“Originally I had a much more elaborate, narrative-based concept, where I was this woman running away from a cult, (hence the tracksuit and Nikes), to be filmed in Oildale and Posey where my partner, Joe, is fixing up an old cabin. At the last minute, we decided to drive to Lake Isabella because of supposed good visuals there. I was grumbling all the way there about how the location wouldn’t fit with my shot list, but when we got there and I started dancing on rocks, we just threw away the shot list and made it up as we went along. The editing was fun because I’m teaching myself Premiere Pro (thanks YouTube tutorials) and I got to throw every hilarious video effect at it. We were also heavily influenced by Laraaji’s videos, obviously.”
Cornelius first began writing the songs that would comprise Distance after moving from Melbourne, Australia to Los Angeles. At the time, she was excited to start fresh after several years as the primary songwriter in the band Teeth and Tongue. But the distance she addresses over the album is hardly a geographical one. The journey over Distance is a celebration of newness. New beginnings and new perspectives on endings. From the chaos of a vagabond lifestyle to expecting a child just weeks before the albums’ release and researching how to tour as a mother in the coming years.
While the sonic tones and textures on the album evoke certain classic staples of Americana, soul and rock and roll, Cornelius’ lyrics anchor the songs to a deeply personal place. She sings of a miscarriage, a messy romantic affair, and the frustrations that come with having a partner. Distance finds a deft songwriter analyzing the space between society’s expectations for her and her own dreams, the illusion of love and the reality of disappointment, and a past she is ready to let go of and a future she could have hardly imagined.

The spectacular fusion of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Steve Aoki on this sugary J-pop-dance track delivers a technicolor extravaganza that is brimming with the larger-than-life personalities of two of music’s most distinctive superstars. The Japanese pop queen’s original song reimagined by EDM’s supercharged hit-maker producer is something so overly eccentric that it will have you vividly fall in love with ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’.
Bringing his trademark energy, Aoki’s remix triggers the pace of the record from the opening few bars which lifts into an almost immersive vibrancy of cosmic sounds. Aoki’s rendition of ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’ swings in favour of a speedy melodic vibe that is hyper-catchy and ties effortlessly with Kyary’s cute vocals.
First released in 2013, ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’ has become a worldwide phenomenon with over 65million YouTube views to date. The track was also featured on animated movie ‘Sing’ featuring Matthew McConaughey and Scarlett Johansson and the latest John Wick movie: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. It is also confirmed to feature in the TV commercial and end theme for the forthcoming video game cartoon animation, Ninjala.
About Kyary Pamyu Pamyu:
Originally a fashion blogger and model, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has become one of the most exciting cultural sensations in the world today. Her attention-grabbing style and bubbling cuteness have led to many of music’s biggest pop-queens, most notably Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, naming her as an inspiration. But whilst Kyary’s“girly dream world” is unmissable, her music is equally unavoidable. Four albums, a string of greatest hits and several world tours under her belt already, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is far from a passing trend. Having a digital fan base of more than 7million fans makes Kyary one of the most followed Japanese artists. Add to that her numerous accolades from the likes of Vogue, Fuse TV and MTV mean Kyary is one of the country’s most celebrated too.
About Steve Aoki:
Steve Aoki, the two-time Grammy-nominated producer/DJ is one of today’s most successful American cross-genre artists, collectively counting 2.6 billion music streams on Spotify, with an additional 355 million music streams on YouTube. Title: Forbidden Lovers
Label: Ultra Records
Current circumstances have many of us feeling more separated from those we care about than ever – something that MYRNE knows all about. The Singapore-based producer’s newest track “Forbidden Lovers” is an ode to the physical and societal bonds that keep people apart, told through a cinematic and emotive sonic landscape. It opens with instrumental chords and the sounds of birds chirping as if the listener has just woken up somewhere peaceful in springtime – but the lyrics quickly tell us that something, or rather someone, is missing from the equation. MYRNE wrote “Forbidden Lovers” while on tour in the United States away from his partner for long periods, and the quality of the song’s dreamy and ethereal melodies reflects his wistful mindset. This is the first single from his upcoming EP, which is coming soon. “Forbidden Lovers” is out now on Ultra Records to soothe any missing pieces of your life.
“With ‘Forbidden Lovers,’ I wanted to write about the physical and societal bonds that keep people apart. Some people can’t be with each other because of distance; for some, backward laws keep love forbidden. The idea for the song came to me in a hotel room while on tour, where I was separated from my partner for long periods. The two skies in the artwork are pictures we both sent to each other, of Singapore and Los Angeles.” – MYRNE
Singapore-based MYRNE first made his appearance on the scene with his 2015 debut EP “Softsins” on behemoth label Mad Decent, inaugurating himself as the first Asian artist on the label. His indie-electronic style comes from his training as a classical musician and his own isolation in his home country; MYRNE‘s style is both sophisticated and easy to listen to, incorporating elements from multiple genres. In 2017, he released the seminal electronic-indie LP “B4NGER PROJECT” with longtime collaborator Gentle Bones on Universal Music, followed by co-production work on RL Grime‘s “I Wanna Know” in 2018. After establishing himself as a talented force through these three projects, MYRNE has earned an impressive roster of live performances on his resume, including Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland, to name a few. He has also played to thousands in his home circuit in Southeast Asia, China, and the United States, such as Hard Summer, My Life Everyday, and more. Keep an eye out for more singles from MYRNE coming very soon!
Brand new Melbourne-based alternative trio Hammer & Bird have today released their debut single ‘Pull Me Back,’ a song that laments the discomfort of simply going through life’s motions and knowing it isn’t right.
Combining crisp guitars, soft strings and emotive male lead vocals, ‘Pull Me Back’ perfectly demonstrates the band’s influences from both orchestral and alternative music. Sombre but driving, ‘Pull Me Back’ is “a song about the persistent feeling of being out of place. When the routine of what is expected is at odds with your inner private world,” as described by Thomas E. Flatman, lead vocalist.
The releases with an accompanying music video edited by Flatman and filmed in his back shed. The video stunningly captures the intimacy and emotionality of the song, featuring projections of images invoked by the lyrics onto band members as they perform.
Hammer & Bird is the second project where Thomas E. Flatman, Mark D’Angelo and Antonio Sanciolo have combined their talents: the trio previously performed together in the band Durbeyfield, achieving support slots for the likes of Clare Bowditch, Missy Higgins and The Whitlams and performances at various Victorian and interstate music festivals. Each member has also developed successful individual careers in music: Antonio has composed music for independent film and television shows, Thomas has released music as a solo artist and in indie-electro duo The Gall, and Mark co-owns The Backlot Studios, working with artists ranging from John Cleese to Jimmy Barnes and labels such as Sony, Warner, Universal and Neon Records.
‘Pull Me Back’ is only the first taste of much more music to be released by Hammer & Bird: in fact, they have a whole album of new material being prepared for release later in 2020. Entitled Rest For The Wicked, it will not be one to miss.
Evoking comparisons to Seachange-era Beck and Nick Drake, Hammer & Bird is a blank slate ready to make a unique mark on the Australian alternative scene.
‘Pull Me Back’ is OUT NOW.

