Sophie McComish, Annabel Blackman, Cecil Coleman, and Georgia Wilkinson-Derums regrouped in early 2020, to record their debut album eight days – shortly before they would become separated by the pandemic. Recorded and mastered by Jonathan Boulet, and entirely self-funded, the album is exultant, effusive, playful, cutting, and maybe most significantly, incandescent in its fury. Following their recent appearance alongside King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at the Enmore Theatre, you can experience Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising now as Body Type tour across so-called Australia. Tickets are on sale now, see all tour dates + purchase info BELOW.

DMA’s Australian headline tour kicks off this month + special guests announced

by the partae March 17, 2022
written by the partae

Final tickets on sale now!

DMA’S kick off their first AU tour in three years in a fortnight & today reveal special guests

Sydney and Brisbane sold out; Fremantle show postponed

210+ million streams and counting; thousands of international arena tickets sold. A Top 10 UK chart debut with THE GLOW. Five x 2021 ARIA nominations. Just announced as a finalist in 2022’s Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition. The accolades for all conquering Sydney trio DMA’S keep on coming!

With their Sydney and Brisbane shows sold out and Melbourne and Adelaide not far behind, DMA’S will finally kick off their hotly anticipated Australian tour in just two weeks’ time… their first headline AU tour in three long years!

Announced earlier this week on the line-up to 2022’s Reading and Leeds, these will be DMA’S biggest Aussie shows to date, packed full of crowd favourites like ‘Delete’, ‘Silver’, ‘The End’, ‘Step Up The Morphine’ and more. It’s been a long wait for fans of the ‘Junk Truck Head’ trio, who’ve carved themselves an enviable career as one of Australia’s biggest selling live acts.

WA show update: Unfortunately, due to changes to density limits and restrictions regarding live music venues in WA, DMA’S show at Fremantle Arts Centre on Sunday 3 April is postponed. Fans should hold onto their tickets, as they’ll be valid for a new date (set to be revealed soon). Ticketholders will be sent information direct via ticketing agency Oztix, be sure to follow the Perth Facebook event for show updates.

Announced today and joining DMA’S on tour as special guests are:

Adelaide opener is SA’s Wedding Motel. Blending eerie-sad-disco with dystopian-folk motifs, Wedding Motel recently made their live debut supporting punkers Pist Idiots and draw from a wide range of influence: think “Martin Newell associated bands of the 70’s and 80’s (Stray Trolleys/Cleaners From Venus), Leonard Cohen’s Death of a Ladies Man and the sardonic mumblings of David Berman”. Kinked pop songs smothered in a hangover.

Sydney and Melbourne: Hayley Mary transitioned from frontwoman of The Jezabels to fully fledged solo artist in 2020, via killer singles such as ‘The Piss, The Perfume’, the anthemic ‘Like A Woman Should’, and triple j regular ‘Would You Throw A Diamond?’. Mary’s most recent release is her third solo EP, Fall In Love, co-recorded with DMA’S’ Johnny Took.

In Brisbane, DMA’S will be joined by special guest THE RIOT. The radical trio launched back in 2020 via their thunderous debut ‘Dog In The Shade’, which featured the talents of Matt Corby and Alex Henriksson. Unburdened by genre, THE RIOT are here to disrupt prescriptive notions of genre in a stale music ecosystem.

One thing is for certain: DMA’S put on one hell of a show. With remaining show tickets almost gone, grab them before they all go!

JUST ANNOUNCED: Peking Duk’s Keli Holiday to headline inclusive and accessible gig Groove Tunes this weekend at The Corner!

by the partae March 16, 2022
written by the partae

The most anticipated accessible gig on the local calendar, Groove Tunes just got a whole lot tastier with the arrival of new headliner, Keli Holiday of Peking Duk. Announced last month and taking place this Saturday 19 March at coveted Richmond venue The Corner, Groove Tunes will present a fun and accessible night of entertainment, highlighting the creativity and inclusivity of the disability community, while also creating awareness to excel standards of accessibility in the music industry and beyond. Accessibility consultancy, Tibi Access—the incredible team of disability advocates behind the Groove Tunes project—are beyond excited to welcome Keli Holiday and his shimmering, ethereal and uplifting dance music to the fold in what is sure to be a night to remember.

