BEACH PANIC! release impressive DIY video for new single ‘Lover Boy’

by the partae February 20, 2020
written by the partae

“Heck yeah this track is fun like bombing a hill with loose trucks”
–
triple j Unearthed

“BEACH PANIC! is a project that allows the pairing to explore the heavy rhythms and fierceness of their old band but twisted into a direction that feels more approachable and colourful”
– Pilerats

Following the release of their latest infectious single, ‘Lover Boy’, Melbourne’s surf-soaked power-pop outfit BEACH PANIC! have revealed the track’s mighty impressive DIY video.

BEACH PANIC!, the colourful and contagious music outfit featuring Tom and Dan from beloved post-hardcore group Belle Haven, are an act entrenched in DIY ethos. Every piece of BEACH PANIC! content is produced solely in-house – from their recordings, press shots, film clips, album art, stage backdrops and beyond.

The new video for ‘Lover Boy’ is no exception, with the band producing the entire clip themselves.

According to BEACH PANIC!, half of the ‘Lover Boy’ video was shot and edited from their home garage / studio, with the other half shot in offsite locations.

“We pushed the limits of what can be done with a bit of imagination for the ‘Lover Boy’ clip. Shot and edited from start to finish in only a few days, half the shoot was done in our share house’s garage/studio with a DIY studio set up, comprising of some fabric off cuts, a studio light and a few clamps.

Shooting in guerrilla style, the second half of the clip had us starring in some of our favourite outdoor settings, with some fabulous hand-painted outfits by our very own artist Tequila Sunrise.

We also used some re-purposed and painted op shop furniture that took a dip with us in the Warrandyte river. Just out of frame, we had an audience of around 100 people enjoying a nice summer day by the water. We also found time to pop into our local roller skating rink to carve it up in our fabulous matching outfits.”

A track that tugs firmly on your heartstrings, ‘Lover Boy’ is an unadulterated genre mashup that launches with ‘50s inspired doo-wop vocal stylings and explodes into a punk-rock wave rider, replete with Supergrass-esque harmonies and a splash of punchy post-hardcore guitars thanks to the band’s Belle Haven origins.

The ever-prolific musicians, BEACH PANIC! are currently working away on a new EP, slated for release in the first half of 2020. But for now, give ‘Lover Boy’ a hearty spin.

TEENAGE DADS RELEASE ADRENALINE RUSH + TOUR WITH THE MOVING STILLS KICKS OFF 1ST MARCH

“It’s a bit like King Gizz meets The Beach Boys” Declan Byrne – triple j Home & Hosed

A breezy, blissful bop plucked right out of the 60s, Melbourne’s Teenage Dads today release the giddy inducing ‘Adrenaline Rush’ which premiered via Home & Hosed on triple j last night.

Self-made, self managed and incredibly fun live, Teenage Dads have whipped up two EPs and a debut album full of rich, reminiscent melodies over the last two years. Their newest creates a sweet – almost hypnotic – soundscape, packed with charming vocals, honky-tonk piano and groovy basslines,

Exploring a dreamy tale of finding love, vocalist Jordan Finlay explains “Adrenaline Rush is about the head over heels feeling you might get for someone, and how it can feel like something from a dream and completely change an identity“

Teenage Dads’ kinetic energy and righteous live shows have propelled the band who recently toured nationally with Lime Cordiale and performed alongside Montaigne, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Ruby Fields and Northeast Party House. Arriving fresh from an appearance at St Kilda Festival and NYE on the Hill Teenage Dads soon join forces with The Moving Stills for a huge regional headline jaunt announced earlier this week. Tickets for ‘The Antics Roadshow’ featuring Teenage Dads and The Moving Stills are on sale now and Teenage Dads’ single ‘Adrenaline Rush‘ is out NOW.

