“Have known of the Teskeys for so many years… introduced in the early days but had no idea about the whole process! Great listening! Loved it!”
–Apple Podcasts review
With only two episodes remaining from the six-episode instalment, listeners are taken on the journey from the band’s humble beginnings in Warrandyte to the recording of critically acclaimed sophomore album Run Home Slow to sold out tours across the globe.

Many people who work intimately with the band were interviewed for the series: 32 in total across the USA, UK, Germany and Australia including Josh Teskey (vocals and rhythm guitar), Sam Teskey (lead guitar), Brendon Love (bass guitar) and Liam Gough (drums) who make up The Teskey Brothers. Add to that the voices of Mushroom boss Michael Gudinski, Glassnote Records’ Daniel Glass (US) and humble publican Helen Stamkovski, who gave them their first gig in St Andrews Pub when they were teenagers.

Catch up with music journalist and 180 Grams podcast host Mikey Cahill who narrates the captivating highs and whirlwind lows The Teskey Brothers endured while recording Run Home Slow in their home studio in Warrandyte. Not only a band but mates for over 15 years, become part of Team Teskey as we learn how they overcome the pressures of recording the “very difficult” second album, resolve tensions of conflicting creative ideas and follow the heavy toll it takes on the group physically and mentally. Listen to the first four episodes here.

With the final two episodes set for release Tuesday 21st and 28th July (respectively), jump on tour with The Teskey Brothers as they make their way through a round the world tour… one member short. Tag along for the reunion when they perform a high-stakes set all together again at one of Australia’s most prestigious festivals.

EX-OLYMPIAN Signs to Dot Dash Shares new single & video 'Voices In My Head'

EX-OLYMPIAN Signs to Dot Dash Shares new single & video ‘Voices In My Head’

by the partae July 15, 2020
written by the partae
Remote Control Records is pleased to welcome Melbourne’s Ex-Olympian to the Dot Dash Recordings roster, joining artists including Methyl Ethel, Sui Zhen, Donny Benét, Banoffee & more.

Ex-Olympian is the new musical vessel for Liam McGorry – songwriter & musician for bands such as Saskwatch and Dorsal Fins. Named after the neon sign that adorns ‘Borsari’s Corner’ in Melbourne’s Lygon St, Ex-Olympian reflects the times we all need to shift things forward into a new phase. Musically, things are shifting gears too.

As revealed by The Industry Observer, Ex-Olympian shares “I’ve had a lot to do with [Dot Dash] over the years with both Saskwatch and Dorsal Fins, and they are honestly one of the most lovely, fervent champions of Australian Music out there. It’s an honour to add a little Dream Funk to the Dream Team.”

Dot Dash Recordings and Remote Control Records co-director Harvey Saward adds “We have always loved working with Liam. He’s a phenomenal writer and musician… we’re so chuffed to be able to add Ex-Olympian to our Dot Dash roster and share his vocal debut with the world.”

To celebrate the news, Ex-Olympian today shares his debut single & video ‘Voices in My Head’ – the A-side of a new 7” record out Friday 31 July, in a partnership between two Melbourne icons: Northside Records & Dot Dash / Remote Control Records. It’s also McGorry’s vocal debut.

‘Voices In My Head’ is a cinematic, skittish song about scrambling to reconcile the many voices of today’s world in your head… about trying to find yourself amongst a mess of self-doubt, social media envy and climate anxiety. It’s disco-tinged B Side ‘Lilac Youth’ is a meditation on the dangers of losing yourself to nostalgia and ego, on focusing on past glories. The song (co-written and sung by former Saskwatch bandmate Nkechi Anele) is a nice soulful moment, where past and present align together.

“Dream Funk” is the official moniker for Ex-Olympian’s music – as coined by Northside Records’ head-honcho Chris Gill. With a focus on soaring melodies and lush arrangements, it takes cues from the music of heroes Reneé Geyer, The Avalanches, Arthur Verocai and Badbadnotgood. Recorded with a raft of pals back in 2017, including Cal Barter at the wheel, it was then handed to a fellow friend and confidant Haima Marriott, who mixed and co-produced the songs with McGorry.

