INTRODUCING MORGUES LATEST BROTH RECORDS SIGNING SHARE ‘OUTER SPACE’

by the partae January 19, 2022

Today Broth Records are elated to announce their latest label signing, Eora / Sydney bedroom pop duo Morgues, who share their latest release ‘Outer Space‘. LISTEN + WATCH HERE.

The duo of Celeste Dao (she/her) and Cath Connell (she/they), Morgues banded together as internet friends first, photographers second, motivated to form a music group. Drawn to Cath’s demos most, Celeste proposed they work together as a two-piece, and over a three year gestation period and instrumental changes, Morgues arrive today fully realised. “One of our first direct message exchanges was about photos we took at a Gang Of Youths show,” reveals Cath.

A serendipitous surprise to Joji Malani, founder and director of Broth Records, whose discovery of the band was just as coincidental. He shares “I was on set for the first shoot we did for Coconut Cream and the photographer was playing some music to get everyone into the mood and ‘2006’ by Morgues came on. I asked them a million questions about the band and just felt really connected to this song. I reached out to them via instagram and we met up for dumplings and the rest is history.”

He contines, “I had a little celebration when Broth officially launched and invited the acts I had signed at that point and Cath met Oscar from Coconut Cream. I didn’t get to speak with them that night but they had a great conversation and decided to record a song with Oscar. Hearing about it later was like a full-circle moment – I found Morgues via this Coconut Cream shoot and now one of the members of Coconut Cream was gonna record with Morgues. This is what I always wanted for Broth, to create a community where people can interact, collaborate or work with each other on different projects while maintaining a strong community ethos. It’s so valuable post-pandemic.”

For Morgues, music is an extension of their mutual passion for photography and design, inspired by and driven to build atmospheric spheres of their own, both tangible and tactile, visually and aurally. This music manifests in deceptively detailed walls of sound – misty shoegaze cross-pollinated with the DIY instincts of bedroom pop, a sound Hatchie and Alvvays alike. Cath continues, “I don’t have that much life experience so most of my songs come from characters that I read about and immerse myself in, or sometimes a story I’ve come up with myself. I think Celeste is better at the actual music stuff, she can come up with the chord progressions while I’m the one with a whole book worth of lyrics, so often I’ll send her a bunch of random lyrics and she can arrange them into something cooler.”

This is the universe Morgues debut with ‘Outer Space‘, shifting visually between animated galactic sketches, jangly Super 8 film and scenes of 1950’s film and television programs atop webcam footage of each other. Of the song, Celeste explains “Outer Space is a love song for anxiety, space and dogs. Cath started writing this song at the very beginning of Morgues while thinking about the things she would like to do but struggles with due to anxiety, such as being in a relationship and going to unfamiliar places.” Cath elaborates, “It’s like an argument with myself of ‘I want to do these things, I want to fall in love and go to space!’ but ‘I really love the familiarity of where I am right now, even if it means I’m missing out on doing the things I want to do’” Roll up for the magical Morgues tour, stay tuned for more.

‘Outer Space‘ is out now via Broth Records, buy/stream it here.

“Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.” Frank Zappa

Dear Adelaide,

While SA and most of Australia is currently in the midst of some very trying times, we are optimistic for calmer seas on the other side of this current wave.

We believe that Frank Zappa (RIP) was 100% on the money and it is in this spirit that we are forging ahead and announcing the lineup for Spin Off 2022.

Australia is fortunate to have incredible talent both on stage and behind it. Our live music industry simply must keep moving forward and planning for the future to survive. So here goes….

Your fave Adelaide music festival is once again set to bring a selection of Splendour 2022’s most popular players and a dream team of Australia’s finest to Adelaide Showgrounds on Friday 22 July! Get ready to party along with…

GLASS ANIMALS · JACK HARLOW · SPACEY JANE · BALL PARK MUSIC ·
G FLIP · OLIVER TREE · TATE MCRAE · GENESIS OWUSU · THE CHATS ·
BEDDY RAYS · TEENAGE JOANS

Glass Animals delivered one of the biggest tracks of 2021 with their hypnotic triple j Hottest 100 #1 hit ‘Heat Waves’ and it has kept burning ever since! Reaching number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after a record breaking 51 weeks the track is currently sitting at over a billion Spotify streams and has also earned Glass Animals a Grammy nomination. Fans will finally get to sing along live at Spin Off!

Freo four-piece Spacey Jane gave us the #2 track on last year’s triple j Hottest 100, the mellow soundtrack to summer ‘Booster Seat’. These certified local legends also recently picked up a Song Of The Year ARIA award and are set to tour NZ, the UK and Europe before they hit the stage at Spin Off.

