SLY WITHERS RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO ‘BOUGAINVILLEA’

by the partae November 25, 2020
written by the partae

“Wonderful songwriting that is both aggressive and tender.” – Tone Deaf

“They’ve transformed and blossomed into something remarkably special.” – Pilerats

“Sly Withers have found their own groove, which makes the prospect of a new full-length all the more enticing.” – The Music

In a year where most of the local music industry has been hamstrung by world events, Perth indie rock four-piece, Sly Withers, have bucked the trend and gone from strength to strength. That success only looks certain to continue with the release of their blistering new single, ‘Bougainvillea.’

It follows in the footsteps of ‘Cracks’ – arguably their biggest release to date. That powerful track, which was heralded by fans and media upon release earlier in the year, has quickly found a home on regular rotation at triple j, while continuing to build the national following they had been harvesting over recent years with songs like ‘Lately’ feat. Carla Geneve, ‘Explode Into View’ and ‘Closer.’

Now the band returns with the barnstorming, ‘Bouganvillea’ – a pure slice of punk with yet another swing for the fences chorus, boasting a wall of guitars and backing vocals, thunderous drums and an explosive atmosphere that all combines to form a giant, triumphant, mountain of celebration rock.

LISTEN TO SLY WITHERS’ NEW SINGLE ‘BOUGAINVILLEA’ HERE

Produced by Matt Templeman (Make Them Suffer – Worlds Apart), who has proven to be the X-factor that has unlocked the band’s true studio potential over their most recent singles, ‘Bougainvillea’ is the latest chapter to showcase how Sly Withers has evolved from a local Perth scene favourite, into an act with the potential to become one of the biggest names on the national stage.Theirs is an unavoidably endearing story – going from mates in music class, busking Jack Johnson tunes in shopping malls; through to becoming stalwart of the fertile West Australian music scene winning both WAM and NLMA trophies; and now establishing themselves as a sought after presence on national radio and on stages across Australia and beyond. It’s a heart-warming tale of perseverance, self-belief and mateship that fans can’t help but get behind.

That sense of comradery permeates all their music, in particular the readily identifiable and relatable stories in their lyrics, and it’s what really makes the listener feel a part of the Sly Withers story. It’s also set to be an integral element of all the songs on their forthcoming new album, scheduled for release in the first half of 2021.

“This upcoming album feels like a defining moment in terms of us being able to make the exact kind of album we wanted to make,” says guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Sam Blitvich. “The songs feel like the most accurate representation of our taste and our songwriting that we possibly could have presented at this point in time and we’re really proud of what we’ve created.”

The release of ‘Bougainvillea’ arrives with yet another fantastic video, directed by their friend and regular collaborator, Tim Elphick. Featuring a spectacularly shit talent competition, it does also feature some of the band’s best acting work… although that also could be easily chalked up to the wigs and silly fake moustaches.

Meanwhile, West Australia’s strict boarders has proven to be an advantage, and seen the band return to playing sold out hometown shows the last few months. That is set to continue into the summer, and for tickets and info, head to their website. For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait until 2021 to sing our hearts out with our fists in the air, but thankfully by then we’ll have a full deck of Sly Withers anthems ready to go.

The past couple of months have been pretty crazy for me prepping for my single release as well as writing new songs and coming up with concepts and ideas for music videos as well as other releases.

I remember when everything first started getting serious with COVID I felt so strange definitely deflated because there were certain plans that I had made that got put on hold.

Your house burnt down, please tell us how things have changed for you since:

I tend to tell people that my house burning down in one of the best things that ever happened to me. They call me crazy of course but before my house burnt down I was not in a good place at all.

When I was 16 years old I was on The Voice Australia.

After being eliminated in the battle rounds I didn’t cope well at all.

I suffered from depression & anxiety for 4 years, I couldn’t keep a job, I couldn’t write any music, I didn’t even want to leave my bed.

That all changed when my house burnt down.

It wasn’t over night, I couldn’t just forget about all the things lost.

It was one of the hardest things I ever had to watch.

My mum and I lived in a homeless shelter for 4 weeks following the fire, it really opened my eyes.

Your new single ‘Top Spot’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

I was working as a housekeeper when I wrote Top Spot, I remember the day like it was yesterday.

I remember being so tired whilst driving from one hotel to the next I was working a double shift and had been working crazy hours all week.

