BENNY WALKER Releases third studio album

by the partae June 9, 2020
written by the partae

Chosen Line is Benny Walker’s third studio album.  Produced by Jan Skubiszewski and Pip Norman the album features co-writes with both producers along with musicians George Carpenter [Your Place] and Desmond Masé / Rachael Lia Carne [We’re Home].

Chosen Line had it’s full 6 piece band live debut at the recent Port Fairy Folk Festival and will be officially released on on Friday 5th June 2020.

Chosen Line is a full album experience and showcases both sides of Benny Walker. Tracks All Ya Gotta Do Is Call and I Don’t Blame You are both strong Blues bass tracks that have yielded Benny’s highest streaming figures to date. Current single We’re Home and title track Chosen Line showcase his more introverted soulful nature.

“Chosen Line” could’ve been called “Songline” or even “Unchosen Line”. The title represents my “chosen” career path. I didn’t really choose it. I embraced it. I come from a long line of storytellers and musicians, and they’ve all had a significant impact on the person I’ve become and the musician that I am. I’m a Yorta Yorta man and in our culture, we would call that my Songline. Yorta Yorta visual artist, John Patten, created the album artwork taking into account my songline and the Yorta Yorta totem the long-neck turtle as well as the river that also represents the fretboard of a guitar. says Benny Walker

Chosen Line – album track listing

Your Place – [Benjamin Walker / George Carpenter]

Real Enough – [Benjamin Walker / Pip Norman]

We’re Home – [Benjamin Walker / Desmond Masé / Rachael Carne]

If You Want It, You Got It – [Benjamin Walker]

All Ya Gotta Do Is Call – [Benjamin Walker]

I Don’t Impress Myself – [Benjamin Walker]

I Don’t Blame You – [Benjamin Walker / Pip Norman]

Hailing from regional Victoria, Indigenous singer/songwriter Benny Walker with a voice that is said to have the drag and timbre of a natural soul man …his music is pure blues-rock, buoyed by clean, lyrical guitar solos and the throb of electric organ.

Benny’s love songs and epic tales are mixed with passion for the land, the people and deep grooves that reach the soul.

His third studio album CHOSEN LINE will be released on June 5th and features All Ya Gotta Do Is Call and We’re Home. Both songs shot to No. 1 on the AMRAP charts and are streaming strongly across Spotify and Apple Music. These latest songs produced by Jan Skubiszewski mix Blues and Roots with a contemporary guitar driven soul vibe.

In 2017 Benny’s new single GHOST and its EP Undercover; both debuted at No.1 on the iTunes Blues Chart. It was then he captured the attention of Byron Bay Bluesfest boss Peter Noble. “I saw Benny play at a guitar festival …. did he EVER deliver…. GORDI RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘UNREADY’ WITH VIDEO FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM OUR TWO SKINS + CONFIRMED TO SUPPORT BON IVER’S AU TOUR 2021

by the partae June 9, 2020
written by the partae
  • Watch the video for ‘Unready’ now, featuring a cameo from Alex Borstein – voice of Lois Griffin in Family Guy + currently starring in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel
  • Local proceeds from ‘Unready’ sales on Bandcamp during June to be donated to NAAJA – North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency
  • Our Two Skins album out June 26 via Liberation Records
With a little over two weeks left until the release of her sophomore album Our Two Skins, Gordi shares a new single ‘Unready’, complete with video, from the offering. Gordi is also proud to join the line-up for Bon Iver’s recently rescheduled Australian arena tour for March and April next year.

Following previously released songs ‘Sandwiches’, ‘Aeroplane Bathroom’ and ‘Volcanic’, ‘Unready’ appears like a blast of pop optimism, a song about being caught off-guard by your life while you stand in the middle of it. Co-produced by John Congleton, the track is ornamented with synth, muted percussion, and Gordi’s emotive voice. ‘Unready’ began as a voice memo Gordi had recorded while sitting at a harmonium in Reykjavik, Iceland at the beginning of 2017. To bring it to life, she, Chris Messina (Bon Iver, Bruce Hornsby, Big Red Machine), and Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Hand Habits, Waxahatchee, Tallest Man) turned out the lights and plugged in an old strobe light she uncovered in her brother’s bedroom in an attempt to put her in the right headspace.

