Yves Jarvis Shares Music Video for New Single “Semula”

NEW ALBUM SUNDRY ROCK SONG STOCK

OUT SEPTEMBER 25

“An enthralling and surprising listen … coming from the same Afro-futuristic camp as Thundercat and Kendrick Lamar.” – Under the Radar

“Audet’s work is haunting yet inviting, blending careful folk-noir with tender R&B flourishes, pillowy vocal beds, and a punkish ambivalence.”  – XLR8R on “For Props“

Montreal’s Yves Jarvis is set to unveil his third studio album, Sundry Rock Song Stock, on September 25 (digitally) and November 13 (vinyl) via Flemish Eye. Following the release of “Victim” and “For Props,” Jarvis returns today with another new single from the record. Watch the official “Semula” music video on YouTube now.

Jealousy and judgmental behaviour earn his ire on “Semula” with its exhausted opening lines: It’s your aim to shame me / just please spare me your sanctimony.

As a pre-teen street corner busker, some of Jarvis‘ earliest performances took place outside. He returned to an open-air environment for his new album Sundry Rock Song Stock’s creation, setting up a makeshift studio to lay down its foundation of guitar, Nord synth, and Rhodes electric piano. Recording on a reel-to-reel tape machine, he experimented with various off-kilter techniques including a softly tapped steel drum drenched in effects, or melodies played on a wine glass meant to mimic a flute.

I want my recordings to be naturalist, so from that sense I am ideally making them outside. More than a musician or a singer, I’m a producer, and any studio I’m in will become my bedroom. Creation is my life and I don’t compartmentalize it at all. When you better yourself, you better the world. Even if you only interact with one person in your life, the effect of trying to see things for what they are is vast. Change can feel like a fantasy, but I’m not fatalistic about it. I make music because I get results that way. It’s why I promote creativity, whatever that means for anyone.

Melbourne’s neo-soul powerhouse Emma Volard reveals new single ‘Femininity’– an empowering anthem that narrates the female experience… a reclamation of power, strength and beauty

by the partae August 31, 2020
written by the partae

“As females, realistically we have all been subject to comments and actions that have belittled, stigmatised and diminished our sense of womanhood and integrity. In my case, this has seen me: being asked to “smile more” and wear more “feminine clothes” and asked “why don’t you wear makeup?” and most recently being told by a male photographer that said, “I usually take photos of hot skinny girls, so this is out of my comfort zone.” – Emma Volard

Melbourne artist Emma Volard is gearing up to lay down another epic slap of social-soul on her latest rhythmic groove, ‘Femininity’. With her music deeply rooted in seeking justice and storytelling with strong political, environmental and personal undertones, Emma Volard is one-upping herself on her most vulnerable, honest and empowering single to date. Out today, ‘Femininity’ explores gender equality and empowerment in the music industry and beyond, whilst offering women both a shoulder to lean on and a killer soundtrack to revolt to.

In a time where women are banding together to seek the strength and courage to speak out about their lived experiences of stigmatisation, harassment, hyper-sexualisation and degradation, Emma felt compelled to provide a voice for those who may be struggling to find their own. ‘Femininity’ is this voice – a hard-hitting joint that expresses the omnipotent force of the female gender. In this track, Emma has put together an all star line-up with an overwhelming percentage of female identifying artists including Allysha Joy on backing vocals, Elle Shimada on violin and Bumpy in the backing choir. This group of musical collaborators also includes drummer Jordan Pereira (Nasty Mars), percussionist Lucky Pereira (Close Counters) and Jake Amy (The Mamas). The track’s mixing finesse was executed by computer music innovator Moses Carr and mastered by the world-renowned engineer Nick Herrera, the producer of the Grammy Award Nominated Hiatus Kaiyote Album Choose Your Weapon.

