Previous Support for McDermott & North

“You’ll have plenty swaying and swooning in the crowd to this one!”
4 / 5 (Declan Byrne, Triple J) [About ‘Georgia’]

“Good hearing this duo step it up to the next level with this accomplished new track. It’s sustained and sweet like a slow-release treacle hit.” 4 / 5

(Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J) [About ‘Ally’]

“Patrick McDermott and Rhys North, have spent the past number of years carving out a sound that feels both grounded and explorative; it’s rooted in an earnest kind of folky warmth, but stretches into spaces of pure melodic ecstasy. Seriously, these guys really know how to write a chorus.” – Happy Magazine

“Clearly dedicated to the preservation of the song…”
Gary Crowley, BBC Radio

“A slice of gorgeous, blissful pop”
Mark Rogers, RNZ

Stream ‘All Things Come and Go’

Radiating with a sheer sophistication apparent in their performing poise, chic vintage style and enigmatic songwriting, Brisbane indie/folk duo McDermott & North are bringing an unmistakable nostalgic spark to their enchanting brand of indie-rock with new single ‘All Things Come and Go’ (out Jan 21).

Known as one of Brisbane’s most beloved busking duos, Paddy McDermott and Rhys North have been impressing audiences with their meticulous sonic dynamism, dazzling vocal harmonies and sincere songwriting stamina since meeting in 2016, with the pair delivering multiple releases, including last year’s soul-melting singles ‘Ally’ and ‘Georgia’.

Now, as we enter 2022, McDermott & North continue to carve out a sound that is entirely their own, starting the year with the sweet, optimistic melodies found in ‘All Things Come and Go’.

Opening with the blissful combination of McDermott & North’s warming folk-esque vocals, the track bursts with feel-good energy as rustic guitars fuse with gentle percussion. Led by a consistent melodic build created with rising vocals and weaving guitar layers, classic rock elements begin to melt into sunny indie-rock. With the textured swoop of drums, the chorus finds McDermott & North harmonising in rounds, neither musician missing a beat as one voice remains grounded to let the other experience moments of levity.

As the track continues its uplifting sway through memorable melodies and lustrous lyrics, maybe the only challenge the song poses is whether to feature it on the wholesome folk festival playlist for toe-tapping good times, the mellow alt-country faves list that have you singing along within seconds, or that curated coastal indie-rock road trip mix perfect for full cars and scenic routes. Perhaps all three.

Influenced by revolutionary songwriting of the ’60s, McDermott & North are inspired by direct, intentional lyrics that make people think twice, writing ‘All Things Come and Go’ as a celebration of life and the importance of living in the present moment. The duo further explain:

“‘All Things Come And Go’ is about coming to terms with the fact that whenever you’re going through a rough patch, a ray of sunshine is just around the corner. As we grow older we learn how to let go of the things we once held closely in order to make way for the next part of life’s journey. You also start to realise the finite nature of life and the importance of finding a sense of contentment living in the moment. The song lives in that space – not thinking about the past, not being too worried about the future either.”

During their five-year music journey together, McDermott & North have not gone unnoticed, with their releases receiving both national and global radio attention from the likes of Triple J, National NZ Radio and BBC Radio London / Scotland / Belfast, as well as their multiple live performances across the country including Bluesfest 2019, supporting Ben Lee’s Queensland Tour, playing two 2021 shows with Alex Lloyd, performing two sold-out headline shows in Brisbane and plenty more.

Don’t let McDermott & North’s newest single slip through your fingers – ‘All Things Come and Go’ is out everywhere on January 21. The duo will be touring Victoria and Tasmania throughout January and February, find more information below.
