KASEY CHAMBERS

TAKES TO MELBOURNE’S SIDNEY MYER MUSIC BOWL ON SUNDAY 14 MARCH
AS PART OF THE LIVE AT THE BOWL CONCERT SERIES

  • Kasey Chambers will return to the stage at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Sunday 14 March for her first solo headline show in over a year
  • Joined by rising country star Brad Cox and Andy Golledge
  • Tickets to Chambers’ highly anticipated show go on sale Thursday 11 February at 12noon AEDT

Chugg Entertainment and Frontier Touring are thrilled to announce the return of renowned singer-songwriter Kasey Chambers, who will take the stage at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Sunday 14 March, for her first solo headline performance in over a year.

Kasey’s performance is part of the Live at the Bowl concert series, which sees Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl host a now four-month-long festival that runs through to the end of April, featuring an all-local program of music, comedy, family-friendly events and more.

The genre-defying Chambers, who wears the honesty of country music on her sleeve, is one of Australia’s greatest international success stories. She’s garnered a cult following around the world with her unique brand of country, and over the past two decades has won 13 ARIA Awards, 10 APRA Music Awards, countless Golden Guitar Awards, and in 2018, became the youngest female to ever be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

With twelve award-winning albums under her belt since the release of her debut solo record The Captain (1999), Chambers’ brilliant song writing and world-class performance has seen her become one of the most popular and acclaimed artists of her generation.

Over the years, Chambers has collaborated and shared stages with the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning and more, with an enthralling live performance that’s as joyful as it is authentic. As the Sydney Morning Herald writes, “… it’s the warmth, sense of community and comfort Chambers exudes that brings her legion of supporters back again and again”.

Opening for Kasey Chambers will be alt-country artist Andy Golledge and joining as main support is rising Australian country music star Brad Cox.

Taking out the 39th Toyota Star Maker award in 2018 and earning himself four Golden Guitar nominations to date, Brad Cox has quickly captured the attention of country music tastemakers around the country. Released in late 2020, Brad’s sophomore album My Mind’s Projection debuted at the top of the ARIA Australian Country Chart and No.12 on the combined ARIA Album Chart, with the artist chalking up more than 20 million streams across his catalogue to date. Known for his epic live performances which have seen him sell out rooms across the country, the Jindabyne native has performed at CMC Rocks QLD with the hottest local and international artists, and supported American country music heavyweights Brett Eldredge, Randy Houser and Jon Pardi.

The joyful mania of an Andy Golledge show must be experienced to be believed. With a catalogue that spans foot stompin’ party starters to the heartachingly delicate, the Tamworth native and his band always put on one hell of a show.

Live at the Bowl is set up in a COVID-Safe, socially distanced format with tickets available in pairs or groups of 4 – 6. Tickets to Kasey Chambers’ performance will go on sale at 12noon AEDT on Thursday 11 February, so start calling around and make plans early. This is the perfect opportunity to get your group of friends or family to go along together and enjoy the show from your own private deck or table.

Live at the Bowl will see the world premiere of the MESS Synthesiser Orchestra with an epic, newly commissioned piece called Magnitudes come to life on Saturday 27 March as part of MESS at the Bowl. The MESS Synthesiser Orchestra brings together an almost impossible array of cutting edge synthesisers – also called synths – spanning from the 1960s to the present day. Performing as one ensemble for Live at the Bowl, this will be one of the largest gatherings of these iconic electronic musical instruments ever seen on stage. Co-founder of the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) Robin Fox says this unique performance event reflects the diversity of sounds from yesterday, today and tomorrow in an ecstatic show of togetherness and community. “The inauguration of the MESS Synthesiser Orchestra signals the beginning of a series of mass activations of the MESS collection at an extraordinary scale. There will be an incredible array of electronic instruments from right across the history of electronic music on stage – some for the first time in many decades. This is a unique and rare opportunity for audiences; we want to show them that electronic music is not just one thing. It is in fact a multiplicity of techniques, approaches and sensibilities which have revolutionised the way in which we listen to and understand sound and music,” says Fox. Audiences will be entranced by Magnitudes – conducted by Mat Watson – a performance event which makes use of 40 synths and 16 performers in the newly formed MESS Synthesiser Orchestra. “Magnitudes moves through tonal, textural, melodic, harmonic, abstract and absurd themes to reveal itself across multiple movements. Expect intense sound phenomena and complete chaos giving way to moments of stillness and feelings of euphoria. I feel incredibly excited about performing this work with such a talented group of artists at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. It’ll be a wild time!” says Watson. MESS at the Bowl will also see a sweeping line-up of local talent performing exciting sonic explorations with sets from Simona Castricum, R. Rebeiro (My Disco/Downwards), Naretha Williams (Blak Mass), OK EG and the legendary sound of Artificial (Nicole Skeltys/B(if)tek), with live visuals by Carla Zimbler. Despite a brutal year of lockdown and isolation, musical talent still runs deep in Melbourne and MESS at the Bowl is the celebration that music lovers and musicians of all kinds have been missing. “One thing is certain. MESS loves them all. MESS is genre agnostic. Sound is sound and everything is available for creative deployment,” says Fox. MESS is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to giving everyone access to the entire history of electronic music in instrumental form. MESS is the custodian of a museum grade collection of hundreds of synthesisers, drum machines and every variety of electronic sound making device. For more information visit mess.foundation Tickets will go on sale from 11am, Thursday 11 February via liveatthebowl.com.au We’re excited to be welcoming visitors back to our venues in line with the most recent Victorian Government guidelines on COVID-19. We have opened our outdoor café Protagonist, the Sunday Markets as well as the Australian Music Vault. MESS at the Bowl added to Live at the Bowl line-up

