DJ SAMMY, Amelie Larsen & Lorena Dale – Never Be Like You

by the partae May 8, 2023
written by the partae

DJ Sammy, music icon with more than 20 million records sold, is back with the remake of one of the most influential dance tracks of the last decade: “Never Be Like You”. Australian musician Flume’s chart hit featuring Canadian artist Kai was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s top 30 songs of 2016. “The pop realization of the twisted techno mutations of top acts like Flying Lotus, Rustie and Arca. “Never Be Like You” creeps like Justin Timberlake’s “My Love,” caught in a parade of sparkling, stuttering robotics,” the magazine wrote. Now DJ Sammy has given the Future Bass hit an absolutely fresh look and brought on board DJ newcomer Amelie Larsen, as well as the beautiful, soulful vocals of the insanely talented Australian singer Lorena Dale.

Fans describe Lorena Dale’s voice as sensual and powerful – full of emotion, passion and soul. They say her music is catchy and thought provoking. It creates a mood that “calms your soul and lifts your spirits.” Australian soul singer Lorena Dale has long established herself on the London live music scene. With influences from Sade, Amy Winehouse, India Arie and Aretha Franklin, Lorena’s sound can be described as timeless, soulful Sophisti-Pop. With an impressive career as a session singer that has taken her to stages around the world, at festivals and in major live music arenas such as the MGM Grand (Las Vegas) or the O2 Academy (Glasgow), Lorena now takes her combined experience to focus on her solo career. Her mission is to connect people through music and encourage them to live their best and brightest life.

In a new project, Lorena Dale has now lent her voice to DJ Sammy for his new hit “Never Be Like You”. DJ Sammy has created a beautiful melody that combines bounce, beat and beautiful vocals. Whether played at sunrise or sundowner, this new house anthem captures the party spirit at its peak and brings back warm memories of endless summer nights. A perfect foretaste with growing anticipation for the 2023 summer season.

Amelie Larsen is known for her impressive and emotional sets, which she creates herself with a lot of passion. From deep-rooted house sets to powerful, exciting EDM sets, she offers a variety of different styles and energy levels, which she always combines with her own appearance. With a special flair for groovy and excellent sounds and heart-rending singing, she delivers club music from the beginning to the end of her sets. As a resident DJ at Nachtsalon Marburg, her path led her to a guest set with 2 elements at Tanit Ibiza, Vanilla Beach Ibiza and the White Pearl Mountain Days Saalbach-Hinterglemm. She was discovered by the two MyClubroom label owners DJ Sammy and Oliver Franke, who took her into management. Now, with DJ Sammy’s “Never Be Like You”, Amelie’s first featuring production will be released, which will take her to the festival stages of Spring Break Croatia, AIRBEAT ONE and BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME in 2023.

Recognized around the world as one of the most influential DJs of all time, he is also responsible for one of the most recognizable dance tracks of all time. DJ Sammy continues to create amazing music and collaborates with the most talented vocal artists in the business. From his studio in Mallorca, DJ Sammy continues to release tracks that are shaping the landscape of Balearic house music and the release of future dance classics. And he’s done it again recently with the remake of Flume’s massive hit “Never Be Like You” alongside Amelie Larsen and Lorena Dale.

DJ Sammy – Icon, genius, music legend

One of the most iconic DJs and producers worldwide, DJ Sammy has sold more than 20 million records and has been the recipient of countless awards. The Mallorcan global superstar is without a doubt one of the most successful electronic music artists of all time.

His worldwide breakthrough arrived in 2001 with “Heaven”. The track sold more than 2 million records across Europe and Australia and landed at number 2 in the United States – US HOT 100 billboards, before hitting the number 1 spot in the influential UK charts in 2002.

Follow up track “The Boys of Summer” rocketed up to number 2 in the British charts. In addition to the incredible chart positions, TV appearances and worldwide awards, DJ Sammy was also recognised for his DJ excellence after charting in the internationally renowned DJ Mag Top 100 rankings (2005 #92, 2006 #61).

Appearances at the world’s biggest festivals, and also countless club nights around the world helped Sammy to discover his distinctive sound. Residencies in the world famous BCM Planet Dance Magaluf (#6 in the top 100 club ranking of DJ Mag UK), Es Paradis Ibiza and Privilege in Ibiza followed. His radio show MyClubroom was voted most popular radio show by DJ Mag Spain.

MECHA MECHA Release The Volatile Single ‘My Hero The Homewrecker’

by the partae May 7, 2023
written by the partae
Previous Support for Mecha Mecha

“The way you shred those guitars!!! Super fan of this. Reminds me of a number of bands smashed together. Digging those influences, the hooks and the drive in this. Can’t wait to hear more.” (Claire Mooney on Greedy Boys – Triple J)

“Big credit to you for your songwriting and arrangement, the way you tie a bow around everything at the end of the song is clever and original.”

(Max Quinn on Greedy Boys – Triple J)

“They show they are a versatile band, delivering a heavy song such as Your Choice and a soft but powerful piece such as Food Sex Shelter on the same six-track EP.”

