SUPPORT FOR 'ONE TIME' "The Melbourne-based musician's debut single is a wind-swept R&B moment that feels like the future of Australian music." - Pilerats (AUS) Melbourne-based R&B artist Antoine has just unveiled his infectious and hypnotic debut single ‘One Time’ – produced and mixed by ServidSounds and mastered by Mix Master Mike. As tranquil soundscapes lay an ambient setting, steadfast and minimalist percussion play out amid swirling synths, while the commanding cadences of Antoine float fluently above. As the track effortlessly unfolds into its compelling chorus, ‘One Time’ rounds off with a bridge that tips the hat to staple influences Party Next Door, Drake and Lil Bow Wow. Antoine describes the motivation behind ‘One Time’: “My producer (ServidSounds) sent this beat through to me waaay way back. We were getting vibes instantly and I laid down the first verse and chorus real quick, there was definitely something special about it. But, typically, so many tracks got in the way and it took a long time to finish up the rest. He always loved it and for a while I was pretty so-so, but his persistence got me and thank god he was, because it’s now ended up becoming the first release of this project. It’s reminiscent of the music I grew up listening to with a nice modern touch and just flows real smooth. This is them island vibes my family and friends love. We love it cause it’s something that can bump in the clubs at night, at BBQ with the fams on some summertime vibes, on a road trip with friends, jamming out and singing along. It’s just a simple but versatile, fun, feel good track for every positive mood!” Antoine comes from a family of musicians, who all originate from Mauritius, East Africa and Italy. His Dad is a multi-instrumentalist who still plays shows to this day and his mother was also a back-up R&B vocalist in the 80’s. Both parents have been huge influences, making it difficult for him to have passion elsewhere. Wearing his influences on his sleeves, Antoine is on a mission to bring some old school R&B back to life. In the coming weeks Antoine will reveal an accompanying music video for ‘One Time’, partnering up with Reebok and under creative direction from the teams behind Tones & I, Vera Blue & George Alice. ‘One Time’ is available worldwide now FOLLOW ANTOINE FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | SOUNDCLOUD | SPOTIFY | APPLE MUSIC

FROM EXILE Philadelphia-based punk band, The Menzingers will release From Exile, a reimagined stripped down version of their 2019 release Hello Exile. From Exile was recorded from the band’s respective homes while in isolation during COVID-19 stay at home orders. The album will be released digitally on September 25 and on vinyl November 13. Fans can pre-order the vinyl now via the band’s webstore, here.   Today, the band share “Strawberry Mansion” and “High School Friend” from the forthcoming release.   LISTEN TO “STRAWBERRY MANSION” & “HIGH SCHOOL FRIEND” NOW   The Menzingers were on tour in Australia when the world seemed to abruptly stop due to COVID-19, forcing the band to cut their tour short and make their way back to Philadelphia. “The live music industry vanished before our eyes, and just like that we were out of work like tens of millions of others,” notes singer/guitarists Greg Barnett. “As the weeks progressed the upcoming tours got rescheduled, then rescheduled again, then effectively cancelled. There were times when it all felt fatal. There’s no guide book on how to navigate being a working musician during a global pandemic, so we were left to make it up as we went along. We wanted to document and create in the moment, and though we couldn’t be in the same room together due to social distancing lockdowns, we got creative.”   Over the next few months, the band would re-record Hello Exile from their separate locations. “We would track the songs from our own home studios, share the files via dropbox, and pray it all made sense when pieced back together. Initially, we planned for the album to be similar to our acoustic demo collection ‘On The Possible Past,’ but we quickly found out that this batch of songs benefited from more detailed arrangements,” adds Barnett. “We rewrote, and changed keys and melodies. We blended analog and digital instruments in ways we never had before. We dug through old lyric notebooks and added additional verses. We got our dear friend Kayleigh Goldsworthy to play violin on two songs. No idea was off limits. Hell, I even convinced the band to let me play harmonica on a song (no small feat!). The recording process ran from mid-March till June, and upon completion we sent it over to our dear friend and close collaborator Will Yip to mix and master.” Pre-Order From Exile (includes limited edition coloured vinyl)