In 2021, Jack Harlow found himself on top of the world with a sold-out national tour and one of the biggest songs globally ‘Industry Baby’ with Lil Nas X. The track reached #1 on Spotify in the US and #2 globally as well as #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. But if you ask the artist how he feels, his only response is “I’m not done yet.” No he’s not. He has Spin Off on his “to do” list!

From comedy to action sports, mock reality TV drama to WWF wrestling in his live shows, the world of Oliver Tree is unlike any artist who has come before him. Versatile in every sense of the word, Tree not only explores every type of entertainment but also every type of genre in his music, most recently recruiting rappers Trippie Redd and Ski Mask The Slump Got for a rework of his viral smash hit ‘Life Goes On’ with accompanying video featuring Diplo.

With 1.8 billion streams and nearly 500 million YouTube views up her sleeve, Canadian pop songstress Tate McRae is ready to play her first ever Australian show at Spin Off! The youngest musician on Forbes 30 Under 30 List for 2021, Tate mixes her outstanding vocal ability with her unparalleled dance moves to create a performance that has wowed audiences at MTV’s European Music Awards, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the VMA Pre-Show – now it’s the city of churches turn to witness her star power.

2021 was a huge year for Genesis Owusu, his debut body of work, Smiling With No Teeth arrived as an artistic triumph and has resonated with audiences globally, surpassing genre and disrupting boundaries along the way. Smiling With No Teeth received four ARIA Awards including the coveted Album of the Year, triple j’s J Award for Album of the Year and Music Video of the Year J Award alongside his close collaborator, Riley Blakeway for ‘The Other Black Dog’.

Luciano, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Todd Edwards and more to feature

The dust has barely settled on an epic New Year’s Eve party but Studio 338 is already back with an irresistible run of parties in the first part of 2022. The Space Opening Fiesta is always a memorable night in the calendar. This year it happens on Saturday 12th February and again all the stops will be pulled out to make sure it goes down with plenty of the seminal club’s Ibiza colour, spirit and hedonism. So far house legend (and one half of Deepdish) Sharam will lead the dance with Sir Norman Jay… with more to be announced next week

A week after on Saturday 19th February, Desolat label boss Loco Dice is back at the club for Seran Bendecidos and another of his chunky crossover sets where house and techno meet in perfect harmony, welcoming high-energy Manchester trio Mason Collective to play alongside him. Studio 338 regulars Sankeys will also return for an Opening Rave that is sure to blow the roof off. LISTEN TO ‘HI-VIS BABY’ HERE
PRE-ORDER DEBUT ALBUM LOVE BOREDOM BICYCLES HERE

New Zealand’s Bakers Eddy today drop their new single ‘Hi-Vis Baby’ ahead of the release of their debut album Love Boredom Bicycles out 25th March 2022. An ode to singer Ciarann Babbington’s bike riding lifestyle, ‘Hi-Vis Baby’ is a tightly-wound, sharply written, highspeed blast of nostalgia-laced indie rock.

Speaking on the new single, singer Ciarann said: “The song’s just about riding my bike. Unfortunately it’s not metaphorical, I just really like riding my bike and I hate it when dickheads in 4×4’s [“If you’re in a four wheel drive, You can fuck off”] cut you off and run you off the road. The words were originally supposed to be placeholders but after we demo’d the song I started listening to it while riding and it felt badass so we kept them in.”

The band went on to say: “We really tried to pull some nostalgic energy into the song, particularly in the chorus. We were influenced by bands like Joy Division and Pixies who are masters at weird melancholic gut-turning nostalgia – but we added a really chaotic surfy beat. We also channelled the Beach Boys with the backing vocals, which I had to record on my hands and knees to hit, it’s so high.”

‘Hi-Vis Baby’ is another taste of band’s upcoming debut album Love Boredom Bicycles. Produced by Holy Holy’s Oscar Dawson, Bakers Eddy capture the exuberant spirit of youth, with good times coursing through its veins. Everything sounds effortless for singer Ciarann Babbington and his bandmates: twin brothers, guitarist Alex and bassist Ian Spagnolo, and drummer Jamie Gordon. Living together in sharehouse in Melbourne, Bakers Eddy’s music is bursting with youthful energy, swagger, a bucket load of hooks and an irresistibly charming sense of humour.

