FACE the Music alliance launches its worldwide operations Global electronic industry unites to mitigate Coronavirus economic effects

by the partae July 25, 2020
written by the partae

FACE the Music, an alliance For Art and Cultural Entertainment (FACE) formed as a response to the negative economic and cultural impact of COVID-19 pandemic, has just launched its worldwide operations. This alliance exists as a not-for-profit association which will act globally, with the aim to support and enhance the electronic music industry. Founding members and associates include booking and management agencies, artists, promoters, club owners and other professionals from this industry, such as representatives of Yoyaku Agency, Toi.Toi.Musik, Fabric London, Mutek Festival, The BPM Festival, Visionquest, Avant Garden, BArtist Agency, Bleach Agency, Zero Logistics, Nomad Talent, Lola ED, Minibar, Discobar, Subsonic Music Festival and more.

The alliance will take action in creating a dialogue with decision-makers in politics and culture and national governments to investigate ways to be supported and saved. FACE the Music will, also, serve as a platform for professionals to communicate, collaborate and educate on designing the music industry’s re-opening. Additionally, FACE considers its mission to go beyond the so-called creative economy and raises awareness of the beneficial effects of nightlife in its social, intellectual, academic, artistic, and (counter-)cultural forms.

FACE the Music will be acting as a centralized force that will strengthen the industry’s collective needs and tackle common issues and difficulties, especially in times of turmoil such as the current global emergency. The alliance will also collate up-to-date information on measures as a response to the current crisis to provide instructions in a consistent manner. Furthermore, FACE will identify ways of driving sponsorship and/or funding which would be available to the benefits of our members,  and aim to create partnerships and initiatives with other similar associations.

As a reminder, nightlife has not only been suspended worldwide, but it’s also a sector facing the most uncertainty about how and when it may re-open fully. While national efforts to save this culture are under discussion in places recognising nightlife such as Berlin or Amsterdam, FACE has identified the need for a collective and coordinated international response in the rest of the world as well.

All industry professionals, companies, associations are welcome to become members via the link: https://www.face-the-music.org/become-a-member

Fresh off the heels of releasing an official remix for Lady Gaga’s ‘Stupid Love’, Velvet Code is making a spectacular return to form with his new single, ‘Teenage Dreamer’. The song is accompanied by a cutting-edge, digitally enhanced 4K music video, filmed entirely while in self-isolation.

Blending vibrant progressive house and electronic influences, ‘Teenage Dreamer’ is the first follow-up single to Velvet Code’s 2019 sophomore album release, ‘Dreamer’. The song, which is written, produced, mixed and mastered by Velvet Code himself, is an empowering electronic anthem filled with nostalgic and thought-provoking lyrics; aimed to connect with fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Over the past few difficult months, I’ve felt compelled to write a song that empowers listeners to continue to dream big and not give up hope,” says Velvet Code. “‘Teenage Dreamer’ embodies the joy and happiness I’d like to impart on my amazing supporters as they navigate through these tough times.”

Velvet Code – ‘Teenage Dreamer’ is out now on ENSIS Records.

Caleb Hawley

Harlem-based Caleb Hawley’s distinctive, breathy vocal is utterly captivating on new single ‘Tell Me What It’s Like to Have a Dream Come True.’ The dreamy chorus is juxtaposed with the gritty, melancholic verses. With subtle rock influences, this mid-tempo ballad is like a breath of fresh air for the pop scene.

Michael Lukes

Michael Lukes has released the luminary music video for his song ‘Stars’, taken from his dynamic EP ‘I AM’. The indie-pop and folk singer-songwriter collaborated with director Angelice B. Ganti and a diverse cast from multiple countries, creating a visual which amplifies the song’s message of unity.

KnowledgeBoy

Buoyant keys and tinny beats create a summery soundscape on KnowledgeBoy’s new single ‘Hottie Baby’. The Chicago-born rapper delivers a confident, smooth flow supported by R&B-style harmonies, all enveloped in sugary autotune. This track is taken from his upcoming album release, ‘Leaders 4’.

BTWN US

Melbourne trio BTWN US have perfected the recipe for an indie-pop floor-filler with their latest single ‘Talk.’ Featuring smooth melodies and powerful vocals throughout, the chorus bursts with whirring bass, guitar locks and chanting harmonies. This irresistible anthem is accompanied by a gritty, sunset-soaked music video.

Silver Coast

‘You Could Have It All’ is the enticing new single from Scottish Alt-Rock band Silver Coast. The emphatic electric guitar and vivacious drums create an immense sound, featuring the vitality of Pop Punk and the gritty edge of Indie Rock. Lead vocalist Aaron Murray delivers powerful, compelling belts which elevate the track further.

Black Sands

‘The Hardest Pill to Swallow’ is the dark, dynamic and electric debut single from producer Black Sands. The smooth R&B vocal is partnered with a driving Alt-Rock beat and swirling synthesisers, creating a unique fusion of genres. The momentum of this track never waivers, building anticipation for Black Sands’ upcoming record.

