Sam Feldt

by the partae April 12, 2018
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

I’m currently based in the capital of my country Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

Your new single Sam Feldt & Möwe – Down for Anything (feat. KARRA) is out, where and when did you record?

The track has been in the works for quite some time now, I think around half a year. Möwe approached me with this amazing vocal by Karra and the idea to make a track together. We hit the studio and connected really well creatively!

What influenced the song writing for this track?

Together with Möwe, we decided to create and produce a song that captures the feel of the warmer days that are ahead of us. We were really looking for a song that played well on the radio, has a catchy melody to it and sticks in your mind right from the beginning. Together with the sweet and poppy vocals provided by KARRA, I think we pretty much nailed it and we managed to get the results we were looking for.

How was it working with KARRA?

It was amazing, she has such a beautiful voice and she immediately knew what we wanted to achieve. It was an absolute breeze working with her. Next to being an incredible singer, she’s also one of the sweetest girls I know. I think we will be hearing a lot more from KARRA in the future.

How did you first start playing music?

I started playing the piano when I was around the age of 8, It didn’t take long before I decided I didn’t just want to play music, I also wanted to create it. When I was 11, I started DJ’ing for friends and family and before I knew it I was travelling with my dad across the country with my own drive-in DJ show. At age 17, I set foot in a club for the very first time. Right away, I knew this was something I wanted to pursue professionally. I wanted to be the guy who plays the records that people dance.

Your debut album From Sunrise to Sunset gained a lot of momentum just months after its debut in October of 2017, what influenced the sound of this album?

The Philosophy behind the two albums combined was to create music for each hour within a day. Whenever you listen to the album, you’ll find a song that perfectly matched the time of day. Sunset, which was released as a surprise album and is the follow up to Sunrise, tied the two albums together. Combined, they represent the 24 hours within a day, hence the title ‘From Sunrise to Sunset’.

How have things changed for you as a consequence of releasing Sunrise to Sunset?

I think releasing the album, shows the world the sound of Sam Feldt and is my gift to all the fans out there, It’s also the perfect opportunity to give new listeners a good idea what Sam Feldt is all about. I had so much music that I wanted to share with my fans, so I thought turning this music into an album would be the best way to do it. It also opened up the door to something I have been wanting to do for quite some time now and that is bringing all these live instruments that I use in my productions to the stage, together with my live band.

You supported the Sunrise Tour with the addition of band members and live instruments which led you to travel the world and play at the biggest venues. This year you will continue to travel the globe with your band in addition to your solo DJ sets. What do you find most enjoyable and challenging whilst touring?

The most enjoyable part about bringing the live band with me on tour is the extra dimension they add to the show. The energy goes through the roof and with the addition of live instruments you can really provide the audience with a complete different experience you normally wouldn’t be able to with just djing. The most challenging part might be streamlining all our agendas, because next to touring together we all have our own separate projects that also demand our time.

Do the crowds interact with you differently when you have the live band as compared to a solo DJ set?

Absolutely, when adding live instruments you get a much more dynamic performance on stage. People are not just looking at me to interact with but also the guys who are playing the instruments. In my opinion it gives the experience more depth for the people in the crowd, but also the interaction I have with the rest of the band takes it to another level and was something I always wanted to do. Seeing people play their instruments live simply adds that extra something.

In February you surprised us with your new remix album: ‘After the Sunset’ this is packed with 16 songs that are more club-oriented versions of tracks from your debut album, remixed by some amazing artists.  Who did you work with on this remix album?

The remix album is packed with so many great artists, like Calvo, Mesto, Breathe Carolina, Zonderling, Toby Green, DJ Licious, Redondo and many more awesome producers. I was blown away by the end result and the remixes they delivered. It’s so cool to hear your music being remixed by others and to see what they made of the tracks. I’m super happy with the remix album and I feel blessed by what they did to the tracks.

Why did you decide to release a remix album?

