R3HAB Releases Organic, Pop-Influenced House Single “Sway My Way” With Australian Singer/Songwriter Amy Shark

Artists: R3HAB, Amy Shark
Title: Sway My Way
Label: CYB3RPVNK/Universal Music/Sony/Liquid State/more

Download / Stream

Multi-Platinum producer R3HAB joins forces with one of Australia‘s most formidable singers/songwriters Amy Shark for “Sway My Way,” an organic take on Bic Runga‘s renowned song “Sway.” The new single marks a creative departure from R3HAB‘s signature high-energy dance music style with a more laid-back feel. Riding on organic instrumentals and Shark‘s crystalline vocals, the two artists create a cathartic and emotive sonic energy that still pays homage to the original version. “Sway My Way” follows R3HAB‘s recent bilingual release “Turn The Lights Down Low” with Timmy Trumpet and Chinese singer NINEONE#. Read on for both artists’ take on the new release:

“Every record reveals a new facet of the artist behind it. ‘Sway My Way‘ might surprise some listeners, as it’s got a more organic and stripped-back feel than many of my singles, but I love the dynamic it brings. Amy is an incredible artist and a pleasure to work with, and I’m so glad she helped me bring this song to life.” – R3HAB

“I have a lot of family from New Zealand, so naturally I grew up loving Bic Runga, and her song ‘Sway‘ was one that I loved so much. When R3HAB asked me to join him and put my spin on the song, I jumped at it.” – Amy Shark

Multi-Platinum DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the past fifteen years. From his breakthrough remixes for Rihanna, Drake, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, to anthems such as Platinum-certified “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” to his collaborations with the likes of Ava Max, ZAYN, Luis Fonsi, Sean Paul, and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most forward-thinking artists in the game. His work has collected over 8B streams to date, including 1.1B in 2021 alone. R3HAB founded his label CYB3RPVNK in 2016, which has passed 4B streams across platforms since its inception. R3HAB continues to evolve and diversify his sound by working with artists around the globe, pushing the boundaries of dance music as he collaborates across genres and languages. He is Spotify’s Most Discovered Artist, one of Spotify’s top 200 most streamed artists, ranked #12 on prestigious DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs chart, and has earned over 70 Gold and Platinum certificates. R3HAB has embarked on multiple sold-out worldwide tours and was the first dance music artist to sell out 15 consecutive shows in China. On top of that, he performed at the world’s top festivals, such as EDC, Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, Balaton Sound, Coachella, Summer Sonic Festival, DWP Jakarta. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, R3HAB has earned his place as a household name in dance music.

After honing her craft and self-producing her music for years, Amy released her breakout hit, “Adore” in 2016. The emotive single put Amy on the map as one of Australia‘s most formidable songwriters. “Adore” went on to achieve 6 x Platinum certification in Australia, a streaming count that surpassed 115M, and second place in the influential listener-voted 2016 Triple J’s Hottest 100. This was followed by 6 x Platinum single “I Said Hi.” Soon, the international music community came knocking, leading her to work with Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus, heavyweight pop producers Jack Antonoff and Joel Little, among others. In 2018, Amy released her debut album, “Love Monster.” The album debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts, and her 2019 3 x Platinum single “Mess Her Up” dominated commercial radio and streaming services. With “Love Monster,” Amy scored nine nominations at the 2018 ARIA Awards and four wins, including “Album Of The Year,” “Best Female Artist” and “Best Pop Release.” Amy has toured internationally and performed on several major US television shows, including “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” 2020 saw Amy Shark releasing the first offering of new music from her sophomore album “Cry Forever,” with “Everybody Rise.” The now 2 x Platinum-accredited single is nearing 40M streams and spent 12 weeks in the top 10 Australian airplay chart. Amy‘s latest album, “Cry Forever” was her second #1 ARIA debut holding and saw Shark team up with blink 182‘s Travis Barker on Gold accredited single “C’MON” and global superstar Ed Sheeran to co-write platinum single “Love Song’s Ain’t For Us” featuring Grammy award winning artist Keith Urban. Today Amy has amassed close to 1B combined global streams.

4B Returns To His Drum/Jungle Roots With New Single “Drum” With Damian Avila

by the partae June 13, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: 4B, Damian Avila
Title: Drum
Label: MACA

Download / Stream

4B is back with his new track “Drum,” for which he teamed up with newcomer Damian Avila. It doesn’t take long to realize that the title is very appropriate as the catchy vocal monologue of a sultry female voice takes over shortly after the opening beats begin; anticipation builds as 4B coaxes listeners closer to “the sound of the beating drum.” Its drop is equally minimalistic and hard-hitting, sonically throwing back to 4B‘s original sound. “Drum” already receives heavy support from the likes of Diplo, Alison Wonderland, Flosstradamus, to name only a few, being 4B‘s second release this year, following “Turn Up” on HARD Recs and more music scheduled to drop in the not-so-distant future. Look out for his tour coming to a city near you, including his original “4B & Friends” concept at the iconic Hollywood Palladium venue.

