GLASS ANIMALS MAKE GOOD ON THEIR PROMISE FOLLOWING 2021 HOTTEST 100 WIN & GET AUSTRALIAN THEMED TATTOOS ON THEIR BACKSIDES

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES:

Thursday 14 July – HBF Stadium, Perth

Saturday 16 July – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (SOLD OUT)

Tuesday 19 July – John Cain Arena, Melbourne

TICKETS

After promising fans back in January 2021 that if ‘Heatwaves’ win the triple j Hottest 100 they would get Australia themed tattoos on their backsides, one year later they finally have done it with Dave (lead singer) getting an Australian map and Drew (guitarist) getting a koala.

“here’s the deal: heatwaves on top of the pile in @tripleJ hottest 100 = australia tattooed to each of our buttocks, not each cheek obvs. inked on us 4eva as a sign of our love for the greatest sporting country on earth. we are absolutely serious about this,” they wrote on social media last year.

“My mum is going to be livid,” lead singer Dave says in an Instagram video posted on Sunday.

It has been a year since the band promised to get the tattoos (which are the first for them both) and blame covid lockdowns for the delay. “sorry it took so long to get em done covid is a f**ker. X” Dave writes in an Instagram Post.

Glass Animals will be touring Australia later this year with the tour kicking off in Perth at HBF Stadium on Thursday 14 July, followed by Hordern Pavilion in Sydney and John Cain Arena in Melbourne.

Glass Animals are set to play their biggest shows in Australia yet. Having performed massive sell out shows across the USA and UK the ‘Dreamland’ tour is going to be a mind-bending live experience not to be missed.

‘Dreamland’ is the band’s third album and features the smash single ‘Heat Waves’ which most notably was crowned number 1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 – an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish. They’ve entered the triple j Hottest 100 for a second year consecutively coming in at #23 for their single “I Don’t Wanna Talk”.

‘Heat Waves’ held the No.1 spot on the ARIA Official Singles Chart in Australia for six consecutive weeks, marking the band’s first #1 single globally. The single has spent 51 weeks in the top 10 of ARIA chart, surpassing ‘Dance Monkey’s’ record for the most weeks in the top 10 in ARIA history. The accolades continue with ‘Heat Waves’ becoming the most streamed song in Australia in 2021 with over 110 million streams (2.4 billion globally) and hitting 8 x Platinum.

Grapevine Gathering 2022 Photo/Review

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

The Grapevine Gathering was in back in fine form at Rochford Wines in Victoria after an earlier cancellation in NSW. The festival drew thousands of eager people ready to party and soak up the summer vibes.

The festival was an absolute scorcher. In the 34 degree heat and searing sun,  Creature Fear played tracks from their EP and new tunes written during lockdown to an enthusiastic crowd. Melbourne locals Rest For the Wicked showcased their eclectic mix of electronica and indie pop.

Things heated up when The Veronicas hit the stage performing crowd anthems “Untouched” and “4ever”. Vera Blue had the crowd in the palm of her hand as she opened her 45 minute set with “Temper”, and included female favourite “Lady Powers”, “Settle”, and “Lie to Me”.

The sun was beginning to set and weather was cooling down when Jungle Giants hit the stage. But they keep the heat up. Festival goers were in full swing as the band performed 110% and celebrated their song “Love Signs”  hitting number 18 in the Triple J’s 2021 Hottest 100.

Peking Duk closed the festival with a blazing electronic set accompanied with plenty of pyro, confetti, streamers, and amazing visuals. They certainly set a standard for festival headliners!

DEAR SEATTLE REVEAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE ‘WAY OUT’ + ANNOUNCE RESCHEDULED WAY OUT NATIONAL TOUR DATES + TEASE 2022 ALBUM

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

Dear Seattle are bringing in 2022 with the reveal of a brand new music video for their latest single ‘Way Out’ today. Fresh from the track snagging a coveted full rotation add on triple j, the band perform their impassioned and memorable new cut set to the backdrop of a homely lounge room.

Speaking more on the video, Dear Seattle frontman Brae Fisher shares:

“We wanted to strip things right back to the core of Dear Seattle on this video. All we wanted was to play in a room together again. It’s something we’ve missed for so long, and to be able to come together again like that was special so we hope people can feel that with us.”