(Blink & You’ll Miss It EP – Beat Magazine)

“It’s like a fusion of Queen and Muse with a side dish of Royal Blood. Yet it still sounds uniquely Mecha Mecha, a guide to where the band is headed with their own artistic output.”
(Grease The Hinges Pt 1. – Scenestr)

“Your Choice is a raw ear-blessing and a musical ride. I love the uniqueness that Mecha Mecha bring to their music and am thrilled to hear that Dealbreaker was no musical fluke of brilliance.” (Depth Mag)

Not a new face to the Australian music industry, Meanjin/Brisbane-based rockers Mecha Mecha have a new single ‘My Hero The Homewrecker’ to add to their already extensive catalogue. A melting pot of influence, the “dark-indie” three-piece lean into their experimental sound. The explosive and very personal track, ‘My Hero The Homewrecker’ is out Friday, 5 May.

Capturing the perfected essence of Mecha Mecha, ‘My Hero The Homewrecker’ is an aggressively passionate concoction of instrumentation. Opening sweetly with violin before meaty bass lines and thrashing drums draw the heavy rock and metal tones through the track. Adopting Royal Blood’s famous technique of using the bass guitar as a lead instrument, the texture matches perfectly with the violin creating the unique sound which is Mecha Mecha.

Written about reflecting on a relationship that broke down and flourished into friendship, the vocals of Walter Webb hold the weight of the lyrics akin to Radiohead. Flouncing throughout the track, his vocals sit as the sweetness within the raw grit of the instrumental.

Influenced by the greats of the 90s and early 2000s, Mecha Mecha has an unusual line-up that works in their favour. Consisting of electric violin (Isaac Vincent), bass (Walter Webb) and drums (Angelo Webb), their music blurs the lines of dark indie rock and neo-classical metal, with tinges of psytrance and EDM.

Headlining Nimbin Mardigrass 2023 on May 6 and securing a spot on the Moondoll Festival bill at the Mansfield Tavern on June 3, Mecha Mecha has an ever-growing list of achievements. Multiple music videos from the outfit have taken to the small screen having both Rage and MTV features. On the international big screen, their single ‘Dealbreaker’ was featured and nominated at the Waterford Film Festival (Ireland), Queen Palm International Film Festival (Palm Springs, California), and Serbian FEST (Belgrade). Back home, the track also saw the Brisbane Backyard Film Festival and the West End Film Festival.

Performing at Airlie Beach Festival of Music, Mecha Mecha shared the bill with a rockstar line-up featuring Smash Mouth, Marsha Hines, Killing Heidi, Diana Anaid and The Church. The band has also hosted a fundraiser gig for cyclone victims which was sponsored by Mama Kin and the John Butler Trio.

Mecha Mecha is one to watch with their eclectic, electric and boisterous sound. Let ‘My Hero The Homewrecker’ take over, out May 5.

DOWNGIRL Packs A Punch With Latest Single ‘2006’ And Absurd Music Video

by the partae May 7, 2023
written by the partae
Previous Support for DOWNGIRL

‘Manic’ – RAGE Feature Video

“The video is the perfect accompaniment for Manic which sees a gradual build of gritty riffs and fury-driven drums match the energy of the lyrical confessions that escalate with a fight or flight intensity.”
(Kill Your Stereo) [About ‘Manic’]

“Takes a lot of craft to get this sounding so seamless.”
4 / 5 (Stacy Gougoulis, Triple J) [About ‘Manic’]

“The 90s references work, but DOWNGIRL work harder. They make this one sizzle.”
4 / 5 (Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J) [About ‘Beauty Queen’]

“Massive riffs and destroy-everything vocals make for grungy goodness. I really like how this explodes after 2 min mark. Keen to hear more.”
4 / 5 (Ryan Egan, Triple J) [About ‘Beauty Queen’]

‘Beauty Queen’ music video played on MTV

“Opening with crunchy guitar riffs, propulsive drum work soon runs rampant throughout the track, whilst Skarlett Saramore and Lou Harbidge’s commanding vocals stomp above.”
(Milky) [About ‘Manic’]

“Downgirl tore it up like a wrecking machine made of the Runaways and Bikini Kill”
(Brian Giffin – Loud Mag)

Based on Gadigal Land, the fiery four-piece femme-punk band DOWNGIRL have released their latest track ‘2006’ (out May 5) and a farcical accompanying music video. Just the third single from the hard and fast powerhouse punk band, DOWNGIRL rip a new one in some of Australia’s most criticised politicians.

Full of juicy, on the pulse bass lines and roaring in-your-face guitars, ‘2006’ is true Australian punk. Packed with punchy vocals and rough as guts instrumentation, the track is a wall of sound that shines a light on the continued poor treatment of First Nations people. Deep-rooted with political issues, ‘2006’ hits home for the fury-filled kids of today as well as the original fans of the Sex Pistols and The Runaways. Skarlett Saramore states:

“’Where the bloody hell are you?’ was a Tourism Australia slogan used in 2006. We are exploiting the use of this slogan to reinforce the importance of recognising what land we still stand on. ‘2006’ takes aim at the politicians and people benefiting off the colonisation of Australia, including the injustices committed by the system that continues to negatively affect the lives of our Indigenous and First Nations people.”

Brought to you by your local inner-city d*&kheads, the ‘2006’ music video – inspired by former Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s holiday in Hawaii while Australian bushfires ravaged the country – takes the piss out of four Aussie politicians who’ve shown lacklustre leadership and terrible judgement.

DOWNGIRL don the Polly attire and hit the street like the wrecking balls these politicians were. From tackling kids in the park to engaging in complete debauchery at the pub, the clip is like a montage of the sh*tstorm Australians have had to witness over the last decade. Fittingly, they are seen galavanting around, green-screened over just some of the mess they made. Concluding the clip, they exit the pub tripping over themselves – pants down, covered in their own vomit.

