Sydney-based alternative-rock trio RedHook have just unveiled their hyperactive video clip for ‘Kamikaze’ featuring Will King from Windwaker – filmed, directed and edited by Brandon Lung (Stand Atlantic, Polaris) with assistance from Yeah Rad Creative (The Dead Love, FANGZ).
Shot at various locations around Sydney’s inner west, the clip features all three band members performing the song in a flurry of feverish visuals, including kaleidoscopic effects and hysterical strobe lights. Featuring frantic quick cut shots, a penetrating colour scheme and extreme energy, the music video is a thrilling encapsulation of the song’s chaotic nature.
Lead singer Emmy Mack comments on the clip:
“Because this song is so rapid-paced and aggro, we shelved our trademark kooky narratives and went for a more aesthetic, performance-based clip to capture some of the intensity and haywire energy of our live show and the song itself. The frenetic camera movements and dizzying lighting techniques reflect the themes of impending danger as the song’s protagonist hurtles towards their destruction.
Embarrassingly, I ended up in the ER after we filmed it from going a bit too hard trying to do a bunch of jumps and kicks in these giant emo platform boots and stacked it big time – thought I’d fractured my hand!”
RedHook’s ‘Bad Decisions’ EP has ticked up close to 2 million streams on Spotify, while singles off the EP have been further comprised by the likes of Apple Music and Amazon Music, with ‘Cure 4 Psycho’ being added to rotation on triple j, along with further radio support from Kerrang! Radio (UK), SirusXM (US), triple j Unearthed, The Faction, 4ZZZ and Aussie Music Weekly. The tracks have also received praise from blogs Rock Sound (UK), New Noise Magazine (USA), Rolling Stone (AUS), Pilerats, Music Feeds, HEAVY Mag, Maniacs and Hysteria Magazine, with multiple video clips being added to rotation on ABC’s Rage.
RedHook recently embarked on an EP headline tour throughout April and May, including multiple sold out shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. They will be appearing at Halloween Hysteria in Queensland, as well as part of the music line-up of Sydney extreme sports festival District X alongside Hands Like Houses and Hooligan Hefs in October, before joining the likes of Northlane and In Hearts Wake at the inaugural Full Tilt Festival in Sydney in late November.

PEOPLE SAY
“[Solo Career] has carved a comfy niche in the scene with her heady and mood-soaked creations.” – Weirdo Wasteland
“Hypnotic.” – VICE
“Delivering bedroom pop in a 100% original way with plenty of production tricks, but never in a way that overcooks it. All in all, it’s balanced and beautiful.” – Abby Butler, triple j
Today bedroom pop act Solo Career, the project of Dharawal / Illawarra artist Annabel Blackman (also known as singer/lead guitarist in acclaimed rock group, Body Type), shares her first official single ‘Movie’, alongside news of her debut EP The Sentimentalist, due September 17 via Dinosaur City Records.
Listen to ‘Movie’ HERE.
Written, recorded, produced and mixed by Blackman at her DIY home studio, ‘Movie’ features an icy guitar line, motorik drums and a driving bassline, with Annabel’s brusque vocals floating listlessly in the thick of the mix.
On the story behind the track, Blackman reveals:
“I wrote ‘Movie’ after seeing ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’. It was an idyllic afternoon; I walked into the old movie theatre at Bulimba in QLD with my family looking forward to an enthralling experience. We left the cinema an age later. Grandpa looked wiped, everyone was quiet, and then the bickering started and didn’t stop till we settled down at home and watched a movie starring Beyonce. The whole experience sent me into a doom spiral and made me question the integrity of my family unit.”
Talking about the songwriting process, Blackman adds:
“I started writing this song a couple of years ago. I had an idea for the guitar line when I was walking home from work and tried to make it work for ages. It wasn’t until I wrote the lyrics that I was able to mash it together into something I was happy with.”
Solo Career is the late night bedroom pop project of Annabel Blackman – architect, artist and singer/lead guitarist in acclaimed rock quartet Body Type. With Body Type, Blackman has toured Australia, the USA and the UK, supporting acts including Fontaines D.C, Pond, Alex Cameron and Unknown Mortal Orchestra on their national tours in Australia, and playing festivals SXSW, The Great Escape, Hit The North and Live At Leeds, Fairgrounds, Gizzfest and Sydney Festival off the back of releasing two highly praised EPs.
