Australia continues to provide a wealth of antipodean talent with legendary producers Yolanda Be Cool, indie-pop shiner Pearl The Girl, Sydney electro-producer Tori Levett, Melbourne’s R&B queen Mimi and rising duo Happiness Is Wealth added to proceedings. From Japan, a formidable run of acts from the worlds of pop and electronica make their way to Hakuba Valley, including Tokyo’s underground house pioneer Chida, eye-popping, electro-pop duo FEMM (Far East Mention Mannequins), the globe-trotting Gonno, Rainbow Disco Club’s Kikiorix, revered Sapporo sound designer and producer Kuniyuki Takahashi, party-starter Mayurashka, pioneering house producer Shinichiro Yokota and the inimitable Soichi Terada with his decade-spanning selection of house cuts. Overseeing the entire event will be the festival’s official ski instructor/techno matriarch, former Triple J Radio host and icon Linda Marigliano.
Joining the already stacked lineup including What So Not, Peking Duk (DJ Set), Hermitude, Confidence Man, Hot Dub Time Machine, Kenji Takimi, DJ Kentaro and Shinichi Osawa, five incredible stage areas, a host of apres-ski locations boasting traditional Japanese bars and restaurants, Japan’s world renowned hot spring Onsen culture (which should prove a hit for aching limbs post-slopes) to sink into, plus a plethora of on-snow antics still to be announced, it’s no surprise that there are now only a handful of Snow Machine tickets left. Already establishing itself as a go-to bucket-list event before a beat has even dropped, Asia’s first ever snow-based festival promises to open up an exciting new chapter in the continent’s rich music entertainment history.
Speaking about the additions to the festival’s line-up, organisers explained they’re “pleased to round out the lineup with some of our all-time favourite Japanese DJs and local talent. In addition to the off-piste entertainment, there will be a number of on-mountain pop-up stages, activities and activations. Keep your eyes peeled for info on all these and more, and of course updates on the Best. Powder. Ever.”
Snow Machine is an all-in-one ticket offering a variety of accommodation options, a full four day festival ticket as well as snow passes and hire. Booking is simple, jump online and pay a deposit and you’ll be put in touch with one of the festival team members to further customise your trip and book your flights with our unbeatable discounts. Better be quick, only 400 tickets remain!

Following the announcement of international acts including Kevin Morby, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Hand Habits plus our own Alex Cameron, Brunswick Music Festival has today delivered its full 2020 program. Running March 9 – 22, it’s about as Brunswick as hosing down your concrete.
Refurbished, revamped and raring to go, the festival hub returns as Mechanica at Brunswick Mechanics Institute. Still a mystery to many, the prized BMF venue that premiered in 2019, Estonian House also returns; providing the chance to experience some incredible artists inside Brunswick’s stunning best kept secret.
Sheer Mag (USA) return to Melbourne, bringing their huge energy, pure passion, call-to-arms attitude and total defiance of the powers that be, all the way from Philadelphia to fill the rock’n’roll hole in our heart. Seeker Lover Keeper, the musical meld of Sarah Blasko, Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann, is a triple treat with a double feature: appearing in conversation with Fee B-Squared, before alighting the Estonian House stage with Harmony Byrne.
Did someone order the six course degustation? Brunswick Music Feastival will be serving up a delicious and nutritious aural menu with the likes of Crepes, Eggy, Sunfruits, Baked Beans, Long Lunch and Biscotti on Wednesday March 11.
ARIA nominated Mama Kin Spender will be performing their first Melbourne show in over a year with the harmonious backing of twenty-something strong First Chorus Band of Singers choir, and C. W. Stoneking will mesmerise the Estonian House audience on Friday March 13 – storyteller, genre-defier and a voice as unique as his every performance, this is a headlining spot not to be missed.
Sui Zhen‘s multi-disciplinary craft will weave a landscape of love, loss and utopian dreams on Sunday March 15, while on Tuesday 17 March Xylouris White will enchant with a collaboration that is curiously comparable to the heritage and culture of Brunswick itself.
Rejoice in the rise of imbi and Cry Club; the next generation of music makers and status quo shakers, forging paths and winning hearts on a very special weekend at the Brunswick Mechanics Institute.
And that’s not all – Dyson Stringer Cloher, Hayley Mary, Elsy Wameyo, Elizabeth, Rolling Blackouts C.F., The Merindas, Pinch Points, MOD CON, On Diamond, Ajak Kwai, Ziggy Ramo, Diimpa and more all lend their unique flair to the festival. Like a fabric store fever dream, you’re guaranteed to find something unusual and alluring in the lineup.
Plus; a highlight of the Brunswick calendar, Sydney Road Street Party returns on Sunday March 1 with another perfect afternoon of free tunes and free rein over the suburb’s centre strip. Six offical street stages, five local venue stages, a brand new food truck park featuring Triple R DJs, the Blak Dot Gallery Artist Market, and it wouldn’t be a Brunswick party without a plant sale (featuring Noisy Ritual wines).
Like picking fruit off your neighbours lemon tree, #BMF2020 celebrates what is quintessentially, charmingly and blissfully Brunswick.

