Yen Strange Releases ‘Bleeding From My Purple Lips’

NEW SINGLE ARRIVES WITH SELF-DIRECTED VISUALISER
SUPPORTING YOURS TRULY NATIONALLY IN DECEMBER

Liberation Records are today excited to share ‘Bleeding From My Purple Lips’, the latest single from Sydney-based artist Yen Strange. Following on from singles ‘Clueless in Suburbia’ and ‘Easy Way Out’, the latest single is accompanied by an alluring self-directed visualiser.

‘Bleeding From My Purple Lips’ is quintessentially Yen Strange – Brimming with grunge fuelled rhythms, reverbed guitar and bittersweet lyricism, Yen, alongside co-writer Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe, PNAU, Meg Mac, merci, mercy, G Flip), reflect in hindsight on a toxic relationship, crescendoing into an anthemic indie hit.

On the single, Yen details, ‘Stitches are in my mouth sometimes when I really like someone but they do things that are pretty bad for me. Something stops me from standing up for myself and walking away. I was feeling extremely insane over a situation with someone when I wrote this. Like I was not myself at all and I’d do anything for this person to give me attention’.

The vintage, camcorder style visualiser, directed and edited by Yen Strange, further highlights the single’s vulnerable and intimate depiction, mixing up close and personal footage with candid frames from film negatives.

With a string of popular singles to her name including debut ‘Donnie Darko’, ‘Go Away’ and a cover of Mallrat’s ‘Intro’, the Moruya-born, now Sydney-based singer-songwriter has won press support from the likes of Paper Magazine, Nylon, Ladygunn, The Forty-Five and NME. Her songs have received a huge 20 spins from BBC Radio 1 (with host Jack Saunders a big champion of her work), plus airplay across triple j, triple j Unearthed and community stations like FBi and Radio Adelaide. At DSPs, they’ve appeared on a range of playlists including Spotify’s New Music Friday, Front Left, Indie Pop, SALT and Pop n Fresh, and Apple Music’s New Music Daily, New In Pop, New In Alternative and Pop Chill. When The Horn Blows’ also highlighted Yen Strange on their ‘Ones To Watch’ list for 2022. The past year has seen Yen Strange play to thousands of people, completing support shows with Eliza & The Delusionals, merci, mercy and Hallie and about to embark on a 12-date national tour with ARIA winning pop-punk band, Yours Truly.
ABOUT YEN STRANGE

Growing up in small towns was a blessing and a curse for Yen. In an attempt to distance herself from cliques at school – where she struggled to fit in – she’d seek solace in the music room on her lunch breaks. She had fostered a serious interest in music from the age of seven, studying piano and honing her vocal skills by singing along to songs on the radio in her dad’s car. (Singing lessons didn’t work out; she didn’t want to sing the ‘proper way’.)

At the age of 16, Yen moved from her hometown of Moruya to the larger Wollongong and started playing in local bands, but found her walls crashing down as the aspirations of her bandmates never quite seemed to sync up to her own.  She began to hit roadblocks and experience spirals and depressive episodes, eventually hitting rock bottom and having a breakdown. Despite the hurdles though, Yen persisted and started to pen tracks that she could be proud of, on her own. She now lives in Sydney.

Bag Raiders today drop their latest release in a stream of new music, the shuffling ‘Letting Go‘. LISTEN HERE.

Shifting their impulses from shuffling, warped sample-led percussion as on their previously released ‘UR Heart’ and ‘Never Forget’, Bag Raider‘s latest release ‘Letting Go‘ is a pensive, fast-paced mantra. In this latest era, Chris and Jack‘s music is dedicated to the emotional ties of club spaces and dancefloors, serving today a single devoid of indulgent hubris, but instead, presenting a vessel and means for release.

Of their latest release, Jack shares, “This tune is about body feel, freeing the mind and submitting. On the dancefloor, in life, whenever. We can all use a bit of letting go.” Chris elaborates, “Letting Go is about liberation, sometimes we don’t allow ourselves to live the full potential of our experiences because we’re holding on to expectations or insecurities or other baggage that brings us down, and one of the best places to drop all of that is on the dancefloor.”

