Indie-Folk Rock Artist Eimhin Returns With Heartbreaking Single ‘She Met My Eyes’

Previous Support For Eimhin

“I like when Eimhin swirls to life and gets you dizzy.”
(Declan Byrne, Triple J) [About ‘Lately’]

“Eimhin’s lyrics dance along the optimistic tune, delivering honesty and grace while sweeping listeners up in a land of indie-rock intoxication.”
(Blank Street Press)

“Quaint, mystical, charming indie folk that borders on glistening pop melodies”
(Scenestr)

“‘Lately’ is a bright and emotional tune with delicate acoustic guitar work and a rich vocal delivery. It quickly builds into an uplifting indie-rock vibe that is sure to lift your spirits.”
(AAA Backstage)

“The track invokes images of sepia leaves and the smell of petrichor. The mists rise into a gusto with a huge, breathy MCR bridge. A wall of sound conjured up by a swell of the mellotron impedes our path, and our only way out is to listen.”
(Livewire AU) [About ‘Lately’]

Stream ‘She Met My Eyes’

Gold Coast/Yugambeh Country-based artist Eimhin (pronounced Ev-an) is making his highly anticipated return with the delicately poignant ‘She Met My Eyes’, due out on November 9.

With a diverse sonic background informed by his Irish folk heritage, Eimhin spent his teenage years doing musical theatre before ultimately playing in original bands and answering the call of punk rock, hardcore, glam and emo. Now he is starting fresh with an ethereal indie-folk/rock sound that has been winning hearts (and making boys cry).

Challenging the status-quo is high on the artists’ agenda. Taking the lead of Virgin Prunes, David Bowie and more recently Harry Styles, Eimhin is embracing his divine femininity through gender non-conforming fashion and vulnerable songwriting.

Eimhin’s second release titled ‘She Met My Eyes’ follows its stunning predecessor, ‘Lately’, building on an already solid foundation of heartbreaking honesty and musical whimsy. On this track, Eimhin moves tenderly through moments of softness tinged with pangs of regret, closing with an eerie scene of lovers desperately trying to avoid the inevitable end of their relationship.

Eimhin explains that the story behind ‘She Met My Eyes’ comes from his own lived experience:

“It’s about the liminal period in a relationship when you’re still in denial that things are falling apart. Instead of facing the truth you find yourself placating each other, you still say ‘I love you’ but it doesn’t feel the same in your heart. You’re still planning for the future, but that future is no longer a reality, at least not with one another.”

Already weaving his mystical charm through the Australian music landscape, Eimhin has generated buzz at Double J, Blank Street Press, Scenestr, AAA Backstage, Livewire AU and more.

Poetic new song ‘She Met My Eyes’ from Eimhin will be released on November 9, and celebrated with a single launch – details below. Don’t miss it.

Revered electronic duo Vallis Alps, the project of Parissa Tosif and David Ansari, return today with their first new music in five years, the atmospheric ‘Set It Off, Set It Right‘. LISTEN + WATCH HERE.

Evocative of the vibrance and pace of past tracks ‘Oceans‘ and ‘Fading‘, ‘Set It Off, Set It Right‘ affirms the unmistakable sound of Vallis Alps, enhanced with a refined sheen and sonic palette they debut today. Born in the midst of writing trips and recording sessions across Si’ahl / Seattle, Lenape Land / New York, Tongva Land / Los Angeles and Eora / Sydney in 2018-19, ‘Set It Off, Set It Right‘ brings Parissa and David back to their project’s transatlantic routes, completing the song across timezones and Zoom sessions in the course of the pandemic, kicking off a pulsating fresh step in their song-making craft.

Of the release, the duo share “‘Set It Off, Set It Right’ encapsulates the confusion, pain and delight in the breaking points before major life decisions. We built the sonic landscape around handclaps; the sound of hands coming together in the opening seconds of the song felt intimate and primal and ultimately set the tone for a slow crescendo of imperfect instruments – toy pianos, iPhone-memo glockenspiel, detuned synths, yells – culminating into a halftime pressure-release at the end of the song that resolves the tension built throughout.”

Visually, ‘Set It Off, Set It Right‘ enhances those moments of impact, cusps and verges of change, illuminating the tug-o-war of life and partnerships forged along the way. Director, DOP and editor Tanmay Chowdhary (Rolling Stone, Vogue, Nowness). Watch below.

WATCH: ‘Set It Off, Set It Right’ (Official Music Video)

Reflective of the leaps taken in life-altering decisions, and the myriad of emotions that come with following them through, ‘Set It Off, Set It Right‘ is the sonic manifestation of momentum; a mantra to trust the process. Hand-claps stir alongside sparkling synths, springboarded by booming percussion to boost Parissa‘s vocals, shifting in and out of focus as with every deep, faithful breath in oneself, crescendo to finally take flight in a crystalline finish. The result is a soundscape unlike anything yet in the Vallis Alps canon, footnoting a similar balance of intention and passion through all elements of the creative as James Blake, Mount Kimbie or London Grammar.

Led by purposeful production and strong, empowered vocals, ‘Set It Off, Set It Right‘ is inspired by the steps Parissa and David have both taken in beginning their own families, moving abroad and building their creative careers, including Parissa becoming a mother and her admittance and entrance as a practising lawyer and David‘s most recent launch of his ebullient solo project Davey and Podcrushed, the podcast where Penn Badgely, Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari explore the heartbreak, anxiety and self-discovery of being a teenager with notable guests: Amy Schumer, Drew Barrymore, Lisa Kudrow, Mark Ronson and more.