Amongst all this, Blackman has written, produced, recorded and mixed new material for Solo Career while making a name for herself across Sydney’s burgeoning music scene, opening for acts including Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Goon Sax, Good Morning, RVG and Sasami, and landing a dinnertime slot with online music festival Isol-Aid in 2020. Live, Blackman is joined by Cecil Coleman (Body Type) on flute, a development that occurred after living together and recording a flute part late one night.
In 2020, Solo Career released two covers: Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and ‘I.M.R (In My Room)’, a synth-soaked take on the Beach Boys classic, which was added to rotation on FBi Radio and Edge Radio, and saw praise from NME Australia, Beat Magazine, Deafen County, Verve Magazine and US music magazine, New Noise, who lauded it as ‘Bandcamp of the Day’.
Previous release, ‘Feelings’, featured on Dinosaur City Records Mixtape #4, was added to a string of Spotify editorial playlists, placed in AMRAP Metro Charts top ten tracks ordered for airplay by metropolitan community broadcasters in Australia for three weeks in a row, and added to high rotation on FBi Radio.
Keep up to date with Solo Career on Facebook, Instagram and Bandcamp.

If you’re a fan of Ocean Alley and The Rubens then I think there’ll be plenty about Chutney that you’ll be into.
Declan Byrne (Triple J)
That voice is crazy good! I love the way you belt it out but keep it cruisy at the same time.
Claire Mooney (Triple J)
A breezy breed of indie rock with just enough grit, it’ll hook you in from the first chord.
Happy Mag
Vocals are akin to the likes of Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, with a music composition which would not seem out of place in the early 2000s.
Chutney has returned with a certified banger! It is clear upon the first listen of this downright bop that the Gold Coast’s beloved 4-piece is climbing to great heights in the indie rock scene with their latest track carrying a significant message.
It’s not often you come across a song that screams at you to listen. However, Chutney’s latest release Talk does exactly that. Within the first second of hitting play you are slapped in the face with a commanding growl from lead vocalist Matt Hansford as if to say, “pay attention, what we’re saying is important”. And it is.
Penned from the experience of seeing someone struggling and aching to do something about it, Talk encompasses the many feelings of seeing a person you care about battle with mental health issues. The lyrics are carefully curated, showing all facets of seeing someone experiencing tough times. Whilst the verses vocalise how great someone is and holds them up to the light, the chorus echoes a father figure brushing off
the severity of mental health issues by discounting his daughter’s feelings. Delving into the importance of the song’s meaning, Cal Hughes (Lead Guitar) explains:
“Talk is about looking out for your mates when they’re having a hard time – about how everyone hasstrugglesfrom time to time, and how you are so much more important than you may ever realise. It is a song about mental health and the importance of leaning on those close to you in times of need. We wanted to create an uplifting, euphoric song that tackles sensitive subject matters while providing a positive ending – your mates will always be there for you, and having that talk isthe firststep to making a positive change.”
Opening with an unforgettably powerful bassline and cymbal soaked drum beat, Talk instantly captures your attention. Complimented with hip-hop laced vocals from frontman Matt Hansford, the track clearly draws upon rap influences and infuses it with that classic Chutney sound, often likened to rockers Arctic Monkeys and Sticky Fingers. Also carrying the attitude of industry icons such as Rage Against The Machine and Gorillaz, the track’s electrifying guitar lines in the second verse drive the single home, building to a perfectly executed, anthemic chorus just begging to be belted by a sea of people in a festival amphitheatre.
Tied to the single release is an accompanying music video, shot by Nicholas Stevens of Fastback Studios, that takes the viewer on a journey through some local-loved Gold Coast locations (Mo’s Desert Clubhouse, Alfreds Apartment, Mermaid Beach and more). The humorous clip starts with Hansford waking up on the beach at sunrise after a big night out, and continues to follow him as he navigates the day without a cent to his name and one goal: get to the gig. Showing that even with a rough start, you can still make a day your own with the right attitude.
Watch the music video here.
2021 is proving to be a successful year for the Chutney boys, with the Gold Coast natives bringing their infectious energy to the stage and leaving fans wanting more. From tour support with Queensland legends Beddy Rays and upcoming shows with Buttered, to their first festival appearance at Springtime alongside Ruel, Ball Park Music, Hermitude, Sycco and more in September, this four-piece is just getting started. With an upcoming single launch event, plans for another two singles and a run of shows before the end of the year, you can expect to be hearing a lot more from Chutney.

Late last year, Essex newcomers LOWLIFE dropped their debut track “WASTELAND”, hitting 300,000 streams with little promotion beyond social media and a nihilistic “if it moves, kill it” video game visual.
