Hosse presents “Open Up”, out now on Lowlita Records

by the partae January 29, 2022
written by the partae

The third release from the label born in Ibiza includes two original tracks and a remix by Anna Tur and Gonçalo.

► AVAILABLE NOW ◄

Lowlita Records, the label created by Anna Tur, Gonçalo and Hosse, continues its particular journey based on a concept that perfectly fuses the groove of House and the forcefulness of Techno. On this occasion, their third release is called “Open Up” and is by one of the label’s owners, Hosse, an artist who has had music running through his veins since he was just a child. Deeply influenced by jazz, soul and funk, Hosse soon discovered his true love: electronic music.

The release starts with the track, “Open Up“, a creation that imprints a fast-paced rhythm from the very first second. The bass line pushes the track to the top, giving it an inexhaustible energy. The suggestive vocals and acid sounds round off a composition that the most demanding clubbers will love.

Anna Tur and Gonçalo’s remix of “Open Up” takes over. Their proposal is more forceful, basing its groove on more emphatic beats and less percussive movement. The vocal continues to be an essential element in this track, taking advantage of its suggestive tone and adding it to cyclical atmospheres that end up exploding in a drop that will take the dancefloor by storm.

The EP closes with “Ibiza’s Calling“, a track with a filter house sound characterised by its funk and luminosity, very true to its name. The track takes us back to the golden years of house music on the island, it sounds like open air, summer and a good party.

The Sevillian artist Fossy Flyer has designed the artwork for this release. His work precisely combines vector art, illustration and calligraphy, creating powerful pieces of art.

“Open Up” is available from January 14th on Bandcamp. It will be available on Beatport and Spotify on January 28th, and on all digital platforms from February 11th.

Krewella Explore The Dark Side Of The Human Psyche With “I’m Just A Monster Underneath, My Darling” – New Single From Upcoming Album “The Body Never Lies”

by the partae January 29, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: Krewella
Title: I’m Just A Monster Underneath, My Darling
Label: Mixed Kids Records

Just after announcing their new album “The Body Never Lies,” Krewella sisters are giving fans an enticing teaser by dropping “I’m Just A Monster Underneath, My Darling” as the next single. The fusion of drum & bass and pop music is both emotive and hard-hitting; opening with a stunning vocal performance and haunting lyrics, Krewella up the ante by incorporating basslines that make the track uniquely club-ready. “I’m Just A Monster Underneath, My Darling” is a shining example of Krewella‘s signature style of dance-worthy and yet meaningful music that spans from heavy bass to the more pop side of the sonic spectrum. Keep an eye out for the full album release on March 04, as well as “The Body Never Lies” tour kicking off on April 01.

“‘I’m Just A Monster Underneath, My Darling‘ is a story told from dual perspectives: both the victim and antagonist, the predator and prey. Through anger, despair, and power, this song explores the possibility that below the surface, perhaps both exist in everyone, regardless of who they see themselves as in the narrative.” – Krewella

Sisters Jahan and Yasmine exploded onto the scene in 2012 with their debut self-released EP “Play Hard,” which has now been streamed almost 150M times on Spotify alone; additionally, their single “Alive” from the EP has been certified Platinum. Since then, the duo has made a name for themselves and their hard-hitting yet melodic and vocal-driven sound through releases like “Live for the Night,” “Enjoy the Ride,” and more. In 2016, Krewella was awarded a coveted place on Forbes‘s “30 Under 30” list. They have performed at major global music festivals, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Music Festival, iHeartRadio Music Festival, and many others, in addition to their own headlining tours. As one of the main elements of the Krewella canon, the group’s onstage performances serve as the live extension of their music and art, incorporating a multitude of audiovisual elements together with Jahan and Yasmine‘s live vocals and powerful onstage energy.