“For me it sits quite separately to the rest of the record – it’s the only song whose lyrics predate the period of my life described by the rest of the songs on Our Two Skins,” says Gordi. “When it came time to record the song we tracked every guitar we could find for the big strum sound in the chorus. Singing it proved a challenge because it sits a little higher than my comfortable register. We had tried to do the vocal takes in the cottage but it wasn’t working so one night we ventured over to my parent’s house for a change of scene. Chris asked me (as a joke) if we had any strobe lights in the house to set the mood. We always joke that you could request any object from my Mum and she’d have it to you in minutes from some treasure trove of stuff in the house. Sure enough, we found a strobe light in the wardrobe of my brother’s childhood bedroom. We turned the lights off and hit the strobe, setting the perfect conditions to finally execute the vocal take for ‘Unready’.”
The single is accompanied by a video directed by Madeleine Purdy, which features a cameo from Family Guy’s Alex Borstein (voice of Lois Griffin). Alex is also one of the leads in current TV series The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, and put her hand up to join Gordi’s video after a series of Instagram DMs and Tweets.

Playing on a sequence of slightly absurd and incongruous scenarios, the clip acts as a flamboyant enactment of the album’s playful side. “I asked Purdy to make a video in the middle of a pandemic, and we finally arrived at this idea: “vignettes of despair”, Gordi reflects.

The writing of Our Two Skins began after a nervous breakdown while pacing around an Etihad flight from Australia to Europe in late 2017. Gordi had finished exams to earn a medical degree and after trading her “nice, safe relationship” for a new one, she began coming to terms with a new truth in her identity.  That identity struggle and her new relationship, which played out against the backdrop of the marriage equality plebiscite in Australia and her Catholic upbringing, led to an isolated internal state. That state was further fueled by distance, trying communication and lost loved ones. Our Two Skins chronicles the intense and impossible time that Gordi spent renegotiating who she is and how she fits into the world.

Eager to bottle the isolation and emptiness she felt during this period of rediscovery, the remoteness of Canowindra, the tiny town where her family has lived for over a century, proved the right location.  Here, her internal state could be seen, felt and captured. Gordi called upon her friends Chris Messina (Bon Iver, Bruce Hornsby, Big Red Machine) and Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Hand Habits, Waxahatchee, Tallest Man) to help her achieve this sonic goal. The producer duo flew from Wisconsin to Canowindra armed with selected gear, and set up a studio in an old cottage on the family farm for a month – a quarantine-premonition of sorts. There was no phone reception, no wi-fi, and a tin outhouse located in a nearby shearing shed. “It was very removed, very isolated,” Gordi says. The trio each selected their favourite few instruments and studio tools, and restricted themselves to just those resources while making Our Two Skins.

Currently, Gordi has applied to return to the medical field to help out during the COVID-19 crisis, where she will likely be placed in a pop-up “fever clinic” or in a rural hospital. She is on standby with a variety of hospitals and health authorities for rural local work and metropolitan overflow work, saying she is ready to return to the wards while touring is not possible. Speaking to News Breakfast on ABC TV in Australia she said “I’ll dig out my work backpack, make sure my stethoscope is functioning as it should and go back to my other life; it will likely be in a more frantic state than I left it.”

In light of recent international events, Gordi will be donating proceeds from ‘Unready’ Bandcamp sales during June to NAAJA in Australia and NAACP Legal Defense Fund in the US.

Gordi’s debut album Reservoir debuted in the Top 20 of the ARIA Albums Chart in 2017.

Hatchie & The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Release The Jesus And Mary Chain Cover ‘Sometimes Always’ On Digital & 7″

‘It’s a true match made in dream pop heaven’ – CLASH
In the first release since her internationally acclaimed debut album Keepsake (2019), Hatchie has announced a collaboration with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart for a cover of ‘Sometimes Always’, The Jesus and Mary Chain’s collaboration with Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval from 1994. The track is out now on all digital services and will be released on 7” in Australia exclusive to indie stores on Friday 19 June. Alongside ‘Sometimes Always’, the release features B-side ‘Adored’, Hatchie’s previously-released 2018 Adult Swim digital single and the only Hatchie track to not exist on vinyl until now.
Listen to ‘Sometimes Always’ here
Of the release, Hatchie’s Harriette Pilbeam says: “it was a dream come true to record this cover of one of my favourite collaborations with one of my favourite artists. I’m so glad it’s finally getting released because it’s extra special to me.”