“Linked up with Damian Avila via the internet & really went back to my drum/jungle roots. I wanted to keep the song pretty simplistic because a lot of the time less is more. Really happy with the way it came out.” – 4B

Robert McKeon Jr., better known as 4B, may only be 29 years old, but he’s already been honing his musical skills for nearly half of his life. The American DJ and producer has relentlessly pursued his signature sound and vision, garnering support from some of the industry’s legends like Skrillex, DJ Snake, Diplo and Tiësto for his unique sound and meticulous production style. His trademark single was “Pop Dat” with Aazar in 2015; which became a quintessential trap anthem upon its release in 2015 and quickly evolved into a festival staple recognized all over the world. Since its release, it has become one of the most played trap songs in 2016, putting 4B firmly on the map as one to be watched in the dance music scene. Since then, his talent for boundary-pushing production translated easily into a finely tuned ear for remixes, including one for Fetty Wap‘s “My Way” with Flosstradamus and DJ Snake‘s “Middle,” which was officially released through Interscope. 4B has also earned himself somewhat of a cult following from his electric live performances, which include his wildly popular set at EDC Las Vegas right before ZEDD, where he brought out Soulja Boy as a special guest. 4B continues to evolve and mature as an artist, and we are excited to see what the next wave of his career brings.

4B’s upcoming dates:

Jun 11 – Honolulu, HI – The Republik
Jun 17 – Sacramento, CA – The Park Ultra Lounge
Jun 18 – San Francisco, CA – Yolo Nightclub
Jun 26 – Neptune, NJ – Oasis Day Club
Jul 01 – Boston, MA – Royale
Jul 02 – New York City, NY – Circle Line Summer Series
Jul 03 – Tampa, FL – WTR
Jul 08 – Philadelphia, PA – NOTO

Dover Lynn Fox ‘Lone Star’ Premiere

by the partae June 11, 2022
written by the partae

A singer-songwriter from Burlington, ON, Dover mixes elements of indie-pop, folk and rock to create a unique sound and drive her dynamic, sincere and stormy lyrics. Her heart lies in narrative and she crafts each song to tell a story. A big fan of music from the 60’s and 70’s, she musically tips her hat to some of her favourite artists: Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks and Neil Diamond. When these classics are not filling the room she enjoys the music of artists, like the band Travis, Mazzy Star and the Jayhawks.  A nature lover and devotee to all creatures great and small she loves gardening and hanging out with her cat and dog and whatever else happens to be flying or hopping around.

GEORGIA ASHLEIGH

by the partae June 10, 2022
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
I’m based in Naarm/Melbourne.

How did you first start playing music?
I first started singing back in prep, when the school music teacher decided to give me a small solo in the choir. Since then I became insufferable – treating my parents to many living room performances.
I later started piano lessons, but never really had the discipline to practice between them.
It wasn’t until I picked up the guitar in my mid 20’s that I started playing and writing music.

What’s been happening recently?
Lots! Releasing my first two singles has been a terrifying but exciting experience. The reception has been overwhelmingly lovely. Both songs are deeply personal, and it’s felt a little bit like publishing my personal diary.
Outside of that I’ve been photographing weddings and teaching, so it’s safe to say it’s been a busy time.

Your latest single ‘Doing Fine’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
The lyrics and writing were heavily influenced by Angie McMahon, and Pheobe Bridgers. The sound was inspired by Alex the Astronaut’s up beat and cheerful tunes. I wanted to play with the juxtaposition of the light fun melody with the dark sarcastic lyrical content.

How did you go about writing Doing Fine?
This was the second song I’ve ever written. I remember sitting on my bed with my guitar playing the few chords I knew at the time and looking through a few of the notes I’d written on my phone. I’d written most of the song within 1 hour. It wasn’t until one day after a few beers I played it for a few talented friends of mine, who then jammed with me and turned it into a fully formed song. We created and sent recordings to each other over lockdown and before we knew it we had bass, drums and guitar all sorted out.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
Recording and producing was done up in Castlemaine with Jono Steer, in this tiny idyllic studio out the back of his house called the Perch between lockdowns. It was a beautiful and warm environment.
Mastering was done by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering.

How did you approach the recording process?
I was absolutely terrified, I had never done anything like that before. I remember bringing copious amounts of tea (and even some whiskey). My bandmates (Jordan Whittmore, Harry Pratt and Lachlan Cooper) were absolute pros and fantastic friends throughout the entire process. Jono made the entire experience so enjoyable and easy. He’s the master at creating a safe and quiet space to create in – adding so many beautiful touches that truly finished the songs.
It was an incredible experience that I feel really fortunate to have had.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Merpire; Yusiimi has been on heavy rotation at the moment. Masterful songwriting and just an all-round stunning track.
Wildfire by SAULT is an incredibly powerful track that was introduced to me at a music festival.

What do you like to do away from music?
I’m a professional photographer, who mainly photographs weddings at the moment. Outside of that, I enjoy scuba diving, hiking and sewing.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022?
I’m hoping to get stuck into writing a few more songs and release my debut EP as well as organising some gigs and support act spots.

Favourite food and place to hangout?
Food; Very Good Falafel in Brunswick, late-night hangout spot Rainbow House in Fitzroy.

Shangrila

by the partae June 10, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

Perth, Western Australia.

How did the band form?

We formed our if our old hardcore band “Common Bond” in 2017. We made the choice to move from hardcore which was a genre that we felt comfortable in and had grown up listening to into alt rock/ heavy rock so that we could really challenge ourselves and expand our creativity.

Your latest single ‘Sunlight’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Sunlight is a song that we have been playing around with for a few years now. We had always loved the song but just couldn’t really find a release that it would fit into as it was a much different vibe from our other songs. We decided that now was as good of a time ever to release a track we thought to have a big “optimistic” and positive feeling about it. The song for us just is a nice track to put on and day dream.

