The opening track on EP1, it’s a showcase for the breadth and confidence of The Lazy Eyes, a moment of loosening that collects all the pyrotechnics they’ve crammed into the 'Cheesy Love Song' and 'Tangerine' and allows them room to breathe. Of the track, the band remark that: “The Seaside is a nostalgic song for us because it’s amongst the earliest songs that the band explored playing together. It was around this time that we were really getting into guitar pedals too and trying to make as full and as exciting a sound we could in a live setting.” The appropriateness of the full-circle timing is not lost on the band, who share that: “listening back to the recording reminds us of those formative years when we were learning to arrange our songs for a live setting and becoming closer as friends and as a band." THE LAZY EYES RELEASE EP1 LISTEN TO LATEST SINGLE ‘THE SEASIDE’

by the partae June 19, 2020
written by the partae

PRAISE FOR THE LAZY EYES

“Sydney teens’ debut release shows makings of a psych giant.”
NME Magazine (4 stars)

“If Brian Wilson joined Tame Impala for a day”
DIY Magazine

“Now nostalgia aficionados don’t have to root around in cool vinyl sections to discover the past, because The Lazy Eyes are the future.”
The Line of Best Fit

“A pristine psych-addled slice of guitar pop, complete with undulating piano chords and some gorgeous, watery effects on the guitar.”
Clash Music

“A stellar burst out of the gates from a band with a hell of a lot of promise ahead of them.”
Pilerats

“Sydney foursome The Lazy Eyes are still in their late teens, but possess a musical depth beyond their years.”
Tone Deaf

“You know when you listen to a song or an artist and you don’t know exactly why or how, but you can feel something special. This is a prime example of that”
Declan Byrne (triple j Unearthed)

“The hype is real. Believe it.”
Life Without Andy

Sydney four-piece The Lazy Eyes have today released their debut EP, EP1, out now independently. Listen HERE.

The release of their debut EP caps off an impressive opening half of the year for these 19-year olds who began 2020 having taken their buzz national with their much-talked-about BIGSOUND appearances in late 2019, being named as an act to watch by triple j, Happy Mag and more, before they had even released their debut single, ‘Cheesy Love Song’, which eventually landed in January, followed by ‘Tangerine’ in April.

The strength of their first two singles saw the foursome adorned with praise from DIY Mag, NME Australia, The Line of Best Fit, i-D, RAGE and more, scoring rotation additions across FBi Radio, SYN, 2SER, and others and bestowed with triple j Unearthed’s coveted feature artist slot for the last week of April. Within the space of six months, the four high school friends from Sydney have graduated from jamming in their suburban basement to word-of-mouth must-see-live-act in their hometown to one of the breakthrough Australian acts of the year.

Where their first two singles – one a dreamy, patiently unspooling piece of psychedelia and the other a kaleidoscopic pop blur climaxing in a blistering guitar solo – showed off divergent sides to the band, the previously unreleased ‘The Seaside’ condenses them into the one multi-part experience. Replete with constantly shifting instrumentation, slippery guitar tones, and the dream-logic structure of Brian Wilson’s most adventurous excursions, ‘The Seaside’ takes the adroit musicality of their previous singles and stretches it out to a sprawling, luxuriant, seven-minute journey.

The opening track on EP1, it’s a showcase for the breadth and confidence of The Lazy Eyes, a moment of loosening that collects all the pyrotechnics they’ve crammed into the ‘Cheesy Love Song‘ and ‘Tangerine‘ and allows them room to breathe.

Of the track, the band remark that: “The Seaside is a nostalgic song for us because it’s amongst the earliest songs that the band explored playing together. It was around this time that we were really getting into guitar pedals too and trying to make as full and as exciting a sound we could in a live setting.”

The appropriateness of the full-circle timing is not lost on the band, who share that: “listening back to the recording reminds us of those formative years when we were learning to arrange our songs for a live setting and becoming closer as friends and as a band.”