Today’s new release also speaks to the ways in which Parissa and David have had to come apart to get back together again, of the recalibration in the creative and personal relationship. This new single, they reveal, is “an ode to breaking from the past into a better and more truthful future. Of the moment we deliberately chose to switch up and repair the dynamics and direction of our longstanding friendship to be more unified.”

Following on from their much-celebrated debut release, ‘Young‘ (Certified ARIA Gold), which culminated in their self-titled debut EP, the band then shared their 2017 follow-up EP Fable as well as standalone singles ‘So Settled‘ and ‘Oceans‘ which drew international praise; consecutive entries across triple j‘s Hottest 100 from 2015-17; sold out 40 date tours across the US, UK, Europe and Australia alongside appearances across SXSW, The Great Escape, Reading and Leads Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Groovin’ The Moo, Spilt Milk, Listen Out and more; produce remixes for Troye Sivan with ‘EASE‘ and Matt Maeson on ‘Hallucinogenics‘ alongside a cover of The Shins‘ ‘New Slang‘ for triple j’s Live A Version; and garner a discography boasting half a billion streams globally – all achieved as a fiercely independent outfit.

Through ‘Set It Off, Set It Right‘, Vallis Alps pick up where they notably left off.

Bella Deer

by the partae November 9, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

Currently living in Greater Geelong. Grew up here and am living here currently as my Dad isn’t in the best of health, so being near family (and the beach) is great but I really miss Melbourne, especially the local Thornbury music community where I lived in 2019.

How did you first start playing music?

Classical piano lessons were forced upon me as a kid, I called quits many times only to find myself writing my own songs, then wanting singing lessons, and then returning to lessons again. I really do value the skills I obtained from learning classical music. I always played music at high school in an array of different bands and projects.

What’s been happening recently?

It’s been amazing to have been able to ‘get the band back together’ so to speak. During lockdowns I didn’t really play much music, but earlier this year decided I should see if I could find someone local, especially to play my new material. Shoutout to Rael, who has been rocking up to practices these last six months, and of course my amazing bassist and main Tetris packer of 5+ years, Simon. He never lets me down. I really like playing as a three piece, but think we need a live guitarist too.

We also played in Ballarat at Volta on Thursday 3rd Nov and the feedback we got was overwhelmingly positive, which was such a relief! It was a good feeling especially for our first launch show.

Your latest single ‘Bloom’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Artists such as Broods and Lorde really influenced ‘Bloom’ itself. It’s definitely on the more pop side, but I find my songs generally fit across multiple genres, including indie and alt rock. It just depends how I’m feeling!

How did you go about writing Bloom?

‘Bloom’ was born from an impromptu jam, if I recall Simon was actually playing drums and I was on keys. Think this sometimes gets me pumped up a little more than if we were both playing melodic instruments.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Produced and recorded in July 2019 – feels like a lifetime now to be honest with the wonderful Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe).

What or who influenced the concept for the music video?

Video concept was a tricky one; I really wanted to steer away from flowers (this was definitely not what I was going for from the early inception of the song) and there are a few songs with the same title already.

Who did you work with to create the music video?

I sourced a local Geelong company called True South Film and it was directed by the wonderful James Duggan. He was very efficient and I felt really comfortable working with him. I knew from the beginning he was going to come up with something really special from seeing his previous work, as I really struggled with the visual side of things!

Please tell us about the most challenging and rewarding aspects of creating the music video?
I hadn’t made a clip in a really long time, so I felt a little rusty! Iit was a freezing night, and we finished really late. I really love the colours and the vintage lenses they used. Aiden Mair (DOP) is also very talented and could see how much he loves his work.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I saw Hayley Mary live recently in Queenscliff and she blew me away. I already knew how great she was, but I am loving her solo stuff. I may have fangirled a bit at the merch bar. I am also loving a few Italian artists I’d dare say you’ve never heard of (Pinguini Tattici Nucleari/Mahmood); I really want to improve my Italian as I wish to travel (and perform there) as soon as possible as I have friends and family in Milan and in Tuscany. I have to say I am also digging Sam Smith’s new track with Kim Petras.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?

We’ve got a hometown show at the Door Gallery Café on November 19, but I am hanging out to play in Melbourne again, most likely in the new year. Please keep an eye out as I plan to drop another track ready to drop early 2023, so there will be more shows to play then too!

Favourite food and place to hangout?

My favourite all time food is a bowl of gnocchi with a bangin’ ragu. If I could choose anywhere to hang out it would be in Brisbane with my Brisbane babes Bri and Amelia whom I met at Bigsound in 2017 in an elevator to the then Rooftop bar 11. I’m really glad I took that wrong turn or the friendship may not have ever occurred!!!!

jnr.

by the partae November 8, 2022
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?

I’m based in Eora (Sydney) and work out of my studio in Marrickville.

How did you first start playing music?

I started learning piano when I was around 8 and would sing and play old Billy Joel and Elton John songs. I picked up guitar a bit later and started playing in rock bands which really solidified the passion. I haven’t really stopped since.

What’s been happening recently?
Too much! I released my last single ‘A Friend’ at the end of September. Then I had to figure out how to do my live shows almost immediately after the release, and did my first two shows under the jnr. name. And all that time I was finishing off this next single and working with other artists. It’s been a pretty hectic end to the year.

