Peach Pit Announce 2025 Australia & New Zealand Tour

by the partae September 24, 2024
written by the partae

With a new album on the horizon, winsome Vancouver indie outfit Peach Pit today announce their live return to Australia and New Zealand next February/March 2025 – The Magpie Tour. Presented by Frontier Touring, the Canadian four-piece will play five exclusive headline shows in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland.

With both their new album title – Magpie, due out October 25 via Colombia Records – and its lead single (listen here) inspired by our favourite birds, Peach Pit are ready to return to our shores once again. Across 11 tracks on the band’s latest and fourth studio album, members Neil Smith (vocals), Chris Vanderkooy (guitar), Peter Wilton (bass) and Mikey Pascuzzi (drums) showcase a masterclass in expansive arrangement and deeply felt songwriting – a winning formula that only continues the incredible trajectory Peach Pit have been on since their star-making debut EP Sweet FA in 2016.

Magpie, the follow-up to 2022’s From 2 to 3 (which features fan favourites ‘Give Up Baby Go’ and ‘Up Granville’), didn’t come easily. Initially inspired by The Beatles’ Let It Be recording sessions, as seen in Peter Jackson’s Get Back documentary, Peach Pit hoped to adopt a similar spontaneous approach. “We wanted to go into the studio with a bunch of songs that we’d flesh out and write on the fly,” Smith explains. “We’d done that a bunch of times before for singles here and there, so we were like, ‘Let’s try making a record that way’.” But after a few studio sessions in their native Vancouver that ultimately proved fruitless, the band felt creatively stuck. “At a certain point, we were like, “Damn, this isn’t really working for us,” Smith recalls. The band took a break in the process to head to Melbourne for their debut tour of Australia, where they found inspiration.

“I was struck by how magpies are seen as both good and bad omens,” says Smith of Australia’s beloved avian. This duality resonated with the singer, especially in relation to his decision to quit drinking as well as the ups and downs the band experienced while creating Magpie. “The album reflects those highs and lows, from heartbreak to new love.”

Don’t miss the captivating Peach Pit live on stage in February 2025. Tickets go on sale Monday 30 September 30 at 11am (local time) via frontiertouring.com/peachpit, with presales for Frontier Members starting Thursday 26 September at 11am (local time) – see website for full info.

WHEN KEV MET BOB RIDES AGAIN – Nov/Dec Aus Tour

by the partae September 24, 2024
written by the partae

WHEN KEV MET BOB RIDES AGAIN: AUSTRALIA’S BELOVED MUSICAL ICONS KEVIN MITCHELL & BOB EVANS REUNITE FOR NATIONAL TOUR IN NOV/DEC

Off the back of the monumental success of the inaugural When Kev Met Bob tour last year, Australia’s beloved musical icons Kevin Mitchell and Bob Evans are reuniting for another momentous national tour in November and December, returning to capital cities and playing at a haul of new regional markets. Igniting audiences with its innovative blend of rock and melodic folk, and playing to sold-out venues across the country in 2023, Kev is thrilled to announce the return of the tour, aptly titled When Kev Met Bob Rides Again, with tickets onsale now from www.bobevans.com.au.

Two great singer-songwriters, Kevin Mitchell—frontman of the iconic post-grunge ‘90s rock band Jebediah, and treasured folk artist Bob Evans—both men driven by an unrelenting curiosity and desire to push boundaries. The fact they’re one and the same individual hardly matters, to Kev and Bob it’s all about the music.

When Kev Met Bob Rides Again will launch across the country, kicking off in Brunswick Heads on November 14, before making stops at Gold Coast, Brisbane, Belgrave (Victoria), Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Caringbah, Bulli and Sydney, finally, returning to Kev’s adopted hometown of Melbourne for a grand finale at the Northcote Social Club on December 14.

Fans can expect a captivating performance that spans over 30 years of music, blending the high-energy rock anthems of Kev’s seminal masterwork, Jebediah, with the reflective, acoustic melodies of his ARIA award-winning alter ego Bob Evans, featuring a carefully curated selection of fan favourites, alongside new additions from Mitchell’s extensive 12 album catalogue.

