MILD MANIC RELEASE NEW SINGLE MEMORIES

by the partae June 25, 2020
written by the partae

Today, Melbourne punk/rock band Mild Manic release their new single Memories.

Produced by the band and Sam Johnson at Holes and Corners Studios (Luca Brasi, Camp Cope, The Bennies) in Melbourne, Memories is the first piece of new music from the band since their 2018 single Global Threat.

“This song was written about overcoming the feeling of hopelessness you feel when going through a time of loss. Grief is something everyone is subject to, and ‘Memories’ is about being able to go through the motions with the love and support of friends to help carry the burden. Though someone may be gone from this world, they still live within us, in our hearts and in our memories. To celebrate life in death. There is a story to tell for every one of your tears”  vocalist / bassist Dave Boyes

Mild Manic, who formed in 2015, are brothers Chris & Sam Rees on guitars, Dave Boyes on bass and Jye Flynn on drums. The band have released 2 Eps and numerous singles, which saw them tour the nation several times over performing alongside acts Luca Brasi, Hockey Dad, Dear Seattle and Hands Like Houses.

MICHAEL GUDINSKI ANNOUNCES NEW LABEL RECLUSIVE RECORDS + SIGNS SCOTT DARLOW
Music News

Michael Gudinski Announces New Label Reclusive Records + Signs Scott Darlow

by the partae June 25, 2020
written by the partae
  • Michael Gudinski launches his own boutique label Reclusive Records
  • Reclusive begins with signing Scott Darlow, and his single ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’
  • ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ features Ian Kenny, lead singer of Birds of Tokyo and speaks an important message about equality and unity with First Nations people
  • Proceeds from the streams and downloads of ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ will be donated to the Wirrpanda Foundation

Michael Gudinski has just announced his new label, Reclusive Records. Working together with Andrew Mackie (Reclusive’s Director of A&R), Gudinski was inspired by his ongoing label involvement to create Reclusive as a boutique label.

Reclusive launches with a new single from its latest signing, Yorta Yorta singer-songwriter Scott Darlow and his new single ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’. Featuring the incredible voice of Ian Kenny, lead singer of Birds Of Tokyo, ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ is an anthemic rock song about race relations, written from his perspective as a First Nations man. A mainstay of Australia’s Indigenous music industry, Scott is a versatile singer-songwriter, guitarist and didgeridoo player who has sold more than 50,000 albums worldwide. Darlow is a passionate First Nations activist and World Vision spokesperson, regularly speaking in hundreds of schools and corporate settings about his indigenous culture, Australian history, racial tolerance, harmony and important social matters.

Michael Gudinski says, “I am excited to launch Reclusive Records which I’ve been thinking about for quite a while but was holding off until I found the right artist for the right time.  With this new label we are focused on career development and being patient with artists. There will be no musical boundaries within the Reclusive label. I have believed in Scott Darlow for many years and it feels incredibly fitting that the first release for Reclusive is Scott’s extremely poignant and timely song ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ which will lead into a very strong EP in the next couple of months.  Mushroom Group has always firmly supported Indigenous artists  – Yothu Yindi (‘Treaty’ was the first song by a predominantly Indigenous band to chart in Australia and it was the first song in an Aboriginal language, Gumatj, to gain extensive airplay and international recognition), Archie Roach (who has a 30 year history with Mushroom), Troy Cassar-Daley, Christine Anu, Dan Sultan – and we look forward to continuing this with Scott Darlow and ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’.”

Andrew Mackie says, “The Mushroom Group is like family to me and I could not be more thrilled to be working with Michael and the team as A&R Director for Reclusive Records. I feel honoured to be in this new role where I can help develop careers of talented artists.”

Scott Darlow says, “’You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ is a song that I’ve spent my whole life trying to write. It is difficult to articulate the battle I’ve felt as an Indigenous person, when there is still so much love, passion and connection to Australian land. ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ isn’t just a song written for the current Black Lives Matter movement – this is the journey that I have lived and breathed my entire life.”

Ian Kenny says, “‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ is a passionate song talking about real issues in our own backyard. Scott Darlow has a truly powerful message and now is a good time for everyone to start listening to a voice like his. Recognise, reform and reconcile are the words I hear.”