Like all good things… it’s taken time. We hope you’ll enjoy, Ex-Olympian.

ETHAN P. FLYNN Releases debut single & video ‘Everybody’s Dying To Meet You’

by the partae July 15, 2020
written by the partae

In L.A, April 2018, In the midst of emerging adulthood and in the transitional period between amateur and professional musician, Ethan P. Flynn wrote and recorded what would become his debut single: ‘Everybody’s Dying To Meet You’. Released today via Young Turks / Remote Control Records, the songwriter, beatmaker and multi-instrumentalist stars in the accompanying video in which we flick back and forth through time catching snapshots of Flynn’s wild life – watch the video here. Beneath the more tongue-in-cheek elements of the song there lies a brutal honesty, a hopeful humour and a devastating sadness, displaying himself as an imposter going through a personality crisis.

After dropping out of Guildhall aged 18, Flynn began immersing himself in the fringes of London’s music communities, collaborating with acts like Jeshi, TTY, Jockstrap, Vegyn, Slowthai, Celeste and Black County, New Road before word spread of his deep lyricism and surrealist compositions, which led him to work with FKA twigs on her most recent album Magdalene.

With musical inspirations that run the gamut from Sparklehorse to Madlib, Julia Holter to Danny Brown and Tom Waits, Flynn has in turn developed a songwriting flair that is now fully revealing itself through his own work as an artist. You’ll find all of this and more on his debut collection B-Sides and Rarities: Volume 1. Originally available only via Bandcamp, it was released on vinyl in January 2020 by Tokyo’s renowned Big Love Records (“A genius appears! The first hero of the 2020s!” the cult label exclaimed). This fairytale of a compilation may well morph again this year. Like its creator, it’s many things all at once.

“All your favourite bands rolled into one” – Paris Youth Foundation return with LATE NIGHT LOST LOVE…

“All your favourite bands rolled into one” Paris Youth Foundation play it cool and sing the highs of heartbreak with:

LATE NIGHT LOST LOVE

Paris Youth Foundation – Late Night Lost Love
OUT NOW – Modern Sky
Tied to the past while hurtling towards the early hours and the night’s most fertile texting your ex territory, Paris Youth Foundation write the curiosity and euphoria of ‘the one that won’t go away’ in Late Night Lost Love – OUT NOW on Modern Sky. Festival stage natives that have thrilled alt-rock-pop fans waiting for new heroes, the five-piece swell their sound with cascading, arena-scale guitars and emotive, layered vocals to capture the very essence of nocturnal longing.

Writing to the tune of a very real personal saga, front man Kevin Potter, makes an artform of wry observations that cast light on the bad romantic habits familiar to millions. The mate that goes missing at 3am to be found at the door of their ex? That could have been him, it could have been anyone. Late Night Lost Love takes that journey from the deaf denial of a break-up (“I don’t want to know what you do when it gets dark”) to the dubious finality of claiming to let go, at last (“I am giving you up, my late night lost love”).

Potter says: “I go deep as a songwriter; they need to mean something to me and ‘Late Night Lost Love’ is a story that will mean a lot to others, about fixation, heartbreak and resolution. It’s about the routine of pretending that you’re fine all week after a break-up, occupied by work and then weekend comes and it’s all out of the window. You can’t play it cool anymore.”

Unashamedly addressing their own ambitions with giant steps, Paris Youth Foundation continue to build on the dream foundations of their first ever shows being the Leeds and Reading Festivals, by heading into their local ‘hit factory’ Parr Street Studios, Liverpool.  Working with Blossoms and Courteeners producer, Rich Turvey, Late Night Lost Love hints without subtlety at a growing arsenal of songs set to compliment and compete with those illustrious, crowd-pleasing contemporaries.

Assembled of Potter with Tom Morris Jones and Jamie Hives on guitars, drummer, Nathan Price and Paul Bates picking up bass guitar, the band formed in Liverpool in 2016 and scored near immediate BBC Radio One playlisting. Confidently playing into the hype surrounding their emergence, Paris Youth Foundation have since enjoyed packed UK tours, both as headliners and in support of bands including The Magic Gang, earning themselves a strong and growing following.