SJUR

by the partae February 8, 2021
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

I’m currently based in Bergen, Norway. I moved here 10 years ago to study and ended up moving here permanently. It’s actually one of the cities in Norway with the most rain. Guess that helps out if you want to sit inside and make music 🙂

What’s been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far?

Oh, where to begin. The past year has been pretty special. I’ve had sessions over Teams and been at home for the most part. Really looking forward to start playing festivals and shows again!

How did you first start playing music?

I started as a DJ just for fun in 2009, and after a couple of years I decided to try out producing. A lot of YouTube tutorials and so on. I still perform as a DJ, but my main focus is producing at the moment.

Lovespeake and yourself have a new single ‘Me In The Middle’ on the way, how did you come to collaborate with Lovespeake?

We first met at a songwriting camp hosted by Sony Music in Oslo. Made a quick demo together and decided to work again later. So, when I heard his draft of “Me In The Middle” I was sold!

What influenced the sound and songwriting for this track?

We want the listener to feel energized and listen to the track when they try to achieve a goal. At the gym, studies, work etc. I think this motivation helped us shape the track to how it sounds today. I heard our first demo over and over at the gym and came up with new ideas every time.

How did Lovespeake and yourself create Me In The Middle?

I heard his vocal draft of the song in the end of 2019. We sat a session with Jesper Borgen in Oslo and met up to write new verses and start to set the arrangement. Later we worked over Teams and sent ideas back and forth. We tried to set a couple of sessions in Oslo during the pandemic, but every date we planned landed on a new quarantine, so we finished it with online sessions. Luckily, we had similar ideas for the track, so this didn´t slow us down.

What programs/instruments did you use?

I work in Ableton Live, and on this project I used a lot of Serum and Kontakt for the “future bass”-sound with decapitator/devil-loc to crush the synths a little extra. For the verses and pre-chorus Jesper Borgen played piano/guitar over the synths to get the human feel, and then we fooled around with different recordings of stuff in the studio to make the percussion unique.

How did you approach the recording/production/mastering processes?

We did the vocal recordings at Jesper´s studio in Oslo, and I also presented my first draft of the drop there. After that I continued the production at home and we sent the files to each other. The master is done by Chris Samson at Propeller Mastering in Oslo.

What did you find most challenging and rewarding during the creative process?

The distance is of course the biggest challenge in this situation, and I think the most rewarding is that I learned to do online sessions. Have a few really nice ideas ready.

What do you like to do away from music?

Now that we have a lot of snow here in Norway, I like to spend time skiing in the mountains. It´s one of the few activities we can do and still keep the social distancing.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I´ve been listening to Seeb´s new album lately. It´s so good.

What’s planned for 2021

I do have some festivals planned, but we will have to see how the pandemic goes and hope for the best. Other than that, I´m very excited to release some new music this year!

Favourite food and place to hangout?

I love the food at Fly Chicken in Bergen. Fried chicken burger with jalapeno fries. Best there is!