Following the success of their 2019 sophomore LP Horizons, Bag Raiders‘ recent stream of releases arrived in the wake of their newly minted label Broken Head Records, both of which accumulated international praise from BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, Danny Howard and Sarah Story, KISS FM UK’s Sam Divine, Ben Malone and TCTS, Apple Music 1 and triple j with the coveted Friday Mix.

Wider praise arrived from the likes of DJ Mag, EARMILK, Pilerats, EDM.com, and Stoney Roads, with a stack of streaming playlists including the Monster Dance cover and global DJ support from TOKiMONSTA, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, A-Trak, Fouk, Adana Twins, Dom Dolla, John Digweed, Eelke Kleijn and Oliver Heldens.

The project of Jack Glass and Chris Stracey, not many artists have had an immense effect on the youth of today quite like Bag Raiders. Whether that be sound-tracking many a sweaty night on a dancefloor, sing-a-longs at some of the biggest festivals in the world, or even becoming the anthem to one of the most iconic moments in the internet’s history, the electronic duo have done it all; and are ready for more.

Their place as stalwarts in the dance community for over a decade comes after releasing a slew of cult-favourite singles and signing to dance-powerhouse Modular Records, which saw the duo release their debut self-titled record in 2011. The record debuted at #7 on the ARIA Charts and snagged them a ‘Best Dance Release‘ nomination at that year’s ARIA Awards. A part of that record was the single ‘Shooting Stars‘ which has amassed over 4 billion streams online, clocked over 32 Platinum or Gold plaques worldwide and had a cultural impact beyond anyone’s expectations. Now their eyes are firmly set on the future.

‘Letting Go‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

Interview: Late November

by the partae October 28, 2022
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
We are based up in Townsville, North Queensland

How did Late November form?
We were all mates that were playing in the High School Jazz Band together, then we caught up outside of that to have a play, and the rest is history!

What’s been happening recently?
We’ve been super stoked with the reception on our newest track ‘Fishook’, and we are gearing up for the next few releases!

What or influenced the sound and songwriting on your latest single ‘Fishook’?
Retrospectively we’d say that it’s very Last Dinosaurs inspired, we didn’t really set out to write a song that took elements from anything, but we think we must have been really enjoying their sound and arrangement. As for the production, there is a bit of Bluejuice in some of the harmony lines, very Broken Leg-esque in parts of the song.

How did Fishook come about?
Alex, Aden, Denzel and Sam were all piled into Kodie’s car (a fresh p-plater at the time), and Alex had his guitar half out the window. ‘I’ve got something to show you boys’ he said, and by the time he was up to the second verse we were all sold on it.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
We originally recorded with Mark Myers up in Cairns, but we’d developed the song so much since that session that what we’d recorded there didn’t feel relevant to us anymore. We then re-recorded most of it in the Aitkenvale Library in Townsville, then sent the fresh stems off to Mason Rowley (Oh Forest Shore, Arches) to mix, then to Hayden Dunlop (Chelsea Drive) to master.

What do all of the 7 members do in the band?
We’ve got a jazz band in the making:
Alex Thomas (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar)
Aden Rock (Tenor Saxophone)
Kodie Redfern (Bass)
Samuela Naborisi (Drums)
Denzel Carlos (Lead Guitar)
Anthony Minehan (Alto Saxophone)
Kristopher Gounaris (Trumpet)

Outside of the instruments, Alex and Kodie do most of the writing for the core structure of the song, and Kodie is a member/manager of sorts, organising the branding, merchandise, and other logistics. Sam is a talented producer, and he makes the interludes we use for our live sets.

Please tell us about your upcoming Australian tour and possible dates for Japan:
We are itching for both of these! We are aiming to do between 7-10 shows mostly between Tokyo and Osaka in around March, and then we’ve got an Australian tour in our sights for late 2023, and we’re hoping to hit Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Townsville (of course) and Wollongong. We’re still ironing out logistics and costs for the Aus tour, but at this stage it’s looking promising!