What or who influenced the sound and songwriting for your latest single ‘Say (Light Me Up)’?
I wanted this one to be introspective but uplifting – I love that push and pull between emotions in music. I was listening to a lot of LANY at the time and I think that really shows in the track’s aesthetic. Thematically, I was in a really troubled place at the time and needed to get it out. It’s hard writing music about people you’re close with because they’re gonna know what it’s about as soon as they hear it. But it doesn’t feel authentic to write about topics that aren’t playing on my mind at the time. This feels like a snapshot of where I was at that time.

How did you go about writing Say (Light Me Up)?
It took a few drafts and structure changes to get to where it is. It’s all based around that pad in the intro, this weird blippy synth and big 80’s drums. The vocals went through a few melody drafts but once I found the right fit I knew instantly.

Where did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
I started producing this one at home – I’ve got a little setup in the living room. And I just kept going between home and my studio space (Casa Studios) to finish off the prod. After I finished the production I had a few sessions at Studios 301 with Nico Mendoza (the king) to do the mix and master. He made this song exactly what it needed to be and I couldn’t be happier.

How did you approach the recording process?
I produce alone, so the recording process is very introspective and I get to get really deep into all the fine details with essentially no time restraints. I recorded this mainly in the box, and used Omnisphere for most of the synths.

This track has taken a new direction from your past releases, how did this come about?
I rarely ever write a straight-ahead ‘pop’ song – it’s always influenced by other weird things that I’m into at the time. But I wanted to challenge myself and do something completely within the genre. Because I love artists like joan, Nightly, Lauv, Conan Gray – they’re all just making really well-written and well-produced bangers. So I focussed a lot on the songwriting and making the production as clean as possible, while still keeping it authentic. It still sits in the same world as ‘A Friend’ even though I’m doing something a bit different.

Please tell us about the video, aesthetic of the jnr. brand and the people behind it:
It was really spur of the moment. Me and Zoë usually sit down and talk about what we see when we listen to the song and go from there. We wanted a vintage vibe because the song has kind of a nostalgic feel to it. So we roped in Myles Carroll who is a gun on the Super 8 Camera and got these beautiful shots at sunrise. There’s not really a story to it, we wanted it to look more like a home movie.

You work with your partner Zoë, how has this been?
It’s so easy. She gets my vision and always has ideas on top of mine that bring it to the next level. I’m a very visual person, but find it hard to explain what I see in my head (I do that better with sound). So I really trust her with the jnr. brand; my aesthetic is definitely a blend of both of us.

Please tell us about your relationship with the Sydney music scene and the artists that you love:
Sydney is coming up! There are so many underground artists and events happening that really excite me. Everytime I go out I see more and more people that are making incredible art and are contributing massively to the culture. I think it’s only up from here, there’s a lot to be excited about.

You work as a producer and topliner outside of jnr. what do you get up to?
I do a bit of everything. I love melody so much that when I’m producing I usually help out with the topline as well. But I’ve been working mainly with artists I meet online or through other people. Most recently, I co-produced and co-wrote Corrj’s latest single ‘Lie To Me’, which is a 00’s RnB-trap song (catch me on the ad libs as well). When there’s less pressure on me as a vocalist to perform in the studio I get to really dig into the production and experiment with new sounds that may not necessarily work for jnr.

How did you get into producing?
Accidentally! I was on a Zoom writing camp in lockdown as a topliner. The producer in the session asked if I produced as well and I said “Yeah, kinda.” So he left the call and let me drive the session. I had to learn on the fly and hope for the best haha. It was pretty daunting but I can’t thank him enough for it. The artist in that session became a really good friend of mine and we’re working on a single for next year!

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?
The rest of the year is going to be finishing off songs that I want to put out next year, and working with more people outside of my circle. Lots to expect.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Harry’s House and Being Funny In A Foreign Language have been on rotation.

Odds & Ends

by the partae November 7, 2022
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
We’re four mates living in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) in Aotearoa (New Zealand). We love it here!

How did you first start playing music?

Individually we all have roots in music here and there. Some of us started playing music before having a full set of teeth, and some of us started a little later. We all met while studying music at university and formed a band there; Some of our stuff is still recorded there and we love coming back to our roots.

What’s been happening recently?

A LOT of things have been happening. Let’s see, we released Something Else in April which got some fantastic radio play around the country. We threw that single a release party at the Tuning Fork and had our biggest headline show yet. Then we jumped on tour with our mates Skram from Wellington, to celebrate their fresh album. We only just wrapped up the tour when we dived straight back in the studio to record this new single Better Days. That’s now been mixed and mastered and we’re sending it around Australia and Aotearoa to make sure it lands in the right ears.

We’re putting on a release gig at the Tuning Fork with some killer support acts to celebrate this new single on November 19 so our brainspace is very occupied by all the logistics around the release.

Your latest single ‘Better Days’ will be released on the 18th of November 2022, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
It’s hard to say what influenced the songwriting, Koen wrote the song back in 2017 or so, but it’s a song about getting off your ass and finding your happy place. The sound, however, is a bit more recent because we redid the entire recording of the single. We’ve been playing a cover of the iconic Naive by The Kooks on tour and there’s definitely a bit of The Kooks you can hear in the song, sonically.