The Australian rock favourites are also announcing a slew of rescheduled dates for their NSW shows today.

“Despite having the tour pulled out from us a second time the week of, we haven’t let it dampen our spirits,” Brae adds. “If anything it’s made us more eager to blow the head off it when these shows finally happen.”

Marking the band’s first time playing a headline tour since selling out their 2019 Don’t Let Go album run, Dear Seattle will now play an extensive run of shows around the country throughout February and March. Full dates and ticket details below.

Crunchy and memorable, ‘Way Out’ finds Brae deep-diving into themes like codependency and resentment building in a relationship lacking honest communication and personal space. In the same vein as their 2021 ‘In My Head’ release, ‘Way Out’ finds the band heading in a more nuanced and mature musical direction, while still holding true to the classic Dear Seattle chant-along choruses and emotionally-charged storytelling heard on their previous releases.

On this note, Dear Seattle fans should stay closely tuned to the band’s socials as they soon prepare to announce details of their sophomore full-length album.

About Dear Seattle:
After snapping heads with their 2017 self-titled EP, (spawning tours with the likes of Tired Lion, Balance And Composure, Hockey Dad and Trophy Eyes, and festival slots on Groovin’ The Moo, UNIFY, Festival Of The Sun and Party In The Paddock), Dear Seattle asserted themselves as one of Australia’s most exciting young rock acts with the release of their 2019 debut full-length Don’t Let Go.Exploring the stress and challenge of being a full-time musician, anxiety (‘Bigger Than My Brain’), self-doubt (‘Daytime TV’), reckless living (‘Homegrown’), the fake nature of the music industry (‘Try’) and perhaps most searingly, the death of vocalist/guitarist/lyricist Brae’s father (‘I Keep Dreaming’), Don’t Let Go packed in poetic lyricism and plainspoken Australian storytelling, all peppered with an endearing dose of self-deprecation.

Offering a depth and dimension not too often found in their genre, Dear Seattle captured industry and audience hearts alike upon the album’s release in February 2019. Don’t Let Go garnered praise from the likes of Pilerats (“stellar”), The Music, (“hard not to fall in love with”), New Noise (“an immaculate effort”) and more, saw the band invited to play triple j’s lauded Like A Version segment, copped a nomination for Best Rock/Punk Album at the 2020 AIR Awards and spawned a huge headline Australian tour to celebrate. To date the record has also amassed close to 8 million streams.

Now with a few years and some more life behind them, plus a renewed focus to write completely for themselves, Dear Seattle have returned with ‘In My Head’ and ‘Way Out’ in 2021 and look to release more new music in the new year.

Best Before

On Monday January 31 and Tuesday February 1, the critically acclaimed Chicago rapper-producer Saba will present Few Good Things: The Short Film in support of his highly anticipated Few Good Things album due for release on February 4th. The premiere worldwide screening event will take place via the premium social live media platform Moment House and will be followed by a conversation with Saba and film director C.T. Robert moderated by veteran multi-media journalist Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins. WATCH THE TRAILER HERE + BUY TICKETS HERE

Saba’s moment will take place on Monday, January 31st and Tuesday, February 1st on Moment House and will be broadcast to various regions around the world including North and South America, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and the UK, Europe and Africa.

“The concept of ‘Few Good Things’ is the realisation of self after a search for exterior fulfilment,” shares Saba ahead of the premiere event. “It is the satisfaction and completeness you gain by simply living a life that is yours. Few is a small number, but few is not lonely. In the face of all adversity, a few good things is recognising and accepting blessings. Few is to count them, one by one – an empty glass is full of air, an empty bank is full of lessons., and an empty heart is full of memories. Few good things is to grow comfortable with the empty, and despite that, finding your fullness.”

Film director C.T. Robert adds, “As a storyteller, I’ve always been drawn to stories that attempt to identify what makes us who we are. The ones that ask questions like: ‘What does having everything you need really look like?’ ‘Is it sitting at a dinner table with your loved ones?’ ‘Is it waking up next to the woman you love?’ ‘Is it having cherished memories for all of those you care for, those still in the physical and those who passed on?’”