How did you go about writing Sunlight?

We just told ourselves that we wanted to write a song that was fun to play and reminded ourselves to keep it light, keep it simple and see what we can come up with.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Cody Brooks – Engineering

Shane Edwards – Mix/Mastering

How did you approach the recording process?

We had a fantastic time tracking our last release with Cody Brooks and Shane Edwards so we decided that they would be the perfect combo to help us turn this track into something special. This was definitely one of the most stress free recording process we have ever had by far which was a real treat for us and made the process even more enjoyable.

You have a headline launch show coming up in July, where are you playing and what do you have in store for us?

July 2nd at Amplifier in Perth.

July 14th at The Zoo in Brisbane.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Jackson – I’ve been really enjoying the new Thornhil album and also a really big fan of “Hello Yello” right now.

Gabbi – I haven’t shut up about the new Windwaker album since it came out and have been pestering everyone I know to listen to it.

Dan – Counterparts, Circa Survive, Holding Absence and Royal Coda!

Chad – I’ve been listening to a lot of Holding Absence since finally seeing them live

What do you like to do away from music?

Jackson – eat food and drink beers 🙂

Gabbi – I’m super into film photography and crochet.

Dan – Movies and going for a swim!

Chad – I like to drink whiskey and get Ws in Fortnite

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022?

We wanna get out of Perth and play as many shows around aus as we can before we are back in the studio towards the end of the year.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Jackson – favourite food is anything Asian and spicy and favourite place to hang is either the gym or the pub… yeah I know ?

Gabbi – I can’t go past a good burger! I love just having adventures with mates – hanging at their place, going on drives, and being spontaneous.

Dan – Zamberos!

Chad – Guzman y Gomez and anywhere involving my homies!

TINA ARENA’S SPECTACULAR ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL KICKS OFF TONIGHT!

by the partae June 10, 2022
written by the partae

Get ready to kick up your heels and warm up this winter with a sparkling program of the best and boldest  performers at the 22nd Adelaide Cabaret Festival, starting tonight at Adelaide Festival Centre.

International star and Australian icon Tina Arena AM proudly presents her curated program with this year’s star studded line-up, featuring 377 artists and musicians across 97 performances over 12 decadent days and nights.

The world’s largest cabaret festival features 14 world premieres and 15 Adelaide premieres by a large contingent  of Australian artists and performers from the USA, Germany, Rwanda, and New Zealand at Adelaide Festival  Centre and Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Audiences will be delighted, entertained, and teased by alluring performances and sultry disco evenings – from  headline artist Marcia Hines singing gospel tunes to Australia’s queen of burlesque Imogen Kelly, cabaret  chanteuse and festival favourite Meow Meow, and bespoke French circus act Cirque Bon Bon.

The hottest late-night club, The Pina Colada Room, will bring a touch of 70s disco to The Famous Spiegeltent – this year located on the new Festival Plaza and featuring DJs, off the cuff cabaret performances, and  appearances by Artistic Director and ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Tina Arena.

In her debut as Artistic Director, Tina Arena is ready to start the festival fun and frivolity:

“I am thrilled to be in Adelaide for this much-loved winter festival and can’t wait to see the fusion of stories,  song, dance, and all things theatrical come to life on stage. I hope this year’s program reconnects audiences and  artists in the most intimate and life-affirming way, offering some much-needed connection and joy.

“I’ve always loved cabaret – long before my role as Sally Bowles, it’s a beautifully eclectic art form and escapism  of the most fabulous kind. This program brings together artists with diverse voices and cultures, representing the  best cabaret has to offer in Australia and abroad. From my own show and the personal stories of Songs My  Mother Taught Me to the decadence of The Piña Colada Room – leave your worries behind and let’s have some  fun!”

Bringing her Italian heritage to the program, audiences will get a rare chance to connect with Tina Arena on a  personal level, as she headlines and hosts the world premiere show, Songs My Mother Taught Me. Featuring  Tina, and special guests Lior, The Voice 2022 finalist Thando, Jess Hitchcock, Wendy Matthews and Sophie Koh,  the show celebrates culture, legacy and love and is inspired by storytelling and family. Two shows only at Her  Majesty’s Theatre on June 24 and 25.

Opening weekend highlights include:

  • Cabaret favourite Reuben Kaye hosting this weekend’s The Pina Colada Room and brings his new show  Live & Intimate to The Banquet Room in the second weekend.
  • South Australian cabaret favourites Amelia Ryan, Michaela Burger and Michael Griffiths celebrate the  golden age of rock ‘n’ roll, sexual revolution and the leaps and bounds of women’s liberation in Simply  Brill – The Women Who Defined Rock ‘n’ Roll. Limited tickets available.
  • Audiences will travel back in time with vocal powerhouse Catherine Alcorn and Phil Scott in 30  Something, an immersive show set in Sydney’s Bohemia Kings Cross on New Year’s Eve 1939.
  • Swing band Davina & The Vagabonds in an Australian premiere where they draw from the past 100  years of American music, from Fats Domino to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits in a show led with New  Orleans charm and Memphis soul in The Famous Spiegeltent this weekend.
  • New Zealand company, A Slightly Isolated Dog bring Don Juan to the Space Theatre, bringing together  physical comedy and twisted pop songs in a hilarious and irreverent show directed by award-winning  Leo Gene Peters.
  • In its cabaret debut, State Opera South Australia performs How To Kill Your Husband (and other handy  household hints) at Dunstan Playhouse. Based on Kathy Lette’s hit novel, this show guarantees a night  of high drama and cheeky intimacy.
  • Cabaret Life Drawing – be guided through creating charcoal drawings of a live model while sipping  on a glass of wine and being entertained with live music in The Famous Spiegeltent.