The band’s name comes from graffiti spotted in a Metro Station in the French capital, remembered by Potter from a childhood visit and decided, spur of the moment, for the release of the band’s breakthrough debut, If You Wanna.

Four years after the release of his latest EP Last Glow, Kartell presents his new single “All in”, in collaboration with London-based rapper Che Lingo out on Roche Musique.

This brand new track is an invitation to a journey into a blazing sunset. After several years in the studio distilling soul and house influences, the French producer comes back with a solar track, between hip-hop, house and funk.

“All in” lays the foundations of a whole new project built on this exact balance, between soul and timelessness.

ANGIE McMAHON ANNOUNCES ONLINE SOLO PIANO CONCERT – WEDNESDAY 29 JULY

by the partae July 15, 2020
written by the partae

Tickets On Sale Now

Tomorrow Angie McMahon was due to perform with her band at Latitude Festival in the UK.

This month Angie would have just kicked off her first headline band shows across the UK and Europe before spending some time in Ireland to write and explore. When the trip was cancelled in early March, Angie rallied to collect funds for a local charity Support Act, raising a target of $50,000 to go towards music workers in need of financial support.

In a search for a sense of connectedness amongst her band and team, as well as creating new work, Angie collaborated with local creatives to film and record An Online Solo Piano Concert. The online piano concert was filmed at The Perch Recording Studio, Castlemaine and recorded and mixed by Angie’s touring sound engineer, Jono Steer. The studio, based in regional Victoria, has been adapted in a way that allows for a solo artist to record in an isolated setting that abides by social distancing rules.

The videos were filmed by Angie’s manager Charlotte Abroms, edited by Angie’s regular editor, Lewis Parsons, a freelance editor based in Toronto, Canada. After the filming took place, Angie then recorded additional instrumentation for the tracks with the idea to officially release Piano Salt as an EP; a collection of reimagined piano versions of Angie’s original songs and some of her favourite covers. The tracks were mixed by Angie’s bass player and producer Alex O’Gorman and mastered by Adam Dempsey.

Angie and her team have felt connected, creative and collaborative working on the concert during the lockdown period. The concert is 35 minutes long, featuring Angie performing stripped back, reimagined piano versions of her original songs, a new song and a cover of one of her favourite songs. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster today.

“Practising the piano and recording something in isolation felt like the only thing I wanted to do when we were locked down, so it was really fun to turn this into a concert that will hopefully feel like an intimate live music experience while we can’t go visit our much loved venues. I got to reimagine songs off my record, and I currently prefer some of the piano versions honestly, so I hope people like them.”
– Angie McMahon

The concert will be housed at a newly launched website called Kind Face Creative, a home for music and creativity during the pandemic and beyond. There are multiple ticket tiers which cater to various stages of lockdown around the world, allowing for fans to watch at home alone, with a group of people and for venues to screen to an audience.

A portion of the concert’s proceeds will be donated to Clothing The Gap’s
‘Free the Flag Campaign’, in a bid to fight to free the Aboriginal flag from its current licensing and see Aboriginal people have equal rights and access to their flag.

“Free The Flag is one of the Indigenous movements that I want to throw support behind as an artist living and working on this land, where Indigenous communities are always having to fight for their rights. I love repping their merch and having conversations about how we can show support and keep showing up, and I hope our contribution helps bring light to that. It’s just doing something small, instead of doing nothing. I think it’s important for artists to commit their voices and profits to the issues in the world around us!” – Angie McMahon

Angie McMahon – An Online Solo Piano Concert

Tickets on sale now via www.angiemcmahon.com

The Piano Salt EP is due for release in early October via AWAL and Dualtone (North America).