How did you go about writing Better Days?
Writing the song was fairly easy, I (Koen) came up with the chords and structure of the song and then I got a really great feeling from the music alone. I then wrote the lyrics pretty easily, keeping road trips with my close mate Zac in mind while writing the song, and summing up great times we’ve had surfing, spearfishing, rock climbing and camping together.
Summer is just around the corner so It’s a great nudge for everyone who pays attention to the lyrics to get outside and take in the beautiful world we live in.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Straight out of the tour with Skram we dove into the studio to record the Drums for Better Days. At this point we already had pretty decent guide tracks to give our drummer, Max Earnshaw, a really good energetic mix in the headphones, with the idea that it would make Max play more energetic as well. We then made those drums sound even better with some nice plugins and even nicer outboard hardware, and Jonathan Meyer tracked the bass simply directly into the pre-amps. After that, guitarist and singer Koen Aldershof layered about 4 different guitar parts over multiple tracks, to get that popular indie-pop-rock sound, similar to Half-Alive, Grizfolk, Great Gable, The Happy Fits; the list is endless. The gang vocals in the chorus are what really makes this song stand out for us. It was quite fun, we asked our Instagram following if anyone wanted to sing along on our new single and we had an overwhelming response. We had a lot of musical and non-musical friends and followers sing along to the chorus lyrics “Higher and higher and higher” which created this huge wall-of-sound kind of vocal effect. It really sounds like there’s a small army of people singing and shouting the key song lyrics. Phew, so the song is done, recorded anyway, and in only 3 weeks. At this point we sent the song off to our previous lead guitarist and good friend Luan Meaker who mixed the song beautifully. Chris Chetland from Kog Studios, (who’s worked with some ridiculously amazing artists) mastered the single and in our opinion, the song is one of the best ones we’ve ever produced.

How did you approach the recording process?

The recording of Better Days actually came about super quickly. We were a little pressed for time, not to mention exhausted, coming out of the tour across the North Island if we wanted to push a single out before the end of the year. We thought, it’s better to release it in November because as soon as December rolls around, nobody is going to listen to anything but Mariah Carey’s jingle bells. So we got stuck in, the way we always do, starting with drums first. If anything, we put less pressure on this single than we have done for previous tunes and I think it made for a really easy and relaxed way of getting the recording done.

What does Better Days mean to you?
The message behind Better Days is to get off your ass and spend some time appreciating the world we find ourselves in. The song is tailored to everyone who has dreamed of doing THAT thing. Whether it’s sky diving over Dubai, backpacking through south-east Asia, Sailing around the world, or another seemingly out-of-reach fantasy, this song is the motivation. The motivation to quit a job you don’t like, to change careers if you don’t like where you’re at, to chase a dream, to find yourself in your happy place. The lyrics in the song, “look for better days”, are meant to make you look within yourself and ask those big questions; Am I happy? Am I where I want to be? Am I on the right track? And while these can be tedious and nagging questions to ask yourself, you are the only person who can admit that you’d rather be somewhere else.
Happiness is important and there’s only one way to find it, by getting of your ass and looking for it.

What’s planned for 2023?
More music and more shows are a must. We love making music and we love playing it to people even more. We’ve speculated about jumping across the water and visiting our friends over in Australia, but at this point, nothing is confirmed or concrete. We have locked in a few festivals that we’ll be announcing soon so follow us on social media to stay up to date.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Ugh so many, too many amazing artists! I try to spin my Release Radar on Spotify every Friday as well as my Discover Weekly playlist. I find some true gems in there, like the new album from The 1975, Spacey Jane, and releases from The Rions, The Murlocs and Gang of Youths. But like I said, the list is endless.

Favourite food and place to hangout?
Favourite food, hahaha, what a random question. I mean, Lasagna always slaps, although you can’t beat a good plate of sushi. The best meal would be a potluck to nibble on a bunch of different flavours and cuisines and hang out with mates. Speaking of hanging out, anyone who hasn’t heard of Movespace needs to head over to their socials and follow them. It’s definitely our favourite place to hang out! It’s a creative space with room for co-working during the day but hosts gigs in the evening, both inside and on their rooftop venue. They’ve recently built a recording studio with the most incredible vibe and it’s THE space to meet cool like-minded people.Of course, we can’t go past our favourite venue, The Tuning Fork! It’s THE place to catch some of the up-and-coming kiwi acts and establishing overseas acts. We’re playing our second show at the Tuning Fork on November 19th and we can’t wait to be back on that beautiful stage!

SUM 41 ANNOUNCE INTIMATE MELBOURNE CLUB SHOW WITH SPECIAL GUESTS TEENAGE JOANS TERRA TOURING IN DECEMBER WITH THE OFFSPRING

by the partae November 7, 2022
written by the partae

Want some more Sum 41 in 2022? Along with joining The Offspring on the sold out national Australian tour this December, the Canadian punk rock juggernauts are thrilled to announce an intimate club show at Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on Tuesday 6 December.

Hitting Australia next month alongside the equally formidable punk lords The Offspring, Sum 41 will treat Melbourne fans to a special headline show while they’re down under, with Adelaide duo Teenage Joans and Melbourne alt-rockers Terra set to raise the roof at the Northcote alongside the Ontario icons.

Having sold over 15 million records worldwide and scoring a Grammy Award nomination, two Juno Awards, a Kerrang! Award and multiple Alternative Press Awards in their storied career, Sum 41 are undeniably one of the most prolific and hard-working live acts. From the ongoing endurance of their breakout singles Fat Lip, In Too Deep and Motivation to their reputation for performing (pre-COVID) hundreds of times per year, it’s little wonder Sum 41 have been routinely hailed as one of Canada’s most successful and exciting exports; and absence has only made the heart grow fonder, with the band bringing their bigger and better than ever before live prowess down under to close out 2022.

Also hailing back to high school days, Adelaide two-piece Teenage Joans took out the triple j Unearthed High crown back in 2020, with the duo going on to release a continuous flow of beloved tunes, appear onstage at festivals including Summer Sounds, Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Yours & Owls Festival, while also touring alongside the likes of Violent Soho, Ruby Fields, The Hard Aches, Clowns and many others.