Headline shows proving popular:

  • The Gospel According to Marcia sees the extraordinary Marcia Hines celebrate memories from her childhood in Boston and her early experiences with Gospel music in a one night only unmissable concert at Her Majesty’s Theatre on June 17. Accompanied by Adelaide’s own Charmaine Jones & The Gospo  Collective, audiences will rejoice with hit gospel songs including ‘Oh Happy Day’, ‘I Don’t Know How to  Love Him’, and ‘Lean On Me’.
  • Comedian Paul McDermott presents his nightly show on the last two weekends of the festival with The  Funhouse – a dark carnival of minstrels and misfits, comedy and music and featuring Claire Hooper and  Dilruk Jayasinha plus an array of special guests each weekend.
  • Comedian and performer Oliver Twist reflects on his time as a refugee from Rwanda, in a delicately told  and unforgettable one-person show, Jali, that proves exceptional storytelling and belly-aching laughter  are powerful antidotes to trauma – three shows from June 23-25 at Space Theatre.
  • In his cabaret debut, multi-platinum Australian R&B artist Gary Pinto (member of former hit Australian  band CDB) will bring his soulful voice to Dunstan Playhouse in Sam Cooke: The Music. Celebrating the  legacy of “The Godfather of Soul” Sam Cooke, Gary will belt out classics including ‘A Change is Going to  Come’ and ‘You Send Me’ in an evening of storytelling and musical melodies to warm the soul.

South Australian performers include:

  • Kuko, Katie Aspel and Rob Edwards in a special Adelaide Premiere where First Nations regional  musicians and performers present a mix of blues, jazz soul and folk in a night of remarkable sound and  story telling in T.R.A.I.L on June 19.
  • Victoria Falconer makes her festival debut in And Then You Go – The Vali Myers Project, harnessing the  flame haired-bohemian figure and visionary artist. The show is this year’s Frank Ford Commissioning  Award recipient – the award by Adelaide Cabaret Festival’s late founding father provides $20,000 a year  towards the creation of new works by South Australian artists.
  • Musical Theatre fans will not be disappointed with Moments in the Woods – Songs & Stories of  Sondheim paying tribute to the genius and legacy of musical theatre’s most ground-breaking composer,  Stephen Sondheim, featuring Philip Quast, Geraldine Turner, Queenie van de Zandt, Josie Lane and  Adelaide’s own Mitchell Butel for one night only at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier AM:

“South Australia’s favourite winter festival is back and looking better than ever with the new Festival Plaza open  and ready to welcome audiences to some new spaces and familiar ones at Adelaide Festival Centre. As a winter  festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival is a seat at the fireside, warming our collective spirits and we know how  important that is for our community.

“Tina Arena has brought her creativity, talent and arts expertise to this wonderful program, contributing to the  festival’s position as the country’s premier cabaret festival in Australia’s premier festival city. We look forward to  warmly welcoming audiences back.”

Adelaide Cabaret Festival Executive Producer Alex Sinclair: “We can’t wait to see cabaret fans and new  audiences alike joining in the festivities of our favourite winter festival. Come share a dance under the mirror ball,  enjoy the sparkle, glamour and revel in the live and intimate performances that make Adelaide Cabaret Festival  the place to be this June.”

Free events include the popular LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club by All The Queens Men, the fabulous afternoon tea  dance party for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse and intersex elders and all allies will be held at The  Famous Spiegeltent on Sunday, June 19.

The inspiring Class of Cabaret program returns to shine a light on the cabaret stars of tomorrow, proudly  supported by Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation through the Nathaniel O’Brien Scholarship which allows one  student from regional South Australia to participate in the program.

Festival favourite Trevor Jones – The Piano Man is back at the Festival Theatre foyer Quartet Bar nightly and the  Corryton Burge Bar and Cabaret Lounge return as the perfect places for patrons to settle into a quiet corner or  keep the party going between shows.

Produced and presented by Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide Cabaret Festival has grown from modest  beginnings in 2001 to become Australia’s major winter festival and the largest cabaret festival in the world.  Previous Artistic Directors of the festival include Julia Holt, David Campbell, Kate Ceberano, Barry Humphries,  Eddie Perfect, Ali McGregor, Julia Zemiro and most recently, Alan Cumming.

The festival has been a platform for shows and performers who have achieved critical acclaim and featured  world-renowned artists including Ms Lisa Fischer, Kristen Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Dita Von Teese and Patti  Lupone to name a few.

BRISBANE’S TAHDIG RETURNS WITH CRISP NEW JOINT ‘AIR FORCE 1’

by the partae June 10, 2022
written by the partae

For anyone who has a building collection of kicks, or at the very least, has the insatiable thirst for making sure your footwear collection remains *fresh*, Brisbane rapper Tahdig has delivered the perfect of songs.

Her new single comes in the form of ‘Air Force 1’ an ode to the classic footwear that are an absolute staple within hip hop culture and streetwear, period. It’s a fun release from the artist, who has been releasing music since late 2021, showing off a natural talent as a lyricist and vocal MC.

