Where are you currently based?
I’m based on Wurundjeri land.
What’s been happening recently?
It’s been a busy few months! I released my first single in a little while, “Ashamed”, last month and have been getting everything prepared to launch my album next year.
I also recorded a cheeky little Christmas song to thank my supporters for waiting so patiently for my new music.
Your latest track ‘She Loves Christmas Time’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
The song itself was influenced by my fiance who, as you can probably guess, adores Christmas. The sound was influenced by Phoebe Bridgers and girl in red’s holiday songs, which aren’t in-your-face festive, and stay true to their indie style.
Please tell us about the LGBTQIA+ storyline and why this is important to you:
It’s important to me to share LGBTQIA+ storylines that aren’t about being queer. It shouldn’t be a novelty to hear a queer holiday song – but unfortunately it is. I hope that it provides authentic representation to our community, and maybe even inspires someone else to do the same.
How did you go about writing She Loves Christmas Time?
This song started out as a little ditty for my fiance – I never planned to release it. But I knew it could mean something to a big group of people who are looking for representation, not just us.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
I had the joy of creating this song with Cory Jach – he brought my simple, stripped-back vision to life with help of James Bowers on keys. In keeping with my indie inspiration, I didn’t want high-energy jingle bells. I love the sound we landed on.
How did you approach the recording process?
To be honest, I didn’t give myself much time! I made the split decision to release this song, so Cory and I worked quickly to refine the sound. It’s the quickest song I’ve ever made!
What does this single mean to you?
It’s the first song I’m releasing about my fiance, so it’s very special to me. It probably has the most sentimental value of any of my songs!
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Kelsea Ballerini’s new album. It has such an old school Shania Twain vibe and I can’t stop spinning it!
What’s planned for 2023?
My album is dropping! But I think I’ll release a few more singles first. Watch this space.