SWICK & KING DOUDOU’S 2014 INTERNET DREAMS EP COPS A RE-RELEASE ON NLV RECORDS

by the partae January 28, 2022
written by the partae

PRAISE FOR INTERNET DREAMS

“This multimedia project takes vaporwave’s nostalgia for the internet’s darker days, and its obsession with the hollowness of global capitalism, to their natural conclusion.”
VICE

“Crazy club music is what these two guys do best.”
Complex

“Raise a toast to Mad Decent wunderkinds Swick and Douster for taking things back to lo-fi feels with their collaborative EP Internet Dreams. Now you can experience the full cyber-influenced aesthetic coupled with an obligatory webcam component.”
Acclaim

Back in 2014, Naarm/Melbourne producer Swick linked up with French producer King Doudou (Hugo Douster) for Internet Dreams, a multimedia web experience paired with an EP of four original tracks. Today, the project is resurrected – with the website being reinstated and the EP copping a re-release by NLV Records. LISTEN HERE.

Internet Dreams originally came about through a visit from Douster to Swick’s studio in Naarm/Melbourne. “I was in Australia and I hung out for a few days with Swick in his garage,” he said. “We were eating lots of yellow food, like chips and fried chicken, and somewhere in the middle of the night, we were pretty high, sampling crappy novation tech-house synth sounds when the mini-jack found its way through Swick’s laptop output. I started sampling the sounds that came out of his internet and we made songs with those samples.”

The EP captures a moment in time that remains poignant – if anything, the release sounds closer to sounds being explored in 2022 than those that were being explored in 2014. Over the course of four tracks, both producers take us on a multi-dimensional trip; traversing through the sounds of reminiscent ringtones, hi-tech aesthetics and tactile Y2K samples to wholly capture a collage as advertised: of internet dreams.

‘CHAMPIONSHIP RINGTONE LEAGUE’ is an ode to the Nokia theme – arguably the Holy Grail of ringtones. ‘HACKER’S CONVENTION JAM’ invokes intensity through vocal samples, with a fuzzy synth locking in your attention like a hacker to a computer screen. In an ode to dial-up internet, ‘56K DESERT CONNECTION’ harkens back to simpler times when an hour of your time would be spent downloading a couple of virus-laden MP3 files. A snake-charmer lead weaves in and out of punchy percussive stabs, leading us through the 56K Desert. And finally, ‘OS WAR III‘ pits the big operating systems against one another in a clash of pounding, industrial-tech, rounding out the release with a motherboard-like menagerie of internet-ripped samples.

Through the Internet Dreams website, the pair were able to bring the EP to life – or to its second life, at least. The website takes on the aesthetics of films like Hackers and Johnny Mnemonic, with the site adopting a straightforward command-line terminal to do things like downloading the tracks and accessing alternative content such as videos and an audio teaser.

NEW ON FENDER PLAY: R&B/Soul Path

by the partae January 28, 2022
written by the partae

Fender Play, the complete online learning platform for guitar, bass & ukulele, is today launching a brand-new path celebrating R&B/Soul music. This new path joins the popular Blues path, which has been on the Fender Play platform since its inception.

The revolutionary styles of R&B and soul derived from traditional blues, jazz & gospel music in the 1940s, and over the decades, expanded into contemporary, mainstream top 40 music  & beyond. It showed the world the power of soul & feel and, of course, introduced us to iconic artists including Earth, Wind, and Fire, Alicia Keys, Amerie, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, H.E.R, Aretha Franklin & Curtis Mayfield.

This distinctive new Fender Play path launches with 18 new courses focusing on the building blocks of R&B  rhythm, tones, and chords and introduces five new instructors, including Taylor Gamble & Izzy Fontaine. These new lessons feature songs from R&B/Soul legends and come with all the Fender Play trimmings – chord scroll, practice tracks, end-of-level reviews, and the new feature, feedback mode.

The brand has just introduced Feedback Mode, a Beta feature that goes beyond the guitar instruction the app already offers, and actually listens to your playing, provides an overall score, and detailed, note-by-note feedback to help new players adjust and improve their skills. With this new feature, plus a massive song library, plus video instruction on popular songs from songwriters themselves, it’s grown to be an amazingly comprehensive way to learn to play.

PRODUCER SAM FORD AND HIS TONE CITY RECORDING STUDIO LAUNCHES LABEL AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WA STUDIO ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PLANS, ROSTER AND LAUNCH EVENT

by the partae January 28, 2022
written by the partae

Tone City Recording is one of WA’s premier boutique studios, with Sam Ford at the helm working with some of Australia’s most talented and sonically diverse names. As a new year gets underway, Tone City is ready to take its next steps (read: strides) forward in its evolution.