“In the wake of recent events regarding a predatory male photographer and the rampant exploitation of women in the music industry, women are experiencing a collective trauma for those who have been affected by hyper-sexualised and belittling comments and actions. It has become clear to me that many men in the industry are using their power to take advantage of women in vulnerable positions. In no circumstance is this okay, systemic sexism and ignorance is no longer an excuse. We need to fight this together, we need men to be our allies not our gender’s undoing. This is not the case with all men – I would never want to discredit the men who are challenging social norms, facilitating discourse and fighting for equality. We need to support women and non-gender conforming people, but most importantly we need to support each other.” – Emma Volard

In only a year Emma Volard has made huge waves in the Melbourne music scene, playing festivals such as Brunswick Music Festival, Ocean Sounds, Isol-Aid Festival and Leaps and Bounds alongside nominal artists REMI, Emma Donovan and The Bamboos, and has been featured on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM alongside artists such as Sampa the Great. Emma’s vulnerable personal lens in the industry shows a sensitivity towards life’s foibles that she believes is influenced by the presence of her non-verbal severely autistic and epileptic sister Adelaide in her upbringing. Through her distinct lyrical expression and incessant groove, Emma hopes to continue to provide a voice for not only her sister but a voice for change in today’s modern diaspora; a voice for those who aren’t heard.

Summer is an exciting season for artists and audiences alike, with an increased demand for new music to fuel outdoor activities, summer flirtation and the general highlife that comes with it. Tiahi’s new single “Get Loving On” does exactly that and after the success of his previous release “Free” we reached out to the Berlin-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist to chat about the story behind “Get Loving On”. P: Tiahi, Get Loving On is definitely a love song with a creative storyline but at the same time also a true summer song  - what was the inspiration behind it, where did you write it and is it based on a true story? T: Yes and no (laughs), it went like this: I was in Vienna for a workshop and one night we went out to party. We were all buzzing from the day and then there was this beautiful girl that I just had to get to know. We really hit it off and I guess it was a bit of love at first sight, if that still exists. P: And then you got your loving on? T: No, actually we didn't (laughs again). As if the distance Berlin-Vienna wasn't enough, I was flying to Costa Rica for 3 months the following week and I found myself on the beach, thinking about all the things I'd want to do with her if we were closer and that's how I wrote the song basically. P: Wow, that's an amazing story. But with a bit of a bittersweet ending I guess.. Sounds like you didn't get to do the things you are singing about after all, so how does performing the song now make you feel? T: Oh I feel great about it, I'm thankful for the feeling she gave me, the inspiration and the buzz. Takes me right back to Costa Rica and reminds me that there is more love waiting out there.. P: No doubt about that. One last question that I just have to ask: how do you come up with a line like "Water so clear you see right through / Jump off a plane in Tuvalu"? Have you been? T: That's a good question (laughs). I was traveling in the South Pacific, 10h ferry ride in Tonga where I met this guy from France who'd been in the area for ages and he told me a lot of stories and one of them was about him jumping off a plane in Tuvalu, skydiving. I never forgot about it and when I was writing the song it popped up in my head and I was like 'yep, that's it'. SUNDRESSED SHARE NEW SINGLE ‘SIZE OF MY HEART’

SUPPORT FOR SUNDRESSED

“This one gets stuck in your head after just one or two listens.”
– Brooklyn Vegan (USA)

Tracks added to Spotify playlists ‘New Punk Tracks’, ‘Punk Unleashed’, ‘Pop Punk’s Not Dead’ and ‘Punk Rock Workout’

Tracks added to Apple Music playlists ‘Rise and Grind’ and ‘Breaking Rock’

Arizona’s favourite indie punks Sundressed have released another new single ‘Size Of My Heart‘ from their highly anticipated album ‘Home Remedy‘. ‘Home Remedy’ is set to be released on September 18th via the band’s new home Rude Records and features previous singles ‘Home Remedy‘, ‘Oh Please‘, and ‘Your Frequency‘.

“This song is about spreading yourself too thin,” shares vocalist Trevor Hedges. “I’ve always had a habit of not being able to say no to people and this song is about my journey through that.”

Living on such a chaotic planet, tossing and turning is inevitable. It’s hard to sleep in the midst of uncertainty. That’s why Sundressed was born. Lead vocalist and songwriter Trevor Hedges began his project in 2012, with the initial purpose of maintaining his sobriety. Now, eight years later, Hedges has refocused the project’s mission, writing songs that tackle mental health issues for others to take solace in. His confessional lyrics and punk-infused melodies inspire hope in listeners to continue moving forward.