The proceeds from streams and downloads of ‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark’ will be donated to Wirrpanda Foundation. Launched in 2005 by former West Coast Eagles player David Wirrpanda, The Wirrpanda Foundation aims to lead the provision of education and employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians by working together to empower and build capacity amongst individuals, their families and their communities.

‘You Can’t See Black In The Dark (feat. Ian Kenny)’ lyrics:
Been here longer than time
And our blood’s soaked into the earth below
I can still see the line
Kept us separated from each other that’s the way it was
In 67 my name, was recognised
But do you recognise the pain
Are you released from your shame
(Long) while our kids are locked up (short) like a dog inside a cage

I’m not blinded by the sins of the past
We’re burning but we never struck the match
I’m gonna make a fire from this spark
We’re gonna light it up you can’t see black in the dark

Another 3 years gone
And still you rape the land that you’ve been stealing from
Digging into her soul
Like our mother’s nothing to you but a handful of coal
All we own is time
But all I hear is talk about the bottom line
Have a look at the crimes
That left our sons and daughters dying before their time

Now I sleep with one eye open
Can I let go of the past?
I’m shining bright, and i won’t stop
Faster than the speed of light into the black

YIBBY PUTS THE VISUALS TO LAID BACK NEW SINGLE ‘NO SWEAT’

by the partae June 25, 2020
written by the partae

“King Yib back with bars and all the vocal textures that’ve establishes him as a memorable voice in Australian hip-hop.” – Tommy Faith, triple j Unearthed

“Yibby’s energy and enthusiasm are innate – spitting bars with a confidence beyond his years without so much as breaking a sweat.” – FBi Radio

Teaming up with regular collaborator Andy Bull, YIBBY reveals the vintage-tinged visuals for current single ‘No Sweat’ which premiered on the I’M HIP HOP Youtube channel, illustrating the blossoming and quick breakdown of a friendship.

Once again the Ethiopian-born, South Sydney-raised rapper has teamed up with dynamic producing duo Clockwork Odyssey to create a funk riddled track full of swirling synths and a bouncing beat, as a bed for YIBBY’s signature animated flow. YIBBY explains the content saying “No Sweat is about not stressing while going through adversity or dealing with things and still celebrating the wins.”

Since its premiere on triple j’s Home & Hosed, ‘No Sweat’ has been added to Spotify’s Local Hype, Beats n’ Bars and The Drip and was included in The Guardian’s Best Music for May.

Forever a melting pot of genres, YIBBY’s music always comes accompanied with coming of age tales and food for thought bars. His debut single ‘Woah’ came in late 2018 signalling the start of a rapid fire first year for the now 20-year-old which consisted of the Lost In Translation EP and a hard-hitting team up with fellow up-and-comer Raj Mahal.

Quickly gaining recognition from fans and media, last year he came in at #14 on FBi Radio’s Most Played Artists of 2019. He also left his mark on triple j’s Bars of Steel and FBi Radio’s Independent Play series whilst garnering fans from Sniffers, Tone Deaf, Life Without Andy, Purple Sneakers and more. Single ‘Folk’, pulled from his debut EP, was added to spot rotation on triple j, as well as full adds on triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, SYN Radio, 4ZZZ and EDGE Radio, and spins on Beats Radio 1.

On the live circuit he’s cut his teeth supporting Winston Surfshirt, Boo Seeka, Drapht, Arno Faraji, Milan Ring and Kuren as well as performing a show-stopping set at Bad Friday Festival.

CULTS Release new single ‘Spit You Out’

by the partae June 25, 2020
written by the partae

Nearly a decade ago Cults emerged with their breakout single, ‘Go Outside,’ which the New York Times hailed as “one of the indie rock highlights” of the year. Little did we know that song was a premonition to a global pandemic where we now plead their lyrics “I really wanna go outside.”