I knew why I was doing it I knew that the long hours, the sore feet it was only for one thing and that was so I was able to make music.

I started to think about all the crazy stuff people do to get where they want to be and started writing.

I wanted it to be relatable, quirky & new.

What is your name and role within Harves? My name is Matthew Wright and my role in Harves includes singing/songwriting, playing keys and panicking about things I don’t need to. Where are you currently based? Based in Melbourne, Australia. How did Harves form? Sam and I spent many years sending song files back and forth and loosely collaborating over the internet. Until mid-2020, we didn’t really have a clear vision for what we were attempting to do. Our first single (Do Your Worst) was placed in a film through our publishers, and that was really the catalyst for us getting our shit together. What's been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far? We’ve mostly been writing and preparing for our next release. Covid has certainly made things tougher for us. We’ve worked together in person only a handful of times this year, but in that time we’ve managed to launch the band, and finish and release 2 songs. We’re adapting I guess. Your new single 'The River' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting? Harves take influence from wherever we can. Between the two of us, our taste in music is incredibly broad. We don’t really make a conscious effort to sound any particular way. I think our music is a perfect blend of everything we like, and the River is a great representation of that. How did you go about writing The River? Sam sent through the instrumental idea about a year ago and the vocal came to me almost instantly. It was one of those songs that takes on a life of their own. Apart from some changes the chorus, nearly everything was written within a couple of hours. Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with? We record and produce our own songs. Sam is also Produces/Mixes/Masters by trade. Harves are a pretty self-sufficient unit.  How did you approach the recording process? Due to Covid, The River was recorded entirely from our respective houses. I did the vocals in my bedroom and Sam took care of mostly everything else in his home studio. What does The River mean to you? The River is a metaphor for the place that my mind goes when I create music. It can be a really dark and often lonely place, but coming out the other end is almost always worth it. Who are you listening to at the moment? Right this very second I’m listening to John Coltrane. Also been giving the new HEALTH record a lot of love. We’re both massive fans of nearly everything they do.  What do you like to do away from music? We’re both pretty avid gamers. I’d say we’re nearly as passionate about video games as we are about music. We draw a lot of inspiration from that world. Writing for video game soundtracks is a big goal for us. What's planned for the remainder of 2020 going into 2021? We’ll be spending the rest of the year writing and preparing for our next release. We’re still undecided on what that release will be, but time will tell. Now that Covid restrictions are easing, we’ll no doubt start looking into playing some shows. Favourite food and place to hangout? Honestly, my favourite place to hang out is in the comfort of my own home. I’m a bit agoraphobic, so the thought of going out makes me kinda anxious these days. My favourite food is dill pickles - I could (and often do) eat them all day, every day. https://www.facebook.com/harvesmusic

CLUBBING TV ANNOUNCES CLUBBING.LIVE, A NEW, INTERACTIVE LIVE STREAMING PLATFORM

by the partae November 25, 2020
written by the partae
Over the last 10 years, Clubbing TV has successfully produced and broadcast more than 1500 hours of live streams from all around the globe. From studios, clubs, roof tops and crazy boat parties to some of the biggest festivals in the world, Clubbing TV has hosted impeccable live broadcasts to over 50 different countries where their TV channel is broadcasted. With the lockdowns, the live scene has been forced to rest, but live DJ streams have flourished all over the web on various platforms such as Facebook, Twitch, Youtube and Instagram — all of which have prompted a new wave of online creativity.
Unfortunately, the new content ID policy of these platforms restrains DJs, meaning they often perform DJ sets for their followers but get cut off if they don’t own the music right of the tracks they play. This is a further muting of the voices of artists who are not still not allowed to play in a club, a bar or a festival for sanitary reasons – and now – even online due to copyright restrictions.

These new measures have inspired Clubbing TV to create their own legal and licensed live streaming platform: Clubbing.live.

Clubbing.live is a minimalist live-streaming platform conceived by the team at Clubbing TV for both music lovers and live streamers. Free, easy to use and interactive, Clubbing.live lets dance music fans watch various DJ sets, live performances, talk-shows and 3D virtual experiences every day! The Clubbing.live interactive chat allows users from all over the globe to talk to each other’s during all the live shows or even send audios and animated gifs, re-creating a real participative experience.