Having been a band since they were 12-year-old kids in Wellington, and now 12 years later all living together having moved to Melbourne, they couldn’t be tighter friends. It’s a closeness they like to bring with them into the studio. Literally. “We’re all in the same room when we’re recording. Like when Jamie’s recording drums, we squeeze in tight around him, in this giant room we’re all in nice and tight and I’m running around Jamie, and just like causing havoc and then we make a point to yell random shit,” says Ciarann. “For this record music came second and bullshit came first,” jokes Ian.

It was all about creating an environment where energy and spirits are high. “Even when we were recording guitar and bass,” says Alex, “we’d all be standing up and hopping along and shit like that, not just sitting there, trying to get everything perfect.” For the band it was about vibe over everything. “We made a point of making it sound more like the demos, cos when the demos were recorded at home we were often having a bit of a party,” says Ciarann. “It’s like, let’s be loud and have some fun.”

Simple Plan Provides Comfort Through Music In New Video ‘The Antidote’

by the partae January 18, 2022
written by the partae

On the new song, the band shared: “A lot of people are going through some tough times right now and the song talks about the importance of having someone or something to turn to when life gets really hard. For a lot of our fans and for us, it’s been music. Its power to heal, comfort, and be a lifeline has never been greater and more needed than now.

We wanted the music video to convey the same symbolic message: that music could be ‘The Antidote,’ the one thing that makes everyone feel less alone and brings us together. It was an amazing experience working with our friend and director Jensen Noen to try and tell that story and we’re really proud of the result. We hope our fans enjoy it too.”

“We wrote and recorded the song before the pandemic hit,” say the four guys in the band about the first single, “and in lots of ways it has become even more relevant after everything that happened over the last 20 months. A lot of people are going through some tough times right now and the song talks about the importance of having someone or something to turn to when life gets really hard. For a lot of our fans and for us, it’s been music. Its power to heal, comfort and be a lifeline has never been greater and more needed than now”.

Simple Plan have remained an international sensation for over 20 years with worldwide sales topping 10 million and over 1 billion streams across all streaming platforms! 2022 also marks the 20th anniversary of Simple Plan’s debut album No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls, which has recently gained attention on TikTok through the viral I’m Just A Kid challenge. The song has inspired millions of videos, including Will Smith, Ed Sheeran, Usher, and more. I’m Just A Kid was certified RIAA Platinum in 2020.

The #ImJustAKid trend on Tik Tok has over 4.3 billion views and the #ImJustAKidChallenge hashtag has over 590.9 million views and counting. Plus, they’ve received numerous awards and accolades the world over, and to date they have performed for insatiable audiences in over 60 countries. Their global numbers are astounding:

Facebook: 8.5 million followers,
Twitter: 1 million followers
Instagram: 450k followers
YouTube: 1.3 million subscribers/616,324,726 total view
TikTok: 600k followers/3.6 million likes.

Apple: 197 million total streams
Shazam: 6.6 million Shazams

Live music accessibility advocates, Tibi Access, announce all-accessible Melbourne gig Groove Tunes featuring The Grogans, Matilda Pearl, Irene Zhong, Saint Ergo and more!

by the partae January 17, 2022
written by the partae

Melbourne based independent accessibility consultancy Tibi Access are thrilled to announce the arrival of their inclusive event, Groove Tunes in 2022. Taking place Saturday 19 March live from The Corner Hotel, the first instalment of Groove Tunes’ prospective annual event series will present a fun and accessible night of entertainment, highlighting the creativity and inclusivity of the disability community, while creating awareness to excel standards of accessibility in the music industry. The inaugural Groove Tunes lineup will be headlined by surf-rock trio The Grogans and Mermaid-meets-disco-ball rising star, Matilda Pearl with support from artists living with a disability Irene Zhong, Edward Roussac and Saint Ergo.

Tibi Access founder and Groove Tunes event manager, Dina Bassile is a passionate advocate for inclusivity and accessibility in the music industry. As a person who uses a wheelchair, Dina has lived experience of the Australian music industry’s gaps in accessibility, and created Tibi as a necessary means to change the landscape of live music, events and venues for the better. At the core of Tibi is a spirit of inclusivity and a will to open up gigs and events of all sizes to everyone. Tibi does this by recognising and removing barriers faced by people with disabilities.

1 in 5 people in Australia are living with a disability, though according to the Australian Festival Association, 64% of Australian festivals do not publicly list their access information. It’s because of stats such as this that Tibi is on a mission through Groove Tunes to bring the joy of music to the disability community, while also increasing awareness of the need for events to be more accessible. Through a survey Tibi conducted in 2018, people living with a disability expressed their love of attending live music events. However, the fear and lack of access stopped them from going. As an accessible gig, Groove Tunes will provide support services such as Auslan interpreters, printed braille tickets, in-venue access ramps and lowered bar access, accessible signage, a sensory zone and sensory packs, on-stage lyric videos, as well develop an accessible website and keep ticket prices low for the music industry and disability community alike.