Today Cults, aka multi-instrumentalist/singer Madeline Follin and multi-instrumentalist Brian Oblivion, share their new pulsating single ‘Spit You Out’ that pries itself free from the clutches of a toxic dependence, with Follin singing, “Break the bond / I’m so glad / So glad you’re gone.” ‘Spit You Out’ is co-produced by Cults & Shane Stoneback, mixed by John Congleton, and mastered by Heba Kadry. The track is accompanied by a Mukbang / ASMR-like video featuring Follin eating and spitting out food in front of Zoom default backgrounds.

‘Spit You Out’ marks the start of a bold new chapter for the band as Follin confesses, “in the past, I’d never brought my own music to the table because I was just too shy.” This track is the first entirely co-written/performed/sung/co-produced from Follin; a radical reimagining, both of the band’s sound and its dynamic.

Cults on ‘Spit You Out’ – “On this single we tried on some of our more left field influences from the exotica sounds of Esquivel to Nine Inch Nails style heaviness. It focuses on parasitic relationships and breaking away from toxic patterns of interaction. We never imagined it would relate to a worldwide pandemic.”

Formed while Follin and Oblivion were still just students in college, Cults released ‘Go Outside’. Both a commercial and critical smash, the track would go on to rack up more than 40 million streams on Spotify, land in soundtracks everywhere from Broad City to Gossip Girl, and help the band score a major label deal for their self-titled debut, released the following year on Columbia Records. Pitchfork called the album “catchy and sweet,” cutting “1960’s girl – pop…with synths, guitars, and softly integrated samples,” while the New Yorker lauded the band’s “agonizingly catchy vintage – pop.” The duo followed it up with the similarly celebrated Static in 2013, and they returned in peak form four years later with Offering, that Billboard described as a “luxury…(head)banger,” and AV Club praised their music “a magic carpet ride over hand-clap-heavy canyons of California pop.”  Over the year they’ve built up a devoted audience along the way through relentless headline touring and festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Coachella, Austin City Limits, and more.

WIDOWSPEAK announce new album Plum + share single ‘Money’

by the partae June 25, 2020
written by the partae
Past praise for Widowspeak

“Widowspeak fuses lightness and darkness like few others.” – NPR

“Romances, lives, cities, worlds — Widowspeak’s songs contemplate their erosion with a dazed acceptance and music that keeps opening up new spaces.” – New York Times

“Every Widowspeak record is exceptionally intimate.” – AV Club

“Widowspeak take bits and pieces of rock, folk, and country history to make a pop Americana sound that feels antique.” – Pitchfork

“Optimistic-feeling swirl of twangy, textured guitars and dreamy-as-hell vocals” – The FADER

“Rich and atmospheric…speaking to the restlessness of human existence”  – KEXP

“Widowspeak take the best parts of folk and shoegaze and twist them together” – Stereogum

Today Widowspeak announce their new album Plum, to be released August 28 via Captured Tracks / Remote Control.  Along with the announcement, the duo (singer-songwriter Molly Hamilton and guitarist Robert Earl Thomas) share ‘Money‘: the record’s hypnotic second single. “Will you get back what you put in?” Hamilton asks over an insistent guitar riff, a line delivered with a playful knowingness. ‘Money‘ considers whether this is, in fact, the world we want to live in: a world that increasingly sees monetization as the greatest goal, even at such great expense to ourselves, and especially our future. What does it mean to contribute? And what is the cost of “selling out”?

Molly Hamilton on ‘Money‘ – “I’ve been thinking a lot about the things we tell ourselves in order to ‘forget’ the toll of our collective actions: whatever makes it easier to forgive what we’re complicit in. Some of that is related to the environment and how people have trained themselves to tune out ‘environmentalist propaganda’. We made part of the video at a park in Kingston, NY and the archival footage is mostly pulled from films aimed at employees or shareholders of various industries. The narration for many of them (forestry, agriculture, mining, energy) was surprisingly concerned with the dangers of an environment out of balance… Shows you that we haven’t learned much in the last 70 years. On the other hand, the lyrics are also about capitalism and how it trains us to see everything in terms of value, even our experiences, and we get so caught up in seeking some sort of return on investment that we ignore the damage we inflict (on people, on ourselves, on the planet).”

