Hello Sunshine 2025: Stone Temple Pilots, Smash Mouth, More

by the partae September 3, 2024
written by the partae

Say hello to 2025 and get set to soak up some summer vibes; Melbourne’s biggest family-friendly music and food event Hello Sunshine will return next March for an unforgettable celebration of music, tasty treats and endless entertainment. An all-ages event that caters to diehard music fans, parents, kids, foodies and everyone in between, Hello Sunshine’s 2025 edition features a bumper lineup for the ages, including performances from Stone Temple Pilots, Smash Mouth, Wolfmother, Kasey Chambers, Rogue Traders, Drapht, an extra special Bluey live show and meet & greet, Lenny Pearce and Whistle & Trick.

Off the back of two successful years in Melbourne that saw over 10,000 punters each year soaking up live music, amusement park rides, markets and food stalls, next year’s Hello Sunshine edition will not only return to Victoria for a third time; it will also launch into Australia’s very own Sunshine State, with Hello Sunshine 2025 set to kick off at Caribbean Gardens in Melbourne on Saturday March 1, before heading up to the Gold Coast’s Broadwater Parklands on Saturday March 8.

Tickets for Hello Sunshine go onsale to the general public on Friday September 6 at 9am AEST from www.hellosunshinefest.com.au. Fans can register for presale tickets now from www.hellosunshinefest.com.au, with a 24 hour presale kicking off on Thursday September 5 at 9am AEST.

Rock royalty will descend on Melbourne and the Gold Coast in 2025, with legendary California rockers Stone Temple Pilots set to headline both Hello Sunshine events in March. Forming in the late 80s, STP catapulted to fame in 1992 following the release of their debut album Core, going on to be certified 8 x Platinum, snagging the quartet a Grammy Award for the monster hit Plush, and garnering the band the enviable status of being one of the most successful bands of the 90s. Now with eight studio albums in their wake, millions of sales and streams, countless global tours and a legacy for evolution, Stone Temple Pilots return to perform for Australian audiences for the first time in over two decades in 2025 as part of Hello Sunshine.

American rockers Smash Mouth are no strangers to adding sunny retro ska-soaked pop into their alt-rock earworms. First turning heads in 1997 via their infectious debut single Walkin’ on the Sun, Smash Mouth went on to smash headfirst into mainstream success with their 1999 sophomore album Astro Lounge, spawning one of their most iconic tracks All Star that has helped shaped multiple pop culture moments, from films through to TV sync and sporting events. Hailing from San Hose in California, Smash Mouth most recently released their eighth studio album, the Christmas-themed Missile Toes in 2023, and have toured extensively for the past few decades alongside everyone from Macklemore through to Spin Doctors, UB40 and Belinda Carlisle. “Australia has got to be one of the coolest places to play,” says Smash Mouth ahead of returning down under for Hello Sunshine in 2025. “The people there know how to party! We are so excited to head back to Australia to perform at the Hello Sunshine Festival in March. It’s going to be amazing. Summertime! Outdoor Festival! Australia! Yes Please!”

Iconic Australian hard rockers Wolfmother are no strangers to a festival setting, having performed at the likes of Big Day Out, Reading and Leeds and Lollapalooza over the years, and most recently completing a huge festival run in Europe and the UK. In 2025, they will once again grace Aussie festival stages as part of Hello Sunshine, bringing their brand of timeless rock’n’roll that has endured since the band’s inception in 2004. Helmed by Andrew Stockdale, Wolfmother has previously taken home a Grammy Award, as well as three ARIA Awards alongside additional nominations, toured relentlessly and consistently balanced modern and classic rock while proudly flying the flag for Australian music.

One of the country’s most beloved country music artists, Kasey Chambers never fails to enamour with her heartfelt lyricism and world-class artistry. In command of 14 ARIA Awards, Chambers was also inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2018, making her the youngest female to ever receive the honour. Alongside an astonishing career that has also seen her reach #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart five times and find her performing both her own acclaimed headline shows as well as performances with Cold Chisel, Bernard Fanning and James Taylor along the way, Chambers also recently released a brand new single Backbone (The Desert Child), and is also set to release a new album Backbone on October 4 along with her brand new book Just Don’t Be A D**khead.