WIDOWSPEAK Share new single ‘Even True Love’ New album Plum out August 28

by the partae August 6, 2020

Past praise for Widowspeak

“Widowspeak fuses lightness and darkness like few others.” – NPR

“Romances, lives, cities, worlds — Widowspeak’s songs contemplate their erosion with a dazed acceptance and music that keeps opening up new spaces.” – New York Times

“Every Widowspeak record is exceptionally intimate.” – AV Club

“Widowspeak take bits and pieces of rock, folk, and country history to make a pop Americana sound that feels antique.” – Pitchfork

“Optimistic-feeling swirl of twangy, textured guitars and dreamy-as-hell vocals” – The FADER

“Rich and atmospheric…speaking to the restlessness of human existence”  – KEXP

“Widowspeak take the best parts of folk and shoegaze and twist them together” – Stereogum

Today Widowspeak share the fourth single, ‘Even True Love,’ from their upcoming album Plum, to be released August 28 via Captured Tracks / Remote Control. On ‘Even True Love‘, the duo – singer-songwriter Molly Hamilton and guitarist Robert Earl Thomas – acknowledge the inevitable loss of those closest to us: “In the deepest wells, in the shallow sick/I can see you shaking in the great unknown/Will you learn to live with what you chose?/Even true love, you can’t take it with you”.

Molly Hamilton on ‘Even True Love‘: “Prior to writing ‘Even True Love’, I’d been sitting with some existential dread for the last year or so; honestly, sort of overwhelmed by the recognition that life is absurd and finite. The song itself is upbeat, kind of cruising. I was thinking about those youth-glorifying “yolo” type songs and that big mood, but also feeling like there’s so much more to it than that. Maybe because they only live once, humans tend to want to possess things: objects, success, money, experiences, people. True Love. Amassing the most and best of whatever while you can. But that never really landed with me; I think this one is more about being present with the unknown, letting things go a little more, trying not to hold on too tight.”

This follows the release of the album’s first three singles ‘Breadwinner,’ a track “as spare and breathy and beautiful as anything they’ve released” (Stereogum), ‘Money‘ that “features hypnotically repeating riffs, shimmering guitars” (Paste), and ‘Plum‘ featured in The Line Of Best Fit’s “Best New Music” playlist. Watch the duo perform the singles plus fan favorites via a Relix ‘Remote Session‘ here.

On Plum, Widowspeak continue to expand on the shared visions they’ve explored across five albums, delving deeper into what was always there: dusty guitars, ear-worm melodies, warm expansive arrangements.  In the decade since forming they’ve garnered praise from top outlets, with The New York Times saying “…their music keeps opening up new spaces” and NPR noting the duo’s ability to “fuse lightness and darkness like few others.”  Recorded over a handful of weekends last winter by Sam Evian (Cass McCombs, Kazu Makino, Hannah Cohen) at his Flying Cloud studio in the Catskills, and mixed by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, Perfume Genius), Plum was finished up just as the start of spring signaled something, everything was changing. With its release, Widowspeak have brought something into the world that seems to know its own worth, even as it wonders aloud about what is to come.

MATHAME – ‘NEVER GIVE UP’ (ZHU REMIX)
B1 RECORDINGS / MINISTRY OF SOUND

Italian brothers Mathame release the next remix for their latest single, ‘Never Give Up’. Originally released in March, ‘Never Give Up’ has received an array of industry support, including being awarded ‘The Essential New Tune’ accolade by BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong. After releasing a string of new remixes for the track from Vril, Lost Frequencies, Diplo and Adriatique, Mathame today unveil the final remix from electronic live artist and vocalist, ZHU. Arriving today via ‘B1 Recordings / Ministry Of Sound’, ‘Never Give Up’ (ZHU Remix) is now available to stream and purchase.