This follows the release of the album’s first single “Breadwinner,” a track “as spare and breathy and beautiful as anything they’ve released” (Stereogum), and “a gorgeous delivery of a troubled reality” (Jezebel).  It’s a song about shared burdens in life and love, and hoping that there’s something transcendent, honest in whatever it is to work.

On Plum, Widowspeak continue to expand on the shared visions they’ve explored across five albums, delving deeper into what was always there: dusty guitars, ear-worm melodies, warm expansive arrangements.  In the decade since forming they’ve garnered praise from top outlets, with The New York Times saying “…their music keeps opening up new spaces” and NPR noting the duo’s ability to “fuse lightness and darkness like few others.”  Recorded over a handful of weekends last winter by Sam Evian (Cass McCombs, Kazu Makino, Hannah Cohen) at his Flying Cloud studio in the Catskills, and mixed by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, Perfume Genius), Plum was finished up just as the start of spring signaled something, everything was changing. Hamilton’s lyrics speak to the unique turmoil of anyone who creates as their work, who must somehow survive off such “fruits of their labor.” With its release, Widowspeak have brought something into the world that seems to know its own worth, even as it wonders aloud about what is to come.

BING & RUTH Share new single ‘The Pressure Of This Water’ New album Species out Friday 17 July

by the partae June 25, 2020
written by the partae

Released today, ‘The Pressure Of This Water’ is the third single to be taken from Bing & Ruth’s forthcoming new album, Species out July 17 via 4AD / Remote Control.

‘The Pressure Of This Water’ is released today with visuals created by Michael Speed and Marisa Gesauldi. Clocking in at a meditative 10-minutes, Bing & Ruth’s ringleader, David Moore says of ‘The Pressure Of This Water’, “it’s the first song I wrote on my Farfisa, and it’s stuck by me through all the time since. The accompanying visuals here are from Michael Speed who, faced with the impossibility of actually travelling to the desert, chose to collage publicly available stock footage into a video that reflects the arid nature of the track itself.”

Bing & Ruth is the ever-evolving project helmed by New York composer David Moore. While on a surface level, Species is an exploration of the sonic possibilities of the Farfisa organ, aided only by a clarinet and double bass (played respectively by founding members Jeremy Viner and Jeff Ratner), the title Species is a nod to both humanity and humility – a devotion to the godly intuition with which we are all endowed, and the humbleness required of us to perceive it. It’s also about suspended time and trance; not just a steady movement from A to B, but as something that flows, meanders and eddies, like water. “I suppose what interested me the most in putting this together was the concept of trance and what can happen to the listener by submitting to the wave of the thing,” Moore explains. “Upon reflection, I suppose what I was moving towards was a way to feel small – a way to feel deeply humble. I had always made music in search of some sort of inner peace, but I no longer cared so much to comfort myself.  I’d grown tired, it seemed, of looking inward. I wanted to look nowhere.”

Species, and the transcendental state it embodies, was inspired by two recent loves of Moore’s: the desert and long-distance running. Briefly relocating from his New York base to Point Dume, between the Pacific Ocean and the desert, Moore was able to indulge in both passions, which in turn provided stimulus for new work. He says, “I’d found myself in places unfamiliar enough that I could easily lose all sense of direction, size and, more than anything, all sense of time. The music I was making became a kind of reflection of these intentional detachments – and a place to mirror that feeling of trance that had pushed them out in the first place.”

Breakthrough French-Canadian producer CRi releases new single Never Really Get There feat. Jesse Mac Cormack + music video filmed in lockdown, directed by CRi’s sister Alexa-Jeanne Dubé out now on Anjunadeep

