What's your name and role within the band? My names Ben and I’m the bass player for Ava Kaydo. I also played drums for the recording of our debut single ‘Lucid’.   Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there? We are currently based in Yeppoon/Rockhampton of Central Queensland. The music scene in this area is fairly lacking, with only a few original bands out and about. Being a rural area, cover bands are much more prominent.   What's been happening recently? Well we’ve just released our first ever single which feels so relieving. We’ve been holding onto this one for a few years now, and after recording it we could finally show everyone what we’ve been working on.    Your first single 'Lucid' has just been released, what influenced the sound and songwriting? The sound itself was just naturally inspired by our influences I suppose. At the time we had Ocean Alley’s album ‘Chiaroscuro’ on heavy rotation, and we were also taking notes from DMA’s newest material. But the song was pure improv and wasn’t really methodically written.  How did you go about writing Lucid? The process for writing ‘Lucid’ was very natural and spontaneous. It was one of those songs that came out of thin air. Sparked by an overwhelming moment of creativity, Jeremy our guitarist just started playing the main riff of the song and we just all started joining in. Within a matter of minutes the meat of the song was there and we we’re stoked with it. Maddy, our singer, layered her spacey vocals over the top and that was that.  The lyrics we’re written after Maddy had a bad sleep paralysis experience. Using the concept of ‘Lucid’ dreaming, Maddy used the words to turn the song into a positive retelling of what happened. A sort of therapy I suppose.  Where and when did you record/produce and who with? We recorded the track on October of 2019 in Brisbane. We worked with Paradox Audio Productions; a studio based out of our friend’s house. Blake and Rob really worked well with us and understood our vision. It really opened our eyes to how fun the recording process can be.    What programs/instruments did you use? We used guitar, bass, drums and vocals. And for programs we used the ol’ trusty pro tools.      Being from a rural area 'Yeppoon' what challenges do you face as a band? It’s hard to make connections with the industry, and we often need to travel to record and play gigs. It’s why we believe there needs to be more attention given to original live music in rural communities in towns such as Yeppoon. The live music community in our area has definitely improved over the last couple of years. However, the biggest challenge is definitely the isolation from the music industry.  What do you like to do away from music? If we aren’t playing music, we are usually listening to it over a couple of margaritas.    Who are you listening to at the moment? We are massive DMA’s fans and they are always playing when we are hanging out together. I myself have been obsessed with Pond’s ‘Hobo Rocket’ album recently. I’m also loving local Brisbane band Sunbather’s debut song ‘Softly Spoken’. It’s been on repeat for the last few days.    What's planned for 2020? 2020 is the year we get our shit together. With our first single out, we’re looking towards an EP in the near future. So, keep an eye out for new music.   Favourite food and place to hangout? We have a cheeky obsession with KFC. When we have a break from band practise it is usually our ritual to get ‘The Colonel’ for lunch. Favourite place to hang out is the beach.

NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS SHARE TITLE TRACK FROM NEW EP ‘BLUE MOON RISING’

by the partae February 4, 2020
written by the partae

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have today released brand new single “Blue Moon Rising“, the title track from the forthcoming EP of the same name, due March 6 via Sour Mash / Caroline Australia. Noel says of the single: “How it manages to combine the influences of Metallica, The Jesters Of Malice, Mantovani, Robinson Crusoe as well as Bob Marley AND The Wailers is literally beyond me… oh, and it’s not about City by the way.”

An accompanying video for the dance-inspired track is also out today starring acclaimed actor Jack O’Connell and actress/model Gala Gordon. Shot at London’s Scala and directed by Dan Cadan and Scully, the narrative is a game of power play, charged with drama, 70’s undertones and cinematic flare. Dan and Scully also directed previous videos for this recent series of EP releases by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Blue Moon Rising is the third in a string of EP’s from Noel in the past 8 months. Black Star Dancing was released mid-last year and followed by This Is The Place in September. ‘Blue Moon Rising’ features new songs including recent single ‘Wandering Star’, as well as remixes of the title track and is available digitally and on limited edition vinyl formats.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds recently toured Australia and New Zealand with U2 to widespread praise, supporting the band their acclaimed Joshua Tree Tour.