With the addition of AJ Peacox (guitar), Vic Chan (drums), Matthew Graham, and Justin Portillo, Sundressed has never sounded better. With ‘Home Remedy, produced by Mike Pepe, the band is determined to make a positive impact, one lyric at a time.

‘Size Of My Heart’ is available worldwide now through Rude Records

NARROW HEAD NEW ALBUM 12TH HOUSE ROCK OUT NOW ON RUN FOR COVER RECORDS

by the partae August 31, 2020
written by the partae

“Riding a current of heavy rhythm, the track races through a haze of melodic guitar noise” STEREOGUM

“90s fans, Narrow Head are here so you no longer need to pretend that any of the Helmet, Quicksand or Smashing Pumpkins reunion material is actually good.” DECIBEL

“Acclaimed for their shimmery pop melodies and feedback-soaked shoegazery, the quintet evoke the bittersweet alt-rock of Smashing Pumpkins, Nothing and their ilk.” REVOLVER

“…their combination of nu-metal and ’90s grunge makes for pleasurable sonic immersion” PASTE

“Duarte’s drawl evokes Liam Gallagher’s nonchalant delivery, making the track an exciting trip in nostalgia” UPROXX

“a catchy dose of ’90s shoegaze and grunge worship” BROOKLYN VEGAN

“As the album title suggests, truly is a world of its own – and its emotional weight and power will transport you, whether you like it or not, into the darkest parts of Jacobs mind, as well as your own.” KERRANG!

“For an album whose influences are so explicit, 12th House Rock still manages to feel vibrant, breathing life into an established sound.” METAL HAMMER

Narrow Head’s wall of riffs add stark contrast to their best quality– deceptively sweet pop melodies. Rising from the Texas underground/DIY scene, Narrow Head quickly amassed a devoted following for their standout live performances and open-hearted, emotionally naked songwriting. Their sophomore effort 12th House Rock is the distillation of the greatest moments in 90’s alternative and hard rock with a fresh set of ears, thirteen tracks of Narrow Head’s signature brand of bludgeoning lullabies bursting at the seams with creative ideas, new directions and huge, monolithic riffs. Think Deftones with a sprinkle of Guided By Voices and Quicksand.

Delving into deep-seated themes of self loathing, desolation, self-medication, the loss of loved ones and hopeful redemption,12th House Rock is, as the title suggests, a rock-focused LP themed on transition– exploring the vast abyss of darkness just before the sun cracks upon the horizon.

12th House Rock is out now on Run For Cover records.

Delving into deep-seated themes of self loathing, desolation, self-medication, the loss of loved ones and hopeful redemption, 12th House Rock is, as the title suggests, a rock-focused LP themed on transition– exploring the vast abyss of darkness just before the sun cracks upon the horizon. “A lot of the record was made in the late hours and early morning,” recalls Duarte . ”Those quiet moments alone when utter silence and my self-medication made it impossible to escape from my own thoughts. It was also from a specific time when I didn’t take care of myself and made bad decisions in all aspects of my life. These songs were a way out, temporarily anyway.”

Narrow Head formed in 2013 but became fully realised as a band in Houston with the release of their 2016 debut LP Satisfaction and the lineup of Duarte , guitarist William Menjivar and drummer Carson Wilcox . Playing in the Texas scene instilled a can-do attitude, an ability to explore several different ideas along with a strong set of DIY ethics, qualities that still form the basis of the band to this day. “Book your own shows, book your own tours,” details Duarte about the foundation of his musical viewpoint. ”I think that having other musical projects provided a scene for us to play too. Nobody else was looking at us, so we had to make our own scene.”

12th House Rock was self-produced and born of close to a hundred takes with no click track, vocal correction, drum samples or quantising, resulting in thirteen testaments to pulverising pop, clocking in just above 50 minutes. Initially only Duarte, Menjivar and Wilcox in 2018, the trio of old friends entered the studio with a batch of songs intending to write bass parts on the fly. “I’ve known Jacob and Carson since childhood and they are the most talented musicians– total prodigies,” states Menjivar. The three looked to build an LP that reflected current tastes as well as “music [they] looked up to as kids,” according to Menjivar, adding their own twist on the entirety of it.