by the partae June 24, 2020
written by the partae
“His music defies predictable electronic pigeonholing” – VICE
French-Canadian producer and live act Christophe Dubé, aka CRi, is a dance music star in the making. Following in the footsteps of fellow Montréalers Jacques Greene and Kaytranada, CRi has risen through the city’ss bubbling scene in recent years and 2020 is set to be his biggest year yet as he shares his latest single ‘Never Really Get There‘ with fellow Montréal native Jesse Mac Cormack.
A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, CRi caught the attention of tastemaker press with early singles ‘Rush’ and ‘Don’t’, which were accompanied by award-nominated music videos, and picked up a nomination for Electronic Release of The Year at the 2018 Juno Awards (Canada’s equivalent to The Grammy’s).
CRi‘s sound blurs light, dream-like melodies with textured production – capturing the energy of the dancefloor, and the nostalgia of the morning after. Christophe draws inspiration from his musical heroes Moby, St Germain and Daniel Bélanger, along with more contemporary influences ranging from Caribou and Dark Sky to Jacques Greene and Actress.
Having debuted on Anjunadeep in 2019 he quickly caught the ear of BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong and Annie Mac with his ‘Initial EP’, which was also championed on KCRW by Jason Bentley.
CRi‘s latest single ‘Never Really Get There’ features long-time collaborator Jesse Mac Cormack, weaving CRi‘s alternative electronic sound with Jesse’s delicate vocals.
“The creative process behind this song was pretty quick. We met up at my studio on a
Friday afternoon. We were supposed to put together a song for this Chinese phone
company, OPPO. Without a word, Jesse went straight to the piano. He played a few
chords and started to sing. That’s when I realized we weren’t going to do a song for an
ad.” – CRi
“This song is about setting high expectations in relationships and
quickly jumping from one to another in denial. Pushing further the moment you will meet with the parts of yourself you don’t want to deal with.” – Jess Mac Cormack
The single is accompanied with a music video, directed by his sister Alexa-Jeanne Dubé, a notable filmmaker and director from Montréal; filmed during lockdown amid the current Coronavirus pandemic. CRi explains:
“I had this kind of voyeur idea, about filming people dancing in their homes through the window. For me, the window represents a kind of bridge between two worlds, two realities, inside and outside. It’s symbolic for the song, because ‘Never Really Get There’ is about being stuck outside yourself and not being able to get back in.”

JESS CORNELIUS Shares new single & video 'Body Memory'

JESS CORNELIUS Shares new single & video ‘Body Memory’

by the partae June 24, 2020
written by the partae
Los Angeles-based musician Jess Cornelius releases a new single/video, ‘Body Memory,’ from her debut album, Distance, out July 24th via Part Time Records / Remote Control. It follows the Roy Orbison tinged rave-up, ‘Kitchen Floor.’ On ‘Body Memory,‘ the last song she wrote for the record, Cornelius intones over a calming electro-rhythm “When we met I used to make you laugh/then we lost the baby and it broke my heart,” adding later: “My body has a memory and it won’t forget.” Its accompanying video, the second she’s made since the start of the pandemic lockdown, was created by Cornelius and her partner and filmed on an iPhone at Lake Isabella, California. Cornelius elaborates on the video:

“Originally I had a much more elaborate, narrative-based concept, where I was this woman running away from a cult, (hence the tracksuit and Nikes), to be filmed in Oildale and Posey where my partner, Joe, is fixing up an old cabin. At the last minute, we decided to drive to Lake Isabella because of supposed good visuals there. I was grumbling all the way there about how the location wouldn’t fit with my shot list, but when we got there and I started dancing on rocks, we just threw away the shot list and made it up as we went along. The editing was fun because I’m teaching myself Premiere Pro (thanks YouTube tutorials) and I got to throw every hilarious video effect at it. We were also heavily influenced by Laraaji’s videos, obviously.”

Cornelius first began writing the songs that would comprise Distance after moving from Melbourne, Australia to Los Angeles. At the time, she was excited to start fresh after several years as the primary songwriter in the band Teeth and Tongue. But the distance she addresses over the album is hardly a geographical one. The journey over Distance is a celebration of newness. New beginnings and new perspectives on endings. From the chaos of a vagabond lifestyle to expecting a child just weeks before the albums’ release and researching how to tour as a mother in the coming years.

While the sonic tones and textures on the album evoke certain classic staples of Americana, soul and rock and roll, Cornelius’ lyrics anchor the songs to a deeply personal place. She sings of a miscarriage, a messy romantic affair, and the frustrations that come with having a partner. Distance finds a deft songwriter analyzing the space between society’s expectations for her and her own dreams, the illusion of love and the reality of disappointment, and a past she is ready to let go of and a future she could have hardly imagined.

