Fred channels the ups and downs of life in ways seldom found in dance music. The Actual Lifetrilogy, his first solo albums, are musical diary entries – reflecting certain time periods in Fred’s life and full to the brim of sampled vocals from friends, collaborators and people met along the way. Carlos, for instance, is a construction worker Fred met after a show in Atlanta. His voice rings through the trilogy, a joyous Southern drawl proclaiming “I want you to see me, friend”, transformed across Actual Lifeinto dance floor bangers that at times bring a tear to the eye. Each record is an expert exercise in composition, sampling and masterful production, spanning April 14 2020 to September 9 2022, contextualising what has undoubtedly been a difficult but enlightening period.