“I want people of all abilities to feel included & enjoy a night of live music. In planning this event, additional features have been included that may be of assistance to people. These features include; Auslan interpreters, an accessible web page, a sensory zone/pack, braille tickets, large signage, and a team of volunteers who will undertake Tibi’s disability awareness training. Groove Tunes will not only be a night of live music but an educational night for industry professionals.”
– Dina Bassile, Tibi Access Founder and Groove Tunes Event Manager

Showcasing some of Melbourne’s best artists, Groove Tunes will provide access to musicians who live with disability to showcase their work, as well as give punters with disability and their friends and family the opportunity to experience an inclusive, anxiety-free night out.

The evening’s headliners will be the genre-expanding outfit The Grogans, who are a trio of best friends from Melbourne who explore nuanced manoeuvres in surf, punk, blues, garage, psych, rockabilly and reggae, as well as the Mornington Peninsula’s Matilda Pearl who is a recent high-school graduate and an exciting independent artist on the rise. Inhabiting a delicate, chamber folk sound world that draws on Hakka-Chinese melodies and western art music, Irene Zhong will also join the lineup, fresh off the back of their Music Victoria Award nomination for the inaugural Arts Access Victoria Amplify Award for deaf and disabled artists.

Straight from the Wild at Heart team, the evening will also feature the sounds of young keyboard player Edward Roussac who has a talent for writing catchy tunes, as well as Saint Ergo, a post-genre music project that aims to explore the intersection and the connection of us, where love and life are found. Combining all the elements of Saint Ergo’s work as a songwriter, performer, producer, arranger and engineer with elements of folk, classical, jazz, rock and pop, their art aims to inspire an inclusive and open minded community.

Tibi Access looks forward to playing a part in paving the way in changing the landscape of live music, events and venues so all Victorians can have an equitable and enjoyable experience. Do not miss this celebration of inclusivity and diversity in one of the most iconic venues in the live-music capital of the world, when Groove Tunes takes over the Corner Hotel on Saturday 19 March 2022. Groove Tunes would like to thank event partners Music Victoria, VMDO, Box Hill Institute, Grill’d Local Heroes, Australian Arts Council, Creative Victoria, City of Yarra and Expression Australia for contributing and helping make this event possible.

BAD MOON BORN unveils richly melodic and timeless new single ‘LIGHT LEAVES THE DAY’

by the partae January 17, 2022

Sydney hard-rock outfit Bad Moon Born unveil their timeless new single ‘Light Leaves The Day’, a track that sees the band lean more into an acoustic and melodic rock direction for their first offering in 2022. The song’s theme and honest lyrics shine a light on Jordan Von Grae’s (Vocalist/Lyricist) personal struggles with addiction whilst highlighting his journey to sobriety.

“Light Leaves the Day addresses a time when I’d been newly sober following several years of chronic alcoholism and drug abuse. The initial clarity that came with sobriety brought several unaddressed mental health issues to the forefront, leaving me to confront them unaided through means of self-medication. It forced me into a terrifying loop of introspection which, through therapy and the support of my loved ones, ultimately resulted in a newfound desire to commit to my personal development, and change my behaviour. The song was written at a time when I was new to this change and whilst I was hopeful for the future, I was terrified that my efforts wouldn’t be enough to save the relationships I’d damaged throughout this time. 18 months on, I can safely say that committing to sobriety has been the best decision I’ve ever made.”
Jordan Von Grae (Vocalist/Lyricist)

The track was recorded at Morava Audio and produced and mixed by guitarist Voya and mastered by Chris Blancato (Northlane, Glass Ocean).

‘When we sat down to write the songs for ‘The Heart From the Hollow’ singles collection, Jordan suggested including a ballad to help balance out the heaviness of the other tracks. I had a couple of acoustic ideas in 3/4 I’d been playing with and decided to arrange them with multiple synths in a way that didn’t give it the feel of a ‘typical’ ballad. I was sort of envisioning it as a ballad composed by aliens, with enough nostalgic and latter-day elements to please a wide array of beings. When we got together to go through the lyrics and vocal melodies, everything fell into place quite naturally.’
Voya (Guitarist/Producer)

Since 2016 Bad Moon have been building up an impressive presence for themselves across the release of two EPs, extensive touring across Australia, including headline shows and tour support for Buckcherry and Hardcore Superstar. In August 2020, the band released a cheeky cover of Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy which attracted 95K plus streams, while in 2021 they released 5 consecutive singles, known collectively as ‘The Heart From The Hollow’ series. ‘Light Leaves The Day’ is the fifth and final installment in the series.