Where are you currently based and where are you from? We are both from and based in Southwest Sydney, Campbelltown 2560. How did you’s first start playing music and rapping? Growing up our oldest brother Rodz was always playing rap and hip hop, He was always in tune with the scene back then and even had all the latest hard copy CD’s and albums so of course being the little brothers we looked up to him and wanted to be like him in every way. In doing this we both found our passion in rap and rapping. Our older brother even helped us write rhymes when we were little and bought us our very first microphone to record tracks. How does your background and where you are from play a role in your music? We are both full Samoan so being samoan we were raised with a strong musical background from singing hymns in church to playing the guitar and singing and rapping at drink ups. Being from Campbelltown we were also influenced from our area and surroundings, Campbelltown being a part of Sydney that is well away from the city with half of our area being housing commission and all of it being very multicultural. Growing up in these types of areas there is a big hip hop and rap culture and influence and being from there is a big part of our artist identity. What's been happening recently? Just the usual working at our jobs and also working on our music, We recently signed with Biordi Music so from there it’s just been full blast with our music. We’ve been trying to perfect our art as much as we can and record as much quality tracks as we can so the studio has been like our 2nd workplace. Also a lot of strategising and organising with our team at Biordi music, a lot of things to look forward to from all of us. Your new single 'The Top' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting for this track? As soon as we heard the beat we just vibed out and put our own twist on it. It’s different to what we normally do so we just wanted to still keep our style and flows on it and in the end it all worked out and it’s a banger. How did you go about writing The Top? We actually wrote this track in the studio our manager Lowkee came in with a beat and said there’s this beat that we have to jump on and as soon as it played we were both feeling it. So we wrote the track then and there and recorded it in the same session. Where and when did you record/produce and who with? We recorded it at red stage studio with DJ Sefru and it was Mixed by Mixtri and mastered by Chunkyluv, So a big shoutout to all these guys. Also the producer for this track is relyt who is from the UK. What did you find most challenging and rewarding through out the creation of The Top? The most challenging thing would probably be not knowing how the Australian audience will take it, as there’s not much tracks like this in our scene. The most rewarding thing was probably just putting the track out there. Before this we had a bit of a break from making music so putting this track out as our first one back was really rewarding for us. What do you like to do away from music? (Pistol) VIP lounge and sinking a pint at the local. (Enzo) away from music, spending quality time with my son & my partner is what’s important to me. Who are you listening to at the moment? (Pistol) I listen to a lot of old school like Dre, Big, 50, Lil wayne and also listen to some of the current UK artist like Dutchaveli, Dave, Tion Wayne, Jhus, But mostly I’m listening to instrumentals and beats that I can rap on and also the tracks I’ve made. (Enzo) lately I’ve been listening to a lot of uk/aus rap artists but always crank meek mill & b.i.g those 2 are my go to. What's planned for the remainder of 2020? More banger singles and an EP  Favourite food and place to hangout? (Pistol) my favourite food would have to be a mad seafood platter, Lobster, oysters, kina and all that stuff ay and also any Asian food would have to be my favourite. My go to hangout spot would probably just have to be Any VIP lounge or Dragons Den. IYKYK (Enzo)  favourite food has to be seafood oysters, muscles, prawns, etc . Don’t have a favourite place to hang out as long as the company’s good.

Join us (online) tonight, Wednesday July 15th as we live stream Davey Lane, direct from the Cherry stage! We’re delivering sensational performances every week whilst the COVID battle continues, beamed out from the live music capital of the world…

With a now two decades on lead guitar for You Am I along with fronting neo-mod rockers The Pictures, Davey Lane should need no introduction. Outside of these vital contributions, he remains an in-demand mercenary for local and international greats the like of Crowded House, Jimmy Barnes, Todd Rundgren, Vika & Linda Bull, Robyn Hitchcock, The Saints and one off supergroups such as The Wrights. Collaborative efforts that assist in the development of his craft, Davey continues to display a knack for true pop sensibilities, big choruses and a surreal turn of phrase.

Taking time out from the studio finalising 3rd LP “Don’t Bank Your Heart On It”, this performance is not to be missed!