Having established as one of Western Australia’s proficient and in demand producers, Ford (POND, Birds of Tokyo, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets) has been working tirelessly in recent years to execute a special creative vision: to establish a recording company and music label that would represent the best talent being nurtured out West, and bring the goods to the rest of the county.

2022 sees the vision become a reality, with the launch of the official Tone City Records label and the debut of the Tone City Artist Development Program. While the recording studios themselves undergo expansion, with an additional recording space currently under construction in WA’s South West, Tone City are concentrating their efforts on their wildly talented roster and growing their presence not just at home, but beyond.

Tone City Records is home to a roster of artists who are currently making their impact and presence felt nationally (SUPATHICK, DICE, Romeo Walker), as well as those who represent the fresh new wave of WA-bred music leaders (Siobhan Cotchin, Nectar). And as these artists continue to flourish in 2022, the Tone City Artist Development Program exists to bolster their efforts and elevate their artistry.

“Tone City Records is an independent record label designed to assist and develop emerging Australian artists. The Tone City AD program for 2022 will support in creating industry mentorship through the entirety of the artist’s project; including production, mixing, marketing, release schedule and event management.

TCR is like a family – it is built on the artists and myself having the same vision/ambitions and having a mutual connection both creatively and through personal and working relationships.”
Sam Ford, Tone City Records

The official launch of Tone City Records is set to be marked by a special live music event at the Freo Social on February 26th. Featuring live sets from the Tone City roster, as well as performances by fellow artists including Project Bexx, Ken Paolo, Claudie Joy and The Joyboys, King Blue and Banjo Lucia, the entire community is encouraged to come along and celebrate the opening of WA’s newest creative hub.

PRAISE FOR TONE CITY RECORDS

“I always love chatting about music with Sam. Everything from making it, to releasing it. He really gets it. Being in the studio with him is a dream too and always fun. Super excited to see where he takes his record label.”
Kevin Parker, Tame Impala

“Sam is one of the few producers I trust when I’m sharing my creative space. That’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to get the best out of your art.”
Ian Kenny, Birds of Tokyo

“Sam Ford is one of Australia’s greatest producers, his taste in music is unparalleled and his unwavering support for artists from all walks of life has consistently elevated the WA music scene. Tone City Records is a vibe and I’m digging it!”
Abbe May

“Extremely stoked for Mr. Ford to be launching his new record label. The man’s already a hero but now he’s assured his statue. It’s always a great pleasure to work with Sam, he’s been a pillar of the Perth music industry for many years. It’s a fantastic opportunity for every young or established band to work with such a brilliant producer, a tip-top gentleman with an amazing studio and an even finer tuned ear, I can’t wait to hear what the future sounds like.”
Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

“Sam has been the keystone in giving life to our ideas, allowing us to share them with the world. He has opened doors for us that we could not have on our own and in doing so, given us the optimism and drive to expand our horizons and look at a career in the arts.”

Mattiel share video for new single ‘Lighthouse’

MATTIEL
SHARE VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE
‘LIGHTHOUSE‘

NEW ALBUM GEORGIA GOTHIC
OUT MARCH 18 ON HEAVENLY RECORDINGS

Atlanta’s powerhouse rock’n’soulers Mattiel, made up of Mattiel Brown and Jonah Swilley, have today shared the video for ‘Lighthouse‘, the latest track from their third album, Georgia Gothic, which is released on Heavenly Recordings on Friday, March 18.

Talking about the video Brown said: “We hope ‘Lighthouse’ is a positive, uplifting song for anyone who hears it. If you’re working toward something and it feels like an uphill battle, that can be a sign that you’re headed in the right direction. And there’s always someone or something to help guide you through it.”

She added about the track: “A safe refuge in a storm, or a place to rest before you have to go back out into the waves again.”