Clubbing TV is broadcast on traditional TV (so cable, satellite, DTT, IPTV) in 50 countries around the world and into 100 million households. This means that anyone who plays on Clubbing.live could be selected for broadcast on the main channel internationally and simultaneously. This is a truly unique offering that puts Clubbing.live head and shoulders above the competition in terms of artist exposure.

For the official launch of Clubbing.live, rendez-vous on November, 28th at 8pm CET to watch an exclusive set from Worakis² at Positiv Festival at the wonderful Roman Theater of Orange, France.

Worakls and the cellist Antonin Winter performed an epic live set in front of the Clubbing TV cameras and the show will be broadcasted on Clubbing TV and on Clubbing.live for the very first time. If you were not able to attend any festival in 2020, this show will make you feel like you were there.

Worakls, a French musician and producer, is mostly known for his classic tracks Porto, Salzburg andCloches. He will soon unveil two new big releases: Worakls feat Eivør – Red Dresses (Ben Böhmer Remix) out on Hungry Music on December 11th and Worakls & Rusanda – Storm out on Sonate on December 18th.

Clubbing.live is now open to media partners, clubs, festivals and will be opening soon to all artists willing to live stream on a dedicated music platform.

Media partners, clubs, festivals, promoters – if you want to stream smoothly with a high quality image and sound and no interruption? Please contact us at live@clubbingtv.com for onboarding.

DJs, producers, performers – do you also want to stream smoothly with a high quality of image and sound and no interruption? Feel free to pre-register on www.clubbing.live

And for all music lovers, join us now on Clubbing.live and check our calendar to see what will be your next virtual party!

THE BONNIE DOONS unveil shining sophomore EP release, THE BETWEENERS

LISTEN To THE BETWEENERS : https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/thebonniedoons/the-betweeners-2

Heralding a summer where we all will (hopefully) return to some sense of normalcy, Brisbane five-piece The Bonnie Doons release their much anticipated new EP, The Betweeners.

The four track release from the Brisbane indie group comes rich in groove and rhythm, positioning the young band as formidable champions of this sound out on the East Coast. Across the EP, listeners are able to learn more about this young band, who have developed into one of Brisbane’s brightest acts, pushing soulful songwriting and performance forward.

The music of the EP sits in the same lane as your Ocean Alleys or your Lime Cordiales, yet in the wordplay, cadence and flow of the lyrics against the music, The Bonnie Doons also call on the likes of Erykah Badu, Outkast and Sublime in their artistry.

A record that is rooted in optimism and always to better days, The Betweeners traces the intricacies of relationships and growing up. Recorded at Brisbane’s Alchemix Studios, production was handled by the band’s Kane Kennedy before being sent to ARIA winning engineer Govinda Doyle (Angus and Julia Stone) for mixing and mastering.

“The theme of this EP is to make better decisions; expressed mostly through talk of relationships. It’s important to evaluate your life every so often, and make the decisions that are right for you, not to please others. If it’s the right thing to do, don’t avoid committing to a hard choice because you’re worried about how people will perceive it.” The Bonnie Doons

Warmth surrounds the guitars and percussion throughout the EP, while in Torian Brewer and Kennedy’s vocals, the listener is treated to a strong duo at ease with one another on track. Brewer is a natural on the mic; his cadence flowing naturally as his wordplay construction. Backed by great textured vocals and production, it’s a joy to listen to. EP tracks ‘Supatool’ and ‘JIEM’ provided added reggae notes, leaning heavy on the bass and rhythms, each element easily complementing one another.

“Ultimately it is about being truthful to yourself; to quit deceiving yourself because it’s easier at the time, and having the confidence to stick to your guns. In a day where anxieties are prevalent everywhere, we’re trying to focus on making our actions more deliberate. Don’t just sit back and let life happen to you. We should all be the main character in the movie that is our life.” The Bonnie Doons

PRAISE FOR THE BONNIE DOONS

“Brisbane five piece The Bonnie Doons meld their sun-drenched surf rock and nascent pop influences, making for a groove-laden, incredibly catchy bop for fans of Ocean Alley or Lime Cordiale.”
Music Feeds

“…the Brisbane five-piece deliver an instant summer soundtrack; ‘Fred’ pairs a rich, atmospheric sound with motivational lyrics…”
NME

“With more refined funk and deeper roots grooves, it’s clear that the group are finding themselves comfortably in line with the likes of Ocean Alley and San Cisco.”