How does being based in Townsville, QLD influence your music?
Townsville has fostered its fair share of original artists, and the music scene has been quite collaborative in nature. We feel that we wouldn’t have the sound we do now, if it wasn’t for seeing these local artists and being inspired. That inspiration naturally makes you look at what they’re doing in their music, and a little bit of that is bound to rub off on you.
To name a few super influential locals:
Colie
Sam Wright
Oh Forest Shore
The Broadcast Fiasco
Hidden Pillars
The Funny Jims
Chelsea Drive
Dogtooth
Lost for Ideas

Please tell us about the importance of the community and being a part of the growing Townsville community:
Watching bands like The Broadcast Fiasco (formerly Solarpets) play in Townsville at the Rec Room was formative for me (Kodie). As a teenager that was learning how to play guitar, this kind of thing struck a chord in me, and I knew instantly that I wanted to do what they were doing. Without these shows, I might never have experienced that feeling. Or I might have experienced it later in life when starting a band seemed too foreign a concept. Without this community and culture in Townsville, we will be missing out on generations of artists that haven’t had that ‘Aha!’ moment, and that’d be a real shame. Multiple people from Brisbane have said to us ‘there must be something in the water in Townsville’ and we think that’s just the community and culture raising well rounded, and collaborative artists.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Our top 5 at the moment are:
Sunbleached
Bryce Bishop
Pinegrove
Fontaines D.C.
Turnstile

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?
We’ve got an AirBnB booked in Lucinda for the first week of November, and we are all going to get together and make as much as we can. We’ve got so much in the pipeline, and we can’t wait to share it all!

Helsloot

written by the partae
Where are you based at the moment?

Ally aka Almere, The Netherlands

What music have you listened to today?

Stellar Drifting by George Fitzgerald. It’s a great album. And a lot of afrobeats like Burna Boy – Plenty and 1da Banton – No Wahala.

Your new release ‘Amora’ features Tom Zeta. Did you enjoy working together?

I did. He invited me into his studio in Utrecht at the time after sliding into his DM, because I’m a big fan of his sound. He offered me some coffee and krentenbollen, I was sold.

What was your workflow?

For ‘Bravoure’ we started jamming a bit. We both found out our productions are always very rhythm based. He is a skilled drummer and a intuitive producer so he started recording some hihats and home-brew shakers. I started looking for a bass rhythm that was slightly off the grid. We talked a bit about our mutual love for G Funk and started looking for synths to see if we could mix these genres together.

‘Amora’ started by this melodic break he played me. I had some ideas for the structure and the drop and we started to jam. He had a Poly Brute so I was playing around with it and laid down the bass and some synth plucks for the drop. It all happened quite fast as we only needed 3 sessions to complete the ideas for both tracks.

We went a bit back and forth on Whatsapp and finished the tracks quite fast.

What is your favourite piece of equipment?

The Specular Tempus. It’s a pedal effect that combines delay / reverb / granular effects. I’ve routed it to my Juno 106 which create this atmosphere that always seems to hit the spot.

What is your favourite track from this EP?

I had coffee with Tom yesterday where we found out we both have a different fav. He is all about Bravoure where I always like to play Amora just a little bit more.

How was your Summer?

I had a love / hate relationship with my studio as my airconditioning broke down. And I had some great gigs in The Netherlands, London and Istanbul.

Got any exciting gigs coming up this autumn?

Yes I’m heading to Sao Paulo in December where I get to play at Laroc. And I’m the support act of Bob Moses’s show at Melkweg, Amsterdam.

What DJ’s are you really digging right now?

Black Circle and Martin Waslewski.

What have you got planned for 2023?

I’m actually planning to work on an album.

CANADIAN COUNTRY SONGSTRESS JUSTINE BLANCHET EXAMINES EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE ROMANTIC CONQUESTS WITH “HARD TO LOVE” MUSIC VIDEO

by the partae October 27, 2022
written by the partae

Montreal, Quebec, Canada, October 26th, 2022 – Canadian country artist Justine Blanchet is celebrating the official music video for her current single, “Hard to Love”, which has garnered over 140k views on YouTube since its release in September.