From the mind of a man living off of nothing but New Order records, beer, sleepless nights and the sheer excitement and love of exploring an unknown city named New York, Keli Holiday is the solo project of Adam Hyde (one half of multi ARIA award winning, 10x platinum selling Australian eclectic electronic duo Peking Duk). In the wake of Peking Duk’s non-stop, two month North American tour, Hyde was told he had time for a holiday when he got home but instead of flying to a beach somewhere he decided to use an old guitar he had sitting in his bedroom to create something special. He sheepishly showed his best friend Thomas Stell aka Golden Features the 12 tracks he’d penned in four weeks, before Tom shared the project with Adam’s longtime idol that he’d never met—KIM from the iconic duo The Presets. KIM and Adam soon tightened up the dusty recordings and made it shine. Two years later and the marriage of longing for that holiday he’ll never get back mixed with the strumming of that dusty old guitar birthed the love child that is Keli Holiday.

Keli Holiday joins previously announced acts Matilda Pearl, Saint Ergo, Edward Roussac and Irene Zhong, rounding out an absolutely killer bill of local acts with more than half the lineup made up of artists living with disability. Tibi Access’ mission to bring the joy of live music to the disability community, while also increasing awareness of the need for events and venues to be more accessible is the driving force behind this weekend’s Groove Tunes event. Through a survey Tibi conducted in 2018, people living with a disability expressed their love of attending live music events, however the fear and lack of access stopped them from going. As an accessible gig, Groove Tunes will provide support services such as Auslan interpreters, printed braille tickets, in-venue access ramps and lowered bar access, accessible signage, a sensory zone and sensory packs, on-stage lyric videos, as well develop an accessible website and keep ticket prices low for the music industry and disability community alike—allowing access to people of all abilities to not only attend, but have a fun, safe and memorable experience.

Do not miss your chance to catch Keli Holiday in his first live show of the year at one of Melbourne’s most cherished accessible venues alongside some favourite artists you haven’t yet discovered at Groove Tunes this Saturday night. Final release tickets moving quick sticks, with free entry for companion card holders. Can’t make it on Saturday? Support Groove Tunes and your fellow gig-goers by purchasing a Pay It Forward ticket for someone in the disability community!

KING STINGRAY DROP BRAND NEW SINGLE ‘CAMP DOG’

by the partae March 15, 2022
written by the partae

Still buzzing from a run of sold out headline shows, King Stingray are determined to keep the vibes high with a brand new single, Camp Dog.

The band’s fourth single is an endearing tribute to the cheeky canines that patrol the streets of Yirrkala, the town in North East Arnhem Land that King Stingray grew up in.

LISTEN TO ‘CAMP DOG’ HERE

“The community camp dogs act like the boss of the streets” explains guitarist Roy Kellaway. “Kids often have to walk the long way home to avoid them. But it’s not about fear. It’s about our adoration of the character and personality of the community dogs and their funny traits. Flea-ridden, cane toad-lickin’, fish carcass-eating camp dogs. We love them, and this is a story of our life with them.”

Camp Dog follows on from bona fide hits Milkumana and Get Me Out which both made their way into triple j’s Hottest 100 at number 56 and 46 respectively.

Maintaining their mammoth momentum, King Stingray have been hand-picked to support Midnight Oil in Sydney and Cairns, and invited to join several dates on the massive Ball Park Music tour throughout June and July. Expect incredible performances at Yours & Owls, Strawberry Fields, Parrtjima and Splendour In The Grass, too.

With the band now pulling into international focus via their nomination for NME’s Best New Band In The World, 2022 truly is shaping up to be the Year of King Stingray!

About King Stingray:

King Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship and two cultures coming together. Growing up together in Yirrkala in North-East Arnhem Land, founding members Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu (frontman) and Roy Kellaway (guitar) have been playing and making music together for as long as they can remember.

Yirrŋa and Roy formed King Stingray with mates Dimathaya Burarrwanga (rhythm guitar backing vocals and yidaki), Campbell Messer (bass) and Lewis Stiles (drums). The band seamlessly blend ancient indigenous melodies with surf, indie and funk influences to create a unique sound of their own: Yolŋu surf-rock.