The tour will blur the lines between Kev and Bob’s unique styles, swapping out electric and acoustic instruments as needed. For diehard fans of both acts, the upcoming shows will be a celebration of what makes these two artists so special and revered by music fans across the country. “Last year I took the plunge with something that had been at the back of my mind for many years, playing a show that combined my Jebediah and Bob Evans songs together for the first time ever,” explains Kev. “For nearly 30 years I had kept them completely separate but now felt ready to step into a new era.  The result was much more than I had expected, sold out shows and a peculiar feeling of completeness that was new.  Simply put, it was the most satisfying run of shows I had done in years, and I knew straight away that I had to do it again.  So why not now, at the end of 2024?  In a year where Jebediah released their first new album in over a decade and with so many other Jebs and Bob songs to choose from, this new round of When Kev Met Bob shows will revisit the best moments from the last tour and add a whole batch of different songs into the mix, stretching all the way back to 1996 and right up to the present”.

When Kev Met Bob Rides Again is not just a return of a successful tour; it is a testament to Mitchell’s enduring love for music and his dedication to his craft. Kev’s alter-ego Bob was born even as Mitchell was at the height of his success with radio and festival mainstay Jebediah. While the band was recording their second album Of Someday Shambles in 1999, Kev began penning songs under his Bob Evans moniker. Since then, Bob has won multiple ARIA awards across his six-album career, with his most recent Tomorrowland released in 2021, and Jebediah just this year released OIKS, the band’s first new album in 13 years, with OIKS catapulting their iconic past and present into a dazzling new era. Over nearly three decades, Kev has continued to push the boundaries of his artistry, from the fuzz pedal guitar-driven energy of Jebediah’s alt-rock to the semi-acoustic stylings of Bob Evans.

When Kev Met Bob Rides Again promises to be an unmissable event, offering a unique opportunity to see two of Australia’s most beloved musical personas in the flesh, as one artist delivers a performance at the height of his creative achievement.

Decades of musical excellence and innovation once again culminate in a concert for the ages. When Kev Met Bob Rides Again promises to be an extraordinary tribute to one of this country’s best loved troubadours.

Tickets to When Kev Met Bob Rides Again are on sale now from www.bobevans.com.au.

GRINSPOON KICK OFF 43 DATE AUS TOUR

by the partae September 17, 2024
written by the partae

GRINSPOON KICK OFF ‘whatever, whenever, wherever’ 43 DATE AUS TOUR

Australian rock icons Grinspoon are psyched to hit the road for their anticipated whatever, whenever, wherever tour, set to kick off tonight with a sold out show at Ballina RSL, before rolling on to sold out shows at Vinnie’s Dive Bar (Gold Coast) tomorrow and The Tivoli (Brisbane) on Friday, before moving to Toowoomba on Saturday and back to the Gold Coast on Sunday.  The extensive tour, a run of 43 shows nationally, has fans from all pockets of the country eagerly anticipating the chance to see Grinspoon perform live at some of Australia’s best loved venues.

Following the release of the band’s new album, whatever, whatever, Grinspoon landed an impressive #3 ARIA Album chat debut for their 8th studio album release, their first new release in 12 years. The record’s success underscores the band’s enduring appeal and their ability to deliver music that resonates deeply with their audience.

Grinspoon’s tour promises an electrifying experience, celebrating their new music while paying homage to the hits that have defined their career. Each show will feature a dynamic setlist that includes tracks from whatever, whatever alongside fan favorites from their extensive back catalogue.

“One cannot help but be bursting at the proverbial seams with the imminent arrival of the ‘whatever, whenever, wherever’ tour.  We cannot wait to play these songs to people because they’re new; we also cannot wait to see the people because we haven’t seen them for so long. Mackay I’m looking at you, Cairns, what’s it been? Seven years?
It fills us with great excitement, joy, and danceathons, anticipating our touchdown in the regional areas and in the capital cities, especially on Tuesday nights. Why Tuesday nights? Because Tuesday night is a night that people could be partying but they don’t. It’s kind of the rejected night, Tuesdays. Where restaurants and movie theatres run special offers to fill empty seats. We want to bring Tuesdays back to the masses. We wanna make Tuesdays part of the vernacular again. What are you doing Tuesday? This should be the new, ‘what are you doing Friday?’ This is our mission. What are you doing Tuesday? We’re seeing Grinspoon. That’s what we’re doing. What are you doing Wednesday? We’re gonna go see Grinspoon again, because they were so good on Tuesday. So forget Friday, forget Saturdays. Let’s do Tuesdays. See you soon? – Phil Jamieson.

Tickets for the remaining shows are selling fast, and fans are encouraged to secure their spots soon to avoid disappointment. For more information on tour dates and ticket availability, please visit Grinspoon’s official website.

With 13 ARIA Award nominations, over half a million records sold, and an untouchable live reputation, their impact on contemporary Australian rock is undeniable. Grinspoon’s influence continues to shape the Australian rock scene, and whatever, whatever is a testament to their lasting legacy and creative rejuvenation.