Commenting on the announcement, Head of Touring at Bluesfest, Kimberley Galceran said “Every year our headliners select their support artist from a shortlist of some of the best emerging talent, contemporary favourites and legends in their own right. It’s a pleasure watching the list of supports come together, they add to the richness, diversity and flavour of our sideshows. I often hear people exclaiming “how good was the support act!?” to a stranger during intermission and it gives me a smile. There’s an act in here you haven’t heard yet, that you’ll be playing for years to come, give them a listen.” A strong obsession with space and novels helps inspire the concepts and writing within BATTS music. Solomon Cole's sound evokes the wordy dark tales of Tom Waits, and marries it to the blues effigies of Son House, R L Burnside, or Howlin’ Wolf in spirit, and wraps it all up in a little rock’n’roll package like some Black Keys/voodoo inspired Mardi Gras for the lonesome and downtrodden. Solumon supports The Marcus King Band in Auckland this April. Since topping the charts on Triple J’s Unearthed for the seventh time, The Lyrical has become THE rising star of the music scene on the Sunshine Coast. Teaming up for their debut single with British singer-songwriter JO3L, Italian trio Lazy Guys will release brand new track ‘How To Fly’ via Insanity / Sony Music on February 21. A pure and energetic dance-pop hit, ‘How To Fly’ oozes with feel good synths, uplifting hooks and a driving bassline, fused with anthemic vocals. Obstacles won’t get in the way of SARAI’s 20-20 vision. 2019 was a stellar year, re-introducing herself to the world as a real MC and taking Aussie hip-hop by storm. Spotlighting her pursuit for glory and self-love on anthems “Winner Represent” and “All My Life”, SARAI caught the ears of many local and international tastemakers, most notably fellow Aussie hip-hop pioneer Tuka (Thundamentals). SARAI was personally invited to support Tuka for his “Selling Me Out” Tour in Newcastle and Brisbane, leaving fans hyped and begging for more. Now into the new decade there are no more excuses, no holding back – it’s time to be ‘on my way’ for this female powerhouse.  “On My Way”, SARAI’s first self-produced track, is a wrap on her life story and the soundtrack to her relentless hustle. SARAI combines rock guitars and trap beats with a ‘Ginuwine-“Pony”-like’ bass for an all-out explosion of adrenaline necessary to concur all the demons and distractions. Mixing influences of Rihanna and Banks, SARAI is fighting off all challengers, creating her own destiny by creating her own sound.  “On My Way” will be available on all streaming services Friday, February 21st.

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there? I'm currently in Perth Australia and I have to say I am proud of the music scene right now. I really feel like 2020 is our time, a lot of great talent over this way and it's starting to slowly get recognised on a much bigger scale outside of our city.  How did you first start playing music/DJing? A few years ago I started throwing these huge house parties and didn't want other people fucking the vibe with their selections. So I thought, I'll just DJ them myself. Someone happened to see me play and offered me my first club gig. I remember him saying "You've played in clubs before, right?!" and I was like "yeah of course bro!" hahaha.. I took that confidence to the gig and from there my resume speaks for itself. How was your 2019? Man last year was crazy. I spent a lot of time in LA, networking and working on the vision. Did a lot of huge gigs, here and internationally. Started having some real success with the label. 2019 was good. So, what's been happening recently? A lot man! We've recently expanded the team at Dough Related, and we've been pushing hard. One of our artists, REGI FLIH, has started to make some heavy waves in the Australian/NZ scene, and we're now pushing into the US. Just hit 100k US streams on one of his tracks last week actually! But collectively we are at almost 2 million streams across all of his singles/platforms which is great. You've just headlined Cake Festival in Perth, how was the show? How did the headline come about? It was insane, man. The energy at CAKE is always wild. Everyone is there to turn up and have a good time. Easily one of my favourite gigs to play at, I also played the main set at the Official After Party and the energy just carried all the way through. I've had a residency at CAKE since the first one back in 2018, and each show is bigger and better than the last. I had some local artists come up and perform one of their tracks during my set this time, it was vibes, bro. Please tell us about any new music that you've been working on: 2020 is going to be a big year for us. We have been going really hard in the studio recently building a backlog of tracks to dribble out throughout the year. I'm really excited to get it going. You're the founder/CEO of record label 'Dough Related' how and why did you decide to start your own record label? To be honest I didn't plan it haha. Dough Related was set up organically to help out a friend of mine but I soon fell in love with the game and realised the music business is my thing. It started as my little baby that I nurtured and now seeing it grow is even more inspirational, man. How has the experience with running your own label been so far and what have you found most rewarding and challenging? I think the most rewarding thing about owning a label is working with creatives from start to finish to literally turn dreams and thoughts into reality. I've had a lot of great experiences too, I don't like to name drop but boy do I have some stories haha. And yeah, of course, there are plenty of "challenges" but I see them more as goals to overcome. I don't like being told I can't achieve something, so I will work even harder to make sure I prove them wrong haha. What do you like to do away from music? It sounds cliche but I feel like away from music I am still working. I'm either learning about the industry or how to work smarter and better. Always pushing! Who are you listening to at the moment? There's a lot of Artists out there on my radar. A lot of dope music coming out of my city too. Anything I'm listening to goes into my 'Present' playlist on Spotify though so get around it! [Link] What's planned for 2020? I've recently started a local musician showcase called Platform so that will get bigger this year, I want to also do at least one interstate version of it. A lot of travel. A lot of releases. A lot of shows. Pushing harder with my Artists, already got a few dope collabs in the works which will be fun to drop. It's going to be one hell of a year boy. Favourite food and place to hangout? Nando's in Australia. Taco Bell in US. Damn, I love food, man. @doughrelated