WIDOWSPEAK Share new single ‘Plum’ New album Plum out August 28

Past praise for Widowspeak

“Widowspeak fuses lightness and darkness like few others.” – NPR

“Romances, lives, cities, worlds — Widowspeak’s songs contemplate their erosion with a dazed acceptance and music that keeps opening up new spaces.” – New York Times

“Every Widowspeak record is exceptionally intimate.” – AV Club

“Widowspeak take bits and pieces of rock, folk, and country history to make a pop Americana sound that feels antique.” – Pitchfork

“Optimistic-feeling swirl of twangy, textured guitars and dreamy-as-hell vocals” – The FADER

“Rich and atmospheric…speaking to the restlessness of human existence”  – KEXP

“Widowspeak take the best parts of folk and shoegaze and twist them together” – Stereogum

Today Widowspeak share the title track from their upcoming album Plum, to be released August 28 via Captured Tracks / Remote Control. On ‘Plum‘, the duo – singer-songwriter Molly Hamilton and guitarist Robert Earl Thomas – reflect on the Japanese philosophy, Wabi-Sabi, that celebrates the way things are rather than how they should be. As the seemingly perfect fruit begins to rot throughout the video, Hamilton comes to the sanguine recognition that nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect as she sings “no one is old, nothing is young.”

Molly Hamilton on ‘Plum‘: “I wrote “Plum” about wanting to be more comfortable and casual with thoughts I tend to avoid.  Especially when I’m feeling very out-of-step with the world, there’s no use in being nostalgic for “the end of an era” or being afraid of what could happen. But, avoiding the present is kind of my default. I’m trying to be more aware that everyone is on its own trajectory, in its own time, slowly becoming something or becoming nothing.”

This follows the release of the album’s first two singles ‘Breadwinner,’ a track “as spare and breathy and beautiful as anything they’ve released” (Stereogum), and ‘Money‘ that “features hypnotically repeating riffs, shimmering guitars” (Paste). Watch the duo perform both singles plus fan favorites on Relix’s “Remote Sessions” here.

On Plum, Widowspeak continue to expand on the shared visions they’ve explored across five albums, delving deeper into what was always there: dusty guitars, ear-worm melodies, warm expansive arrangements.  In the decade since forming they’ve garnered praise from top outlets, with The New York Times saying “…their music keeps opening up new spaces” and NPR noting the duo’s ability to “fuse lightness and darkness like few others.” Recorded over a handful of weekends last winter by Sam Evian (Cass McCombs, Kazu Makino, Hannah Cohen) at his Flying Cloud studio in the Catskills, and mixed by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, Perfume Genius), Plum was finished up just as the start of spring signaled something, everything was changing. With its release, Widowspeak have brought something into the world that seems to know its own worth, even as it wonders aloud about what is to come.

Katy Perry joins Tomorrowland Around the World, the digital festival, line-up

July 14, 2020 – Global pop superstar Katy Perry will perform a spectacular and unprecedented show at Tomorrowland Around the World, the digital festival. One of the best-selling musical artists of all time, Katy will dazzle the People of Tomorrow across the globe in an eye-popping visual spectacle full of special effects, delivering a breath-taking show of her greatest hits which shaped 21st century pop music as well as brand new music from her fifth album, “Smile,” which is set to be released on August 14.

Tomorrowland Around the World brings together more than 60 of the planet’s most prominent artists in electronic dance music on 8 different stages, and as Tomorrowland now teams up with Katy Perry, the worlds of electronic dance music and pop will collide in one of the most spectacular ways possible. The global chart-dominating American singer has previously worked together on songs with world class DJs and producers Zedd and Calvin Harris, while her iconic tracks (“I Kissed A Girl,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “Roar,” “Dark Horse”, and more) have been remixed by some of dance music’s top producers, including Tiësto, Oliver Heldens, R3HAB, Kaskade, Tommie Sunshine, Benny Bennassi, and many more.

In her 12 years with Capitol, Katy has racked up a cumulative 40 billion streams alongside worldwide sales of over 45 million adjusted albums and 135 million tracks. She was the first to reach 100 million followers on Twitter. Katy’s 2015 Super Bowl performance is the highest-rated in the event’s history. Katy was the first female artist to have four videos surpass a billion views each. Her videos for “Firework” and “Last Friday Night” have over one billion views, while “Dark Horse” has surpassed the two billion mark. “Roar” now has over three billion views.