The band are currently working on their new album due out this year.

PRAISE FOR BAD MOON BORN

“A punch-you-in-the-face belter delivering mean, meaty riffs, eerie layers of synth production and a melancholy monster of a chorus.”
Music Feeds

“Light Leaves The Day’ is a grainy, gritty alternative rock-folk ballad whose searching and honest lyrics create an emotional bedrock that energises the song.”
Scenestr

“Sydney’s Bad Moon Born has returned with a slamming new tune, and it’s called Fallout.”
Hysteria Mag

“Waves unleashes a storm of brisk, sharp modern metal juxtaposed with graceful melody and infectious vocal hooks that warrants repeat listens.”
The Rockpit

“Damn is it good. With touches of a BMTH sound, ‘Fallout’ shows that this new direction is a perfect fit for Bad Moon Born.”
Recurrent Verse

“The tune is a powerful modern heavy rock ballad that pulls you in immediately and has a chorus that will inevitably leave the listener with goosebumps.”
Maniacs

“Bad Moon Born left me wanting to hear more and chomping at the bit to see them live again soon. If you haven’t seen these guys live, please do it!!”
Wall Of Sound

“They’re a hard-hitting, tight trousered, thunderingly heavy and mightily loud quintet with obvious experience and charisma, and a swag of excellent songs.”

THE STREETS
RELEASE NEW SINGLE
‘WRONG ANSWERS ONLY‘ FEATURING MASTER PEACE
+ LONDON XOYO RESIDENCY THIS MARCH

Today Mike Skinner as The Streets’ has shared his new single ‘Wrong Answers Only‘, a collaboration with South London singer and rapper Master Peace. With Skinner’s trademark wit and eloquent lyricism set atop big beats, the song is complimented by Master Peace’s euphonious input, about which he comments:
“Working with Mike brought out a new avenue of my lyricism that I haven’t previously explored. He taught me a lot and I feel like that’s reflected in my verse, it touches on elements of fun, realisation of friendships and enemies and the aftermath of how you feel about those scenarios“.
Mike explains, “been playing bits of this song for a very long time and it gets a reload without anyone knowing it. It doesn’t matter whether you like it or not so just enjoy 2022 and try to get to see your relatives overseas. But we’re not always wandering round Plymouth with stragglers and bottles, I also like boxing in virtual reality”.
The single is out now on Island Records and will be followed with an official video, produced and directed by Mike himself, out next week. Listen now via the link below.

LISTEN TO ‘WRONG ANSWERS ONLY’ FEAT MASTER PEACE HERE

Mike will be taking to the decks for a DJ residency at London’s XOYO on Fridays in March, find out more here.

Gabry Ponte, R3HAB and Timmy Trumpet Team Up for the Cover of Blondie & Giorgio Moroder’s Iconic Song of the 80s in a Dance Key

by the partae January 16, 2022
written by the partae

Artists: Gabry Ponte & R3HAB & Timmy Trumpet
Title: Call Me
Label: Spinnin’ Records

Download / Stream

Hard not to remember the song made famous by Blondie and the A-class composer Giorgio Moroder. “Call me” it’s been the life soundtrack of many people in the 80s, an energetic and engaging song, chosen by the three multi-platinum DJ producers Gabry Ponte, R3HAB, and Timmy Trumpet, to reinterpret it in their style. What a wonderful gift to start the new year with the right approach! Nostalgic of the 80s and dance music fans: it’s your time!

The Italian DJ/producer, after his success with EIFFEL 65, kept releasing solo material, always in rhythm with the newest sounds in electronic music. In 2019 he dropped his “Monster” collab with LUM!X, followed by more joint efforts in the shape of ‘The Passenger‘ (along with D.T.E.), ‘Scare Me‘ (along with KSHMR). His collaboration with LUM!X and Prezioso, “Thunder“, released in May 2021 has established itself on the dance market with force, grinding millions of streams and obtaining several certifications, including platinum records in Sweden, Norway, and Italy. Also noteworthy is his collaboration with Aloe Blacc on “Can’t Get Over You“, released in December 2021. The American and Grammy-nominated performer, undisputed star of dance music, has also lent his voice to the hits “Wake Me Up” and “SOS” along with the top DJ producer Avicii.