“It is a parody of greatest proportions, a farcical comedy”
, says Saramore, “injecting humour into the seriousness of the subject matter, which is not only representative of the “Australian larrikin” character but a mirror being held up for all.”

Influenced by The Runaways, IDLES and L7, DOWNGIRL has been spun on countless radio stations including Triple J, Double J, Triple M, 2RRR, 5ALX, 4ZZZ, PBS and many more in AUS and overseas.

Also receiving love from Heavy Mag, Frankie Mag, AAA Backstage, RAGE, Kill Your Stereo, Loud Mag, and others, DOWNGIRL is shredding a storm with their flurries of sound.

Give DOWNGIRL’s ‘2006’ your primary vote on Friday, May 5 and them on tour – details below.

Coming in hot with a second release for the year, dreamy pop duo Have A Good Day are to release their glittery single ‘Feels Like Magic’ on May 4.

Met with astounding responses on their debut release ‘Somebody, Nobody’, Have A Good Day turns up the glittery daydream of sugary synth-pop with their latest track. The energetic, upbeat sweetness bursts with colour throughout ‘Feels Like Magic’.

Echoing with explosive joy, the track flows seamlessly with trancing beats, playful bouncing synths and a catchy, chant-worthy chorus. It is a feel-good release capturing the moment of feeling free in a neat glimmering package.

‘Feels Like Magic’ is an anthem of bliss after releasing external expectations and finding that internal validation for the first time. Tailing from their previous single, Have A Good Day explores internal exploration and enjoying the moments of self-discovery.

Opening the track with the lyrics “Every living thing changes, you did the same”, the track finds acceptance at the end of a relationship. Resolving in the pre-chorus with “I’ll find a place inside where there is joy” before bursting into the triumphant sentiment “It feels like magic”.

Like magic, the two only met in late 2022 but became fast friends, bonding over a mutual pursuit of the perfect summer anthem and a fixation for creativity. Individually they have a wealth of experience playing key roles in other projects where they have shared the stage with artists including Siobhan Cotchin, Dulcie, The Presets, Wafia, San Cisco, ALPINE, the duo are paving a new path with Have A Good Day. Most recently, they’ve performed at Dark Sky Festival (WA) and announced signing to Cut Above Collective who are in partnership with Mellen Events and Live Nation Australia.

Their debut single had its first spin on Triple J Unearthed, with plays from Triple J, ABC Radio and community radio across AUS and received praise from publications like The Music, AAA Backstage, Scenestr and Niche Music, amongst others.

Let the sunshine stream through with ‘Feels Like Magic’ by Have A Good Day out Friday, May 4 and catch the duo live on May 13, supporting Jade Rich at The Bird in Perth.

PLS&TY Releases Feel-Good, Emotive Single “New Color” As Second Track From Upcoming “3 Days, 2 Nights” EP

by the partae May 7, 2023
written by the partae

Artists: PLS&TY
Title: New Color
Label: Seeking Blue

Download / Stream

Following his comeback single “Party In My Head” with Lost Boy, PLS&TY returns with the second track from his upcoming EP in the form of “New Color.” While matching the breezy vibes of its predecessor, “New Color” takes on a more emotive focus, with sultry but also soulful vocals that talk of the bright light that someone or something can bring into a dark world. From a sonic perspective, the track rides on organic melodies and piano-led instrumentals with a softly undulating bassline, making it the perfect one to put on while you’re driving with the windows down on a beautiful day. PLS&TY took the last 2 years to focus heavily on the NFT space, where he co-designed skateboard deck NFTs for Tony Hawk, as well as visuals for celebrity athletes like Floyd Mayweather and even members of Congress. Most recently, PLS&TY‘s NFT projects were referenced in Billboard at the #3 and #10 positions of Top Music NFT Sales in August and September of 2022 alongside Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and David Bowie. Stay tuned for the full “3 Days, 2 Nights” EP dropping soon on Seeking Blue.

“‘New Color‘ is the latest single from my upcoming 3 Days, 2 Nights EP, and the second track that highlights a daytime theme/motif. Bringing a modified PLS&TY sound and lighthearted piano-house production, I hope you enjoy this song full of the emotions of love. It’s about feeling vulnerable and alone, like everything exists bleakly in black-and-white, until someone or something special fills everything up with new color & life.” – PLS&TY

Tommy Leas, a Florida native – better known as PLS&TY – is burgeoning into the electronic dance music scene with his unique sound: languid bass, captivating vocals, and enough upbeat melodies to make anybody feel good. His music has amassed over 100 million streams across platforms – that’s if you don’t include a feature in a Hershey‘s chocolate television commercial that has now reached over 1 billion views. PLS&TY‘s singles have charted on Billboard, have consecutively reached #1 on iTunes four times, and have been remixed by Grammy-nominated Morgan Page, Rusko, Cazzette, Bondax, and YehMe2. Tommy has also toured a bevy of A-list festivals, including Shaky Beats, Breakaway, Electric Forest, EDC Vegas, and more. After releasing his debut “Very Special” EP, which featured platinum-selling artists like Sean Kingston, Alex Aiono (of Netflix‘s “Finding Ohana“), Wifisfuneral, and more, 2020-2022 saw PLS&TY become an early adopter of the emerging NFT technology. PLS&TY has co-designed skateboard deck NFTs for Tony Hawk, as well as visuals for celebrity athletes like Floyd Mayweather and even members of Congress. Most recently, PLS&TY‘s NFT projects were referenced in Billboard at the #3 and #10 positions of Top Music NFT Sales in August and September of 2022 alongside Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and David Bowie. 2023 sees PLS&TY emerging with new music and an ever-growing global community of fans following his art, all while wielding the lighthearted “mind your manners” and “please and thank you” catchphrases.