Katy Perry: “I’ve always wanted to be a part of the fun of Tomorrowland, and have been following the amazing innovation, technology, and invention that this festival has always been about for a long time. I’m so glad to be a part of this version, and I hope my set makes you smile.”

Katy Perry jumped on a video call earlier today with the world-famous Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix to announce her performance at the digital festival to the world. Watch HERE.

Yesterday it was announced, Tijs Verwest, better known as Tiësto, will perform for the first time ever as VER:WESTat Tomorrowland Around the World. Unveiling his new melodic house music project to the world at the iconic Freedom Stage during Tomorrowland’sdigital festival.

“I would describe VER:WEST as melodic house music. It’s a lot deeper and more chill and a verydifferentenergy than Tiësto. I got this opportunity from Tomorrowland to express a different side of me which I’ve never donebefore. I know they are going to put amazing visuals around it and make it look really different and cool. Expect theunexpected, it’s going to look amazing!” –says VER:WEST.

Factory People announce ‘Away To’ – a new social distancing party series and live stream across epic locations in the Middle East

A global pandemic and strict lockdown regulations. The first few months of 2020 left clubs and artists alike facing an unprecedented challenge. One initiative, titled “Away To”, has challenged the status quo by hosting a new series of socially distant parties. “Away To” makes it a point to adhere to safety measures while giving party goers and online surfers a breath of fresh air, a stream to look forward to and a party to attend!
The initiative saw two emerging content platforms partner up to pioneer a new form of partying that’s more suited for the times. The first is Vuse, a brand determined to support the creative scene of the region. So much so that they’ve created their own platform, Creative State, dedicated to encouraging artists to stay active despite difficult circumstances.
The second is Late Knights, a content platform by Factory People – that documents alternative local and international artists, giving a real look into the music scene in the Middle East through documentaries, features and concerts.
Over the course of 3 months, the platform transformed from hosting regional & international DJs broadcasting live sets from their home to exceptionally produced socially distant parties.
The strategic shift saw both platforms dedicate their efforts to high quality production, enhanced physical and visual experiences, and of course, beautiful venues as the cherry on top. With their now-household series “Away to” – Late Knights and Creative State by Vuse was ready to take the world by storm.
Besides shedding light on young talent and introducing one of the first socially distanced dancefloors, each one of the “Away To” parties are set in different obscure, yet, magnificent locations. Every venue is a handpicked hidden gem where the DJ booth is at the heart, surrounded by eager ravers moving to its beat.
Travel from one scenic venue to another, from Beirut, Dubai to Egypt, passing by Berlin – catch “Away To”, live every Friday on the Vuse Middle East Facebook page and on www.lateknights.co.

BOY PABLO SHARES NEW SINGLE ‘HONEY’ AND B-SIDE ‘JD’S SONG’ DEBUT ALBUM WACHITO RICO OUT OCTOBER 23 VIA 777 MUSIC

PRAISE FOR BOY PABLO

“Boy Pablo make the kind of balmy daydream music that perfectly assuages the sting of a breakup, making it clear that their success is more than a viral fluke”
Pitchfork

“‘Everytime’ was good. Really bloody outstanding, in fact; so much so that it cut through the barrage of adverts and caught people’s attention“
NME

“You want to listen to his tunes, but also talk shit and make memes with him”
i-D

“In just over a year gone from one-hit-wonders to Norwegian Grammy winning, Coachella-playing champs”
Clash

Norwegian bedroom pop sensation Boy Pablo today shares his latest double single, ‘honey / jd’s song’, the second release from his debut studio album Wachito Rico, out October 23 via 777 Records. Listen HERE.