Immigrant Union – JUDAS album out today via Cheersquad Records & Tapes

“refreshing and revitalizing, filling your soul with much-needed warmth and energy.” – The Revue

“The sound has a dreamy sway and sweet drum shuffle, part Strawberry Fields, part shoe gaze and part bedroom pop.” – American Pancake

“It reminds me of something Jason Quever of Papercuts might do; it has this sly psychedelic backbone, but it’s wrapped in all these beautiful little nuggets of pure pop and atmospheric haze that truly does move you with its sweeping arrangement.” – Austin Town Hall

Australian-American outfit Immigrant Union drop new album JUDAS featuring 2020 singles ‘Ahmed’ and ‘Soldier Field’

Fronted by Brent DeBoer of The Dandy Warhols (US) and boasting Aussie indie rock queen and Grammy nominee Courtney Barnett and her bandmates as former members, Immigrant Union are a local band with international rock royalty heritage. With their unique Australian-American psychedelic/folk/country sound, Immigrant Union have supported Noel Gallagher and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and toured their own headline shows, creating unforgettable moments at boutique festivals, occasional BBQs and the odd house party across Australia.

Their third album JUDAS features relative newcomers Ben Street (bass) and Paddy McGrath-Lester (drums) who join founding members Brent DeBoer, Bob Harrow and Peter Lubulwa for the first time following the Barnett-trio’s departure of ‘13. Recorded in Melbourne and mixed in Portland, Oregon, JUDAS combines Immigrant Union’s signature Americana elements with brilliant rad rock to present their most explorative sound yet.

The album was attacked from a completely different angle than Immigrant Union’s first two records, allowing the band to have virtually no time constraints whatsoever when recording. Naturally, this meant that they were able to employ a bunch of different techniques and tactics using weird instruments generally consisting of toys belonging to Brent’s two kids. An Elmo toy that screws with a person’s voice, for instance, is used on a few tracks as well as several toy percussive instruments peppered throughout.

Sonically, the band kinda wanted the album to sound like Len’s “Steal my Sunshine.” Once the album had been tracked, Bob and Brent travelled to Portland and had Brandon Eggleston mix it at the Odditorium. The result consists of stand out moments like first lifted single ‘New Win’, a stream of consciousness song mining thoughts for past experiences with love and loss, and 2019 follow up ‘Jewels In The Sky’ which reflects on the novel joy of doing absolutely nothing with someone you love.

2020 saw the release of the melancholic mantra that is ‘Soldier Field’, a song blending layers of guitar, a tinkling of chimes and a bubbling drone to create a soft psychedelic undercurrent for DeBoer’s tender lyricism to nestle upon as he recalls a time of great loss and the relief of coming out the other side in one piece. Final focus track ‘Ahmed‘ navigates the dense thought process of westerners who treat foreigners like shit. The band are also stoked to have collaborated with Italian artist, Galo, who created the JUDAS cover art.

As well the release of their first LP in five years, 2020 will also see Immigrant Union release a short film, ‘The Battle of Bella’, shot in Joshua Tree, CA. The film stars bandmates Bob and Brent as well as music from JUDAS as the soundtrack and was written and directed by acclaimed indie filmmaker, Mike Bruce. Stay tuned and keep an ear to the ground for its upcoming release. In the meantime wrap your ears around the woozy psychedelic sounds of JUDAS, and smoke ’em if you got ’em.