Today, they up their game with their second track “Friends,” which is out now via Hellcat Records.
Listen HERE.
“Friends,” is a gnarly, confrontational beast, with grinding guitars, clouting beats and bass that delivers a bulging heaviness and a gloating groove. The Essex-accented rhymes and gang call vocals pay tribute to every kind of friend imaginable: lowlife felons, failed criminals, creatives who break the mould, friends who secretly hate you, and others who will keep you in your thoughts even if you rarely see them. It’s a complete tapestry of life in three-and-a-half minutes.
Liam Haygarth explains, “’Friends’ was one of the first songs we wrote together during the first lockdown when the pandemic just started, we were sending across ideas/beats to each other over Zoom. Most of the track took shape within the first few days of making it, and then it was just a case of decluttering some bits, and really working on the groove. I think we rerecorded bass about 3 times before we were happy with how it sounded with the drums.
The song is about Friends (duh), and how the nature, foundation, and intentions of friendships change throughout life. It has aspects of Latin, Pop and Hip-Hop, we were influenced by Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Timbaland on the beat”.
And friendship is the basis of the LOWLIFE story. Jordan Cardy earned early acclaim under his RAT BOY alter ego, but he couldn’t have done it without his bandmates Liam Haygarth and Harry Todd. LOWLIFE gave them a fresh chance to be officially equals, especially after Tim Armstrong of Rancid renown recruited them for his Hellcat label.
Ironically the band’s early days were hampered by the separation of lockdown, forcing them to instead collaborate remotely. As restrictions lifted, they made a dilapidated studio lock-up on a farm their unlikely HQ, their home for a DIY process in which they create music, artwork, music video and merch away from the prying eyes and interference of the outside world.
LOWLIFE is Liam Haygarth, Harry Todd and Jordan Cardy (aka RAT BOY).

Spektre welcome Rebel Boy to their label Respekt after the American artist has made a splash with his techno tracks on other imprints such as UMEK’s 1605 and Oliver Huntemann’s Senso Sounds.
The release features two solo original tracks by Rebel Boy that blend his trademark enthralling synth lines with intense atmosphere and thundering percussion.
Both of the hard-hitting tracks are in the explosive style he has also expressed when collaborating with other artists such as, Sam WOLFE, Frankyeffe and The YellowHeads.
Quickly rising through the ranks to make a name for himself on the global techno scene, this EP is yet another example of why Rebel Boy’s tracks have been picking up DJ support from some of the genre’s biggest names.
“The Ties That Bind Us” opens the release with the twisted euphoria of the compelling synth line underpinned by the thump of a chunky kick drum and grinding bassline. Dramatic clap sequences burst forth, and the breakbeat breakdown is the perfect change of pace, before the percussion slams back in after a drop of epic proportions.
“Strange Pulse” has high velocity rhythms with a pulsating bassline and eerie atmosphere cut by otherworldly textured effects. Reaching a crescendo in the main breakdown with snare rolls and a lurching bassline, it delivers an onslaught of peak time energy perfect for any dance floor.

Head Of Clouds is a Spanish artist and record label project based around cinematic sounds and compelling melodies both poignant and uplifting. Their first release “Almond Eyes” is out now and their second release “When Magic Happens” is out on the 12th of July. Excited to learn more about this stunning project, we decided to catch up with Head Of Clouds and ask them a few questions…
Where are you currently based?
I am based in Barcelona, Spain.
Could you describe your style for those who have never heard your music before?
I would not define my music with any concrete style. This is why I would tell those who have never listened to me to forget for a moment what is established, not to think of any musical style, simply to feel the music and enjoy the experience. I understand my music as a language, a different way to express my perceptions.
How did you first get into electronic music?
I have been familiar with electronic music for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a home where luckily Enigma was one of the classics. That says it all.
All that love for electronic music that I have been experiencing over the years awakened in me an early concern to explore the world of music production. At the age of 13, I started creating my first tracks.
What’s your local music scene like at the moment?
After this pandemic year, the scene has been really affected economically and emotionally. This emotional change has been reflected in the music, from productions to the musical criteria of the DJs. I think this change made an improve to our scene, since many artists have been able to remove the standards from their heads and finally do things with their hearts. Let’s not forget that music is art and not maths.
What inspired your artist alias?
When I began to articulate the project, I had in mind that the artistic name had to reflect in some way the essence of what I want to convey. I was constantly looking for inspiration in different artistic fields. Coincidentally, on a visit to the Dalí museum in Figueres, the inspiration I needed came in a painting form. When I saw “Man with his head full of clouds” I felt instantly identified and felt that the project should mention this beautiful piece and Dalí’s philosophy.