Robert continues, “It’s hard to pinpoint the exact answers to all these but we know that it’s nothing that can be achieved from monetary fulfilment or anything materialistic. It’s a weight that can only be carried with you through years of experiences and memories made from putting the time in with those around you. No amount of money could ever replace that. In this film we want to refocus the conversation surrounding these ideas and help shed light on what’s really important in the grand scheme of it all.”

LIVESTREAM DATES + TIMES
31 Jan – 6pm ET / North + South America (East)
31 Jan – 6pm PT / North + South America (West)
1 Feb – 6pm JST / Asia + Australia + New Zealand
1 Feb – 6pm GMT / Europe + UK + Africa

Saba’s Few Good Things album — the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2018 album CARE FOR ME – was recently highlighted in The New York Times’ winter preview stating, “The beats are still buttery, jazzy and meticulously arranged. But this time around, there is more wisdom — a recognition that living through trauma means finding gratitude and affirmation in the moments you can.”

ANDY GOLLEDGE ‘LOVE LIKE THIS’ OUT NOW
DEBUT ALBUM STRENGTH OF A QUEEN OUT FRIDAY 4 MARCH
TOURING NATIONALLY THIS MARCH/APRIL

It’s a brand-new year and I OH YOU are already delivering the goods, with the release of Andy Golledge’s new feel-good bop ‘Love Like This’, lifted off his highly anticipated debut album Strength Of A Queen (out Friday 4 March).

“’Love Like This’ is a simple love story about finding someone who makes all your usual hang ups – growing old, money woes, health anxiety – feel just that little bit lighter,” Andy explains. What started as what Andy calls “a much more subdued diddy”, ‘Love Like This’ is one of the first upbeat love songs Andy has penned. “When I brought it to rehearsal the band lit a real fire under it, so it ended up erupting into a much more forward moving tempo for our sound. Which is great, cause ultimately, it’s a message of love and positivity, something everyone needs right now, so I’m super excited to get it out there.”

Known for his famous live show that he and his band have been playing around Sydney’s haunts for 15 years, on Strength Of A Queen Golledge perfectly captures this unpredictability and energy across 11 tracks that he calls “the road trip of my life so far”.

‘Love Like This’ joins recent electrifying single ‘Rescue Me’, double release ‘New Stamp’ and ‘Baby Mumma’, and 2020’s ‘Ghost of Love’ on the forthcoming LP. Together these tracks have seen adds to Double J, ABC Country and Radio KIX, plus rock and alt-country tastemaker playlists across the US, UK and Australia (Apple’s Breaking Singer/Songwriter (US), Country Wide (US), Southern Craft (US), Untitled (UK) and Spotify’s Indie Arrivals, Broad Chords and Fresh Finds).

With ‘Love Like This’, another piece of Strength Of A Queen is unveiled as we draw closer to the long awaited release and the commencement of his debut national headline tour.

Krewella Announce Their New Emotionally Charged Studio Album “The Body Never Lies” and Album-Themed Tour

by the partae January 20, 2022
written by the partae

“The Body Never Lies” Tour Pre-Sale

Throughout their illustrious career, the name Krewella has become known for hard-hitting and yet emotionally charged music. True to form, the sisters’ new forthcoming album “The Body Never Lies” is a shining example of their signature sound. After releasing singles “Never Been Hurt” with BEAUZ and “No Control” with MADGRRL, Krewella announce the 10-track masterpiece, coming out on March 04. The title hints at the range of emotions within the album, with each track as unique and varied as our feelings themselves. After a long wait for this highly anticipated body of work, to say that Krewella has done it again with “The Body Never Lies” would be an understatement. The album coincides with their 2022 album-themed tour featuring their live show, with DJ sets in select cities. The tour kicks off on April 01, covering 2+ months and hitting cities including Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, Denver and more. See below for the album’s tracklist, the tour’s dates and pre-sale of the tour tickets.

