Praise for Telenova

“It’s rare for a band to arrive with such a polished and defined aesthetic this early” – NME, ★★★★

“Telenova have made an impact pretty quickly.” – Richard Kingsmill, triple j

“This is stupidly good. A sophisticated and utterly mesmerizing second release from one of 2021’s best new acts” – Bridget Hustwaite, triple j (Tranquilize)

“‘Cinematic indie pop at its finest. It sounds at once nostalgic while thoroughly modern, and is sure to get stuck in your head from the very first listen.” – Purple Sneakers

“A majestic debut from a band in its infancy… Telenova’s universe is so well realised you’ll be leaving footsteps in the band’s saturated deserts the moment you step through their portal” – NME, ★★★★

“This song really did take me by surprise when I heard it for the first time on Friday and I thought YES, kicking off next week’s BREAKING with this….” – Matt Wilkinson, Apple Music 1 (Tranquilize)

“Enchanting, alluring and instantly stylish stuff…” – Declan Byrne, triple j (Bones)

“…the trio bring together a lifetime of musical experience condensed into genre-combining brilliance, where their overlapping worlds come together to create striking moments of hazy alt-electronic-R&B-esque versatility.” – Pilerats

Melbourne three-piece Telenova, one of the brightest musical discoveries in 2021, are thrilled to share their self-assured new single ‘Why Do I Keep You?’ – released via Pointer Recordings. ‘Why Do I Keep You?’ is a sophisticated slice of modern nostalgia that evokes ‘90s melancholic guitar pop without losing its contemporary lean.

Intensely personal in nature, ‘Why Do I Keep You?’ is about letting go of someone you loved, someone bent on their own destruction – “I kissed the ground before you, I cut my eyes out for you, restless, blinded by my love…oh why do I keep you?”

The single is accompanied by Telenova’s most realised visuals yet – a stunning eclectic bazaar that sets the trio in their own colourful universe; filled with clever movement, tongue-in-cheek references, and playful verve. Conceived and directed by Angeline Armstrong, the ‘Why Do I Keep You?’ video features choreography from Zoe Marsh (Gretta Ray, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard).

‘Why Do I Keep You?’ was teased earlier this month through a global campaign titled Amateur Hypnotism. Mysterious street fliers appeared in New York, London, Sydney, Melbourne and Istanbul, leading the curious to a typically elegant looping 20-minute mix of original Telenova beats and remixes, curated in-house by Telenoir, the dark, beats inspired off-shoot of the band.

In conjunction with the digital release, Telenova will release a limited 7” single featuring unique multi-medium artwork and a Telenoir remix (both exclusive to vinyl). To celebrate the vinyl release, the band will perform two special in-stores at Rocksteady Records and Sound Merch on Record Store Day 2022.

Debut headline shows have also been announced for London alongside appearing at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton. Before jetting off to Europe, the band will perform at the 2022 APRA Awards in Melbourne. Full tour dates and information below.

Telenova first introduced the world to their vivid aesthetic and pop smarts via debut EP Tranquilize. Anchored by cult hit ‘Bones’ (triple j’s 2021 Hottest 100 #91) and garnering major media support across the world (BBC Radio 1, Apple Music One, NME, Vogue Paris), Telenova quickly found a passionate, growing audience with their rich brand of pop and surreal visuals, all driven by enigmatic frontwoman Angeline Armstrong.