Though the primary trio was present throughout the entire cycle, fate intervened on bass as the undeniable chemistry between the band and then strictly producer Ryan Chavez led to his inclusion in Narrow Head . The newly minted four piece would handle the bulk of the remainder of the LP, bringing in Erica Miller (Big Bite, Casual Hex) , vocalist/lyricist on “Delano Door,” and mastering guru Sarah Register (Big Thief, U.S. Girls, Protomartyr) to put the final touches on the record. Guitarist Kora Puckett (Bugg, ex-Sheer Mag) , who previously logged hours as a live member in the tours preceding the LP, would join Narrow Head as a full-fledged member following the album’s completion.

Despite whatever comparisons that can be made to guitar tone, mood, songwriting, timbre or virtually anything else, Narrow Head are quick to credit their native Houston, TX as the primary source for it all. “Houston is the greatest city on earth,” says Duarte emphatically. “People who know, know. In Houston, you have to give people a reason to pay attention to you.” With 12th House Rock , not only will Narrow Head have Houston’s attention, but the entire rock world as well, giving us one of 2020’s most impressive releases.

CRYSTAL CITIES announce second album and return with the sharp and hard-hitting new single DON’T SPEAK TOO SOON
Music InterviewsMusic News

Crystal Cities

by the partae August 31, 2020
written by the partae

What is your name and role within the band?

My name is Geoff Rana and I’m the singer, songwriter, guitarist and keys player in Crystal Cities. Plus, I’ve recently added producer and engineer to my resume’.

How did Crystal Cities form?

It was formed by 3 scientists, Geoff, Dan and Jared, who, after years of experimenting, finally tweaked the fibonacci sequence to complete the first ever rock n roll time machine. We then transported ourselves a 1000 years into the future and have since returned to try and save the future of Rock music.

What’s been happening recently and how has your COVID experience been?

Covid hasn’t been too kind to musicians… But it has allowed us to finish the album a bit quicker than what we normally would have.

Please tell us about your upcoming album:

It’s called Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight and it’s way more loud and guitar-driven than our previous stuff. There’s lots of energy in these new songs which I think people are going to really dig.

Your new single ‘Don’t Speak Too Soon’ is out now, where and when did you record/produce?

We recorded this in Studio A, aka My bedroom which was fitted with all the latest gear and equipment to create the unique sounds we were after. Such gear included:
– Set of clothes draws
– Cupboard
– Fold out bed
– Guitar
– Microphone, and
– An audio interface

If you listen carefully you will be able to hear cars, planes, kids screaming, and vacuum cleaners in the background of the track.

What influenced the sound and songwriting?

I always try to write songs that are going to sound good live. So, that was one aspect…

How did you go about writing Don’t Speak Too Soon?

Well, it’s a classic story that seems to repeat for me… I picked up the guitar, strummed it and then thought “no that’s rubbish”, waited another hour, tried again, and boom it worked! Don’t Speak To Soon was born.

Who did you work with during the creation of the album?

Myself and the other two scientists, Dr Jared King and Professor Daniel Conte ,both outstanding in their field. But it was myself that I worked on the most since I had a lot of issues that needed resolving…

How did you approach the recording process?

From behind. Scared the living shit out of it I did.

What did you find most challenging and rewarding?

Wearing clothes and not wearing clothes.

What do you like to do away from music?

Listen to music.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

My wife.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2020?

Releasing more tunes and (hopefully) playing some shows…

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Bananas. In trees.

Navy Gangs’ debut album ‘Poach’, released in 2018 via Dinosaur City Records, saw the band take on a 30-date tour of the USA with Father/Daughter’s Anna McLellan, performing a string of shows at SXSW which prompted New York’s Breakthru Radio to say they “play their songs like they’ve been hits for decades”.