Set to tear up stages around Australia with Press Club as main support for all shows, tickets to the band’s extensive 43 date ‘whatever, whenever, wherever’ tour are moving fast.

Ballina, Southport, Brisbane x 2, Gladstone, Mackay, Townsville,  Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Pooraka, Adelaide, Barwon Heads and Perth shows are already sold out.

Challenging the Narrative: UNI/VS on Truth and Trust

by the partae September 16, 2024
written by the partae

Your new track ‘A Chosen Death’ packs a punch! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the song and the themes you wanted to explore?

A Chosen Death was brought to fruition through a deep look into our post pandemic world and the increasingly unhinged and polarised views being fed to the public through traditional media. It poses the question ‘Can we really trust the narrative of our elected leaders or that of whomever is pulling their strings?’. We hope to invite critical thought and observation as well as hope that if we all speak our truth things may get better.

The track dives into post-pandemic life and polarised views in the media. How did the chaos of recent years influence your songwriting process?

From Scott: It’s really opened my eyes to how fragile society is. It’s been hard to put what I’ve wanted to into words without wrongfully condemning myself and by proxy the rest of the band. I’ve never wanted to get political or impose my personal views on anyone. So it’s important for me to write lyrics that everyone can find their own meaning in.

You’ve posed some big questions in the lyrics, like whether we can trust our leaders. What do you hope listeners will take away from the track?

From Scott: I hope to inspire a healthy criticism of our authority and social trends but ultimately the courage to speak ones truth.

What was it like working with Garath Hargreaves on production? Did he help bring a fresh perspective to your sound?

It is always a pleasure working with Gary. He has produced our whole discography and we don’t know if we’ll ever work with anyone else. He has a very good ear for Metalcore production and continuously helps us get the sound we are looking for. Gary also puts a lot into our live sound. He will also be our sound engineer for our tour in Oct/Nov.

You’re kicking off the ‘A Chosen Death’ tour in October. What can fans expect from these live shows? Any surprises in store?

We hope to just go out there and give it our best every single night. We have put a lot of work into constructing a set list that will accommodate our earliest fans to our newest. We hope to bring dynamics into our set that will form a journey to the people in the crowd.

You’ve toured with some heavy hitters like Volumes and Gravemind. How does it feel to get back on the road with new music after the pandemic?

It is very refreshing getting back on the road after the pandemic. During the pandemic we had to cancel our first headline tour around Australia along with our first international show. We were unsure if we would be able to pick up the pieces when the dust cleared. Thankfully we were able to get a couple of opportunities to tour again in 2023 & are stoked that we are able to head out on a headline tour this year.

You’ve got a knack for blending bone-crushing breakdowns with melodic hooks. How do you strike that balance when writing songs like ‘A Chosen Death’?

We all listen to a pretty wide variety of music which lends itself inherently to a bit of a mix when it comes to writing. We almost always write the instrumentals first and fit the vocal placement and lyrical content to the mood of the finished song. Generally when we’re writing we naturally lean towards finding contrast, usually having clean/melodic sections directly before or after heavy sections, blending heavy vocals into the choruses or having both vocalists sing/scream different lyrics at the same time and using a variety of synth/electronics to build the mood of the track. Often we’ll carry the same electronics over from the melodic sections to the heavy sections to help tie them together musically.

The song’s title has a bit of a grim edge. What does ‘A Chosen Death’ mean to you, and how does it tie into the broader message of the track?

A Chosen Death refers directly to the state in which the world has found itself in. Polarising views pushed by government and media have driven humans further and further apart, effectively causing the death of a cohesively functioning society. The catch is that we elected these representatives and we feed back into the media narrative, thereby becoming a death we chose ourselves.

Your upcoming shows are spread across some iconic Aussie venues. Do you have a favourite city to play in, or a memory from past gigs that stands out?

Obviously, our home town of Brisbane is where a lot of the bigger/ most memorable shows we have played, But if we were to pick a town away from home it would have to be Melbourne. Melbourne crowds always seem to welcome us with open arms and we always get a really positive response after every show there.

After the tour, what’s next for UNI/VS? Are there more singles or perhaps a full album in the works?

We have sported the idea of doing a full length album but with the current size of the band and how people consume music in this day and age, we are unsure if putting the energy into a full length is the right thing to do. New music is definitely in the works, how we release it e.g. a full length, EP or singles is still unknown. We are also working on hitting some locations around Australia we haven’t played before, mostly regional towns but are pushing hard to get over to Perth as well.

