Olivia Rodrigo – Guts World Tour – 17 October 2024, Sydney

by the partae October 18, 2024
written by the partae

“Seeing you tonight? It’s a bad idea, right?”. The ‘Guts’ tour officially hits Sydney as the gen z’s very own punk rock princess Olivia Rodrigo explodes onto stage in a sparkling ensemble, opening the night with her hit single ‘Bad Idea Right?’ from her sophomore album ‘Guts’, a song that perfectly set the scene for the night with the five words “maybe I can fix him?”.

Since her hit single ‘Driver’s License’, Olivia’s life leapt from Disney stardom (starring in the hit series ‘High School Musical the Musical the Series’) to becoming the powerhouse pop icon she’s known as today. Her debut album ‘Sour’ instantly became a chart-topping success, dominating streaming platforms and garnering the hearts of millions worldwide. Her lyrical mix of teenage heartbreak and melodrama mixed with the hard hitting, distorted instrumentals instantly made her be known as a force to be reckoned with amongst the upcoming new artists of her generation, a sound that was seamlessly transitioned into her live performances.

The night went on like a theatrical spectacle, with Olivia creating moments within each part of the night highlighted by dynamic set designs and carefully curated outfit changes. Songs like “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl” and “Teenage Dream” offered us a rare glimpse into her own personal life, her super catchy and relatable lyrics echoing the room from the voices in the crowd. Lead single “Vampire” and “Making the Bed” gave us the signature Olivia ballads she’s known for while being backed by the absolutely gigantic wall of sound delivered from her band, while hard hitters “Pretty Isn’t Pretty” and “Traitor” showed us a more vulnerable side with themes that hit very close to home for a lot of the audience, seeing a piece of themselves in the sequin studded starlet.

Her set was broken into a mix of her upbeat and cheerful hits as well as some more intimate moments through her acoustic driven songs, with Olivia serenading the crowd through “Logical” and “Enough for You” sitting on the edge of the moon surrounded by a scene of stars. Her crowd engagement was next to none, the whole arena screaming in high pitch unison. Echoes of her lyrics bled through every seat, with “Déjà vu” and “Good 4 U” being personal standouts of the night, feet stomping and lungs running out of air as every person in the room (my posse and I very much included) yelled lyrics about revenge, heartbreak and longing so loud that by the end of the night, the only appropriate way to end the night was to look around and ask “Sydney, who hurt you?”

Olivia continues her performances at Qudos up until next Tuesday the 22nd of October – so on the chance that you luck out on Tixel, be sure to hit the glitter bar and be ready for a night full of beautifully chaotic catharsis.

KNOTFEST, the destination festival brand curated by SLIPKNOT, returns to Australia in 2025.

The music and counterculture experience will hit the East coast of Australia starting on Friday, February 28th at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, then heads to Brisbane on Sunday, March 2nd at Brisbane Showground before wrapping up in Sydney on Saturday, March 8th at Centennial Park.

Headlined by SLIPKNOT, the 2025 festival line-up also includes A DAY TO REMEMBER, BABYMETAL, SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL, POLARIS, WITHIN TEMPTATION, ENTER SHIKARI, HATEBREED, IN HEARTS WAKE, HEALTH, MISS MAY I, VENDED and SUNAMI.

Following their monumental performances launching Australia’s first ever KNOTFEST in 2023, SLIPKNOT will return down under in 2025 to headline proceedings for this not-to-be-missed rock and heavy music festival.

As always, attendees can expect a performance unlike any other, from a band who only get more thrilling, exciting and cathartic as time goes on. Having released a new record in 2022, The End, So Far (crowned at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart; their fourth consecutive album to do so), SLIPKNOT refuse to rest on past glories and continue to innovate, with fan favourites including as many new songs as older. Between enduring fan-revered singles like Duality, Psychosocial and Wait and Bleed, as well as deeper cuts and newer material over the years, SLIPKNOT’s drive and creativity bleeds through their jaw-dropping live performances.

In 2012, the journey to creating a platform of their own in KNOTFEST, was born out of SLIPKNOT’s dedication to creating a memorable live experience for audiences around the world. Headline slots at some of the world’s biggest festivals including Download, Wacken, Rock In Rio, Hellfest and more perfectly set SLIPKNOT up with the ambition to take things further; building their own festival that not only championed new waves of incredible talent, but enshrined their own status as one of the best bands to do it.”