While ‘Poach’ and 2016’s self-titled EP ‘Navy Gangs’ were packed with mega-hook guitars, fuzz organs and driving rhythm, ‘Somewhere’ works with a stripped-down palette bare of percussion or drums, balancing Tillwick’s emotive vocals with swirling guitars.

Navy Gangs have released 1 x self-titled EP and a highly acclaimed debut album ‘Poach’, playing alongside the likes of Alex G, The Garden and Dehd, and turning heads at Stereogum, The Fader, Pilerats, Northern Transmissions, Les Inrocks and LNWY among others, garnering a loyal following of critics and fans alike in the USA, Europe, Australia and beyond.

‘Somewhere’ is out now via Dinosaur City Records. Stream/share ‘Sometimes’ here.

‘Sometimes’ lyrics

Sometimes when I don’t feel like it
Sorry I cant come with
I’m offline

sometimes I feel like I’m done with it
I’m not in front of him
Just pass me by

Sometimes I feel like were on a cliff
It’s not promising
I’ll try next time

I try to make everyone
Feel alright
I don’t have time

Powerhouse duo DVBBS returns to Ultra Music with their highly anticipated “Nothing To See Here” album, which features 9 tracks encompassing much-loved past hits and brand new tunes. It delivers all the sounds they have become known and loved for, from the groovy and soulful vibes of “Swim” and “Loyal” to the dancefloor-ready beats of “Jackin’” and “Wrong About You.” Listeners will recognize past hits “GOMF,” “Need U,” and “Somebody Like You,” which all play a part in telling the story of this past year’s experiences through the boys’ eyes. The release of “Nothing To See Here” comes hot on the heels of DVBBS‘s single “No Time” with Wiz Khalifa and Cheat Codes, proving that the duo’s style is as well versed as ever and always evolving.

“‘Nothing To See Here‘ has been a project we’ve been unraveling for the last year, that digs deeper into our life with productions and songwriting that paint a vivid picture of what experiences we were going through.” – DVBBS

Few producers have risen to the top in the electronic music scene as quickly as DVBBS, who captured the industry’s attention with hits like “Tsunami” and “Not Going Home” and never let it go. The Canadian brothers Alex and Christopher have been continuously cultivating their sound since their debut in 2012, and have racked up an impressive display of collaborations with renowned names from diverse musical backgrounds. From hip hop superstar Juicy J to the NERVO twins, DVBBS continues to prove there’s nothing they can’t accomplish. The brothers have played everywhere from Lollapalooza to Tomorrowland, though they’ve been busy in the studio during the global pandemic. Keep an eye out for more new music from DVBBS coming to airwaves near you!

Earl Gray Collective impress with their new uplifting single ‘Love It Flows’

by the partae August 29, 2020
written by the partae

South London based four piece Earl Gray Collective, immerse the listener in smooth, warm vocals and funky melodies in their newest offering ‘Love It Flows’. Their mix of indie rock/pop is exceedingly vibrant, and their effortless and polished tone is wonderfully mesmeric. ‘Love It Flows’ carries a bluesy base with ethereal and sophisticated piano keys, wrapped in catchy and expressive lyrics. The band’s distinctive playfulness is infectious upon listening, and their elements of blues and funk are fluently incorporated to create a truly enticing sound.

Discussing their new single, the band said: “With our third single of 2020 we got adventurous with a strong bass groove, varied time-signatures and a sing-along vocal hook. The song itself speaks into the frustrations of living in a world so often filled with fear and the journey of choosing to live by love instead.”

Earl Gray Collective bring their talents together from Cardiff, Hampshire, Woking and Australia, and their individual personalities shine through their artistry. Members Will Gray (Vocals, Piano, Guitar), Katie Earl (Drums), Zac Guy (Electric Guitar) and Alex Neil (Bass) have defined their collective style and have already built a strong fanbase, as well as gained support from the likes of Alice Amel (Riverside Radio). With 2020 proving an exciting year for their music, there is much more to come from this multi-talented four piece.