Over the past 2 to 3 years, I worked so hard on creating my own album, which resulted in 24 tracks that represented the Sam Feldt sound, to the best of my abilities. Because I spend so much time on this album and having so much material, I not only wanted to share it with the fans, but I was also wanted to have other producers take my music for a spin and have them make their versions of some of the tracks. It’s just incredible to see this happen to you music and hear their interpretation of something that means so much to you. After receiving so much love from the fans from around the globe after my debut album and my supporting tour, I thought it would be the perfect gift to surprise them with a brand-new remix album, filled with tracks they know by heart, put into a more club oriented style. The album adds to the wide spectrum of music that Sam Feldt stands for and adds yet another chapter to the story I want to tell through my music.

What do you most enjoy about playing music?

In general, I think music is the ultimate universal language there is. Give people a bass drum and we automatically start to move. I think music is something we can relate to on a very deep and emotional level, so being able to play people music enables you to share a certain emotion and take them on a trip by guiding them through your musical journey. Being able to do that is such a magical experience.

To see the fans get excited and share their love for something you created is indescribable. You get so much love back from the people on the dancefloor and that on its own creates a very special connection that automatically strengthens itself, making me work even harder to deliver.

In March you returned to Miami Music Week with your Heartfeldt Poolparty. How was this show and how did the concept come about and come into fruition?

Miami Music Week on itself is always a special happening. This year we decided to do another Heartfeldt Poolparty like we did last year. Again, it turned out to be a huge success. We sold out pretty quickly and it was absolutely one I will remember for a long time. We had some incredible artists on the lineup such as: Goldfish, Hook N Sling, Jay Hardway and SNBRN. KARRA also joined me on stage to perform our newest single ‘Down for Anything’ together with me for the first time. Overall, we had the best time ever and the crowd seemed to love it from the moment the first records was played.

At the beginning of this year you hinted through an Instagram post about plans for a more sustainable world, please elaborate on this:

Traveling the world as a DJ has been what I wanted to do with my life from a very young age, but it comes at a cost however. With over 200 flights per year I consider myself to be among the most polluting persons in the world. In the upcoming weeks I will shed more light on the projects I’ve been working on lately. I’ll be announcing a way in which I’ll become carbon neutral from this day worth and who I teamed up with, in my pursue to these goals. There are a lot of projects I’m currently focusing on, so keep a close eye on my socials because more info is coming very soon. In the meantime, try to ask yourself, what it is that you can do to make a better world, starting today.

You run the App Fangage: How is this App progressing?

Very well! We are now hosting fan portals for over 35 top influencers in music and sports and allowing them to get closer to their fans. Right now, over 200.000 active users are using the application to access exclusive content they can’t find anywhere else and that number is increasing by 10% every month. We have so many cool new features in the pipeline that I can’t wait to show you guys!

What do you have planned for the remainder of 2018?

2018 is doing well so far, I’ve just released my brand new single together with Möwe and KARRA called ‘Down for Anything’, I’ve got a couple of other music projects on the horizon, which I can’t talk too much about. The festival season is also getting closer and looking at my tour schedule makes me super excited about the Summer months to come. We’ve got so many cool shows coming up, with my live band or as a solo DJ. I think the rest of this year is going to be awesome and I can’t wait to see my fans from across the world again

Helena Hauff’s Return To Disorder to release Galaxian EP – ‘Paradise Engineering’ is out on May 14th

by the partae April 12, 2018
written by the partae

Glasgow based producer, Galaxian, is set to drop the 11th release of Helena Hauff’s Return to
Disorder imprint. “Paradise Engineering” is an ambitiously psychedelic piece of machine mastery that will be
right at home on Hauff’s label, with which she set out to bring “punk rock and techno together” in 2015. The
label’s name refers to the reactionary post-WW1 art movement, Return to Order, which called for a rejection
of the avant-garde in favor of conservatism and classicism. Return to Disorder has embraced
experimentation and genre bending with releases from the likes of Children of Leir, Morah and Umwelt.
Galaxian’s proximity to the sharp edge of quantum chaos and belief in the anarchism of nature make him a
fitting addition to the Hamburg based label.
“Paradise Engineering”, is a lot to unpack. Within its four tracks, Galaxian lays out an intricate web of self,
spiritual and socio-technic exploration and critique. Producing the cover art alone took him on a 12 month
journey, while meditating on questions of inner-alchemy, freedom and transcendence. The music covers
extensive sonic topography with each of the four distinct tracks building a critical tension while creating
counterpoint for one another. Violently intricate drum machine work stakes out the boundaries of “Paradise
Engineering’s” autonomous zone, where Galaxian lays out a dense thesis on the harrowed
human condition. The tracks leave the listener much to ponder, especially with lines like, “You have been
deprived of knowledge by frequency control” and “All possibilities exist”. Synth and bass lines emerge
oscillating around each other from deep space on the EP’s second A-side, “Mutual Arising”, clean and crisp
supporting elements to stratospheric strings. It gets significantly more aggressive on the B-side with “Life
Force” drilling through neck-snapping electro drums with acid patterns, whose methodic dynamism and
complexity begins to sound like inter-galactic alien transmissions when blown through a dizzying effect
chain. Comfortably

THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE SYDNEY SHOW SELLS OUT, NEW SHOW ADDED!

by the partae April 12, 2018
written by the partae
Due to overwhelming demand, The Brian Jonestown Massacre have added a second show in Sydney city to go along with the now SOLD OUT show at The Metro.  This 2nd Vivid Sydney show happens at The Metro on Friday the 8th of June, with tickets going on sale at 10am on Thursday April 12th.  All other shows across the country are selling fast with Castlemaine and Wollongong also SOLD OUT and shows in all other cities not far behind.

Lead by prolific outlier Anton Newcombe, The Brian Jonestown Massacre have both explored and defined the realms of neo-psychedelia across their storied 28 year existence.  The next chapter sees the release of the band’s 17th full-length studio album Something Else, which is out on June 1st, 2018.

Part shoegaze, part Velvet Underground, Something Else celebrates all that is great about the BJM, but as always hurries forward toward new musical horizons. With Newcombe’s trademark edifying social commentary at the fore, the album is a classic BJM reduction of swirling retro-hued guitars, washed over droning, hypnotic primal rhythms, that same sonic blueprint that has won the band an army of admirers and imitators alike.

Galvanised by electrifying live shows across multiple tours since the mid 2000’s and nourished by an impressively constant flow of exciting new recorded music, The Brian Jonestown Massacre have built a devoted fan base in Australia.  Whether on record, or in mortal flesh, fans know that the BJM are one hell of a f#@king trip!

GRUFF RHYS announces new album ‘Babelsberg’ + shares ‘Frontier Man’ video

by the partae April 12, 2018
written by the partae

“I’d made a note of the name after driving past a sign when I was on tour in 2014. Cut to a few years later and the studio where I recorded the album was being knocked down just a week after I finished to make way for a ‘luxury’ apartment development. I was looking for a name that evoked the Tower of Babel – people building towers to reach an idea of heaven (but maybe creating a kind of hell – I’m an atheist by the way!) In any case I had written Babelsberg down and when I listened to the songs together, it finally made sense why I’d done that.”

Babelsberg is the fifth album by Gruff Rhys, his first record for Rough Trade since 2007’s classicCandylion. It is set for release on Friday 8 June via Rough Trade / Remote Control

The album’s ten tracks were initially recorded in early 2016 in a whirlwind three day session that took place before producer Ali Chant’s studio was demolished. The band he gathered for the record were his regular drummer Kliph Scurlock (ex-Flaming Lips) and multi-instrumentalists Stephen Black (Sweet Baboo) and Osian Gwynedd. The ten tracks then hibernated for eighteen months, awaiting orchestral scores by Swansea based composer Stephen McNeff and the incredible work of the 72 piece BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

The result is Gruff’s best record to date – a ten song gazetteer of modern times, each track set to timeless, indelible melody. Amazingly, for a collection of songs written over two years ago, each one seems to pull very sharp focus on the times we’re living in.

Over the course of Babelsberg’s forty something minutes, Gruff manages to perfectly document our troubled and troubling times with humour, grace and always addictive melody. In a career that’s spanned three decades, two languages, multiple bands, offshoots, collaborations and one boundless imagination,Babelsberg is arguably Gruff’s finest set of songs to date. And we’re willing to have that argument.

The first track from Babelsberg, ‘Frontier Man’ is out now watch the video below.