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?

I’m currently in Perth Australia and I have to say I am proud of the music scene right now. I really feel like 2020 is our time, a lot of great talent over this way and it’s starting to slowly get recognised on a much bigger scale outside of our city.

How did you first start playing music/DJing?

A few years ago I started throwing these huge house parties and didn’t want other people fucking the vibe with their selections. So I thought, I’ll just DJ them myself. Someone happened to see me play and offered me my first club gig. I remember him saying “You’ve played in clubs before, right?!” and I was like “yeah of course bro!” hahaha.. I took that confidence to the gig and from there my resume speaks for itself.

How was your 2019?

Man last year was crazy. I spent a lot of time in LA, networking and working on the vision. Did a lot of huge gigs, here and internationally. Started having some real success with the label. 2019 was good.

So, what’s been happening recently?

A lot man! We’ve recently expanded the team at Dough Related, and we’ve been pushing hard. One of our artists, REGI FLIH, has started to make some heavy waves in the Australian/NZ scene, and we’re now pushing into the US. Just hit 100k US streams on one of his tracks last week actually! But collectively we are at almost 2 million streams across all of his singles/platforms which is great.

You’ve just headlined Cake Festival in Perth, how was the show? How did the headline come about?

It was insane, man. The energy at CAKE is always wild. Everyone is there to turn up and have a good time. Philadelphia-based musician Adam Stehr is debuting his brand new artist project - STEHREO. Two decades in the making, the STEHREO project puts an original twist on analog recording techniques, while maintaining consideration for processing and presentation in the digital realm.  Having found its way to the ears of longtime collaborator Gramatik, STEHREO's first single "Chasing Demons" releases today via Gramatik imprint Lowtemp.  "Chasing Demons" is the single and title track from the STEHREO debut album coming soon also via Lowtemp. As with all forthcoming songs off the project, "Chasing Demons" is written, recorded, mixed and produced solely by Adam Stehr.  The song "Chasing Demons" was initially used as a testing ground for exploring and achieving sounds that had been marinating in Stehrʼs brain. Pleased by the results and its positive feedback, "Chasing Demons" quickly evolved from a B-side into the title track of STEHREOʼs first album. An indie-rock tinged single that makes heavy use of organic instrumentation such as electric guitar and drum kit, "Chasing Demons" showcases Stehr's talents as a vocalist as he soul searches throughout the four-minute single. "Every individual is faced with their own personal demons," explains Stehr. "They come in all forms and are often times deceiving. If youʼre not careful, you may find yourself chasing demons without even realizing it." A Pennsylvania native, Stehr has traveled the world performing everything from Folk and Rock to Blues and EDM. Now based in Philadelphia, Stehr channels his love of music through production and performance. Drawing heavily from early American music genres, STEHREO explores unexpected ways to close the musical generation gaps: "My primary goal in releasing these songs is simply to affect people. I hope that the music can help someone get through their day or even just smile for a moment, dance with their coworkers, do something nice for a stranger, or even cry a little. I feel very fortunate to be in a position to create music and Iʼd like to share it with people in a way that is relatable. Art and love are two things that we as humans have yet to fully explain and understand. How can something so simple make us feel such intense emotions? Because it is not simple at all. Itʼs non-binary and complex. For me, music is magic." -Adam Stehr