Gian Varela Sheds Light on “The Other” Latin Culture on His Debut EP “L.O.C.” Out Now on Mixmash Records

by the partae May 7, 2023
written by the partae

Artists: Gian Varela
Title: L.O.C. EP
Label: Mixmash Records

Download / Stream

Dance music was long considered a counterculture, a fact that wasn’t lost on Gian Varela. The Latin producer found “La Otra Cultura,” (L.O.C.) or “the other culture,” when he fell in love with electronic music and entered it himself. He now honors the road less taken in the form of his “L.O.C.” EP, featuring six tracks that fuse traditional Latin culture and music with his favorite genre. With a fresh, modern take on rhythmic melodies combined with driving basslines on tracks like already fan-favorite “Ponme Loco” with Laidback Luke ft. Melfi and sultry lyrics with house beats on “Party Sexo Alcohol,” Varela brings and invites everyone to the dancefloor. The “L.O.C.” EP follows his recent single release “Lo Que Siento” with Tom Enzy, also a part of the EP, and introduces brand new track “Papi” with Chuwe to Gian Varela‘s discography. As an up-and-coming producer determined to break genre barriers with each release, Gian is only going up from here.

“L.O.C.” = “La Otra Cultura,” which means “the other culture” in Spanish. In Latin America, there is the “Para La Cultura” phrase, meaning “for the culture.” We use it a lot when we want to celebrate achievements that push the Latin culture forward. However, there is a whole culture of Latinos who do not fit that stereotype. For me, it’s about diversity and being different while always respecting my roots. My mother was a radio host, so I grew up with world music, from classic rock to Spanish rap, until I discovered dance music and its culture, which I fell in love with. There are many like me who connected with this “other culture” (dance music) instead of listening to, e.g., reggaeton, which was born in Latin America and was considered a purely Latin thing. To summarize, the EP is about “La Otra Cultura,” fighting stereotypes, and about Latinos who love their heritage and their roots but draw their inspiration from what happens outside of Latin culture. I want to push this more into the world through my music, and this EP, which consists of 6 tracks ranging from afro house to the strong side of tech house, perfectly represents my sound spectrum when I play and produce. Having Mixmash Records‘ support and their approval of this idea and my sound means so much to me.” – Gian Varela

Hailing from Panama and honed in the United States, Gian Varela is a dynamic and groundbreaking house music DJ, producer, and songwriter who has quickly risen to global acclaim. With an innate rebellious spirit, Gian‘s distinctive style of seamlessly blending Latin genres and electronic sounds has cemented his position as a master of his craft. His upbringing in Panama, the birthplace of reggaetón’s roots, and subsequent move to the US have resulted in a unique, globally oriented sound that has won him legions of fans worldwide. Gian‘s impressive track record includes viral collaborations with Latin superstars like Sech, Feid, El Chombo, and Maffio, as well as releases on some of the world’s top dance music labels, including Spinnin’ Records, Armada Music, and Mixmash Records. His tracks and remixes have gained support from top DJs and producers like Armin van Buuren, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Laidback Luke, Hugel, Wax Motif, and Vintage Culture. With an innate ability to connect with crowds and transmit powerful energy, Gian has honed his craft through years of performing across the Americas. His mastery of the decks allows him to seamlessly transition from his signature Latin tech house on festival mainstages like Ultra Abu Dhabi to his Afro/Caribbean tech sound in more intimate venues. His creative vision has seen him push the Caribbean-infused house genre to new heights, and his dynamic live performances have electrified audiences across the world. From Afro house to peak hour tech-house, Gian elegantly blends his productions while always remaining true to his unique sound. This year promises to be a standout year for Gian, with high-profile collaborations and high-energy fusions in the dance music world that will showcase the full spectrum of Latin house music. With his signature global sound, Gian is sure to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the years to come.

Then catch a dynamic show from multi-platinum selling, chart topping rising star iann dior when he performs in Melbourne and Sydney! dior’s feature on the heavy-hitting 4 x platinum Mood with 24KGoldn reached the Top 10 and remained there for 10 weeks. Early 2022 saw him release album on to better things, which amassed over 180 million streams and received acclaim from NPR, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and NME. Rainbow Kitten Surprise will also be gracing stages in Sydney and Melbourne, weaving together lyrical poetry, hummable melodies and a rush of instrumental eccentricities. Boasting over 1 billion global streams across platforms, the band have earned widespread praise from Billboard, TIME, Vice and NPR. You may have caught yourself humming along to their tracks It’s Called: Freefall and Cocaine Jesus which recently went viral on TikTok resulting in over 11 million *weekly* streams for the band.

