Today Mike Skinner as The Streets’ has shared his new single ‘Wrong Answers Only‘, a collaboration with South London singer and rapper Master Peace. With Skinner’s trademark wit and eloquent lyricism set atop big beats, the song is complimented by Master Peace’s euphonious input, about which he comments:
“Working with Mike brought out a new avenue of my lyricism that I haven’t previously explored. He taught me a lot and I feel like that’s reflected in my verse, it touches on elements of fun, realisation of friendships and enemies and the aftermath of how you feel about those scenarios“.
Mike explains, “been playing bits of this song for a very long time and it gets a reload without anyone knowing it. It doesn’t matter whether you like it or not so just enjoy 2022 and try to get to see your relatives overseas. But we’re not always wandering round Plymouth with stragglers and bottles, I also like boxing in virtual reality”.

Hard not to remember the song made famous by Blondie and the A-class composer Giorgio Moroder. “Call me” it’s been the life soundtrack of many people in the 80s, an energetic and engaging song, chosen by the three multi-platinum DJ producers Gabry Ponte, R3HAB, and Timmy Trumpet, to reinterpret it in their style. The Italian DJ/producer, after his success with EIFFEL 65, kept releasing solo material, always in rhythm with the newest sounds in electronic music. Where are you currently based?

I am currently based in Toronto, ON.

How did you first start playing music?

I was influenced by my family, my father is a musician, however I really started playing with my brother Andre Doucette.

What’s been happening recently?

Well I’m still coming down from the high of performing for North Bay Pride, It was an electric evening.

Your new EP ‘Run With Me’ will be out on January 14th, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Honestly each song has its own unique vibe. I wanted this EP to just have freedom of expression, and allow each song to be its own mood. I was influenced by things going on in the world that I think about, experiences in my life I was sorting through. The usual songwriter things lol!

How did you go about writing the EP?

This first collection has been written and rewritten. Some songs are 6 years in the making, I wrote “Making Moves” two weeks before we had to solidify the line-up.

Where and when did you record/produce/master the EP and who with?

So many great people made this EP happen, Milano, Jack Emblem, Thomas McKay, Anthony Wright, Danie Santos, Andre Doucette, Phil Demetro, and Vic Florencia.

How did you approach the recording process?

Each song at a time. Then I listened for months, and if I wanted to change anything, I did.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I love listening to a wide arrangement of songs. I love good house music like Elderbrook and Rufus Du Sol. Also Robyn and throwback R&B from the early 2000’s.

What do you like to do away from music?

Put my earbuds in and run!

What’s planned for 2022?

Well this release is top priority and at the moment I’m organizing the music video for the title track, “Run With Me”.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

A big salad and a cabin in the woods.

What Does Your Favorite Type Of Music Say About You? Find Out Here

Have you ever wondered what the music you listen to says about your personality? There are many different genres of music that people can listen to, and it usually corresponds with someone’s personality. Though there is not just one type of person who listens to just one specific genre – everyone has their own taste in music because everyone is unique in their own way, there are some personality characteristics that can be linked to liking a certain kind of music.

1. Pop/Go With The Flow

People who listen to pop/popular music usually go with the flow. They are open to new experiences, like to feel like they’re a part of a crowd, and might just spontaneously break into song when their favorite tune comes on. Wanting to learn how to sing like a professional, and you can read more here about the steps you should take if you can relate to this as well, or how to act in front of a crowd is somewhat common with pop enthusiasts. Performing in front of an audience and expressing themselves is something that they might also enjoy.

2. Blues/Deeply Happy

This may seem counterintuitive to some at first. However, listening to blues, or other kinds of music that’s so rich in emotions – even sad ones, can make people feel happier for different reasons. It’s important to note though that this doesn’t necessarily mean happy as in joyful, but happy in a more calm and deeply rooted way. Knowing how to recognize different emotions, accept them, feel them and then let them go, is a characteristic that can be linked to enjoying blues or other moody music. It’s not about wallowing in sadness, but rather confronting it and dealing with it, which is something that most people who enjoy these kinds of genres tend to do.