Stephane Ghenacia – “As residents of Ibiza we have seen and felt the struggles of many including close friends during the winter months which can be especially tough. Particularly in the face of Coronavirus and the forward facing effects it will have on the summer season of 2020. Some families would not survive without Food For Ibiza. When I was approached about this project there was no hesitation to be involved. This beautiful island has given us so much to be thankful for and I’m always looking for ways to give back. We’re all really pleased with how many figureheads of the Ibiza scene came forward to donate music for this very special and much needed initiative”
Hello friends.
We live in Ibiza and deeply love our island!
Just a couple of weeks into the quarantine Grego G suggested the idea of joining the love we have for the music and the time we currently spend staying physically distant from each other, to come virtually closer around a common project.
Stephane Ghenacia and Alex Garcia loved the idea and joined forces to take advantage lock-down situation to help people, despite the distance.
Coming together in these times of trouble allows us to keep a social link, adding humanity to this never foreseen situation.
We have decided to help the FOOD FOR IBIZA organisation, which does a remarkable job supporting the families who face difficulties in Ibiza.
For many different reasons, this island means a lot to us; therefore, we care a lot for its inhabitants.
The people who work and live here contribute to preserving the exceptional and unique identity of Ibiza. The Ibiza people and kids are the future of this magical island, so we have to take care of them. We have created a Non-Profit Label exclusively dedicated to this cause and project, and all the profits will be donated to the FOOD FOR IBIZA association.
The principle is simple: unite as many artists as possible to create music and create a direct beneficial impact in the community.