Noah Cyrus’ powerful live performance will stay with you long after her show. The GRAMMY nominated, multiplatinum singer and songwriter will bring her 2022 debut album The Hardest Part to Australia, lighting up stages in Sydney and Melbourne with her pop spirit, folk eloquence and country soul. Cyrus will be supported by her friend and collaborator PJ Harding. Then catch the unique blend of R&B, traditional African music and experimental electronic sounds of multitalented singer-songwriter and violinist Brittney Denise Parks AKA Sudan Archives. What began as a solo endeavor, the Sudan Archives project has expanded to include a full band, praised for its genre-defying sound and socially conscious lyrics with Parks drawing inspiration from her own experiences as a black woman in America. The band has performed at Coachella, Glastonbury and the Hollywood Bowl. Now it’s time for the project to take Sydney and Melbourne!

Then it’s time to see Del Water Gap as he takes over stages in Melbourne and Sydney! Since releasing the Don’t Get Dark EP in 2019, Del Water Gap has put out a series of singles, including Ode to a Conversation Stuck In Your Throat, deemed an “ear-worm track” by Vogue UK. Del Water Gap released his self-titled debut album in 2021, finding critical acclaim across leading publications including NPR, GQ, MTV, and Esquire.

written by the partae

Toronto, ON – This week, 18x CMA Ontario and back-to-back CCMA Female Artist of The Year Meghan Patrick made her debut on the iconic Grand Ole Opry stage. During the stunning performance, Patrick announced the release of her deeply personal EP, ‘Greatest Show On Dirt,’ debuting the title track, along with “Red Roses & Red Flags,” to a capacity crowd.

“Playing the Opry was everything I’ve ever dreamed it would be,” says Patrick. “This is such a landmark moment in my career and something that I’ve fought so hard for, and I could not be more grateful for the opportunity. To be surprised with the news of my first gold song only made the night more special. Thank you to the Opry team for having me and to the crowd for listening. The year of MFP is just getting started.”

‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ will be released on May 5 via Riser House Records / The Orchard. Featuring six tracks that define this new era of Patrick, the project is available for pre-order today. The title track ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ (available today), written by Patrick with Trannie Anderson (Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson), Jake Mitchell (Ashley McBryde, Brantley Gilbert) and Matt McGinn (Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton) is a cinematic and bittersweet ode to young love seemingly fit for a Hollywood movie… until learning the leading man was putting on a show all along.

Two previews from the EP, the soaring “She’s No Good For Me” and the scalding breakup anthem “Ours“, are both available now. You can listen to the new single ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ here.

In addition to playing the Opry stage, Patrick recently earned another career milestone with her first Canadian Gold certification for her song “Wild As Me.” She received the news while on stage at the Opry, earning her a standing ovation from the audience.

Sunshine Coast rapper CAELWHIP comes through with new single ‘2 BUCKS A LITRE’

by the partae May 3, 2023
written by the partae

Having built up a strong following off the back of a strong creative work ethic, and delivery of music that listeners can relate to, Coolum hip hop artist CaelWhip returns with a new track for 2023 in ‘2 Bucks A Litre’.

Constructed on a confident foundation of beats and vicious flow, the track follows on from CaelWhip’s popular 2022 release, ‘I Don’t Wanna Work’ – a track that put the artist further on the radar of local industry as one to watch. Here, CaelWhip turns his attention to real life issues we’re all having to face; the pressures and constant in-flux nature that comes with having to navigate adulthood.

PLAY/LISTEN

Recorded at CaelWhip’s home studio on the Sunshine Coast, ‘2 Bucks A Litre’ saw the rapper work with producer rūku on the beat. The result is a track pumped with charisma and sharp lyricism; the key through-line of “two bucks a litre, I’m trying to keep up…” set to be rattling around the listeners’ head after that initial playback.

For CaelWhip, the track was an organic way for him to air his own frustrations and in doing so, create another piece of honest and to-the-point output.

“‘2 Bucks A Litre’ is my take on the rising costs and pressures of modern life. I use my music and writing as an output a lot of the time. I was at home listening to beats; nothing was really working out, and through my frustration, just started yelling, “two bucks a litre, I’m trying to keep up”, which made me laugh at its catchiness. I just continued capturing that energy and wrote this track (and my next release) all in one.”
CAELWHIP

While ‘2 Bucks A Litre’ may be a way for CaelWhip to flex on the hardships and frustrations of daily life, his ascent as a formidable artist of the East Coast hip hop community has been one to be proud of. Cutting his teeth at venues on the coast has led CaelWhip to support the likes of Drapht at his recent sold out Solbar show, as well as appearing alongside artists including The Terrys and Peach Fur at Big Weekend Coolum.

To date, Caelwhip’s music has been earning love from the community of fans and industry alike, previous releases  landing on the radars of ABC Sunshine Coast, Double J and Triple J.

PRAISE FOR CAELWHIP

“An ode to everyday life every listener can get behind. If you’re a dream chaser this hip-hop track with the classic Aussie sound will get you through the working day.”
Ungrained Mag (‘I Don’t Wanna Work’, 2022)

“CaelWhip approaches the track with notion of chasing your dream, and not conforming to the normality of a daily job, as well as the modern-day needs that are associated with the concept and image of wealth and happiness.”

A highly decorated global superstar and entrepreneur with wins across Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, Latin GRAMMY’s and many others, as a Latinx artist Balvin has steadfastly broken cultural barriers and become one of the Top 10 most-streamed artists globally, developing legions of fans worldwide. Originally hailing from Medellín, Colombia, the illustrious reggaeton superstar is one of the best-selling Latin musical artists with sales of more than 35 million records. Balvin’s 2017 chart-topper ‘Mi Gente’ with Willy William, and subsequently a remix with Beyoncé, reached global success serving as a nod to cultural pride.