The full Australian tour dates of Serbia's most prominent DJ  Tijana T

The full Australian tour dates of Serbia’s most prominent DJ Tijana T

by the partae February 19, 2020
written by the partae

Tour Dates

Friday 6th March: Pitch Music & Arts, Moyston
Friday 13th March: Universal, Sydney
Sunday 15th March: The Black Madonna pres. We Still Believe
@ The Timber Yard, Melbourne

For more than a decade now Tijana T has been a key figure in her native Serbian dance scene. She has gained much respect and recognition for her monthly all-night long marathon sets at the legendary Belgrade spot 20/4. Now she is an international name who has headlined Boiler Room and many seminal clubs including Berlin’s Panorama Bar and Tresor and We Love…Space in Ibiza. Festivals like Dimensions, Hideout, Flow and Exit, are just some of the internationally renowned brands. Far from being just a DJ, Tijana T is also a talented vocalist who has provided vocals to artists including Abe Duque and techno star Marc Houle. She returns to Australia as one of the more requested Pitch Music & Arts acts, alongside being the official guest at The Black Madonna’s We Still Believe event in Melbourne.

For close to 20 years, Tijana T has been a key part of Serbia’s music scene. Now a full time DJ, Tijana T is overtaking on the inside fast lane to global stardom. Her mastery of an acid-dominant techno style with elements of breakbeat, house, electro and synth-rock has turned ears all across the globe. This lethal dancefloor style has propelled her to become one of the busiest and most durable DJs on the tour circuit. Over 300 shows in over 40 countries in six continents since the start of 2016 tells its own story. Spinning coldwave at dawn in Antarctica? Surely not far off.

Unlike other breakthroughs in the game, Tijana T has put in the hard hours. As this burst of recent activity shows, she was completely ready to make the leap and break out of Belgrade when the time came. Now, she does it all. Whether opening or closing, on Ibizan terraces or in smokey basements, soundtracking the sunrise for a few hundred or headlining festival stages to tens of thousands, the details are immaterial. What happens when she plays is empathy with the audience, selecting music to expand their hunger, as well as satisfy their pleasure-centre core. This is why everyone from Berghain to The Bunker NYC, and Beats In Space to Boiler Room have called upon Tijana T lately. On top of that, global titans Dystopian, Afterlife and EXIT Festival have welcomed her into their family of A-tier residents.

Belgrade is where the artist born Tijana Todorovic first made her name, moving from heavy presence on local TV and radio to marathon slots across town, specifically the world-renowned Drugstore and Klub 20/44. Now the tables have turned: in the late 2010s, she is making Belgrade’s name. Tijana T has become a global ambassador for the city, tirelessly exporting its culture. As her reputation has travelled, so has she. Negative preconceptions about Serbia are falling, replaced by the squelch of a 303, a touch of class behind the booth, and more and more people admiring this fiercely determined talent.