Propelled by the instant success of their debut track “Hey Wanhaka” in October 2020, accidental lockdown anthem “Get Me Out”, and groove-laden dance jam “Milkumana”, the band have soared to unexpected heights.

Hailed as “one of the most exciting acts in the country today” (NME), the band have taken out triple j’s ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year‘ J Award for 2021, as well as NME Australia’s ‘Best New Australian Artist‘ Award. They’re currently nominated for Rolling Stone Australia’s ‘Best New Act‘ and NME’s ‘Best New Act In The World‘.

The band spent 2021 navigating COVID-19 restrictions to wow crowds along the eastern states, completely selling out their first ever tour in March/April and gaining new fans at Dark Mofo, Splendour in the Grass XR, Boogie, Party In The Apocalypse, Beyond The City and more.

Tickets on sale to general public at 9am, Friday 18 March
Australia’s favourite Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy is heading back to our shores in May 2022 with all his fan’s favourite tracks plus some new music in tow!

Originally planning to tour Down Under back in May 2020, his sold out run of shows had to be postponed when international borders closed.  But now we’re back in business, Kennedy will be visiting most of the original tour locations – Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney – plus upgrading some venues and adding a show in Melbourne to allow more fans to get in on the craic!

“Australia, it brings me so much joy to finally announce our rescheduled tour dates for this May! This has been a long time coming and I couldn’t be more excited to be coming back to this beautiful land. All previously purchased tickets remain valid – thank you so much to everyone who held onto theirs throughout the last two years. I can only promise you this will be incredibly special. Sadly, we were unable to reschedule the Perth shows due to current COVID restrictions, but we’ve added a new show in Melbourne on 19 May which will be going on sale this Friday at 9am local time. I can’t wait!” said Dermot Kennedy.
Dermot Kennedy has come a long way from busking on the streets of Dublin, with 23 million Spotify listeners and over 2.5 billion total streams, he has the best-selling debut album in his native Ireland of this millennium.

Without Fear, Dermot’s impassioned debut hit #1 on the UK chart and sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide, making him a platinum-selling artist in over 12 countries.  His singles, “Outnumbered”, the Meduza collaboration “Paradise,” and “Power Over Me” were all certified Gold, with “Paradise” streaming over 500 million times.

Earlier in 2022 Dermot released a galvanizing version of his most recent single, “Better Days” featuring GRAMMY-nominated duo EARTHGANG. The dynamic collaboration saw Kennedy seamlessly marrying his love of hip-hop with his signature brand of authentic folk-laced pop, resulting in a powerful reimagining of the popular track.

Chris Cheney Announces Debut Solo Album ‘The Storm Before The Calm’

by the partae March 11, 2022
written by the partae
THE LIVING END FRONTMAN WILL RELEASE HIS DEBUT SOLO ALBUM ON 17 JUNE
THE LEAD SINGLE ‘CALIFORNIA’ IS OUT NOW, ALONG WITH A VIDEO
DIRECTED BY NICK MCKINLAY
The Living End frontman and guitarist Chris Cheney launches his debut solo project with the release of ‘California’, a love letter to the city of Los Angeles. ‘California’ is the first taste of his forthcoming album The Storm Before The Calm, due out June 17.

Written in his Melbourne garage during the world’s longest lockdown, ‘California’ is an ode to a place that Cheney called home for nine years, before the pandemic thrust him and his family back home to Melbourne.

“Australia will always be home. We do have the best of everything here,” Cheney says, “but I loved the time I spent in LA and I found it a very inspiring place to be a musician. I had some really amazing experiences where I got to work with and play music alongside some incredible people. LA is just such a buzzing town.”

Stripping back some of the distortion and overdrive we’ve come to expect from The Living End, on ‘California’ Cheney instead evokes a sound somewhere between vintage Tom Petty and The Beach Boys’ ‘California Girls’, letting his voice and lyrics take centre stage, while still managing to sneak a duelling guitar solo in for good measure.

