Today, global star Tamino releases the third single, “You Don’t Own Me” alongside a soul-stirring music video, off his highly anticipated forthcoming sophomore album, Sahar, due out September 23 on Virgin Music Australia.
“You Don’t Own Me” is inspired by “Man’s Search For Meaning” by Viktor E. Frankl, a psychiatrist, philosopher and holocaust survivor who saw the search for meaning as central to the human condition. The song proclaims an existentialist commitment to freedom and offers a universal message of solace in the face of oppression.
Legendary Olivier-winning choreographer and Beyonce collaborator Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui was commissioned to choreograph the coinciding video. The result is a magisterial interpretation of time and oppression, represented by ten dancers behaving as an anonymous horde of bodies looming over Tamino, in turn becoming an extension of the sand swarming the expanse.
Director Bastiaan Lochs says of the video, “Time, to me, is the most universal oppressing force. the passing of time weighs down on everyone everywhere always. Our lives tick away second by second and there is no escaping this. But showing clocks didn’t seem very appropriate. Sand has always been the closest relatable substance to time for me. Perhaps because of the hourglass. Sand falling and filling up a space feels like a physical representation of time beating down relentlessly. The idea of Tamino in a house slowly filling up with sand started forming. A place undefinable in time. Where each second might as well be an eternity.”

Born from Tamino’s Antwerp apartment and bolstered by collaborators including Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, producer/engineer PJ Maertens and drummer Ruben Vanhoutte, Sahar is a powerhouse sophomore effort that mixes Arabic folk and experimental indie rock with sweeping orchestral arrangements. On Sahar, Tamino rearticulates the Arabic oud, the instrument of his grandfather Muharram Fouad, one of Egypt’s most celebrated singers and actors, into more a ‘typical’ indie rock instrumentation. The way it pairs with his smoldering voice creates a sonic landscape which is lush, layered and haunting. Sahar is where the romanticism and tragedy of Jeff Buckley meets a cosmopolitan, universalist aesthetic sensibility – an effortless mingling of European, American and Middle Eastern influences.

“The new clip for ‘Thicc’ sees the club-circuit stalwart team up with women and non-binary performers from Perth’s local cultural scenes to deliver a bright, bold and high-energy dose of body-positive visuals for this d-floor banger.”
(RAGE, ABC) [About ‘Thicc’]
“BEXX sounds like a certified showstopper on this track. Such a commanding statement.”
4 / 5 (Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J) [About ‘Thicc’]
“Absolutely owning this.”
4 / 5 (Zan Rowe, Triple J) [About ‘Thicc’]
“all three of these bexx uploads are hi energy pop slices to give you a real boost!”
4 / 5 (Declan Byrne, Triple J)
“BEXX’s music is some of the most exciting we’ve come across in Perth’s last twelve months, let alone in the niche pocket of club-ready dance music she specialises in. She’s a star, and as soon as WA artists begin their descent to the east coast for gigs, everyone else is going to see that too.”
(Pilerats)
‘Don’t Touch Me’ is a boiling-hot, rage-fuelled dance anthem from the Boorloo/Perth-based electronic/dance artist and absolute boss b*tch Project Bexx. Light a match on September 16 alongside the accompanying music video, this one is going to spread like wildfire.
Winner of the WAM award for Best Live Electronic Act 2021, producer, performance artist, DJ and all-round powerhouse that is Project BEXX supported none other than Tame Impala and Pond within only 6 months of launching as a musician. Since then, she and her band have gone on to play to crowds with The Presets, Shockone, Luke Million, Kilter, Cosmos Midnight, Peking Duk, G Flip, Ruel, playing Ice Cream Factory Summer Festival and more, as well as being a highly sought-after act to play raves, parties and other events around WA.
Her first single for 2022 following last year’s badass banger ‘Thicc’, and two collabs called ‘Run This Town’ (with Tina Says) and ‘Together (with SOLSTA), ‘Don’t Touch Me’ is yet another impressive release from this showstopping MC that has already been nominated for WAM award’s Song Of The Year.
‘2, 4, 6, 8, Everything I see, I hate’ is the strong opening lyric for the new single ‘Don’t Touch Me’. With plenty of attitude that implies BEXX has no time for bullsh*t, this song is like bottled anger, shaken up and released in an energetic tirade of fast-paced spoken word vocals delivering their powerful message. AI narration and infectious synth beats make this song a signature crowd-pleasing danceable tune, but one with plenty of substance. Intended to be a shared anthem for anger at systemic oppression, capitalism and mental health, this is a track that listeners can sing along to at the top of their lungs.
Writing the song was a necessary cathartic release from a time when she felt there wasn’t much happiness to be found in the world. Following its creation, BEXX discovered a weight was lifted and she could again start to see the positives in life again. She hopes the song does the same for those who listen.
BEXX elaborates, saying she hopes ‘Don’t Touch Me’ “empowers anyone who listens to it to feel like the master of their own life, and that they can dismantle any systems or situations where they want to see change. It’s all about that POWER, STRENGTH & PASSION baby.”
Accompanying the track is the abstract and ominous music video that explores power and who holds it in society. Following members of the band, they are auctioned off, with their freedoms sold to a group of anonymous gold masked bidders as BEXX notes:
“These masked figures can represent whoever or whatever the viewer sees them as, because really it is just a comment on how there are systems and people in society which control those below them.”
Co-directed with Tay Kaka, with a handful of help from the team of performers, BEXX hopes to inspire and empower people to fight back against these figures in power and reclaim control back over their lives.
Turning heads across the media landscape with that power, strength and passion through her iconic brand of electronic music and impeccable high-energy live performances, Project Bexx has received support from Triple J Unearthed, RAGE, Xpress Mag, Pilerats, AAA Backstage, Scenestr, and more.
This huge anthemic new track from Project BEXX, ‘Don’t Touch Me’ will be unleashed on September 16.