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?   I am currently based in between Brisbane and Byron Bay, my family home is in Byron and often go home to see my parents who own a farm there and help out. Both places for me have a unique place in music. There are some really good promoters who throw some spectacular parties at the moment - Sub Rosa in Brisbane has been a highlight recently bringing some really tasteful international acts like Patrice Baumel, Jeremy Olander, Pig & Dan, Undercatt just to name a few.   How did you first start playing music?   When I was 13 I  had gone to Canada on a family trip and was heavily influenced by my cousins who at the time were holding events and listening to Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Armin Van Buuran and most of the big trance Dj’s back then. I came back from that trip a bit inspired and very interested by dance music as it was all very new to me.   I saved some money and bought some CDJ’s when I was about 14, I was still in high school but me and a few friends started all djing at these house parties which really shaped my sound, it was a great time as we would be all searching on blogs and sharing music with each other…we all have a few release’s under our belts now which is funny too. After about 2 years I became friends with some of the local promoters in Byron Bay and managed to sneak into some gigs in town in-which they put me on the line up and opened up the door so very thankful to those guys – Webber, Deegs & Dobbie thanks!.   Please tell us a little about where you grew up and how this impacted your music?   I grew up in 10 minute’s from Byron Bay so there wasn’t naturally a lot to do with friends as we were always so spaced away and not being able to drive then was an issue. I would spend most of my teen years just listening & collecting music but I guess living away from friends was also a blessing as I had a lot of spare time trying to learning to use music software after school.   What's been happening recently?   I’ve been working in studio and finishing some more music, a bit darker and a more peak time techno so pretty keen to get that out and begin to play it out at gigs. I’m also beginning to lock in some shows locally which im looking forward to showcase a lot of unreleased material.    Your new 3 track EP 'Sour Minds' is out now, what influenced the sound and writing for this EP?   Fusions of sounds that I really like I guess. Most of the tracks have a progressive vibe and a nice groove underneath with a few afro percussive elements also. i really wanted to have some sort of vocal in every track to just use as an element and carry the track through which really tied the whole EP together. You can hear a bit of everything and I guess that’s me just listening to a bit of everything at the moment.   How did you go about writing Sour Minds?   Sour Minds I wrote over 2 days, I started with a simple drum rhythm and added in some atmospheric elements to get the main atmosphere going which is that main saw synth that you hear in the intro. I had recently just bought the Mini V synth plugin and was playing around with that a fair bit so tweaked some patches and came up with the main arpeggio/lead with a vocading LFO on it to give it a bit of movement.   After that I found some vocals that fitted the right vibe which I actually found on splice, yes Splice! Its an awesome platform and go to when I need to find an element just to get the idea’s flowing. The next day I kind of just refined the song structure and a quick mix down to get it ready to send away as a demo. It was the actually the last track I wrote and became the 1st on the EP   Where and when did you record/produce?   In my studio room at my 2 bedroom flat in Brisbane. I often find myself up in the mornings or late afternoons in the studio, its almost a routine for me to hop on in the early mornings for an hour or 3. I wrote the Sour Minds EP over the course of about 2 months early last year, although I had produced ‘The Thoughts, The Fears” about 2 years ago now I revisited that and changed it quite a bit.   What programs/equipment did you use to record/produce?   I wrote the whole EP on Ableton and used a range of VST plugins, I had actually used some old speakers from Pioneer to write & mix down roughly  at the beginning of the year. I have recently just purchased some ADAM Audio S2V’s which are freaking awesome and really pin pointed the flaws in my 1st mix down for all three tracks.   Please tell us about your current recording/production setup, what you have in the arsenal and how you came about finding the equipment:   As mentioned I have a pretty simple space as im mostly in the box with Ableton, although I have just purchased some ADAM S2V’s which were an expensive purchase but 100% worth it, they have really given me a bit more depth/clarity and helped me refine my mix down’s at the pre-mastering stage.    I have been really loving the V Collection which has some awesome plugins modelled off some great vintage & modern synthesizers -They sound really organic even though they are digital thanks to the TAE modelling process. Besides that I have a Minilogue which I use often for random sounds like effects and background sounds in tracks.   I’m looking to purchase a DeepMind 12 & ASM Hydrasynth. I luckily have a really good friend who has just built a dream studio of his (little street studios). He has a lot gear which I am able to play with and I guess pick the synths that cater to my taste which is a bonus!. Its good to have his knowledge and bring that back into my studio which is always refreshing for creativity.   What do you have planned for Sour Minds?   I’ve got some shows coming up so I’m am really keen to play it out and see the reaction from people as I haven’t actually played it loud yet. I’ve had some really good feedback from other DJ’s who have played it out loud and they said it works really well, I guess all 3 tracks bring a different vibe to the floor.    What do you like to do away from music?   I play a lot of soccer and often am at the family farm which is kind of therapeutic for me to get away from the city. I also work for JBL in their consumer electronics side of the business as a rep which is awesome. It gives me great insight into fresh products, music, events and how that all correlates into business which is interesting to see.   Who are you listening to at the moment?   Listening to a range of everything really. I have been liking Henrik Schwarz, Guy J, Patrice Baumel, Adriatique & Tiefscwarz. Besides that everything on the Innervisions label has been really inspiring.   You've been receiving a lot of support from big names in the dance music scene  like Eric Prydyz and the likes, how has the whole experience with these big artists been so far?   Eric Prydz has really been a inspiration to me from the beginning, just his simplicity with production in his music always astonishes me. For him to play one of my tracks in his BBC essential mix a couple of years back was a huge thing for me, I just wrote that track sitting in my bedroom studio and totally forgot about it until I heard it randomly. This for me gave me a bit of confidence to try new things in the studio and really dig deep into production.   What's in store for 2020?   More music and more shows, I have been working on a lot of new material!.   Favourite food and place to hangout?  Kimchi Pork fried rice . Its always good to just hang out anywhere with friends really, personally my favourite is the lounge room when I have nothing on haha!

