KIRRAH AMOSA WEAVES MAGIC ON ADDICTIVE NEW SINGLE ‘POSSESSIVE’

Emerging with wicked hooks and a vocal presence that is impossible to ignore, Canberra R&B artist Kirrah Amosa is an absolute breath of fresh air.

With her new single ‘Possessive’, Kirrah brings the type of energy R&B fans have been riding hard for within the genre in recent years: confident and passionate, with a unique sense of edgy cool threaded throughout.

It’s not the first time Kirrah has stepped into the spotlight with her music and art, though as this year rolls out, hers is a voice not quick to be forgotten.

‘Possessive’ has Kirrah on a sonic and vibey wave that would make the likes of SZA and Kehlani fans feel right at home. Late night beats and rhythms are a strong foundation for Kirrah’s hypnotic R&B vocals as they weave around a narrative that is pretty straight forward: ‘a loving reminder’, as Kirrah says, to ‘keep your hands and eyes on your side of the table’.

There is a playful energy within the song that keeps Kirrah’s self-awareness in check. On this record she acknowledges the darker side of herself, but also that through dark times, she has emerged into a healthier space where she is at peace with her being.

“2020/2021 bestowed on me the best of the worst; crushed my dreams, dissolved years of hard work, ended my relationship, introduced me to my new bestie, Anxiety, and helped me understand that the niggling feeling in the back of my head wasn’t motivation to be healthier – it was body dysmorphia.

2022 is officially the new year of birth as I have completely shed all remnants of the shame and doubt that fuelled my being and have fully embraced my good and semi-toxic traits e.g., ‘Possessive’.  Accepting this darker side of me was nothing short of absolute liberation, so if you’re anything like me, I offer you this.

Instead of entering the always-vicious screening cycle with a new potential partner, feel free to play them ‘Possessive’. Let ‘em know what to expect, and if they get surprised by your ‘passion’ (or emotion-filled mood swings), that’s on them.”
KIRRAH AMOSA

For the ‘Possessive’ music video, Kirrah kept it close to home, filming at her grandparents’ home and co-directing the project with filmographer Isack Hoppitt. The intimacy of the track is captured with great detail; visually depicting the sensual and often semi-toxic nature of relationships bound by a possessive nature.
“I grew up in my grandparents’ house, so I’ve only ever seen it as another home until very recently realising it was the ultimate, 70’s-vintage, jackpot and location for all my content, including ‘Possessive’. I needed this video to be very different to everything I’d done in the past, so I just let my inner-crazy alter-ego take over. She knew exactly how she wanted each shot, exactly where she needed each scene, exactly how to deliver each line. Combine this with Isack Hoppit’s unmatched ease behind a lens, and the underutilised acting expertise of my good friend and talented artist, Kirklandd, this song and video is my proudest piece of work so far. I am nothing without my loyal team.”
KIRRAH AMOSA

2022 will see Kirrah unveil more new music than ever before; a treat for fans around the country who have been following her journey as not just a talented singer, but an accomplished stage performer as well.

Kirrah’s versatility as a performer has led to invaluable touring experiences supporting the likes of Rita Ora, Jess Glynne and as part of the Ministry of Sound Australian Tour with Sam Sparro, Crystal Waters and Alison Limerick, but also as part of the original cast of HAMILTON Australia.

A proud Australian/Samoan woman, Kirrah’s love for music and the craft of expression through song runs in her blood and since a young age, she has been driven to connect with audiences through her music.

‘Possessive’ is out now.