After nine albums and countless incendiary shows across Australia and the globe with his band The Living End, The Storm Before The Calm sees Cheney stepping out on his own for the first time. The album captures him in his songwriting prime, showing a deeper side to the guitar slinging, rock n roll wild man – one that we’ve never seen.

Written and recorded across sessions in Nashville, LA and in his Melbourne garage, The Storm Before The Calm offers an incredibly personal look at the singer-songwriter, as he details his struggles through a personal breakdown, substance abuse, the loss of his father, and the near dissolution of his marriage.

All this is set to a soundtrack more varied than anything Cheney has written before – there’s the new wave power pop on ‘California’, Otis Redding-style, 60s soul on ‘Lost In The Darkness’, gentle balladry on ‘Football Team’, brooding swampiness on ‘Exile’ and of course some southern style barroom boogie thrown in for good measure on ‘Little White Pills’.

“It’s not been an easy road and I’ve wanted to throw the towel in many times, but I knew if I could just finish this album, then I’d have created something special,” Cheney says. “That’s why it feels like a personal triumph for me, not just because I got it finished, and not just because it’s a different album to anything I’ve ever done; but because I think It’s the best album I’ve ever done.”

JACK DANIEL’S LIVE AT LAST TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT

written by the partae
LIVE AT LAST TOUR – APRIL 2022
SUNSHINE COAST | SYDNEY | BRISBANE | MELBOURNE
Featuring POND, San Cisco, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Ruby Fields
Tickets on sale now!

After a successful run of dates last year, Jack Daniel’s and Secret Sounds are back with a fresh LIVE AT LAST tour, celebrating and supporting the comeback of Australian live music.

Jack Daniel’s is backing the music industry with an all-star lineup of Aussie artists, performing gigs at some of Australia’s most beloved venues on the Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne throughout April 2022.

The Jack Daniel’s LIVE AT LAST Tour will give back to artists, venues and music lovers all around Australia, with 100% of ticket sales raising funds for Support Act.

Kicking off the tour, Perth psych rockers POND and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are set to hit the Sunshine Coast and Sydney respectively. Indie pop faves San Cisco are heading to Brisbane’s famed Fortitude Music Hall and singer songwriter Ruby Fields will take to the stage in Melbourne.

Irrepressible five-piece POND’s ever-growing catalogue includes nine studio albums. On their latest release, 9 the Fremantle band fly closer than ever before to the creative supernova that has blazed across so much of their music. With an ever-expanding live resumé, POND have toured with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, MGMT and Flaming Lips. They’ve stunned crowds at festivals around the world including Glastonbury, Coachella, Primavera, Laneway, Splendour in the Grass and more, and they’ve sold out countless venues around the globe from New York’s Bowery Ballroom to Paris’ La Gaite Lyrique and London’s O2 Forum. Now fans will have a unique opportunity to see POND play at SolBar, Sunshine Coast for Jack Daniel’s LIVE AT LAST!

Formed in 2014, experimental Perth quintet Psychedelic Porn Crumpets quickly became one of Australia’s hottest prospects. Debut album High Visceral {Part 1} set the bar high from the start and was followed up by {Part 2}, their landmark release And Now for the Whatchamacallit in 2019 and fourth LP Shyga! The Sunlight Mound in 2021. They’ve raked up millions of streams, sold out tours both at home and abroad and ignited festival stages with uncompromising orchestra of noise and they’re ready to bring it to Sydney for Jack Daniel’s LIVE AT LAST!

Set to an upbeat indie-pop groove on the cusp of innocence and heartbreak, this is where three-piece group San Cisco lives. Throughout their illustrious ten year career, the Fremantle natives have become one of Australia’s most successful independent acts amassing multiple accolades, millions of streams and critical acclaim through the release of four studio albums. They have toured the world selling out headline shows and appearing at festivals such as Splendour in the Grass, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds and many more. They’ll be heading to Brisbane this April for Jack Daniel’s LIVE AT LAST!

