Since its humble beginnings as Fuck Yeah Fest, scattered around club venues in Echo Park, FYF Fest has excelled at providing Los Angeles music lovers with a festival as diverse as they are. The famously eclectic line-ups bring break-out stars of the moment together with established, beloved and iconic acts. Goldenvoice came on board as co-promoters in 2011 and are now the sole owners of the festival. Under their care, FYF grew into a two-day outdoor event and arrived at its current home of Exposition Park – with headliners The Strokes – in 2014. The following year saw the arrival of The Woods, which has quickly earned its place as a highlight of the festival and of LA’s dance music scene in general. The Woods features extended sets from DJs not usually found at U.S. festivals, as well as showcasing DJs from the local and international Queer scene. The festival’s growing global reputation has lured some of music’s most charismatic performers to Downtown Los Angeles, including Grace Jones, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kanye West, Morrissey, Erykah Badu, Grimes, LCD Soundsystem, Solange, Bjork, D’Angelo, My Bloody Valentine and Missy Elliott.
For FYF 15, Goldenvoice booker Jennifer Yacoubian is working hand in hand with CEO Paul Tollett and former FYF Presents team Dave Peterson and Emily Twombly, whose work in bringing the festival to fruition dates back to 2009. Together, they’ve crafted the dynamic and vibrant festival Los Angeles deserves.
“FYF has been a Los Angeles staple for the past 15 years (happy anniversary to us!), and a very special event with a diverse booking that is unique to the festival,” saysFYF/Goldenvoice booker Jennifer Yacoubian. “In the past 15 years, this festival has grown immensely with a strong team of women and men behind it to bring fans the best weekend of summer. And with incredible artists like Janet Jackson and Florence + The Machine topping this year’s bill, we are so psyched to have two badass women leading the roster as we head into FYF Fest 2018.”
For the fourth year in a row, FYF Fest has partnered with Plus 1 to donate $1 of every ticket sold to high impact organizations working to support the people in our communities who need it the most, both locally and globally. Through this partnership over the last 3 years, $135,000 has gone to organizations such as My Friends Place, Partners In Health, Be The Match, American Immigration Council and Skateistan, with FYF Fest’s 2018 charity partners to be announced shortly.
Additionally, FYF Fest’s long standing commitment to local artists and businesses continues to be a vital part of their overall programming, with art installations from Los Angeles artists, as well as food and beverage options from some of the city’s favorite restaurants, and so much more.