Was there a part of you that was worried we’d forgotten how to club? That the time apart had damaged us socially or made our once favoured, crowded night spots something to fear? Well Groove City have a plan. Their latest single D.I.S.C.O. takes us back to the basics of clubbing. The fundamentals of why we love being out. Whooshing into a phat disco beat with a little french electro influence and some solid gold guitar, the opening lyrics “When did you realise this is the best night of your life? It’s taken me a little longer than I expected.” Set the tone immediately. Reminding us that all of our experiences re-socialising and partying are going to be different. Perhaps this summer will feel like a relief to you, others may be more reluctant but we all have to go at our own pace. Ultimately music is there to make us feel good. Groove City make feel good music as easily as they walk and breath. Honestly though, I’m not sure that they walk anywhere without a strut. The synth topline that comes in during the second chorus reminds us of vintage disco electro acts Space or Yellow Magic Orchestra. The victory lap has awesome adlibs from guest vocalist Ella Keysel who adds a deep femininity to the sound. An absolute celebration of nightlife D.I.S.C.O. reminds us that whenever we’re ready to lose our shit on the dancefloor again, the club will be waiting for us.

Nothing like spending a Tuesday night going to a live gig. To a warm reception, Sydney singer/songwriter Cap Carter opened the evening. An artist who wears his heart in his songs, he sang with such passion and intensity belting out tracks like ‘Relapse’ and ‘Guns’. This is one artist worth seeing.
The full house cheered Teddy Swim’s entrance to audio quotes mentioning his meteoric rise to popularity thanks to YouTube. Casually dressed in a hoodie and sans shoes, he effortlessly delivered a eclectic mix of music, such as the pop infused ‘All That Really Matters’, the dance track ‘Better’ to his famous cover of Shania Twain’s ‘You still the One’ backed by his stellar band. His huge vocal prowess and musical versatility won the crowd over.
Teddy was incredibly humble and appreciative of his rapid rise to fame, numerous times expressing his gratitude to his fans. Somehow, I think this is just the beginning of much bigger things to come.

Following their first new music this year, ‘Bending at the Knee‘, ‘Rotten Sun‘ contains traces of Amyl and The Sniffers, Fontaines D.C. and Parquet Courts, with shades of Placebo – a foundational influence – coming through in an imperious guitar riff that forms the backbone of the song.
Directed by Oscar O’Shea, the visionary behind the band’s excellent ‘Bending at the Knee‘ clip, the ‘Rotten Sun‘ video comprises three distinct one-take scenes stitched together into a short film that leans heavily on religious tropes, opening on frontman Jamie Timony wrapped in a black-headed python in an orchard.
Engineered by Sam Johnson, TNSW is the band’s most sophisticated, philosophical work yet, confirming them as a once-in-a-generation Australian punk proposition. It is not an album that attempts to transcend the punk genre, but one that looks to lift it to its highest form.