Built on a beat crafted by German producer Fewtile, ‘Air Force 1’ was recorded at Brisbane’s Six Degree Studios and saw Tahdig work with Gene Castillo (Rush Hour Studio) on mixing and mastering. As the artist explains, ‘Air Force 1’ is all about feeling fun and confident; literally putting your best foot forward.

“‘Air Force 1’ is a hip-hop track that demonstrates high-energy and catchy vibes. I wanted to write a track that was fun and up-beat and expressed cool vibes. I chose to write about Air Force 1’s since they are a huge trend in street fashion and are a type of sneakers that make you feel and look cool.”

“I instantly fell in love with the sound as it had a middle eastern influence mixed with hard hitting urban beats. I knew that this would be the beat I would rap to for ‘Air Force 1’ due to its high tempo. With the process of making my tracks, I usually find the beat I like first then try to create my flow when I rap. Most of the time the initial beat that I like doesn’t match my flow so I usually have to source other beats that match. However with ‘Air Force 1’, the beat was a match from the get go.”

TAHDIG

2022 is going to be the year Tahdig introduces herself to more audiences around the country with her distinct flair and sound. Developing her love for hip hop and the culture from a young age, Tahdig has cited her early influences; from the likes of Missy Elliott to Eve; 50 Cent to Eminem. Born in Iran and migrating to Central Queensland with her family as a child, Tahdig has been enraptured by hip hop since she was nine years old.

Her recent inspirations have come in the form of artists like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Wale, though her sound also sits in the same lane as your Remy Mas and Rosalías – making her one to watch as this year continues!

‘Air Force 1’ is released Thursday, May 19

We wrote and recorded the song in Nashville earlier this year, now we’re finally getting back out on the road, travelling, playing live shows and doing what we love to do… Playing some damn music!

Please tell us about your upcoming EP:

Molly: This EP is so special to us, it really represents where we are right now as a band. Our style, sound and overall vibe was captured perfectly and each song is so different which we love. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it and hopefully love it as much as we do!

How was your recent trip to Nashville?

Molly: Soooo good! Nashville is our musical home and sits so close to our hearts. Every time that plane touches down it’s the best feeling. We wrote our upcoming EP in Nashville earlier this year and collaborated with some of our favourite songwriters and musicians. It’s always so inspiring and we can’t wait to get back!

When and where are you playing next?
Lachlan: Our next show is up at the Sunshine Coast at an awesome venue called “nightquarter”, it’s on the 18th of June and anyone who reads this better be there !! More info on The Buckleys website.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Lachlan: At the moment we have all been listening to a lot of “The Cardigans” and “Ray Charles” .

We love listening through albums and experiencing another artists creative journeys that they have passionately put together for others to appreciate.

What do you like to do away from music?
The only thing I really do away from music is surf, we’re lucky enough to live 20 minutes away from the coast where there has recently been great swell for a musician like me to ride.

What was it like working on a track with Camilla Fernandez?

Sarah: It is such an honour to have written ‘Down The Road’ with Camila and for The Buckleys to have collaborated on this track with her. I can honestly say it’s been one of the most incredible experiences, firstly to first discover more and learn about Mexico and to fall in love with it’s classic Mariachi music especially, in my preparation and research before writing with Camila! After writing the song, I was immediately so excited to visit Mexico, and am so incredibly happy and thankful that we did get to shoot the music video with her in Mexico City. It has opened up a whole new musical world to me and we look forward to discovering more and spending more time there.

How did Oops I Love You Come about?

Sarah: I actually started writing Oops accidentally with our youngest brother, Dylan (15yo) who plays drums. We were jamming, just for fun and I stumbled across this bass line. The ideas just grew from there and after playing around with the melodies and ideas, I bought it to Lachlan and Molly. We kept it in our back pocket and when we arrived in Nashville, we revisited it with our producer, Chad Carlson. We all really dug the direction and it was one the first songs we wrote from the upcoming EP.

Your latest single ‘Oops I Love You’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Sarah: This song to me feels really fresh but also has a touch of nostalgia in it. There wasn’t any real intentional ‘influence’ or vibe we went for when we were writing or recording, however after listening to it now, I feel like there’s subliminal and subconscious influences in there from 80s! In the melodies, riffs and hooks you hear throughout it…. is that just me?! Haha. A bit of 90s pop I feel like has crept in there too… some people have said it gives them Sheryl Crow so hey, I’ll take that, as she’s an all time fav!

AUSTRALIAN CHART-TOPPING BAND THE BUCKLEYS RETURN WITH “OOPS I LOVE YOU”

by the partae June 6, 2022
written by the partae

The Buckleys (credit: Kimberley_Vecsei)

Coming off of the release of their critically acclaimed debut album Daydream, Australian pop-country trio THE BUCKLEYS have returned with a brand-new single “Oops I Love You” which is available today, June 3, 2022 via Petrol Records/Universal Records/UMe.  Recorded at Nashville’s iconic East Iris Studios earlier this Spring, “Oops I Love You” finds the chart-topping band in a fun-loving, joyous playful mood.

The song can be streamed/purchased here: https://TheBuckleys.lnk.to/OopsILoveYou.

“Interestingly, this song started out on bass,” says vocalist Sarah Buckley, oldest sibling to the Buckley family trio which includes Lachlan (guitars) and Molly (keyboards).  “I was jamming with our youngest brother Dylan (15 yo) on drums just for fun and I started playing this bassline which you hear in the song. We kept jamming and when I brought it to Lachlan and Molly as just a bass and drum groove, they loved the direction, so we all started playing around with some ideas and the melodies started to take form.”