Nina Kraviz (RUS)
If anyone can stake a claim for being techno’s biggest drawcard, it would be Russia’s most famous dance music export, Nina Kraviz. She is one of the most talked-about names in contemporary dance music, a popular dance identity who has transmogrified the underground scene by becoming a social and cultural identity. It’s easy to get sidetracked by the media attention following Kraviz, but for those tuned in to the nuances of dance music know she is a once-in-a-generation artist and a true tastemaker. For proof, look no further than her Trip imprint. It is littered with productions that sounds like it was sourced from a distant future where exceptional artists operate on as yet undiscovered frequencies. The label is fresh, exciting and increasingly impressive. Her DJ sets can be a musical voyage bordering on the fantastical, they can include everything from forgotten classics to modern techno rooted in experimental layers. Nina Kraviz will go down as a zeitgeist defining artist and she deserves your attention. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see her first Australian club performance since 2013.

(Aphex Twin curated event)
Aurora Halal (USA)
Joining Nina Kraviz will be the shadowy and psychedelic sounds of New Yorker Aurora Halal. As the creator of influential Brooklyn party series Mutual Dreaming and the Sustain-Release event, Aurora has positioned herself as one of America’s foremost authorities of imaginative and unique techno. Her distinctive sound has found favour with forward-thinking global events including Unsound, Atonal and Nachtdigital and regular bookings at worldwide clubs including Berghain. An Aurora Halal performance is coloured with a hazy sensuality and metallic dance floor intensity that’s at turns playful, dark, acidic, hard, euphoric and emotionally vulnerable. Or as she explained in her Breaking Through feature with Resident Advisor: “I want evocative images, hypnotic motifs—overwhelming surges of feelings, risky combinations and even uncomfortable moments, or else I’d rather go home.” This will be Aurora Halal’s first Australian show in three years.