Title: Miss U More Than U Know
Label: Hollywood Records
Shortly after releasing “Bésame (I Need You)” with TINI and Reik, R3HAB teams up with “Descendants” star Sofia Carson for their third track together, the radio-friendly dance-pop fusion single “Miss U More Than U Know.” The dynamic producing powerhouse and talented songstress created an emotive gem that delivers breezy melodies and an instrumental-driven bassline perfect for easy listening. “Miss U More Than U Know” carries a wistful, nostalgic vibe from Carson‘s heartfelt lyrics, which discuss a former flame whose memory still lingers long after they’ve been gone. The new single follows R3HAB and Sofia Carson‘s previous two collaborations, the pop-influenced “I Luv U” from last winter, as well as 2018’s “Rumors.” These two never fail to produce stunning music together, so keep an eye out for future releases!
Over the last eight years, the Dutch/Moroccan artist Fadil El Ghoul – better known as R3HAB – has established himself as a leader at the forefront of modern electronic music. His talent has been called the “future of the craft” by the likes of Forbes and Billboard, and he’s circuited the globe’s best clubs and festivals, all without the backing of a formal record label. In 2017, R3HAB independently released his debut album “Trouble” through his imprint CYB3RPVNK, which amassed over a half-billion streams globally and officially placed R3HAB among electronic music’s heavy hitters. He made number 14 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list in 2019, topping the charts with tracks like “Lullaby” and “Hold On Tight,” while his sophomore album “The Wave,” revealing more complex, emotional and experimental layers of himself, has amassed over 250 million streams on Spotify alone. In 2019 R3HAB‘s “All Around The World” with A Touch of Class quickly became his biggest ever record already topping 200M streams across platforms and achieving gold & platinum status in 8 countries. It was followed by “Flames,” R3HAB‘s collaboration with ZAYN.
Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
Melbourne. I don’t really know if there’s a scene here. There are plenty of people making great music despite the odds, but it’s no Laurel Canyon.
By teaching myself how to play along to Bob Dylan songs. Then Bacharach songs. Then I started writing.
Well I made 5 Oh Mercy albums and felt like a change. Making things more challenging is sometimes a good thing. I’m hoping this is one of those times.
Well I worked out pretty early that writing, arranging and recording is fun and I didn’t want to share that fun. You know – dilute the experience. The hardest thing to do is to sing it like I hear it in my head. I never get there. My most rewarding thing is witnessing an idea come together without having to rely on anyone else’s expertise.
Well the arpeggio has been kicking around for years. I’d just been waiting for the appropriate bed for it to lie on. The string motif is kinda right out of a B grade 60’s tv theme and the words were written from the perspective of a medical diagnosis.
4 songs. Post Quasi Cocktail Dance Music.
At my house. I mostly made it over the year of 2019. It took a while for me to transition out of the way I’d generally approach making Oh Mercy songs.
Well that’s a photo I took on my Hasselblad 500cm. I develop and scanned the film in the same room I make the music. It’s a half second exposure with a little movement from the subject. Miles from Bad Dreems did the design work. I think he did an excellent job.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
The Blue Nile
I love listening to podcasts, reading, watching the footy, taking pictures, jogging and playing squash. Other things too. I got plenty of things in my life that bring me joy. I’m lucky.

Released Friday 24 January 2020, single ‘I Should Know Better’ is a pastel pop-loaded, RnB filled jam that serves up an explosion of kaleidoscope synths and confetti covered beats. With its catchy hooks and pulsing bass line heartbeat, this spicy number written with the pop-prowess of Evangeline, has been getting hips shaking and arms flailing across dance floors and festival stages. Sitting above all of the heavily pigmented makeup palette of sounds is the warm honey-soaked vocal lines of Sully, clearly within her sonic sphere of comfort.
“I’ve written for so many different projects over the years – from blues/rock to folk and everything in between. But I keep coming back to pop music,” she says. “At the end of the day, I’ve known forever that I’m completely addicted to the complex simplicities of the pop writing process. Now, I get to throw myself head-first into that love.”
‘I Should Know Better’ sifts through the trials faced from toxic behaviour and the inevitable realisation of self-worth.
“This track follows an incident with a cocky mutual friend who I had kindly offered to drop into the city after a party. After some questionable comments towards me the guy flipped his shit in the backseat of my car with a tirade of abuse hauled my way. It was at that point that I made the conscious decision to never let an asshole get the better of me.”
The music video reflects just that. Captured as a one-take tracking shot by Gary Robertson of Jarrah Film, the ‘I Should Know Better’ video screams ambience with the dim lighting and pops of neon pink and purple serving as the background to a tense narrative, as the tracking shot lens follows Sully through her house, moving through the tension and uneasy dynamic of her relationship. Sully looks every bit of a pop superstar in the clip. Styled by Geelong based artist stylist, Sara De La Cruz, she sinks effortlessly into her newfound seat at the head of the pop table.
Watch Sully’s ‘I Should Know Better’ now.

Season one of the 180 Grams podcast uncovers the highs and lows and untold stories from Warrandyte locals to international rock’n’soul group; The Teskey Brothers.
180 grams is the weight of a collector’s edition vinyl record. Unlike the stories in the show, 180-gram records glide smoothly on turntables thanks to the weight.
Across six episodes, as the debut season of 180 Grams delves into the making of The Teskey Brothers’ acclaimed sophomore studio album Run Home Slow – listeners are taken on the journey from pre-production all the way through to sold-out international tours.
180 Grams is a tag-along adventure of creative struggle, teenage friendship and global fame with a universally loved band from the country town of Warrandyte, Victoria. Join music journalist and the Run Home Slow podcast host, Mikey Cahill, each Tuesday over the next six weeks as The Teskey Brothers bare all in learning the ropes of the music business and the pressures of making a second album filled with nuance, tension and carefully crafted songs.
The podcast is filled with little treasures for The Teskey Brothers super fans, including a pattern in the instrumental music used throughout the six-episode series. In order of appearance on the album, instrumental tracks are used to score the narration and guests in each episode: ‘Let Me Let You Down’ (track 1) before switching to stems from ‘Carry You’ for the second half.
Many people who work intimately with the band were interviewed for the series; 32 in total across the USA, UK, Germany and Australia including Josh Teskey (vocals and rhythm guitar), Sam Teskey (lead guitar), Brendon Love (bass guitar) and Liam Gough (drums) who make up The Teskey Brothers. Fun fact: Episode 1 incorporates more than 210 individual bits of audio.