Today, global DJ/Producer and entrepreneur, Steve Aoki is back with a remix of J-pop artist, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s Japanese No.1 platinum-selling single, ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’ released on Smash The House.

The spectacular fusion of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Steve Aoki on this sugary J-pop-dance track delivers a technicolor extravaganza that is brimming with the larger-than-life personalities of two of music’s most distinctive superstars. The Japanese pop queen’s original song reimagined by EDM’s supercharged hit-maker producer is something so overly eccentric that it will have you vividly fall in love with ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’.

Bringing his trademark energy, Aoki’s remix triggers the pace of the record from the opening few bars which lifts into an almost immersive vibrancy of cosmic sounds. Aoki’s rendition of ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’ swings in favour of a speedy melodic vibe that is hyper-catchy and ties effortlessly with Kyary’s cute vocals.

First released in 2013, ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’ has become a worldwide phenomenon with over 65million YouTube views to date. The track was also featured on animated movie ‘Sing’ featuring Matthew McConaughey and Scarlett Johansson and the latest John Wick movie: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. It is also confirmed to feature in the TV commercial and end theme for the forthcoming video game cartoon animation, Ninjala.

About Kyary Pamyu Pamyu:
Originally a fashion blogger and model, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has become one of the most exciting cultural sensations in the world today. Her attention-grabbing style and bubbling cuteness have led to many of music’s biggest pop-queens, most notably Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, naming her as an inspiration. But whilst Kyary’s“girly dream world” is unmissable, her music is equally unavoidable. Four albums, a string of greatest hits and several world tours under her belt already, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is far from a passing trend. Having a digital fan base of more than 7million fans makes Kyary one of the most followed Japanese artists. Add to that her numerous accolades from the likes of Vogue, Fuse TV and MTV mean Kyary is one of the country’s most celebrated too.

About Steve Aoki:
Steve Aoki, the two-time Grammy-nominated producer/DJ is one of today’s most successful American cross-genre artists, collectively counting 2.6 billion music streams on Spotify, with an additional 355 million music streams on YouTube. As the founder of the trendsetting record label, events/lifestyle company, and apparel line Dim Mak Records, which he founded in 1996, Aoki has helped launch the careers of global acts like The Chainsmokers, Bloc Party, The Bloody Beetroots, The Gossip, and The Kills, among many others. Dim Mak today counts more than 1,000 official releases from the biggest acts and most buzzing newcomers across EDM, indie rock, hip-hop, and beyond over its two-decades-plus discography. PLANTS AND ANIMALS Announce new album The Jungle Share new single ‘House On Fire’

Montreal indie rock trio Plants and Animals announce The Jungle, their fifth studio album set to be released Friday 23 October via Secret City Records / Remote Control. Their shortest album yet and certainly their boldest, The Jungle is eight acts in a world full of noise. The album is auto-produced and was recorded at Mixart, their studio in Montreal. Today they share their lead single and video ‘House On Fire’, an upbeat and energetic anthem. ‘House on Fire,‘ came from Warren’s haunting feeling that a friend who was taking too many sleeping pills might forget to turn his stove off.

The band explains: “We started working on this a couple of years ago. Warren was afraid for a friend’s health. He thought he was self-medicating too much and not taking care of himself. He couldn’t let go of this image of an overworked dude swallowing too many sleeping pills and falling asleep with the stove on. So it began as the place next door, sometime before Greta Thunberg turned the expression into a rallying cry, where Earth is the house and the people are sleeping. It’s terrifying, and on the whole we’re not unlike this friend, are we?”

The Jungle starts with electronic drums that sound like insects at night. A whole universe comes alive in the dark. It’s beautiful, complex and unsettling. Systematic and chaotic. All instinct, no plan. Voices taunt, “yeah yeah yeah.” Every song is a landscape. The first one grinds to a halt and you become a kid looking out a car window at the moon, wondering how it’s still on your tail as you speed past a steady blur of trees. You get pummeled by a rhythm then set free by a sudden change of scenery—the wind stops, clarity returns.

These are personal experiences made in a volatile world, and they reflect that world right back at us, even by accident. There’s one song Nic sings to his teenage son who was dealing with climate change anxiety and drifting into uncharted independence. The band carries the song slowly together into a sweet blue horizon. Warren wrote the words to another shortly after losing his father. It’s about the things we inherit not necessarily being the things we want.