DO NOT SLEEP, to host the main room at Amnesia, Ibiza

by the partae April 12, 2018
written by the partae

DO NOT SLEEP IBIZA’S FASTEST EMERGING HOUSE & TECHNO CLUB BRAND JOINS FORCES WITH ABODE ANNOUNCING NEW AMNESIA RESIDENCY EVERY THURSDAY DURING SUMMER 2018

 Do Not Sleep

Thursdays, Main Room Amnesia Ibiza

14th June to 27th September 2018

Do Not Sleep over the past few years has forged both a strong and resilient reputation with Ibiza’s underground.  With an impeccable track record of carefree dance floor camaraderie, Do Not Sleep has long been flying the flag for quality music as a strong party proposal. Their family of DJ’s and house music protagonists have been exploring the sounds of the underground to fuel Ibizan nights during past residencies at Privilege, Space and Sankeys. As the 2018 season is upon us they find their new spiritual home at one of the best-known and internationally renowned clubs Amnesia.

Summer 2018 sees Do NOT SLEEP joining forces with ABODE – another fast-emerging UK club brand which shares a parallel ethos alongside a strong international following and fanbase.  Delivering a contrasting but complimentary house sound, the two brands joining forces will unquestionably form a standout Thursday event for Ibiza in 2018 filling the space left by the legendary club brand Cream.

Do Not Sleep are proud to be hosting Thursdays at Amnesia with Abode who are fresh from their recent sell out Printworks, London show and several festival outings.

Long time resident DJ / Producer Darius Syrossian will return to the Do Not Sleep booth for 2018 and alongside both peers and protégés deliver and steer the underground events music-first policy.  A host of leading international underground talent will showcase the deeper and darker electronic sound perfectly suited and designed for the Amnesia main room.

Commenting on the approaching 2018 Season, Do Not Sleep’s Neil Evans states:

“When we first started Do Not Sleep I remember clearly that there was a strong desire to be nomadic, holding the ability to take our party vibe around the island in high regard. We have a big Thursday slot to humbly fill; but we are confident that the main room at Amnesia fits our sound entirely. Darker tracks that have real soul translate well in that space”

Darius Syrossian added further thought:  “It’s one of the few rooms left in ibiza where you can play both hard techno but also music which has a bit more depth & is a bit more soulful, both sounds work equally as good in that room and the sound system is deadly!

Do Not Sleep’s clubbing philosophy has been transparent from the start – inaugural parties capturing the excitement of unannounced guests and international artists paired with the adrenaline and atmosphere that they have now become tethered with.

Fundamentally rooted in the Ibizan spirit and focussing on delivering contemporary DJ’s across leading and emerging names of the underground scene there is a no-gimmick and inclusive emphasis that has successfully seen Do Not Sleep create parties around the world.

Portland folk songstress Johanna Warren shared the video for “Cleansed By Fire,” the meditative track off her acclaimed new album Gemini II, today. The clip, a piece about former lovers dissolving their broken bond and reclaiming autonomy, shows Warren dancing in ocean waves while singing in Icarus-inspired imagery: “We, two as one / Reached for the sun / Well, we tried.”

Gemini II is out now on Warren’s label Spirit House Records.
JOHANNA WARREN ON TOUR:
Johanna is currently on her Plant Medicine Tour — she’s been collaborating with local herbalists and biodynamic farmers in each city to talk about their work, and each performance involves an element of guided sound healing meditation. Warren is a certified Reiki master and will also be offering Reiki classes and private healing sessions in select cities.

PRAISE FOR GEMINI II:
“A view of a failed romance sung with meditative grace and intimations of heartache.” – New York Times
“Johanna Warren makes folk music that is at once heady and relatable, weaving the realities of heartache through mystical rituals and pastoral imagery.” – Pitchfork
“The spirit that animates much of Warren’s music and philosophy [is] an enduring belief that we can be better, despite the hurt and despair we put each other and ourselves through.” – NPR

“[Warren] poured her very essence into the tracks, filling them with references to the occult and mysticism that are part of her every day existence.” – Consequence of Sound
MORE ON JOHANNA WARREN:
When asked what motivates her to make music, Johanna Warren responds immediately: “Music is vibration; it’s a direct way to affect matter. A song is a way to journey into places of discord and then resolve back into harmony.” The Portland songwriter/multi-instrumentalist constructs complex, gossamer folk compositions that draw from the richness of the human experience and her own unique flavor of mysticism. Her 2015 sophomore album, numun, found its way on to several notable year end lists and led Rolling Stone Magazine to name her a “Songwriter You Need to Know.” In 2016 she founded Spirit House Records, a radically artist-friendly label for witches, healers and free spirits.