Brisbane metalcore outfit UNI/VS has returned with their latest single, A Chosen Death, alongside the announcement of their A Chosen Death Australian Tour, which will run across the East Coast in October and November. Tickets are on sale now!

Their first release of the year, A Chosen Death is a fierce return from the four-piece, blending chugging guitar riffs, intense vocals, and emotional cleans. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Garath Hargreaves (Wildheart, Young Lions), the song explores life post-pandemic and questions the increasingly polarized and unhinged narratives often portrayed in traditional media.

“We wanted to pose the question, ‘Can we really trust the narrative of our elected leaders or that of whomever is pulling their strings?’” the band explains. “We hope to encourage critical thinking and observation, as well as inspire hope that if we all speak our truth, things might improve.”

The band will bring their explosive live performances to five shows across Australia in October and November. Presented by Stronghold Booking and joined by special guests st.sinner, the tour will kick off at The Valley Loft in Brisbane on October 4, followed by The Burdekin Hotel in Sydney on October 12, La La La’s in Wollongong on October 13, Laundry Bar in Melbourne on November 2, and concluding at Crown & Anchor in Adelaide on November 3.

UNI/VS, consisting of Scott Willis (vocals), Michael Ryan (guitar/vocals), Nik Sudweeks (drums), and Shaw Schmidt (bass), formed in Brisbane in 2017 and quickly gained recognition in Australia’s heavy music scene. Known for their melodic hooks, crushing breakdowns, and introspective lyrics, the band has earned a loyal following and toured extensively across the country, sharing stages with acts such as Volumes (US), Gravemind, Patient Sixty-Seven, and Crooked Royals (NZ).

With hundreds of thousands of digital streams to their name, UNI/VS is poised to continue their momentum with their new music and upcoming tour.

Mysteryland’s groundbreaking finale: A tribute to life and nature

by the partae September 10, 2024
written by the partae

Visitors are blown away by a 10-minute choreography with fully integrated 600 drones, fireworks, 3D video, lights, music, and vocals

After a three-day sun-drenched weekend, Mysteryland once again solidified its position as a pioneer in the festival world with a breathtaking and unprecedented finale that left attendees in awe. For the first time ever, a 10-minute choreography seamlessly combined 600 drones, fireworks, 3D video, lights, music, and vocals into a spectacular end show unlike anything seen before. This cutting-edge performance, developed in collaboration with TWOFIFTYK DRNS (known for their shows at Burning Man) and world’s biggest beer brand BUD, pushed the boundaries of festival experiences. The drones were fully integrated into the finale, transforming the stage from a 30-meter centerpiece into a towering 120-meter-high spectacle of light and technology.

Rosanne Janmaat, CEO ID&T: “I am completely overwhelmed by this next level show and beyond proud of our team. Special shout out to our creative team who created pure magic with this end show. We look back on a fantastic edition in which we took a wonderful step in a new direction with Mysteryland. ‘Celebrating life’ is central to everything we do, and it was very special to close this sunny edition with an end show of this size, in which that theme formed the common thread. We are grateful for our crew, partners, artists and of course our amazing visitors. We can’t wait to show them what we have in store for next year!”

Sander ter Braak, TWOFIFTYK DRNS: “What we created here with Mysteryland goes far beyond just a drone show. The 600 drones are part of a fully integrated 10-minute choreography of light, lasers, drones, video, music, vocals, and fireworks. This show is an experience where all these disciplines are integrated to create a new, immersive reality where the line between what is real and virtual is no longer visible.”

A key highlight of the show was a performance by fan favorite Genevieve Coté, known from Britain’s Got Talent, who enchanted the crowd with her famous nature and animal sounds. The entire finale revolved around the theme “Celebrate Life,” where “life” carried a dual meaning, with a special focus on nature. This profound message is especially poignant in times when the pressure on our environment is increasing.

Mysteryland has long been committed to sustainability, and this year was no different. The festival ran almost entirely on green, locally sourced energy, continuing its tradition of leading the way in environmentally conscious event production.

The festival offers a stage to no less than 300 artists from different countries representing all genres in the electronic music spectrum, there were many performers that surprised visitors and the entire site was full with decorative objects and light installations that amazed them.

As Mysteryland 2024 concludes on a high note, this unforgettable end show serves as a powerful reminder of the festival’s dedication to innovation, nature, and celebration. The dates for the 2025 edition are already set: 22 – 24 September 2025 and visitors can preregister via this link. The full end show will be available on Mysteryland’s YouTube channel very soon.