“The clench of a fist, the pit in your stomach, the fluid in your veins; the body is a sensor, messenger, keeper of stories, a fortress of the soul, an instrument of knowing, a rocket ship to other worlds. Every cell, pore, and bone recalls the past, absorbs the present, and senses the future. ‘The Body Never Lies‘ is at times an angry, sometimes feverish, but always a euphoric conversation about feeling, remembering, and existing in our individual vessels that encase our soul and memories.” – Krewella

“The Body Never Lies” Tracklist:

01. Intro
02. Traces
03. No Control (with MADGRRL)
04. In the Water
05. War Forever
06. You don’t even have to try
07. Never Been Hurt (with BEAUZ)
08. Drive Away
09. 6 Feet
10. I’m just a monster underneath, my darling

Sisters Jahan and Yasmine exploded onto the scene in 2012 with their debut self-released EP “Play Hard,” which has now been streamed almost 150M times on Spotify alone; additionally, their single “Alive” from the EP has been certified Platinum. Since then, the duo has made a name for themselves and their hard-hitting yet melodic and vocal-driven sound through releases like “Live for the Night,” “Enjoy the Ride,” and more. In 2016, Krewella was awarded a coveted place on Forbes‘s “30 Under 30” list. They have performed at major global music festivals, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Music Festival, iHeartRadio Music Festival, and many others, in addition to their own headlining tours. As one of the main elements of the Krewella canon, the group’s onstage performances serve as the live extension of their music and art, incorporating a multitude of audiovisual elements together with Jahan and Yasmine‘s live vocals and powerful onstage energy.

The tour, which goes right through March, will see Chasing Ghosts (Jimmy Kyle) performing solo in intimate surroundings, playing songs from the bands critically acclaimed release Homelands, out now via Bad Apples Music.

“I’m really looking forward to creating great memories with the good folks in Amends, our special guests but most of all our supporters!  I have a new appreciation for just how lucky we are being able to tour at present. Connecting with good crowds and music lovers washes away all this cynicism we’ve all endured. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to share Homelands with so many people in a really personal way! I look forward to everyone coming out to a show to say g’day!” – Jimmy Kyle – Chasing Ghosts

Sydney’s Amends released their sophomore album Tales Of Love, Loss and Outlaws in 2021 through Resist Records. The new album serves as the bands most consistent release to date.

‘It’s been roughly 9 months since our album launch show, after which we have had numerous tours cancelled. We cannot be more thrilled to be able to pick up where we left off and taking our latest record on the road. To be able to do it with the incredibly talented Jimmy Kyle of Chasing Ghosts is such a treat. We greatly admire Jimmy’s song writing and storytelling, so when the opportunity presented itself, it made complete sense to jump at the idea of doing the tour together.’ – Marcus Tamp – Amends

Chasing Ghosts came out blazing and unapologetic last year dropping their ripper first track SUMMER from the EP HOMELANDS to kickstart the year. The EP received 4.5/5 stars from Rolling Stones Australia titling them, “the band Australia needs right now.”

The track finds Jimmy Kyle singing in both English and, for the first time ever, in his native tongue as he explores the horrors of the 1856 Towel Creek massacre. The singer-guitarist delivers the song through the eyes of a grieving Aboriginal Elder, telling the story of “Baaba” (Babaang) Jack Scott as a baby; the lone survivor of the Towel Creek tragedy.  Incredibly, Kyle learned of a close family link to that Elder through a schoolyard incident when he was young.

’Summer’ on track to be one of the most powerful entries in their discography to date.” – Rolling Stone

“When it comes to addressing Indigenous affairs in the music scene, no one does it quite like Chasing Ghosts frontman Jimmy Kyle.” – Wall Of Sound

“Australia’s best new music for February…weaving English with his native tongue, and delivering a powerful punk song with sugary hooks and a thrilling momentum that belie the horrors of such a massacre” – The Guardian

“Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.” Frank Zappa

Dear Adelaide,

While SA and most of Australia is currently in the midst of some very trying times, we are optimistic for calmer seas on the other side of this current wave.

We believe that Frank Zappa (RIP) was 100% on the money and it is in this spirit that we are forging ahead and announcing the lineup for Spin Off 2022.

Australia is fortunate to have incredible talent both on stage and behind it. Our live music industry simply must keep moving forward and planning for the future to survive. So here goes….