Beginning life in high school before forays into busking and YouTube covers, a pop rock cover of Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles cemented the ongoing and resounding adoration for Melbourne five-piece Terra. Since then, the group have gone on to showcase their fresh and immersive take on the alternative and pop-rock realms, with their 2022 EP Reverie firmly flexing the band’s sonic diversity and sharpened songwriting chops.

THEBARTON THEATRE, ADELAIDE

The multi platinum GRAMMY® Award-winning Deftones are an influential alternative presence. The quintet’s career spans three platinum albums with over 10 million records sold worldwide.

They landed their first #1 Aria chart debut with their 2016 release Gore and in 2018 they curated, launched, presented, and headlined their own festival, Dia De Los Deftones. Selling out both installments to date, the eclectic lineups hosted everyone from Future and CHVRCHES to Gojira and Megan Thee Stallion. In 2020, Deftones continued their trailblazing arc as an alternative leader with their ninth full-length album, Ohms which debuted at #3 on the Aria album chart and a thrilling full-album remix of White Pony.

GOJIRA
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS LACUNA COIL
TUESDAY 29 NOVEMBER – ROUNDHOUSE, SYDNEY
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – FORUM THEATRE, MELBOURNE
TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER – EATONS HILL HOTEL, BRISBANE

Grammy nominated French heavy metal quartet Gojira have risen from the utmost obscurity during the first half of their career to widespread global recognition in the second. Combining elements of thrash, death, math, groove, progressive, and post-metal with philosophical and environment-themed lyrics. They have made their mark as one of the paramount metal bands of this generation.Joining them as special guests are Italian alt metal superstars Lacuna Coil.

Lacuna Coil’s spirited and lauded live performances have also earned them a solid reputation for a band that not only delivers night in/night out, but also a band whose stage performance reverberates long after the show is over. Lacuna Coil’s heartfelt, heavy, melodic, and rhythmic metal—a hybrid of gothic, groove, and alternative—has created a rabid worldwide following.

MILLENCOLIN

WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – 170 RUSSELL, MELBOURNE
MONDAY 5 DECEMBER – THE TIVOLI, BRISBANE

The much loved favourite seminal Swedish skate-punk band Millencolin promise to deliver shows you won’t forget. They’ll be performing all of their hits from across their entire catalogue.

It’s clear the band members are just as unified as they were when they formed Millencolin, roughly 30 years, nine albums and over 2,000 live shows ago. “We’re a band truly formed from respect and understanding for each other and our passion for rock music,” explains vocalist/bassist Nikola Sarcevic. “If you ask us, this is the best job in the world!”

SOULFLY

THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – CROXTON BANDROOM, MELBOURNE
TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER – MANNING BAR, SYDNEY

At the dawn of the new millennium, Rolling Stone declared, “Soulfly seem built to last.” More than two decades, countless  worldwide tours, and a dozen albums later, that prophecy rings true.

Underground icon, extreme metal trailblazer, third world warrior, and leader of a diverse and dedicated tribe, Max Cavalera not only survives but thrives, blasting out riff after killer riff.

Soulfly’s savage anthems of aggression push extreme music to its bludgeoning limits while injecting it with brilliant moments of trippy nuance and dissonance. Like all innovative musical heroes, Max makes anthems for the people. Soulfly is a celebration of family and legacy. Whatever Max Cavalera hammers out on the bridges of his four-string guitars, it always sets souls free.

Their Australian shows will feature Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares as a special guest.
SLEEPING WITH SIRENS
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS THE BEAUTIFUL MONUMENT & BAD/LOVE
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – THE GOV, ADELAIDE
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – MAX WATTS, MELBOURNE
TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER – THE TRIFFID, BRISBANE

Since emerging in 2010, Sleeping With Sirens have tested the boundaries of rock by walking a tightrope between pop, punk, metal, hardcore, electronic, acoustic, and even a little R&B. This high-wire balancing act attracted a faithful fan base known as “Strays,” generated global album sales in excess of 1.5 million, ignited over half-a-billion streams, and achieved a trio of gold-selling singles.

They’ve collaborated with MGK on Alone and Pierce the Veil on the gold-certified King For A Day. Beyond selling out shows worldwide and receiving acclaim from The New York Times, Alternative Press crowned them “Artist of the Year” at the Alternative Press Music Awards, proclaimed “Kick Me” the 2015 “Song of the Year”, and featured them as cover stars a whopping seven times.

Joining Sleeping With Sirens as special guests are Melbourne’s The Beautiful Monument and emotive rock group Bad/Love.
JINJER
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS EARTH CALLER & FUTURE STATIC
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – MANNING BAR, SYDNEY
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – CORNER HOTEL, MELBOURNE

Through their relentless hard work, non-stop touring and critically acclaimed /chart-breaking releases gaining over 250M streams/views across all platforms globally – JINJER are truly one of modern metal’s hottest and most exciting bands around today. The band has become synonymous with doing things their own way and breaking every rule in the Heavy Metal handbook- which they made loudly clear on their hugely successful fourth studio album: WALLFLOWERS.

In less than12 years, the four-piece Progressive Groove metal wrecking machine has carved their very own place in the Metal landscape. Hailing from Donetsk but now based in Kiev, this Ukrainian musical oddity formed in 2009 but consider the official start of the band with the addition of the incredible vocalist and Femme Fatale Tatiana Shmayluk in 2010.

They’ll be supported by Melbourne’s metalcore ground Earth Caller and Melbourne quintet Future Static who create an exhilarating synthesis of alternative, melodic, and progressive to shape a unique brand of emotional heavy music which is unlike any other.

