The second chapter of Race Car Blues was first seeded with the release of ‘Low’ in late 2019, a slightly off-kilter track for Slowly Slowly at the time, now finding itself sitting snuggly among the Chapter 2 tracklisting. Stewart explains that while the tracks on Chapter 2 didn’t land on the original Race Car Blues, overtime the collection took on a life of its own and called for its own record.
“What we first envisaged as background information that assisted in connecting the dots of Chapter 1 soon became its own entity and has actually planted a few seeds,” he shares.
“In retrospect, some of those pieces that didn’t quite feel like they fit on the original album have served as great stepping stones to where Slowly is headed. Chapter 2 pushes the envelope a little further in every direction – heavier, more pop sensibility and a deeper dive into intimate solo songs.
“This is and has always been the ultimate aim for Slowly Slowly, to celebrate the music we love – anthemic heart on sleeve songwriting – but across a broad spectrum of genres. Having no creative ceiling for this project only pushed that ethos further.”
The announce of Race Car Blues – Chapter 2 comes after the release of its captivating first single ‘Comets & Zombies’ last month. Stepping into the New Year Stewart played a string of sold out Slowly Slowly solo nights along the east coast, meanwhile the band are due to play Live At The Bowl alongside Ocean Alley, Maddy Jane & The Grogans in March, their rescheduled headline Race Car Blues national release tour in June, as well as slots at Full Tilt Festival in Melbourne & Brisbane. Details below.
2020’s Race Car Blues met an acclaimed response, debuting at #8 on the ARIA Australian Album Chart, taking out the coveted triple j Feature Album slot and clocking knockout global reviews from the likes of Kerrang!, Dead Press, Beat Magazine, Tone Deaf, The Music + more.
Race Car Blues – Chapter 2 is out everywhere Friday February 26 via UNFD. Pre-order the full Race Car Blues Extended Edition collection now.

“King gizzard’s new album (y’all know what it’s called) is definitely not coming out in February.” – Stu Mackenzie |

Having finished the end of last year with a stunning animated video for the previously unreleased If Not Now, Then When?, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard have today dropped another brand new track, O.N.E. |
|
|
|
The track is accompanied by a kaleidoscopic cut & paste video directed by Melbourne videographer Alex McClaren. Talking about the video, Alex said: |
|
|
|
“The song itself feels as if it’s constantly moving along so I tried to keep the visuals continually moving forward and sliding into different visual styles and landscapes. I felt the mix of stop motion and collage through the use of found imagery and the band would help compliment the tracks lyrics and themes as I interpreted them, of dreams, nightmares, climate change, dystopias, and utopias, as well as referencing events that took place during the making of the video over 2020. All video of the band was shot by Ambrose during the second lockdown restrictions and I had to give notes on shooting and direct remotely which was strange but so was everything during that period.” |

Arguably the most tireless band on the planet, November saw the band release their most recent studio album, K.G. to much acclaim. On the same day in November they also released a live album, Live In San Francisco ’16 and companion live concert film and earlier in the year Live In Asheville ’19 and Demos Vol.1 + Vol.2 came out via Bandcamp. |
|
|
|
Additionally, April saw them release a live tour movie (and attendant album) Chunky Shrapnel, an up-close, unconventional and discombobulating portrait that captured the power and sheer oddness of the live Gizz experience, a tour that culminated in a sold-out headline show at London’s historic Alexandra Palace in late 2019. |

In 2021 CLIKNO celebrates its 5th anniversary and presents with its 10th release a very special acoustic techno EP from Dr.Nojoke entitled “Muaco”.
Muaco stands for Music against Corona and deals with the clubless time we are all experiencing.
When Dr.Nojoke picked up his Höfner acoustic guitar during the lockdown in spring he was looking for new inspirations. The recordings led to three brilliant poly-rhythmical tracks for a special trip far off the beaten path. Dr.Nojoke suggests his EP as much as a way for home-clubbing as well as a listening experience.
We don´t even know, if it is techno or what, but as mostly all parts were created with acoustic guitar you may file it under acoustic techno or guitar techno.
We think it is just great groovy music – pulsating, hypnotic, danceable, kraut-ish, freaky – that should be played everywhere.

Starting 2021 with the same momentum carried throughout much of 2020, Gordi (aka Sophie Payten) today releases the Our Two Skins (Remixed) EP and announces additional shows for her forthcoming Australian tour throughout February and March.
A seven-track offering, the EP features beautifully re-worked tracks from 2020’s Our Two Skins by an impressive collection of Gordi’s friends and affiliates – Helado Negro, Ryan Hemsworth, Georgia Maq (Camp Cope), Loraine James, Lawrence English and Alex Somers.
Of the new release, Gordi shares: “I love hearing how the same song sounds in someone else’s head. Some of my favourite artists have breathed new life into tracks from “Our Two Skins” from the corners of the globe. It’s a really special collection.”