One of electronic music’s mysterious characters, ZHU is an artist who has gained international recognition across each project that he touches. First arriving in 2014 with his Grammy-nominated hit, ‘Faded’, over recent years ZHU has collaborated with a range of diverse artists from different musical fields including, Tame Impala, Majid Jordan, Skrillex, DJ Snake, Sofi Tukker and more. Recently, he released ‘Came For The Low’, with the music video featuring the 2020 United States presidential candidate Andrew Yang, along with a new collaborative track titled ‘Desire’ with Bob Moses. Outside of the studio, ZHU has graced the stages of many a festival, with his live performances famed from Ultra to Coachella and has also broadcasted a highly-praised live stream at Japan’s Iwatake in Nagano with Cercle. A remarkably versatile artist who can produce in varying creative directions, ZHU builds upon the emotive vocals of Mathame’s ‘Never Give Up, reworking the track into an anthemic and melodic production.

Over recent years, electronic duo Mathame have established themselves as one of underground music’s most promising rising acts. Released in March via ‘B1 Recordings / Ministry Of Sound’, ‘Never Give Up’ continues to receive an ever-growing stream of support, already fostered from industry leaders including BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong who awarded their earlier release on Tale Of Us’ ‘Afterlife’,‘For Every Forever’ their first ‘Essential New Tune’.

“Musically, ‘Never Give Up’ has many influences, from techno to cinematic soundtracks and sound design. We try to synthesise all our influences into one track that can be like a manifesto of our sound, dynamic, wider, handcrafted, dreaming, with a simple and strong message. A message to the earth, like a flag that calls everyone to not ever give up. The track arrives at the time of a global crisis where it feels like everything is out of our hands and we have lost control. Now more than ever, the planet earth and humanity need this message, every day and every night.” – Mathame

Forming in 2013, brothers Amedeo and Matteo Giovanelli have progressively become an integral part of the underground electronic scene, first releasing on Vaal’s ‘Bastaard’ label in 2015. Followed up with a further EP on Tiefschwarz’s revered ‘Souvenir’ in 2017, their activity arguably culminated at its peak in a release for Tale Of Us’ ‘Afterlife’ label in 2018, featuring tracks ‘Nothing Around Us’ and ‘Fade Into You’.

2019 proved to be a breakthrough year for the duo, with an international touring schedule spanning Stockholm, Abu Dhabi, Milan, Istanbul and more, highlighted by a performance for French video platform Cercle, filmed at the summit of Mexico City’s Reforma 180 Heliport. With the Cercle stream currently amassing over 2 million views, Mathame have also worked with fellow Italian duo and close friends, Tale Of Us. The last two years have seen Mathame become residents for their ‘Afterlife’ event series, performing at showcases from Mexico to Ibiza.

Bridging the gap between the underground and mainstream, Mathame have continued to showcase their prowess as producers, remixing for the Grammy-nominated live electronic act RÜFÜS DU SOL, along with providing an anthemic rework of MEDUZA’s ‘Lose Control’.

Continuing their unstoppable momentum across the new decade, Mathame recently launched their new multiplatform cinematic project, PHOENIX. The interdisciplinary brothers have innovated PHOENIX as an online stage and interactive space for both artists and music lovers. Using the latest 3D real-time technologies, PHOENIX has hundreds of different settings where DJ’s and musicians can perform in outlandish scenarios and backgrounds. The groundbreaking project took two months to develop and, in future, will also be a web community akin to the computer game and virtual universe, ‘Second Life’, where users can meet with their own avatar.

Ofenbach’s hit-in-making ‘Head Shoulders Knees & Toes’ gets blissful video treatment

Ofenbach’s latest collaboration with Quarterhead ‘Head Shoulders Knees & Toes’ is heating up with more than 25 million streams since its recent release. With radio play globally, a hit in France and rapidly climbing the charts in Germany and about to break the European Airplay Top 50, a mesmerising video drops today.