You’ve been receiving a lot of support from big names in the dance music scene  like Eric Prydyz and the likes, how has the whole experience with these big artists been so far?

Eric Prydz has really been a inspiration to me from the beginning, just his simplicity with production in his music always astonishes me. For him to play one of my tracks in his BBC essential mix a couple of years back was a huge thing for me, I just wrote that track sitting in my bedroom studio and totally forgot about it until I heard it randomly. This for me gave me a bit of confidence to try new things in the studio and really dig deep into production.

What’s in store for 2020?

More music and more shows, I have been working on a lot of new material!.

Favourite food and place to hangout?
Kimchi Pork fried rice. Its always good to just hang out anywhere with friends really, personally my favourite is the lounge room when I have nothing on haha!

written by the partae

In addition to moving to a bigger venue, Don’t Let Daddy Know is going bigger with their line-up for this major event as well with dance titans like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Oliver Heldens and Fedde Le Grand to name a few.  During this completely new indoor festival on Friday, March 6  the Dutch dance concept will welcome 30.000 visitors, more party people than ever.

WATCH TRAILER

Besides the mainstage there will be a hardstyle stage and a Sexy By Nature stage, where Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano will play their second set of the evening. These three areas with an extremely well curated list of DJ’s insure the high quality experience Don’t Let Daddy Know stands for.

Earlier, successful Dutch dance concept Don’t Let Daddy Know announced that they move venues for their 2020 event from Ziggo Dome to RAI Amsterdam. Due to the extremely high number of pre-registrations for their annual weekender in March 2020, E&A Events decided to celebrate the seventh edition at this new location. They’ll create a completely new indoor festival on Friday, March 6 called Don’t Let Daddy Know Music Festival.

Ever since its inception on party island Ibiza, the Don’t Let Daddy Know events turned into much more than just a club night; they became a movement, a lifestyle. After seven years of sold-out shows, hundred of thousands of happy dancers from all over the world and a top of the bill line up, RAI Amsterdam will welcome 30.000 party people and take them on a magical musical rollercoaster ride.

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there? Currently based out of Toronto! My heart will always have a soft spot for our music scene. There is a real sense of community and people supporting other people that I really love. It makes navigating this crazy industry feel a lot less lonely when you do it together.   How did you first start playing music? My little 7 year old self in piano and voice lessons! Music and art were the biggest part of my childhood. Fun fact: I played trombone in highschool! What's been happening recently? I find winter, especially post January there’s this surge of change and it sparks a lot of feelings that get put down onto paper. I’ve also been tapping into other creative aspects of the project, creating some cool visuals for live shows, videos, etc. trying to make the Bedhead experience a little more multi-media which is something I’ve always envisioned. Basically it’s a lot of fabric shopping, I love me some new fabrics. Your new single 'Fight No More' is out now,  what influenced the sound and songwriting for this single? The songwriting just flowed from this heavy emotional space I was in. I started writing the song when I found myself feeling overwhelmed and frustrated with my depression, after years of getting help and feeling like I hadn’t made any progress. The song was born from that moment of “enough’s enough”. For the production, artists like Robyn, Lorde and the Naked and Famous were big influences on the sound for this song. How did you go about writing Fight No More? I started writing Fight No More about 2 years ago in the summer at this park near where I live. It started with a few melodies and the main lyric in the chorus. The baseline intro was the next thing written. From there I usually noodle around with a piano or guitar to start putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Although the songwriting process changes every song, I usually start with chords and melodies, and the lyrics sprinkled in between.  Where and when did you record/produce and who did you work with? I first recorded the song with Feurd Moore, who I’ve worked with before on an earlier project. It started as just a basement recording, but we knew we had something special. There were so many things that Feurd added in that I can’t imagine the song without now, like the guitar licks and bright synths. Later on, we brought on Derek Hoffman of Fox Sounds (who also mixed the track) who really just took what we had to the next level, giving it that extra kick (literally) How did you approach the recording process? With this track I really grasped the importance of emotion when delivering a vocal performance, which is a very vulnerable place to be away from the park by yourself to a booth with other people. Having Derek and Feurd there made the process a lot more comfortable, and they are wonderful friends and mentors. What programs/equipment did you use to record? We’re all about ProTools!!  What do you like to do away from music? I love being creative and crafty! I paint a lot, and love taking photos of pretty much everything, but especially nature and animals. My favourite things are going on nature walks, and exploring new places with my friends.  Who are you listening to at the moment? Tame Impala’s new record The Slow Rush!! What's planned for 2020? I have a Sugar Beach session with 102.1 The Edge AND a show at the Rivoli on Feb 27th! More shows to come throughout the year, and the release of my EP. I have a few other surprises up my sleeve, stay tuned! Favourite food and place to hangout? Wow I love so many foods, I will never say no to pizza or pasta (please don’t make me choose haha!) As much as I love going out to see shows at the Horseshoe Tavern, there’s nothing like going over to my friends’ place, staying in and playing some board games.  Socials: @heyitsbedhead  Website: bedheadmusic.com