SATURDAY APRIL 11TH 12PM-10PM
FULL LINEUP: PATRICK TOPPING, SKREAM, MATADOR, ELLIOT ADAMSON, CASEY LEAVER & LOZI
Untitled Group & Thick as Thieves have announced today that they are bringing ‘TRICK’ w/ Patrick Topping, Skream, Matador, Elliot Adamson, Casey Leaver & Lozi to one of the most intriguing and large-scale warehouse venues in Australia – The Wool Store.
TRICK is Patrick Topping’s record label which has recently seen him curate parties around the globe, including at Printworks in London supported by Len Faki and Roman Flügel, in Amsterdam’s underground Central Station, in Belfast with Amelie Lens & now he is bringing the renowned event to Melbourne this April.
After hosting a series of events at The Wool Store, including Solomun, Jamie Jones, John Talabot & Willaris. K, The Wool Store took an indefinite hiatus – now at the delight of music lovers, the space will come back to life again for a series of headline shows. The Wool Store will once again be fitted with a world-class sound system paired with meticulously curated production & set designs.
For the Melbourne edition of TRICK, Topping has selected a quality support lineup including UK’s much loved selector, Skream, as well as Dublin born producer, Matador, & house-producer Elliot Adamson. Local support will come from Casey Leaver and Lozi.
Built in the 1940s, the Australian Heritage Commission listed ‘Wool Store’ is of regional historical, cultural & architectural significance. It is the largest single wool store building in Victoria, built on a grand scale with considerable architectural refinement. It represents a peak of pastoral development when Australia rode on the sheep’s back with the wool industry playing a significant role in the development of Australia, carrying it’s economy post-World War 2 in what is now known as the ‘post-war wool boom’.
The venue is an addition to Untitled Group’s fast growing portfolio including Beyond the Valley, Pitch Music & Arts, Wildlands, Grapevine Gathering, and Ability Fest, as well as the company’s established management, booking & label divisions.
Thick as Thieves search the globe looking for the most exciting underground artists of today, to bring you the freshest touring roster in Australia. Sourcing the best local & international DJs, their events create a positive atmosphere that leaves our punters feeling good and doing good.
Patrick Topping:
Carving a reputation as the contemporary face of British house and techno, Patrick Topping continues to garner widespread acclaim on account of his prolific production prowess and dynamic DJ sets. Soundtracking countless sunrise memories as resident of Jamie Jones’ famed Paradise parties at Ibiza’s DC-10, Patrick’s now 50-release strong back-catalogue is bursting with iconic dance-floor records on labels such as Hot Creations, Truesoul and Relief Records, with further remixes for Calvin Harris and Booka Shade charting Patrick’s meteoric rise.
Armed with an arsenal of career defining productions in the form of the Beatport chart- topping ‘Be Sharp Say Nowt’, Green Velvet collaboration ‘Voicemail’, and 2014’s Ibiza track of the season ‘Forget’, Patrick’s far reaching appeal has seen him play numerous festivals including Coachella, Awakenings, Ultra, and Tomorrowland. As well as completing several tours of Australia, Europe, South America, Asia and South Africa. Patrick has performances confirmed for the year ahead including Movement Detroit, Kappa FuturFestival and for the first time is hosting his own stage a festival, at London’s Lovebox.
With Patrick reaching number 11 in Resident Advisor’s top DJs poll, landing three DJ Awards, one DJ MAG ‘Best of British’ Award and becoming one of Mixmag’s cover stars the northern powerhouse now enters a refined and developed chapter of his career. The recent birth of Patrick’s own label, TRICK, has provided a home for the UK artist to exhibit his versatility as a producer, as well as a platform to showcase the wealth of the emerging talent which he has been pushing in his DJ sets. Following the recent finale of his acclaimed Motion event series, the UK producer looks set to take things to the next level throughout 2019.
Skream:
As one of the UK’s best-loved selectors Skream has enjoyed the kind of consistency most DJs and producers can only dream of. His passion for collecting and playing music is unrelenting; disco, house, techno and everything in between… it runs deep into his core and he lives it every single day. Still only in his early thirties, Skream has achieved more in the last 15 years than most people do in a lifetime, yet his hunger and enthusiasm is akin to that of a man who is only just getting started.
Tracks like ‘Rollercoaster’ (ft. Sam Frank) and his remixes of Duke Dumont ‘Need You’ and ‘Infinity’ by Infinity Ink helped introduce the world to Skream’s shift in styles, while his mix output from 2013, cemented the change in direction seamlessly blending a variety of 4×4 styles across all of his tracks. Parallel to these pivotal releases he also showcased his eclectic tastes at his Skreamizm parties across the UK and the rest of the world, and so a new chapter began.
Matador:
As DJ Awards’ 2016 Electronic Live Performer, Matador is a revolutionary live artist with a shining reputation for versatility, whilst never compromising on quality. Accolades have been showered on the Dublin-born producer, from proud ambassador of the NEVE 5088 Console, and Richie Hawtin’s PLAYDifferently MODEL1 mixer, his tenure as an ENTER resident at their worldwide events, to his consistent spot in RA’s Live Artist poll, bringing him rapid worldwide acclaim and a devoted worldwide fan base of clubbers and peers alike. Still thirsty for new worlds to conquer, Matador, aka Gavin Lynch, recently took on a new role as label boss for his RUKUS imprint.