100% of sales from the limited international release on Bandcamp Day last Friday, June 5 were donated to The Movement for Black Lives and The Loveland Foundation.

Last year, Hatchie released her critically acclaimed debut album, Keepsake, which The New York Times called “blissed-out but not blissful synth-pop,” and NPR hailed as “gorgeous, fuzz-drenched dream-pop.” VICE praised the songwriting as “timeless and inviting” and Paste called it “life affirming… every track here is a knockout.”

More exciting Hatchie news on the horizon – watch this space.

Praise for Keepsake :
” …a young Australian singer whose music reveals a lighter heart: Her sugar-dusted melodies can be heard on last year’s “Sure,” and “Secret,” from her just-released debut album.” – The New York Times

“Each song is concentrated on romance, in the form of heartbreak, desire, and wonder, delivered with enough jangle to melt the iciest heart.” – Pitchfork

“One of the most fully realised Australian debut albums you’ll hear this year, Keepsake guarantees that Hatchie, like the album’s namesake, is definitely one to treasure” – triple j

“On her debut album, Aussie artist Hatchie pushes her songwriting boundaries and explores new sounds. “Obsessed” ponders friendships and how they bolster our lives.” – KCRW

“If Sugar & Spice was an out-of-nowhere brief burst of swirling dreampop that struck an uncanny balance between the genre’s dual predilections towards thick haze and bracing clarity, her debut LP Keepsake sounds bigger and bolder in every way.”
– Bandcamp

“From the opening notes of “Not That Kind” until the closing utterances of “Keep,” her vice-like grip over your attention never threatens to wane. This is a record destined to sit at the beginning of a promising legacy in years to come, as Hatchie continues to create jangling sonic comfort food far into the future.” – Under the Radar

THE CHATS, THE DREGGS, PIERCE BROTHERS, BUGS, SAHARA BECK + MORE ANNOUNCED FOR ALL AGES THREE DATE DRIVE-IN AIRWAVES FESTIVAL ON SUNSHINE COAST

by the partae June 8, 2020
written by the partae
The Chats, The Dreggs and more are fangin’ it up the highway and pulling up at the Sunshine Coast’s first-ever all ages drive-in music festival. AIRWAVES – The Drive-In Music Festival blasts off at Nambour Showgrounds on Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July, complete with an ‘Outer Space’ theme.

It’s the cosmic brainchild from the creative team behind Australia’s largest busking festival, Buskers by the Lake and they are pleased to announce AIRWAVES as their first-ever Sunshine Coast event – just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane. Those eager to smell, see, hear and taste live music again will be able to drive in, park up and enjoy a night out under the stars. AIRWAVES sees some of Australia’s best punk, indie and folk performers including The Chats, The Dreggs, Pierce Brothers, Bugs, Sahara Beck and more to be announced hitting the stage across three nights.

Move over NASA and Space X. With ‘outer space’ themed astronaut ice-cream and flying saucers taking over Nambour space station, organisers are encouraging all punters to get creative and don their best galaxy-themed threads.

Known for breaking boundaries and her ‘think outside the box’ ideas, Event Director, Cindy Jensen has been carefully planning the event for months and says the driving force behind the event was an article published by the ABC detailing the very possibility that festivals may not roll out across the country for at least two summers thanks to Covid19. “Reading it set off a rocket launch fire inside me and I wanted to bring some confidence back into an industry that has been so hard hit and affected. I miss traveling and the freedom it brings and the spacesuit represents the feeling COVID-19 confinement has had on me personally”, she says.

Division 10 Councillor David Law said supporting innovative concepts to get the arts and cultural industry up and running as quickly as possible was critical.

“It is fantastic to see local and Queensland performers being offered work in what has been a tough time for our cultural industry. Using new event approaches to leverage our assets such as the Nambour Showgrounds and drive opportunities to showcase our town is a big part of the Reimagine Nambour strategy which I enthusiastically support,” Cr Law said.