3. Punk/Rebel

Punk music has long been associated with rebelliousness and strong disapproval of authority. Those who listen to punk tend to think for themselves and want to break out of stereotypes. They want freedom – both emotional and physical, they don’t want to be held down, and they want to be able to live life on their own terms. A particular characteristic that can be linked with liking punk music is the urge for exploration, of wanting to break out of norms and go on adventures. While preferring other types of music can also involve exploration, punk enthusiasts tend to be much more assertive about what is it exactly they want. They experience emotions deeply even though they can sometimes seem like they don’t because expressing themselves in an unapologetic way is a part of their nature.

4. Socially Conscious Rap/Passionate

People listen to socially conscious rap because they want to be a part of a movement. They’re not only looking for catchy beats and sick flow but also to be exposed to important messages from different perspectives. There is an underlying feeling of wanting the world to change or at least some aspect of it. Some believe it can change through music, while others find listening to this genre comforting in the sense that there are other people that share the same values they’re so passionate about themselves. The characteristic that can be linked with enjoying socially conscious rap is passion, but it’s not the same kind of passion that punk enthusiasts might feel. It’s like a peaceful fire that burns inside them and keeps them focused on a goal since they want to make an impact on their own or someone else’s life.

5. Alternative Rock/Prone To Melancholy

People who listen to alternative rock are often introspective. They tend to keep quiet about their emotions, but that’s because they tend to prefer to think things through before saying much. They tend to feel things very intensely, but it’s not because they’re weak people – on the contrary, they are quite strong for being able to handle so much. Feeling everything around them so deeply means that listening to alternative rock can be somewhat melancholic. However, this music also helps introspective people stay grounded and focused on taking care of themselves. People who love this genre are more likely than others to enjoy poetry and other forms of writing, even if they don’t consider themselves to be writers.

While this list obviously doesn’t even stretch the surface of the matter – there are so many genres of music out there – it can give you a general idea of what types of people might enjoy which ones. It’s important to note though that no one is completely defined by the music they like, even if it does say something about them because everyone is also different in their own ways. However, knowing your favorite genre can be a fun and interesting way to think about your personality characteristics as well as gain some insight into how others may perceive you.

Today, Korn shares Forgotten, their first offering of 2022 and the second song from their upcoming studio album Requiem, due February 4 via Loma Vista Recordings. Forgotten arrives with a visualizer created by EFFIXX, who did the VFX work in the video for Korn’s first Requiem single Start The Healing, which was directed by Tim Saccenti (Flying Lotus, Run The Jewels, Depeche Mode). Start The Healing now sits in the Top 5 at Mainstream Rock charts in the US.

Over the last week, Forgotten has been teased via easter eggs across the internet with different stems from the song hidden on their website, newsletter, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Makersplace in preparation for the single’s drop.

Forgotten arrives on the heels of Korn’s 2022 19-date arena tour announcement supported by very special guests Chevelle and Code Orange which begins March 4.

Korn is also performing four nights with System Of A Down beginning on January 31 in Phoenix followed by a stop in San Diego on February 1st and two sold-out shows in Los Angeles on February 4 and 5.

Acclaimed Shikaakwa / Chicago rapper-producer and Pivot Gang Co-Founder Saba has teamed up with Cleveland rapper Krayzie Bone of the trailblazing GRAMMY Award-winning hip-hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony for new single ‘Come My Way’, a fresh melodic track that is the latest offering from Saba’s highly anticipated third solo album Few Good Things dropping on February 4, 2022. LISTEN HERE.

‘Come My Way’ features Krayzie Bone’s signature flow adding a classic and familiar sound that helps ground the Daoud and daedaePIVOT co-produced track, which is the third single issued from Few Good Things following previously released tracks ‘Stop That’ and the funk-laden ‘Fearmonger’ (feat. Daoud).

“When I think back on first discovering Bone Thugs-N-Harmony as a child, it immediately stood out to me as unique,” Saba shares of the legendary group. “I started paying attention and really learning how to rap from listening to them and trying to recite it. It felt honest and completely true to themselves — authentic in a way that doesn’t come around very often and in a way that will be impossible to recreate. Their mix of melody and rhythms that I had never heard is what connected with me in a way that other music just didn’t. It inspired me to be more creative.”