Georgia Gothic, a magic third in Mattiel’s run of full-length albums, was shaped in the quiet seclusion of a woodland cabin in the north of the Atlanta duo’s mother-state; “Some faraway place that just Jonah and I could go where there would be no distractions, nothing else going on, and we could turn everything off and only focus on writing songs”, reflects Brown. Where 2017’s self-titled debut and its 2019 follow-up Satis Factory were written with what Swilley refers to as a “hands-off” approach — he arranging the music and Brown the lyrics and vocals, the two working largely separately — the making of Georgia Gothic was, for the first time, a truly collaborative undertaking. “This was the first time we made a point to just be together and work out ideas in the same room. That was the initial intention… it was about learning what each other wanted to accomplish on a sonic level, and then just trying different things out” Swilley continues. “Everything happened backwards. Normally, you’d have friends that make a band… with us, we started making music from the jump, and then became homies.”

Cultivated by time spent together on the road touring the first two albums, it is this newfound sense of intimacy between Mattiel’s members that enabled the writing of Georgia Gothic not as two separate musicians, but rather as one creative entity. The album remained within the four walls of Brown and Swilley’s private world for much of its evolution — with recording taking place in a simple studio set up by the pair in the borrowed room of a dialysis centre, Swilley in the producer’s seat — until, nearing completion, it was transferred into the trusted hands of the Grammy-award-winning John Congleton (whose extensive list of credits includes artists as diverse as Angel Olsen, Earl Sweatshirt, Erykah Badu and Sleater Kinney) for mixing.

Not only does the affinity between its creators translate into an electric synergy between Georgia Gothic’s words and music — the brine-shock of Brown’s taut lyricism cut against the bourbon-smoothness of Swilley’s instrumentation — but here too are the palpable spoils of experimentation, each party trustful enough of the other to trial and error their practices into new geometries. Swilley puts this wide palate, in part, down to the place they call home. “I definitely feel like being from Georgia allows us to have a certain way of approaching music”. Brown chimes in: “We haven’t really highlighted where we’re from in the past two records, even though those were also written in Georgia. There’s so much great art and great music that’s come from Georgia, from all different types of genres and all over the state — but take R. E. M. and OutKast: there’s this weirdness that I can’t really put my finger on.” Swilley concurs: “It’s the same with the B-52s, the Black Lips… it doesn’t feel like L.A., it doesn’t feel like New York, it feels like another planet. We’re not really in a ‘scene’ here in the same way. You have to make your own sound, create your own identity.”

And it is precisely the forging of Mattiel’s distinct musical identity that Georgia Gothic signals; its members guiding each other ever-homewards not just in a geographical or sonic sense, but spiritually, too.

The Portugal debut will be filled with house, techno, drum & bass, and disco and is set to be bigger and better than ever before. A brand new drum & bass stage is added on top of the house and techno stages which will be headlined by the likes of Adam Beyer, Alan Fitzpatrick, Charlotte de Witte, Chase & Status, DJ Tennis, Eric Prydz, Friction, Hybrid Minds & Tempza, Ida Engberg, Jamie Jones, Luciano, Maceo Plex, Marco Carola, Paul Kalkbrenner, Richie Hawtin, Shy FX, The Martinez Brothers and many more. PRE-REGISTER HERE
Secret Project Festival is an oasis of art, music, murals, and live graffiti that welcomes only the most cutting-edge artists whether pioneering legends or red hot new talents. A whole spectrum of underground electronic sound is always represented and, last year, the festival debuted to great acclaim in Europe with a sold out crowd of nearly 20,000 attendees during ADE. After that raw, industrial-tinged event, the festival now switches it up and heads south to Portugal for a more organic and sun-kissed affair on sweeping sandy beaches with dramatic limestone rock formations and stunning views of the ocean.

Taking advantage of Portugal’s long hot days and balmy nights, music will play across all three stages, on all three days, all night long. The sub-tropical setting will add an extra dimension to Secret Project, on top of its already famous production quality and mesmeric audio-visuals. As well as the unmatched soundtrack, festival-goers can look forward to exploring a rich array of local cultures and cuisines, beach sports, water activities, restaurants, and bars during their stay in this spectacular setting.