“Hard to Love” – Official Music Video: youtube.com/watch?v=5rgqf1HE_98

“Hard to Love” is the first collaboration between Blanchet and hitmaking Nashville producer Danick Dupelle (Emerson Drive, Tebey, Tyler Joe Miller, Matt Lang). Written by a trio of first-rate country songwriters – Courtney Cole, Derrick Southerland, and Kelly Archer, “Hard to Love” offers an inviting country flavour with flourishes of modern pop in its honest examination of love that feels just out of reach.

In speaking about the video, Blanchet says, “To capture the message of this song, we wanted to dive into the dynamics of relationships with emotionally unavailable partners. Our central symbol is a poker game that shows how true intentions and feelings can remain hidden, even from people we think we know and want to love.”

“Hard to Love” is the latest highlight for the Montreal native, who regularly releases her music in English and French. With eight previous singles – including 2019’s “Strong” (over 175K streams on Spotify) and 2021’s “Get Out of the Mud” (#4 on CBC Country/Sirius XM) – and live show highlights like the Festival Country Lotbinière, the Gatlingburg Songwriter’s Festival, Big Valley Jamboree, the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, and a pair of Diamonds in the Rough showcases during Canadian Country Music Week, Blanchet is poised for the next wave of her rising and uniquely cultured country music adventure.

As Blanchet divides her time between Canada and Nashville, “Hard to Love” represents the best of both worlds. Blanchette recorded the vocals in Canada, while the song was produced in Music City (a first for her), as was the music video. “Hard to Love” also serves as the first release from her debut EP, set for release in 2023. Between now and then, she wants audiences to not be too hard on themselves when they encounter someone who is hard to love.

She says, “I want listeners to remember that no matter how much you love someone, you cannot make them love you back. But that’s okay. You shouldn’t have to. It’s better to know your worth and find someone who recognizes that. Your patience will be rewarded with love that is honest and more fulfilling.”

Justine Blanchet is currently in Nashville working to complete her EP.

The “Hard to Love” music video is currently available on YouTube.

FUTURE ISLANDS Announce 2023 Australia + New Zealand tour

by the partae October 27, 2022
written by the partae

Handsome Tours and Secret Sounds are thrilled to announce the return of indie icons Future Islands for their first shows in Australia and New Zealand since 2017! The Baltimore quartet of Gerrit Welmers, Michael Lowry, Samuel T. Herring and William Cashion will be performing songs from their latest album, As Long As You Are alongside favourites from across their career this coming February.

The band will kick things off in Perth playing The Rechabite, before heading to Powerhouse in Brisbane and Forum in Melbourne, followed by a trip across the pond to play Auckland’s Powerstation. Additionally, Future Islands will be playing New Zealand Festivals Splore and Electric Avenue, plus a very special Sydney show, with more details to come….

As Long As You Are looks to the past as well as the future, confronting old ghosts and embracing a new hope. It is an album about trust, full of honesty, redemption and “letting go”, allowing old wounds to heal and bringing painful chapters to a close. Signalling a new era for Future Islands, touring drummer Mike Lowry officially joined as a fully-fledged member and songwriter bolstering the founding trio of William Cashion, Samuel T. Herring and Gerrit Welmers. Given time to allow the songs to slowly come to life, these eleven new songs of post wave synth-pop are as euphoric and uninhibitedly joyful as anything the band has done in their 14-year career.

Tickets for the headline dates will go on general sale Thursday 3 November at 10am local time. Eager fans can gain access to early tickets by signing up to the promoter pre-sale here: https://bit.ly/fi23_ht

Praise for As Long As You Are

WET DENIM release their supercharged dynamic new track ‘FREE’

by the partae October 27, 2022
written by the partae

Wellington indie-rock quartet Wet Denim have returned today with their supercharged sophomore  single ‘Free’. The new track is layered with brightness, sheening with its slickness that somehow manages to intertwine the jagged guitar line at the same time as the punchy drum moments. The song’s theme borrows from Nick’s experience of feeling socially isolated from loved ones.