Blending pop and rock influenced electronic dance wizardry, Australia’s Rogue Traders changed the game in the early 2000s, generating several top 20 ARIA Singles Charts hits, with their dynamic breakout 2009 album Here Come the Drums gifting the smash single Voodoo Child that also generated international chart success and spawned a national headline tour. Releasing their first new music in over a decade in 2023 via the track To the Disco, Rogue Traders will dazzle Hello Sunshine crowds in 2025 with their infamously high octane live show. “The Hello Sunshine Festival this March is looking AMAZING – and we are so excited to have been asked to join the lineup!  Can’t wait to see everyone down the front!”

Renowned Perth hip hop artist Drapht has remained at the forefront of his genre since his early years spent as part of the Syllabolix crew as a teenager as well as the ultimate release of his 2003 debut album Pale Rider. A charismatic creative force, armed with two ARIA Awards and a legion of fans, Drapht has also gone on to collaborate with fellow Aussie icons Hilltop Hoods, Bliss N Eso and Kate Miller-Heidke, with his energetic live show continuously proving to be the stuff of legends. “I’m stoked to be on the Hello Sunshine line up in March! It will the first time doing all-ages shows in Melbourne and on The Goldy with my band, so we’re psyched to share the music with those who may not have heard the songs live yet! Cant wait!”

You don’t have to be a kid to love Bluey, aka the global Australian cartoon phenomenon that has captured hearts of all ages. Following the adventures of the loveable titular Blue Heeler puppy, the Emmy, Logie and AACTA Award-winning Bluey has gone on to resonate with parents and children alike, with 2025’s Hello Sunshine offering punters a chance to meet and interact with their favourite Bluey characters, and you can also take in an extra special live show that will get you up and dancing, playing games and so much more! This is not to be missed for young audiences – and the young at heart!

A multi-platinum and ARIA-nominated artist, Lenny Pearce has performed globally with high profile artists including Janet Jackson, One Direction and Pitbull, shifting from his roots as part of the performing group Justice Crew into a whole new era, armed with hip hop, house and grooving basslines. The twin brother of famed Purple Wiggle John Pearce, Lenny Pearce will be bringing all of the amazing vibes to Hello Sunshine next year. “I’m so keen to play at Hello Sunshine for all the families who party together,” shares Pearce. “2025 will be bigger and better than ever and I’m pumped for it. I’m a family man myself and this event is such a vibe it’s gonna be one not to miss! Bangers for all!”

Comprising childhood friends Esther Holt and Maddy Kelly, Whistle & Trick are one of Melbourne’s preeminent kids bands with the sole mission to sing, dance and cause a bit of mischief along the way. With clever and thoughtful music designed to spark imaginations, the duo’s 2023 debut album Bananas and Other Delicious Things also featured the likes of Memphis LK, Allday, Vika & Linda and Paul Kelly. “We are super excited to be playing at the Hello Sunshine festival coming up in Melbourne and the Gold Coast in March,” shares Whistle & Trick. “We are thrilled to be performing alongside some spectacular acts and cannot wait to dance and sing at this great family event.”

Nestled at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, Caribbean Gardens in Melbourne’s east will once again play home to Hello Sunshine following its two consecutive events in 2023 and 2024. Fast becoming Victoria’s new favourite festival grounds, with the picturesque green space providing the ultimate playground, Caribbean Gardens also played host to Melbourne’s Listen Out festival in 2023. And located just north of the Gold Coast’s iconic summer playground Surfers Paradise, the Broadwater Parklands is a stunning outdoor location that includes rockpools, a swimming enclosure and spaces for a plethora of fun activities for the whole family, and will host Hello Sunshine for the first time in 2025. The Parklands also recently played home to a variety of high-profile music events, including Pandemonium Festival, Lookout 2024, Queens of the Stone Age and more.