Joris Voorn’s fourth studio album ‘\\\\’ has gained much praise since its release in November thanks to its expansive melodies and mixture of dancefloor grooves and more contemplative moments. Featuring collaborations with the likes of Underworld and HÆLOS, it marked another exciting chapter in the Dutch star’s discography.    2020 will see the emergence of a series of red hot remixes of the album, with the first remix pack featuring a brilliant rework by Colyn. On February 14, the second part of this remix pack will be completed by Yotto's version of 'Anitgone'.    The delicate broken beat melodics of album opener ‘Never’ get a more dancefloor-friendly version from rising Amsterdam star and Afterlife signing, Colyn. Creating a more introspective mood with his atmospheric 4/4 melodic techno touch, he retains the innocent, sorrow-tinged lead refrain in subtle fashion. Driving, arpeggiated bass pushes the track along with unfussy percussion, haunting pads and strings floating in and out of the foreground. Praise for Deceiver “‘Deceiver’ is an unbridled pleasure” - Pitchfork  “A success as both an artistic statement and a mea culpa” - Q Magazine, ★★★★ “It sounds clearer, more focussed, and with a distinct, continuous sonic palette” - DIY, ★★★★ “‘Deceiver’ packs some seriously heavy riffs, sliding between monster rockers (the scything, fist-swinging ‘Blankenship’) and moon-eyed grunge ballads (opener ‘Horsehead’, for instance) that wouldn’t sound too out of place on an early Smashing Pumpkins record” - NME, ★★★★ “DIIV’s most full-bodied album to date” - Loud & Quiet, 8/10 Following the release of their highly anticipated third full-length album Deceiver, NYC's DIIV today announce their Australian return with a five-date national tour. Kicking off on Wednesday 22 April, the band will bring their enthralling new live show to fans in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth & Hobart. Full run of dates below. Rebirth takes place when everything falls apart. On Deceiver, DIIV crafts the soundtrack to personal resurrection under the heavyweight of metallic catharsis, upheld by robust guitars and vocal tension that almost snaps, but never quite… The new album from Zachary Cole Smith [lead vocals, guitar], Andrew Bailey [guitar], Colin Caulfield [vocals, bass], and Ben Newman [drums] was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Sonny Diperri (Protomartyr, Trent Reznor), marking the first time the band has worked with an outside producer. The album features the crystalized, darkly propulsive lead single 'Skin Game,' magnetically melancholic 'Taker' and searing, frenetic track 'Blankenship'. Deceiver is preceded by 2012’s Oshin and 2016’s critical and fan favourite Is the Is Are. NME ranked it in the Top 10 among the Albums of the Year and Pitchfork’s audience voted Is the Is Are one of the Top 50 Albums of 2016 as the outlet dubbed it, “gorgeous.” Don't miss your chance to see DIIV live in Australia this April. In true THE OFFSPRING style, this will be no ordinary show. Their incendiary live show will showcase wall to wall bangers of their anthemic, oft-humorous punk-pop singles throughout their impressive career including all of the band’s best-known hits such as Self Esteem, Come Out And Play (Keep ‘Em Separated), The Kids Aren’t Alright, Original Prankster, You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid and loads more!