Musically, all bases are covered by a who’s who of international talent. For techno lovers, there will be an astonishing three-way back-to-back between Dubfire, Nicole Moudaber, and Paco Osuna. Adam Beyer presents his mighty Drumcode label with fellow techno titans Alan Fitzpatrick, Ida Engberg, ANNA, and Joel Mull, and pioneering minimal man Richie Hawtin also lines up. Elsewhere on the festival ground, new school talent Amelie Lens will shake things up, Ellum Audio boss Maceo Plex brings his astral sounds with label mate Raxon, while Swiss-Chilean maestro Luciano, Desolat label head Loco Dice and Ukrainian melodic innovators ARTBAT, Italian stylist Enrico Sanguiliano and globally acclaimed Eric Prydz cover all shades of techno.

Drum & bass legends Chase & Status head up the new stage this year, and there is plenty of house to look forward to. From cultured Italian and Life And Death boss DJ Tennis, Ibiza favorites Jamie Jones and Ilario Alicante, and a special back-to-back between Richy Ahmed and Archie Hamilton, to party-starting duo The Martinez Brothers, UK sensation Michael Bibi, Grammy-nominated pair Camelphat, and spaced-age selector Chris Stussy, as well as more from Pleasurekraft, Cirez D, and plenty of others.

With its tasteful cross-section of forward-thinking electronic sounds and stunning location, Secret Project Festival Portugal is a perfect reason to get away and party in paradise this summer.

Praise for Telenova

“It’s rare for a band to arrive with such a polished and defined aesthetic this early” – NME, ★★★★

“Telenova have made an impact pretty quickly.” – Richard Kingsmill, triple j

“This is stupidly good. A sophisticated and utterly mesmerizing second release from one of 2021’s best new acts” – Bridget Hustwaite, triple j (Tranquilize)

“‘Cinematic indie pop at its finest. It sounds at once nostalgic while thoroughly modern, and is sure to get stuck in your head from the very first listen.” – Purple Sneakers

“A majestic debut from a band in its infancy… Telenova’s universe is so well realised you’ll be leaving footsteps in the band’s saturated deserts the moment you step through their portal” – NME, ★★★★

“This song really did take me by surprise when I heard it for the first time on Friday and I thought YES, kicking off next week’s BREAKING with this….” – Matt Wilkinson, Apple Music 1 (Tranquilize)

“Enchanting, alluring and instantly stylish stuff…” – Declan Byrne, triple j (Bones)

“Armstrong’s voice soars confidently above lush, grooving production, making for a truly captivating first offering.” – NME

“…the trio bring together a lifetime of musical experience condensed into genre-combining brilliance, where their overlapping worlds come together to create striking moments of hazy alt-electronic-R&B-esque versatility.” – Pilerats

Following a breakout 2021, Melbourne three-piece Telenova step confidently into 2022 with the Blue Valentine Tour, bringing their enigmatic live show across the country in their largest venues yet. The tour caps off a milestone debut for the band, with the release of their acclaimed EP Tranquilize and its ubiquitous single ‘Bones‘, which landed in triple j’s Hottest 100 this past weekend.

Tranquilize captivated audiences with its sweeping, cinematic aesthetic, garnering strong support from media, streaming platforms and radio across the globe. Their rendition of Madonna’s ‘Hung Up‘ for triple j’s Like A Version quickly became a fan favourite and Telenova found support for singles ‘Bones‘ & ‘Tranquilize‘ from BBC6, KCRW, Vogue Paris and NME, to name a few. The band then quickly sold out their November national tour, including six shows in their Melbourne hometown.

Ending the year with the release of the ‘Bones‘ music video, a nostalgia-soaked vignette shot between Melbourne and LA, Telenova went on to cement themselves as future festival favourites with acclaimed appearances at Wildlands, Beyond The City and Loch Hart Festivals. Their success is further bolstered by an appearance in triple j’s Hottest 100, with ‘Bones’ placing #91 in their countdown debut.

The Blue Valentine Tour kicks off March 4th at Wooly Mammoth in Brisbane, followed by Melbourne’s The Corner, Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory, and Adelaide’s Jive.

Lucy Lorenne

by the partae January 25, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

Melbourne, Australia!

How did you first start playing music?