Have you released music under any other names?
Yes, but I prefer that no one knows that Spiderman is Peter Parker haha.
The objective of this project is to bring all the focus in the music and not on the artist identity. I do not want there to be any kind of prejudice for whoever is willing to listen to me.
How did you approach the recording/production process?
To compose each track I base myself on a perception of reality, how can I capture it through music and how can I cause this feeling to the listener. I am never thinking if the listener will like my music, I am just worried about if the listener will understand what I want to express.
Once I have the track in my head, I sit at the piano to find the chords that make me feel what I want to express. The rest is simply transferring the instruments in my head to the DAW.
There is no element in my songs that is randomly placed, everything has a meaning and a reason. And that’s how the creative process of these two tracks has also been. For the nerds, in my social networks I will go into the details behind Almond Eyes and When Magic Happens.
For finalizing the process of both tracks, I needed a very concrete texture, a full-bodied, sweet and creamy compression that I could “only” achieve with a Fairman TMC. So this is why I decided to visit The Mars Citizen Studio, who has one of the exclusive units we can find in the world. David, the owner, was also in charge of mastering the two tracks, and the result speaks for itself. He is one of the bests.
What equipment is in your studio?
My setup it’s very simple for now. The digital tools are very powerful.
Universal Audio Apollo Quad Firewire (Audio interface)
Casio Privia PX-S1000 (Digital piano)
Adam Audio SP-5 (Headphones)
PRS Standard 24 Limited Edition (Electric guitar)
2 x WARM AUDIO EQP WA (Analog Pultec style EQs)
JOEMEEK SC2.2 ver. 4 (Photo optical stereo compressor)
You recently launched your new label, could you tell us more about the project?
Head of Clouds is not only my artistic identity, it’s also a way of perceiving and expressing art. The alias and the label are merged with the intention that Head of Clouds Records will only release my music not focused on the dance floor. Each track is released with a piece of art made by another artist in his field, expressing his/her perception about the track concept. This artist can be a graphic designer, a photographer, a poet, a filmmaker or whoever makes art.
What do you like to do away from music?
I love doing myself reiki, it’s just a space where I can have a date with me. Nowadays we spend lot of time with other people and we forget ourselves.
I am also a big fan of riding motorcycles and travelling.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2021?
During this year the main project is and will be continuing making music with different artists, which result will be able to start listening from 2022. With these collaborations I intend to bring naturalness and new sounds to electronic music.
From September a monthly single will be released until the end of the year.
Stay tuned! 🙂
Epitaph Records is pleased to welcome the cathartically abrasive punk band The Muslims to the label. Taking inspiration from classic punk and afropunk roots, the Durham trio mix hardcore, rock-rap fusion, political satire & shared experiences as multi-racial Muslims into a powerful and spiritual deliverance. With their sharp lyrics, gut-wrenching rhythms and offensive satire the queer POC punk band is ready to convert everyday citizens into cultish Munks.
Today, the band share their new single “F*ck These F*ckin Fascists.”
“I started writing this song during Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial and finished it during the attempted coup,” recalls vocalist QADR. “What a time to be alive. As a person who fits the description of a so-called ‘Black Identity Extremist,’ I find it funny that our music and message, calling out racist violence, makes people more uncomfortable than actual racist violence. At least we’re cute, tender, and funny af.
Artists are the truth-tellers throughout history, and we’re just speaking our truth. Fascism was never wiped out, it just got more polite and calls itself a Richard Spencer now, whatever that is. We’re going to speak truth to power and have a damn good time doing it.
I hope our fans (aka Munks) get some coded message about destroying capitalism and the patriarchy, but only if they play it backwards. I hope this song inspires the next Munk to be themselves: to mosh in the mirror, cuss out racists, steal plant clippings from government buildings, and support their local Co-ops.”

The Muslims formed in 2017, brought together by the aftermath of the 2016 election. They have since released three albums The Muslims (2018), Mayo Supreme (2019), Gentrified Chicken (2020), and one EP Inshallah: Tomorrow We Inherit the Earth (2020). The all-queer, black & brown Muslim punk band unapologetically use music as a vessel to call out racism, the American political landscape, and white supremacy. The Muslims have a lot to say and they aren’t afraid of hurting any feelings in the process.
The Muslims are QADR (vocals/guitar), Abu Shea (bass), and Ba7ba7 (drums).