Following the release of that album, the group went on their first-ever concert tour, performing material from the ‘Lost Themes’ albums, as well as music from Carpenter’s classic film scores. They re-recorded many of those classic movie themes for 2017’s ‘Anthology’ album. The following year, John was asked to executive produce and compose the music for the new Halloween movie directed by David Gordon Green, which promptly became the highest-grossing instalment in the series. Whereas the original ‘Lost Themes’ album came as a surprise after years of relative silence from Carpenter, the third instalment sees him in the midst of a resurgent moment as a cultural force. The 2018 ‘Halloween’ score gave his music its biggest audience in decades, and the world he releases his new album into is one that has, at long last, given him the credit he deserves as a founding father of modern electronic music.

FEMI KUTI AND MADE KUTI TWO-ALBUM PROJECT LEGACY + OUT NOW!

by the partae February 8, 2021
written by the partae
Praise for ‘Legacy +’:
“Made Kuti is a one-man studio band…[he] merges the slow-simmering rhythm and implacable horn riffs of vintage Afrobeat with a looping, prismatic, multilayered production, doubling back toward psychedelia.” – New York Times“Giddy and transcendent” – Paste“With one listen through ‘Legacy +,’ it’s clear that the late Fela Kuti’s musical family tree remains both strong and fruitful.” – American Songwriter

“A fresh take on the Afrobeat sound that Fela pioneered in the 1970s and ’80s. Made carries the torch for his family’s Black consciousness and activist politics.” – SPIN

“A remarkable collection” – Loud & Quiet (9/10)

“Throws Afrobeat to the future” – The Observer

“The dynasty continues” – Uncut (8/10)

Femi Kuti and his son Made Kuti release Legacy +, a special two-album package that includes solo albums from each artist – Femi’s Stop The Hate and Made’s For(e)ward. The project has earned critical acclaim while Femi and Made proudly carry on Fela Kuti’s legacy as torchbearers for change. To celebrate the release, Femi has shared a music video for Stop The Hate highlight ‘As We Struggle Everyday’ (filmed by Optimus Dammy, edited by Audrey Hurtis, with illustrations by Kiki Picasso). Watch below.

WATCH: ‘As We Struggle Everyday’ by Femi Kuti

Both albums that make up Legacy + are steeped in the tradition of Afrobeat invented by Fela Kuti (Femi’s father, and Made’s grandfather), but each also brings their own unique vision and sound. Stop The Hate honours Fela in a traditionally fun, sharply political, and affirming way. Meanwhile For(e)ward is a modern and progressive freedom manifesto, pushing boundaries of the subgenre even further. Made also performs every instrument on his album!

The cover art for For(e)ward and Stop The Hate features portraits of Femi and Made done by Brooklyn-based artist Delphine Desane, whose work was recently featured on the cover of Vogue Italia.

Femi got his start playing saxophone in his father’s band in 1979, eventually creating his own band, Positive Force. Over the next 30 years, Femi would amass worldwide acclaim as an ambassador of Afrobeat and many humanitarian organizations. Positive Force remains at the forefront of the Afrobeat movement, expanding the music’s vocabulary. Femi has earned multiple Grammy nominations, performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages and festivals, and collaborated with iconic musicians across a wide array of genres, most recently Coldplay on their on their latest album Everyday Life.

Made grew up in the legendary New Afrika Shrine in Lagos, and spent much of his childhood touring with his father, playing bass or saxophone in Positive Force. Unlike his father, who didn’t formally study music, Made went to the famed Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London (the same place Fela studied, back when it was known simply as Trinity College), where he shared a musical environment with some of the most talented and disciplined musicians up-and-coming acts from the city’s underground scene.

