SOMETHING FOR KATE 08/03/22 The Forum

It’s been four years since Something For Kate have done a national headline tour, so tonight’s Echolalia x The Modern Medieval is not before time.

The first of four sold out shows at Melbourne’s iconic Forum Theatre, sees the band embark on a national headline tour of theatres across the country. Albeit this tour was scheduled for last year sometime, it has fallen victim to the perpetual (it seems) rescheduling that so many artists have been inflicted with. The past behind, it’s a new start to gigs and tonight’s show is no exception.

With no support act to warm the crowd , Something For Kate promptly graced the large Forum stage to embark on the first of two sets. The first set being the Echolalia album played in full. I don’t recall SFK having done this before (I could be wrong), so this was a treat. Playing all tracks from start to finish on the albums 20th (or now 21st) anniversary, and while being the fashion at present to perform anniversaries, this one was exceptional.

The second set consisted of predominantly new tunes from 2020’s The Modern Medieval along with a smattering of tracks from Desert Lights, Leave Your Soul To Science and The Official Fiction. Tracks from the new album sounded fresh, but with that SFK formula that works so well, including – All The Great Minds, Supercomputer and Situation Room, however Blue Bird was a notable omission.

As always SFK included a cover, this time Bowie’s Heroes and culminating with the punter favourite, Captain (Million Miles an Hour) lifted from Elsewhere For 8 Minutes.

So good to see a band with this level of longevity still producing great music, performed in a great room to multiple sell out crowds – long may you run.