The energetic and buoyant music video fits perfectly with the slap bass sound of the track. The vintage-style video delivers the ultimate summer vibes – much like the track – with many dance moves to match the infectious song lyrics. After amassing more than 5 million streams on their lyric video, they offer a playful, high energy video that beautifully compliments the hit-in-making single. Watch it, here.

“Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” has broken the Global Shazam Top 100. In France the single has just entered the Airplay Top 30 and Single Top 40. In Germany the single is Top 5 on iTunes, Top 30 on Shazam and is on its way to break the Top 100 on Spotify. With steady growth in the rest of Europe, “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” is set to become one of the singles of the summer.

At just 24, Ofenbach have experienced massive success, including their breakthrough single “Be Mine” which topped the world’s charts with more than 300 million streams and their follow-up single “Katchi” which charted at #1 on the Shazam Dance Worldwide charts for 14 consecutive weeks. Amongst the Vanity Fair 50 most influential French artist in the world, certified 10 times Gold and 16 times Platinum, they have been extensively touring across Europe, the United States and Asia. Since the COVID-19 lockdown, they’ve been busy writing and producing new music in the studio. ‘Head Shoulders Knees & Toes’ comes just after their ‘Physical’ remix for Dua Lipa, and there is plenty more in store.

HELLO FOREVER Sign to Rough Trade Records Debut album Whatever It Is to released physically on Friday 2 October Share new single & video ‘Everything Is So Hard’

Rough Trade Records & Remote Control Records are excited to announce they will be releasing the debut album by Californian group Hello Forever, with two new tracks, on October 2nd, 2020. Check out the video for new track ‘Everything Is So Hard’ via the image below.

Based in Topanga, California, on a piece of land once used by the infamous Sandstone Retreat and free-love nudist commune, the art-pop collective Hello Forever are led by the eccentric, magnetic figure of Samuel Joseph. They live together, in this pastoral setting high above the Pacific Ocean – not far from where Neil Young recorded After the Gold Rush or Captain Beefheart laid down the tracks for Trout Mask Replica, the group forever expanding and contracting, with members coming and going as they please. However, the group adheres to a stringent five day a week rehearsal schedule, they fuse elements of the 60s West Coast sound with a DIY approach to music and creativity which has spawned their remarkable debut album, the aptly titled Whatever It Is. Joseph and company have created a contemporary throwback to a vibrant era with a set of songs that establish the collective’s exquisite harmonies and colourful instrumentation.

Hello Forever’s music is inextricable with the lifestyle and spiritual goals of its participants, a revolving membership that also includes, at various times, collaborators drummer/co-founder Andy Jimenez, Molly Pease, Jaron Crespi, Joey Briggs, Anand Darsie and Lina Kay. Walk into their communal compound and one of the first things one sees is a copy of the late Baba Ram Dass’ counter-culture classic, Be Here Now, perhaps the best description of the collective’s philosophy of life, creativity, art and music.

Sam explains a little about new single ‘Everything Is So Hard’, “It’s difficult to know what to say about this song. It changed how we think about what we can play, and it brought us closer together — because it came from a very raw place and deep suffering. A lot of our songs emerge through a narrow aperture of a very specific experience that drags up a feeling with broad roots — so everything is so hard kinda revealed itself in a moment when I was in a relationship that wasn’t working, but It hurt too much to leave. You know when you want to stay, even though the sadness you feel starts to taint even the good moments? Getting to the end of it feels like a death. I fear death. It kills me sometimes — the dread of the unknown can suck the life out of the beautiful moments that I love so much as to cause me to fear their ending in the first place. It’s a paradox, loving life, fearing death — my life can sometimes be framed by that suffering despite my best intentions. But still I worship it. I cling to it. Somewhere deep in me loves it all through the fog of fear and pain and grief and cruelty and desperation. In the rare spectacular moments, I get caught up, and I go through the fog and get to really get a glimpse of life, and it’s a blessing. It brings me home and sets me off. But it can’t erase the suffering.”