Your fave Adelaide music festival is once again set to bring a selection of Splendour 2022’s most popular players and a dream team of Australia’s finest to Adelaide Showgrounds on Friday 22 July! Get ready to party along with…

GLASS ANIMALS · JACK HARLOW · SPACEY JANE · BALL PARK MUSIC ·

Reaching number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after a record breaking 51 weeks the track is currently sitting at over a billion Spotify streams and has also earned Glass Animals a Grammy nomination. Fans will finally get to sing along live at Spin Off!

Freo four-piece Spacey Jane gave us the #2 track on last year’s triple j Hottest 100, the mellow soundtrack to summer ‘Booster Seat’. These certified local legends also recently picked up a Song Of The Year ARIA award and are set to tour NZ, the UK and Europe before they hit the stage at Spin Off.

In 2021, Jack Harlow found himself on top of the world with a sold-out national tour and one of the biggest songs globally ‘Industry Baby’ with Lil Nas X. The track reached #1 on Spotify in the US and #2 globally as well as #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. But if you ask the artist how he feels, his only response is “I’m not done yet.” No he’s not. He has Spin Off on his “to do” list!

From comedy to action sports, mock reality TV drama to WWF wrestling in his live shows, the world of Oliver Tree is unlike any artist who has come before him. Versatile in every sense of the word, Tree not only explores every type of entertainment but also every type of genre in his music, most recently recruiting rappers Trippie Redd and Ski Mask The Slump Got for a rework of his viral smash hit ‘Life Goes On’ with accompanying video featuring Diplo.

With 1.8 billion streams and nearly 500 million YouTube views up her sleeve, Canadian pop songstress Tate McRae is ready to play her first ever Australian show at Spin Off! The youngest musician on Forbes 30 Under 30 List for 2021, Tate mixes her outstanding vocal ability with her unparalleled dance moves to create a performance that has wowed audiences at MTV’s European Music Awards, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the VMA Pre-Show – now it’s the city of churches turn to witness her star power.

2021 was a huge year for Genesis Owusu, his debut body of work, Smiling With No Teeth arrived as an artistic triumph and has resonated with audiences globally, surpassing genre and disrupting boundaries along the way. Smiling With No Teeth received four ARIA Awards including the coveted Album of the Year, triple j’s J Award for Album of the Year and Music Video of the Year J Award alongside his close collaborator, Riley Blakeway for ‘The Other Black Dog’.

Luciano, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Todd Edwards and more to feature

The dust has barely settled on an epic New Year’s Eve party but Studio 338 is already back with an irresistible run of parties in the first part of 2022. The Release opening kicks things off on January 29th with Luciano then the likes of MOSCH, a big Music On Birthday,Space Opening Fiesta and Sankeys Opening host DJs such as debutant Todd Edwards plus Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Matt Jam Lamont, Wookie, CC83 and many more to be announced. Limited tickets are on sale now.

After a decade at the forefront, Studio 338 is internationally recognised as one of Europe’s leading super clubs. This run of parties backs that up and will see the whole venue open, including the vast main room with its exposed brick walls, raised podiums and wrap-around balconies all making the dance floor into an atmospheric cauldron. World class sound throughout from VOID Acoustics and real devotion to production, lights and lasers always elevate every party to the next level.

This summer, Release will head to Ibiza for some uncovered dances, but first the in-house night opens the year at Studio 338 onJanuary 29th. The party will mark a hugely anticipated debut for Swiss-Chilean minimal master and Cadenza label head Luciano, who is one of the most dexterous DJs in the game and always someone who serves up surprises. He will also be joined by Reboot for the event. US house and garage god Todd Edwards then makes his debut at Studio 338 for MOSCH Presents alongside a pioneer of the UKG scene in Matt Jam Lamont. Wookie and CC83 also join in to ensure that all bass heavy styles are covered.

On Saturday February 5th, Marco Carola returns to the scene of his legendary last set on New Year’s eve for his Music On label’s birthday party. Expect plenty of big, rolling techno from the Neapolitan titan as well as more guests to be announced.