BRUNSWICK MUSIC FESTIVAL RETURNS IN 2021 – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST OPEN NOW!

by the partae August 28, 2020
written by the partae

After an abrupt stop and a long pause, Moreland City Council is gearing up to hit play on Brunswick Music Festival again in March 2021. Things are going to look, feel and potentially sound, different. This is the new normal after all, but it’s the re-imagining that makes it so exciting. So, where to from here?

To accomodate for COVID-19 restrictions, the BMF team will be keeping things as flexible as possible while still finding ways to deliver special collaborations and events and fantastic opportunities for local artists, venues and audiences – dedicated and excited to bring the relief of live music to you in whichever way they can.

Since the needle skipped on this year’s event, the world as we know it has been turned upside down. Now more than ever, music feels essential and the tenets that Brunswick Music Festival is built on – neighbourhood and community, inclusivity, diversity and sustainability along with creating a sense of place and safe spaces – seem less like ideals and more like non-negotiables.

With the confinement cultivating a hotbed of creativity, the BMF team are keen to pick up what you want to put down by providing a platform for your audacious ideas, born under the cover of isolation, to be liberated through presentation in their next festival.

They want to work with you to realise your multifaceted, music-based vision in a special one-of-a-kind festival show, in all its boldness and daring, as it speaks to the new world we find ourselves living in.

They also want to hear from musicians, music groups, bands, ensembles or venues in the Brunswick area, who wants to be involved in the 2021 festival.

Local legend and champion of the music community Emily Ulman will once again take charge of expertly crafting the 2021 program, which is set to comprise a collective exhale, a healthy dose of togetherness, a huge cup of joy and some really, really, really great live music experiences.

BMF X ONE-OF-A-KIND FESTIVAL SHOW EOI

What’s your big idea? Your out-of-the-ordinary live music show concept that is oh, so excellent. The kind of “hell yeah” moment that people will lose their minds over.

The BMF team are looking to co-produce your one-of-a-kind festival show that:
  • Is presented in postcode 3056, 3055 or 3057
  • Speaks to current issues and trends both in the world at large and the contemporary music landscape
  • Champions the festival tenets:
    • Neighbourhood and community
    • Inclusivity, diversity and sustainability
    • A sense of place
    • Safe spaces
  • Engages with their priority communities (women and gender diverse, ATSI, people with a disability, migrant and refugee, and LGBTQI+)
  • Fosters local audiences, their existing audience or brings new audiences to the festival
  • Can be flexible and respond to COVID-19 restrictions as required

Your one-of-a-kind festival show can comprise live music and performance, be a happening, an exhibition, activation, workshop, talk, industry development idea or any other form of expression that brings together your original ideas to make something entirely new that would find a perfect outlet in a festival context.

It can be many things – conceptual, fantastical, multi-sensory, wonderful, colourful, collaborative, unconventional, extraordinary, thought provoking, awe-inspiring, moving or straight up entertaining.

Examples from previous years include:

  • Dolly: A Tribute – a night of re-interpreted classics and rarities from the Queen of Country courtesy of five incredible Melbourne musicians that had the whole room dancing in the aisles
  • Seen and Believed – an exhibition of photo-documentation of Melbourne’s diverse and intricate underground music scene curated by Naomi Lee Beveridge
  • Undone at 31 – Martin Frawley’s solo album launch that happened 21 times over 21 nights in a Sydney Road shopfront converted into the artist’s bedroom with surprise special guests nightly
  • Brunswick Music FEASTival – a tasty sold out show that featured a degustation of six epic food themed bands
  • Music in Exile/Bedroom Sucks presents Music at Home – a laid back afternoon of music, poetry and food, centred around ideas of place, identity and international displacement

The festival team are open to different models of partnership, so be specific about what you need to make your dream materialise. This might be cold hard cash, production and technical support, or assistance with audience development. All events presented will benefit from the festival marketing campaign.

Before applying, please contact Amber Stuart – Brunswick Music Festival Executive Producer at festivals@moreland.vic.gov.au or on 9240 2376 to discuss your idea.

APPLY ONLINE HERE
Please note: This EOI is not a call out for performers, bands, artists or community groups. The BMF team are specifically seeking ideas for curated one-of-a-kind festival shows that feature a specific theme and concept, multiple artists, speakers or activities. Moreland-based performers, bands, artists, community group and venues interested in getting involved in the 2021 festival, please check out the BMF X MORELAND COMMUNITY EOI BELOW.