Indeed, 2020 was the year that Barnett’s seemingly never-ending global touring schedule ground to a halt. It’s been an opportunity to regroup, think deep and rest. Eventually, it became an opportunity to write and create too.

Now re-emerging, Barnett plans to bring together her band (Bones Sloane, Dave Mudie and newest member Lucy Waldron on cello) to one of Australia’s most extraordinary buildings, the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne for a very special, very beautiful, one-night-only live event.

Working with film-maker Derry Sheehan, Barnett and band will perform smack-bang in the middle of the exhibition hall in one of Melbourne’s most beautiful, landmark buildings. They’ll perform some of her classics and premiere a bunch of brand new compositions.

Tickets go on sale HERE from 9AM AEDT on Friday 27th November, and with no audience in attendance, the only way to see the show will be to buy a ticket to the live stream. In an Australian first, a very select group of fans will also have the opportunity to watch the event live in cinemas across the country concurrent to the live stream.

The concert’s title From Where I’m Standing is taken from a line in Barnett’s song ‘City Looks Pretty’ which was inspired by a period of self-imposed isolation. The song, which appears on her award-winning 2018 release Tell Me How You Really Feel has felt eerily prescient these last few months.

Constructed for the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition, the Royal Exhibition Building was the first Australian building to receive UNESCO World Heritage Listing. This grand event space has been an iconic presence in Barnett’s home city for 140 years and is under the custodianship of Museums Victoria. It was built by David Mitchell, father of famed operatic soprano Dame Nellie Melba, who performed in the building in 1907 and whom Courtney Melba Barnett was named after.

Barnett is also incredibly excited to partner with Driift in their first-ever Australian production. Driift are responsible for recent global streaming events featuring Nick Cave, Kylie Minogue, Niall Horan and Laura Marling.

Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building sits on Country of the Boonwurrung and Woi Wurrung (Wurundjeri) peoples of the eastern Kulin Nations. Courtney Barnett, Look Out Kid, Driift, Milk! Records and Remote Control acknowledge the land’s traditional owners.

The AAM and Warner Music Australia are proud to announce their First Nations Mentorship program for 2020/2021. Commencing in 2014, the program has evolved into a multi-faceted professional development program consisting of peer- to- peer mentorship, essential development workshops and networking opportunities.   This years’ refreshed program has evolved once again, to encompass two different pathways; one for two current First Nations managers at any stage of their career, the second is for one First Nations person interested in artist management. As well as a peer-to-peer mentorship, the program includes a panel of First Nations voices, who will have a frank discussion about sovereignty and the work the greater music industry needs to undertake to ensure that diversity, representation and acknowledgement is safe-guarded into the future.  Mentees will also have the opportunity to have one on one time with specialist team members within the Warner Music family.   Panelists for the 2020/2021 panel discussion are Kabi Kabi and Wiradjuri artist and producer Alethea Beetson, rapper, drummer and speaker from Brewarrina Ryan Dobby and 2019/2020 mentee and AAM member Cerisa Grant. The panel will be held on Friday 4th Dec from 10am - 11.30am (AEDT).   As inequality for our First Nations people within the music industry continues to be highlighted, the AAM and Warner Music Australia hope that this program can equip and enable first peoples to take an active and vital role in Artist Management.   Apply for the AAM/Warner Music First Nations Mentor Program here https://www.aam.org.au/  follow on Twitter | friend on Facebook | forward to a friend

UP LATE ANNOUNCES ‘STARS’ EP, OUT DECEMBER 18 NEW SINGLE ‘FUCK YOU’ ft. HEARTEYES OUT NOW

by the partae November 24, 2020
written by the partae

“That distortion and chaos, mixed with the pop semblance – that dichotomy – that genre-mashing, that’s the EP. That’s Up Late.”
~ Max Pasalic

Fresh from the announce of his new label home, Up Late is announcing his forthcoming EP ‘STARS’ will be released on Friday December 18, alongside the reveal of new cut ‘Fuck You’ ft. Hearteyes today.

The moniker for Wollongong singer-songwriter, producer and visual artist Max Pasalic, Up Late’s latest single features fellow Wollongong artist and longtime friend Hearteyes. Leaning heavily into his flair for alt-rock, Pasalic explains that ‘Fuck You’ is a response to rules and routine and  embodies the DIY ethos both artists hold close to their chest.