The Space Opening Fiesta is always a memorable night in the calendar. This year it happens on Saturday 12th February and again all the stops will be pulled out to make sure it goes down with plenty of the seminal club’s Ibiza colour, spirit and hedonism. So far house legend (and one half of Deepdish) Sharam will lead the dance with Sir Norman Jay… with more to be announced next week

A week after on Saturday 19th February, Desolat label boss Loco Dice is back at the club for Seran Bendecidos and another of his chunky crossover sets where house and techno meet in perfect harmony, welcoming high-energy Manchester trio Mason Collective to play alongside him. Studio 338 regulars Sankeys will also return for an Opening Rave that is sure to blow the roof off. Kicking off proceedings is VIVa Music boss Steve Lawler, while playing each week will be fast rising residents and deep digging DJs Andrew Kay, who has recently released a 12″ with close friend of the club Darius Syrossian, and Hypoxia, who have a release scheduled on Marco Resssman’s Upon You Records in February.

Switzerland’s iconic mountain festival makes its return to the snow for its 19th edition. After holding the event in summer the past two years due to the pandemic, the festival can finally return to its original winter date so that revelers can once again enjoy skiing the pristine slopes of Crans Montana, as well as getting stuck into the festival’s offerings.

Winner of ‘Best International Festival’ at the DJ Awards, Caprices Festival boasts incomparable panoramic views paired with state of the art audio-visual technology, snow sports, luxury gastronomy, multiple spa and wellness centers and a wealth of globally acclaimed artists across three stages over two consecutive weekends.

Artists announced for this year’s edition include Sven Väth who will be performing a special show as part of his Catharsis album launch tour (his first solo album in 20 years!) in addition to Dixon, Tale of Us and Âme who will make their debut and offer a new dimension to the infamous Modernity Stage, Luciano b2b Ricardo Villalobos, RPR Soundsystem, Jamie Jones, Cassy, Recondite, Mathew Jonson, Dana Ruh, Guti, Archie Hamilton, Pan Pot, Digby, Janeret b2b Varhat, Alci to name just a few.

As one of the first festivals to do so, Caprices has teamed up with award-winning cryptocurrency app SwissBorg to host an innovative and forward thinking summit to kick things off before the main event which will integrate the art and blockchain world through themes like NFT and the Metaverse. Artists, investors, technologists, crypto companies and the public will be able to immerse themselves in this intriguing new world through a series of events including NFT awards, NFT auctions, conferences, VR experiences and much more. More details on the summit will be rolled out over the coming months.

‘NFT and Metaverse technologies offer revolutionary prospects for the music industry and the arts in general. With Caprices we have always sought to be at the heart of novelty, and being among the first to offer an artistic event combining real and virtual life excites us a lot’ – Maxime Léonard (founder and artistic director)

Caprices is globally renowned for its unique glass Modernity Stage, set at the top of the Swiss Alps in the picturesque ski resort of Crans-Montana. From the moment of stepping into the bubble lift to head up the mountain, guests become engulfed with excitement. The stand alone greenhouse-like structure sits 2,200m above sea level offering panoramic views of the crystalline skies and snow-capped mountain vista whilst partying amidst the crisp mountain air of the Swiss Alps.

The two night stages (the Forest Stage and Signal Stage) will be hosted by international partners Movement Torino, Yoyaku Records, Techno V, Return by Solid AM and B4 Zanzibar. The Forest Stage offers guests a more intimate party space, situated at the base of the bubble lift which takes you to the top of the mountain, whilst the Signal Stage offers a much larger, vast warehouse style space ideal for those heavier night time sounds.

For its anticipated winter return Caprices Festival once again proves to push the boundaries of what a destination festival can offer, with arguably its biggest year to date.

GOOD FEST — A WESTSIDE BLOCK PARTY. JAN 22

by the partae January 13, 2022
written by the partae

A celebration of good music, good food, good booze and good times, over one atmospheric afternoon and evening, Mr West will transform Footscray’s Nicholson Street Mall into an immersive multi-sensory melting pot of culture, connection and community.

MELBOURNE, Australia. January 7th, 2021. On January 22nd 2022, Mr West Bar & Bottle Shop will host its inaugural open-air extravaganza, Good Fest — A Westside Block Party.

A celebration of good music, good food, good booze and good times, over one atmospheric afternoon and evening, Mr West will transform Footscray’s Nicholson Street Mall into an immersive multi-sensory melting pot of culture, connection and community.