“The lyrics talk about a time when I was feeling very secluded from the people around me both mentally and physically. I had just come out of a very short but intense relationship paired with having a tough time with glandular fever so was spending a lot of time alone”. Nick Goodwin, (guitar and vocals) Wet Denim

Wet Denim are one of the most compelling new bands to emerge from New Zealand’s fertile musical landscape in recent years. Recording ‘Free’ in their hometown of Wellington, it was produced by the band with additional support from multi platinum selling group, Drax Project with mixing by Neil MacLeod and mastering by multi-award winning engineer Chris Chetland (Dua Lipa, Snoop Dogg, Joel Little/Lorde).

This song really brought us together as a band just over a year ago now. Free is actually the first song we wrote together. Joe came to the first ever Wet Denim jam with the instrumental demo of Free on a logic session. We all sussed out our individual parts and the chemistry began to flow from there”.

Wet Denim

Wet Denim are singer and guitarist Nick Goodwin, Luca Crampton on guitar, synths and keys with brothers Jack and Joe Ledword on the drums and bass. Since their move to the capital in a year of record rainfall, the band have quickly established themselves as the band to watch on Wellington’s live scene. With one only single under their belt they have achieved what many bands could dream about by selling out two headline shows in Wellington, securing student and alternative radio support across New Zealand and collaborating on writing and production of the forthcoming EP with members of multi platinum group Drax Project.

Their guitar-driven sound whilst incorporating pop melodies will no doubt be front and centre for their forthcoming EP.

Lahgo: Shallow Hellos (Premiere)

by the partae October 26, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

The sandy shores of Bondi Beach baby.

How did you first start playing music?

Each member found their love for music through different avenues, which we think makes the journey unique and exciting for the listener as you’ll begin to hear different experiences and memories captured in each song.

What’s been happening recently?

A healthy combination of recording, gigging and writing. We’ve headlined some sick shows this year (including a sellout at the Lansdowne), and we’ve polished off two EPs in the process, released our first single and shot 2 film clips. It’s been quite hectic.

Your latest single ‘Shallow Hellos’ will be out on the 27th of October, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Shallow Hellos was a lockdown baby. Sonically, and maybe unintentionally, we leaned into a dark and moody twist on the classic indie sound which was quite reflective of what was happening around us. Although the core themes of the song are of isolation and alienation, the track finishes big with an energetic chorus which was kind of fitting, looking into an optimistic lockdown-free future.

How did you go about writing Shallow Hellos?

The opening riff was something Aron had in the bank for a long time. He took it to the band and it all came together real quick. Lee and Adam brought in that driving groove you hear in the second verse which left Mel’s vocals to shine flawlessly on-top. Very much a collaboration which is why we think it sounds so good.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

We recorded the song at Parliament Studios in Annandale. Our longtime friend, producer, workhorse, shaman-in-sound and baby daddy Luke Payne produced it. He’s been with us since the start and he’s seen us hone our craft. He might tell you differently, but this was one of the smoother, funner recordings from our first EP.

Matt Fioravanti did the mixing and mastering. He’s a wizard. No two ways about it. He brought the track to life in ways we didn’t think possible.

How did you approach the recording process?

Initially, like a bull in an antiques store. We used to try and hustle a full track over a single weekend. By the time we got Shallow Hellos our process had improved a lot. We wrote it, demo’d it, drilled it, gigged it, and then recorded it amongst a batch of other tracks. So when you take the whole timeline into account, it was a matter of months.

Please tell us about how the concept for the music video came about and who did you work with?

We had worked with a great photographer Nick Gascione in a past photoshoot. He’s a true Aussie legend with a ‘straight-up’ way of doing things. He came around and we just smashed through the concept. We wanted to lean into the dark themes of the track and a real feeling of isolation/ fighting with one’s own inner thoughts. Next thing we were in his studio with Mel running on a treadmill all day. Max then took all the raw footage and edited it for 2 days straight and now we all can’t stop watching it. If you pay close attention, you’ll see Mel staring at 6 copies of herself at once haha.

You have an EP on the way, what can we expect?