Currently based out of Toronto! My heart will always have a soft spot for our music scene. There is a real sense of community and people supporting other people that I really love. It makes navigating this crazy industry feel a lot less lonely when you do it together.

ARCHIE ROACH ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIAN TOUR TELL ME WHY - THE FINAL ROUND 1990-2020 In his final national tour ever, legendary songwriter, “voice of the Stolen Generations” and 2020 Victorian Australian of the Year Archie Roach AM will take his brilliantly reviewed Tell Me Why show to capital cities May through September. This spectacular live concert will celebrate Roach’s eponymous memoir and companion album. Audiences will hear seminal songs from his back catalogue alongside influential music from his youth and three new autobiographical songs written since completing his memoir. With well documented health challenges, including a stroke and lung cancer, Archie Roach is by most measures not a well man, but once he takes to the stage a certain majesty takes over and the stories and the songs are as compelling as the voice that sings them. “Some songwriters wrap themselves in cloaks, whether of enigma or inanity, and some bare their souls. Then there's Archie Roach.” - Sydney Morning Herald (Jan 2020) Roach will be joined onstage by his five-piece band, including award-winning jazz composer and improviser Paul Grabowsky, and special guest vocalist Emma Donovan. For Archie announcing this as his last national tour has not been an easy decision to make. “Releasing my debut album, Charcoal Lane back in 1990, was the most amazing experience in my life. I never imagined that I would be here three decades later still recording and singing on stages in Australia and the world. Music has kept me going, kept me alive. It’s something that I have come to love, especially the relationship I have with those who come to my shows. I am also most grateful to all the people that I have worked with through the years.” Thirty years after the release of Roach’s two-time ARIA Award-winning debut album Charcoal Lane (1990), Tell Me Why is a compelling account of resilience, strength of spirit, and great love. Through stories of the iconic songwriter and activist’s life, this is an intimate, moving and often confronting musical journey as Roach searches for a deep sense of belonging. The much lauded Tell Me Why memoir and companion album have shown how inseparable are his life and his songs, with the first single from the album ‘Open Up Your Eyes’ already shortlisted for the prestigious 2020 APRA Song of the Year, the largest peer-voted music award in Australia. From a stolen child and teenage alcoholic to seeker, lover (with his life partner the late Ruby Hunter), father, musical icon, social advocate and First Nations leader, not many have lived a life as compelling as Archie Roach. “This is a phenomenal work by one of the most articulate and recognisable members of the Stolen Generation. It will be read, studied and discussed for many years to come.” - Weekend Australian “This powerful memoir is a generous gift to the whole of Australia. A captivating unputdownable story.” - Herald-Sun It has been 12 years since then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered the Australian Government’s National Apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Roach’s story shows how his extraordinary odyssey through love and heartbreak, family and community, survival and renewal is a testament to the healing power of music. Roach has also received a Human Rights Achievement Award for his iconic Stolen Generations song, ‘Took the Children Away’; a first for any songwriter.