The barrier-busting Balvin will perform two huge headline shows while in Australia: Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on Sunday 23 July, followed by Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Tuesday 25 July. He did similar at Coachella, returning to the desert event (following Beyoncé inviting him up onstage the previous year) for a performance heralded by Billboard as “the most high-profile set from a reggaeton artist in the festival’s history”.

‘His set was a monumental achievement – one of the greatest Coachella has ever seen … and yes, that includes Beyoncé’ – Variety

J Balvin’s list of collaborators reads like a who’s who of music giants: Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Ed Sheeran, Skrillex, Pharrell… while in 2020 he was the first Latinx artist to team up with the iconic Air Jordan brand. (He’s also got his own Monopoly game and a Guess campaign to boot). The Colombian superstar and reggaeton revolutionary is an unstoppable force across the worlds of music, fashion and art, Balvin also leading initiatives for mental health awareness, the star launching OYE, a bilingual, mental health and creative wellness app in both Spanish and English.

Iconic late night burlesque cocktail bar ‘Low 302’ to be reinvigorated under new owners

by the partae December 31, 2022
written by the partae

One of Sydney’s most iconic live entertainment and music hot spots, Low 302, is embarking on an exciting revamp as its new owner takes the reins.  Already a wellknown establishment due to its saucy lineup of cabaret performances and trend-setting DJ mixes, new licensee and general manager Luke Reimann is keen to put his mark on the place, reinvigorating its mojo with a delectable range of stunning new cocktails, wines, spirits and beers, a new dining menu and even more live music gigs.

“Low 302 is one of the oldest running cocktail bars and live music venues in Sydney, so it’s an absolute honour to be taking over the management of this iconic and historic establishment and making it our own while continuing its long history. It’s the best way to come into the business, because I already know it well.  But I’m here to change it up, to re-energise Low 302 to new highs!” Reimann said.

Old business, new business

“Many Sydneysiders were really upset when Frankie’s Pizza announced their closure due to the area being earmarked for redevelopment, with plans for a new metro train station to be built in the very same spot. Frankie’s has been around for a long, long time, well over ten years, and it’s been a go-to place for those wanting a late-night meal and drink,” Reimann said.

“We’re really sorry to see Frankie’s go, but the good news is that Low 302 is here to fill the gap that Frankie’s is leaving behind plus we are re-energising all the great offerings that Low 302 has been delivering to the market for so many years.

“So the next time you have a late night craving for a drink and something to eat with fabulous entertainment in a venue that is inviting and ‘New York’ kind of swanky, you know where to go – Low 302.”

New menu

“Low 302 is also rolling out a new evening dining menu that will include a range of all-night bar snacks as well as small plates and al e carte meals,” Reimann said.

“Whether you are popping in for a drink after work, watching a show or spending the evening with us for dinner, our new menu will include a broad range of food offerings to suit just about every taste and need. Our menu will feature plenty of traditional options as well as some curated specialties.

“Our drinks menu is where things get truly exciting. We have an extensive list of only the finest cocktails, wine, beer and spirits. Our drinks and cocktails menu covers all of the classics along with a special House List which have been specially created and prepared by some of Sydney’s finest bartenders.”

Music mix

“Low 302 has always been known for our music mix and we will be stepping up our fantastic and diverse range of acts and performers,” Reimann added.

“Get ready to be mesmerised by our stunning and provocative burlesque and cabaret performances and entranced by our dance and theatre pickings. And when the weekend rolls around and you’re ready to pick up the pace, on Friday and Saturday nights, our DJs and killer live bands will have you hitting the dance floor with their hits so you can groove the night away!”

Ringing in the New Year

“As the year draws to a close and workplaces start to unwind, everybody just wants to let loose, relax and enjoy themselves,” Reimann said.

“If you are looking for a great venue with loads of good food, and plenty of awesome music, there’s no better place than Low 302. There is a lot to enjoy as we ramp up this little beauty of a venue with all of our new offerings and entertainment additions. Low 302 is now the new ‘go to’ in Sydney – recapturing the essence of comfortable fun sassy drinks, eats and entertainment.”

About Low 302

Now under new management, Low 302 is one of Sydney’s oldest running cocktail bars and live music venues. Modelled on the classic New York style of the 80s and 90s, it is Sydney’s top pick for good food and live music. Its extensive cocktail and drinks list has been mixed by some of Sydney’s top bartenders. Live entertainment acts are varied and eclectic, going from blues nights and cabaret shows to trendy DJ mixes and killer live bands, pumping out chart-topping hits. Low 302 is fully licensed for dine-in and also caters for functions and parties. Private hire and large group bookings are available.

Where are you currently based?

Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

How did you first start making music?

I first started making music when I was playing around on Garageband on my iPhone and used Apple AirPods to make a song. It was called Myself which I put out in my first year of highschool, I did get a lot of criticism and people appreciated my art. From that moment, I loved what people told me, it made me happy. I just knew that I had to start working on my craft and that I should create more songs.

What’s been happening recently?

Just released my new song Suits On featuring Stay Swaying on all platforms. Been collaborating with artists abroad from the UK and local Toronto artists.

What influenced the sound and songwriting of Suits On?