Pook Hustle

‘Purple: Grass Is Always Greener’ is the new dual-track release from Brooklyn-born hip-hop prodigy Pook Hustle. The bouncing hook line of ‘Sickwitit’ is paired with energetic percussion, whilst ‘Budapest’ offers spacey synths and a smooth, assured rap flow. This project precedes his upcoming sophomore EP ‘Red Tape’.

Stock Footage

The debut album ‘Broken Together’ from Indie-Rock band Stock Footage indicates that this is a duo unafraid to explore uncharted sounds. High-octane percussion and driving guitar lines create a rock edge to the pop-inspired melodies, partnered with the band’s signature horns.

Kaylan Mackinnon ‘Roller Coaster’ Premiere

by the partae July 25, 2020
written by the partae

She first gained some attention when, at 10, she was nominated for a Toronto International Music Award for Best Young Songwriter by a panel of judges (including Juno-nominated singer- songwriter Jully Black) for her original song “Remember Me” – following this experience, Mackinnon placed as one of the Top 10 musicians for the worldwide Hard Rock Rising Contest in March of 2014 and in 2015 when she was contacted by director-producer Sean McNamara to use her original song “Espresso Kiss” in the feature film “Just in Time for Christmas” starring Eloise Mumford, William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd.

Originally from Toronto, Kaylan has been living in Vancouver to complete her Creative Writing degree at the University of British Columbia – AND – she’s not only released been the EP “Savour” (with west coast writer-producers Winston Hauschild and Troy Samson), but she’s also gearing up to release a brand new record before the end of the year.

Sundressed – Unveil New Single ‘Your Frequency’ And Announce New Album ‘Home Remedy

by the partae July 24, 2020
written by the partae

SUPPORT FOR SUNDRESSED

“This one gets stuck in your head after just one or two listens.”
– Brooklyn Vegan (USA)

Tracks added to Spotify playlists ‘New Punk Tracks’, ‘Punk Unleashed’, ‘Pop Punk’s Not Dead’ and ‘Punk Rock Workout’

Tracks added to Apple Music playlists ‘Rise and Grind’ and ‘Breaking Rock’

Arizona-based indie-punk band Sundressed have just revealed their new single ‘Your Frequency’, off their forthcoming new album ‘Home Remedy’ – due September 18 via the band’s new home Rude Records. ‘Home Remedy’ features previous singles ‘Home Remedy’ and ‘Oh Please’. Pre-orders for ‘Home Remedy’ available now; HERE.

“’Home Remedy’ is a record about getting better by any means necessary,” shares frontman Trevor Hedges. “Despite many setbacks, I truly believe we were able to make our most authentic and honest record yet.”

He continues: “’Your Frequency’ is about the “side-hustle” culture. How it’s never okay to relax, how something always comes up when you’re almost ahead. This song is about the desire to have less worry about essential needs and have more time to be human.”

Living on such a chaotic planet, tossing and turning is inevitable. It’s hard to sleep in the midst of uncertainty. That’s why Sundressed was born. Lead vocalist and songwriter Trevor Hedges began his project in 2012, with the initial purpose of maintaining his sobriety. Now, eight years later, Hedges has refocused the project’s mission, writing songs that tackle mental health issues for others to take solace in. His confessional lyrics and punk-infused melodies inspire hope in listeners to continue moving forward.

With the addition of AJ Peacox (guitar), Vic Chan (drums), Matthew Graham, and Justin Portillo, Sundressed has never sounded better. With ‘Home Remedy’, produced by Mike Pepe (Taking Back Sunday), the band is determined to make a positive impact, one lyric at a time.

’Your Frequency’ is available worldwide now through Rude Records

COREY HOLLAND ANNOUNCES DEBUT SINGLE ‘MEAN THAT’

by the partae July 24, 2020
written by the partae

Coming off a feature on Lewka and Misoltri’s Sony Music single ‘Show You Off’, Singer/Songwriter Corey Holland, now marks his own entry into the music industry with smashing debut single ‘Mean That’.

The track is a bonafide R&B/pop tune, fuelled by heartfelt lyrics and a catchy chorus that’s written by Corey Holland. The instrumental was co-created by Corey Holland and Australian powerhouse producer FRAAN, who is known for his drum patterns and adding a lot of flavor to the simplest of melodies.

Corey Holland says that ‘Mean That’ was inspired by the idea of masking your truth in a relationship and the idea that neither of you really know what you want from the other. It’s an event that occurs for a lot of individuals in relationships and the artist wanted to capture this feeling.

“This is my first ever single and it has been in the vault for a while! In the past few months, I have been working with a few electronic music producers from around the world, and after a lot of amazing feedback from fans, I decided to release some original music.”

SONNY FODERA & DOM DOLLA SQUASH THEIR FACES AGAINST OFFICE SCANNER FOR ‘MOVING BLIND’ VIDEO [OUT NOW ON SWEAT IT OUT / SOLOTOKO]

by the partae July 23, 2020
written by the partae

“Sonny Fodera’s one of the biggest draws in house” – MIXMAG
“Dom Dolla tops 2019’s Dancing Astronaut‘s Breakout Artist of the Year” – DANCING ASTRONAUT

With their new collab Moving Blind amassing 2 million streams across platforms, Sonny Fodera, Dom Dolla and their loyal fanbase have got imaginative with an office scanner for their Moving Blind video.