THE STORY SO FAR
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS AWOL
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – STAY GOLD, MELBOURNE
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – SOOKI LOUNGE, BELGRAVE

Californian rockers The Story So Far have been on an absolute tear since their 2018 opus Proper Dose, selling out countless headline tours and receiving praises from fans and critics across the globe.

Joining them at these intimate shows are special guests AWOL.

ELECTRIC CALLBOY
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS PALEDUSK & DREGG (MELB) &
CLAY J GLADSTONE (SYD)
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – MAX WATTS, MELBOURNE
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – FACTORY THEATRE, SYDNEY

As diverse and as electrifying as their name, Electric Callboy weld modern trap with alt rock, pop punk and beyond into an exhilarating musical experience. Their latest release TEKKNO debuted at #1 on the German album charts. It journeys between comedy, powerful pop, and trancecore, as well as oscillating between synthy pop and hard-hitting circle pit anthems with extreme ease.

The band’s first single with singer Nico Sallach, Hypa Hypa, reached over 60 million streams in an extremely short space of time, with the track becoming the band’s biggest success story so far. The band’s Youtube channel has over 182 million total views and counting.

Electric Callboy are known for their ecstatic live shows and will be performing in Australia for the very first time.

Supporting them as special guests are Japan’s most exciting heavy acts Paledusk and Melbourne’s DREGG. Clay J Gladstone will be supporting them in Sydney.

3OH!3

THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – STAY GOLD, MELBOURNE

The dynamic duo Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte aka 3OH!3 have been rocking sold out venues, amphitheaters, and college campuses around the world since 2018.

Your boys have cemented their sound with global hits like Don’t Trust Me, STARSTRUKK (feat. Katy Perry), & My First Kiss (feat. Kesha). Having not released any music as 3OH!3 since 2016, Sean and Nat have written and produced hits for other artists such as Maroon 5’s Love Somebody, MAX’s Lights Down Low, Ariana Grande’s Tattooed Heart, and Kesha’s Blah Blah Blah.

They continued to play in front of thousands of fans while celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their RIAA certified Gold album WANT. in 2020, the itch of wanting to get back in the studio to make music that was fun, inclusive, edgy, weird and – most importantly – their own, proved to be an inevitable reality. And 3OH!3 is back with new music with more to come.

JXDN

TUESDAY 29 NOVEMBER – OXFORD ART FACTORY, SYDNEY
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB, MELBOURNE

Defying the rules with style and substance, jxdn bends and breaks the boundaries as he moves between subcultures in a very genuine way to position himself as a new kind of rockstar.

Generating 15 million streams within a month and becoming the first artist signed to Travis Barker’s DTA Records, the 19-year-old genre breaker presents a signature style on a series of 2020 releases.

In 2018, he took control and developed a presence online through a consistent stream of engaging and clever content. He quietly exploded on Tik Tok, attracting 5.8 million followers and 202.3 million likes. After witnessing an arena show by the late Juice WRLD, he dove headfirst into music and unleashed his independent debut single Comatose. The track has since racked up over 20 million streams across platforms and broken into over 38 Global Viral Charts to date. Upon hearing it, Barker immediately signed him to DTA Records. Now, jxdn takes flight on the single Angels & Demons.

NOVA TWINS
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS BLOOD COMMAND
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – CROWBAR, SYDNEY

Nova Twins are the zeitgeist-capturing polymath pioneers that our times have been waiting for. Whether pushing the MOBO Awards to create a category for POC alt. acts, to teaming up with No Music On A Dead Planet and Oxfam to play for environmental change, working with Dr. Martens to raise money for The Black Curriculum or aiming to inspire a new wave of young, diverse talent, Amy Love and Georgia South are much more than one of the UK’s most exciting bands – they are changemakers and they have battled through the old guard of rock’s narrow-minded expectations.

Rage Against The Machine icon Tom Morello dubbed them “an incredible band who deserve to be huge” as well as inviting them on tour with Prophets Of Rage. Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes called them one of his “favourite new bands” before having them collaborate on song ‘1×1’ from 2020’s UK No.1 album ‘POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR’.

There’s no band out there quite like Nova Twins. If more artists blazed a trail like this, we’d be celebrating a lot more difference, rather than craving what’s safe and similar. From being “shunned” when they arrived on the scene, now Nova Twins are leading a game all of their own. Now, there are no rules.

Joining them as special guests are Blood Command. Yngve Andersen and Australia’s Nikki Brumen live every moment in the mantra ‘Blood Command against the world’ which guides Bergen, Norway’s “death pop” quintet spiritually and sonically, and which forms the soul of their fourth full-length record, Praise Armageddonism.

 GOOD THINGS FESTIVAL LINE UP:

The festival will take place on Saturday 25 March from 12noon, with two stages and a first announcement line-up that boasts Thelma Plum, Gretta Ray, Electric Fields, Clews, and Brisbane based Clea, alongside local favourites Blues Arcadia and a stack of fresh acts like bogan-funksters Playlunch and indie rockers Eastbound Buzz and Tommy Gun.

“We are thrilled with this first announcement line up and with limited ticket numbers to this boutique event, we are pretty excited to get tickets on sale.” says Festival Director Alice Jones.

The weeks ahead will see the announcement of further OFFBEAT events that will form part of the Offbeat Music Festival weekend running from Friday 24 March, through to Sunday 26 March in various locations throughout the village of Eumundi.