They don’t come much more energetic than Sydney’s WAWAWOW - their name alone is like a neon slap to the senses - and to kick off a brand new year, the four-piece present a brand new collection of music in the cracking debut album, PINK ELEPHANT, out Friday, February 14th. Warping and threading psych, funk and hectic electro-indie influences throughout, the record is the perfect snapshot of the band’s attitude toward creating music. Leading the charge, WAWAWOW’s new single ‘The Big Cookoff’ is delightfully bonkers - just how they like it. Equal parts mental and ridiculously precise in delivery, ‘The Big Cookoff’ is textbook WAWAWOW. Evolving from jam sessions into produced recordings full of raw energy, the single is representative of a band who are firmly in the pocket, firmly tongue in cheek and firmly with their eye on a central vision on making music delivered in one-two punch style. “We always take it as a more-is-more approach with the music. As long as it’s paced nicely, we like to see how ridiculous it can get.” WAWAWOW Applying the same attitude to their visuals, the music video for ‘The Big Cookoff’ brings animation courtesy of Shaun Allen together with band and location footage in Sydney, sizing up brilliantly with the batshit nature of the song itself. “This track is our love/hate letter to Sydney in a lot of ways, so we wanted to get in as much of the city as possible. Given our natural aversion to being filmed walking around the streets, and the fact that we had just lost a band member, Shaun felt it was more fitting to try some stop motion.” WAWAWOW PRAISE FOR WAWAWOW “WAWAWOW just keep growing new teeth. This set doesn’t even pause for breath and is relentless, urgent, and nutty bananas from start to finish. This is one hell of a show, like being pounded and stomped, and loving every second.” The Underground Stage “Combine the righteous, face melting voltage of POND with the batshit zaniness of Tom Cruise appearing on Oprah and you’ll get an inkling for just how weird this four-piece can get.” Happy Magazine “A shattered self-deprecating tone marching through odd time signatures taking cues from somewhere between the B-52s and Royal Blood.” AMNplify With their new music ready and raring to go, fans will be able to catch WAWAWOW performing through NSW this month and in February. Time to join this crazy circus, WAWAWOW have got one helluva new show to deliver. “There’s something about the trance we put ourselves in, as we play without stopping, that has a slight tunnel vision effect. After 12 months in the studio Stonefox make a bold return in 2020 signed to Canadian electronic record label Seeking Blue (MrSuicideSheep) with a lush and melancholic new track ‘Lightning’.

Jimmy Eat World announce special guests Gyroscope & Eat Your Heart Out | March 2020

ANNOUNCE SPECIAL GUESTS GYROSCOPE (FREMANTLE)
+ EAT YOUR HEART OUT (BRISBANE/ADELAIDE)

Headed back to Australia in March 2020 for their first live shows in three years are Arizona rockers Jimmy Eat World, who recently released their acclaimed tenth studio album, Surviving. The Jim Adkins-led outfit delivered their most personal, ambitious record to date with their latest listen, Surviving voted by Kerrang as one of 2019’s ‘50 Albums That Set Your World Ablaze’.

Adelaide fans: get in quick to secure your tickets, with the band’s show at The Gov on Monday 23 March almost sold out!

Jimmy Eat World will perform three headline solo shows while in AU, kicking the tour off at Metropolis in Fremantle on Monday 16 March, followed by The Tivoli, Brisbane on Thursday 19 March, and then wrapping up in Adelaide. They’ll also perform in Sydney and Melbourne as part of the Download Festival (not Frontier shows).

Touched by our recent bushfire crisis, Jimmy Eat World are also lending their support during their upcoming shows:

“Australia is one of our favourite places to play in the world and the fans there are second to none. What is happening with the fires this season is heartbreaking and in addition to hopefully bringing some joy to those who attend our shows, we will be lending our time and resources in any way possible to the relief efforts.”

The band has designed a new T-shirt which will be available on tour and is currently available on their webstore, with proceeds going to Red Cross Australia.

Today, Frontier Touring announce the addition of two special guests on the bill:

Joining in Fremantle is red hot WA legends Gyroscope. The four-piece delivered a slew of triple j classics in the late ‘90s/early 00’s: think ‘Baby, I’m Getting Better’, ‘Snakeskin’, and ‘Fast Girl’… With 7 x Hottest 100 entries between 2003-2010, the band were quickly a staple of Australia’s festival scene, playing two Big Day Outs, Groovin The Moo, Splendour In The Grass and plenty more. Gyroscope earned nine WAMi awards, 3.4 million+ streams on Spotify, a #1 album in Breed Obsession, all before stirring it up again six months ago when they dropped EP 4YRLV . Now, they’ll appear as special guest of Jimmy Eat World – fun fact, who they played with in 2003!

In Brisbane and Adelaide, Jimmy Eat World will be joined by fast rising Newcastle five-piece Eat Your Heart Out, who recently smashed it as part of the line-up for UNIFY Gathering (catch a glimpse of that here). Early 2019 saw the release of the band’s debut album Florescence, out via Fearless Records. The quintet – Caitlin Henry (vocals), Andrew Anderson (guitar), Will Moore (guitar), Dom Cant (bass), and Jake Cronin (drums) – showcase a searing power on tracks like ‘Carousel’ and ‘Closer To The Sun’, earning over 2.7m streams on Spotify in 2019 and rising.