STREAM / PURCHASE ‘AFSILA’ HERE DESTIINO – ‘AFSILA’ LUMIÈRE NOIRE RECORDS ____________________________________________________________________________________ Announced today, French electronic producer Pierre-Alexandre Busson, better known as Yuksek, reveals the first details of his new alias, Destiino. Sharing the inaugural taster of the project, Destiino’s debut single, ‘Afsila’ is out now via Chloé's Lumière Noire Records. ‘Afsila’ is the first track taken from a soon to be released EP of the same name on February 19th. The origins of the project and Yuksek’s tormented alter-ego of Destiino revert back to 2017, when the Rheims-born electronic producer was invited to take part in a unique experiment - a residence at visual artist Xavier Veilhan’s Studio Venezia. The installation, as part of The 57th Venice Biennale, invited musicians to make use of its instruments in order to compose live in front of an audience.    Inspired by the spontaneity and improvising nature of the experience, Yuksek returned home with a new sonic focus to push the limits of his artistic boundaries, break conventional creative processes and surrender to spontaneity by recording improvised tracks in one sequence on his armada of analogue machines. “Destiino is Yuksek’s alter ego, it came out straight from the synthesizers PCB, without over thinking. It’s the result of lonely recording sessions when I pushed the ‘stop recording button’ when exhausted. It also came out of public recording sessions at Xavier Veilhan exhibition in Venice Biennale. I could hardly describe the style, but I can only say that it’s most of the time one shot recording, nearly no editing, like sur-realist’s automatic writing, like joy in the machine.” - Destiino Embarking on a series of experimental music sessions between Venice and Yuksek’s studio in Rheims, the output very almost didn’t see the light of day. By his own admission, Yuksek didn’t quite know what to make of the unclassifiable tracks, which comprised both of pieces that were too moody for dance-music labels and others that were too club-focused for more experimental imprints. It was with Lumière Noire, a label that defies classification, that the project found an open ear.   Along with label boss Chloé, who shares an equal love and inclination towards shifting away from club formatted sounds and holding a deep appreciation for narrating stories with music, Yuksek created edited versions of his recordings which withhold the desired raw musical feel. As time-progressed and ideas between the two artists were exchanged and flourishing, the Destiino project was born.   Dark atmospheres and frantic melodies conjured by the unmistakable aura of analogue hardware create a body of music which encompasses experimental sounds from lo-fi, to electronica, cinematic scores and acid-tinged techno.   With more Destiino music forthcoming this year, ‘Afsila’ is out now via Lumière Noire Records. INTRODUCING YEEK WITH HIS SHAPE-SHIFTING NEW SINGLE '3000 MILES (BABY BABY)'

INTRODUCING YEEK WITH HIS SHAPE-SHIFTING NEW SINGLE ‘3000 MILES (BABY BABY)’

by the partae February 6, 2021
written by the partae

ACCLAIM FOR YEEK

“Yeek is the pop artist throwing convention to the wind”
i-D

“Unbounded by genre and making music that’s distinctly his own”
Complex

“Yeek’s songs are the best of both worlds, drawing on trip-hop and R&B in equal measure”
Pigeons and Planes

Introducing Filipino-American singer Yeek, who today shares ‘3000 Miles (Baby Baby)’, the lead single from his forthcoming new project, VALENCIA. Listen HERE.

‘3000 Miles (Baby Baby)‘ is a sleek slow burner that ushers in a new era for Yeek through a mesmerizing, kaleidoscopic soundscape. The song is his first taste of new music this year and follows his 2019 EP IDK WHERE, which Highsnobiety said “manages to effortlessly showcase his unique sound,” and last year’s collaboration with María Isabel on ‘Where Does The Love Go?‘ from her debut Stuck in the Sky EP.

Yeek is the artistic moniker of Sebastian Carandag, a shape-shifting singer, songwriter, and producer who blends bedroom pop and low-key indie rock with shadings of alt-R&B, hip hop, and chillwave into hypnotic, sub-three minute, melancholic meditations. A wholly undefinable and perfectly contemporary sound that Yeek has been refining since 2015 across two full-length projects, two EPs, and countless standalone singles, his unique brand of indie-pop has already landed him collaborations with like-minded artists, such as Dominic Fike, UMI, Bakar, DUCKWRTH and more.

With the release of his 2019 EP IDK WHERE, Yeek won praise from i-D, Pigeons & Planes, Ones to Watch, Highsnobiety, and more for its maturity and unbounded sense of style. Now on ‘3000 Miles (Baby Baby)’, he mixes grainy drum machines with gooey, sun-kissed synth melodies and his minimal vocal melodicism, moving between balmy, lackadaisical R&B and heartfelt hip hop flows.

Raised in Naples, South Florida, an area mostly known for the lo-fi, blown-out hip hop that’s been emanating from its Eastside in recent years, Yeek is part of a burgeoning wave of new artists piecing together a distinct identity for the West coast of Florida. While still steeped in the same DIY ethos and aesthetics that birthed Soundcloud rap, Yeek approaches his music from a perspective that’s based more on indie rock and pop songwriting. Now based in New York via a brief layover in Los Angeles, Yeek’s music derives part of its undefinability from his nomadic existence, from the hazy cinematics of California to the leisurely, effortless vibes of Florida to the melting pot artistic attitude of New York City.