It was strongly influenced by a slow guitar and low 808’s produced by ProdXyv and BENHEET It has an up-beat yet mellow vibe to it, making it a perfect christmas song for karaoke challenges. Putting together experiences that were happening at the moment, Sway and I had put it all together in a song. With the hard beat switches, and classic kick drum the beat is finished as a certified RNB winter track.

How has Toronto affected your music?

The engagement from Toronto is absurdly high. Toronto pages haven’t been showing me love. Toronto music mainly revolved around the violence and that is something that I stay out of entirely. Taking my own route, I know Toronto gon’ notice me soon over time.

What is your best memory from the video shoot?
Just the process of making the skits and shooting the shots with my suit was the best memory. The creativity that the videographer, Sway and I had when shooting different scenes during the video, for example the mirror scene as it switched from Yasmeen, the model to Sway.

Where, when and who did you film with?
We shot this music video around my birthday in June, and filmed it with ShotAt11 in a photo studio that was a partially greenhouse.

Who are your favourite artists?
My favourite artists are The Weeknd, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, J.I the Prince of N.Y and RealestK.

Are you happy with conversations being had about your music?

I came to the conclusion that you actually have no influence over the setting or manner in which a discussion about your music occurs. Everyone has their own opinions, which they frequently voice online. I am aware of my supporters. I do read and keep up with everything that is happening. I value the criticism, and I take to heart everything that spurs my artistic development.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Askae is an artist I truly love listening to at the moment.

What do you like to do away from music?
I play basketball, I feel it gets a lot off my mind and I just love the game. Recently, I started to meditate and read spiritual and self development books.

What’s planned for 2023?
I got a lot of music lined up for the year, just trying to shoot the music videos on my own time to plan out my marketing strategies. Just trying to grow as an artist and do better and more progress than the work I put in 2022.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Favourite food has to be Lobster Thermidor and favourite place to hangout has to be the Harbor 60 Steakhouse in Downtown Toronto.

Alok Closes 2022 with “Surrender” – Stunning Collaboration with His Protege ÜHÜ and Producer Duo YOU. Out Now on CONTROVERSIA

by the partae December 30, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: Alok & ÜHÜ
Title: Surrender (feat. YOU)
Label: CONTROVERSIA

Download / Stream

Just 1 week after releasing his unexpected g-house track “Kill Me,” Alok returns with a new single – “Surrender.” Showcasing his prowess as a producer, Alok takes a new sonic direction with this dark progressive gem, which rides upon deep, growling basslines and soulful vocals. “Surrender” packs plenty of emotional punch while incorporating an underground vibe that’s suitable for late-night dance floors. For “Surrender” Alok teamed up with his protege from CONTROVERSIA – ÜHÜ, and YOU, made of Andrew “BullySongs” Bullimore and Josh Record, known for collaborations with Armin van Buuren, Galantis, and as co-writers for some of the most recognized dance music hits. It makes for a strong finish to his incredible year, which held breakthrough collaborations with Bastille, John Martin, Luis Fonsi, Alan Walker, and more, hit singles such as “Deep Down” with Ella Eyre, Kenny Dope and Never Dull and “All By Myself” with Ellie Goulding and Sigala, and remixes for the likes of Marshmello and Khalid. With the official return of clubbing and festivals this year, Alok played hundreds of shows across the globe, including performing at the United Nations to kick off NYC’s Global Climate Week. It’s all up from here for Alok, so stay tuned for what’s in store for 2023.

Alok

With a strong resume full of remixes and collaborations with artists such as The Rolling Stones to Zara Larsson, from Jason Derulo to Tove Lo, and more, Brazilian Alok has gained an immense international following and is currently having his global breakout moment. He already has the second-largest Instagram following of any electronic artist globally (28M), and his 20M devoted monthly listeners on Spotify have made him the most listened to Brazilian artist in the world. In 2022, he was named the 4th Best DJ in the world, according to the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Poll. In 2019, Alok was nominated for the International Dance Music Awards for his hit remix of the Meduza single “Piece of Your Heart,” and he also worked with global pop sensation Dua Lipa for the official remix of her hit single “Physical.” Recently he also collaborated with Grammy-award pop sensation John Legend on “In My Mind” and with renegade vocalist John Martin on “Wherever You Go” and lended his talents to remix Ed Sheeran‘s “Shivers.” The sky is the limit for the Brazilian superstar.

ÜHÜ

Gabriel Murilo Mello‘s newest project for the post-pandemic era comes in the form of ÜHÜ, a bold brand with plenty of existing versatility and experience. Since 2010, Mello has been DJing and producing in his home country of Brazil, gracing the stages of festivals such as Tomorrowland Brasil, EDC Brasil, Green Valley, Dream Valley, PUMP, Rio Music Conference, and more. His music has been supported by David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Alok, Tiësto, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, Showtek, and many others. As a producer’s producer, co-producer, and composer, Gabriel Mello amassed over 1B streams across all digital platforms. With all this information, ÜHÜ is born: a startup but already experienced artist whose musical identity brings references from deep house, progressive, and tech-house.

CONTROVERSIA

Alok‘s CONTROVERSIA continues to go from strength to strength, and this latest release is another fine example of a label making all the right moves to maintain its impressive forward momentum. Since its inception in June 2019, CONTROVERSIA has accumulated over 1B Spotify streams thanks to its remarkable family of artists, including Yves V, Alan Walker, Bhaskar, Alle Farben, Vintage Culture, and more. All of whom have helped CONTROVERSIA quickly establish itself as one of the most successful independent labels in dance music today.