Tickets for Hello Sunshine go onsale to the general public on Friday September 6 at 9am AEST from www.hellosunshinefest.com.au.

written by the partae

Legendary Californian rock royalty, Stone Temple Pilots have today announced their long-awaited return to Australian shores this February/March to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Purple‘, the group’s chart-topping, multi-platinum sophomore album. To honour the impressive milestone, they’ll be performing this iconic album in its entirety at each show.

Kicking off at ICC Sydney Theatre on February 28, the tour will then move through Melbourne (headlining Hello Sunshine Festival), Adelaide, Newcastle, and Brisbane, before finishing up on the Gold Coast (Hello Sunshine Festival), with Aussie rock stalwarts, Wolfmother jumping in on the national run of shows to warm audiences up with their myriad of hits.

Tickets go on sale Friday 6 September at 9AM (AEST), for all information, visit www.teamwrktouring.com.

Released on June 7, 1994, Purple was the highly anticipated follow-up to Stone Temple Pilots’ 1992 debut, Core, which sold over eight million copies and earned a GRAMMY Award. The album debuted at number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and quickly became a fan favourite, selling over six million copies. Purple features some of the group’s most beloved tracks, including Interstate Love Song and Vasoline, which topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. It also includes Big Empty, a song that first appeared on the film soundtrack for The Crow. The song was a massive Top 10 hit on mainstream and modern rock charts and won the MTV Movie Award for Best Song in a Movie.

After the massive success of their North American Jubilee Tour, the band is excited to continue the celebration with their Aussie fans. As part of the run, Stone Temple Pilots will headline Australia’s fastest growing outdoor music festival, Hello Sunshine Festival in Melbourne and Gold Coast, with one-off side show performances in Sydney, Adelaide, Newcastle, and Brisbane.

Tickets to the ‘Purple’ anniversary tour go on sale Friday 6 September at 9AM (AEST), for further information, visit www.teamwrktouring.com.

Sydney Festival new opera celebrating Las Vegas’ Siegfried & Roy

by the partae September 3, 2024
written by the partae
Siegfried & Roy: The Unauthorised Opera

Sydney Festival is excited to announce the first major production of its 2025 program: a captivating new chamber opera inspired by the extraordinary lives of Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn, the legendary Las Vegas duo who became one of the hottest magic acts in entertainment history.

This unique production will be a centrepiece of the 2025 Festival, seamlessly blending powerful vocals, live magic and spectacular theatricality to bring the remarkable story of Siegfried and Roy to life. It captures their improbable rise to stardom and the tender vulnerability at the heart of their journey, co-written by New York trained composer-librettist Luke Di Somma (The Unruly Tourist, New Zealand Opera) co-written and directed by Constantine Costi, following his acclaimed production of Puccini’s Il Tabarro at Sydney Festival 2024.

Olivia Ansell, Festival Director, shared her enthusiasm, stating: “Sydney Festival is known for commissioning big, bold ideas by Australian creatives. This scintillating chamber opera by maverick writers Luke Di Somma and Con Costi chronicles the rags-to-riches journey of Siegfried and Roy, who, at their pre-millennium peak, achieved unprecedented popularity, becoming one of the highest grossing illusion acts in Las Vegas. Staged in our dedicated cabaret room at the Festival’s latest precinct – The Thirsty Mile, I’m certain this wickedly entertaining and larger than life spectacle will resonate with both seasoned opera enthusiasts and those new to the artform.”

Luke and Con, the creative forces behind the production, said: “We are so excited to be bringing Siegfried & Roy: The Unauthorised Opera to Sydney Festival this January. From the rags of post-war Germany to the riches of Las Vegas, Siegfried and Roy’s unlikely story is perfect fodder for a contemporary operatic comedy. Audiences can expect a show that is both funny and tragic, packed with great tunes sung by some of the best voices in the country. We can’t wait!”

From their humble beginnings in poverty-stricken Bremen to their rise as one of the longest running magic acts in Las Vegas (1967-2003), Siegfried and Roy’s story is one of wonder and deep companionship.