There have been a few highly successful drive-in raves and concerts take place across Europe and announcements have just started for roll-outs in Australia over the past weeks. Event Manager, Joel Jensen hopes AIRWAVES will also inspire other organisations around Australia to follow suit, to help re-boot the country’s entertainment industry. “It’s not just the performers who have been severely impacted, it’s everyone from the large scale production companies and venues, to the family-owned festival hire businesses and supply stores,” he says.

The festival includes two events on the evenings of Friday 10 and Saturday 11 July, along with a late Sunday afternoon session on 12 July, kicking off at 4.00pm with tickets for each night sold separately.

All festival-goers will be COVID covered with the team implementing procedures including contactless ticketing, door delivery of the festival’s “Cosmic Crave” snack packs, hand sanitiser distribution thanks to Greenfest Solutions and constant reminders of the 1.5metre distancing by the sub-station crew.

Sunshine Coast Council have been integral in helping bring the vision to life. The Sunshine Coast is a true events destination and a place that celebrates with live music year ’round, with Caloundra Music Festival, The Big Pineapple Music Festival and Buskers by the Lake on the region’s annual events calendar.

Parking spaces on the Nambour Showgrounds shuttle deck are extremely limited and on sale now through OzTix, on the Airwaves Festival Instagram and Facebook pages, as well as through http://www.airwavesfestival.com.au/

Endearing indie-folkster Harper Bloom releases single and video for ‘Walk My Way’

by the partae June 6, 2020
written by the partae

“Good luck resisting Harper Bloom’s storytelling nous”
– Dave Ruby Howe, triple j Unearthed

“Bloom’s immersive works easily portray some of the finest songwriting in this country right now” – Tonedeaf

“Against a backdrop of acoustic guitars, electronic flourishes and energetic percussion, Bloom’s sincere vocals paint an intimate, expressive portrait” – Music Feeds

Following the April release of her heartening debut single ‘Mary’, Perth-bred, Melbourne-based indie-folkster Harper Bloom has today released ‘Walk My Way’ – a charming and playful take on the sense of self-doubt that tends to accompany a one-sided crush.

A delightful acoustic-driven vignette, ‘Walk My Way’ is the second single taken from Bloom’s forthcoming EP, Faith, Sex and Skin, where she teamed up with prolific Australian producer Benjamin McCarthy (Gordi, Thelma Plum, G-Flip, Alex The Astronaut), who enhanced Bloom’s pared-back acoustic songs with electro-pop flourishes.

According to Bloom, ‘Walk My Way’ is a light-hearted spin on overcoming feelings of self-doubt when negotiating hierarchical differences in a budding relationship.

“I think ’Walk My Way’ applies to anyone who feels like they’re not good enough for someone, whether that’s due to wealth, looks, gender, etc.,” says Bloom.

“As the song unfolds, it reveals that learning to overcome self-doubt is important, because there are beautiful people in this world who see through all those superficial things and choose to love you, despite the judgement of others.”

Going hand-in-hand with the single is the video for ‘Walk My Way’, featuring Bloom and her real-life girlfriend in their Brunswick home. Once again, Bloom has enlisted the talent of director and cinematographer David Hansen, who in the midst of stage three restrictions, brought ‘Walk My Way’ to life.

Stay tuned for more news about Bloom’s upcoming EP, Faith, Sex and Skin.