Soothsayer are delighted to reveal Willaris. K (Jack McAllister)’s latest single ‘INDIFFERENT’, the Australian electronic and ambient producer’s first-ever track to incorporate vocals, featuring Australian singer, songwriter and producer, Gordi (Sophie Payten). Premiered overnight via triple j Good Nights, ‘INDIFFERENT (WITH GORDI)’ is a harrowing and dramatic track that marks a transformative sonic turn for Willaris, showcasing his intrinsic ability to harness emotion through complex musical composition. Grounded in piano movements and melodic basslines, Willaris has built a textured and emotive soundscape that perfectly complements the haunting vocals the Bon Iver and Troye Sivan collaborator is famous for. The track was originally conceived at Willaris' home in NSW, then fine-tuned on Sophie’s farm in rural Australia, and finally perfected alongside renowned Sigur Ros collaborator and film composer Alex Somers at Shangri La Studios in Malibu, inside Bob Dylan’s iconic old tour bus.    "I wrote the instrumental as an experiment to see where I could take my music sonically. I wanted to explore it for film but also explore the more vulnerable side of Willaris. K. I melted when Sophie started singing the first line when we were recording." – Willaris. K   Gordi’s ability to make intensely emotional music is something the singer, songwriter and producer has mastered. With an impressive list of collaborations to her name, including Troye Sivan, Bon Iver, Julien Baker and The Tallest Man On Earth, her debut album, Reservoir (out through Jagjaguwar) was nominated for triple j's 'Album of the Year' in 2017.    “Jack and I talked about collaborating when we were lying on the floor of the living room in my apartment listening to music at 5am. The next day he sent me this song titled ‘Piano Man’. It had the beautiful piano part you hear in the song and it made me so sad. So I wrote a sad story to go with it about feeling nothing and called it ‘Indifferent’.”  - Gordi ‘INDIFFERENT’ follows Willaris’ last release, the A and B-side record ‘5 O’CLOCK’ - which was recently selected as the feature track for the UEFA Champions League recap commercial, airing across BT Sports TV channels internationally as well as online and mobile platforms, and its ambient counterpart ‘PAST LIGHT’, which is a testament to Willaris’ textural sound and early days collecting field recordings in Australia. Earlier this month, Willaris released a collection of atmospheric remixes of ‘5 O’CLOCK’ from rising electronica artists TSHA, Ghost Culture and Juno Mamba – listen here. The 2019/20 Australian Summer has already seen Willaris. K perform to packed-out dance tents at major festivals including Wildlands, Beyond The Valley, Output Super Club, Origin Fields and Castaway, after supporting RÜFÜS DU SOL on their SOLACE World Tour. In light of the recent bushfires in Australia, Willaris is playing a benefit show at Melbourne’s Seaworks on Sunday 9 February, where he will be waiving performance fees and donating all merch proceeds to the Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities.  ‘INDIFFERENT’ sees Willaris. Credit: Ivana Martyn-Zyznikow In the lead up to his much-anticipated appearance on Eurovision: Australia Decides on February 8th, Didirri has kicked off the new year with new single and video for "Raw Stuff", and announces a run of tour dates starting in April, and taking the Melbourne songwriter up and down the East Coast of Australia through to May. True to its name, "Raw Stuff" captures an unspoken, universal experience. It’s a song about a time when two people that, despite the closeness, are unable to open up to each other. Fortunately, the story and the song both find a resolution: "For the first time in my life, I was skipping Christmas. I was feeling very, very guilty about it. My passion for creative work had taken over too much of my life, so there I was, on the other side of the planet." Didirri says. "Though I was pursuing my creative goals, I was far from my family and friends. It was difficult to open up to someone I cared about back home. I couldn’t explain the mixed bag of emotions that was weighing me down so I gave up on the song quickly. It didn’t feel finished. Two years later I’m in the studio… the phone rings and it’s the person I had felt cut off from that year I skipped Christmas. They said they had felt the same, and had found it hard to open up as well. And that they were skipping Christmas this year. I instantly remembered the half-written song I never finished, and suddenly it all made sense. Part two. Raw Stuff instantly falls into two parts. The first half is my side of miscommunication, and the second my reaction to hearing they felt the same." Raw Stuff was written and later recorded in Johanna, Victoria. In November, Didirri was drawn to return to the same space once more to shoot the music video. The stunning landscape around the house, provides a poignant depiction of the beauty of nature, the complexity of returning home, and the rawness we feel when landscapes and relationships once familiar are no longer the same. "As we all watched our beautiful landscapes around Johanna, the sister towns not that far away were burning a few weeks after in December.   