Today, Micra release their magnetic new single ‘Sonata’, with the Sydney duo expertly creating a sonic and emotional tug of war in the dream-pop wonder.
The intriguing push and pull of ‘Sonata’ surfaces from the tension between the syncopated drum beat and the echo-laden guitars, reminiscent of genre forebearers such as Beach House or the Cocteau Twins. ‘Sonata’ begs for immediate replay, with the Ivi and Robbie’s signature multi-layered, swelling production and intriguing melodies coalescing together to create a soothing, dense slice of dream-pop. The track’s psychedelic video was made with an analogue video synthesizer.

Where are you currently based?
I’ve been residing in LA for the past almost 4 years touring the American circuit.
What’s been happening recently and how has your Covid experience been so far?
2020 was pretty uneventful as it was for most musicians, but currently I’m in Australia and very lucky to be doing some covid free shows!
How did you first start playing music?
I’ve played guitar & piano since I was a child, played in many different bands throughout my teens before discovering EDM.
Your new single ‘Enemy’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting & How did you go about writing Enemy with Shane Told of Silverstein who features on the track, how did this come about and how was the experience?
I’ve been doing the whole rock/metal EDM crossover thing for a while now (usually on the more heavier side) but since the lack of shows over the current year, I’ve been exploring the more melodic side of things. I originally wrote enemy using a Silverstein Acapella as a place holder and it worked too perfectly, so then I hit up Shane to see if he’d be down to write some original vocals for the tune and he was super into the idea and so easy to work with!
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?
I do everything myself from my home studio & Shane recorded his vocals in his home studio.
Enemy mashes up EDM with Heavy sounds, how did this mash come to be?
That’s the PhaseOne sound. Once I discovered EDM I was still very much into writing metal too, so figured why not combine them both haha.
What programs/equipment did you use?
I use ableton. For synths on this song I used the VST Serum & a guitar simulator synth called Heavier7strings.
What do you like to do away from music?
I like music that catches me off guard, I love obscure time signatures and frequent changes. Nerdy music basically haha, but I also thrive on the energy that heavy music brings.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Northlane. Periphery. Polyphia. Fat Freddys Drop.
What’s planned for 2021?
At the moment just taking advantage of some actual shows out here in Aus. Music wise, I plan on releasing a lot more melodic music and another EP at some point in the coming months.
GRAMMY® Award-winning multiplatinum alt-rock band SYSTEM OF A DOWN reveal the details of a very special Livestream Fundraising Event on Sunday January 31, 2021, culminating with the music video premiere of their 2nd single, Genocidal Humanoidz. The group once again steps up to support humanitarian efforts in their ancestral homeland of Armenia when needed most. The Livestream will be broadcast exclusively on the band’s official YouTube Channel.
In the tragic aftermath of the most egregious violence to affect the area since 1994, soldiers for the Defense Army of Artsakh and Armenia (many of them volunteers) suffered war crimes at the hands of the invaders- Azerbaijan abetted by Turkey and their Syrian mercenaries. These young men, wounded in the conflict, remain in dire need of prosthetics, advanced treatment, and medical care. SYSTEM OF A DOWN is hosting the Livestream in order to raise money to rehabilitate and outfit soldiers who have lost arms and legs with life-changing prosthetic limbs. Additionally, funding will benefit the introduction of groundbreaking laser therapy for the treatment of chemical burns from banned white phosphorous weapons. All proceeds from the Livestream will be donated to this noble cause.
The Livestream launches at 4am Australian EDT time. The band will welcome a roster of guests to join them for interviews. These include representative for Armenia Fund USA Maria Mehranian, Armenian-American musician Sebu Simonian, Good Day LA’s Araksya Karapetyan, Harvard Clinician Dr. Lilit Garibyan (who leads the charity “Face Of Angel” which has established medical laser treatments in Armenia and now aims to provide medical scar laser treatments to soldiers with burn and trauma scars), Armenian Parliamentarian Narek Mkrtchyan, (who is leading the development of a new prosthetic hand lab and initiative with Homeland Defenders Rehabilitation Center), and director Adam Mason of Deep Sky Animation who helped create the Genocidal Humanoidz music video. A special video from Lt. Colonel Sargis Stepanyan from Armenian Wounded Heroes Fund and additional videos of support from VIP friends of the band will be showcased throughout the livestream. Wrapping up the event, the video debuts worldwide at 6am Australian EDT time. Viewers may donate throughout the entire stream on the band’s YouTube channel.
In November 2020, SYSTEM OF A DOWN released new music for the first time since 2005 in order to rally for Armenia. They released Protect The Land and Genocidal Humanoidz and pledged royalties earned, including from purchases on Bandcamp, to the major non-profit, Armenia Fund. Along with other donations from fans on their social pages, they have raised over $600K so far.