Following on from lead single, ‘hey girl / i just wanna go home’, ‘honey’ puts Pablo’s artistic development since the breakout success of his viral 2017 single ‘Everytime’ on full display, showing off an increasing confidence in the studio away from the lo-fi bedroom recordings of his youth. Fusing lush production with jangly, sun-kissed 60s melodies, subtle notes of MPB and bossa nova that nod to Pablo’s Latin-American background and a dreamy chorus, ‘honey’ is Boy Pablo’s most psychedelic-leaning track to date. But to read that whimsy as uncomplicated would be mistaken.

As Pablo explains, “The track is about how a relationship moves between the bad and the good times, but even through the bad times the mutual love you’ve built and the fascination you have for each other never fades away, and you choose to stick together through it all.”

Like previous singles, ‘honey’ and ‘jd’s song’ reintroduce Boy Pablo as having simultaneously grown up and into his sound. With each new release from his forthcoming debut LP, the Norweigian songwriter is also sharply articulating what makes his sound so distinct amongst today’s indie-pop landscape. Seemingly so carefree on the surface, his woozily romantic brand of music actually harbors carefully shaded emotional nuance and surprising depths of musical complexity beneath its facade, with a charismatic tongue-in-cheek personality that balances heartache with lightness, ennui with serenity.

The artistic project of 21 year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Muñoz, the debut LP from Boy Pablo takes its title from a Chilean expression that translates to fondness for a “handsome boy”, a hybrid conceptual and autobiographical record, tracing the ebbs and flows of the titular character’s love story while threading this narrative through with Pablo’s own experiences as a young person, blurring the identities of Wachito Rico and the real life Nicolas Muñoz into one curious, indistinguishable whole. Having first introduced audiences to the character of Wachito Rico and his love life in ‘hey girl’ and ‘i just wanna go home’, Pablo is now beginning to fill out the picture of the hero of his forthcoming full-length with ‘honey’ and ‘jd’s song’.

‘honey‘ / ‘jd’s song‘ by Boy Pablo is out now via 777 Music,

CHARLIE GRADON IMMERSES IN NATURE DURING LOCKDOWN WITH THE HAZY CLIP FOR ‘BLURRY ONES’ + ANNOUNCES LAUNCH SHOW AT THE LANSDOWNE

by the partae July 14, 2020
written by the partae

“Charlie knows how to make a compelling track AND how to wring the last drops of emotion out of it.” – Dave Ruby Howe
“Charlie Gradon’s talent is seemingly uncontainable.” – Life Without Andy

Sydney melancholic storyteller Charlie Gradon revels in nature in the video accompaniment to his latest release ‘Blurry Ones”. He’s also announced his first real life show post-Covid lockdown on August 1st at The Lansdowne Hotel.

The product of an unexpected family collaboration the video showcases Gradon sampling nature with his vintage tape recorder. On the cusp of lockdown and visiting cousins from overseas, the idea snowballed and was filmed in one shoot that afternoon. “It was quite eerie as lockdown was just about to kick in so there was no one around.” He continues “I think the clip serves as nostalgia of a simpler time where we could go outside and enjoy the simple things.”

Since its release ‘Blurry Ones’ has been welcomed by radio with rotation on Double J and FBi Radio. From his forthcoming sophomore EP, the track was written when Gradon bought his wife a vintage camera which took, as he describes, “basically useless blurry photographs”. Born in his bedroom studio, the track sounds just like the blurry images Gradon sings of – nostalgic and reflective indie-rock.

Earlier this year Gradon resurfaced with the mellow single ‘Grieving’ which found a home on radio, reaching #3 on the AMRAP Metro Radio Charts along with adds on FBi Radio, 2SER and EDGE.

The products of a challenging period of change, both singles offer a glimpse of Gradon’s introspective upcoming sophomore EP – out later this year – which the talented multi-instrumentalist wrote and performed on his own.

This omnibus follows on from 2018’s ‘Self Doubt’ which intrigued audiences and garnered on-air support from Double J and FBi Radio and had him named in The Music Writer’s Poll for ‘Song of the Year’. Echoing this praise, he was recently a finalist in Happy Mag’s Needle in the Hay competition out of 2000 entries, and named in Life Without Andy’s Next Big Things for 2020.

With the world in an extended period of reflection Charlie Gradon is here with the perfect soundtrack.