No strangers to Australian shores, Florida-hailing quartet A DAY TO REMEMBER head to Australia for the first time since 2019. Wielding an irresistible melting pot of metalcore, pop-punk and post-hardcore, A DAY TO REMEMBER have remained one of the most versatile and vigorous acts to emerge from the early 2000s, with the group remaining an active force from the halcyon days of Myspace and physical media through to the modern era of TikTok and streaming. In command of hundreds of millions of Spotify streams and YouTube views, seven studio albums, including two certified Gold records, entirely sold out tours in their wake, and their own curated Self Help Festival.

Electrifying purveyors of kawaii metal, BABYMETAL, will bring their kaleidoscopic infusion of J-pop-meets-heavy-metal wizardry. BABYMETAL have taken the heavy world by storm since first forming in 2010. Between their exclusive global fanbase, THE ONE, ongoing chart success, including the rare feat as becoming the first Asian act to storm to the top of the Billboard Rock Albums chart, avant-garde creative aesthetics and direction, and a legion of celebrity fans, including Corey Taylor, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Deftones and Limp Bizkit, BABYMETAL unleashed their fourth studio album The Other One in 2023 and sold out their first Australian headline tour in 2023. The group also recently teamed up with German metal partystarters Electric Callboy on the hyper and heaving track RATATATA.

After obliterating Aussie crowds with their debut Australian performance as part of Good Things Festival in 2023, Russian deathcore behemoths SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL led by the formidable frontman, Alex Terrible, bring a ferocious blend of deathcore and blackened metal sonic onslaught that leaves no survivors. Their relentless pursuit of metal domination has led them to conquer stages across the globe, and their relentless dedication to their craft and their unwavering stance against violence, they have the ability to captivate audiences with their brutal yet melodic compositions.

Earning a reputation as one of the most formidable Australian heavy bands of their generation, Sydney’s POLARIS weld a gripping blend of melodic metalcore, electronica, lush post rock and heartfelt lyricism, with their most recent album, 2023’s Fatalism, earning the group their first ever #1 ARIA Albums Chart debut, winning AIR’s Best Independent Heavy Album award as well as securing their third ARIA Music Award nomination following nods for 2017’s The Mortal Coil and 2020’s The Death of Me. Along with their laundry list of accolades are sold-out headline tours of Australia and tours across the globe as well as appearing at multiple international festivals.

Pioneers of dark and anthemic music, WITHIN TEMPTATION, has captivated audiences for over 20 years and the Dutch powerhouse modern rockers will head to Australia for the very first time in 2025. Their career spans eight studio albums, over four million records sold and dominating the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts, WITHIN TEMPTATION are renowned for their powerful live performances.

British rockers ENTER SHIKARI exploded onto the scene in 2023 and their 2007 debut album Take to the Skies generated significant chart success and certified Gold status. A band who wield an exhilarating amalgamation of alt rock, and electronica along with drum and bass, dubstep and beyond, ENTER SHIKARI also delve into societal and personal themes, seen most recently on 2023’s A Kiss for the Whole World, which debuted #1 on the UK album charts. They have garnered multiple award wins and nominations over the years, including for their unforgettable onstage prowess.

American heavy metal hardcore icons HATEBREED are set to detonate their monstrous live show down under, celebrating 30 years as a band. Commemorating three decades in existence that has spanned eight studio albums, multiple Billboard 200 appearances and global fanbase, HATEBREED are also primed to salute their seminal sophomore album, 2002’s Perseverance, with Australian audiences. Perseverance paved the way for the fusion of hardcore and metal and received worldwide recognition hailing HATEBREED as forefronts of the genre.

Hailing from Byron Bay, Australian metalcore giants, IN HEARTS WAKE, are fresh off the release of their sixth studio album, Incarnation and national Australian headline tour. IN HEARTS WAKE fuse themes of social and environmental justice into their palpitating brand of metalcore, with millions of streams and a dedicated fanbase across the globe flourishing alongside the band’s environmental endeavours.