Where are you currently based? I’m currently based in Manchester, UK How did you first start playing music? It was a natural progression which stemmed from just loving music, to then going out to clubs, buying a set of turntables, then CDjs and I’ve not looked back since.  How has your COVID19 experience been so far? It’s been up and down really, I’ve kept myself really busy doing things I’ve been meaning to do for ages but I’m slowly running out of those jobs now. We recently moved into a new home at the start of the year so we’ve been doing lots on the house.  What have you been working on recently? Lately in the studio, I’ve been working on a new sound, something a bit darker with more of an old school feeling. I don’t have any definitive dates for when the new stuff I’ve been working on in lockdown will be released, but I’ve been enjoying making it.  Your single 'Deeper Expectancy' is coming out on Umek's 1605 Label on May 29th, what influenced the sound and songwriting for this track? I wanted to make something deeper and darker than my previous work. I knew that I wanted a hypnotic sequenced bassline with fast-rolling drums, something for the darker sides of sets and late nights. Where and when did you record/produce? In my studio in Manchester, which is above my music school. It was done around February time before all of this started. I was playing shows and had some longer sets that needed records for transitioning into darker and deeper sounds.  What programs/equipment  do you use to record/produce? D16 Punchbox, Trillian for Bass, Rob Papen Preditor 2, Rozzer Sequencer, Soundtoys, Breeze 2 rebverb, UAD mastering plugs. You have another release coming out soon on Terminal M, please tell us more: It’s a 4 track EP, which ranges from Acid to melodic, to trancey rave stuff - bit of something for everyone on that release.  You've just launched your monthly radio show 'Moments In Time Radio' how did the radio show come about and how has the experience been so far? I’m really enjoying it, especially with having a lack of shows at the moment. It’s nice to plan it out and record something.  What do you have planned for 'Moments In Time Radio'? To start with it’ll be one per month but once we have it established, I plan for it to go weekly and feature a lot more guests and people who are releasing on the label, as well as some friends from the industry.  Please tell us about your new sample pack: The first sample pack of the series has been done as a Rudosa style sample pack, with signature sounds and loops, even vocals done by myself for people to use in records. It’s perfect for beginners straight through to established producers. Who are you listening to at the moment? Im listening to more music than ever at the moment. I’m buying more in lockdown than I would be if I were touring as usual - it’s crazy. I’ve been getting vinyl records delivered as I’ve had more time to get on discogs and dig around on YouTube - I’ve almost completed Bandcamp haha.    I’ve really gotten into some faster-paced music the past few months, old school sounds, Alignment, Blicz, Airod, Hadone, Inhalt Der Nacht just to name a few. What do you like to do away from music? I play golf, go for walks, bike rides (when I don’t fall off and break my bike). I spend a lot of time catching up with friends so looking forward to doing that again when lockdown is lifted.  What's planned for 2020? I think we will start by planning a UK tour as I feel this will be the first place, venue wise, to open up to me, then start looking to rebuild things in Europe and worldwide.  Favourite food and place to hangout? There are so many great places just in Manchester alone to try, and as soon as they reopen I’ll be going to many of my favorite places to support them. If I had to pick one I’d say Cottonoplois in the Northern Quarter, but I will be doing a food and booze crawl asap haha. I’m also really starting to miss Ibiza and with no trips planned it’s quite depressing, so I will be heading over there as soon as possible.

The first sample pack of the series has been done as a Rudosa style sample pack, with signature sounds and loops, even vocals done by myself for people to use in records. It’s perfect for beginners straight through to established producers.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Im listening to more music than ever at the moment. I’m buying more in lockdown than I would be if I were touring as usual – it’s crazy. I’ve been getting vinyl records delivered as I’ve had more time to get on discogs and dig around on YouTube – I’ve almost completed Bandcamp haha.

What’s planned for 2020?

Lovefest 2020. – Seems like not all ships have sunk for music lovers and there is one tiny beacon of hope. Its name is Lovefest in Serbia. Serbia is the only country to have big open-air music festivals this year and first ever to be held, after coronavirus pandemic started, is Lovefest. Lovefest will be held from 6th till 8th of August this summer in a dreamy green location of a small town called Vrnjacka Banja. The well-known city park lake will host artists such as Michael Bibi, currently one of the most wanted DJs in the world, Patrick Topping, Loco Dice, as well as the trio of Paris underground’s hottest producers - Apollonia. This year, Lovefest could be a good substitute for Berlin's Panorama Bar because of the artist such as Jamie Tiller and Tama Sumo, Lakuti, Call Super,  who will definitely bring that Berghain vibe. But that's not all, more famous artists and headliners are yet to come in the days ahead, so stay tuned. Ticket sale Since just today the Serbian government announced that there are no restrictions on the number of people present at the gatherings, Lovefest will be able to welcome every music lover from Europe. Another great news also is that there is no quarantine required in Serbia so this could be your destination to go this summer. Also, from Monday, June 8th, it will be possible to buy three days tickets - regular ticket package costs 34 euros, and the VIP ticket for all three days is 69 euros. That will be possible via www.lovefest.rs, tibbaa.com, and Resident Advisor. “Play it right” In accordance with the situation in the world, Lovefest has decided to “Play it right” this year, and fitted the slogan of this year's edition properly. In that way, they invite visitors to behave responsibly and in accordance with the measures. Fast facts about Lovefest  Lovefest is an electronic music festival that hosts more than 75.000 people in three days each year, and this year will be its 14th edition. The festival has five music stages and more than 150 artists hosting every summer. Only last year, the festival hosted huge names such as Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers, Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler, Joseph Capriati, and many upcomers such as Enrico Sangiuliano.  In case you have not yet chosen your summer destination, a substitute for sunny beaches, and warm sea could definitely be Lovefest and of course Serbia’s capital that never ever sleeps Belgrade.