Taking on the role of Roy is Kanen Breen, one of Australia’s leading operatic tenors, who has starred in major roles including Camille in The Merry Widow, Monostatos in The Magic Flute, and most recently, Polonius in Opera Australia’s outstanding production of Hamlet by Brett Dean and Matthew Jocelyn. He is joined by Christopher Tonkin as Siegfried, an acclaimed Australian baritone with international recognition for roles such as Marcello in La Bohème and Chou En-lai in Nixon in China. Tonkin has performed in over 30 roles, including a six-year residency as principal baritone at Staatsoper Hannover, Germany.

The cast also features some of the country’s brightest talents; Cathy-Di Zhang, Louis Hurley, Simon Lobelson and Russell Harcourt.

This production is a fascinating take on their extraordinary journey. It highlights their unbreakable and often co-dependent bond as best friends and creative partners and includes the presence of their beloved tiger, Mantacore. This brand-new Australian production captures the splendour and grandeur of their remarkable lives.

Siegfried & Roy: The Unauthorised Opera will run from 8–25 January 2025, at Sydney Theatre Company, Wharf 1 Theatre (The Thirsty Mile), Walsh Bay, Sydney.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday 3 September 2024. For more information, visit: sydneyfestival.org.au

Audio Obscura makes a stunning festival debut

by the partae August 29, 2024
written by the partae

The very first edition of the Audio Obscura Festival was nothing short of a sensational success, thanks to a perfect mix of contemporary art and cultural heritage. The festival presented an impressive lineup featuring big names such as Adriatique, Partiboi69, Chris Stussy, The Martinez Brothers, and many more. Moreover, the festival marked a notable first for both Audio Obscura and the historic Van Nelle Fabriek, which opened its doors for the very first time as an impressive event venue with both outdoor and indoor stages.

The Audio Obscura Festival put the Van Nelle Fabriek on the map as a Rotterdam festival location, with a mix of international headliners and local talent. With names like Dixon, Carlita, and AMÉMÉ, the festival delivered a world-class lineup, while Rotterdam icons like Benny Rodrigues, Cincity, Moody Mehran, and Suze Ijó ensured strong local representation. The spectacular performances created an atmosphere that made the temperature rise early in the day, that even some rain throughout the day couldn’t extinguish.

The Van Nelle Fabriek, originally a production site for coffee, tea, and tobacco, has grown into an architectural icon and UNESCO World Heritage Site. This unique location, where past and future come together, offers bright and flexible spaces, which welcomed thousands of festival-goers last Saturday. It’s no surprise that Audio Obscura, always on the lookout for special locations and new talent worldwide, has once again pushed the boundaries with their first foray into the world of festivals.

“We are very proud that we have been able to convert our many years of experience of organizing events at unique locations into our first festival at UNESCO World Heritage site the Van Nelle Fabriek in Rotterdam. From the energetic and fun audience to the artists who all delivered, from the production and logistics that turned out as we had planned and from no calamities to all the crowds positive feedback. Hopefully we have built a foundation for years to come in Rotterdam.” – Audio Obscura

The festival site offered a total of four stages with a mix of both indoor and outdoors: Under the Bridges, Tabaksfabriek, The Pit, and the Rotterdam stage. The Under the Bridges stage immediately caught the eye. Diagonal transport bridges, which normally connect the various buildings of the Van Nelle Fabriek, formed the symbolic heart of the Audio Obscura Festival. The Rotterdam stage, hosted by Heineken Silver & Cloud 8, served as a stage for showcasing Dutch talent. Cloud 8, born in the legendary Rotterdam Suicide Club, created an open-minded atmosphere where creativity was central. Under the guidance of Cloud 8’s own Cincity, attendees embarked on a musical trip full of soulful afrobeats and Afro house.

