With the strength of recognition, Mia Lovelock’s ‘Winter Comes’ offers a hand towards unity

Mia Lovelock is excited to release her latest single Winter Comes on the 30th March 2022. Through rhythm, melody, and language, Winter Comes reflects on past crimes and shines light through growing awareness. This song is about the fragile nature of sovereignty, the scars of stolen generations, and the beauty of healing in a place that’s always been home.

The production on Winter Comes is inspired by ’90s Trip Hop and driven by relaxed downtempo beats. Reflecting acts like Massive Attack and Portishead, Lovelock merges acoustic and electronic vibes to tell a story that is close to her heart.

Lovelock believes in the power of music. “Winter Comes is about unity, healing and sovereignty for First Nations people. Bringing awareness to recognise the past, stand strong in the present, and work towards a future to unite.”

Mia Lovelock is performing at Torch Fest in Sydney on April 2, 2022. Taking place at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville, her performance will combine music, art, and fashion, featuring her own wearable art designs. Lovelock’s music will be set against a backdrop of live painting, models, dancers, and a DJ set. Torch Fest is a mental health music festival presented by Listen Up Music.

The artwork that Lovelock will create live on stage at Torch Fest will be up for silent auction at the festival, with all proceeds going to the mental health music charity Listen Up Music.

About Mia Lovelock

Mia Lovelock has a diverse range of skills as a musician, artist and fashion designer. She spent her childhood years in Arnhem Land and Papua New Guinea and shares an indigenous heritage with the Taungurung people of central Victoria.

Lovelock creates soulful music inspired equally by traditional folk and modern electronica. She launched her debut single Endure at the end of 2020. This beautiful song captured the attention of music lovers and reviewers from across Australia. Since then, she has also released The Game and Last Night, gaining positive support and airplay on Triple J — Australia’s national radio network.

Last Night made it onto Spotify’s Deadly Beats playlist, and was also added to the Apple Music playlist FIRST.

Away from music, Lovelock has created a fashion label and exhibited work as a visual artist. Her wearable art pieces have been featured in USA publications Elegant Magazine, SALYSE, and Prolific, and her visual art has been featured on the ABC TV series Black Comedy.

As the latest chapter of her story, Lovelock’s new single Winter Comes helps us to recognise the past, stand strong in the present, and work together for a shared future.