The masters of groove wrote and recorded the highly-anticipated follow-up to 2018's Chiaroscuro over 18 months, and discussing the expectation they felt to deliver on this record, Ocean Alley shared "The pressure was immense for the band but also for each of us individually. We had never been so exposed to critique like that before and it's not something we ever expected to experience when we started doing this. At times we all felt a bit out of control but it was important for us to go through it together so we can back each other up." The band chronicled Lonely Diamond's conception and progression with their Constructing The Diamond video series which gave a behind-the-scenes look into their studio jam sessions, featuring previously released singles 'Stained Glass', 'Infinity', 'Tombstone' and 'Hot Chicken', as well as previewing album highlights such as 'Way Down' and 'All Worn Out.' While much of Ocean Alley's allure stems from their cruisey, laid-back swagger, the core themes of the album provide a darker snapshot of the impact that life on the road can have, exploring feelings of escapism and isolation. "We had a pretty hectic touring schedule and spent a lot of time travelling which made us feel isolated at times. That constant pressure to perform whilst also managing things back home took a toll differently on us all. For us, music is a way to escape those feelings and doing it together has really reinforced how important it is to lean on each other when we have to. Music is our way of unwinding and helps remind ourselves to have fun and enjoy life. Music has a special way of doing that." They continued, "Mental health can be a touchy subject but it shouldn’t be. Because we are very open with each other, that helps dissolve strong feelings and allows us to move forward together. The first step in breaking down barriers with other people is breaking down those barriers within yourself and realising that no one is perfect and everyone has bad days. When you can love and support yourself, then you are in the perfect position to care for and support others." Fresh off signing to international label, Rude Records, Arizona’s Sundressed have released another new single, “Oh Please”. With the new song the band has announced the “Oh Please” Video contest. Starting tomorrow fans will be able to submit videos of themselves singing along to “Oh Please,” for the chance to have one bill paid by Sundressed and Rude Records’ newly launched Rude Cares charitable arm.

“I see this song as almost like a millennial anthem. So many of us are in debt, broke, and without healthcare. This song represents mine as well as many close friends frustration with these types of situations,” explains frontman Trevors Hedges.

Living on such a chaotic planet, tossing and turning is inevitable. It’s hard to sleep in the midst of uncertainty. That’s why Sundressed was born. Lead vocalist and songwriter Trevor Hedges began his project in 2012, with the initial purpose of maintaining his sobriety. Now, 8 years later, Hedges has refocused the project’s mission, writing songs that tackle mental health issues for others to take solace in. His confessional lyrics and punk-infused melodies inspire hope in listeners to continue moving forward.

With the addition of AJ Peacox (guitar), Vic Chan (drums), Matthew Graham and Justin Portillo, Sundressed has never sounded better. With new music produced by Mike Pepe (Taking Back Sunday) dropping this year, the band is determined to make a positive impact, one lyric at a time.

The “Oh Please” video contest marks the first initiative of many under Rude Cares, a brand new platform from Rude Records which will allow them to continue helping their artists, fans and charities doing incredible work across the globe.

Although Rude Records has been actively involved in charitable efforts for years, including work with Keep A Breast and other localized organizations, the idea of Rude Cares stemmed from recent conversations with Sundressed, who was determined to give back by offering to pay outstanding bills to one of their fans who may be struggling during this trying and testing time.

‘Oh Please’ is available worldwide now through Rude Records

STUPID BABY REVEAL FRENETIC ACCOMPANYING VIDEO CLIP FOR SINGLE ‘MR. ZIL’

“Stupid Baby showing off a different side straight away with a spitty, snarling punk rock angle on this one. I’m hearing The Drones influence bleeding nicely into this.” – 4/5 stars
Declan Byrne – triple j (AUS)

“The growl Stupid Baby possess in this track is striking. It’s angsty and relentless and I love it.” – 4/5 stars
Claire Mooney – triple j (AUS)

“With relentless drums, scorching guitars and thumping bass, the angsty track leaves nothing up to the imagination.”
Hysteria Magazine (AUS)

Added to Apple Music’s ‘The New Rock’

Following on from the release of their critically praised follow-up single ‘Mr Zil’, NSW Central Coast-based indie-punk quartet Stupid Baby have returned with the accompanying video clip – edited by co-lead vocalists Jake Dobson and Liz Drummond, and Jack Stafford (re._stacks).

With the on-set of isolation in March-April, the band shot the whole video on their iPhones at each of their houses. Being unable to film something with a complex narrative, they instead each got dressed up and performed their own interpretations of the track, creating something hilarious, with just the right amount of weird.