At The Pit stage, fans could enjoy an energetic mix of dynamic techno and electro from artists like Dax J b2b Daria Kolosova, Lucky Done Gone b2b Moody Mehran, and Partiboi69. Additionally, Dixon and Adriatique brought their signature sound to the industrial setting of the Tabaksfabriek stage, where melodic tones and a unique visual experience came together.

Audio Obscura is known for bringing together unique talent at the most extraordinary locations, and with this first festival edition, they have once again outdone themselves. The Audio Obscura Festival has positioned itself as a new highlight on the Dutch festival calendar. Pre-registration for the 2025 edition is already open via www.audio-obscura.com.

On October 17, 18, 19, and 20, Audio Obscura returns to the RAW Factory for three daytime events, two night events, and a 24-hour Innervisions with  me and Dixon event. Visitors will be treated to the cutting-edge sounds of underground legends including The Martinez Brothers, Seth Troxler, Partiboi69, Maceo Plex, Honey Dijon, and more. Tickets are already available via www.audio-obscura.com.

DJ AWARDS 2024 reveal nominees & Industry awards

by the partae August 29, 2024
written by the partae
Date: 02/10/24
Location: Club Chinois
Voting: https://djawards.com/vote-overview/

Following a four year break, the iconic DJ AWARDS is back for its 23rd Anniversary on October 2nd at Club Chinois in Ibiza. Ahead of that much anticipated event, the independently assembled nominees can now be revealed.

The DJ AWARDS were founded in 1998 by José Pascual and Lenny Krarup, and since then have been recognised as ‘an Oscars for electronic dance music’. Now under new ownership and with substantial investment, the awards are a vital way to celebrate and support global DJ culture and recognise high achievement across the whole sector with high-profile ceremonies that platform the best of the best in several different categories.

The theme for this first edition of the DJ AWARDS in its new era is Unity, which has always been a core principle of dance music. This theme reflects the need, which is greater than ever now, to bring people together, to celebrate our differences, to create new bonds both personally, musically and emotionally between people from all backgrounds and all different areas of the music industry.

Says Andy Grant, new owner of DJ AWARDS, “Music has power – the power to unite us, to cheer us up, to give us the chills, to instantly remind us of a long lost memory, to create a vibe, to set a mood, or to even motivate change. That is why we have chosen the theme of Unity for the DJ Awards 2024 reboot with the launch of our Best Dancefloor Memory user generated competition which will see everyone everywhere share their top memories via Instagram, tagging @thedjawards and our panel of judges will select someone from any corner of the globe to come to Ibiza and collect a genuine DJ Award that they can keep on the mantelpiece forever”

VOTE HERE

As such, a diverse, inclusive and independent industry panel has been assembled in order to draw up these nominations to ensure they are as fair and representative as possible. The categories to be voted on are long time genre-cornerstones of electronic music including House, Tech House, Drum & Bass and Techno, while the undeniably influential return of Progressive House and Trance will also be represented, as will newer breakthrough genres Organic House and Afro, both of which have become standout creative niches with vast followings all over the world and several pioneering new artists leading the charge.

The more main room sounds of International DJ will also be featured, while the world’s finest Live Acts will also be represented next to a Breakthrough category that looks to recognise the most exciting new names to have made their mark since the last awards four years ago.

Alongside these categories will be a comprehensive selection of Industry Awards with
winners voted for by industry professionals from the Association For Electronic Music (AFEM). They are split into two sections, firstly Global featuring Global Festival, What’s Hot Global – Outstanding Global Tour Award, Eye on…’USA’, Play It Back which is for the best charity contribution or outstanding achievement within or outside the electronic music scene, and Most Memorable Dance Floor Moment. The second section has a focus on the White Isle with Ibiza Track of the Summer, Ibiza Icon and Ibiza Party of the Summer.
The countdown is now on to what will be a historic night that recognises the most outstanding talents, musical innovations, and key contributions made in the electronic music community over the last few years.