With COVID providing hurdles in their video collaboration, Sonny Fodera and Dom Dolla put the call out for assistance which produced an amazing response from fans.

With a playful and light-hearted idea in mind, fans were directed with a creative concept to submit. Picture this, you’re at work, it’s an office party, you’ve had a few beers and the photocopier is left unattended … what do you do? Squash your face in the copier and start scanning your most fascinating, squished looks of course. You’ll be the talk of the office the next day.

The results exceeded expectations, with fans from all corners of the globe alongside Sonny and Dom providing inventive and original scans featuring the likes of whacky sunglasses, polaroids, empty bottles, ‘call me’ gestures, playing cards and smudged lipstick, all pointing to signs of a successful office party.

Director James Stevens transforms the scans into trippy and captivating visuals that weave amongst Sonny Fodera and Dom Dolla’s epic tour snippets, set to get fans buzzing for their rescheduled co-headline East Coast dates in November.

The fresh dates will follow their first roadblock US tour in 2019, as well as their 2020 tour that saw the pair sell out over 10,000 tickets across The Shrine in LA, Mission Ballroom, Denver and The Midway, San Francisco.

Meanwhile, with Moving Blind hitting no.3 spot on the Beatport Chart Top 100 whilst landing full rotation on Triple J and support from the likes of Pete Tong and Mistajam on BBC Radio 1, Sonny Fodera and Dom Dolla add to their overflowing list of achievements with the Moving Blind video only set to catapult the release to the next level.

Sonny Fodera and Dom Dolla’s – Moving Blind video is out now via Solotoko / Sweat It Out.

Produced by the team at Hype Republic, this beautiful performance is a bittersweet taste of what fans would have been treated to over the highly anticipated weekend.

DMA’S brilliant third studio album THE GLOW (released globally on Friday 10 July) debuted at #2 on the ARIA Album Chart, #4 on the UK and took out the #1 spot in Scotland. This huge accomplishment marks the highest chart positions to date for the band.

‘I feel like we’ve all been waiting for a music show to come back on TV! Really looking forward to watching and very glad to be a part of it’ – Josh Teskey

‘I’m excited and honoured to be appearing with Paul Kelly on The Sound. Having grown up in the ‘70s, the idea of sitting in front of a colour telly on Sundays at 5.30 was an integral part of my alternative music education. Now we can all do it again! And to be playing this exquisite song by the great Mr K just makes it even more special.’ – Paul Grabowsky

‘I’m really looking forward to performing live on The Sound, it’s so fabulous to see live music back on the ABC again’ – James Reyne

‘If this show is one of the results of this difficult time, then it’s good that we can see a positive thing come out of it, for musicians and Australian audiences. Very happy to be involved.’ – Julia Stone

‘We are honoured to be a part of The Sound and can’t wait for you all to see it this weekend’ – San Cisco

‘I’m very excited to perform my new single ‘Complicated’ for the very first time, and grateful for the opportunity during these very strange times. Absolutely love the all-Aussie line up!’ – Eves Karydas

On social media, the verdict was unanimous – The Sound is must-watch TV!
‘This show is awesome!!!’
‘Fills a yawning gap in free to air television programming’
‘Loved it. Thank you. At last I feel connected again to Aussie music”
‘Fabulous first show …  Loved the diversity on offer. Keep up the great work. Music cures all’
‘A show like this is long overdue on our screens. Boy oh boy are we blessed in Oz. And those locations. Just fab! Keep it up!’

UK label Big Scary Monsters has announced a Virtual Popup store, which will open its doors at 4pm on 27th July, with ‘instore’ performances every day from illuminati hotties, Kevin Devine, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and Into It. Over It (see poster for full line up). The virtual store can be entered here on launch day, and will stock exclusive vinyl variants, rare test pressings and new merch, alongside interviews with Jamie Lenman, Delta Sleep and Martha and more.

Users will be able to click on sections of the store to reveal instores and live Q&As at relevant times. Activites include special live content exclusive to the store, such as a conversation between Chris Farren and Kevin Devine, live songs from ‘A Lull In Traffic’ from The Gloria Record, a very special live cover song from The Winter Passing, and a Q&A with Jamie Lenman to name a few.

The pop up aims to raise funds for Black Minds Matter UK and #saveourvenues, and there will also be a special t-shirt on sale with proceeds going towards these charities.

Talking about the store, label founder Kevin Douch said: “We absolutely love our popup shops. Having been to London, Cardiff, Glasgow and Brighton over the past couple of years, we decided there was only one possible destination for a summer like 2020; EVERYWHERE. The first ever BSM Virtual Popup shop provides all of the usual fun. We’ve got instores, talks, exclusive products, crazy discounts, test pressings and so much more. Our old friends Signature Brew are even providing the (mail order) beers! We can’t wait to open our online doors and see everyone next week.”

In aid of Black Minds Matter UK and #saveourvenues