As Melbourne heads into stage 4 lock downs this week, Victorians can rest assured their Saturday nights will still be full of entertainment via the small team at Delivered Live – with another great lineup of music and comedy beamed out of our custom built studio and into your home.
This week sees the incredible dance pop duo The Merindas opening the show, followed by a collaboration set between two of Australia’s finest hip hop wordsmiths, N’fa and Mantra. Rounding out the night of music will be award winning pop, folk and opera singer (not to mention Eurovision finalist) Kate Miller-Heidke.

Delivered, Live made its debut in April this year as a response to COVID 19 forcing the world into lockdown. The show is made available to watch free on YouTube so as to be accessible to any who choose to watch it. However, for those that can afford it, tickets are available for purchase for a range of price points, starting from as little as $20 – less than you’d pay to see most of these acts in non-pandemic times.
The revenue from these tickets then goes back to the artists and the crew creating the show, plus a live music venue and crew member of each acts’ choice.

Bringing the laughs will be up and coming comedian Dilruk Jayasinha, and our regular recap on ‘the week that was’ with Sami Shah.

PRAISE FOR SINGLES ‘SPIT YOU OUT’ AND ‘TRIALS’

“‘Spit You Out’ spends its verses spinning on tip-toes through hazy synth notes, only to kick it out on a buzzing chorus of squealing guitar lines that could be a My Bloody Valentine sample.” – Consequence of Sound

“Remarkably atmospheric.” – Variety

“A witchy dream-pop track that channels the creepiness of an abandoned opera house” – Entertainment Weekly

“…a hard-hitting effervescent drum beat, and an array of synth sounds that split the difference between Nine Inch Nails and My Bloody Valentine. Yet it feels much lighter and airier than those references imply.” – Stereogum

“…radical reimagining of the band’s usual sound, style and dynamic.” – HYPEBEAST

“Song is oddly fitting for the present moment” – Paste

Best Songs of the Week – Under The Radar

“Has one foot in ’60s girl groups and the other in more modern pop” – BrooklynVegan

“‘Spit You Out’ is a solid and satisfying song about growing and moving on from past mistakes.” – EUPHORIA

Today Cults, aka multi-instrumentalist/singer Madeline Follin and multi-instrumentalist Brian Oblivion, share their third single ‘No Risk’ off their fourth studio album Host out September 18 via Sinderlyn. The peppy melody of ‘No Risk‘ is accompanied by a self assured sentiment that without taking risk, there is no reward. This follows the pulsating singles ‘Spit You Out‘ that Stereogum describes as “hard-hitting, effervescent” and Consequence of Sound compares to a “My Bloody Valentine sample” and ‘Trials‘ that Entertainment Weekly called “a witchy dream-pop track that channels the creepiness of an abandoned opera house” while Variety called it “remarkably atmospheric”.

Cults on ‘No Risk‘: Antithetical to the title, the song is all about the benefits of taking risks, and how difficult that can be as a woman when being constantly told in both transparent and subliminal ways that you’re “second best” or not worthy of the same voice. The song transforms the title from a place of complacency to a challenge to empower yourself.

Last Friday, Cults performed at Lollapalooza via YouTube. The band played all new material for the first time live, including ‘Spit You Out‘, ‘Trials‘, and soon to be released, ‘Like I Do‘. Watch their live set here.

Cults were deep into the process of recording Host when Follin let a secret slip. “In the past, I’d never brought my own music to the table because I was just too shy,” says Follin. “When Shane and I heard what Madeline had written, we couldn’t believe it,” says Oblivion. “The music just floored us.” What followed was a radical reimagining, both of the band’s sound and its dynamic, and the result is Cults’ utterly mesmerizing new album. Host was co-produced by Cults and Shane Stoneback, mixed by John Congleton, mastered by Heba Kadry, and features Loren Shane Humphrey (Last Shadow Puppets, Florence and the Machine, Guards) on drums. Written more collaboratively than ever before and recorded primarily with live instruments for the first time, the collection marks the start of a bold new chapter for the band, one fuelled by an ever-deepening trust and a boundless appetite for growth and experimentation. The songs here are deceptively charming, with lush, airy arrangements that belie their dark, weighty lyrics, and the production is rich and multifaceted to match, blending retro and futuristic palettes into a spellbinding swirl of high-def indie rock and lo-fi bedroom pop. As its title suggests, Host is an exploration of the sinister dynamics at play in a parasitic relationship, but rather than dwell in the discomfort, the record charts a cathartic journey towards freedom and self-reliance, revelling in the power that comes from standing your ground and declaring independence in the face of exploitation and manipulation.