M.Scorgie Releases ‘The Traveller’ Premiere

by the partae June 6, 2020
written by the partae
“The Traveller is an upbeat, ethereal, minimalist, analog component driven track juxtaposed with sentiments of decaying, unhealthy relationships” – M.Scorgie
Nice Marmot PR

M. Scorgie is a musician and composer born in the hinterlands of Alberta and now residing in Vancouver. He started writing and recording music in the mid-to-late 2000s while running a boutique record label, Rectangle Records. After a catastrophic loss of over 50 songs, he stopped writing, sold his instruments and focused on a cooking career. Having the means to invest in electronic, analog components again, M. decided to dive back in to making music in the late 2010’s and his first release ‘Sounds Of Freedom’ was recorded. Written between 2018-2020, Sounds Of Freedom, composed on analog instruments, is one part a post-apocalyptic, urban-landscape soundtrack and one part minimalist, ethereal electronic hits. Influences on SOF range from Haruomi Hosono, John Maus, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream to classical and modern piano composers. ‘Sounds Of Freedom’ will be released on Tiger Mountain Records in June of 2020.

Ivy Flindt – Give It A Break

Give It A Break is a stunning release from duo Ivy Flindt, made up of Cate Martin and Micha Holland. The release is reminiscent of Dido, The National and Lucy Dacus, whilst still retaining it’s individuality. The video is an open invitation to escape the world we are currently living in, with a wealth of nostalgic nature shots, parting clouds and soaring birds. The single initially opens as an easy going ballad before developing into altogether darker endeavour, and it’s narrative fits neatly into today’s climate.

Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L – Ballerina & Blackbird

Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L is navigating through his own universe. The Brooklyn born hip-hop artist began writing as a form of self-recognition, but the floaty ambivalence of his music paired with his gymnastic lyrical abilities immediately caught the ears of the people around him. Producer WhatsHisName, and member of Free Creation Label, provides the interplanetary vibe that rides underneath all of his. This time around, it’s in the form of Ballerina & Blackbird.

John Dhali – Thought Train

John Dhali hails from the North West of England, but is currently somewhere in Cheshire on his once London-bound narrowboat. The change in journey is down to the change in all of our circumstances, and the artist has a new musical offering which carries a message for all those in isolation. The track, titled Thought Train, is all about staying connected in these darkened times. The release has been written in aid of the Shiva Trust and you can support their work via John’s go fund me linked here. Check out ‘Thought Train’

The Beamish Brothers – Nature

The Beamish Brothers, (comprised of Ben and Jeremy Beamish) bring their usual songwriting flair with their first release of 2020, and it couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time. All eyes are on them after they teased their new anthemic and environmentally conscious single “Nature” on national TV during the Eurovision Australia Decides broadcast, for which they were runner-ups.

SilverCoast – Try

SilverCoast are a rock outfit hailing from Scotland, whose influences stretch from Feeder, You Me At Six and Neck Deep. Formed back in 2012, the Inverness 5-piece’s newest single Try is a hard-hitting punkish single, with pop elements in its core. With sing-along chorus and hooky guitar riffs, the band look set to make their mark this year. Listen to the single.

Perfectparachutepicture – They Only Want

Perfectparachutepicture, or PPP, formed back in 2013 and the duo is made up of Kyle Ernest (Drums, Vocals) and Edward James (Bass). Despite their less than familiar set-up, the pair lose nothing in sheer power, with each riff proving more anthemic than the last. This comes to the fore in They Only Want, which is the bands first release since their self-released album ‘No Modern Desire’ towards the tail-end of 2019.

Stock Footage – You And Me

Formed in Chicago back in 2014, Stock Footage are reeling from their triumphant single ‘Broken Together’, which has received notable acclaim within the blog community and success on DSPs. Their latest offering, You and Me, is a cut from a similar cloth and is a culmination of pop flair and noughties indie charm.