My earliest memory of playing music is when I sang Avril Lavigne to my class in  grade 1 and at the same age, singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow on every bush  walk with my family. Really though, my Dad bought me my first guitar when I was 11  and taught me how to play. Soon after, I was busking, playing piano and writing my  own songs (including my primary school graduation song haha)! I was also  introduced to open mics at the same time and that was my first experience of  getting up in front of a crowd.

What’s been happening recently?

Over the past year, we established the Lucy Lorenne band and sold out our debut  headline show at The Workers Club Fitzroy as well as played a bunch of other gigs  in Melbourne and Geelong! We’ve also been in the studio recording an EP which is  set to release this year.

You’re about to release your debut single ‘Geneva’ what influenced the sound  and songwriting?

Over the years, I’ve had a combination of singing teachers and mentors ranging  from blues and hip-hop artists to jazz and classical singers. I started my music  career in Jazz bands and Soul/Motown lineups which has had the biggest influence  on my vocal sound and vibe. As for the sound, I have taken the story-telling style  from the the country and folk music I grew up listening to and the instrumentation of  indie pop rock music I listen to currently.

How did you go about writing Geneva?

I first started writing ‘Geneva’ after leaving Switzerland to study in France. I was 17  at the time and incredibly excited to be in a foreign country and the ‘new kid at  school’. Needless to say there was a summer romance and the song came to life  shortly after! I didn’t have my guitar with me but to make me feel at home, my host  parents lent me a little acoustic guitar that I used to write the song. Then, I spent  the next two years refining the song and a made demo a year after that.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?

I recorded ‘Geneva’ with local producer Isaac Barter who recorded, mixed and  mastered the track! The band and I went to his cosy home studio to record and it

was our guitarist Gus’ birthday so we had cake and tea and it was super  wholesome!

How did you approach the recording process?

First, I bought my own recording equipment to produce a demo for the band, sent  them reference tracks to inspire them, rehearsed rehearsed rehearsed, notated a  lyric sheet to make sure I didn’t miss any of the vocal nuances and phrasing I  wanted to include and then made sure there was plenty of unhealthy snacks for the  big days in the studio!

Please tell us about your upcoming EP:

Suffice to say there’s some similarities with the style/instrumentation that Geneva  represents but also some significant differences! The 6-track EP is scheduled to  release Autumn 2022!

How did the band form?

The band is super special to me. I used to play with Gus Buchanan-Turnour (guitar/ backing vox), Josh Whitty (guitar) and Jay Rose-Ham (keys) during high school.  Jade McKentish joined us recently replacing Angus Sumner on bass and Immy  Owusu (drums) and I met while playing a jazz gig!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I’ve pretty much had Lianne La Havas’ album on repeat since it was released in  2020, I’m obsessed with her voice and the production on that record. I’m also  currently really into the new Melbourne band Telenova and their captivating debut  EP. Oh and who hasn’t turned off Taylor Swift’s version of Red since it was  released??

What do you like to do away from music?

A busy day in the life of me would begin with a morning yoga routine, followed by a  surf with Dad. I would either spend the day studying for university (I major in  Anthropology) or spending time with family and friends adventuring! My other  interests include learning languages (oui je parle français) and travelling (when life  is normal!)

What’s planned for 2022?

We intend to release another single in the coming months prior to the EP launch  mid Autumn. We are desperate to get back on stage as soon as monsieur omicron  takes a hike! And of course, the writing journey continues…

Favourite food and place to hangout?

If anyone knows me, they know that I’m the biggest chocoholic! And that my  favourite hang out spot is the beach or a really pretty botanic garden!

GLASS ANIMALS MAKE GOOD ON THEIR PROMISE FOLLOWING 2021 HOTTEST 100 WIN & GET AUSTRALIAN THEMED TATTOOS ON THEIR BACKSIDES

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES:

Thursday 14 July – HBF Stadium, Perth

Saturday 16 July – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (SOLD OUT)

Tuesday 19 July – John Cain Arena, Melbourne

TICKETS

After promising fans back in January 2021 that if ‘Heatwaves’ win the triple j Hottest 100 they would get Australia themed tattoos on their backsides, one year later they finally have done it with Dave (lead singer) getting an Australian map and Drew (guitarist) getting a koala.