SNAKEHIPS & EARTHGANG SHARE SNAKEGANG EP VOLUME. 1

by the partae August 29, 2024
written by the partae

UK production and DJ duo Snakehips and Atlanta hip hop duo EARTHGANG return today with the deluxe edition of their collaborative EP, SNAKEGANG EP Volume. 1 (Deluxe), featuring their brand new track ‘Don’t Rush’. LISTEN HERE.

A disco-infused cut, ‘Don’t Rush’ is an expansion on the project’s genre-subverting sonic experience in another showcase of the group’s creative dynamism and chemistry. A bold moment of disco-meets-hip-hop, ‘Don’t Rush’ is a high-energy anthem, with EARTHGANG’s signature flow and Snakehips’ vibrant instrumental.

Of the bonus track, Snakehips share ‘Don’t Rush’ was another demo that we started but didn’t quite finish in time to put on the SNAKEGANG EP. The response to the EP has been so great though so we figured we’d fix it up and drop it as a little bonus track for the fans as it was one of our favourites of the various other demos we had. It’s a bit of a party tune and has more of a disco kind of groove than the rest of the EP. Olu sings on the hook and the verses are really fun, it just feels like a vibe”. EARTHGANG continue, “This song was made in a space of just appreciating the life we have. Understanding the ebbs and flows of our human experience. Life is sweet shawty. We have to enjoy every moment and trust in divine timing.”

SNAKEGANG EP Volume. 1 is exhilarating from the first note, where Snakehips and EARTHGANG enter a new chapter at the pinnacle of their artistry. This dynamic EP highlights their eclectic collective talent, combining diverse sounds, compelling lyrics, and infectious energy – driven by their extraordinary creativity in the studio and on stage. Featuring releases ‘GLIMMER’ and ‘Been A Minute…’, featuring Sinéad Harnett, the EP was met with widespread press recognition from the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone, HYPEBEAST, Consequence, Acclaim Magazine and Fader, alongside radio support from triple j, CADA, 3RRR, HIT FM among others.

Oliver Lee and James Carter, the celebrated UK production and DJ duo known as Snakehips, have amassed over 2 billion streams, enchanting global audiences with their distinctive and evolving blend of house, disco, funk, pop, R&B, and hip hop. Their creative journey began in a Hong Kong sake bar in 2010, culminating in the 2015 smash hit ‘All My Friends’ featuring Tinashe and Chance The Rapper, which achieved platinum status in multiple countries and earned them the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song. In May 2023, the pair released their debut studio album, never worry, which featured collaborations with artists such as Muni Long, Daya, EARTHGANG, BIA, Lucky Daye, Tinashe, and Kilo Kish. Their single ‘Solitude’ with BIA & Lucky Daye swiftly ascended to the top of the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic chart. Renowned for their versatility, Snakehips have collaborated with Aminé, H.E.R., MØ, ZAYN, and Anderson .Paak among others.

EARTHGANG, the Atlanta-born Grammy-nominated duo comprising Olu (Johnny Venus) and WowGr8 (DocturDot), has been redefining hip-hop since before their signing to J. Cole’s Dreamville Records in 2017. Known for innovative albums, EPs, and mixtapes, they collaborate widely, including with J. Cole, Mac Miller, Snoop Dogg, Young Thug, Future, Kehlani, Wiz Khalifa, CeeLo Green, Gorillaz, and more. Their music explores R&B, jazz, gospel, and funk, traversing deep societal themes and existential questions. Their 2022 sophomore album Ghetto Gods explores self-discovery, spirituality, and social justice over buoyant southern beats. Their recent project EARTHGANG vs the Algorithm, featuring EPs RIP Human Art and ROBOPHOBIA, challenges digital-age creativity and artistic expression, solidifying their influence in contemporary music.

SNAKEGANG EP Volume. 1 (Deluxe) is out now, buy/stream it here.

THE GOOD THINGS FESTIVAL 2024 HUGE LINE-UP IS HERE

by the partae August 27, 2024
written by the partae

Are you ready for the madcap chaos of Australia’s largest travelling music festival? Good Things season returns with a head-spinning lineup fit for a fever dream. Across three East Coast dates, this year’s Good Things Festival will deliver a trip down the rabbit hole with a stacked bill of international heavyweights, old favourites, hungry up-and-comers, and Aussie staples. And in a boon for younger attendees, Sydney’s Centennial Park festival date will be a 16+ event for the first time!