Traveling from their native Byron Bay, Australia to Nashville earlier this year to write and record the upcoming EP TAKE IT AS IT COMES (release date: August 5, 2022) with producer Chad Carlson (Trisha Yearwood, Taylor Swift, Lady A), Sarah pulled out the basics of the song and revisited it in the studio.  “We kept it in our back pocket to show to our producer Chad where we were going. We were in the studio, and I started singing ‘Oops I love you’ as the chorus and everyone picked up on it and I guess we ran with it!”

A breezy pop confection that pushes the band forward from their “Hippy Country” roots that put them on the map with their chart-topping debut album Daydream, “Oops I Love You” is further proof of their command of up-tempo, feelgood beats and melodies. “What has been so great about this new project is that we’ve spent a lot of time writing together, just the three of us, and have been able to define where we want to go and want to say,” Sarah explains about the creative process. “Bringing our vision and ideas to some of our brilliant creative friends and collaborators in Nashville has given this new project a whole new grit. Walking into the studio with a cohesive vision between us is so important and being able to take that to a whole new level through collaboration is something special.”

Proceeding to tackle the U.S. market, The Buckleys’ Stateside highlights include a performance on The ACM Weekly and add on Radio Disney Country with their single “I’m Comin’ For Ya (Love),” and a CMT Music USA add for their video “Breathe.”   The band created a groundswell in Australia with each of their four released singles charting in the Top Five of Australian country radio. Their first single “Daydream,” catapulted the trio into the limelight, scoring a #1 single on Australian country radio, which was followed by the second single, “I’m Comin’ For Ya (Love),” which reached #3. Their worldwide debut single “Money” reached #2 and its follow up “Breathe” at #3.

Having been away from actual touring since the start of the pandemic, The Buckleys are hoping that the release of this single and EP will herald a new beginning of exciting new music and future live performances, especially in America.  “It feels like a natural evolution from where we left things off with Daydream in 2020,” Molly says excitedly, hopeful that touring can be a large part of their gameplan.  Adds Lachlan, “We’ve all grown a lot as individuals, songwriters, musicians and together as a band since recording our debut album. We are experiencing a new chapter in our lives, which you hear in the music.” Optimistic and hopeful, Sarah concludes, “We really want to get out on the road, play as much as we can, meet as many people as we can and soak in all the experiences.”

Video Premiere: Nighteye’s Drops New Video for Debut Single ‘Lowlight’

by the partae June 6, 2022
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
I’m based in Naarm/Melbourne.
How did you first start playing music?
I have always loved to sing and come from a musical family, so there was always music around as I was growing up. When I was in my first year of high school I took lessons in drums and guitar and started writing songs. I’ve been playing ever since.
What’s been happening recently?
I’ve been working on my debut album which will hopefully be done before the end of the year. In January I was able to play my first shows as Nighteyes which was exciting, and releasing Lowlight was definitely a highlight.
How did the circus element for your ‘Lowlight’ music video come about?
Lowlight features in the contemporary circus show ‘The Defiant’, produced by Highwire Entertainment, and I am also involved as the sole musician and music director. We performed in the Midsumma Festival in Melbourne back in January of this year and also at Adelaide Fringe in February/March, where we won the Best Circus Award. The circus performers in The Defiant are so talented, so I wanted to incorporate their incredible skills into the music video. The apocalyptic setting of the video captures some of the magic of the stage show and I’m so happy we managed to tie the projects together.
Who did you collaborate with during the creation of the Lowlight video?
My friend Paul Westbrook of Late Cut Media directed and edited the video. He is also a circus performer so he knows how to capture this unique style of performance really well. He had already shot some footage for The Defiant promotion videos, so we went back out to the original location and filmed me and my guitar.
What did you find most challenging and rewarding throughout the filming process?
One of the techniques we used for this video is slow motion, which meant I had to learn how to sing/mime the song at double speed so that was pretty interesting! It was hard not to laugh when I heard the song at that speed. We also ran into some very muddy conditions, so some of the shots are of me with my boots sinking into the mud. It was such a beautiful location in Port Gawler, SA, so I think that made up for the tricky parts. We were really lucky to get similar weather for both shoot days so that was great!
Lowlight is your debut release, please tell us about any upcoming releases:
I’m currently working on my debut album, which Lowlight will be a part of. In between playing for other artists and shows I’ll go into the studio and lay down what tracks I can. I’m very excited to share this music with the world as it’s been a long time coming. I’m hoping I will have the album finished and released before the end of the year.
What influenced the sound and songwriting for Lowlight?
I had a vision in my mind when I wrote this song of the particular kind of light the moon emits, how it doesn’t entirely illuminate the dark and makes scary shadows out of things that would be benign during the day. The lyrics in the verses weave fear and paranoia into what would typically be a peaceful moonlit night, exploring the state you can get into when you’re so anxious that even the trees seem menacing. My main influences for my sound are artists like Chelsea Wolfe, Fleetwood Mac, post-rock band Giants and Explosions in the Sky, electronic beats, and heavier acts such as Elder and Graveyard. I wanted an electronic aspect of the song with beats and synths, but my main love has always been heavy guitar so I knew that needed to feature as well. I really enjoy music that spans different genres so I wanted my own music to follow that path.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
Lowlight started as a tour project when I was performing with a different project, I had my laptop, guitar and a small interface to work with. Once I was back in Melbourne, my partner and producer Drew Handcock worked with me to finetune it, adding synths and finetuning the drum beats and guitars. Drew also played some live drums on the track and did the final mix. Casey Rice mastered the track as another project of mine, Honeybone, worked with her for our last album so I knew she would do a great job.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
The albums I have on repeat at the moment are Surrender by Rufus Du Sol, Apocryphon by The Sword, Chelsea Wolfe’s latest album Birth of Violence and Jon Hopkin’s new work ‘Music for Psychedelic Therapy’. My partner and producer Drew also has his own electronic project, Divine Wave, so there’s always new music coming from our home studio which I love to hear.
What do you like to do away from music?
To be honest, not a lot! I think if you ask any musician, we put in so much of our time and energy into music that other activities are a bit hard to fit in. I do like to do self-care activities like exercise and meditation however, and spend time with my partner, friends and my two dogs.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022?