Formed while Follin and Oblivion were still just students in college, Cults released ‘Go Outside‘. Both a commercial and critical smash, the track would go on to rack up more than 40 million streams on Spotify, land in soundtracks everywhere from Broad City to Gossip Girl, and help the band score a major label deal for their self-titled debut, released the following year on Columbia Records. Pitchfork called the album “catchy and sweet,” cutting “1960’s girl-pop…with synths, guitars, and softly integrated samples,” while the New Yorker lauded the band’s “agonizingly catchy vintage-pop”. The duo followed it up with the similarly celebrated ‘Static’ in 2013, and they returned in peak form four years later with ‘Offering‘, that Billboard described as a “luxury…(head)banger,” and AV Club praised their music “a magic carpet ride over hand-clap-heavy canyons of California pop”.  Over the years they’ve built up a devoted audience along the way through relentless headline touring and festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Coachella, Austin City Limits, and more.

Where are you currently based and what’s the music scene like there?

I’m currently based in Matsumoto, a town in Nagano, about 200km North West of Tokyo, Japan. The music scene here is small, but but the parties are somewhat similar to what you can find in many other places in Japan. Usually tucked away in a building that is hard to find, with a crew that plays an eclectic selection of whatever is going at that particular party. Many of the people here aren’t exclusive to one genre or crew. Cliques exist, but they are loose, and due to the relatively small size of our city, you often find the same people at various different events, regardless of genre or style. It’s a great little scene we have here.

How did you wind up there and how has it been starting fresh in a new country?

Long story short, I ended up moving here to be closer to my wife’s family.  Moving here for me was one of the hardest things i’ve ever had to endure. Culture shock is real, and the language barrier is just the beginning. Loads of little cultural nuances like how to act around certain people, and what to do when. Getting into the music scene here was the same as anywhere in terms of going to events and meeting the right people, but learning Japanese has certainly helped me to network a lot more easily.  My Japanese isn’t great, but it’s communicative on a basic level, so it gets me by.

How did you first start playing music and how did you evolve into electronic music?

I guess my journey into music isn’t too dissimilar to the way a lot of people got into it. Started piano when I was 7, then the trumpet when I was 9. I picked up a guitar in my teens, started jamming in a garage with mates and all that. I was in a punk band when i was younger. Our claim to fame was opening for Aussie punk-rock legends “Frenzal Rhomb”. That was a rad gig. Electronic music was always a love of mine though, ever since I heard some breaks back in high school. Artists like Sonic Animation and the Resin Dogs were at the start of my journey, but then i really got into trance after hearing an old Gatecrasher compilation – Global Sound System. A little later, I found progressive house, and that was the gateway too all the kinds of house music (and sometimes techno) that I’m into these days. I started producing sometime around 2004 when a friend of mine introduced me to FL Studio. Of course, I downloaded a cracked version and went from there. I only started taking it seriously around 2011 though, and didn’t release my first single until 2014. You can find it on Spotify if you search “musicbyhux”. I still dig the tunes, but thankfully, I’ve since changed my alias.

How would you describe your sound/the music that you play?

The music that I play sits somewhere between minimal house and progressive. My favourite music to play is driving progressive, but the people that I DJ to get right into that 909 High hat drive that comes with minimal house, so I find myself playing a lot of that during my sets, even though I like prog more. As far as my own productions, mostly deep, progressive house, with the exception of my latest tune, but more on that in a bit.

What’s been happening recently?