‘3000 Miles (Baby Baby)’ is out now, buy/stream it here.

YIBBY ENLISTS PROLIFIC LONDON RAPPER LORD APEX ON HAZY NEW SINGLE 'CIGAR'

YIBBY ENLISTS PROLIFIC LONDON RAPPER LORD APEX ON HAZY NEW SINGLE ‘CIGAR’

by the partae February 6, 2021
written by the partae

“I’ve said it previously but I’m gonna keep saying it – Yibby is one of the strongest voices in the vanguard of Sydney hip-hop right now. Pay attention.” – Tommy Faith, triple j Unearthed

“Yibby’s energy and enthusiasm are innate – spitting bars with a confidence beyond his years without so much as breaking a sweat.” – FBi Radio

STREAM ‘CIGAR FT LORD APEX’ HERE

Further showcasing his disparate nature, idiosyncratic rapper YIBBY returns for his first offering of 2021 in the form of the hazy, boom bap track ‘Cigar’ featuring prolific London powerhouse Lord Apex.

Driven by a trap inspired beat from regular collaborators Clockwork Odyssey, ‘Cigar’ addresses the differences between the real and what’s a facade. Of the track’s main line, YIBBY says “I got the cigar line from that saying “close but no cigar” I actually thought the saying was “all smoke and no cigar” until I read up, but I liked it too much, so I kept it haha.”

With the constraints of border closures, this international alliance came together entirely over the internet with YIBBY stating “I’ve been listening to Apex heavy for a couple years now, so when I heard that beat and how it was really murky but also had a bounce I knew I wanted him on it, so I hit him up. I tried to do the hook too but as soon as I heard his tone on it, it was a wrap.”

Forever a melting pot of genres, YIBBY’s music always comes accompanied with coming of age tales and food for thought bars. His debut single ‘Woah’ came in late 2018 signalling the start of a rapid fire first year for the now 21-year-old which consisted of the Lost In Translation EP and a hard-hitting team up with fellow up-and-comer Raj Mahal.

Quickly gaining recognition from fans and media, in 2019 he came in at #14 on FBi Radio’s Most Played Artists. He also left his mark on triple j’s Bars of Steel and FBi Radio’s Independent Play series whilst garnering fans from Sniffers, Tone Deaf, Life Without Andy, Purple Sneakers and more. Single ‘Folk’, pulled from his debut EP, was added to spot rotation on triple j, as well as full adds on triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, SYN Radio, 4ZZZ and EDGE Radio, and spins on Beats Radio 1.

Last year his major release ‘No Sweat’ was added to Spotify’s tastemaker playlists Local Hype, Beats n’ Bars and The Drip and was included in The Guardian’s Best Music for May.

On the live circuit he’s cut his teeth supporting Winston Surfshirt, Boo Seeka, Drapht, Arno Faraji, Milan Ring and Kuren as well as performing a show-stopping set at Bad Friday Festival.

PRAISE FOR INDIGO SPARKE

“I had the privilege and pleasure of getting to help Indigo put these recordings together back in April and throughout 2019. These songs became near and dear to me, and it was beautiful to help build the billowy landscapes within them. Indigo’s writing and voice are ethereal and angelic and guide me through internal canyons and plains. I’m deeply grateful to have been part of this and to have gotten to play and sing along side Indigo, and to have been able to eternalize a very special space and time with her, which I will always cherish.”
– Adrianne Lenker

“With these songs and her filament voice, Indigo brings us in to a private place and lights a fire there.” – Feist

“Indigo Sparke balance[s] heavy, reverb-drenched verses with moments of airy and acoustic whispers. This Australian artist tackles themes of vulnerability and femininity with an eye on life through a different lens.” – NPR, All Songs Considered

“Achingly beautiful and heart-wrenching… Feels impossibly intimate and vast at once, like a cherished secret that, once shared, becomes universal truth.” – Gorilla vs Bear

“Gorgeous and gentle… Sparke sings in an ethereal voice of the kind of love that makes you feel safe.” – Consequence of Sound

“If you like the hushed, delicate folk of Adrianne [Lenker]’s own material, you’re probably going to like this song too. Indigo is a natural, and this song hooks you in with little more than her voice and guitar.” -Brooklyn Vegan

“Sadly beautiful, haunting… Deceptively complex on an emotional level.” – Beats Per Minute

“A glowing guitar lullaby.” – Stereogum

Australian artist Indigo Sparke has shared a video for ‘Colourblind,’ the latest single from her anticipated debut album, Echo. The Paris, Texas-inspired video was co-directed by Sparke and DP Monica Buscarino.

