When it comes you tourist destinations, many people often ignore farmers’ markets in search of wild adventures. But the thing is these places have their own unique experience that is worthy to try. Almost all countries have farmers’ markets that bring their own perspective and twist their popularity. Markets like this come with a history that has proven itself to be a point of intrigue for many people – including the locals and tourists. Here, we are going to take a look at where the best farmers’ markets are and why they’re so popular.

The Hexham Marketplace

Watching some of today’s best new TV shows not only is a way to spend leisure time but also gather some ideas about different cultures, especially when it comes to pop culture. One example that we would like to mention here is the TV show called “Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales”, where Matt Baker visits the marketplace with his family to source local produce for a special farm event. The Hexham Marketplace is located in Northumberland, England, and stands out as one of the oldest and click-worthy farmers’ markets in the UK.

Other than the media exposure it often receives, the Hexham Marketplace is famous for its artisanal cheese. There are many kinds of cheese that are available for both tourist and locals to get their hands on.  The Northumberland cheese stall is a tourist magnet that has different kinds of rare cheese that is infused with local herbs. The different variations of cheese are so popular that visitors buy a wedge before leaving.

The shopping experience is quite good too, with many shops offering handmade crafts. You can also sip on the locally roasted coffee which is perfect for your adventure. You can listen to the live music that frequently occurs in the market square to get a true taste of tradition.

Queen Victoria Market

The Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne, Australia is a must-try farmers’ market for anyone exploring Australia. It is also one of the largest open-air markets that is filled with all sorts of food stalls and experiences. It has all sorts of shops and eateries with some rare and iconic foods to try out once.

The most iconic food in the Queen Victoria Market is the Kangaroo Meat sausages. This choice of meat is not only wild and exotic but also a fan favorite among the locals. Tourists can try out these kangaroo meat sausages and feel the real taste of Australia’s cuisine. But for those with a sweeter appetite, the Lamington cakes are also a good option to try.

The Queen Victoria Market is not just a place for food; it has all sorts of guided tours and indigenous art that showcase the history of the marketplace. There are many relics and antiques you can purchase to relive your memories after your trip to this destination.

La Boqueria

One of the oldest and most iconic farmers’ markets in Europe is the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria or simply La Boqueria in short. It was established in 1217 and still has many attractions and food spots, such as the traditional Catalonian fare. The main thing about this market is its display of fruits, seafood, and Iberian hams which is unlike other places.

The most iconic thing about La Boqueria is its Paella kits that visitors can buy to cook Spain’s iconic dish at home. You can complete it with saffron and bomba rice to make it a flavourful souvenir that brings the taste of Spain to kitchens around the globe.

The market is also a standout destination for many travel documentaries and is all about showcasing its rich cooking style. There are many stalls that offer a glimpse of the local cuisine or variations of international cuisine that are hard to resist.

St. Lawrence Market

The St Lawrence Market in Toronto, Canada is a heaven for foodies. The most iconic item to try here is the Peameal bacon sandwich which is made with cured pork loin. You can even pair it with local craft beer to enjoy the perfect meal that is fit for the market’s busy atmosphere.

It is also more of a community center in the sense that there are many cooking classes, pop-up events, and community shows that celebrate Toronto’s rich diversity. You can try all sorts of dishes and experiences right from India to Italy to satisfy your taste buds.

To Wrap It Up

These farmers’ markets are more than just a destination for fresh produce – they celebrate the history and cultural diversity that brings people together with years of tradition. The iconic foods along with the warm nature of the locals make it a perfect spot for tourists to explore.