Recently, very little on the gigs front due to a certain pandemic that happens to be kind of a big deal, but also, i recently broke my leg pretty badly, so actually i’ve been laid up at home for the last 6 weeks or so. I’ve been limited to my bed and my living room, so i’ve been playing video games, and doing music related stuff in all my spare time (which happens to be most of my time atm) So yeah, I can’t walk, but i can’t complain too much, because it’s been nice to catch up on some stuff, including rest.

Your new track ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Great question. I know that i’ve been wanting to write a peak time tune for a while, but usually everything I write turns out deep, so this one came as a bit of a surprise to me. My inspiration came from all of my friends, family and supporters who have got me this far in my musical journey, hence the title. There are no such things as self-made people. We all stand on the shoulders of giants, and I really wanted to give something back, which is why anyone can pick up this tune for free from my Bandcamp page.

How did you go about writing/recording/producing/mastering the single?

All of it (bar mastering) was done on my laptop, using software, an Apogee duet, some headphones, and some old Behringers, which i used when the neighbours were out.

Where and when did you record?

For this track, most of it was midi-based using software synths. So no actual recording, and I did all of it from my own home. The whole process happened slowly, over the course of about 8 weeks. In the end, I put about 75 hours into it.

What programs/instruments did you use?

I use Logic pro X, and a whole stack of softsynths. My favourites are Spectrasonics’ Trilian, Uhe’s Hive, and one I discovered recently by Waves, called Codex. Apart from that, a lot of one-shot samples for the drums, claps, hats, percussion etc.

Where can we listen?

You can listen on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Google… all the major online streaming platforms, and of course Bandcamp, which I mentioned earlier.

What do you like to do away from music?

Of course I love to chill with family and/or friends, but apart from that, I really love all things to do with coffee. I was a barista in Australia for about 8 years before I came to Japan, and since I’ve been here, i’ve  taken up roasting. It’s a whole new challenge, but i love it, and I’ve been starting to roast some really tasty coffee.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Quivver, Ezequiel Arias, Matan Caspi, Deep Active Sound, Dave Pad, Somersault, Toman, Ben Rau, Dirty Culture…heaps of people!

What’s planned for the remainder of 2020?

First on my list is to walk again, second is to make more music. Gig-wise, who knows?! Of course I’d love to get out and about again, but nothing is certain at the moment, so we’ll wait and see.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

My favourite food is home-made curry. Can’t beat it. Favourite place to hang out is anywhere with the right people, although there is a whisky bar down town called Kadokko. It’s a very small bar, with room for about 8 people, but it has loads of delicious whisky, and it’s cheap, like the budgie! (10 points if you got that movie reference!)

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets return with blazing new single Mr. Prism, announce WA tour dates

As their first move for 2020, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have made another strong impact with the release of their new single, ‘Mr. Prism’. Bounding along with energy from the onset, ‘Mr. Prism’ is relentless in its approach – a fiery reminder of the type of band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have grown into over the last few years on the road.

Since the release of the band’s third studio album And Now For The Whatchamacallit, the Perth group spent the second half of 2019 on tour through the UK and Europe, before returning to Australia for a summer festival run. Taking advantage of loosening restrictions in WA, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are using the opportunity to get back to live performing, introducing their new chapter with a run of headline shows this September.

‘Mr. Prism’, full of chaotic builds and irresistible rhythms as it winds through its second half, is wild in its arrangement. The bulk of the songwriting took place at songwriter Jack McEwan’s home in WA, with drums being laid down at Perth’s Tone City Studios, before landing with Michael Jelinek and Brian Lucey. For McEwan, the song was born out of the feverish haze only illness and a crazy tour schedule can bring. “After our last tour of Europe I had a plethora of reasons to see a doctor. First, he thought I had tonsillitis, so prescribed me penicillin, which didn’t help at all. I did Falls Festival over New Year’s and barely got through – turns out I had pneumonia. I was pushing through on all sorts of meds until someone offered me the HMS Hunter.S alternative and I realised no matter how sick I’d ever be, I could never turn one down. Mr. Prism (my sickly fun-fuelled fiend of an alter-ego) was born.”
Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

2019 was a massive year for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets both at home in Australia and in the international market. A year of sold out shows across North America, UK, Australia and Europe, not to mention spots on lucrative festivals including Splendour in the Grass and Desert Daze, the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets was well received by thousands.