Chart-topping artist Joji’s highly-anticipated new album SMITHEREENS is out today via longtime label 88rising, following his recent nomination in the 2022 ARIA Awards ‘Song Of The Year’ for ‘Glimpse Of Us‘. LISTEN TO SMITHEREENS HERE.

SMITHEREENS arrives ahead of Joji‘s upcoming local appearances at Laneway Festival, touring across Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth this February alongside Haim, Phoebe Bridgers, Fred Again.. and more. All tickets are on sale now and AVAILABLE HERE.

SMITHEREENS is Joji’s first full-length release since Nectar in 2020, which marked his debut ARIA #1 Album, 88rising‘s first artist to land a #1 Album in Australia and the most streamed album on Spotify globally on the week of release.

With today’s new release, he delivers his characteristically melancholic yet powerful vocals on tracks like ‘Die For You‘, a sober, morning-after remembrance of a former love. The track is accompanied by a visual directed by the creative studio Actual Objects compiled entirely from stock footage.

SIDE A of the album heralds a mature sonic direction for Joji through wistful and contemplative ballads accompanied by lush production that blooms within each song. SIDE B, largely produced by Joji himself, digs deeper into the lo-fi and off-kilter sounds that hark back to his experimental beginnings as an artist.

Since its release in June, the album’s debut single, ‘Glimpse of Us’, reached the #9 spot on Mediabase’s Top 40 chart as his first-ever top 40 radio record. The song received an RIAA platinum certification in the US, Australia and Canada with over 784 million global streams to date and is Joji’s highest-ever Billboard Top 100, peaking at #8. It also made significant debuts on Billboard’s Top Streaming Songs and Global 200 charts and remained in the Top 3 on the Spotify Global and U.S. charts for over a month.

‘Glimpse of Us‘ is nominated in the 2022 ARIA Awards ‘Song of the Year’ category and its Dan Streit-directed video won ‘Best Editing’ at the UK Music Video Awards. ‘YUKON (INTERLUDE)‘, the following single off the record, saw similar success and praise for its psychedelic and mind-bending music video directed by the visionary duo and longtime collaborators BRTHR (pinkpantheress, Lana Del Rey, The Weekend).

Kaskade Surprises with Underground Hard Dance Single Release “Dance With Me” In Collaboration with Dutch Talent Justus

by the partae November 5, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: Kaskade, Justus
Title: Dance With Me
Label: Arkade

Download / Stream

Kaskade is back to flex his underground style with his track “Dance With Me,” a collaboration with Dutch up-and-comer Justus. “Dance With Me” features minimal but heart-pounding bass and dynamic, hollow synths spiced with a catchy vocal hook, all in all, making for a record that’s simply meant for playing in dark warehouses and clubs. As a longtime veteran and icon in electronic music, Kaskade continuously evolves his sound and explores previously untrodden paths, proving again and again that he’s staying on top.

As a household name in electronic music for nearly two decades, Kaskade needs no introduction. His list of achievements is a mile long: 12 studio albums, 7 GRAMMY nominations, the first solo electronic dance artist to sell out both Navy Pier in Chicago and the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the first DJ to ever secure a Las Vegas residency, and the first electronic artist to headline Coachella. Having worked on collaborations with, e.g., Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, and Meghan Trainor, he has the unique talent of creating his signature sound in any genre. Additionally, he has been one of the electronic artists leading the charge into the gaming world and, to date, is the only musician to conceptualize and create an entire season of music for video game giant Rocket League. In 2021, Kaskade came out of quarantine swinging as the first-ever solo headlining musician to sell out and perform for a public event at LA‘s SoFi Stadium. Most recently, in 2022, he teamed up with deadmau5 to form Kx5. Kaskade‘s influence on dance music has shaped the culture for generations of listeners, continuing to wow longtime and new fans alike with every new release.

At just 22, rising Dutch star Justus looks set to have the world at his feet. The talented music producer and DJ has been touted by the likes of Tiësto, David Guetta, MORTEN, Afrojack, DVBBS, W&W, Steve Aoki, and many more. With his productions winning him rave support from titanic names like Tiësto, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, and more, it came as no surprise to fans and industry tastemakers alike when Spinnin’ Records confirmed their exclusive deal with Justus. The signing was yet another stamp of confirmation, one more indication that Justus is on a clear trajectory to the top. As his sound starts to naturally mature and develop, Justus is absolutely hitting his stride as a producer and a performer, diving into a new vein of rhythm and groove that sits somewhere in the space between Tiësto-style Trance and Amelie Lens‘s brand of Techno. With much, much more in the pipeline for 2022, it surely is an exciting time for fans of this talented Dutch youngster.

Nicky Romero and Afrojack Collaborate For The First Time On Party-Ready House Single “Back To Where We Started”

by the partae November 5, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: Nicky Romero, Afrojack
Title: Back To Where We Started
Label: Protocol Recordings

Download / Stream

Two Dutch electronic music powerhouses join forces in the form of Nicky Romero and Afrojack‘s new track “Back To Where We Started.” The release seamlessly fuses both Romero‘s and Afrojack‘s styles, making for a banger of a track with elements of big room and progressive house. “Back To Where We Started” opens with energetic beats reminiscent of EDM‘s heyday in the aughts, and it becomes clear that veteran fans and new ones alike will be served a dose of nostalgia. It climbs into a breakdown that builds up heavy anticipation before a hard-hitting drop that’s simply meant for the festival or club scene. This is the very first time that Nicky Romero and Afrojack have collaborated after a long history of remixing each other’s works, such as Romero‘s remixes of Afrojack‘s “One More Day” and “Hero,” and Afrojack‘s interpretations of Nicky‘s “Okay” and “Rise.” This time, “Back To Where We Started” was created for the opening of their “Two Is One” b2b set during ADE‘s Amsterdam Music Festival, and both have played the record in several sets already around the world. We’re hoping that this will be one of many collaborations between these two.