On the inspiration behind the track, Saba adds, “It’s an ode to nostalgia and growing up, and I think ‘hopeful’ and ‘soulful’ are accurate descriptions of the song. I considered a poverty song as a concept for this one. ‘All I’m doing [is] thinking how to get some money, and then we’ll be good.’ This is a false statement, but one that I believed at a point, and many others believe right now. This song also takes place in that nostalgic kind of setting. I’m describing many things that are normal on the westside of Chicago so that it plays like just any other day — pretty stagnant but having so much life. ‘We ain’t got no time to relax’ is a harsh reality for so many people experiencing this type of poverty where the focus is on work and survival. ‘Had to run them niggas shooting shit, I wish that the guys had shields’ is an acknowledgement of grief, but the song is not written as to feel sad or sorry for ourselves. It is a reality, not one I or anyone else can change, so this song is about getting up the next day and getting to work, or getting to it however you provide, but just moving on in that fashion. ‘And then we’ll be good,’ throughout whatever adversity, and challenges, and otherwise just fucked up shit comes our way.”

Few Good Things was recently highlighted in The New York Times’ “12 Things Our Critics Are Looking Forward to in 2022” winter preview stating, “The beats are still buttery, jazzy and meticulously arranged. But this time around, there is more wisdom — a recognition that living through trauma means finding gratitude and affirmation in the moments you can.”

The follow up to his critically acclaimed 2018 album Care For Me that found Saba grappling with the aftermath of his cousin John Walt’s 2017 murder, upcoming album Few Good Things finds the Chicago polymath looking deeper within as he explores the realization of self after a search for exterior fulfilment. ‘Love Is Selfish’ precedes the release of two brand new Jack White albums: Fear Of The Dawn arrives everywhere via Third Man Records on April 8, and Entering Heaven Alive follows on July 22. Both albums are available for pre-order on vinyl and CD now. In addition to the standard black vinyl version of Fear Of The Dawn five limited edition vinyl variants have been announced and are also available for pre-order (while supplies last). Details on digital pre-orders for both albums and vinyl variants for Entering Heaven Alive will be announced soon.

Fear Of The Dawn was first announced with the release of ‘Taking Me Back’, hailed by Paste Magazine as “a return to White’s sweet spot” and joined by a companion video – directed by Jack White and co-directed by Lauren Dunn (Megan Thee Stallion, Kali Uchis). In addition, White previewed his upcoming ‘Supply Chain Issues Tour’ band in the ‘Taking Me Back (Live)’ performance video which premiered last week. WATCH HERE.

Jack White recently announced the first dates of The Supply Chain Issues Tour, with shows in North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom. Produced by Live Nation, the tour – which features White’s first headline shows in four years – begins with two sold-out Fear Of The Dawn album release shows, set for April 8 and 9 at Detroit’s Masonic Temple Theatre, and then continues through late August.

Good Morning‘s long-awaited album tour kicks off this month across Australia before they head to the US for a spring tour around the country. The band have a cult following in the US and these shows are expected to be nothing short of incredible. SEE ALL TOUR DATES BELOW.

In their near decade long tenure, in the wake of Barnyard’s release, Good Morning have been internationally celebrated, with widespread acclaim from Rolling Stone, NME, Stereogum, The Line Of Best Fit, Consequence, Alt Press, Paste, DIY Mag, Music Feeds, The Music, Northern Transmissions, KCRW, 6Music and many more, including a warm embrace across local community radio stations Triple R, PBS, FBi Radio, 2SER, Edge Radio and SYN. The album’s release also tracked New Music playlist support upon release across DSPs, alongside tastemaker editorial.

Thoughtful, catchy, idiosyncratic, and nearly twice the average length of their back catalogue, Barnyard is all the things one might love about Good Morning, this time around presented with the fat trimmed and the edges sharpened. Recorded at Wilco’s famed studio The Loft, for the first time in a long time the record was made with the help of an outside engineer and featured as an international release on a record label not operated by a friend, but instead, Polyvinyl, joining the likes of Alvvays, Julia Jacklin, STRFKR, Kero Kero Bonito and joining the ranks at Sub Pop Publishing.