“Fuck You is our chance to literally say fuck it to the rules and parameters placed on artists and creators,” he says, adding that this track marks the first “rock song” in the purposefully genre-less Up Late project.

“When I originally wrote this it was just four guitar chords because I honestly suck at guitar. That’s the DIY hardcore attitude – ‘who cares if I can’t play guitar? I can play four chords so fuck it that’s my song’.

“Hearteyes dm’d me after hearing ‘Friends’ and we started re-connecting. I showed him ‘Fuck You’ and he saw the vision immediately and came into the studio the next day with a Chrome Hearts trucker and a tote bag full of beer and tracked his verse in 10 minutes. He’s got true chaotic energy, he’s the human embodiment of relentless creativity.”

In September Up Late marked the first solo project to join the UNFD roster. The upcoming ‘STARS’ EP will mark a complete collection of Up Late’s previous singles from 2020, and feature a reimagined version of his celebrated triple j DIY Supergroup submission ‘Like This’.

After debuting with his comp entry in May, Up Late scored an honourable mention among 900+ other entrants, a nomination as one of the “10 most exciting discoveries of 2020” by triple j and nods from local music media including Pilerats, Blunt Magazine, Music Feeds, MILKY, Depth + more.

Backing it up with inimitable singles ‘FRIENDS’,  ‘u left me on read’ and ‘Alone’, Pasalic continues to flex on his flair for unusual genre blends. Many may remember the 24 year-old as the lead singer of heavy act After Touch, who released various outputs on UNFD in 2017/18, while he also has credits producing for various local and international rap and hip hop artists including the likes of BONES.

‘STARS’ EP is out Friday December 18 via UNFD.

Kids Of Yesterday Release New Single Mad World (Tears For Fears) Debut Album Escape Planet Out This Friday November 27

Today, Sydney punk rock band Kids Of Yesterday release their version of the Tears For Fears hit Mad World. The single is off the bands debut album Escape Planet, out this Friday!

LISTEN TO MAD WORLD

Mad World sees Kids Of Yesterday belt out their own version of the Tears For Fears hit single. A late edition to the album, the cover was added during the last days of recording. Considering what everyone has been going through this year, you can understand why Kids Of Yesterday decided that this song needed a revival. While the track has been covered many times, the band make it their own, starting off acoustic, it develops into an up-tempo punk rock anthem.

Mad World is the third single to be released off the bands debut album Escape Planet, out independently this Friday Nov 27.

Escape Planet was recorded at The Grove studios on the central coast of NSW with producer Jack Nigro (DMA’s, Skegss, Vacations). Kids Of Yesterday have combined elements of Frenzal Rhomb, Rise Against, Frank Turner and NOFX with their own brash form of punk on their debut album. For fans of late 90’s classic punk rock from Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph Records, this will be one of the best Australian punk rock records released this year.

Kids of Yesterday is the brainchild of singer/ guitarist / chief songwriter Duncan Davidson. The band first formed in 2010 in the jam room of a Tempe share-house. Over the years founding members Duncan Davidson and Joseph Lamond have been joined by many talented musicians in the line up, as the band gigged frequently throughout Sydney, while self-releasing several EPs.

ICYMI Kids Of Yesterday have already released two singles from their debut album, Reefer Madness and Woman Of Stars.

ABOUT KIDS OF YESTERDAY

Sydney-based punk rock band KoY (Kids of Yesterday) first formed in 2010 in the jam room of a Tempe share-house. Over the years founding members Duncan Davidson and Joseph Lamond have been joined by many talented musicians in the KoY line up, as the band gigged frequently throughout Sydney, released several EPs, gained high rotation air time on stations such as Triple J Unearthed, headlined Home Grown in 2013, and toured interstate before taking a break over the last few years.  Ten whole years may have passed since those early days in Tempe, but the passion and drive for the KoY project never lapsed, with Davidson continuing to write new material for the band even during their hiatus. 2020 has seen Davidson and Lamond join forces once again, stripping KoY back to a duo, and releasing the bands much-anticipated debut album, ‘Escape Planet’ – set for release this November