Of the song and video, Sparke says “I think there was a period of time when I was almost laughing at how sad I was in the space of ambiguous liminal love. If you don’t start laughing, you just cry more. Its a feeling when you are kind of sick to your stomach and anxious but excited and not knowing what the fuck is going on. The space of waiting. Waiting to know someone else’s truth, or waiting to see someone, or waiting to see what the future holds for you and that person, or waiting to see if it’s even real. Everything becomes that person, everything reminds you of that person, everything speaks that persons name. It’s a bittersweet thing.” She expands more on the song and video in an essay penned for Talkhouse.

Indigo Sparke brings her deeply personal lived experiences to her music, highlighting the spaces between the polarity of softness and grit. Pulling from her experiences of addiction, of healing, of queerness, of heartbreak, of joy, of connection, of the softness and of the grit alchemizing it all into tenderness through her music, she conjures up a myriad of feelings that is undeniably potent.

Echo, which was co-produced by Sparke, Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker and Andrew Sarlo, is available for pre-order now and due February 19th via Sacred Bones.

Indigo was born in the belly of Sydney, Australia straight into the heart of a family with music in their bones. Her parents, a jazz singer and a musician, named her after the Duke Ellington song ‘Mood Indigo,’ and her childhood was spent serenaded by a rich soundtrack of Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. From a young age Indigo felt called to the stage, attending a performing arts high school, and followed it with three years in an acting school, working as an actress before embedding herself and heeding the call to the path of music.

Indigo taught herself to play guitar in her early twenties. Over the next few years, she established herself on the Australian music scene, and released her EP Night Bloom in 2016.  Indigo’s career continually bloomed, opening for Big Thief on the Australian dates of their 2017/ 2018 tour, and then was invited to play at South by Southwest 2019. There, NPR‘s Bob Boilen was first taken by Indigo, writing that her lyrics “both cut hard and comfort” and that her performance “balanced heavy, reverb-drenched verses with moments of airy and acoustic whispers.” Sparke began 2020 with a February Tiny Desk Concert at NPR, and had been booked as the opening act for Big Thief‘s sold-out tour of Australia and New Zealand, including a scheduled performance at the Sydney Opera House before Covid-19 saw everything change.

It was in 2019 that Indigo lived and travelled across America, in places like NYC, Minneapolis, Topanga, Taos, in many hotel rooms and amidst the vast stretching landscapes on the never ending highways, channelling her creative energy into the completion of her latest album, echo. echo was recorded between LA, Italy and New York, co-produced by Sparke, Adrianne Lenker (of Big Thief), and Andrew Sarlo (producer of Big Thief, Nick Hakim, Bon Iver, Hand Habits, etc). The record was completed at Figure 8 Studio in New York City, studio of musician Shahzad Ismaily. Phil Weinrobe (producer/engineer for Leonard Cohen, Damien Rice, Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, etc) engineered and mixed the album.

Of this incredibly deep and intimate record, Indigo says, “When writing and recording the record, I wondered how it would all come together. I felt like I was standing back in the desert, looking up at the blue night sky, wondering how all the stars would connect. I think sometimes it’s the dark matter or void space between them, that holds it all together. This record is an ode to death and decay. And the restlessness I feel to belong to something greater. Adrianne and I talked so much about keeping the record stripped back and simple, that is, we are all just constantly getting stripped back and humbled by life.”

Indigo’s art searches for the vulnerability that comes with a feeling of true safety, a vulnerability that can grant access to a world behind tangible experience. It is clear Indigo has lived and woven her many lives into these songs, telling us, “I feel and have often felt a million different women ramble and reconfigure the corners of my mind and soul. I think in my life, I have ricocheted off so many different walls within myself. It’s an endless search to understand the mysteries of life and love and history. As soon as you think you’ve got it, it’s gone. Sometimes I feel so thin. Sometimes I feel so robust. I think that comes through the music.”