You can expect the beginnings of band experimenting with finding an original sound. There’s just so many layers in each of the tracks. We’re so grateful to our producer Luke Payne who doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘no’. Not once did he say, “nah that won’t work”. It was always like “yeh! Lets try that absolutely ridiculous idea.” We’re all super proud of it and it’s a real testament to our quest for originality. We look back fondly on all the laughs, cries, fights and late night Macca’s meals that went into making this beauty.

Any upcoming shows?

Ofcourse! We’re headlining a free show at the Royal in Bondi on Thursday the 10th of November. There’ll be plenty more too. Best to stay up to date with us on IG @lahgo_.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Who aren’t we listening to? Such a diverse range of artists. From late 60’s Beatles records to 80’s Japanese disco-pop, 90’s boom bap, hard rock’n’roll, 2022 neo-soul, indie pop and everything current. If it’s good, we’re listening.

What do you like to do away from music?

We’re all into different sorta stuff, you know? Az loves his golf. Adam loves skiing, When she’s not spending time with her cats, Mel gets into nature walks. Lee loves his painting, Max digs on film-making.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

One of our rituals is to hit Fish Shop after a long session on a Saturday. If you haven’t had an O.G fish burger, stick it at the top of your bucket list. Also the Royal Hotel Bondi. It’s basic, but you just can’t beat a schooner and some Totti’s woodfired bread.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?

We’ve booked some time in a secluded house in the middle of no-where. We want to get away from the rat race for a minute to continue writing our next body of work. Then it’s a tour early next year and mid-late 2023 hitting festival season hard like a fly on a freshly laid doggy-doo-doo. 2023 is gonna be huge and we just can’t wait.

Armand Hammer bring their strikingly unique and eclectic style to Australia for the first time in March, presented by Astral People & Handsome Tours. The incendiary combination of New York rappers Billy Woods and Elucid is untouchable: both artists having released acclaimed and forward-thinking solo albums this year alone, still coming together as a sum greater than its parts.

Few rap duos achieve what Armand Hammer achieve, boasting a legendary back catalog that provides a vivid cross section of each moment in underground hip-hop over the last decade. Collaborating regularly with artists such as Earl Sweatshirt, Pink Siifu, Quelle Chris, Moor Mother and R.A.P Ferreira, the duo have the taste of curators and the touch of true artists. On 2021’s seminal Haram, Armand Hammer join forces with a single producer on a record for the first time: no one better to challenge the unchallengeable than the legendary The Alchemist. The record sees all three artists embark upon uncharted territory, with Woods and Elucid entering more outlandish regions of storytelling and world-building, stirring pristine imagery and finding pockets in the increasingly eclectic production of The Alchemist.

Elucid and Billy Woods are fresh from solo ventures, with Elucid’s I Told Bessie and Woods’ Aethiopes and Church adding to their indelible catalog and solidifying both rapper’s legendary status with their incomparable output. Both artists feature extensively on the other’s record, making clear the sentiment of Armand Hammer exists wherever each rapper ventures into next.

Haram, and all other Armand Hammer albums, are there to be explored like a living museum. Their live show reveals more, and places you within their remote world like no listening experience can.

There is nothing on the landscape like Armand Hammer: missing this shows would be a disservice.

While the road has been far from easy for Alpha Wolf and they refuse to let anything stand in their way. Throughout the chaotic and turbulent times they find themselves, the band released their sophomore album ‘a quiet place to die’ to critical acclaim including a #6 spot on the ARIA charts and a nomination for Best Heavy Album at the ARIA awards. Selling out multiple sold out runs around Australia, two European runs under their belt, the band have just returned home from a huge North American run as direct support to ERRA and performing in Europe with Polaris on their headline run. In August, the band released a split EP with UK’s Holding Absence.

Today, Trinidad-born, Eora-based artist Gold Fang shares his new single and video ‘Big Natty Rasta’, out now via Nina Las Vegas’ imprint NLV Records. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE.

Produced by Naarm-based producer Swick, whose recent credits include M.I.A’s MATA, ‘Big Natty Rasta’ is a free-flowing and energised number that sees Gold Fang further fasten his versatility as an artist, seamlessly adapting as the beat transforms. The track boasts a powerful arrangement between Swick and Gold Fang, one that is high in energy, unique in production, and infectious in rhyme.