Adding to the brutality is Los Angeles industrial cult-faves HEALTH following their entirely sold out down under headline run earlier this year. An addictive and transcendent force to be reckoned with, HEALTH’s industrial-cum metal wiles lurch under your skin while balancing nihilism and mesmerising textures, witnessed most vividly on their 2023 full length album RAT WARS. All the way from Ohio, metal mavericks MISS MAY I will lend their trademark sonic fury to the KNOTFEST experience, following the recent unveiling of their entirely re-recorded 15th anniversary version of their beloved 2009 debut album Apologies Are for the Weak.

Hailing from Des Moines, Iowa, VENDED has been pushing the limits of combustible energy and raw aggression since their 2018 inception. Their bold, honest, passionate take on heavy music raises the flag for a new generation. Revolver heralded them as one of 10 Bands Leading the New Wave of Nü-Metal and they have shared stages supporting Bring Me The Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, and Knocked Loose and headliners/festivals in North America, Europe and South America.

San Fran bay area hardcore group SUNAMI formed in 2019. Originally intended as a short-lived joke band however after gaining notoriety for their violent debut live performance, the band continued past their planned time frame with the release of three EP’s and their self-titled debut album in 2023. Revolver credited them as “in the upper echelon of bands dominating the hardcore zeitgeist.”

KNOTFEST Australia 2025 will see the elevated return of the fan-favourite KNOTFEST MUSEUM. The enhanced museum will unveil iconic items throughout SLIPKNOT’s 25 year defining career including new activations, photo op, and more that immerse you into SLIPKNOT history/lore. This can’t miss event will bring the globally loved attraction back to Australia. As this event sold out last time, tickets are strictly limited in each city.

Early bird pre-sale tickets are on sale at 11am local time on Monday 21st October here and general public tickets go on sale at 3pm local time on Wednesday 23rd October here.

Presale tickets available now

Frontier Touring is proud to present award-winning Melbourne-raised, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Ben Abraham, returning home this December for two exclusive headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne: Ben Abraham’s Christmas Special.

Joined by special guests on stage, fans can catch the in-demand songwriter performing at the Metro Theatre, Sydney, on Wednesday 18 December and Forum Melbourne on Friday 20 December with a captivating two and a half hour show.

Renowned for his talent for pairing profoundly personal lyrics with soulful and cinematic indie folk with electronic flourishes, as heard on tracks such as ‘Never Been Better’, ‘If I Didn’t Love You’, ‘This Is On Me – ft. Sara Bareilles’ and more, Ben’s annual Christmas shows are not to be missed. Starting the night with his full band performing original music, fans can expect an indie ‘carols by candlelight’ second set featuring a few special guests (past alumni including the likes of Vance Joy and Gotye).

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday 16 October (12pm AEDT) via frontiertouring.com/benabraham. Frontier Members can get early access via the Frontier Presale, which starts today: Monday 14 October (11am AEDT) – see website for details.

WATCH: Ben Abraham – “Never Been Better (Walk + Sing with Lily James)”

After years of working as a songwriter for other artists – including co-writing Kesha’s double-platinum, GRAMMY nominated smash hit ‘Praying’ – Abraham released his sophomore album, Friendly Fire, in 2022. Labelled “spectacular” by website Essentially Pop, the record captured Abraham’s journey of losing faith after a painful breakup. 2024 has been a year of new beginnings: newly independent, Ben is excited to be releasing new music… some of which fans may get to hear at these special shows.

Don’t miss the one and only Ben Abraham, when he returns home to Melbourne and Sydney this December!

2025 Australian Open Music Lineup Announced, Tickets On Sale

by the partae October 10, 2024
written by the partae

The Australian Open has unveiled an incredible music lineup for 2025 under its new entertainment banner, AO LIVE. The only music event to be held at a Grand Slam worldwide, AO LIVE will take place across three massive days during the Australian Open tournament in January 2025. This year’s entertainment will feature the biggest lineup to date, headlined by globally renowned artists including Benson Boone, Kaytranada, Kesha, Armand Van Helden and more.

AO LIVE’s lineup, programmed by Untitled Group – Australia’s largest independent music and events promoter – will offer a packed schedule of live performances across the AO precinct featuring bands, solo performers and DJs. The three days of entertainment, from January 23rd to 25th, will take place at John Cain Arena, with two major evening performances leading to a festival-style grand finale on the last day.