“here’s the deal: heatwaves on top of the pile in @tripleJ hottest 100 = australia tattooed to each of our buttocks, not each cheek obvs. inked on us 4eva as a sign of our love for the greatest sporting country on earth. we are absolutely serious about this,” they wrote on social media last year.

“My mum is going to be livid,” lead singer Dave says in an Instagram video posted on Sunday.

It has been a year since the band promised to get the tattoos (which are the first for them both) and blame covid lockdowns for the delay. “sorry it took so long to get em done covid is a f**ker. X” Dave writes in an Instagram Post.

Glass Animals will be touring Australia later this year with the tour kicking off in Perth at HBF Stadium on Thursday 14 July, followed by Hordern Pavilion in Sydney and John Cain Arena in Melbourne.

Glass Animals are set to play their biggest shows in Australia yet. Having performed massive sell out shows across the USA and UK the ‘Dreamland’ tour is going to be a mind-bending live experience not to be missed.

‘Dreamland’ is the band’s third album and features the smash single ‘Heat Waves’ which most notably was crowned number 1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 – an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish. They’ve entered the triple j Hottest 100 for a second year consecutively coming in at #23 for their single “I Don’t Wanna Talk”.

‘Heat Waves’ held the No.1 spot on the ARIA Official Singles Chart in Australia for six consecutive weeks, marking the band’s first #1 single globally. The single has spent 51 weeks in the top 10 of ARIA chart, surpassing ‘Dance Monkey’s’ record for the most weeks in the top 10 in ARIA history. The accolades continue with ‘Heat Waves’ becoming the most streamed song in Australia in 2021 with over 110 million streams (2.4 billion globally) and hitting 8 x Platinum.

Grapevine Gathering 2022 Photo/Review

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

The Grapevine Gathering was in back in fine form at Rochford Wines in Victoria after an earlier cancellation in NSW. The festival drew thousands of eager people ready to party and soak up the summer vibes.

The festival was an absolute scorcher. In the 34 degree heat and searing sun,  Creature Fear played tracks from their EP and new tunes written during lockdown to an enthusiastic crowd. Melbourne locals Rest For the Wicked showcased their eclectic mix of electronica and indie pop.

Things heated up when The Veronicas hit the stage performing crowd anthems “Untouched” and “4ever”. Vera Blue had the crowd in the palm of her hand as she opened her 45 minute set with “Temper”, and included female favourite “Lady Powers”, “Settle”, and “Lie to Me”.

The sun was beginning to set and weather was cooling down when Jungle Giants hit the stage. But they keep the heat up. Festival goers were in full swing as the band performed 110% and celebrated their song “Love Signs”  hitting number 18 in the Triple J’s 2021 Hottest 100.

Peking Duk closed the festival with a blazing electronic set accompanied with plenty of pyro, confetti, streamers, and amazing visuals. They certainly set a standard for festival headliners!

DEAR SEATTLE REVEAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE ‘WAY OUT’ + ANNOUNCE RESCHEDULED WAY OUT NATIONAL TOUR DATES + TEASE 2022 ALBUM

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

Dear Seattle are bringing in 2022 with the reveal of a brand new music video for their latest single ‘Way Out’ today. Fresh from the track snagging a coveted full rotation add on triple j, the band perform their impassioned and memorable new cut set to the backdrop of a homely lounge room.

Speaking more on the video, Dear Seattle frontman Brae Fisher shares:

“We wanted to strip things right back to the core of Dear Seattle on this video. All we wanted was to play in a room together again. It’s something we’ve missed for so long, and to be able to come together again like that was special so we hope people can feel that with us.”

The Australian rock favourites are also announcing a slew of rescheduled dates for their NSW shows today.

“Despite having the tour pulled out from us a second time the week of, we haven’t let it dampen our spirits,” Brae adds. “If anything it’s made us more eager to blow the head off it when these shows finally happen.”

Marking the band’s first time playing a headline tour since selling out their 2019 Don’t Let Go album run, Dear Seattle will now play an extensive run of shows around the country throughout February and March. Full dates and ticket details below.