Those seeking grand reinvention or earth-shaking hubris in Barnyard will come up short. This is an album of good, well-made, finely-written songs, notable for its purity and coherence of vision, but not by any means a concept album; it is a record significant in Good Morning’s history, but not one with such self-importance that it would consider itself historically significant for all. That is likely what those drawn to it will love about it. Including the singles ‘Country‘, ‘Burning‘ and ‘Depends On What I Know‘, Barnyard is not too little and not too much. It’s just right – just Good Morning. The local leg of their world tour across so-called Australia follows their regional Victoria tour throughout 2021. Plus the band will play their biggest headline show to date at the Belasco Theatre. Supports will be announced soon!

Metronomy today share ‘Things will be fine’, the second single from their forthcoming seventh studio album Small World, out on 18th February 2022 via Because Music. ‘Things will be fine’, grapples with harnessing hopeful, sunny optimism in the face of difficult situations, speaking positivity into existence whether for our own reassurance or for that of our children or loved ones – even when we have no idea ourselves if things really will be fine.

The video accompanying the single is a paean to teenage nostalgia and which Mount describes as a “sort of pseudo role-play therapy session in which we all re-visit our teenage selves. Everyone ended up more scarred than they did before making it…apart from Michael and his f*#king guinea pigs”.

‘Things will be fine’ follows ‘It’s good to be back’, as the second single from Small World, an album which sees Metronomy return to simple pleasures, nature, and an embracing in part of more pared down, songwriterly sonics, all while asking broader existential questions: which feels at least somewhat rooted in the period of time during which it was made – 2020. Finding appreciation in nature and our roots, while reappraising the things we value as we get older are all things that are part and parcel of the human experience: though it has all felt accelerated and emphasised in this past year or so. Through the tumultuous ebb and flow of the years, Metronomy continues to endure, and Joe Mount’s ability as a songwriter, arranger and producer shines through on Small World, evergreen.

ALDOUS HARDING Announces new studio album Warm Chris Out March 25 via 4AD Shares first single & video, ‘Lawn’

Today, Aldous Harding announces details of a new studio album, the follow-up to 2019’s acclaimed Designer. Warm Chris will be released on March 25 via 4AD / Remote Control Records, and its first single ‘Lawn’ is available now accompanied by visuals created by Aldous Harding and Martin Sagadin.

For Warm Chris, the New Zealand musician reunited with producer John Parish, continuing a professional partnership that began in 2017 and has forged pivotal bodies of work (2017’s Party and the aforementioned Designer). All ten tracks were recorded at Rockfield Studios and includes contributions from H. Hawkline, Seb Rochford, Gavin Fitzjohn, John and Hopey Parish and Jason Williamson (Sleaford Mods).

Warm Chris will be available digitally and on CD and black vinyl formats only.

AMIN PAYNE 

Producer/DJ/Performer based in Melbourne. Co-Founder and member of the bands ‘Due Dillagence’ & ‘OJ KUSH’. 

A vital member of the Operatives, Amin is also the co-founder of Condensed Milk, a collective & label that is renowned for drawing a crowd for its parties, talent showcases and DJ sets across Melbourne and releasing several acclaimed compilations of local and international artists. 

Amin’s latest project is his TEYMORI alias which explores a distinctive take on house music. His debut EP merges sounds of Funk, Afro, soul, percussive rhythms & takes you on an organic journey with sophisticated grooves.

PETRA is a selector who will match the energy of her sets to the vibe of a crowd. Her selection sequences have depth with an old school analogue touch, so you can expect funky jams and energetic beats, high hats and deep melodies combining old and new tunes that will have everyone moving their feet. 

Having been on the bill for the soft launch of highly anticipated ATET, with upcoming gigs for Novel and more, PETRA is hustling hard to emerge onto the Melbourne music scene in a big way.

Pie thief is an overnight cult hero of the Footscray food scene. The idea was born from Aaron Donato (Bar Josephine) and Chef Scot Blomfield (ex Supernormal) sharing pints and discussing their love and nostalgia for a crispy, delicious, buttery, pie. Today, you will still see lines down Barkly St at lunchtime of people patiently waiting to get their hands on these incredible parcels of joy.

DINGO ATE MY TACO 

Criminal Defence Attorney turned taco expert Paul Walcutt moved to Melbourne from Texas in 2019. 