Lachie A’rden – Into The Night

Australian born producer, Lachie A’rden, is set to release his uplifting EDM single Into The Night. The release follows ‘Sacred’, Lachie’s stunning debut which drew acclaim from The Noise Gate, The release is primarily guided by an inspiring vocal, perfectly placed above driving percussion and a carefully crafted bed of strings and synths. Packed with driving rhythms and relentless bass grooves make this track the perfect pre-summer anthem.

written by the partae

GAWP returns to Heldeep Records with his brand-new mystical banger ‘Moon’. A stunning result of a lifetime spent in the studio perfecting his craft, ‘Moon’ is another stunning GAWP production completed with a bouncy baseline, distorted kicks, electrifying elements and enchanting vocals. The blend of his signature unique sounds proves that GAWP has found his area of expertise and is here to stay.

A spine-tingling intro charged with cosmic ambience showcases a distinct female voice, demanding a celestial voyage, to create the perfect stellar sensation. A thrilling snare roll backed by throbbing synths and looped vocals leads toward a dramatic drop that keeps on giving. With a dark bassline, kinetic samples, and galactic synths little else is needed to see this track secure a prime spot among dance music enthusiasts.

After releasing two tracks on Heldeep Records last year, GAWP’s latest opus ‘Moon’ is a perfect follow-up to his already unique and well-established sounds. It proves that GAWP’s relentless pursuit of perfection rewards.

‘Moon’ is out now on Heldeep Records!

Then, sure enough, the melodies worm their way deeper into your head, you notice little nuances, and the songs prove themselves to be more enduring and bulletproof than you could’ve previously imagined." – Stereogum "Our new album Sideways to New Italy is out today. It feels strange releasing music with so much happening in the world right now, but we couldn’t be more proud and excited. This is a hopeful record, true to the people and places that shaped us. We hope you get something out of it too. There are too many people who helped us to list here. We can’t wait to play these songs live in the new world. Look after each other and play it loud."  Love, Joe, Joe, Fran, Marcel, Tom. Rolling Blackouts C.F.   Today Ivy League Records are thrilled to release Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s triumphant second album, Sideways to New Italy – a stunning return for the Melbourne five-piece. Featuring tracks ‘She’s There’, ‘Cars In Space’, ‘Falling Thunder’ & the anthemic, ‘Cameo’ – Sideways To New Italy shows Rolling Blackouts C.F. at the peak of their powers; a timeless record that’s universal yet threaded through with personal histories, born of dislocation but with a distinct geographic identity.  To coincide with the album release is the announcement of new single ‘Cameo’, which begins with open guitar strums and Fran Keaney's lone voice, before building to a swirling roar – a stellar showcase of the band’s instrumental and lyrical prowess.   “This is a love song. It’s about reaching through time portals,” says Keaney. “The lyrics were pieced together over about a year like a little puzzle. I found the first pieces in Rushworth, and the last pieces in Darwin.” Sideways to New Italy is set to follow in the footsteps of the band’s internationally acclaimed debut album, Hope Downs (2018), with praise for STNI coming in from MOJO (4/5), Dork (4/5), Upset (5/5), Uncut (9/10), Rough Trade’s ‘Album of the Month’, The Music’s Album Of The Week + more to be announced.  The eponymous New Italy is a village near New South Wales’s Northern Rivers – the area Tussie is from. A blink-and-you'll-miss-it pit-stop of a place with fewer than 200 residents, it was founded by Venetian immigrants in the late-1800s and now serves as something of a living monument to Italians' contribution to Australia, with replica Roman statues dotted like souvenirs on the otherwise rural landscape. The parallel between these remnants of home and the band's own attempts to maintain connections and create familiarity during their disorienting time on the road were not lost on Russo. “These are the expressions of people trying to find home somewhere alien, in someone else’s land. Trying to create utopia in an imperfect world.”   In addition to the specific town, the songs on the record exist variably in Melbourne (‘Beautiful Steven’), Los Angeles (‘The Cool Change’), Darwin (‘Cameo’), the tiny town of Rushworth (‘Not Tonight’) and the driver's seat of a car at a drive-in movie (‘Cars in Space’). Rolling Blackouts C.F are well-versed in a detailed and cinematic style of songwriting, where landscapes, interactions and memories materialise as characters and stories that reflect the tight, swirling guitars that emote alongside the trio's voices. A not-to-be-missed performance by Rolling Blackouts C.F. at the hallowed turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (aka MCG), with special guest Stella Donnelly, will air tonight as part of the final episode of The State of Music. Tune in from 7.30pm AEST HERE. The brilliant Sideways To New Italy is out now on digital, CD & Sub Pop’s limited edition Loser blue vinyl. To coincide with the album release is the announcement of new single ‘Cameo’, which begins with open guitar strums and Fran Keaney’s lone voice, before building to a swirling roar – a stellar showcase of the band’s instrumental and lyrical prowess.