Last year, Warren also released Gemini I, the first of a pair of conceptually connected albums written and recorded in the throes of a rocky romantic relationship with another artist. “All the songs on both records are about a complicated three-year relationship with a Gemini man,” she says. “It was very much a ‘twin flame’ situation. We were working with bright light and intense shadow.” As a way to process this emotional chaos, Warren began to write in earnest as a form of self-therapy. Eschewing the more abstract lyricism of her earlier work, she began to create a suite of confessional songs about the blessing and the curse of romantic love.

The albums that resulted, Gemini I and Gemini II, are moody, bewitching records packed with layers of occult symbolism and personal mythology. Every song on Gemini I has a corresponding “twin” on II, linked by melodic motifs, lyrical content or production choices. Rather than the DIY recording setups that Warren and engineer/producer Bella Blasko had used previously, the Geminis were tracked at Dreamland studios in upstate New York. There, equipped with a sudden wealth of instruments and more sophisticated technology, Warren who arranges and play nearly everything on her records, felt free to explore. This spirit of experimentation is evident on the records. The songs retain the hushed warmth of previous releases Fates and numun, while expanding Warren’s sonic landscape in all directions.

Calpurnia Announce Debut EP ‘Scout’, New Song “Louie”

by the partae April 12, 2018
written by the partae
After the release of their debut single “City Boy” last month Calpurnia have truly arrived with the song being streamed more than 2 millions times and hitting number 1 on the Global Viral Spotify chart. Now the 4-piece, all friends from Vancouver, led by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things & It) are ready to announce their debut EP. Scout is everything you’d want it to be, 6 infectious guitar driven tracks, influenced by everyone from Mac DeMarco to the Rolling Stones. To celebrate the announcement Calpurnia have dropped another song“Louie,” check it out below.

Lead guitarist Ayla Tesler-Mabe notes, “”Louie” is the lively and colourful product of a studio transformation. This track features Colin Croom on piano, with himself and Cadien Lake James contributing the choir-boy harmonies and backing vocals that come in as the song builds. It was definitely the intention to record a song that sounded as live as possible, and we sincerely hope that this energy comes through to the listener when you listen to this track. Louie was an absolute blast to record. Finn recorded his guitar and vocals simultaneously to capture exactly what he was feeling in the moment, and this track finally gave Ayla the chance to play slide guitar, as well as the Keith Richards inspired lead you hear at the end. Jack’s groovy bass line keeps the song moving along until Malcolm comes crashing in on the drums. The lyrics are written from the perspective of a guy who always leaves his partner, and though she does everything she can to hold down the fort at home, he never shows up. The guitar solo is meant to convey the longing she feels for him to come home, and the loneliness she feels without him at her side.”
Calpurnia recently announced 2 shows, one in Atlanta and the second in LA. Both sold out immediately but watch this space for more dates.
Wolfhard recently sat down with Pitchfork to discuss what he’s listening to right now, you can read all about it here.
Pre-order Scout here.

Taao Kross

by the partae April 11, 2018
written by the partae

How did you first start playing electro and progressive house?

I started very young and at home, I imagine that like almost everyone. First trying to mix with cassette and later with turntables!

What do you attribute to your success?

I believe success in life in general, and at a professional level I still have a long way to go, although I

am working hard to achieve it!

Your recent track ‘Evolet’ is out now, where and when did you record it?

Evolet came up very quickly, the sound came to my mind and I shot it in the studio. It’s a club sound,

now I’m just working in another direction.

What inspired the songwriting for Evolet?

I needed to transmit something fresh, with punch, with much joy and it was achieved.

You had a massive touring schedule in 2017, what do you find most rewarding and challenging of maintaining such a busy schedule?