BMF X MORELAND COMMUNITY EOI

Calling all musicians, bands, community groups and venues

Do you or any of your bandmates live, work or study in Moreland? Are you a member of a Moreland-based community music group or a school with an awesome music program? Are you a local venue that presents live music? The festival team want to know who’s out there and who’s keen to be involved with BMF 2021!

For 2021, things will be done a little differently, focusing the call out on uncovering and discovering the incredible talents that lie closest to home. They’re looking for solo artists, bands, choirs, orchestras and more plus any local venues who want to be a part of the 2021 BMF program.

Your expression of interest does not guarantee a spot in the festival but could lead to being programmed for indoor shows, outdoor line-ups, surprise locations and more, or your venue featuring in the 2021 program. If you have a particular idea about where you would like to perform or what you would like to do, they’d love to hear about that too!

Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, Chelsea Warner unveils her sassy new single ‘Back On My Bullshit’ today. Since releasing her debut single ‘How Come You Don’t Pick Up Your Phone’ in April, Chelsea has been busy writing and producing music with some of her contemporaries: Emalia, Nardean, Sarah Wolfe, Sarah Saint James, Bri Clark, Doolie, Charlotte Adelle, Jesabel, and SKŸE – who is also managed by Right Hand Management (Michael Parisi).    Speaking about her new single today, Chelsea says “Back On My Bullshit' is a track about being unapologetically selfish in the name of putting yourself first - without worrying about ramifications. PETRIC RETURN WITH STRIKING NEW SINGLE "DÉJÀ VU"
Music InterviewsMusic News

Petric

by the partae August 28, 2020
written by the partae
What is your name and role within Petric?
Jason Petric, guitarist, singer, songwriter… and I do all the grunt work

How did Petric form?
The evolution of Petric continues to roll. Petric really took shape in the summer of 2013. At the time it was the “Jason Petric” project. I had a few solo albums out, and was doing my best to dig into the industry. Jordan and I were gigging all over Manitoba. Bars, clubs, festivals, every opportunity we could get to perform, we took it. Tom started making guest appearances at all these shows. He would come up to sing a song or two, and it was always those songs that sounded the best. The chemistry, the harmonies, the energy that the 3 of us had when performing those songs, it was undeniable. Shortly after that, we committed to changing the project to PETRIC.

Where are you currently based?
Winnipeg MB is where we have always been out of, and continue to call home.

How has your COVID experience been so far?
I think most of the band has quite enjoyed having the summer home. No traveling, no rehearsals, extra time with the family. Its all good. Fortunately, everyone has been healthy, and we’ve had this new music to prepare.

You have a single ‘Deja Vu’ out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
I always thought the title Deja Vu was cool. This song was written years ago. We had really really wanted this track to be part of the 18 Ends EP, but it never happened at that time. This song really grew into the song it is now over a lot of time, and of effort. Our band, and producer really helps us a lot with finding the sound at times, and this song was definitely a collaboration from everyone

How did you go about writing De Ja Vu?
We wrote this song with Seth Mosely, and Brad Rempel from High Valley a few years ago. It was an awesome experience to work with both those guys. I think we all knew this song was going to get recorded one day. It instantly felt good.

You also have a new album on the way, please tell us about the song writing process and what the album means to you:
This album means absolutely everything to us. This album is PETRIC. We must have written 50 songs for this project, and listened to 50 more. The band, Tom, Jordan, our drummer Jon Plet, bassist Ben Mak, and myself, we rehearsed for months, leading up to every studio session. We challenged each other every step of the way(and it wasn’t always friendly). So to be here now, and feel very satisfied with the music, it’s a great feeling of accomplishment.

Where and when did you record/produce?
We recorded at Bedside Studios in Winnipeg. We flew our producer Chris Baseford up a couple times(Once in the middle of January when it was -40…sorry dude).