While Indigo’s songs are an oceanic experience of emotion, her poetry is grounded. Like stone markers on the path, her poems are left for the reader as crossroads where something takes over beyond the logical mind. The visual realm has always been a part of Indigo’s writing process; songs and poems come to her as landscapes and human compositions, and her relationship with the camera is as natural as with the guitar. Indigo’s photography is a collaborative emotional practice that builds trust with the subject and helps them witness themselves in their most beautiful state. Photography’s compositional power has also led Indigo to re-imagine her work as an actress. Rather than working solely in front of the camera, she is transitioning into a role as composer and creative director, making projects that she can step into as subject rather than object.

“I feel that death and time hang over me like questions, I have felt the shimmer and the edge for so long now but what I long for are the worlds of safety and safe love. There are so many windows in life to look through and so many ways to heal and express. My photography, poetry and music, were born at a juncture mirroring different parts of me. I see and feel visually, I am obsessed with immortalizing memory.”

Taken from Void Of Vision's 2019 album Hyperdaze, this cut comes oozing with classic VOV heaviness, complete with ethereal vocals from the Thornhill vocalist throughout. On looking back at 'Year Of The Rat' over a year since its original release, Void Of Vision frontman Jack Bergin describes having a chance to really value his growth since writing the track. "While I still feel like I’m not where I want to be mentally, it’s songs like this where I can truly see how much has really changed around me in such a short space of time. To gain a form of positivity from such an overwhelmingly negative track over the course of such an overwhelmingly negative year speaks volumes to the importance of heavy music and the reflection within it," he says, adding: "'Year Of The Rat' was written for those who have reached their expiry date, for the weak that have finally been weeded out. Watching an undeserving individual have a position of ‘power’ stripped from them has been a common theme throughout the year 2020, this song goes out to them.” Today's release also comes alongside a hectic new music video starring Jacob, check it out below.

Melbourne metal stalwarts Void Of Vision have teamed up with Thornhill’s Jacob Charlton for a reimagined version of ‘Year Of The Rat‘. Taken from Void Of Vision’s 2019 album Hyperdaze, this cut comes oozing with classic VOV heaviness, complete with ethereal vocals from the Thornhill vocalist throughout.

On looking back at ‘Year Of The Rat’ over a year since its original release, Void Of Vision frontman Jack Bergin describes having a chance to really value his growth since writing the track.

“While I still feel like I’m not where I want to be mentally, it’s songs like this where I can truly see how much has really changed around me in such a short space of time. To gain a form of positivity from such an overwhelmingly negative track over the course of such an overwhelmingly negative year speaks volumes to the importance of heavy music and the reflection within it,” he says, adding:

“‘Year Of The Rat’ was written for those who have reached their expiry date, for the weak that have finally been weeded out. Watching an undeserving individual have a position of ‘power’ stripped from them has been a common theme throughout the year 2020, this song goes out to them.”

Today’s release also comes alongside a hectic new music video starring Jacob, check it out below.

On collaborating with the Thornhill vocalist, Bergin explains that it comes full circle over five years after Jacob originally approached him to collab.

“About 5 years ago Jacob approached me after one of our hometown shows and asked if I wanted to do guest vocals on his new, up-and-coming band’s track. I’m pretty sure I said yeah, but forgot all about it until a good half a year later when our videographer Cian called and told me I had to come down to do guest vocals on this band that he was working with. The band in question ended up being Jacob and the rest of Thornhill tracking their debut EP, so I’m glad I listened to Cian for once,” he laughs.

Jacob adds that 2020 found the friends working on multiple creative ventures together outside of their respective bands.

“Jumping on this track was kind of like a little break for us both where we had the opportunity to build on something that had already been created,” he says. “Aside from that I was honestly super stoked to be a part of the project in general, VOV have always played a special part in Thornhill’s history so it was very cool to be included on a special part of their history.”

With its release in September 2019, Hyperdaze seized a stark brand of bleakness akin only to Void Of Vision. Describing the record as seeping with pure hatred, self-loathing and nihilism, Bergin admits writing Hyperdaze offered a cathartic purge of darkness for him personally.

On top of knockout global album reviews upon its release, Void Of Vision went on to support Northlane around Australia, took to festivals including Heaven And Hell Festival, Schema Festival and UNIFY and headlined across Australia and Japan in early 2020.

With a year’s worth of lockdown spent fervently creating, Void Of Vision now stand poised to release more music shortly.