I love to be on tour continuously, this year we have the obligation to overcome 2017 in everything.

I have to keep doing a lot in my career and I do not want to stop. I want more shows, more

productions, more collaborations and even more interviews … hahahaha

You had a massive residency at Pacha, how did you prepare for each show?

I really like to improvise, I am one of those who look at the track and give them what they ask for.

Although after so many shows at PACHA I already know the public well and I like to drive them crazy.

What do you think think is the key to a successful string of residency shows such as the Pacha shows?

Hard work, passion, a lot of sacrifice, a lot of excitement … all this is what TAAO KROSS adds up

every day to keep taking steps in the industry.

What do you have planned for the rest of 2018 in Ibiza and the rest of the world?

Keep working, soon I can reveal that you will be with me at IBIZA, but there are very nice things,

many shows in many countries and a lot of music to play

You have all the info on my website … www.taaokrossmusic.com

Are you or will you be working on new music?

I’m working on a lot of music, on incredible things that excite me a lot, on completely new sounds, I

want to innovate in the electronic scene and I have to get there!

What influences your songwriting and sound as a whole?

It influences me from my life day to day, experience, the family … I try to relate the sounds to

everything that surrounds me.

 Favourite place to hangout?

IBIZA I adore her for all that she has given me, for all that she gives me and for all that we are going

to do together.

What hobbies do you have outside of music?

Enjoy the family, my friends from my city and the other life outside the shows and music.

Red Bull Music Festival New York Announces Reggaetón: Hasta Abajo with The Noise (Ivy Queen, DJ Nelson and more)

by the partae April 11, 2018
written by the partae
Reggaetón: Hasta Abajo with The Noise live (Ivy Queen, DJ Nelson, Ranking Stone, Alberto Stylee, Wiso G, DJ Negro), DJ Lobo, Rosa Pistola, and Riobamba.
NEW YORK, NY (April 10th, 2018)- Red Bull Music Festival New York returns this May for a sixth year with another diverse program of original events, world premieres, and talks with icons and innovators. The festival’s Hasta Abajo (Get Down) event, a high-voltage tribute to tropical urban sound, has added Reggaetón royalty Ivy Queen to a bill that spotlights the impact of genre pioneers and the new wave of Latinx culture shifters. Tickets are on sale via nyc.redbullmusicfestival.com.
Over the last two decades Reggaetón has become a globally dominating genre that increasingly delivers record-smashing impact on music sales, streams and pop-culture influence. Hasta Abajo features Reggaetón trailblazers Ivy Queen, DJ Nelson, Ranking Stone, Alberto Stylee, Wiso G, and DJ Negro, performing as The Noise, the group who helped blaze the pathway for the genre’s international trajectory from the barrios of Puerto Rico to the world. Also performing is industry legend DJ Lobo, and rising música urbana stars, Riobamba and Rosa Pistola, two artists who are leading Reggaetón’s evolution from the streets of Brooklyn and Mexico City, respectively. The event takes place Saturday, May 19th at Uptown Manhattan’s famed Latino nightlife hub, La Marina.
Ivy Queen, aka “La Diva” and the “Queen of Reggaetón”, launched her career in the late nineties with The Noise. Her empowering message and lyrics have and will continue to inspire women across generations and nations, including fellow Latina musician Cardi B., to hold their own mic and speak their truth. The collaborators orbiting her chart-topping discography, which features classics like “Yo Quiero Bailar”, include Wyclef, Pitbull, Sasha, Don Omar, and Edinta Nazario. Her notorious appetite for style reinvention and her signature long fingernails, along with a string of award-winning performances, keeps the spotlight firmly in her clutch, helping her maintain her iconic status as one of the most prominent forces in Latin music.
Emerging Latinx fatales, Rosa Pistola and Riobamba, will also blaze the “Hasta Abajo” stage, showcasing female excellence and futurism within an often male-dominated genre. Rosa Pistola gained international notoriety for her affinity for global bass tunes and “Perreo”, a gritty and sultry form of Latin dance and song derived from the roots of dancehall. It’s considered a supporting subgenre, acting as a vein extended from Reggaetón’s main arteries. Multi-faceted Ecuadorian-Lithuanian and Brooklyn-based DJ, producer, activist and Latinx culture usher, Riobamba spins a web of hypnotizing mashups, blending original music and classic tracks. Together, this powerful ensemble of history-makers will ignite passion in live music fans with a nostalgic reason to get down and give the community a space to celebrate and rise up.
Taking place throughout May, the widely praised annual festival has become a New York City institution featuring performances by today’s most forward-looking musicians; tributes to legendary artists, scenes, and sounds; and conversations with impactful, innovative musicians. The shows will unfold throughout the boroughs at some of NYC’s most unique settings, from iconic institutions to uncharted spaces completely re-configured for the occasion.