Crunchy and memorable, ‘Way Out’ finds Brae deep-diving into themes like codependency and resentment building in a relationship lacking honest communication and personal space. In the same vein as their 2021 ‘In My Head’ release, ‘Way Out’ finds the band heading in a more nuanced and mature musical direction, while still holding true to the classic Dear Seattle chant-along choruses and emotionally-charged storytelling heard on their previous releases.

On this note, Dear Seattle fans should stay closely tuned to the band’s socials as they soon prepare to announce details of their sophomore full-length album.

About Dear Seattle:
After snapping heads with their 2017 self-titled EP, (spawning tours with the likes of Tired Lion, Balance And Composure, Hockey Dad and Trophy Eyes, and festival slots on Groovin’ The Moo, UNIFY, Festival Of The Sun and Party In The Paddock), Dear Seattle asserted themselves as one of Australia’s most exciting young rock acts with the release of their 2019 debut full-length Don’t Let Go.Exploring the stress and challenge of being a full-time musician, anxiety (‘Bigger Than My Brain’), self-doubt (‘Daytime TV’), reckless living (‘Homegrown’), the fake nature of the music industry (‘Try’) and perhaps most searingly, the death of vocalist/guitarist/lyricist Brae’s father (‘I Keep Dreaming’), Don’t Let Go packed in poetic lyricism and plainspoken Australian storytelling, all peppered with an endearing dose of self-deprecation.

Offering a depth and dimension not too often found in their genre, Dear Seattle captured industry and audience hearts alike upon the album’s release in February 2019. Don’t Let Go garnered praise from the likes of Pilerats (“stellar”), The Music, (“hard not to fall in love with”), New Noise (“an immaculate effort”) and more, saw the band invited to play triple j’s lauded Like A Version segment, copped a nomination for Best Rock/Punk Album at the 2020 AIR Awards and spawned a huge headline Australian tour to celebrate. To date the record has also amassed close to 8 million streams.

Now with a few years and some more life behind them, plus a renewed focus to write completely for themselves, Dear Seattle have returned with ‘In My Head’ and ‘Way Out’ in 2021 and look to release more new music in the new year.

SOFIANE PAMART
SHARES DELICATE NEW SINGLE ‘ASIA‘

NEW ALBUM LETTER
OUT FEBRUARY 11 ON PLAY IT AGAIN SAM

French pianist Sofiane Pamart is redefining what it means to be a classical music star with his modern interpretation of piano music – becoming one the genre’s most-streamed artists in the process. Blowing away people’s perception that classical music is stuffy and elitist, he continues to tear up the rulebook with the release of his new single ‘ASIA’ taken from the upcoming album LETTER, due out February 11 on Play It Again Sam.

His music is intense and cinematographic, finding the balance between technical skills and raw emotions – connecting classical music to a new generation and sweeping away the elitist barriers in the process. The beautifully delicate new single ‘ASIA’ unveils the creative process behind the album which was written and recorded across six countries in Asia. The Guillaume Héritier directed video was shot throughout Sofiane’s extensive trip across the diverse landscapes of South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam. In the video we see Sofiane immersed in the architectural and cultural richness of a whole continent – seamlessly blending traditional with modern.

Heralded as the “New Face of Luxury” by the Paris Salon du Luxe, Sofiane is recognised for his style, combining the elegance of high-end fashion with his own interpretation of street style. Working regularly with prestigious maisons and brands such as Maison Cartier, C. Bechstein, Moncler, Chivas, Etudes Studio, Lacoste, Kappa, Ubisoft, Fila Europe, Polaroid and more, Pamart is a unique artist – a haute couture pianist with an appetite for street style and hip-hop.

Sofiane spent 16 years honing his craft while studying at the Conservatoire National de Lille where he graduated with a gold medal. Choosing to forge his own path – and get away from the route traditionally taken by classical artists – he has become French rap’s pianist of choice, collaborating with artists such as Maes, SCH, Vald, Koba LaD and many more. Along the way he has performed at some of the world’s most iconic locations, from becoming the first artist to perform a full show under the Northern Lights in Lapland to performing at the Louvre and at the Czech Royal Family’s castle in Prague.

2022 looks set to continue the stratospheric rise for this immensely talented artist.