Dobson explains the process behind filming ‘Mr. Zil’:

“The whole isolation experience has just confirmed you can still make a fairly entertaining video with no budget, using an iPhone. This song is fairly chaotic, and character driven, and we didn’t necessarily want to make a video that was aesthetically sophisticated or refined anyway. So, we think the DIY approach worked well considering the circumstances.”

While only in their infancy, the group have already toured and shared stages with the likes of The Chats, The Smith Street Band, Pist Idiots, Skegss, Ocean Alley, Polish Club and WAAX. The band also recently performed at the sold-out Rolling Sets festival held in January in Coffs Harbour, alongside Hilltop Hoods, The Rubens, Lime Cordiale, Mallrat and George Alice.

Both ‘Mr Zil’ and debut single ‘Feline’ have been warmly received by Australian radio including airplay from triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, 2SER, 4ZZZ, SYN FM, Radio Adelaide and 2XX FM. Online music sites and tastemakers Pilerats, Life Without Andy, Hysteria Magazine, Music Feeds, The AU Review, AAA Backstage, The Soundcheck, Ear to the Ground Music (USA) and The Girls at the Rock Show (USA) have also featured the tracks.

Nat Vazer shares Twin Peaks inspired DIY video for ‘Higher Places’ + East Coast album launch shows

“A powerful record which has seen the support community radio around the country, whether it be by a playlist add or a feature album, Vazer has undoubtedly created one of the year’s most immersive releases.” – Tyler Jenke, Rolling Stone Australia

Following the highly anticipated release of her debut album Is This Offensive And Loud? Melbourne artist Nat Vazer is thrilled to finally be able to announce a run of East Coast album launch shows over the next month. The intimate live performer will be hitting up Melbourne’s Small Time, Beer Mash and Rocksteady Records as well as heading up the coast for a pair of shows at Wollongong’s Music Farmers and Brisbane’s Jet Black Cat. To celebrate the exciting news, Nat is gifting fans with another dreamy video clip, this time for her latest focus single ‘Higher Places’.

“The clip was filmed at Manorism studios which used to be a theatre in the 1940s and 50s. We wanted to capture the essence of a past-time for this video so I thought the studio would suit that, and it was also pretty versatile which was handy for all the different scenes. We filmed the clip over a 9 hour day but most of that time was actually spent on constructing the set, playing around with different ideas and working out the lighting situ.

There’s this theme of otherworldliness and play with light and dark which has been very much influenced by David Lynch’s ‘Twin Peaks’. But the idea of the smokey haze, the silhouettes and having an old phone and TV on set is also taken from the neo-noir film ‘Lost Highway’ which is a classic Lynch film.

As we were in isolation, the filming was a slow process with only two of us. We also had a limited budget so all our props were secondhand and picked up from Facebook Marketplace and hard rubbish. It was a very DIY approach – we used zip ties, a metal rod and cut up fabric to make curtains.” – Nat Vazer

“The film clip was recorded during isolation. So we had a small budget, limited resources and we also had to build our own set. We had to try and create a vast, ethereal landscape and create many locations using one studio space. To achieve that, we had to dress up the set in different ways. We threw in extra lighting and borrowed a smoke machine from friends at Lulie Tavern in Abbotsford. They told us we had to get our own ‘rave juice’. We didn’t know what that was so we went and got regular smoke machine juice from a local music shop.” – Benjamin Joel

Praise has already been pouring in for Vazer’s debut album released 29 May via Hotel Motel Records, garnering acclaim both at home and abroad from online publications, national broadcasters and community radio stations throughout the country, and selling out her first vinyl pressing in days. Do not miss your chance to catch Nat Vazer present songs from her stunning debut Is This Offensive And Loud?