What programs/instruments did you use and how did you approach the recording process?
I’m pretty sure we didn’t use any spoons… everything else made it haha

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Chris Cornell. His voice has really found a home in my soul the last few months.

What do you like to do away from music?
Family. I’m newly married to a lovely girl named Laura. I have a step daughter named Hunter, 2 dogs, and 3 cats. There’s a lot of love in our house, and its the only thing that I want to be doing.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2020 going into 2021?
Like you mentioned, we have a new album coming out. We’ve shot 2 music videos already. 1 more needs to be filmed. We’ve already started to discuss getting back into the studio for February. We have a few more songs we want to get out of us.

Favourite food and place to hangout?
The Forks/The Common in Winnipeg. The Forks has always been the meeting place in Manitoba. It’s got such a cool atmosphere. It’s my favorite place in Winnipeg forsure.

CROOKED COLOURS UNVEIL ‘LOVE LANGUAGE’ ACCLAIMED AUSTRALIAN INDIE-DANCE TRIO RETURN WITH EUPHORIC NEW SINGLE LONG-AWAITED NEW TRACK ARRIVES ALONGSIDE OFFICIAL COMPANION VIDEO

Acclaimed Australian indie-dance trio Crooked Colours have unveiled their brilliant new single – ‘Love Language’ –  available now at all DSPs and streaming services HERE. The uplifting, euphoric new track exemplifies an evolution for the trailblazing band. Cymbals brush up against finger-snaps as lead singer Phil Slabber’s dynamic voice carries an intimate verse over a skittering beat and rich bass groove. Highlighted by lush keys, the vocals stretch into a hypnotic high register. ‘Love Language’ is joined by an equally bright companion video, streaming now via the band’s YouTube HERE.

“Phil had written the lyrics when he was living in L.A. at the end of last year,” recalls Leon Debaughn [keys, production], “We slowly worked on the music from there. I think it’s important to release a song like this right now. There should be some more love in the world.” Elaborating on the lyrical content of the new single Philip Slabber [vocals, guitar, production] continues, “This song is about the different ways in which we communicate our love for each other. How special it is to find someone that speaks the same love language as you. It’s a celebration of the uniqueness of relationships.”

Crooked Colours have quickly earned applause as one of Australia’s hottest new electronic acts, scoring over 100 million worldwide streams thus far with a series of increasingly popular tracks – including the breakthrough single, ‘Flow‘ – and show-stealing festival performances around the globe. Selected by triple j as a Feature Album for “expanding their spellbinding sonic world,” LANGATA, the band’s 2019 sophomore album, was a feature album on hit #1 on the Dance Albums Chart as well as top 10 on the overall ARIA Albums Chart, fueled in part by tracks like ‘Do It Like You,’ ‘I’ll Be There‘, and ‘Never Dance Alone (Feat. Ladyhawke).’

Recently, the band spent over a year touring around the world and playing massive sold-out shows throughout North America as well as breakout performances at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Firefly, Electric Forest, Life Is Beautiful, CRSSD and more. This past March, while on the road with fellow Australian band RÜFÜS DU SOL, the band put their touring on pause in order to ensure the safety of their fans and crew. The band is looking forward to touring again and playing rescheduled dates at Brooklyn Mirage in New York, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver and festivals such as Outside Lands and Lightning In A Bottle in California.

ABOUT CROOKED COLOURS:

Extracting harmony from the union of seemingly disparate elements, Crooked Colours exist at an elusive crossroads between delicate acoustic instrumentation, evocative vocals, and dancefloor-ready synth transmissions. The Australian trio—Phil Slabber [vocals, guitar, production], Leon Debaughn [keys, production], and Liam Merrett-Park [drums]—could just as easily soothe a quaint coffeehouse or a chaotic club. Generating over 100 million streams, selling out shows on multiple continents, and garnering looks from Billboard, NME, YourEDM, This Song Is Sick, and more, the group further sharpen this shape-shifting sound on a series of singles and their forthcoming debut for Atlantic Records.

Crooked Colours have spent quarantine back in Fremantle, Western Australia to focus on creating new music. Stay tuned for more exciting releases from the rising band, “Love Language” is the first taste of what’s to come!
