The National Gallery of Victoria has announced the second edition of the landmark, city-wide exhibition, Melbourne NOW, which will be centred at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia in 2023. The exhibition will mark the ten-year anniversary of the inaugural 2013 exhibition which was a bold and unprecedented survey of some of the most exciting local contemporary practitioners. Melbourne NOW will again highlight the latest art, architecture, design and cultural practice shaping the cultural landscape of Melbourne.
The NGV will dedicate an initial $1.5 million commitment to acquire, commission and present new works by local Victorian artists, designers and architects. In a timely announcement, new works by Victorian artists will begin to be actively acquired and commissioned beginning this year and will continue for the next three years, where the works will be premiered as part of the 2023 exhibition.
‘The NGV is delighted to be able to support our local creative community with the second iteration of Melbourne NOW. We know new and significant works will be created by Victorian artists and designers for this exhibition, which will celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of our creative sector,’ said Tony Ellwood AM, Director, National Gallery of Victoria.
“Embraced by Victorians and visitors alike, the original 2013 Melbourne NOW exhibition was a landmark presentation of the most exciting art and design being made in one of the world’s most creative cities. Ten years on, Melbourne NOW 2023 is set to be an equally momentous event, while playing an important role in the post-COVID recovery of our creative sector. Although we’ll need to wait a while to see the exhibition, the NGV will start investing in the work and careers of local artists now – when they need it most,” Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley.
Celebrating new and ambitious local art and design, Melbourne Now will cross a range of contemporary disciplines including fashion and jewellery, painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, video, performance, printmaking and publishing. The exhibition will also mark the second edition of the hugely popular ‘Design Wall’ showcasing work by dozens of the city’s most innovative design practitioners, as well as popular NGV Kids interactive projects.
Bold in scale, Melbourne Now will be displayed throughout all levels of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, including permanent collection galleries, showcasing new works and commissions by emerging, mid-career and senior practitioners as well as local collectives, many presenting for the first time in Australia’s most visited art gallery.
At the heart of Melbourne Now will be a collaborative approach to the celebration of Melbourne’s artists and designers, working closely with a range of community, cultural and educational partners.
In 2013, the first edition of Melbourne Now delivered a history-making exhibition at the NGV that surveyed the enormous breath of artistic talent in the local community. Marking the first time the NGV exhibited designers alongside visual artists, the exhibition was an overwhelmingly inclusive experience offering free entry to NGV visitors.
Ten years later, the next edition of Melbourne Now will again offer free entry to NGV audiences and be complemented by an extensive public program and an exhibition catalogue providing further insights into unique aspects of the exhibition.
Melbourne Now will take place in early 2023 at NGV Australia with further information to be announced soon.

DIY Australian indie-pop artist RACKETT drops new electronic single ‘Everywhere You’re Not’ featuring NY rapper Dante Knows, co-written, produced and mixed by Dave Hammer (Lime Cordiale, Mia Rodriguez), and mastered by Andrew Edgeston (Amy Shark, Tia Gostelow).
Beat driven and bass-heavy, the single punches into a huge dance drop out of a euphoric, stripped back chorus. Featuring 16 bars of rap by NY born, SYD based rapper, Dante Knows, the single is another reveal of what RACKETT fans can expect from her debut mini-album due for release in late November 2020.
“‘Everywhere You’re Not’ is about freedom and liberation from an ex-lover. It’s a realisation that the world is a big place full opportunities and the awakening of possibilities from the limitations of staying in one place, with one person. As a massive Dante Knows fan I was thrilled to have him on the single, I saw him perform in Sydney in late 2019 and have been following his music ever since. I think he’s one of the most talented artists I’ve discovered and as the first feature I’ve ever released, it’s a big moment for me” – RACKETT

After an abrupt stop and a long pause, Moreland City Council is gearing up to hit play on Brunswick Music Festival again in March 2021. Things are going to look, feel and potentially sound, different. This is the new normal after all, but it’s the re-imagining that makes it so exciting. So, where to from here?
To accomodate for COVID-19 restrictions, the BMF team will be keeping things as flexible as possible while still finding ways to deliver special collaborations and events and fantastic opportunities for local artists, venues and audiences – dedicated and excited to bring the relief of live music to you in whichever way they can.
Since the needle skipped on this year’s event, the world as we know it has been turned upside down. Now more than ever, music feels essential and the tenets that Brunswick Music Festival is built on – neighbourhood and community, inclusivity, diversity and sustainability along with creating a sense of place and safe spaces – seem less like ideals and more like non-negotiables.
With the confinement cultivating a hotbed of creativity, the BMF team are keen to pick up what you want to put down by providing a platform for your audacious ideas, born under the cover of isolation, to be liberated through presentation in their next festival.
They want to work with you to realise your multifaceted, music-based vision in a special one-of-a-kind festival show, in all its boldness and daring, as it speaks to the new world we find ourselves living in.
They also want to hear from musicians, music groups, bands, ensembles or venues in the Brunswick area, who wants to be involved in the 2021 festival.
Local legend and champion of the music community Emily Ulman will once again take charge of expertly crafting the 2021 program, which is set to comprise a collective exhale, a healthy dose of togetherness, a huge cup of joy and some really, really, really great live music experiences.