Dutch–Moroccan Multi-Platinum DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the better part of the last decade. From his breakthrough remixes for Rihanna, Drake, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, Lady Gaga, to anthems such as Gold– and Platinum-certified “All Around The World (La La La)” and “Lullaby,” to his collaborations with the likes of Luis Fonsi, Sean Paul, ZAYN, Andy Grammer, Sofia Carson, Smokepurpp, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Astrid S, Olivia Holt and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most talented and forward-thinking artists in the game, whose work collected over 5B streams to date. He says: “Making music with friends never gets old. I’m excited to work with Gabry on our second record, following “The Portrait” and with Timmy Trumpet on our third collab. “Call Me” is going to be a festival hype builder. Gabry and Timmy have great energy, which keeps the artistic process fresh and inspired“.

DJ, producer, and live instrumentalist Timmy Trumpet is undoubtedly one of the most prolific performers in the DJ Mag Top 100. An award-winning, multi-platinum selling recording artist, Timmy has forged his way to the top of the industry alongside influential artists taking the world by storm. His breakthrough release Freaks has reigned in over half a billion streams, reached six times platinum status in Australia, and dominated the charts in ten countries becoming the highest selling track of all time on Ministry of Sound Australia. In 2020, after over a decade on the scene, the DJ producer issued his first album, Mad World. The set included the singles “911” with R3HAB, “Up & Down” with Vengaboys, and a cover of “Mad World” with Gabry Ponte.

Well, a threesome that can only churn out hit. “Call Me” combines the amazing power of the original song with what is the style of the dance today, ensuring an amazing result. So much desire to sing this timeless chorus and to dance to the fast-paced rhythm of the song, are the feelings that will prove who will listen to this new hit!

Dani Doucette

by the partae January 16, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

I am currently based in Toronto, ON.

How did you first start playing music?

I was influenced by my family, my father is a musician, however I really started playing with my brother Andre Doucette.

What’s been happening recently?

Well I’m still coming down from the high of performing for North Bay Pride, It was an electric evening.

Your new EP ‘Run With Me’ will be out on January 14th, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Honestly each song has its own unique vibe. I wanted this EP to just have freedom of expression, and allow each song to be its own mood. I was influenced by things going on in the world that I think about, experiences in my life I was sorting through. The usual songwriter things lol!

How did you go about writing the EP?

This first collection has been written and rewritten. Some songs are 6 years in the making, I wrote “Making Moves” two weeks before we had to solidify the line-up.

Where and when did you record/produce/master the EP and who with?

So many great people made this EP happen, Milano, Jack Emblem, Thomas McKay, Anthony Wright, Danie Santos, Andre Doucette, Phil Demetro, and Vic Florencia.

How did you approach the recording process?

Each song at a time. Then I listened for months, and if I wanted to change anything, I did.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I love listening to a wide arrangement of songs. I love good house music like Elderbrook and Rufus Du Sol. Also Robyn and throwback R&B from the early 2000’s.

What do you like to do away from music?

Put my earbuds in and run!

What’s planned for 2022?

Well this release is top priority and at the moment I’m organizing the music video for the title track, “Run With Me”.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

A big salad and a cabin in the woods.

What Does Your Favorite Type Of Music Say About You? Find Out Here

by the partae January 16, 2022
written by the partae

Have you ever wondered what the music you listen to says about your personality? There are many different genres of music that people can listen to, and it usually corresponds with someone’s personality. Though there is not just one type of person who listens to just one specific genre – everyone has their own taste in music because everyone is unique in their own way, there are some personality characteristics that can be linked to liking a certain kind of music.

1. Pop/Go With The Flow

People who listen to pop/popular music usually go with the flow. They are open to new experiences, like to feel like they’re a part of a crowd, and might just spontaneously break into song when their favorite tune comes on. Wanting to learn how to sing like a professional, and you can read more here about the steps you should take if you can relate to this as well, or how to act in front of a crowd is somewhat common with pop enthusiasts. Performing in front of an audience and expressing themselves is something that they might also enjoy.

2. Blues/Deeply Happy

This may seem counterintuitive to some at first. However, listening to blues, or other kinds of music that’s so rich in emotions – even sad ones, can make people feel happier for different reasons. It’s important to note though that this doesn’t necessarily mean happy as in joyful, but happy in a more calm and deeply rooted way. Knowing how to recognize different emotions, accept them, feel them and then let them go, is a characteristic that can be linked to enjoying blues or other moody music. It’s not about wallowing in sadness, but rather confronting it and dealing with it, which is something that most people who enjoy these kinds of genres tend to do.