His food truck/pop-up focuses on elevated Tex Mex fusing Texas BBQ techniques with fresh and delicious Mexican flavours and the result is some of the most mouthwatering tacos in Melbourne.

Mr West has teamed up with the team from Homegrown to set up an outdoor cantina bar on the day. SEPH COVE RETURNS WITH TOUCHING TRIBUTE ‘HELEN’

Known to balance the line between buoyant and affecting, the return of Seph Cove and his moving new track ‘Helen’ leaves no feeling unexplored.

Inspired by human connection, ‘Helen’ is a stirring, tempestuous tune of redemption and amity. Full of sonic versatility, and sublime production that builds to complex, powerful lows and tender highs. The track focuses on friendship and how sometimes it is important to remind the people you care for, that they are enough. “I wrote this song in response to learning about the upsetting half-year a friend of mine had during the lockdown in 2020,” Seph explains, “It was such an important reminder to have perspective. I wanted to let my friend know they had support and that despite everything, they were a very, very good person.”

After taking a year off to follow the call of wild abandonment and take time to search inwards, Seph has been pulling crowds to intimate shows at The Little Poet Bookstore, Byron Bay. And had supporters swooning at private balcony gigs. As an artist who is drawn to poetry, community, nature, and closeness, Seph has more personal shows and collaborations in the works. Live shows are not the only thing making waves for Seph, announcing today the release of his latest EP Unsafe Passage, out Friday 18 February.

Seph’s newest single, ‘Helen’ was produced with collaborator, Tim Bettinson of Vancouver Sleep Clinic and mixed and mastered in partnership with audio engineer, Luke Jenkins. While his last single ‘Sirens’ was supported with play from triple j’s Roots N’ All and media coverage from tastemakers, Variance, MILKY, and The Partae. ‘Falling’ landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday AU & NZ and ‘Sirens’ took a slot on ‘Summer Waves’. At ease on the stage, Seph has played a variety of sold-out hometown shows as the headliner and supported fellow singer-songwriter Budjerah on his sold-out Melbourne shows.

Los Angeles’s Christian Lee Hutson has announced his sophomore album Quitters today. Produced by Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst, Hutson pulls from a wide range of influences for his second record: the tight rhymes of John Prine, Bob Mehr’s book about the Replacements Trouble Boys, and Scott McClanahan’s auto-fiction The Sarah Book. It’s a recording that feels like a sonic expansion from Hutson’s debut.

Hutson has also shared a video for the lead single “Rubberneckers” (co- written with Alex Lahey) which features backing vocals from Bridgers. Directed by Zoe Donahoe and Adam Sputh, watch as Hutson plays to the camera then runs from it in resentment at the link below.

“I made the “Rubberneckers” video with my friends Zoe and Adam, who I worked with on the “Lose This Number” video,” Hutson explained. “The last time I danced was at the 8th grade social and it was mainly just swaying to “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” but I wanted to showcase what a natural, gifted dancer I am.”

Across Quitters’ 13 tracks, Hutson crafts a portrait of the place he’s from. In these short story-like songs  he presents characters who carry this golden light and sinister geography inside them. It’s a place where everything in the end gets blown away and paved over with something new, where even the ocean and fires are always whispering, “One day we’ll take it all back.”

This is a Los Angeles in constant transition, where childhood is lost, where home is gone and can never be visited again. Yet Hutson’s world is also one of happy accidents, where doors are left open on purpose, hoping that someone new will walk through. In the end, what’s left are these songs created by some future spirit, written to comfort the person we are now.

Quitters is also a departure from the digital recording of his debut. Hutson stated, “When we made Beginners the aim was to make simple digital recordings of how I would play the songs in the room. With this record, Phoebe and Conor had an idea that it would be fun to make it to tape. Phoebe is my best friend and making Beginners with her was so comfortable and easy. So I wanted to work with her again.”

“I took a long time with Beginners,” Hutson added. “I had those songs for 10 years, but these songs came out a lot faster.” Because the songs from Quitters were written in a shorter time, “there was a little bit of insecurity with the lyrics. Having Conor served the purpose of someone who I really respect as a lyricist and could soothe my anxiety.”