Following the release of ‘Mr. Prism’ earlier this month, their first single of 2020, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets today share an adventure-filled clay animation video for the song. Created by Oliver Jones, who the band have collaborated with previously on their similarly kaleidoscopic videos, the video for ‘Mr. Prism’ takes us on a colourful journey through ‘sweetsville’, with some surprisingly dark encounters along the way.
Bounding along with maximum energy from the onset, ‘Mr. Prism’ is relentless in its approach – a fiery reminder of the type of band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have grown into over the last few years on the road. For McEwan, the song was born out of the feverish haze only illness and a crazy tour schedule can bring: “After our last tour of Europe I had a plethora of reasons to see a doctor. First, he thought I had tonsillitis, so prescribed me penicillin, which didn’t help at all. I did Falls Festival over New Year’s and barely got through – turns out I had pneumonia. I was pushing through on all sorts of meds until someone offered me the HMS Hunter alternative and I realised no matter how I’d ever be, I could never turn one down. Mr. Prism (my sickly fun-fuelled fiend of an alter-ego) was born.”
On the creation of the video, McEwan says: “A prismatic man needs a colourful adventure, so when we were throwing ideas back & forth with Oliver it was hard to pass on an edible Claymation. All of us were in awe when he sent us through the final animation – proper cherry-on-top work!”
PRAISE FOR MR. PRISM
“Jumbo sized excellence from PPC! This is exactly the kind of daily boost we all need in our lives. Big frenetic energy and thrill that’ll have you wide awake and ready to take on the world. “
Triple J Claire Mooney
“A majestic piece of four-minute rock that captures the group doing exactly what they do best – melting faces on and off the stage”. Tonedeaf
“A warped, propulsive new single titled ‘Mr. Prism’. Anchoring around its winding rhythms and feverish textural build-ups” Music Feeds
“A supercharged firework spreading wild af but good natured vibes wherever it’s played”.
Life Without Andy
“Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have shared their whirlwind new single Mr. Prism to fuel your soul and give you the energy you need to get through the week.” Happy Mag
“Hmmmm ok then, just pop your head in to hit us with what might be one of your best tracks to date why don’t you. Galloping full tilt and in resplendent glory.” Triple J Unearthed Tommy Faith

ABOUT HANDS LIKE HOUSES EP:
Hands Likes Houses have spent over a decade defying expectations and challenging boundaries, staking their claim as one of Australia’s most acclaimed modern rock exports. With ARIA success, a triple j feature album, multiple sold out tours and legions of global fans under their belt, the band are poised to break even more ground as they step into this new decade.
Collisions, resolutions, communication and expression heavily inform the themes found on the EP, taking listeners on a deep-dive into its whirlwind writing and recording process – scars and all.
Unlike their lauded 2018 album -Anon. – created over weeks of cruisy LA writing sessions – Trenton explains that the EP’s creation took place over a tightly condensed 10 day period. Recent single ‘Space’ finds the five-piece literally grappling with emotional and spatial tension in the less-than-ideal recording environment, meanwhile EP closer ‘Wired’ finds Trenton reconciling with his own communication barriers. With its chorus catch cry of ‘Maybe I’m burned out, maybe I’m just tired… weighed down by the way I’m wired”, ‘Wired’ finds the vocalist dealing with the exhaustion of feeling constantly misunderstood.
But though colliding creativity in an intense recording environment is the story of how this EP came to life, Hands Like Houses assert that the experience has birthed their most personally raw and uninhibited work yet. Musically, it takes everything the group have become known for over their 10+ years of recording, pulses it together and births their next step forward – a gritty, bold and rock-fuelled effort that is undoubtedly their most refined to date.
The release’s collective artworks continue on the theme of expression, capturing an alternative form of communication familiar to many – AUSLAN. Though the band clarify that they don’t have personal experience using the language, they are committed to encouraging appreciation and learning of the language among their fans. In addition, the band wanted to pay a special homage to AUSLAN interpreters who have been thrust into the media spotlight through extensive bushfire and COVID-19 coverage of late.
Hands Like Houses will release their self-titled EP on Friday October 23.