In addition to the events, Red Bull Music Festival New York will tell original stories through editorial content on RedBullMusic.com. Red Bull Radio (www.redbullradio.com) will also feature a month of NYC-focused programming, including event live streams, special broadcasts from Red Bull Arts New York, and more.

Critical Acclaim for Rare Birds:
“Rare Birds is easily Wilson’s most lavishly orchestrated work… At once cosmic and chillingly immediate, Rare Birds shows Wilson exploring the many possible outcomes of that old equation of inspiration – heartbreak plus time equals art… He’s an utterly original and irreverent thinker who’s evolving with blinding speed.” – NPR
“(A) most magnificent recording, one that is mandatory listening if you are in search of an immersive album rock experience in the 21st century.” – Billboard
“…strikingly original, beautifully crafted and filled with powerful and memorable songs. With a lush rock sound that recalls recent albums by The War on Drugs, Wilco and others, “Rare Birds” uses familiar sounds to take you on a totally new journey — and it’s an album in the classic sense, where the songs add up to more than the sum of their parts.” – Variety
“Wilson’s latest nods at Zappa, Talk Talk, Peter Gabriel and The Byrds… Rare Birds unpacks a wealth of sonic detail… This feels like a record you could lose yourself in for months.” – MOJO – (4 Stars)
“Rare Birds is sprawling, rich and, by and large, a triumph.” – The Guardian (4 Stars)
“Wilson turns in an album that backs up his skills from behind the scenes for other artists. Give this guy the spotlight too.” – EarBuddy
“dizzying in ambition … dazzling in execution” – All Music

Claptone Takes The Masquerade Ball Australia Wide!

Saturday 12th May: Groovin The Moo, Bunbury WA
Saturday 12th May: Masquerade Ball @ Metro City, Perth
Sunday 13th May: Masquerade Ball @ La Laguana, Bali

Claptone is a name we all know too well. Hiding his true identity while awing the masses, the masked enigma has been dominating the dance world for half a decade – and his force only continues to grow stronger.

The list of industry leaders Claptone has worked with is nothing short of incredible, remixing stars such as the Gorillaz, New Order and Gregory Porter, Pet Shop Boys, Rüfüs and more. His music has penetrated the industry’s main artery and spread into every possible venue that it can. More recently Claptone announced the his upcoming album ‘Fantast’, and since the announcement two tracks from the album have been released: ‘In the Night ft. Ben Duffy‘ and ‘Stay the Night ft. Tender‘.

After selling out his Melbourne Masquerade Ball in record time last November, Claptone returns to Australia to take the specialty event across the continent. Adding to the tour, the five shows will be complimented with one of Australia’s leading music festivals, Groovin The Moo.

Listen to Claptone’s Clapcast #140

In a now long forgotten world, many generations ago, a bird like shape emerged from wooded darkness, oating and uttering, drifting and dreaming. Backlit by a bright glow of iridescent light,
the undecipherable form wore a dazzling golden mask. Its long beak swooped down like an inverted horn and since then, people have referred to the mythical being simply as Claptone.

Years spending wandering medieval landscapes have informed Claptone’s view of the world, experiencing both magical mystery and muted melancholy he enchanted onlookers with occult instruments and beguiling sounds. Forever surrounded by a sense of intrigue, the world soon cottoned on to the elusive yet enchanting musical powers of this otherworldly beast. The results are that today his shamanistic sonic powers take him all around the world.