Alongside a video directed by frequent collaborators The Sesh, the release of ‘Big Natty Rasta’ is an authentic addition to Fang’s expansive musical palette, with a firm nod to the experience of his Trinidadian roots. Gold Fang shares “They had this thing back in the days where even in my country, you had to have certain hairstyles or else you get sent home, or the teachers would say something about it. Big Natty Rasta is about going against the grain – people look at Rastas as rebellious, and I think it is rebellious. It’s not you trying to be the clean-cut person, it’s about you embracing who you are – embracing growth and authenticity. Big Natty Rasta is about eating a whole heap of pasta and causing disasters.”

His steady stream of releases including the free-flowing ‘Wet‘, ‘Light It’ and ‘Make It Snow ft. Dante Knows’ as well as his commission for the McDonald’s U.S. biennial global conference ‘Matter To Me’ and collaboration with rapper Big Skeez on their anthemic single ‘Where Yuh From’, helmed Fang’s artistry to new heights – high rotation from triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio and SYN FM, RAGE and MTV alongside praise from Complex Australia for his “wild and charismatic flows”, “head-bop-inducing percussion of dancehall” by Acclaim Magazine and “ferociously delivered bars” by Purple Sneakers amongst others.

Coupled with a blockbuster appearance at BIGSOUND, Gold Fang continues to cement his place at the forefront of local tastemakers and so-called Australia’s thriving Afro-Caribbean creative community: be it kicking off the year as triple j Unearthed‘s Feature Artist, a Semi-Finalist in Acclaim Magazine’s All-Stars as well as one of Red Bull’s 2022’s Australian Rappers to Watch, his commission for the McDonald’s U.S. biennial global conference ‘Matter To Me’ and his explosive freestyle for Red Bull’s 64 Bars alongside his sync involvement with Champion for their ‘Collegiate’ campaign and with JD Sports modelling for the new Adidas Trefoil line, Gold Fang proves no matter what lane, he keeps on winning.

EMERSON LEIF SHARES LEAD TRACK ‘MORE OR LESS’ FROM EP ‘GOOD SHOT’ OUT FRIDAY

by the partae October 26, 2022
written by the partae
“Emerson Leif has that kind of voice that’ll make you pause, take a breath and exhale a deeply felt “bruh”. Take this moment and keep it for yourself.” – Dave Ruby Howe, triple j

“Emerson Leif is only going up from here.” – Jackson Langford, Purple Sneakers

“Can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to Emerson’s songs in my quieter moments… he writes special, personal records that are begging to be listened to on a great set of headphones with a head full of uncertainties.” – Tommy Faith, triple j

Meanjin-based alt-pop artist, Emerson Leif, drops the final lead track ‘More or Less’ from his EP Good Shot today, closely followed behind by the full EP release on Friday.

‘More Or Less’ brings R&B soul and alt-pop energy, sharing the acceptance and acknowledgment of being alone and completely okay with it, and comes after melodic dream, ‘Fine’, mesmerising ‘Blood’, and introspective title track ‘Good Shot’.

Good Shot EP, out Oct 28, is a solo affair, and features six tracks documenting Emerson’s journey over the past year – his triumphs, struggles, fears, and brushes with defiance, forgiveness and gratefulness. He says “Good Shot (EP) is a message of hope – when the odds are against you but you know you will make it through eventually. You can heal and change and grow.”

Emerson Leif has remained an impressive figure and playlist regular, with ‘Fine’ scoring double j rotation and triple j Unearthed Top 5 Songs of the Week. All of the releases from his EP so far have been added to multiple Spotify editorial playlists, including New Music Friday AU & NZ, New Music Friday U.S.A and All New Indie, as well as Apple’s Flow State and Today’s Chill. His debut single ‘Hesitate’ has amassed above 29 million streams on Spotify alone and he has collaborated with the likes of RAC, Golden Vessel, Malrat and Muto.

‘More or Less’ is out now, with EP Good Shot out this Fri, Oct 28.