3. Punk/Rebel

Punk music has long been associated with rebelliousness and strong disapproval of authority. Those who listen to punk tend to think for themselves and want to break out of stereotypes. They want freedom – both emotional and physical, they don’t want to be held down, and they want to be able to live life on their own terms. A particular characteristic that can be linked with liking punk music is the urge for exploration, of wanting to break out of norms and go on adventures. While preferring other types of music can also involve exploration, punk enthusiasts tend to be much more assertive about what is it exactly they want. They experience emotions deeply even though they can sometimes seem like they don’t because expressing themselves in an unapologetic way is a part of their nature.

4. Socially Conscious Rap/Passionate

People listen to socially conscious rap because they want to be a part of a movement. They’re not only looking for catchy beats and sick flow but also to be exposed to important messages from different perspectives. There is an underlying feeling of wanting the world to change or at least some aspect of it. Some believe it can change through music, while others find listening to this genre comforting in the sense that there are other people that share the same values they’re so passionate about themselves. The characteristic that can be linked with enjoying socially conscious rap is passion, but it’s not the same kind of passion that punk enthusiasts might feel. It’s like a peaceful fire that burns inside them and keeps them focused on a goal since they want to make an impact on their own or someone else’s life.

5. Alternative Rock/Prone To Melancholy

People who listen to alternative rock are often introspective. They tend to keep quiet about their emotions, but that’s because they tend to prefer to think things through before saying much. They tend to feel things very intensely, but it’s not because they’re weak people – on the contrary, they are quite strong for being able to handle so much. Feeling everything around them so deeply means that listening to alternative rock can be somewhat melancholic. However, this music also helps introspective people stay grounded and focused on taking care of themselves. People who love this genre are more likely than others to enjoy poetry and other forms of writing, even if they don’t consider themselves to be writers.

While this list obviously doesn’t even stretch the surface of the matter – there are so many genres of music out there – it can give you a general idea of what types of people might enjoy which ones. It’s important to note though that no one is completely defined by the music they like, even if it does say something about them because everyone is also different in their own ways. However, knowing your favorite genre can be a fun and interesting way to think about your personality characteristics as well as gain some insight into how others may perceive you.

We Talk to Josh Sahunta About His New Single ‘This Party Sucks’

by the partae January 16, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

Edmonton, Canada.

How did you first start playing music?

I began playing music when I was very young! I was given a toy piano when I was about 3 years old, and I would play Disney songs by ear (I watched a lot of Disney movies). Eventually I was put into piano lessons (which I hated), and then began writing my own songs and singing in high school.

What’s been happening recently?

During the pandemic, I’ve mostly been producing music for other artists, while gearing up to release my own album. For my own music, I’ve been mostly wearing my “business and marketing hat”, so producing art for other musicians has been my creative escape. It’s easily been my busiest year by far!

Your single ‘This Party Sucks’ will be released on January 14, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

The sound of this song was definitely inspired by the likes of Charlie Puth and the new Weeknd stuff. Very moody, upbeat, dance-pop was the vibe for sure. It sounded like a party song, but we didn’t want to just write another party song, so we said “why don’t we make a song about bad parties?”, and that’s how this song was born.

How did you go about writing ‘This Party Sucks’?

I wrote this song with Robbie Jay, who has worked with the likes of JoJo and Conor Maynard, and Edgar Vargas, a producer I was put in touch with through Warner Records. We actually wrote this song over a Zoom session, as Edgar was in L.A. and Robbie was in England at the time. I’ve had to adapt a lot to writing songs over Zoom during the pandemic. Initially I hated it, but over time I grew to almost prefer it, as it’s easier to stay focused and get the job done.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?

I co-produced the song with Edgar Vargas, who sent me the initial instrumental. I added a few things just to give it a bit of a personal touch and we called it a day! I was supposed to go down to L.A. to record my vocals at Edgar’s studio, but due to the pandemic and flight cancellations, I ended up recording the vocals at a studio where I live.

How did you approach the recording process?

The recording process was done in stages. Edgar and I sent the track back and forth with our changes on it, and then I recorded the vocals at Velveteen Audio here in Edmonton, Alberta. It’s crazy to think that even 10 years ago, it would’ve been a lot more difficult to record a song this way. But thankfully, music technology has come far enough to allow me to record and write an album with people I’ve never actually met in person.

What programs/equipment did you use?

The song was produced on Logic Pro, which is the DAW I use for everything. I had the privilege of test-driving a Tube Tech Cl-1B compressor, which has been used on pretty much every hit record you could find today. I recorded my vocals into a Neumann U87 mic, which is just the best all-around mic I’ve ever used. Throw some effects and samples in there and voila!