“This is a love song. It’s about reaching through time portals,” says Keaney. “The lyrics were pieced together over about a year like a little puzzle. I found the first pieces in Rushworth, and the last pieces in Darwin.”
Sideways to New Italy is set to follow in the footsteps of the band’s internationally acclaimed debut album, Hope Downs (2018), with praise for STNI coming in from MOJO (4/5), Dork (4/5), Upset (5/5), Uncut (9/10), Rough Trade’s ‘Album of the Month’, The Music’s Album Of The Week + more to be announced.

The eponymous New Italy is a village near New South Wales’s Northern Rivers – the area Tussie is from. A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it pit-stop of a place with fewer than 200 residents, it was founded by Venetian immigrants in the late-1800s and now serves as something of a living monument to Italians’ contribution to Australia, with replica Roman statues dotted like souvenirs on the otherwise rural landscape. The parallel between these remnants of home and the band’s own attempts to maintain connections and create familiarity during their disorienting time on the road were not lost on Russo. “These are the expressions of people trying to find home somewhere alien, in someone else’s land. Trying to create utopia in an imperfect world.”

In addition to the specific town, the songs on the record exist variably in Melbourne (‘Beautiful Steven’), Los Angeles (‘The Cool Change’), Darwin (‘Cameo’), the tiny town of Rushworth (‘Not Tonight’) and the driver’s seat of a car at a drive-in movie (‘Cars in Space’). Rolling Blackouts C.F are well-versed in a detailed and cinematic style of songwriting, where landscapes, interactions and memories materialise as characters and stories that reflect the tight, swirling guitars that emote alongside the trio’s voices.

A second vinyl pressing in black is also available to fans to pre-order.

GUARD releases video for Wine ‘N Die

“With his enterprising nature, and some serious production chops, we can see Guard doing pretty well for himself.”
– Tone Deaf

”…a trippy electro-pop wonderland”
– Music Feeds

“The future of pop music is here, so jump on board early”
– Pilerats

Following the release of his single earlier this year, Guard makes a return with a colourful yet sombre clip for ‘Wine N Die’, premiered via Purple Sneakers.

Directed by LA-based director Gianfranco Svagelj, the music video cleverly plays on the dark lyrics of the track, showing the raw side of mental health, whilst juxtaposing with bright colours and kaleidoscopic visuals. Gianfranco explains: “This is our third project together and I’m excited because there is no better time frame for this to be released as so many of us not only are struggling with this pandemic and being stuck at home but also dealing with the ups and downs of social media and the effects it can have on our moods, feelings and mental health.”

The video, in particular, explores the duality of Guard’s character; an online personality with a large following, but also the vulnerability of a man trying to navigate mental health and precarious relationships.

“‘Wine N Die’ is a look behind the scenes of me trying to look cool online while secretly self-destructing. I think we all to a certain extent use social media to portray a heightened version of ourselves. Its offers an escape from this apocalyptic situation. But it’s important to keep your habits in check & look after your mental well being… you don’t have to pretend to be okay like I have in the past,” says Guard.

His latest release ‘Gaslight’ premiered via triple’s unearthed TOPS and online via Cool Accidents, praise from PAPER Magazine and support nationally across community radio. His past singles ‘Pineapple Express’ has amassed over 3 million streams and ‘Phantom’, ‘Wine N Die’ and ‘Martyr’ have been added to Spotify editorial playlists Chill af, Study Zone, Indie Arrivals & Pop Edge.

Watch the new music video for ‘Wine N Die’ is OUT NOW.
Guard’s debut album The Identified Patient is out Fri 26 June.