EVENT DETAILS

Date: January 22nd, 2022.

Time: 4pm-9pm

Address: Mr West, 106 Nicholson St, Footscray VIC 3011

Price: Free

THE MUSIC

AUSECUMA BEATS

Live from the open-air stage, the afro-beat meets dance-music mastery of AUSECUMA BEATS will take block party revellers on a global journey of music discovery as they move, shake and shimmy to the hypnotic sounds of the nine-strong ensemble.

Led by their fearless bandleader and master djembe player, Boubacar Gaye, AUSECUMA BEATS demonstrates what can happen when a group of artists come together based on an idea – in this case, the concept of place, of transplanting cultural heritage into a contemporary city.

ELAURA

Fresh off the back of her new single SHADOWTALK, Chilean/Australian songstress ELAURA will grace the stage with her jazz, soul, and R’n’B inspired music about love, self-awareness and finding one’s place in the world.

Singing stories about individual and collective evolution, ELAURA‘s captivating sound, honeyed voice and empowering lyrics remind listeners of their innate human power, authenticity and grace.

AMIN PAYNE

Producer/DJ/Performer based in Melbourne. Co-Founder and member of the bands ‘Due Dillagence’ & ‘OJ KUSH’.

A vital member of the Operatives, Amin is also the co-founder of Condensed Milk, a collective & label that is renowned for drawing a crowd for its parties, talent showcases and DJ sets across Melbourne and releasing several acclaimed compilations of local and international artists.

Amin’s latest project is his TEYMORI alias which explores a distinctive take on house music. His debut EP merges sounds of Funk, Afro, soul, percussive rhythms & takes you on an organic journey with sophisticated grooves.

DJ PETRA

PETRA is a selector who will match the energy of her sets to the vibe of a crowd. Her selection sequences have depth with an old school analogue touch, so you can expect funky jams and energetic beats, high hats and deep melodies combining old and new tunes that will have everyone moving their feet.

Having been on the bill for the soft launch of highly anticipated ATET, with upcoming gigs for Novel and more, PETRA is hustling hard to emerge onto the Melbourne music scene in a big way.

THE FOOD & BOOZE

PIE THIEF

Pie thief is an overnight cult hero of the Footscray food scene. The idea was born from Aaron Donato (Bar Josephine) and Chef Scot Blomfield (ex Supernormal) sharing pints and discussing their love and nostalgia for a crispy, delicious, buttery, pie. Today, you will still see lines down Barkly St at lunchtime of people patiently waiting to get their hands on these incredible parcels of joy.

DINGO ATE MY TACO

Criminal Defence Attorney turned taco expert Paul Walcutt moved to Melbourne from Texas in 2019.

His food truck/pop-up focuses on elevated Tex Mex fusing Texas BBQ techniques with fresh and delicious Mexican flavours and the result is some of the most mouthwatering tacos in Melbourne.

MR WEST X HOMEGROWN POP UP BAR

Mr West has teamed up with the team from Homegrown to set up an outdoor cantina bar on the day. The offering will feature bottled cocktails designed by the Melbourne cocktail legends from Fancy Free using Australian spirits and native ingredients as well as a tidy selection of craft beers and natural wines from Mr West.

ABOUT MR WEST BAR & BOTTLE SHOP

Mr West Bar & Bottle Shop is a multifaceted drinking space and one-stop booze shop in the heart of Melbourne’s West. The idea was conceptualised in early 2016 when mates Caleb Baker and Josh Hodges realised they both dreamt of opening a venue and shared a passion for all types of liquor. With a wealth of knowledge, knowhow and industry experience between them, they knew they were onto something; and before they could drink Josh’s stash of mezcal, Mr West was born.

For co-owners Caleb and Josh, Mr West was an opportunity to collaborate and showcase their depth of knowledge and passion for booze in all its forms, and corners of the globe. Priding itself on being the house of hops and fine drops Mr West has 30 taps to choose from along with an extensive list of

independent craft beer, natural wine, speciality spirits and a carefully crafted seasonal cocktail list. The Mr West team works closely with industry legends both locally and Internationally to hold regular events, masterclasses, tastings and exclusive product releases.