Fontaines D.C. met as a quintet in Dublin, influenced and driven in equal measure by the rich history of their hometown’s counter-culture, their response has been to make concise and immediately authentic indie-punk that has done anything but fall on deaf ears.
Their debut album, Dogrel (released in early 2019), spits, snarls and snaps with the very best of ‘em, but it also yearns, like the greatest Irish music must do. Their Mercury Prize-nominated debut earned the band incredibly high praise in the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, New York Times, Rolling Stone and many more. The Guardian even went as far as calling it a ‘perfect debut’.
The band have toured extensively over the last year, selling out their last three UK and EU headline tours, as well as a sold-out US tour.
Tickets to Fontaines D.C. go on sale Thursday at 10am local. If their rapid upward trajectory is anything to go by, these tickets will move just as swiftly. Visit handsometours.com for details.
“One of guitar music’s most essential new voices” – NME (★★★★★)
“An inspired debut album from a special band” – CLASH (9/10)
“By striving to find romance and poetry in grim times, Fontaines D.C. have made a record to fall in love with” – Q (★★★★)
“Yes, you do need to see them ASAP” – NME
“There was way too much fun to try and put into words” – Life Without Andy
It’s time again to turn your Good Friday into a bad one with the announcement of Sydney institution Bad Friday’s 2020 line up and news the much loved Easter event will be expanding to two days – the Bad Friday Weekender. From its origin at the Annandale hotel through to The Vic on the Park and now returning to the industrial streets of Marrickville; Bad Friday continues to grow, and so does its patronage. The only two-day festival in Sydney it’s got a line up tailor made for local Sydney music lovers, with some added international flair.
Leading their monstrous 2020 edition are the always effervescent POND who will take Friday’s headline slot, fresh from touring their eclectic show around Europe and with acclaimed funky, prog-pop album in tow. Off the back of their huge 2019 sophomore album, hip-hop laced, funk/soul six piece Winston Surfshirt will show Saturday’s Bad Friday audiences just why they’re a festival staple. Sydney’s favourite twins Cosmo’s Midnight are on the cusp of releasing their sophomore album replete with their signature electronic and R’N’B beats and Saturday Bad Friday patrons will be one of the first to hear it live.
With a resume that lists ARIA nominated and performances at Primervera and The Great Escape, Holy Holy are a welcome addition to the Friday list. With a whopping four albums in the bag the USA’s Twin Peaks need no introduction. With one of the most anticipated debut EPs this year, Bad Friday alumni Hayley Mary sheds her Jezebels skin to go solo and we’re thrilled for her to make her festival debut on our stage.
Adding to the musical talents are the undefinable Mildlife who are sure to mould their improvisations to the swelling Bad Friday crowd, the indie laden jangly pop stylings of Cool Sounds, dreamy R&B producer, singer and songwriter Stevan, genre melding hip-hop punks Shady Nasty, underground Melbourne buzz band 30/70 and the best live Americana from Caitlin Harnett & the Pony Boys.
Unparalleled for championing homegrown talent and with the last two editions selling out before doors, it’s all the more important to get in early this year. Listening to punter feedback organisers have made the decision to decrease capacity and increase amenities for a more spacious and enjoyable day.

“I’ve been hanging out to tour Australia for a long time now so I’m super excited to be able to finally be able to announce. In the past few weeks I’ve been devastated to see what’s been happening with the fires at home and we want to do our bit to help, so we’re going to be donating $AUD300,000 to bushfire relief charities.
We’ve all seen so many generous donations coming in from all around the world, which is amazing. We’re still working through exactly where the dollars will go but I want to ensure that no charity in need during this time is overlooked and that our contribution is helpful for both human and wildlife victims, as well being used actively in climate change research and bushfire prevention.”
This April, fans will experience songs from the highly anticipated new album, The Slow Rush to be released February 14. Tantalising with shimmering singles, the most recent ‘Lost in Yesterday’ is “swimming in nostalgia and hooked on a funky rhythm section” (Billboard).

2020 promises to be another grand year for events in the UK. With everything that’s going on in one of the world’s commercial and cultural centres, it can be hard to pick which ones to actually pay a visit to. Here’s a list of some of the most unique events, festivals, talks, concerts, and shows to narrow down your own cultural to-do list.
London International Mime Festival
Any lover of classic European theatre would be remiss to not attend the London International Mime Festival. Time Out has the scoop on what we can expect from the festival’s 43rd edition: a lipsync drag performance from creative duo Thick & Tight, a Chaplin-inspired tramp down memory lane, an aerial German circus about parenthood, and the bare-bones clowning of the intriguing Trygve Wakenshaw. If you’ve always been curious about mime and theatre, this is one festival you simply cannot miss. The festival is on now and will finish on February 2.
PPPoker Festival
PPPoker is an app that has exploded in user numbers over the last years. Unlike other poker apps, PPPoker is all about the social dynamics of the game than the wagering aspect of poker. And now, as in previous years, it’s launching a wave of tournaments across the world in 2020, the first of which is happening at Aspers Casino in London on January 15 to 19. During the 5-day event, Cardplayer reports that the PPPoker Festival will also host a player’s party. This will include “fun games, a live DJ and jackpot prizes”. This tournament is the perfect place to see some of the world’s best poker players compete.
London Music Conference
This conference/festival is a veritable who’s who of the London electronic music scene. Apart from concerts from brands like Red Bull Radio, Boiler Room, and Beatport, the London Music Conference will also feature discussion panels on the big topics surrounding the city’s nightlife, inclusivity and safe spaces, the role of social media in 2020, and other factors that are shaping the future of British electronic music. This political and musical gathering of the minds behind London’s nightlife will happen on January 30 to February 1.
What makes this festival different from the tons of other food festivals that are happening in the UK in 2020? It’s the only one that’s been created and developed by global science and entertainment brand National Geographic, a two-day festival that’s dedicated to both food and travel experiences around the world. This means cooking demos, tasting workshops, exhibitor stalls, and panel discussions celebrating two of the most powerful driving forces of global culture: food and travel. Catch the National Geographic Traveller Food Festival at the Business Design Centre, Upper Street, London on July 18 to 19.