WADE JACKSON Signs to Broken Stone Releases new single ‘Nightlife’ Announces new album Sensationalized

by the partae November 24, 2020
written by the partae

Broken Stone Records are pleased to announce Wade Jackson has joined their roster and will release his new album Sensationalized on Friday 4 December. Wade today releases new single ‘Nightlife‘

As Wade says of the single “I wrote and recorded Nightlife during the Coronavirus lockdown in Sydney. The view of the empty streets from my apartment window, particularly in the night, made me imagine a dystopian city that had been taken over by witches. The witches slept in nightclubs during the day and musicians must call/summon these witches at dusk by playing music that they enjoy to bring them out of their slumber and leave the clubs in good moods. If the music is to their liking, it would make them levitate and dance in the night sky whilst giving off rich-red, silky light flashes. I wanted the outro guitar solo to represent the witch dancing in the sky.”

Wade Jackson – ‘Nightlife’
Purchase/Stream: https://wadejackson.lnk.to/nightlife

Wade began predominantly worked in music theatre and writing screen plays. Given things weren’t going so well he decided to use his musical chops to write his debut album Goodbye Rain, Hello Sunshine in 2012 which he later recorded with producer Liam Judson (Belles Will Ring, Cloud Control to Major Tom, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Dream). Touring Australia widely, he took a break to write Whiskey Alpha Delta Echo in the fall of 2013, again co-producing with Judson. The album was picked up on a licensing deal from a Spanish label generating a European tour.

After returning from Europe, with wind in his sails and sales he started work on the follow-up, Crown & Cathedral which unfortunately was disliked immensely by his Spanish fan base citing “there’s too much synthesiser”, a mistake that Jackson did not learn from and continued to use on the follow up album, The Ghost Searches Beside Me. The LP was recorded and mixed by Jackson with his new set of skills he was forced to learn after going broke from investing all of his money into a music documentary he made with friend and well known Australian band manager and industry stalwart, Greg Carey. Waiting – The Van Duren Story was screened around the world and well received.

Now, Broken Stone Records have come knocking after hearing the soon to be released fifth album titled Sensationalized.

As Wade details of the album “Sensationalized was written and recorded during the Covid-19 lockdown in Sydney. The theme is based around a fictional complete city breakdown, exaggerated reality. An almost apocalyptic, dystopian city with different scenarios played out by different characters in a diary/self reflection style.

This was also reflected in the music I was listening to: Joe Walsh – Barnstorm, Joni Mitchell – Hejira, Lewis Baloue – L’amour, Peter Koppes – Manchild or Myth. All these records for me have a real reclusive feel and felt comforting whilst alone during lockdown.”

1. Sensationalized
2. Wild
3. Heaven
4. Help The City
5. Light In The Shade
6. The Outside World
7. We Have It
8. I Used To Die Here
9. Everything Else Is Yours
10. Nightlife
11. Start Again

Wade Jackson – Sensationalized is out Friday 4 December via Broken Stone Records / Remote Control Records.

Where are you currently based? I currently live in Adelaide near the water! How did you first start playing music? I started playing music when I was 16ish I actually just decided to dust off my brothers old guitar and look up some YouTube tutorials on how to play songs I liked at the time. What's been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far? I’ve just finally released the EP 'Coping Mechanisms' via Dew Process which I’m super happy to be able to share. Covid has obviously impacted music and arts this year but personally it hasn’t been too bad for me.  I’ve enjoyed a bit of down time. The one thing I miss the most is playing live and touring so I’m looking forward to potentially getting back at it and doing that in the somewhat near future. Fingers crossed!  How did you go about writing Coping Mechanisms and what does this EP mean to you? I wrote the EP across 2018 and 2019. I think this EP to me is finding hope in darker times and strength in small things even when it feels impossible. Where and when did you record/produce EP? Who did you work with? I recorded the EP towards the end of 2019 in Melbourne’s Shed Studios with John Castle. Other collaborators I worked closely with on this EP are my great friends Benjamin Tamblyn and Mario Spate, as well as writing with Joel Quartmaine & Konny Kersting.   What did you find most challenging and rewarding throughout the process?  I think the challenge wasn’t so much the creation and writing of the music but persevering through personal issues while trying to remain creatively energised and enthused. Completing the EP and more so releasing it has been the rewarding part and seeing how it has resonated with others. Any live shows coming up? December 11th in Adelaide at JIVE I’ll be playing my first headline show of the year and I’m over the moon about it. What do you like to do away from music? Cooking, crafting, walking my doggo, binging tv series and seeing my fam and friends.