To hear of so many people losing their homes, of lives lost (both people and animals) broke our hearts while editing. We found that the more we went on, the more of that landscape needed to be included." Produced by Dann Hume and Hayden Calnin, "Raw Stuff" will be available on digital platforms from today, Thursday January 30th via UNIFIED, and will be performed live on the SBS broadcast of Eurovision: Australia Decides on Feb 8th. After releasing his debut EP "Measurements" just last year, Didirri has had a massive 12 months. From a collective 30 million streams, to playing Splendour In The Grass, to having 4x singles added to triple j rotation, to packing his bag and touring the US and UK twice in under 6 months. As well as playing The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, Latitude Festival in Suffolk, and Primavera Sounds in Barcelona, Didirri also played a series of shows across Europe only to return home to sell out multiple tours across Australia, including 170 Russell, and 2x Corner Hotel shows which he filmed and recorded for an intimate Live EP. The achievements are impressive and humbling, and ultimately highlight that no matter the language, the location, the age, on a small stage or large, there’s something about Didirri’s music that connects with people in a really special way. His lyrics open the door usher you into his mind, connecting with listeners on a level rarely seen in modern music. Over 75 artists will make their way to Amsterdam in August for what is shaping up to be a huge 25th anniversary year for the long-running promoter. Since day one the stunning Sloterpark in the Dutch capital serves as a stunning backdrop for the 2-day festival weekender. Ever since 1995, the driving force behind the Loveland organisation has been the endless love for quality house and techno music. In 2020 this still serves as a guiding principle when it comes to the artist lineup. The well-balanced lineup features leading global artists such as Diynamic head honcho Solomun, Afterlife founders Tale Of Us, Detroit legend Jeff Mills and the highly praised Dixon. Making his comeback at Loveland Festival is the illustrious Eric Prydz. Joining the list of headliners are UK-ace Jamie Jones, widely respected duo Adriatique, seasoned veteran Richie Hawtin, the charismatic Loco Dice and hard hitters like Chris Liebing, Rødhåd and Dave Clarke. Fans of a more melodic, progressive sound can indulge themselves with the return of Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Guy J, Guy Mantzur together with Dutchies Miss Melera and Olivier Weiter. There is no shortage of Dutch powerhouses with pioneers Speedy J, Joris Voorn and Secret Cinema. Representing the new generation are Egbert, VNTM and Ferro. Fueled by the love for music, the festival has a long history of quality live performances. Stephan Bodzin, Agents of Time, Mathew Jonson, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Booka Shade will be on live act duties in 2020. To top it all off Kevin Saunderson’s Inner City will take the stage for some big fun with a special live performance.  Over the 25-year history, many artists grew to be long-time fan favorites at Loveland. The likes of Sébastien Léger, Aril Brikha, Arjuna Schiks, Remy, Dimitri, Michel de Hey, Melon, Vince Watson and Benny Rodrigues to name just a few. One stage will be dedicated to all of Loveland’s legacy artists. On Saturday this will be a live-only stage and on Sunday it’s strictly back-to-back sets. As a special surprise, Loveland announced this week that it will take over a 4-star hotel during the festival weekend. Nestled right in between the old Amsterdam city center and the festival grounds, overlooking the green oasis of Sloterpark, the hotel offers spacious rooms fitted with all modern conveniences, a rooftop Skybar with a panoramic view of Amsterdam. The hotel package offers an experience of Loveland Festival like never before.  Visitors can add to the fun with alluring upgrades like a Rooftop BBQ, hangover breakfast and exclusive afterparties or really hit it out of the park with the all-in Golden Package including 2-day backstage access for the festival. Single day and Weekend tickets for the festival are on sale, as are the hotel packages. For the full lineup of Loveland Festival, tickets and more information, visit www.loveland.nl.