ARCA Shares new single ‘Mequetrefe’ New album KiCk i out next week! Featuring appearances from Björk, Rosalía, Shygirl & SOPHIE

Early praise for KiCk i

“the record to elevate her from electronic music’s experimental sandbox to pop music’s vanguard” – Pitchfork

“KiCk i feels like her breakout moment, a well-deserved coronation” – Stereogum

“a perfect piece of modern pop” – BBC Radio 6Music (Time)

Today Arca has premiered a new single ‘Mequetrefe,’ featured on her upcoming album KiCk i, due out June 26th (w/ vinyl available on July 17th) on XL Recordings / Remote Control Records.

In Arca’s own words, “the song “Mequetrefe” invokes the tenderness behind expressing who you are without shame, and the confidence and bravery it requires, because expression of gender-nonconforming self-states in a public space can often result in static within your environment.” A word that Arca heard growing up in Venezuela, it was more commonly used in a derogatory way towards men, but here Arca suggests flipping the script on the colloquial use of “mequetrefe” to portray a new archetype of masculinity and the results shines through on this club track that shimmers with trippy fractal beauty.

Arca, KiCk i  defines a new era of multiplex harmony for the Venezuelan artist, singer, DJ, performer and experimental music composer.  With appearances from Björk, Rosalía, Shygirl and SOPHIE, this is the first time Arca has invited collaborators into her world, previously having lent her sound to some of the decades most avant-pop artists. To introduce the project, she first shared ‘Nonbinary‘ and her single ‘Time,‘ which is featured in Chanel’s new short-film HERE, presenting their 2020/21 Cruise Collection. With them. declaring, “Arca’s work is beyond innovative…her vision for the future of pop is so thrilling,” and Pitchfork noting Arca’s ability to “continue to create a singular world,” Arca, a nonbinary Latinx transwoman, is redefining the role of the diva for a new generation.

Pre-order / pre-save Arca – KiCk i: https://arca.ffm.to/kicki

Ahead of June 26th releases: Pre-add KiCk i in advance of its release and enter-to-win the heels Arca wore in the ‘Anoche’ music video. More information on her IG HERE, enter to win HERE.

Ahead of and on July 17th:  KiCk i will be available on vinyl (single LP in a gatefold jacket, with a 16-page booklet of original art by Arca) and CD (in a black trigger ejector case). Also special KiCk i vinyl bundles will be available with t-shirts featuring album artwork by Carlota Guerrero and Nonbinary visual by Frederik Heyman. More available at Arca’s new merch store HERE.

Arca – KiCk i is out digitally on June 26, physically on July 17
via XL Recordings / Remote Control.

"Charlie knows how to make a compelling track AND how to wring the last drops of emotion out of it.” – Dave Ruby Howe "Charlie Gradon’s talent is seemingly uncontainable." - Life Without Andy Sydney melancholic strummer Charlie Gradon takes a more upbeat approach on new single 'Blurry Ones' from his forthcoming sophomore EP. ‘Blurry Ones’ was written when Gradon bought his wife a vintage camera which took, as Gradon describes, “basically useless blurry photographs". Born in his bedroom studio, the track sounds just like the blurry images Gradon sings of - nostalgic and reflective indie-rock. CHARLIE GRADON BUILDS THE TEMPO ON NOSTALGIC NEW SINGLE ‘BLURRY ONES’

“Charlie knows how to make a compelling track AND how to wring the last drops of emotion out of it.” – Dave Ruby Howe
“Charlie Gradon’s talent is seemingly uncontainable.” – Life Without Andy

Sydney melancholic strummer Charlie Gradon takes a more upbeat approach on new single ‘Blurry Ones’ from his forthcoming sophomore EP.

‘Blurry Ones’ was written when Gradon bought his wife a vintage camera which took, as Gradon describes, “basically useless blurry photographs”. Born in his bedroom studio, the track sounds just like the blurry images Gradon sings of – nostalgic and reflective indie-rock.

Earlier this year Gradon resurfaced with the mellow single ‘Grieving’ which found a home on radio, reaching #3 on the AMRAP Metro Radio Charts along with adds on FBi Radio, 2SER and EDGE.

With the world in an extended period of reflection Charlie Gradon is here with the perfect soundtrack.
