Where are you currently based?
The Gold Coast.
How did you first start playing music?
I started playing in a duo with my dad when I was fourteen, he’s a great singer and guitarist and has been playing all of his life, so within a year of learning how to play guitar he invited me to start working with him, it was a great experience being able to start so long and get a head start in the industry.
What’s been happening recently?
Recently I’ve been in the studio and have just released my new single.
Your latest release after coming back from New York ‘Hand On Heart’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
I think being so far away from home and my past few years in Australia really gave me some time to reflect on how I was feeling about a really huge shift in my life.
How did you go about writing Hand On Heart?
I wrote it in my bedroom in Brooklyn while I was living in New York, the chords just came to me while I was doing some looping, and the lyrics and melody came really quickly. The basic demo was recorded within an hour.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
I worked with my amazing producer Joel Myles at hunting grounds in Brisbane, and it was mastered by Matt Bartlem.
What did you get upto in New York?
I spent a lot of time just exploring the city, going to places of cultural significance, and obviously a lot of writing. It was a very special time.
How does it feel to be back in Brisbane?
It’s been great being back in Australia, I really missed the sunshine and the ocean and just the overall quality of life we have here.
Please tell us about any new projects:
I’m working towards finishing my second album.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?
More music being released and more live performances.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’m loving listening to Boygenius at the moment, they are such an amazing group.
Favourite food and place to hangout?
I love going out to brunch at Medley in Brisbane. It is a perfect breakfast spot right on the brisbane river.