Named after lyrics from the song Anthem by Leonard Cohen, How The Lights Gets In is a celebration of music, politics, literature, and philosophy. It’s one of the few festivals where the likes of media critic and philosopher Noam Chomsky shares the stage with heavy-hitting musical headliners such as British Sea Power and Anna Calvi. The best of contemporary music and philosophy under one roof — aural pleasure at its finest. While its actual dates are yet to be announced, this is one festival that should definitely be in your Google Alerts.

February 4th – The Social – London, UK – TICKETS
“…a fresh sound backboned by a reverberating, almost claustrophobic rhythm, and infiltrated with Tatlock’s saccharine, ethereal vocals” – Wonderland Magazine
“Fuzzy guitars paired with sticky sweet synths and Tatlock’s signature etherial vocals, her latest solo effort is equal parts Smashing Pumpkins, and St. Vincent – a refreshing burst of pop with integrity that pays homage to her favorite era” – C-Heads
“Merging fuzz toned sonic influences from her native London with that of her adopted home of Tokyo, her pitched pop vocal and penchant for 90s indie rock make for perfectly balanced treat” – The Line Of Best Fit
“With almost claustrophobic guitar lines and Grimes-esque vocals…a subtle punch of pop princess.” – EARMILK
“Cream With A K mixes fuzzy 90s-toned indie rock with her deceptively sweet vocal and packs quite a punch” – Born Music
Following the release of her latest single ‘Saving Face’, Tokyo via London grunge-pop chanteuse Cream With a K (a.k.a. Lee Tatlock) releases her debut self-titled album TODAY worldwide. Listen HERE
Capturing her 90’s influences perfectly with a heady dose of power pop reminiscent of The Pixies and Beck, Tatlock is in a league of her own on her fantastic debut full-length.
“The writing of this album started at the end of my J-POP career when I was living in LA and then when I moved to London”, says Tatlock. “I basically recorded this record on my laptop over 3 continents so it was kind of like a paper mache until I got in the studio with Alex O’Donovan (OCTAGON) and finalized the mix into something more sophisticated. Sharing this album with everyone, makes me feel a bit shy as if I sharing like a diary of my past self… but at the same time I’m really proud how far I’ve come – with a lot of thanks to all the fans and everyone who’s helped and got involved!”
A musician, visual artist and former model, Cream With a K is most well known for her former involvement as the singer in the Japanese Pop band NEKO PUNCH (Universal Music Japan). Having cut her teeth in the entertainment industry in Tokyo, she decided it was time to reconnect with the West through Cream with a K in early 2016, her first fully English project since her start in music. Pulling her influences from her hometown of London, her adopted hometown of Tokyo and pairing them alongside fuzzy grunge tones and etherial pop vocals makes her first solo effort a surefire head turner.
Working alongside many noteworthy Japanese producers such as Takeshi Kobayashi, Hydain and Shingo Yasumoto and bilingual in Japanese and English, she also turned her hand to song and lyric writing for other Japanese and Korean artists. In Tokyo, seen as a cultural figure who links the UK and Tokyo Music scenes, she was the TV host of the Japanese Rock music TV Show NHK’s “Nippon Rocks” series.
Cream With a K will be returning to the stage next on February 4th in London @ The Social [TICKETS HERE]
The self-titled debut is out now. Listen HERE.