No one has cultivated a cult of personality quite like KORN. As the coveted headliners for Good Things Festival 2024, the Californian nu-metal pioneers will be celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of their landmark self-titled debut album and a career trajectory that speak volumes: two GRAMMY® Award wins, multi-platinum album certifications, and over 40 million records sold worldwide. Continually pushing the limits of the alternative, metal, and rock across their back catalogue, KORN’s unwavering sonic vision incorporates everything from dubstep and hip-hop to the bagpipe sections of frontman Jonathan Davis. Forever for the freaks, KORN’s Good Things appearance will find them in fine form and off the leash.

Seeing SUM 41 will be a bittersweet occasion for dedicated Aussie fans, as the Good Things Festival acts as the band’s last-ever ‘Tour of the setting Sum’ tour Down Under. Pulling from their formative album trinity—All Killer No Filler (2001), Does This Look Infected? (2002), and Chuck (2004)—along with their recent Heaven :x: Hell double-LP, the Canadian rockers are determined to go out with a bang, one befitting their status as a beacon of millennial domination. Come for the high-energy pop punk, and stay for the heavy metal anthems.

Speaking of anthems, it’s hard to deny the impact VIOLENT FEMMES have had on the broad history of alternative music. The Milwaukee outfit have been festival mainstays throughout their awe-inspiring 40-year career, and direct influences on Pink, John Cusack, Mark Morris, The Pixies, and more. German heavy arena sensation ELECTRIC CALLBOY known for their viral hits like Hypa Hypa, We Got The Moves, RATATATA and their pulsing cover of Cascada’s Everytime We Touch have proven that the group’s blend of retro pop synths, arena rock, and metalcore is both a recipe for chart-topping success and captivating audiences worldwide.

After bringing their own curated The World Is A Vampire Festival to Australia last year, and the recent release of the band’s thirteenth studio album, Aghori Mhori Mei, The Smashing Pumpkins frontman BILLY CORGAN will wow the Good Things Festival crowd with a spirited set supported by The Delta Riggs as his backing band. Festival punters will be treated to tracks from CORGAN’s expansive solo catalogue as well as songs he’s written for The Smashing Pumpkins. MASTODON have racked up numerous accolades that transcend their sludge metal origins. Alongside collaborations with Game of Thrones, Adult Swim, and DC Comics, the Atlanta quartet finally took home a GRAMMY® Award after six career nods. 2021’s Hushed & Grim double-LP took meditations on grief and transformed them into moments of melodic mourning and raging bursts of energy. Guitarist/songwriter KERRY KING will bring a taste of his trademark fury to the Good Things Festival for 2024. With KING’s first solo LP outside of thrash titans Slayer, From Hell I Rise, unleashed on the world, expect a dose of blunt-force riffage and pointed lyrical themes with some Slayer classics thrown in as the kicker.

The long-awaited return of THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM to Australian shores has been almost a decade in the making. With the release of their highly anticipated comeback album, History Books, in October last year, it’s now Australia’s turn to be a part of the band’s rebirth. Newfound ARIA Hall of Famers JET will also get their shine on as they take to the stage to celebrate the recent twentieth anniversary of their multi-platinum debut album, 2003’s Get Born. Fans can expect to hear radio rock hits like Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Rollover DJ, and more. With their reputation as seasoned pros and one of the country’s most incredible live acts, punk rockers THE LIVING END will get the crowd pumping with iconic anthems like Second Solution and Prisoner of Society, making their only live shows for 2024 ones to remember. After playing their seminal Bricks Are Heavy LP on the road last year, 90s punk icons L7 return to give audiences another taste of Californian riot grrrl history including favourites like Pretend We’re Dead, Shitlist, Wargasm and more.