The release of And Now For The Whatchamacallit reaped praise from all corners with support from Triple J, BBC Radio 1, NPR and noted publications  including Q, Classic Rock and DIY have further cemented Psychedelic Porn Crumpets as a long lasting musical presence. With over 7 million Spotify streams and over 120k artist profile followers, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets rounded out 2019 triumphantly.

PRAISE FOR PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS

“With jubilant tie-dye riffs and squiggly guitar lines around every corner, A Now For The Whatchamacallit is every bit the celebratory psych-rock album it strives to be.”
DIY Mag

“ANFtW is a continuation of the quality we’ve come to expect from them after a brilliant past 3 years of music. It adds some new playfulness to the psychedelic charm of the past albums and is a consistently fun experience to add to their discography.”
Sputnik Music

“PPC don’t so much as throw caution to the wind as they incinerate caution and launch the ashes from the chopper.” Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe

“Their music is completely unique and the people who follow them, do so purely upon the respect of their artistic value and incredible showmanship.”
Isolated Nation

“Hailing from the countryside outside of Perth where they have honed their craft in elongated jam sessions and even longer house parties, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets return as a tour de force of spacious musical expression.”

HOLLIS PARKER UNVEILS NEXT SINGLE UPTOWN SUNDAY MORNING (AKA FLASHBACK)’ FROM HIS FORTHCOMING LP NEWSCAPISM BLENDING HOUSE AND JAZZ ELEMENTS, HE TELLS A STORY OF HIS FINAL 24 HOURS IN NYC

SOSURE MUSIC
HOLLIS PARKER – ‘UPTOWN SUNDAY MORNING (AKA FLASHBACK)’

OUT NOW

It has become a rarity to achieve pure house from an emerging name. It’s the kind of sound you would expect to hear from the pioneers like Kerri Chandler and Dennis Ferrer. Bending a curve in that stereotype is Hollis Parker who is set to release his sophomore LP ‘Newscapism’ this September.

Providing a sneak peak of what’s to come, Hollis Parker is set to release ‘Uptown Sunday Morning (AKA Flashback)’ as the next single from the forthcoming album on July 31st.

Carefully crafting his style, Hollis Parker homes in on the old-school NYC sound with an added hip hop feel and jazz fusion in his productions. Creating a contemporary and fresh approach to music on ‘Uptown Sunday Morning (AKA Flashback)’ he incorporates sub-bass, spoken word and jazz elements.

“This is a track for reminiscing on all of the good times that were had during the relationship. A song to remember all of the lovely moments in the past few years, just flashbacks. Our hero just wants to take a moment to reflect. I called it Uptown Sunday Morning because it reminded me of Harlem early on Sundays, when it’s so still and beautiful up there.” Hollis Parker

Originally from Queens (New York), Hollis Parker’s roots shine through his music. First turning heads and setting standards with his 2014 edit of Roy Ayres dreamy classic ‘Everybody Loves The Sunshine, he then released further vinyl only E.Ps on his co-owned imprint SoSure Music. Further progressing himself on the scene with his first critically acclaimed album ‘Last Raw Era’, he used it as an outlet to express his emotions following a breakup in NYC; almost as a form of a musical diary.

Newscapism arrives as a natural extension of his last album, continuing the story but reflecting his final 24 hours in NYC before moving away to a new life in London. Consistently revealing quality material, Hollis Parker’s ‘Newscapism’ is set to follow suit with ‘Uptown Sunday Morning (AKA Flashback) serving as prime example.

Hollis Parker ‘Newscapism’ will be released 18th September via SoSure Music