Hailing from the suburbs of Sydney’s South Coast, singer songwriter Ruby Fields’ combination of poignant lyrics with indie rock chords with punk rock delicacy and delivery, has been capturing attention since 2017. She’s sold out multiple national tours, toured the UK and performed a coveted Like A Version for triple j. More recently, her debut album Been Doin’ It For A Bit debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album charts to beat out the likes of Drake and Lil Nas X. Fans all over the world over have obsessed over her relatable lyrics. Get ready to sing along when Ruby Fields plays The Espy in Melbourne for Jack Daniel’s LIVE AT LAST.

“Jack Daniel’s has a long history in music and has always been part of the moments that count; on stage and in the crowd, with artists and their fans. It’s important for us to continue to create these moments and to support the live music and on-premise community. We are thrilled to be announcing these shows and to be donating the total ticket sales to Support Act so that they can continue the amazing work that they have been doing in the industry.” Dimitra Tassopoulos, Senior Brand Manager, Jack Daniel’s.

Tickets for all shows are just $10 + booking fee with all proceeds to be donated to Support Act.

Support Act is the music industry’s charity, delivering crisis relief services to musicians, managers, crew and music workers across all genres who are unable to work due to ill health, injury, a mental health problem or some other crisis, such as COVID-19.

Jack Botts Returns With ‘Mine, Mine, Mine’ Single

by the partae March 11, 2022
written by the partae

Known for his coastal folk sonic goodness, touring prestige and a laid back approach to life in his van, the name Jack Botts is rapidly cementing itself on the Australian conscious. Returning with his first taste of new music for 2022 with the adventurous and stick-in-your-head offering ‘Mine, Mine, Mine‘ today, Jack continues his quietly confident pursuit of the music world.

Unravelling his long-distance relationship throughout Covid, ‘Mine, Mine, Mine’ is lyrically cheeky and leans on a bluesy, groovy rhythm throughout. On the single, Jack shares:

“I’ve always wanted to write a track like ‘Mine, Mine, Mine’. It’s a little different to the genres and style of music I’d usually write, but it was a super fun one to bring to life. More of a ‘cheeky’ kind of approach to a story in terms of the writing, but musically, it was super cool to bring in a bit of a bluesy aspect and groove to front. It’s been really fun to try out and play live whilst on tour, and I’m super excited for it to be released!”

About Jack Botts:
In just a handful of years on the scene, Jack Botts has gone from chippy-turned-busker-into full time touring musician and one of the fastest growing artists in the country on all fronts.Currently completing a mammoth 40-date Australia tour – which boats over 7,000 tickets sold, a sold out night at Melbourne’s prestigious Corner Hotel and 3,000 punters in Victoria alone – he continues his worldwide pursuit with his debut international tour kicking off this month. After a small break, Jack will head on a 22-stop run throughout Europe and the UK.

Elsewhere on the touring front, Jack recently appeared at NYE On The Hill and Ocean Sounds festivals and has just been announced on the Boardmasters (UK) stage, propped up on a huge bill including the likes of Kings Of Leon, Disclosure, The Wombats.

In June 2021, Jack released his stunning six-track Slow Mornings EP, which has gone on to clock a whopping 5 Million streams and draw press attention from the likes of Rolling Stone Australia, The AU Review, Pilerats, Like Velvet and more. Its singles including ‘18th Floor’ and ’Slow Mornings’ have each enjoyed long-standing rotation on triple j Unearthed and additions to high-level playlists including Chilled Afternoon, Summer Waves, Slow Dancing in the Living Room, Coast to Coast, Coastal Folk and Acoustic Chill.

On the back of Slow Mornings, Jack released his live record Live At Miami Marketta, spanning 6 tracks recorded live from the Gold Coast’s Miami Marketta (a personal favourite venue of the Brisbane-native) alongside a never-before-released fan favourite called ‘Ooh La La’.

LATE NIGHT THERAPY UNVEILS ENTRANCING DEBUT SINGLE ‘BACKSEAT HEARTBEAT’

by the partae March 11, 2022
written by the partae

SUPPORT FOR ‘BACKSEAT HEARTBEAT’

“A smooth funky slice of sunshine that canters along at a high-stepping trot, tempered with an enthralling air of melancholy in the vocals.”
Backseat Mafia (UK)

Yamba-based artist Late Night Therapy has just revealed their enthralling debut single ‘Backseat Heartbeat’ – self-recorded/produced by the artist himself and co-mixed with Luke Million.

