MEGAMIX SOCIAL
Arts Centre Melbourne – from April onwards

Yolngu hip hop artist Baker Boy will headline free concerts at Hamer Hall as part of MEGAMIX Social – Arts Centre Melbourne’s fully subsidised program of music, theatre, circus, tours and workshops for primary and high school students.

The program, presented in partnership with the Victorian Department of Education and Training as part of the Positive Start in 2022 initiative, is designed to promote wellbeing through the access to the cultural experiences missed during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Carefully curated with young music fans in mind, the MEGAMIX Social: Baker Boy shows on June 7 and 9 are a rare opportunity for students to see Danzal Baker, aka Baker Boy, who raps in English and Yolngu Matha representing his Arnhem Land family. A former Young Australian of the Year, he hopes to inspire younger generations to embrace their culture and become leaders in their communities. Audiences will be warmed up by a DJ and two special guest performers.

The music program will be also include creative music workshops on Hip-Hop lyric writing, household techno and composition at Arts Centre Melbourne’s dedicated learning hub The Channel, followed by a visit to the Australian Music Vault, an immersive exhibition celebrating the Australian contemporary music story.
The MEGAMIX Social: Theatre and Experience Program includes exceptional drama, dance and circus performances in the Playhouse and Fairfax Studio. The season includes Windmill Theatre Company’s Creation Creation, Flying Fruit Fly Circus’ Girls with Altitude, Sydney Dance Company’s Impermanence, Persian love story Dorr-e Dari and a mirrored art installation Kaleidoscope.

“After two years of remote learning we are simply thrilled to be welcoming students back to Arts Centre Melbourne’s iconic venues for such an exciting and fun program. We know memories created here will last a lifetime,” says Arts Centre Melbourne’s Head of Creative Engagement Cynthia Nolan Myers.

As part of the Positive Start in 2022 program, MEGAMIX Social is open to all students who attend a government or low-fee non-government school. The program is also available to students in one of the following categories: rural and regional students; students with disability; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; culturally and linguistically diverse students; students from disadvantaged or low SES backgrounds; students in Out of Home Care; students identified as vulnerable or at risk of disengagement.