Plants and Animals are an iconic Montreal-based trio that began playing together as kids and emerged on the international scene in 2008 with Parc Avenue. The band has developed a varied cult following ever since, built on the shoulders of their self-produced records and their intense live shows. Parc Avenue was released during the famous Montreal-is-the-new-Seattle music moment. This release set Plants and Animals as an incredible live force, a powerful songwriting trio and opened doors for them to tour the world many times over with people like Portugal. The Man, Gnarls Barkley and more. Three other releases followed La La Land (2010), The End of That (2012) and Waltzed in from the Rumbling (2016). The band was shortlisted (2008) and longlisted (2010) for the Polaris Music Prize and received multiple Juno Awards and ADISQ Awards nominations over the years.

HAMMER & BIRD RELEASE ENGROSSING DEBUT SINGLE + VIDEO FOR ‘PULL ME BACK’

HAMMER & BIRD RELEASE ENGROSSING DEBUT SINGLE + VIDEO FOR ‘PULL ME BACK’

by the partae June 23, 2020
written by the partae

Brand new Melbourne-based alternative trio Hammer & Bird have today released their debut single ‘Pull Me Back,’ a song that laments the discomfort of simply going through life’s motions and knowing it isn’t right.

Combining crisp guitars, soft strings and emotive male lead vocals, ‘Pull Me Back’ perfectly demonstrates the band’s influences from both orchestral and alternative music. Sombre but driving, ‘Pull Me Back’ is “a song about the persistent feeling of being out of place. When the routine of what is expected is at odds with your inner private world,” as described by Thomas E. Flatman, lead vocalist.

The releases with an accompanying music video edited by Flatman and filmed in his back shed. The video stunningly captures the intimacy and emotionality of the song, featuring projections of images invoked by the lyrics onto band members as they perform.

Hammer & Bird is the second project where Thomas E. Flatman, Mark D’Angelo and Antonio Sanciolo have combined their talents: the trio previously performed together in the band Durbeyfield, achieving support slots for the likes of Clare Bowditch, Missy Higgins and The Whitlams and performances at various Victorian and interstate music festivals. Each member has also developed successful individual careers in music: Antonio has composed music for independent film and television shows, Thomas has released music as a solo artist and in indie-electro duo The Gall, and Mark co-owns The Backlot Studios, working with artists ranging from John Cleese to Jimmy Barnes and labels such as Sony, Warner, Universal and Neon Records.

‘Pull Me Back’ is only the first taste of much more music to be released by Hammer & Bird: in fact, they have a whole album of new material being prepared for release later in 2020. Entitled Rest For The Wicked, it will not be one to miss.

Evoking comparisons to Seachange-era Beck and Nick Drake, Hammer & Bird is a blank slate ready to make a unique mark on the Australian alternative scene.

‘Pull Me Back’ is OUT NOW.

Oliver Heldens remixes Katy Perry’s glorious ‘Daisies’

by the partae June 23, 2020
written by the partae

With over 90 million streams across DSPs in less than a month since it’s release, Katy Perry’s epic new single ‘Daisies’ has been one of the big hits of the last few weeks leading Rolling Stone to label it “Resilient…anthemic…‘Daisies’ is a booming, empowering song about the strength of the human spirit”. While her pop sensibilities and soaring vocals shine through as strongly as ever on the track, its understated ballad style and spacious drum hits made it a track that was screaming out for a high-energy remix, leading Capitol Records and Perry to call on Rotterdam’s finest, Oliver Heldens, who steps up to the task and delivers in style.

A tight house beat is met head-on by a rubbery, elastic bassline in his rework, with Perry’s dulcet verse vocals paired perfectly with warm synth chords. The chorus unfolds over commanding piano chords that play out a joyous melody, with subtle strings doubling up as she sings her heart out. Her cries of “Daisies!” lift higher and higher, giving an explosive feel to each and every drop and twist of the track.

