NEW SINGLE ‘RIDE OR DIE‘NEW ALBUM LP3 OUT FEBRUARY 4

Today, Hippo Campus release ‘Ride or Die,’ the third single off their upcoming third studio album LP3, which arrives February 4 via Grand Jury Music. The band will perform the song on The Late Late Show With James Corden Monday, January 24. ‘Ride or Die’ is an anthemic anchor for LP3, a bombastic track loosely charting ride-or-die relationships across different capacities — communities, romantic partners, collaborators, and friends. It’s accompanied by a chilled-out, lo-fi video, directed by Joe Pease.
On the track, JakeLuppen says, “It’s one of my favorite songs on the record — you can really hear everyone in the band doing their thing.”
The single & video come a day after the band surprise-released 1,000 free limited edition flexi discs at record stores all across the globe. Fans in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan were given an early chance to hear the single before it officially arrived online today.
‘Ride or Die’ follows the recent releases of ‘Boys,’ which Billboard included in their Best Pride Songs of 2021 list and debuted #14 globally on the Spotify Indie Popchart, and ‘Semi Pro,’ a sunlight-tinged song about the liberation that comes from making peace with stepping away that was named the #1 greatest gainer on the same chart.
What Hippo Campus wanted with LP3 was something all five of them could agree on, the way they’d made music in the early days of the band when they were in high school. As their profile grew, amassing nearly ¾ of a billion streams and hundreds of thousands of tickets sold, they found themselves compromising on their visions, thinking about how fans would interact with their music, and plagued by an unsustainable industry ecosystem.
LP3 is their strongest and most complete work yet — a freshly-inked portrait excavating young adulthood and identity and, more importantly, how that personal identity fits into a larger camaraderie. It looks at how growing up can just feel like something that’s always moving past you when you’re trying to grab a hold of it; it’s a push-and-pull of letting go or holding tighter — and figuring out what matters the most. Through cinematic, sonic clarity, is a sweeping account of courage and tenacity; tender-hearted stumbling that leads you on the right path after all.