“After many years of friendship and remix work back and forth on each other’s imprints, it was time to finally level up in the form of our first official collaboration ever. Super happy we found a way to blend both styles into one hybrid club tune.” – Nicky Romero

“Nicky and I have been friends and worked together for many years, and we had a great time finally making our first official collaboration and performing it together during our back-to-back set at AMF this year!” – Afrojack

Nicky Romero

After taking the world by storm with early hits such as “Legacy” with Krewella and the #1 single “I Could Be The One” with Avicii, Nicky Romero quickly proved that his talent is ever-evolving and here to stay. After launching his Protocol Recordings imprint in 2012, the renowned performer, producer, and label head continued his personal successes with a string of high-profile releases, ranging from collaborations with Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, Timmy Trumpet and Steve Aoki to remixes for the likes of Robin Schulz, Kygo, Rita Ora, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, Jess Glynne and more. While showcasing his label’s roster via his weekly Protocol Radio show, Nicky Romero continues to innovate and evolve, and with his annual “Nicky Romero & Friends” ADE showcase and the launch of Monocule alter-ego, he keeps proving his ability to turn into gold everything he touches.

Afrojack

As one of the most innovative and sought-after artists, GRAMMY Award-winning producer and electronic dance music icon Afrojack continues to shatter boundaries that push music in bold new directions. Since making his breakthrough with the multi-platinum-selling single ‘Take Over Control‘, the Dutch-born musician has lent his production skills to tracks that bend genres and laid the foundation for major hits for artists such as Beyoncé, Pitbull, Will.i.am, and more. In the last few years, Afrojack was named one of the 50 Most Important People in EDM by Rolling Stone and placed on the Forbes ’30 Under 30′ music list. In 2010, he was one of the first DJs to secure a Las Vegas residency and continues to entertain global audiences as a headlining resident artist for the Hakkasan group. In 2010, he won his first GRAMMY award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remix of David Guetta & Madonna‘s song ‘Revolver.’ In 2011, he nabbed two more GRAMMY Nominations for Best Rap Song for his part in Chris Brown‘s “Look At Me Now” and for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remix of Leona Lewis & Avicii‘s ‘Collide‘. Afrojack travels the world performing at the biggest clubs/festivals while producing new music with his label Wall Recordings. In 2020, his song “All Night” (feat. Ally Brooke) reached number 1 on the US dance radio chart through amassing an impressive 40+ million streams to date. His most recent worldwide hits, such as “Anywhere With You” with Lucas & Steve and DubVision and “Up All Night” with Hard Lights and VINAI, add to an impressive repertoire spanning over a decade as a global performer and multi-platinum selling artist. In 2021, Afrojack received his fourth GRAMMY nomination, this time for Best Dance/Electronic Recording for his inspiring dance-pop crossover Summer song “Hero” with David Guetta.

Artists: Ofenbach, R3HAB
Title: Ain’t Got No Worries
Label: Warner Music

French superstar duo Ofenbach teamed up with multi-platinum R3HAB to create a feel-good, dance-pop record – “Ain’t Got No Worries.” Sitting sonically on the crossover of the two genres, the new release showcases both Ofenbach‘s melodic sound and R3HAB‘s dynamic and lively production style. Opening with harmonious melodies and accompanying dreamy vocals, the track then gets a dose of a deep and organic bassline. Ofenbach and R3HAB build up the energy into a groovy drop that’s perfect for the premise of having a good time even if things are going wrong in a part of your life. “Ain’t Got No Worries” follows Ofenbach‘s previous hits from 2022 including “4U,” “Let Me Know,” and on R3HAB‘s side – “One Last Time” with VIZE, “Weekend On A Tuesday” with Laidback Luke and “Worlds On Fire” with Afrojack, and more.

Ofenbach

Ofenbach is today the most streamed French duo/band in the world. With 2 Diamond, 22 Platinum, and 21 Gold certifications, they’re still young and at the beginning of what is going to be a long and successful career, with already more than 2,5B streams and 500k followers on Youtube. These are the incredible numbers that sum up the Parisian dance duo Ofenbach. Being on stage is their playground and touring the world is their day-to-day lifestyle. They’ve already performed more than 250 shows with 3 European tours, 2 US tours, and 1 Asian tour. In 2022, after a +50 dates summer tour, their collaborations like “Ain’t Got No Worries” are indicative of their dynamic style and willingness to break genre boundaries.

R3HAB

Multi-Platinum DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the past fifteen years. From his breakthrough remixes for Rihanna, Drake, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, to anthems such as Platinum-certified “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” to his collaborations with the likes of Ava Max, ZAYN, Luis Fonsi, Sean Paul, and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most forward-thinking artists in the game. His work has collected over 8B streams to date, including 1.1B in 2021 alone. R3HAB founded his label CYB3RPVNK in 2016, which has passed 4B streams across platforms since its inception. He is Spotify’s Most Discovered Artist, one of Spotify’s top 200 most streamed artists, ranked #13 on prestigious DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs chart, and has earned over 70 Gold and Platinum certificates. On top of that, he performed at the world’s top festivals, such as EDC, Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, Balaton Sound, Coachella, Summer Sonic Festival, DWP Jakarta. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, R3HAB has earned his place as a household name in dance music.