I’m hoping to get this album finished by the end of the year, it’s a labour of love and I’ve been sitting on this project for a while so I want to get it right. I’ve also got a bit of touring with other projects, so hopefully I can fit it all in. It’s amazing having live music back after covid, I really missed it!

Snowfish

by the partae June 6, 2022
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
Newcastle, Australia.
How did you first start playing music?
We all began playing instruments separately at a young age, as we got older we started jamming together just for fun. Eventually, this grew into a more serious passion and we officially launched Snowfish in 2019.
How did Snowfish form?
Sol and I (Jordan) had run through a revolving door of members that we had been trying to start something up with. Kalan was only 14 at the time but we could already recognise his talent. We decided it was time to bring him in, the rest is history.
Your new single ‘MAYBE’ is out now and is off your upcoming debut album ‘The Monster Upstairs’, what influenced the sound and songwriting for MAYBE?
Maybe is the token soft song on the album. It is placed in the middle of the tracklisting to give the listener a break from the dark and intense energy contained in some of the more energetic tracks on The Monster Upstairs. We took influence from artists such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Keane, and Radiohead, in particular their album OK Computer and especially the track ‘Let Down’.
How did you go about writing MAYBE?
The guitar line that opens the song actually continues throughout the entire track as a loop. We basically built the song from that one guitar line.
Where and when did you record/produce master and who did you work with?
We recorded the song in October 2021 with Jack Nigro at his studio in Coogee Beach, Sydney. The track was mastered by Darren Ziesing of Millenium Mastering.
What can we expect from your debut album?
Along with our 5 existing single, the album will feature 5 brand new tracks and an interlude. We all believe the new tracks are some of our finest work and can’t wait to share these with the world.
How is being an alt-rock band in Australia in 2022?
The Australian music industry typically favours surf and indie rock, we are fighting hard to bring some attention back to the beauty of the alternative genre.
What has been your journey so far?
Maybe is our fifth and final single from our debut album which will be out by the end of the year. In the time since we started we have performed over the east coast of Australia, sold out shows, received tens of thousands of streams, and played on commercial radio. We are excited for the next chapter of our journey.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?
We plan to tour Australia on a national level in support of the release of our album.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
We are listening to Mitski, Mom Jeans., PUP, glass beach, Royal Blood, Harry Styles, Daniel Johns, and more.
What do you like to do away from music?
We enjoy getting out and mountain biking or playing tennis, as well as gaming. Our drummer Sol is actually working on creating his own video game.
Favourite food and place to hangout?
We love mexican food and hanging out at gigs.

Nicky Romero founded Protocol Recordings in 2012, and on its 10-year anniversary, he is proud to announce the launch of the Protocol Lab sub-label with the new imprint’s very first release – “Stuck On You,” coming from Repiet and Andrew A. Starting in 2017, Protocol Lab has been a concept in the main label’s ADE compilations, which later evolved into being a branded stage at Protocol‘s club showcases during Amsterdam Dance Event. Now, Protocol Lab as a label will be a place to experiment with new sounds and nurture new talent, the first of which are up-and-comers Repiet and Andrew A. “Stuck On You” has a gentle big room vibe mixed with a future bass twist, wrapped in a very unusual structure, making for an emotive and yet dancefloor-friendly track that would light up the festival stage. In the past, artists such as BLVNCO, Marc Benjamin, Tommy Jayden, Raiden, FaderX, Sam Void, Timmo Hendriks, Thomas Newson, Mosimann, and more graced the Protocol Lab stages. Protocol Recordings, since its inception, released music from the likes of Calvin Harris, David Guetta, NERVO, Krewella, R3HAB, Tommy Trash, Nile Rodgers, W&W, Stadiumx, Deniz Koyu, Thomas Gold, and of course Nicky Romero himself, to name only a few. Stay tuned for more undiscovered artists and cutting-edge new music from Protocol Lab very soon as Nicky Romero‘s newest vision comes to life.

After taking the world by storm with early hits such as “Legacy” with Krewella and the #1 single “I Could Be The One” with Avicii, Nicky Romero quickly proved that his talent is ever-evolving and here to stay. After launching his Protocol Recordings imprint in 2012, the renowned performer, producer, and label head continued his personal successes with a string of high-profile releases, ranging from collaborations with Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, Timmy Trumpet and Steve Aoki to remixes for the likes of Robin Schulz, Kygo, Rita Ora, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, Jess Glynne and more. While showcasing his label’s roster via his weekly Protocol Radio show, Nicky Romero continues to innovate and evolve, and with his annual “Nicky Romero & Friends” ADE showcase and the launch of Monocule alter-ego, he keeps proving his ability to turn into gold everything he touches.

