“Lachie is in a class of his own”

Daily Telegraph

“His vocal range reminds me of Ed Sheeran mixed with Sam Ryder, blend in some powerful and anthemic guitar tones and booming drums and what you have is a track nothing short of spectacular.”

It’s All Indie

“Lachie Gill is an exciting new talent who is leading the way in the commercial pop genre”

FV Music Blog

“The Path to success after The Voice can be fraught, but Australia has never seen a winner quite like Lachie Gill.”

Who Magazine

Lachie Gill is back!  The talented pop-inspired singer/songwriter has been busy in the studio creating his latest up-tempo, catchy offering, ‘Sad Summer’ which is released today through Universal Music Australia.

Earlier this year, Lachie won over the Australian public with his captivating vocal ability and charismatic charm which saw him crowned the winner of The Voice 2022. He released his debut single, ‘Wasted Time’ in May, reached #2 on the iTunes chart and generated over 3M streams across all digital platforms including half a million streams on Spotify. His stripped back performance of ‘Wasted Time’ reached over 280k views on YouTube.

Lachie received accolades from around the globe including Cyndi Lauper and his coach Rita Ora who said, “Lachie is in a league of his own, he’s the ultimate storyteller and has the ability to capture the audience and have them go along with him. He sings like it’s the last time, every time.”

Now Lachie has teamed up with prolific, global chart topping and award-winning Australian producers Andy and Thom Mak (Boy & Bear, Vera Blue, Tori Kelly, Julia Stone) to write for his latest project. Harnessing his candid, emotive writing style, Lachie and the Mak brothers broke down these walls of vulnerability to craft the anthemic ‘Sad Summer’.

“It was at a time when my relationship was going through a bit of a rough stage,” Lachie remembers. “I’ve written way too many sad songs, and I wanted to see if I could put that energy into something a bit more upbeat.”

Combined with summery instrumentation, and a cheeky approach to both song writing and performance, ‘Sad Summer’ fills itself with wide-eyed optimism and innocent nostalgia to create a pop anthem that arrives custom-made for the warmer months, armed with familiar lyrical references to Lana Del Rey and a devotion to good vibes.

Ultimately, ‘Sad Summer’ showcases a new era for Lachie Gill, as he moves away from his self-admitted love of sad songs to embrace a fun-loving component which paves the way for what’s to come. “I’ve never wanted to be just a sad ballad singer. People have only ever heard me giving that real grit and emotion,” he explains. “‘Sad Summer’ still has that emotion, but it takes on a more happy, fun, and cheeky sort of vibe.”

Armed with an impossibly catchy new single, world-class vocal chops and the steely determination of an athlete, it’s clear that Lachie Gill is not just here for a good time, he’s going to be here for a long time.

He has also announced Sad Summer: Live + Intimate, an acoustic show at the Memo Music Hall, St Kilda on Friday December 2 with special guests McDermott and North.