Sydney futurists NORTHLANE are global ambassadors for Australian metal, known for their exhilarating live show and unrivalled creative expression. With consecutive ARIA Award wins and #1 chart debuts already in the bag, the band’s latest Mirrors Edge EP is their most daring effort yet. Fans will also see BOWLING FOR SOUP on their first trip Down Under in over fifteen years. The Texan pop punkers are fresh off a pair of 2024 Download Festival performances, and celebrating the twentieth anniversary of their fan-favourite A Hangover You Don’t Deserve LP. While 2024 already belongs to ALPHA WOLF, their Good Things appearance is set to cap off the metalcore crew’s most successful year to date. The Melbourne quintet just wrapped up a completely sold-out Australian headline tour following the release of their acclaimed third full-length, Half Living Things.

For the alternative rockers, Orlando emo sensation SLEEPING WITH SIRENS are no strangers to devoted Australian crowds, and their Good Things Festival set will deliver on stratospheric hooks and huge sing-a-longs. Not to be outdone, Brisbane’s THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT will bring their emotionally charged performance to the festival stage, anchored by frontman Clint Boge’s powerful croon. 90s flagbearers 311 were last in the country in 1998 and have since maintained their standing as one of the genre’s most entertaining outfits with a groove-laden sound dipping into rap, reggae, and funk.

Award-winning songwriter, artist, and novelist AViVA will rally her “Outsider” community to the call with her idiosyncratic spin on pop-rock immediacy. Sacramento’s DESTROY BOYS will be eager to unleash tracks from their brand new Funeral Soundtrack #4 LP and expand on their bratty punk origins. With a career spanning half a century, legacy rockers DRAGON will showcase their heavy prog pedigree and penchant for soul-flavoured melodies. Meanwhile, DIY rock troubadour FRANK TURNER AND THE SLEEPING SOULS will mark another return to Australia as part of the Good Things Festival, this time supporting his acclaimed new album, Undefeated.

Pennsylvanian outfit FROM ASHES TO NEW have climbed to the front of the rock vanguard, embracing the freedom of hybridity and experimenting with hard rock, hip-hop, electronic, and alternative sounds. Known for stretching genre descriptors into alluring new forms, alt artist GRANDSON has netted over one billion streams and a dizzying list of high-profile collaborators including Mike Shinoda, Travis Barker, and Tom Morello. Backing up with another trip Down Under following 2023’s ‘The Midnight Demon Club’ tour, Cape Cod iconoclasts HIGHLY SUSPECT will bring their rule-breaking rock philosophy to the festival stage with cuts from their shiny new full-length, As Above, So Below. Swedish heavy purveyors IMMINENCE will introduce Aussie crowds to the uncompromising alt-metalcore vision of their bludgeoning fifth full-length,The Black—this is one set metalheads do not want to miss.

KILLING HEIDI will throw it back to the early 00s when their album debut Reflector became a four-time ARIA winner and mega-smash single Weir was an inescapable earworm, playing the record in full for the Good Things Festival crowd. As one of Britain’s breakout heavy exports, LOATHE have built a reputation for their intense, multi-media live show, as seen on a recent North American tour run supporting Knocked Loose. Mixing metalcore with shades of electronica, pop, and post-hardcore on their stunning debut full-length, Secrets Of The Future, Sydney newcomers RELIQA will dazzle with their intricate take on progressive metal stylings. Influenced by early 90s and 00s pop-punk, TAYLOR ACORN’s sound is imbued with youthful exuberance and relatability, tackling mental health struggles and head-on with catchy hooks and earnest vulnerability.

2024 also marks the return of the talented STAGE 666 Artists and their carnivalesque Freak Show lounge. Witness the knife-throwing, gravity defying stunts of host Captain Ruin, or be amazed by Princess Tweedle Needle’s daring feats of bodily transgression as the “princess of pain” performs the ‘human pincushion’ act, skewering her flesh with glee, swinging a beer keg with her lady bits. Direct from the underground nightclubs of Berlin, you don’t want to miss out on STAGE 666’s guest star!