What do you have planned in support of the single?

There will be a lot of cool visuals accompanying this single! Not entirely sure if I’ll do a full music video yet, but I’m getting a lot of TikTok and IG content done that is extremely high quality and exciting to be releasing! It’ll almost be like a music video broken down into several smaller clips that all add up to one larger narrative! I’ve never tried doing it like this before but it’ll be an exciting experiment.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Lately, I’ve been loving the new Adele album. It’s so different from what I’ve heard from her before and there are some HUGE songs on that record. I’ve also had the Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson Paak) record on repeat since the day it came out. I cannot remember another album that made me appreciate music this much in a very long time.

What do you like to do away from music?

I’ve acquired many hobbies outside of music over the past few years! For the longest time, if somebody asked me what I enjoy outside of music, I didn’t really know what to say, but since then, I’ve taken up skiing, soccer, hockey, and a few other outdoor activities that have definitely been keeping me busy. I’ve also always loved reading and I’ve read almost 24 books this year! To sum it up, I love trying new things; except skydiving or bungee jumping. I will never try those.

What else do you have planned for 2022?

There’s a lot of album release planning to do and I’m trying to get all of that together as early as possible to prevent any last minute emergencies. Other than that, just spending time with family and friends and making the most out of my favourite holiday, especially after a very difficult year.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

I would say right now, if you were to find me at any food place in my city, it would likely be at a local restaurant called The Next Act. Everything on the menu is incredible (especially their brisket donair), and I spend far too much money eating there. I’m not sure if you have donairs in Australia, but if you don’t I’d love to take you to The Next Act if you ever visit Edmonton!

Korn Shares New Song ‘Forgotten’ From ‘Requiem’ Due February 4

KORN SHARES NEW SONG, FORGOTTEN
LISTEN | WATCH

REQUIEM DUE FEBRUARY 4 VIA LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS

Today, Korn shares Forgotten, their first offering of 2022 and the second song from their upcoming studio album Requiem, due February 4 via Loma Vista Recordings. Forgotten arrives with a visualizer created by EFFIXX, who did the VFX work in the video for Korn’s first Requiem single Start The Healing, which was directed by Tim Saccenti (Flying Lotus, Run The Jewels, Depeche Mode). Start The Healing now sits in the Top 5 at Mainstream Rock charts in the US.

Over the last week, Forgotten has been teased via easter eggs across the internet with different stems from the song hidden on their website, newsletter, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Makersplace in preparation for the single’s drop.

Forgotten arrives on the heels of Korn’s 2022 19-date arena tour announcement supported by very special guests Chevelle and Code Orange which begins March 4.

Korn is also performing four nights with System Of A Down beginning on January 31 in Phoenix followed by a stop in San Diego on February 1st and two sold-out shows in Los Angeles on February 4 and 5.

Stay tuned for more Korn news coming soon.

About Korn:
Korn changed the world with the release of their self-titled debut album. It was a record that would pioneer a genre, while the band’s enduring success points to a larger cultural moment. The FADER notes, “There was an unexpected opening in the pop landscape and Korn articulated a generational coming-of-angst for a claustrophobic, self-surveilled consciousness. Korn became the soundtrack for a generation’s arrival as a snarling, thrashing, systemically-restrained freak show.”Since forming, Korn has sold 40 million albums worldwide, collected two Grammys, toured the world countless times, and set many records in the process that will likely never be surpassed. Vocalist Jonathan Davis, guitarists James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch, bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, and drummer Ray Luzier, have continued to push the limits of the rock, alternative and metal genres, while remaining a pillar of influence for legions of fans and generations of artists around the globe.

The level of Korn’s reach transcends accolades and platinum certifications. They are “a genuine movement in a way bands cannot be now,” attests The Ringer. They represent a new archetype and radical innovation, their ability to transcend genre makes barriers seem irrelevant.

Felicia ‘Get Lucky’ Premiere

by the partae January 14, 2022
written by the partae
With songwriting running through her family, Felicia has been immersed in music since her early childhood. She made her debut in show business with her participation in La Voix Junior at the age of 12 and was part of Marie-Mai’s team. Two years later, she auditioned and got selected to join the group Cool Kids and got the opportunity to sing all the songs for the animated series Snowsnaps which was broadcasted on Teletoon, Treehouse and Disneyland distributed in more than 21 countries.
Now, like all young adults, Felicia is trying to find her place and her way – and she finds that she best expresses herself through art. Whether she is painting or singing, Felicia is an artist in all aspects of her life.