AUSSIE MUSICIANS EVES KARYDAS, L-FRESH THE LION & MIKE WATERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN LEAD UP TO MUSICIANS MAKING A DIFFERENCE DAY (MMAD DAY) FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4

L-Fresh the Lion, Eves Karydas & Mike Waters have opened up about their struggles with mental health in candid conversations with Danny Clayton in the hope that others will know they’re not alone and find inspiration and healing through their music.

Queensland born songstress Karydas first started working through her battle with anxiety when recording new music when she first moved to London.

“I was trying to take advantage of the opportunity, but I just had this dark cloud hanging over my head. It was a pain in the butt.” – Singer/songwriter Eves Karydas

Karydas talks through ways she’s dealt with anxiety and how she’s used those feelings to motivate her songwriting, resulting in the creation of one of 2020’s strongest pop indie releases, “Complicated”.

As a way to combat his own mental health issues, Mike Waters reflected on his own dealing process, inspiring his song “I’m Doing Fine” which has ticked over one million plays on Spotify alone. Mike breaks down how a moment of not feeling okay, went on to inspire his song and important conversations with the people closest in his life.

“I was really struggling and I felt like it was going to be this way forever, once I started reaching out to people I realised I’m not the only one who feels like this.” – Melbourne singer/songwriter Mike Waters

Sydney’s own L-Fresh the Lion’s journey with music started as one of self discovery and understanding his identity. Through music he’s discovered more about himself as well as how to tell his own story through his acclaimed lyrics.

“Hip Hop values authenticity, If I want to be like Tupac I can’t tell his story, I can only tell my story, so what is my story?” – Sydney hip-hop icon L-Fresh the Lion

These important conversations have been released in the lead up to Musicians Making A Difference Day (MMAD Day) on Friday December 4, a day dedicated to amplifying the power of music in creating positive change in the world and bringing awareness to the work of Australian music youth charity, MMAD.

“If you are going through a hard time you are absolutely not alone. I hope this series or my episode reaches you in some way; sending everyone lots of love.” – Eves Karydas

This new release is full of old skool piano stabs, a sublime vocal, bouncy beats and an infectious electronic bass line that instantly hooks you; all coming together to make a track that has a feel-good vibe running throughout.

“Turn Back Time was born out of a late night session with me & Diplo. I was on tour in LA at the time, playing some amazing shows, meeting some really cool people and feeling super inspired by my surroundings. I played Turn Back Time in some of my last live shows and the response was so crazy, we knew we had to release it! Enjoy… and let’s hope I can drop this one LIVE for you all

Fresh off the back of another standout crossover dance release ‘Wired’ feat Ella Eyre, Sonny Fodera’s once again showcases how his production style just works. Having remixed the biggest names in the genre, Sonny has worked with an impressive string of leading artists including Calvin Harris, Disciples, MK and many more. Mixmag noted him as “one of the biggest draws in house” having sensationally sold out the London Printworks in 24 hours. It’s clear that Sonny is a rapidly rising talent, with more than a dozen top ten releases via Beatport, several studio albums and having performed at the world’s most renowned clubs and festivals.

Diplo is as an artist who needs little introduction as his musical credentials speak for themselves. His recent release ‘Looking For Me’ with Paul Woolford and Kareen Lomax sensationally clocked over 80 million combined streams, gaining a US  #1 dance chart in the process.  Simultaneously he brought us ‘On My Mind’ with fellow US producers SIDEPIECE, achieving ‘Track Of The Week’ on Radio 1, becoming a Tik Tok viral phenomenon, breaking through the 70 million streams mark and was a BRIT certified Gold. Diplo has also released his genre bending country album and is the driving force behind incredible acts such as Major Lazer, Silk City, LSD and Jack Ü. He has produced for Beyonce, Madonna, The Weeknd and M.I.A. He is one of the most renowned contemporary and in demand producers of our time with three Grammy wins and multiple nominations to his name.

With a brand-new video in the pipeline and the track already teased in the artists DJ sets ‘Turn Back Time’ will no doubt follow on the success of their recent releases, brought to you by FFRR a tried and tested label delivering dance anthems for decades.