The Botany View Hotel now Sydney’s ‘go to’ for karaoke

by the partae December 30, 2022
written by the partae

If you needed proof that Aussies are getting back out for dinner, drinks and parties, you only have to turn up to Sydney’s iconic Botany View Hotel on King Street in Newtown on Monday nights.

According to Luke Reimann, licensee of the Botany View Hotel, the popularity of karaoke is going through the roof. While bookings for parties, work gatherings and end of year functions are coming in left right and centre, a lot of people are enquiring about karaoke.

“We do karaoke on Monday nights at the hotel, trivia on Tuesday, mixed bag of shows on Wednesday, jazz on Thursdays, barbecues and bands on Fridays and New Orleans jazz on Sundays,” Reimann said.

“Mondays are proving super special because people are obviously fed up singing in the shower and want to get out and test their singing skills at our karaoke. Monday nights are pumping.”

Reimann said that the old karaoke classics are still strong favourites with Aussies.

“Even though we have been decimated by COVID for the last few years, Aussies have come out of lockdown still fixated on some of the old favourites, David Bowie Let’s Dance, The Clash Rock the Casbah, Elvis Presley Suspicious Minds and TLC Waterfalls, just to mention a few,” Reimann said.

“In fact, if anything, retro is more popular than ever. Regardless of age, young and old are choosing to sing the old 80s classics. People like that era, it signifies good times and people are wanting boppy simple fun tunes they can sing to.”

“There is something about karaoke, it draws everyone in. You wouldn’t get up on stage and grab a microphone and sing to a large audience anywhere else, but in a comfortable and cosy pub environment amongst friends, a few drinks and a great karaoke song list, people lose their inhibitions and embrace the freedom of karaoke and they pump out a few tunes.”

“I think people are sick of singing in the shower. They want to get out and have some fun. Karaoke gives the ability to have fun in a safe environment. It is a great leveller.”

Since opening back up fully post COVID, the Botany View Hotel has been showcasing some of Australia’s best local musicians. It has become a leading location for live music, good food, the city’s biggest range of curated cocktails and craft beers, parties and events, and other fun-filled activities.

“The great thing about karaoke is that it is not only good fun, it is also a great bonding  activity too.  Everyone gets a turn or a few turns and when you have had enough you can listen to everyone else, hit the bar or get some food. And if you feel like real music, you can come in when we have live music happening during the week and on weekends.”

“Music definitely lifts the mood and it is great to see so many people getting back into music whether it is karaoke or listening to a live band.  It is about time.”

About Botany View Hotel

With a long history to its name, the Botany View Hotel is located along King Street in Newton, Sydney. Now under a new licensee and renovated during COVID, the Botany View Hotel is a thriving destination with plenty to offer. The hotel’s event calendar is jam packed with an eclectic line up of emerging and established Australian musicians and patrons can enjoy a meal, jazz night, trivia night or host a party at one of the function rooms or in the  newly upgraded roof top garden.

“Prince of Love” was one of DJ Sammy´s first productions. The Spanish Star-DJ and hit producer, twice listed on DJ Mag’s Top 100, first released this single in 1997 with Carisma.

It charted at #24 on the German charts, reached #1 in the European dance charts and stayed for 15 weeks on the hitlist.

Now the Hamburg-based DJ and hit producer Special D. has taken the track and refreshed it completely.

“The track `Prince of Love´ has always been something special to me, the first one for me in the role of a lead artist, as well my first chart hit as a main artist. I received so many requests for cover versions or new mixes from all over the world, but declined every single one… except this one time!  That was when Special D. reached out to me. I’ve known him for quite a long time now and couldn’t say no to his idea of taking the original vocals of Carisma and putting it together with his sense of the song. So it came out fresh and absolutely upfront,” explains the DJ-star.

Special D. aka Dennis Horstmann is a German DJ and dance music-producer, who landed a hit in Europe with the cover of Nena´s “Nur geträumt” back in 2003.

Top 4 in Ireland, top 6 in UK, top 10 in the Netherlands and top 14 in Germany paved the way for him up to the TMF Awards, which are considered the most important music awards in the Netherlands, in which he won the ´best international dance artist´ category.

His other chart hits include “Home Alone”, “Nothing I Won’t Do”, “You” or “Here I Am“. Also the “Suck My Dick!” number from his “Dickheadz” side project (together with Andy Judge) was even picked for the Hollywood blockbuster “Crank: High Voltage” with Jason Statham. Recently, Special D. collaborations with Le Shuuk (“You”) as well as W&W and Harris & Ford (“Come With Me”) caused a stir on the international dance charts and streaming portals.

DJ Sammy is one of the most famous DJs and producers in the world. With over 20 million records sold, plus countless awards, the global player from Mallorca is one of the world’s most successful electronic music producers, who had his breakthrough with “Heaven” in 2001. It surpassed 2 million record sales in Europe and Australia alone, reached #2 on the US Billboard’s HOT 100, before climbing to #1 in GB in 2002. Many TV appearances and award wins all over the world followed, and he entered the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 DJ rankings (2005 #92, 2006 #61).

“Prince of Love 2023” unleashes a new vibe from Special D., DJ Sammy and Carisma on Kontor Records!