Making a huge impact so far in 2022, Perth-based rockers Big Orange are back to dish up another exhilarating rock rover with their all-new single ‘Mum Says I’m Okay’ (out June 3).

Delivering their third release of the year behind beloved alt-rock singles ‘Love’s Not Enough’ and ‘By The Dozen’, both turning the heads of tastemakers across the country and beyond, Big Orange refuse to take their foot off the accelerator, unleashing non-stop rollicking rock that packs a punch.

New single ‘Mum Says I’m Okay’ fires up with an all-out alt-rock guitar riff, quickly joined by resounding drums as Daniel Davis’ vocals give off that 90’s alt-rock tinge. Seeped in a passionate optimism for wanting the best out of life, the distinctively Big Orange chorus arrives in all of its hook-filled glory, bringing a rousing rock flavour to wonderfully relatable lyrics.

The message behind ‘Mum Says I’m Okay’ is simple yet powerful – block out the haters and do what’s right for you. Basically, keep going, you’re doing great.

“I think everyone with a passion can relate to these lyrics,” bandmate Emma Adams adds.

“Daniel showed me this track a few months ago and I dug the shit outta it. It’s a slow burn with a superbly hooky chorus when it hits.”

Big Orange have been killing it lately, with the band’s previous releases seeing massive support from US College Radio, National broadcaster IndieXL (Netherlands), Triple J, Double J, Triple J Unearthed, Scenestr, LA On Lock, Backseat Mafia, The AU Review, theMusic, Pilerats, XPress Magazine, Junction Records, RTRFM, FBi Radio, 4ZZZ, 3RRR, 2SER, The Most FM (NZ), Radio Wigwam (UK), Radio RaBe (CHE) and more.

This recent success only adding to their previous wins, including WAM Rock Song of the Year nomination in 2020, plus the group’s coveted support and festival slots including RTRFM flagship event In The Pines, WAMFest and the inaugural WAY WAY WEST Festival.

So do what’s right for you and get your ears on the latest from Big Orange with their new single ‘Mum Says I’m Okay’ out everywhere on June 3.

Delivering an entrancing surge of mind-bending dark wave psychedelia with rousing alt-rock romanticism, Brisbane-based psych-rock outfit Dream Dali are unveiling their newest single ‘Rosary’ on June 3.

Fronted by experienced musician Aldous Emerson, Dream Dali have been warping minds and transfixing audiences since their inception, with last year seeing the band take it up a notch thanks to the release of their debut EP ‘Life in Legato’.

Now, Dream Dali are here once again with their enamouring single ‘Rosary’, digging in deep with relentless, trance-inducing drums, brain-snagging bass notes and the compelling vocal of Aldous as it sweeps through in subdued desperation.

Then, as if lost in a synth-pop reverie, the chorus conjures images of big hair and even bigger personalities as dramatic 80’s-esque rhythms take hold. Coated with layers of dark wave instrumental, the track opens up with gluggling, reverb-painted guitars and rising vocals as retro mayhem descends with electronic notes of arcades past.

Written about projecting ideals on other people and getting hurt in the process, ‘Rosary’ represents a metaphorical infatuation, as Aldous explains:

“Rosary is a fictional and metaphorical lover or infatuation that continues to hurt you, and yet you can’t help going back to them. Rosary is a representation of the people and relationships you have projected your ideals on.”

Dream Dali are known for their utterly unique live experiences, blending Dada movies with black and white imagery from the 1930’s to deliver surreal, multi-sensory experiences that have shared the stage with the likes of Phoenix, Washed Out, Empire of the Sun as well as an appearance at BIGSOUND in 2019. The band have also seen support from the likes of Music Feeds, Tone Deaf, Triple J Unearthed, Livewire AU, Australian Musician and more.

Before catching them on the stage, immerse yourself in a hypnotic Dream Dali moment with the release of their striking new single ‘Rosary’ on June 3.

‘DOING FINE’ – THE BRAND NEW SINGLE FROM GEORGIA ASHLEIGH

by the partae June 3, 2022
written by the partae

Following on from the release of her debut single (‘Scoop’), Melbourne songstress and newcomer Georgia Ashleigh returns with her sophomore single ‘Doing Fine’ and does not disappoint! With her uncanny ability to weave deeply personal lyrical content with melody, she exudes raw vulnerability. ‘Doing Fine’ will pick you in the depths of feeling down and sink into the depths of your brain. With intricately woven lyrics and stunning crisp production, this second indie folk single is fresh and exhilarating.

Listen to ‘DOING FINE’ HERE

“‘Doing Fine’ was written when I was very much not fine. This was the first step (of many) to admitting that I was facing depression again and that I needed to get help. The song replicates my tendency to lean away from things that are hurting me and cover it up with sarcasm or humour. The happy melody versus the lyrical content speaks to this division between how I was acting and how I was feeling at this point in my life. I’d crafted almost everything in my life to appear fun, and easy going when it all felt the opposite.” – Georgia Ashleigh

Hailing from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria and influenced by the likes of Angie McMahon, Ruby Fields, Alex Lahey, Merpire and Phoebe Bridges, Georgia embraces the art of storytelling and the desire to understand herself and her situations more. It’s her love of truth in songwriting and music alongside strong emotions and stories that shines so brightly through her music with her debut EP due for release in July 2022.

Beautifully crafted songs written for anyone who’s ever experienced love, loss or any anxious stage in between.