The accomplishments and emergence of wonderful South Australian music over the last 12 months is set to be celebrated this year, with the South Australian Music (SAM) Awards powering ahead for 2020.
The 2020 SAM Award winners will be announced on Tuesday November 3rd 2020. A ceremony will be conducted in line with current COVID-19 safety restrictions, the format of the celebrations will be announced at a later date.
The SAM Awards remain a standout calendar moment for the South Australian music industry, as well as becoming a key date for national industry players too to keep an eye on what’s happening in SA and discover just why it has been named a UNESCO City of Music.
In 2019, the SAM Awards hit a record of voting numbers in the lead up to the gala ceremony at Adelaide University’s prestigious Bonython Hall, which saw artists including Horror My Friend, Adrian Eagle and Electric Fields come away with awards. This year’s SAM Awards looks to amplify the voices of the SA music community once more and put the spotlight on a creative community turning heads Australia wide.
Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said: “The South Australian Music Awards will once again recognise, promote and celebrate excellence in our local music industry. The Marshall Liberal Government is proud to be a major partner of Music SA and the SAM Awards. We value our state’s music sector which, not only contributes enormously to the cultural fabric of our community, but also supports hundreds of local jobs.”
Newly appointed General Manager at Music SA, Kim Roberts says “In what’s been a very difficult year for our industry, I’m really looking forward to celebrating all of the excellent music and fantastic achievements that have emerged out of SA in the last year. It’s such a great opportunity to acknowledge the creativity and innovation that makes our community so exciting.”
As always, the SAM’s Industry and Major awards will be decided by a panel of 15 national and local judges who represent and work across various facets of the industry and are valued members of the overarching Australian music community. We are delighted to announce an exceptionally strong panel this year.

2021 Bluesfest can’t wait until next Easter on April 1 – 5th at the beautiful green Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm located 10 minutes north of Byron Bay.
Bluesfest continues to make history with its second Artist Announcement for 2021 – It is the festival’s first ever All Australian announcement and it’s something to sing about.
Adding to the already impressive line up are some of Australia’s greatest artists including TASH SULTANA and ZIGGY ALBERTS, who are both playing on Easter Saturday, as well as National Treasure, KEV CARMODY to name a few.
Bluesfest will be Tash Sultana’s only East Coast festival play, and will bring in the new band, “I’ve got to a point where the music I’ve written is beyond the capabilities of looping so I’ve decided to get a backing band to play the written parts live and I’m looking forward to performing them at Bluesfest next Easter.” says Tash Sultana.
Ziggy Alberts will be playing all new material he has been creating in lockdown. “Stoked to be back at Bluesfest 2021! I love this festival and we had such a great time back in 2018. I’m looking forward to coming out strong after some time away from touring. See ya’ll there!” says Ziggy Alberts.
Kev Carmody will show why he is regarded as a National Treasure. His new album, ‘Cannot Buy My Soul’ features guest appearances by Jimmy Barnes, Kasey Chambers, John Butler, The Waifs, Tex Perkins, Troy Cassar-Daley and lots more -this could be one hell of a jam!!
When Blues legends RUSSELL MORRIS and IAN MOSS take to the stage the Bluesfest crowd will roar.
IAN MOSS, best known as a founding member of Cold Chisel and now widely regarded as one of the best Blues guitarists in Australia, is scheduled to perform directly before Jimmy Barnes on Easter Sunday. “We are going to tear the place apart. They’ll be a lot of great Australian bands and artists hitting those stages.” says Jimmy Barnes
Rock veteran and the original “real thing” RUSSELL MORRIS spectacularly re-launched his career when he released his Blues trilogy; which features the Platinum selling ‘Shark Mouth’, the ARIA nominated ‘Van Diemen’s Land’ and the ARIA Award winner ‘Red Dirt – Red Heart’ [2012-2018]. Russell will play tracks from his latest album ‘Black and Blue Heart’ and this is one Blues banga of a show that is sure to be packed out.
Yorta Yorta man BRIGGS is the most powerful rapper in the country, HIATUS KAIYOTE is selling out 2000 seater venues and KIM CHURCHILL not only a current triple j favourite, he is also the most successful Bluesfest Busking competition winner who has now gone on to achieve national recognition, a record label and is touring nationally. Add MAMA KIN SPENDER and ALL OUR EXES LIVE IN TEXAS and the line-up is unquestionably a “top-shelf’ reflection of Australia’s best.
Commenting on the announcement Festival Director, Peter Noble OAM says “There’s a number of all Australian line up announcements to come that includes ‘real’ headliners, Indigenous artists and Blues n Roots artists. We are setting ourselves up to put on another great Bluesfest albeit in a brand new way. There will be challenges, and we expect to be presenting a festival with a lower capacity and potentially outdoors in order to have a safe event. It is sad for us to see that a number of festivals will not go ahead. However, we are working with Government to present a safe event and be part of the return of ‘live’ music in this country. Whilst it is disheartening to hear that Woodford and Port Fairy Folk Festivals feel that the challenge of presenting is something they don’t want to take on right now, and which is totally understandable, it doesn’t mean that events cannot return, and I believe it is important for Bluesfest to be a part of that return and to help lead the way.”
Bluesfest is in regular communications with Government regarding the Bluesfest COVID-19 Safety Plan that has been lodged. Bluesfest look forward to updating everyone very soon with more information regarding their Safety Plan for a COVID-19 safe Bluesfest experience.
This is the first ANNOUNCEMENT OF MAJOR all Australian artists with more to come from Bluesfest.
All ticket types and Add-Ons are on-sale now.
For further information on the line-up or artists please see here.
Bluesfest 2021 is being held from 1 – 5 April 2021. Tickets are on sale now via Moshtix.