Beginning with adroit electronics and warm synthesisers, ‘Backseat Heartbeat’ is four minutes of heterogenous production, layered with motifs that float effortlessly through carefully crafted soundscapes. Strident guitars compliment the polyphonic sonority, while the graceful vocals guide the resonant melody above the mix, judiciously navigating the song’s memorable structure.

Late Night Therapy talks about the meaning behind ‘Backseat Heartbeat’:

“This release and the many tracks to follow come after a long journey of self-doubt that has left me with a huge backlog of music waiting for a chance to see the light of day. A problem with my hearing forced me to take an extended break from music. It took this break for me to gain the perspective needed to once again believe in my art.”

Late Night Therapy is the new musical project from Harry Suttor. Taking cues from influences such as Tame Impala, Daft Punk and RÜFÜS DU SOL, his combination of live instrumentation and the unbounded potentials of electronic production to create an organic, evolving sound that reflects the fundamentals of his song subjects. “The process of creating music late at night when there are no distractions, it’s quiet, dark and I can completely immerse myself in it has always been therapy for my state of mind. This is where the name ‘Late Night Therapy’ came from. Music is my outlet, it keeps me in the moment and leaves me fulfilled.”

In the coming weeks, Late Night Therapy will reveal an accompanying music video for ‘Backseat Heartbeat’.

‘Backseat Heartbeat’ is available worldwide now

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis live at Hanging Rock (VIC) | Fri 25 & Sat 26 Nov 2022

by the partae March 9, 2022
written by the partae

‘…the raw power of the material and visceral intensity of the performance was – at times – breathtaking’ – The Telegraph (UK)

‘…a show like no other from a true once-in-a-generation song writing partnership’ – NME

CARNAGE is out now – listen here

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis today announce two shows at the iconic Hanging Rock in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, performing on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 November. These limited capacity seated shows are presented by Always Live, Frontier Touring and Supersonic, and will be the first dates on their upcoming Australian Carnage Tour.

The VIC show news comes off the back of Cave & Ellis’ acclaimed 2021 album CARNAGE, as well as a run of phenomenal performances across the UK and Europe, and a current North American tour. Tickets are on sale Thursday 17 March (12pm local time) via frontiertouring.com/nickcavewarrenellis, with Frontier Members pre-sale on Tuesday 15 March (see website for full info).

Cave has already announced, via The Red Hand Files, that the full Australian Carnage Tour will run from mid-November to mid-December. Details on those shows will be announced soon. (**Media: please see contact below for any full tour enquiries.)

Also just announced, Andrew Dominik’s film This Much I Know To Be True featuring Nick Cave & Warren Ellis will be in cinemas worldwide on Wednesday 11 May, following its critically acclaimed world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.

While Cave & Ellis have composed and recorded many soundtracks together, and Ellis is a long-term member of The Bad Seeds, CARNAGE is the first album of songs the pair have released.

Cave & Ellis’ creative chemistry is rooted in their long history of music making, both as collaborators and as individual artists. They first crossed paths in 1993, when Ellis played violin on several songs for the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album, Let Love In, before going on to join the band as a full-time member. The two have also recorded as Grinderman, formed in 2006, and have composed and recorded numerous, film, TV and theatre soundtracks together.

Joining Nick and Warren at both shows is Courtney Barnett. In the hands of Courtney Barnett, fragments of everyday life become rich and riveting. A deft lyricist and virtuosic guitarist, she is an emblem of millennial wit and one of Australia’s most successful musical exports. Barnett is also a powerhouse live act, playing slots at festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Governor’s Ball, Primavera, and Lollapalooza. In 2021, she released album Things Take Time, Take Time.

The shows are part of the ALWAYS LIVE program, a new state-wide celebration of contemporary live music supported by the Victorian Government through Visit Victoria. Ticketholders can also access further information regarding Hanging Rock travel, accommodation and other FAQ’s at www.hangingrockconcerts.com.