Yet despite the best e orts of the hungry masses, the mysterious Claptone still remains a mythical, little known gure who slips in and out of the shadows, leaving in his wake lasting musical experiences. Since hatching in 2012, he has continued to send people into a frenzy with his DJ sets, which are underpinned
by supple grooves from the house world, are coloured with real soul and can jack you up or zone you out depending on the mood. For that reason, last year they won him countless awards from Miami to the White Isle.

To stay so private and unknown in the visual modern world of likes and photos is no mean feat, especially considering he plays more than 260 shows around the world each year. He does so as the centrepiece of his own immersive and otherworldly The Masquerade Events everywhere from Amnesia Ibiza to Webster Hall in NYC, and also with his Immortal Live shows at places like Melt! Festival, Coachella and SW4 as well as at Listen Out in Australia. In 2017, the mystical form and enchanting sonic conjurer takes the unique experience that is one of his Masquerade events to Paris, Miami and Venice, as well as his own stage at Tomorrowland. Yet because of his strong shamanistic powers, he leaves people spell bound and lost in music, rather than concerned about who or what it is they see before them. To keep his followers at bay, Claptone appeases them with musical trails, such as his weekly podcast, which is broadcast on more than 70 radio stations and has been downloaded more than ve million times. He also allows them into a little corner of his ephemeral world by o ering up his own t-shirts and masks, and continues to confound them with musical o erings. These include The Masquerade mixed by Claptone – a double CD release which was Mixmag’s album of the month – and soon will include his next o cial mix CD for Tomorrowland’s Daybreak Sessions, due in 2017, while his unique remixes of diverse international stars like Gorillaz, New Order and Gregory Porter, Pet Shop Boys and Faithless, Bastille and Metronomy continue to excite.

In order to soak in the music, emotions and colours of the world — as well as remaining a tirelessly and innovative creative force – Claptone stays anonymous and hides in unknown places and spaces. In turn, he then gives back by forging strong hedonistic vibes with his crowds and shows them a way to their own emotions. He empowers them, gives them hope and new energy, and will continue to do so well into the next life.

GANG GANG DANCE return with new album Kazuashita + share lead track ‘Lotus’

by the partae April 11, 2018
written by the partae

After a seven-year hiatus, Gang Gang Dance have announced their return. One of the most enduring and creatively vibrant musical acts of 21st Century New York, their new album Kazuashita will be released onFriday 22nd June via 4AD / Remote Control Records.

The band today reveal ‘Lotus’, the lead track taken from the record, it’s an ecstatic mix of deranged soul and hazy synthesizer ambience. Listen via the image below.

Kazuashita – the band’s first record together since the acclaimed Eye Contact in 2011 – is an intoxicating mix of shoegaze and electronic ambience, all held together by Lizzi Bougatsos and her otherworldly vocal. Bougatsos, alongside founding members Brian DeGraw and Josh Diamond, formed the group as an improvisational outfit in the early 2000s, and have consistently worked to blur the boundaries between music and art; as comfortable today performing at the Whitney Biennial as they are at Coachella and count Dash Snow & Nate Lowman, Tinchy Stryder and the Boredoms as previous collaborators.

Kazuashita was produced by DeGraw after recording sessions across several New York studios and art spaces, the band worked with drummer Ryan Sawyer (who met the band through theBoredoms’ BOADRUM project) and Jorge Elbrecht (who worked on additional production and mixing duties). Featuring a cover image from photographer David Benjamin Sherry.

NINES shares new single and video ‘I See You Shining’

by the partae April 11, 2018
written by the partae

Nines returns with new single ‘I See You Shining’ via XL Recordings / Remote Control, his first new music since the release of last year’s wildly successful debut LP One Foot Out.

“When you was inside watching Netflix, I was in the crop house wiring electrics.”

Hailing from the Church Road Estate in North West London, Nines’ easily recognisable laid-back flow takes a turn for the anthemic on ‘I See You Shining’. Co-produced by Steel Banglez (Dave, MIST, J Hus) and Zeph Ellis, ‘I See You Shining’ takes Nines’ favourite catchphrase and puts it centre stage on a track that’s an ode to the good life. Pouring buds from a cereal box, levitating and decked out in Louis Vuitton, Nines turns up the feel-good factor to make one of the songs of the season.