In other news, Heldens delighted fans this month with his special live stream from Amsterdam’s prestigious Royal Concertgebouw as part of the Digital Mirage Online Festival, debuting no less than seven brand-new tracks in the process. With over 110 thousand people tuned in simultaneously, Heldens was decked out in an orchestra conductor-style tuxedo, delivering his very best in the stunning historical venue, causing both EDMTunes & We Rave You to label it “set of the year”.

Katy Perry ‘Daisies (Oliver Heldens Remix)’ is out today.

About Oliver Heldens:
25-year-old Dutch star Oliver Heldens, stands out from the crowd with his own distinctive sound, counting numerous No. 1 hits and over 2 billion cumulative streams to his name. As well as being one of the most talented producers in the game, he is also officially one of the world’s favorite house DJs, landing at #7 in the 2019 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs pool. Florian Picasso delighted millions with special live stream

The famous DJ embraced his Vietnamese heritage during an exclusive set

On Sunday, June 21st, Florian Picasso performed an exclusive live stream to highlight his Vietnamese heritage. Picasso is no stage name, the internationally acclaimed DJ and producer was adopted from Vietnam into the Picasso family by Pablo’s granddaughter, but still strongly embraces his origins.
WATCH HERE

Picasso’s performance was viewed by over a million people and received thousands of comments as he showcased his cleverly crafted tracks surrounded by a unique VR environment. To pay tribute to his Vietnamese heritage, Florian teamed up with a VR company and performed the first half of the live stream on the river banks of the Mekong and the second half in the city of Saigon.

The last show Florian played in Vietnam was in 2017 for New Year’s Eve, where he attracted 80.000 people as solo headliner. ‘When I play in Vietnam it feels extra special and the connection I have with the crowd there is really the best on earth for me. One of my biggest regrets is to not be there more often and I want to change that from now on!’ Florian Picasso says.

With this live stream reaching close to two million fans around the world and mainly in Vietnam, Florian is not planning on slowing down anytime soon. He has other exciting live streams planned, one of which will highlight his Picasso heritage and will take place at the Picasso Villa La Californie in Cannes at the end of July. More information will follow soon!

About Florian Picasso

Florian Picasso is synonymous with a high-octane style of EDM that focuses on larger-than-life, unrelenting riffs and raw textures and is squarely focused on the dancefloor. But within that he shows an impressive range, from pacey trance bangers to phat trap style beats, rampant electro house, and gentle dancepop. Growing up between Paris, Cannes and Switzerland, Florian founds his first musical love in the form of classic hip-hop, before discovering the likes of Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada and beginning his explorations into electronic music. He began DJing ages 13 on a basic setup, learning basic scratching techniques and honing his skills for a few years before he started messing around with beats.

It’s evident from the very good company he keeps in his release schedule that he’s an artist with high standards, collaborating with artists like Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, and more recently Gashi & Ally Brooke on ‘Like You Do’, Florian Picasso is most certainly piquing the interest of EDM’s uppermost elite.

We’re all really pleased with how many figureheads of the Ibiza scene came forward to donate music for this very special and much needed initiative”

Hello friends.

We live in Ibiza and deeply love our island!

Just a couple of weeks into the quarantine Grego G suggested the idea of joining the love we have for the music and the time we currently spend staying physically distant from each other, to come virtually closer around a common project.

Stephane Ghenacia and Alex Garcia loved the idea and joined forces to take advantage lock-down situation to help people, despite the distance.

Coming together in these times of trouble allows us to keep a social link, adding humanity to this never foreseen situation.

We have decided to help the FOOD FOR IBIZA organisation, which does a remarkable job supporting the families who face difficulties in Ibiza.

For many different reasons, this island means a lot to us; therefore, we care a lot for its inhabitants.

The people who work and live here contribute to preserving the exceptional and unique identity of Ibiza. The Ibiza people and kids are the future of this magical island, so we have to take care of them. We have created a Non-Profit Label exclusively dedicated to this cause and project, and all the profits will be donated to the FOOD FOR IBIZA association.

The principle is simple: unite as many artists as possible to create music and create a direct beneficial impact in the community.

We thought to start with forty artist and the list just got bigger and bigger.
Here are the names. Each artist has contributed by offering one production.