‘…an unexpected and powerful collection of songs from Cave and his long-term musical partner Warren Ellis…’ – The Age

‘Working together in a shared state of intuition, the two have never sounded quite so unfettered by expectation – either theirs or ours.’ – The Australian

Foo Fighters second + Final Melbourne show added due to overwhelming demand

by the partae March 9, 2022
written by the partae

‘As the lights dimmed and the crowd roared, the Foo Fighters appeared before us, feeling like a sight for sore eyes in the wake of empty stages and cancelled tours. Frontman Dave Grohl walked around the stage, simply staring back at the crowd as we all wordlessly exchanged the sentiment that it had been far too long for such an event’ – Rolling Stone AU

Following incredible demand during pre-sale, a second and final Foo Fighters concert at AAMI Park has been added for Tuesday 6 December 2022.

Tickets for the original AAMI Park date on December 4 and the new show on December 6 will be available from 2pm local time this Thursday 10 March.

Pre-sale tickets for the original Melbourne date were exhausted in less than an hour, confirming once again Australia’s unadulterated love of Foo Fighters.

Just last Friday, Foo Fighters performed to an adoring crowd of 30,000 in Geelong, VIC as part of ALWAYS LIVE, with reviews unanimously declaring the show a triumph.

‘…it’s hard not to feel like we’ve just witnessed an historical event.  Mother Nature may have brought the rain but the Foos came in even harder with their thunder.’ – NME

‘…a drought of stadium gigs was broken in the most emphatic fashion by Grohl and his band Foo Fighters, who turned in a superlative performance that will set the bar high for all other international acts to follow.’  – The Australian

Special guests for the December 6 show will be The Chats and Teenage Joans.

Sunshine Coast (QLD) ‘Smoko’ trio The Chats (Melbourne, Perth, Sydney + Brisbane) are one of Australia’s most exciting – and most fun – punk rock bands, with their notorious single going viral immediately upon release. They’ve toured with heavyweights Queens Of The Stone Age and Cosmic Psychos, selling out shows in AU, New Zealand, England, Scotland, and Europe.

After taking out the triple j unearthed high crown in 2020, Adelaide two-piece Teenage Joans (Perth + Melbourne) have gone from strength to strength, sharing stages with acts such as Violent Soho, Ruby Fields, Clowns, Amy Shark and more.

These will be the biggest rock shows of 2022. Act quickly to secure your tickets… dates will sell out, don’t miss out!

Tickets to all cities will go on sale Thursday 10 March via frontiertouring.com/foofighters (times staggered; see website for more info).

Foo Fighters are Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Rami Jaffee.

SOMETHING FOR KATE 08/03/22 The Forum

by the partae March 9, 2022
written by the partae

Photography & Review: Lucas Packett @lucas.packett.photography

It’s been four years since Something For Kate have done a national headline tour, so tonight’s Echolalia x The Modern Medieval is not before time.

The first of four sold out shows at Melbourne’s iconic Forum Theatre, sees the band embark on a national headline tour of theatres across the country. Albeit this tour was scheduled for last year sometime, it has fallen victim to the perpetual (it seems) rescheduling that so many artists have been inflicted with. The past behind, it’s a new start to gigs and tonight’s show is no exception.

With no support act to warm the crowd , Something For Kate promptly graced the large Forum stage to embark on the first of two sets. The first set being the Echolalia album played in full. I don’t recall SFK having done this before (I could be wrong), so this was a treat. Playing all tracks from start to finish on the albums 20th (or now 21st) anniversary, and while being the fashion at present to perform anniversaries, this one was exceptional.

The second set consisted of predominantly new tunes from 2020’s The Modern Medieval along with a smattering of tracks from Desert Lights, Leave Your Soul To Science and The Official Fiction. Tracks from the new album sounded fresh, but with that SFK formula that works so well, including – All The Great Minds, Supercomputer and Situation Room, however Blue Bird was a notable omission.

As always SFK included a cover, this time Bowie’s Heroes and culminating with the punter favourite, Captain (Million Miles an Hour) lifted from Elsewhere For 8 Minutes.

So good to see a band with this level of longevity still producing great music, performed in a great room to multiple sell out crowds – long may you run.