This sentiment extends to the music video, where Joji continues “I wanted to film a video for Count To 10 that really highlights where I grew up. As a kid moving from Fiji to the Hills District of Sydney, my family and I had this hope that we were entering into the ‘promised land’ of opportunities. As great as the move was in a lot of ways, the hills also facilitated a lot of hardship for us. It was really cool to film the video in my hometown representing 2156 / 2155 as it’s been a huge part of my story and has shaped a lot of who I am. It’s west but it ain’t western Sydney, but this place is me!”
‘Count To 10‘ is Malani’s latest preview of his rich creative world as Pei, following the recently released ‘Themesong‘ and ‘Honest‘, each embraced across NME, Clash, triple j, Unearthed, Rolling Stone, The Australian, Pilerats, Music Feeds and more. Inspired to express himself narratively and lyrically in ways unlike ever before, Pei’s Pageant is a dialogue with Malani’s cultural and creative identities, propelling his craft through his Fijian identity – one that many have yet to meet. In that way, Pei is Malani’s homecoming. Threading the naivety of infancy with a palpable humility in starting from scratch, Pei’s debut is a gratifying listen in watching someone experience their firsts, for a second time.
Due this October 10 via Broth Records – home to recent impressive debuts from Coconut Cream, Meteor Infant, Morgues, Angeles, Alex Rzyan and more – Pei’s Pageant freely explores a variety of sonic influences from bright, rich production; orchestration that can swing between the exuberant and borderline ambient and country balladry and at the core, there is Pei’s vocals – heartfelt, direct and confident. More than just a passion project turned big with his band The Pageant in tow, Pei steadies for his world debut.
Relocating from London to Sydney, where he had been based since 2016, Joji nestled up inside the home studio of close friend and longtime collaborator Tim Fitz after almost a decade of writing in studios and touring the world. Weaving contemporary indie, pop and rock influences with the memories and influences of his Fijian culture with natural ease, Pei’s Pageant arrives produced alongside Fitz, backing vocals from Hannah Joy (Middle Kids) arrangements from Macie Stewart (Whitney, Ohmme, SZA, Chance the Rapper), mix engineered by Antonia Gauci (Daine, Troye Sivan, Kesha) and mastered by Grammy-nominated Ryan Schwabe (Pussy Riot, Shamir, Oneohtrix Point Never).

A power pop punk trio from London, Ontario, FULL THROTTLE has quickly gained notoriety over the last few months (especially in their hometown). They’ve won a Forest City London Music Award, will be opening for Finger 11 / I Mother Earth this fall, garnered big numbers on Spotify and have released two critically acclaimed tunes “Friday Night”, and “Summertime”. With their influences including acts such as Blink 182, Green Day and Teenage Bottle Rocket – FULL THROTTLE have their eyes on the prize.
Where are you currently based?
I’m in Montréal, Canada!
How did you first start playing music?
I started playing the piano in high school. I was taught the four basic pop chords by one of my high school friends, continued to teach myself and the rest was history.
I’ve been singing since I was in diapers, singing the Caillou theme song on repeat.
What’s been happening recently?
I’ve been working on my debut EP, in and out of the studio with my producer Johan
Maestro. I’ve also been getting some shows ready. I cannot wait to show you all what I’ve been working on.
Your latest single is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
One of my siblings inspired the song actually. They had been going through some hard times and I wanted to help. The song talks about being there for someone you love so much and the extent of how far that love can take you. For the sound I wanted something big, I wanted an anthem-like feel to really rally the fact that this song can take you out of any “Hurricane”.
How did you go about writing Hurricane?
I actually wrote it on zoom during the pandemic, with three collaborators. QSTNMRKS (producer duo) who were in Holland working on the music, while I came up with Melodies and wrote the lyrics with my friend Begonia (artist). The song wrote itself, in under an hour.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
We recorded, produced and mastered the song in July of 2022. Johan Maestro produced and mixed “Hurricane”. He is also working on my EP that will be released before the end of the year.
How did you approach the recording process?
I approached the recording by getting in my zone and really connecting to the song. I had the person the song was dedicated to in my mind, the whole time.
What does this single mean to you?
It means the most. I honestly feel like this song sums up the person I am and the distances I’ll go for the ones I love. I really feel like this song sets the tone for the rest to come. I’m really proud of this single.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’d have to say Lisa LeBlanc and Coldplay!
What do you like to do away from music?
Away from music you can either catch me cooking up a storm in the kitchen or going out to dance with some friends. If not, weekend breakfast out at restaurants is one of my favourite things to do.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?
The release of my first EP and some new shows are set for 2022! I can’t wait!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Poutine Déjeuner from Cochon Dingue, and I love to hangout by the water.

Today, Melbourne alternative hip hop collective FREAKCLUB drop their new single Gobstopper. To celebrate, the group have also announced The Gobstopper Release Party, to take place in Melbourne this October, details below.
Of the new single FREAKCLUB states, “Gobstopper was one of those songs that we just had to make. We were fuelled by a lot of the hunger, angst and uncertainty that comes from trying to make it in music. It was those years of almost opportunities, broken promises and “We’ll keep an eye on what you’re doing”s that inspired us to make this song. There’s no hidden meaning or secret feeling, we really let this song speak for itself. From the grungy-punk inspired vocals to the screeching guitar solo, this song is very much just us being us, and hoping to inspire people to do the same.”

Gobstopper is the first piece of new music since’s the group’s debut EP Bambi Vol.I which received rave reviews from Pilerats who said “As a whole, Bambi. Vol. I does an incredible job in introducing what FREAKCLUB are all about, and we have no doubts that this is just the start” while NME Australia commented with “Echoing similar groups like Odd Future and Brockhampton, the sextet strike with a radiant youthfulness and tight, collaborative musicality”
Named as ‘20 Artists to Watch 22′ by Pilerats, FREAKCLUB are writing songs showcasing their abilities well beyond the years the group has been together. Each new single the band releases represents a different side of FREAKCLUB while still maintaining their core sound, style and freedom of expression.