First up on Thursday 23 January, pop sensation Benson Boone will take to the stage. The American singer-songwriter skyrocketed to stardom with over 1.9 billion global streams to his name. Benson made headlines with his memorable performance at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year, where he took home the award for Best Alternative Video.

Following Benson Boone is world-renowned DJ and producer Kaytranada, performing on Friday 24 January. The Grammy Award-winning Canadian artist is a household name in music globally, having opened for The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours Til Dawn’ Tour in 2022 and also performed at Coachella 2023. With two Grammy Awards and five nominations under his belt, Kaytranada’s blend of house, hip-hop, and electronic beats is set to ignite the dancefloor.

The final day of AO LIVE will coincide with the Women’s Finals on Saturday 25 January, delivering a full day of festival-style entertainment. Kicking off at 11am, the event will feature performances from multiple artists, culminating in a grand finale featuring pop icon Kesha and legendary DJ Armand Van Helden to close out the three day affair.

American DJ and producer, Armand Van Helden, celebrated for hits such as “My My My” and “You Don’t Know Me” featuring Duane Harden, continues to have an undeniable effect on dance music globally.

Grammy-nominated pop star, Kesha, boasts accolades from the MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards, and iHeartRadio Awards to name a few alongside an extensive discography including hit singles “Tik Tok”, “Timber” ft. Pitbull, “Die Young”, “Right Round” with Flo Rider and many more. Kesha is set to return to Australia for the first time in seven years to deliver a show-stopping performance, closing out the entire AO LIVE series.

“AO LIVE is an evolution of the AO’s music offering and will see live music and entertainment across the whole precinct over 21 days during January, from fan-favourite performers in Garden Square to in-demand DJ’s spinning anthems on Grand Slam Oval. AO LIVE has entertainment covered for all tastes and is all-inclusive on a Ground Pass ticket,” Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley said.

Any ticket purchased to AO LIVE automatically includes a ground pass for Australian Open 2025, allowing fans to not only enjoy world class music but witness incredible tennis, devour delicious food and beverage offerings and explore the magical atmosphere that Australian Open is globally recognised for. Tickets start from $89 offering exceptional value for world class entertainment.

Untitled Group, Australia’s largest independent music and events promoter, returns to program the Australian Open live entertainment for the third year. Untitled is best known for music festivals including Beyond The Valley, Wildlands, and Ability Fest.

KORN Only Australian Headline Show + Good Things Festival

by the partae October 8, 2024
written by the partae
Calling all Adelaide KORN fans – It’s On! Today, the Gobal metal icons announce a special one-off Good Things Festival 2024 headline sideshow for Adelaide, taking place on Wednesday 4 December at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Arena.

For decades, KORN have wielded a formidable reputation, spanning their early days spearheading the heavy music revolution of the mid 1990s through to their more recent works. In command of two GRAMMY® Award wins, multi-platinum album certifications, and over 40 million records sold worldwide, KORN have also remained an enduring fan favourite down under with three #1 albums in Australia under their belts, including their most recent 2022 full length Requiem.

Roaring into view in 1994 via their debut self-titled album, KORN have remained true leaders in their field, tirelessly seeking outside the box while sharpening their trademark concoction of downtuned guitars, eerie production, savage grooves, and gripping lyricism. Few who were there from day one will ever forget the likes of singles Blind and Daddy, or immortalised tracks Freak On a Leash and Got the Life that soundtracked the late 90s. So great was the impact of KORN’s hybrid take on heavy music at the time, their influence sparked Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed and many more, all following the undisputed leaders hailing from Bakersfield in California.

Over the years, KORN have also cultivated a ravenous following for their live shows, with their unwavering sonic vision incorporating everything from dubstep and hip-hop to the bagpipe sections of frontman Jonathan Davis. KORN balance brutality with melodic moments and mosh-pit-ready mayhem; like a well-oiled hurricane extremely well versed in how to put on a spectacle for the ages time and time again.

As the coveted headliners for Good Things Festival 2024, the KORN will off the leash and their headline show in Adelaide is one absolutely not to be missed!

Pete Murray Shares Single, Announces December Tour

by the partae October 7, 2024
written by the partae

Loading up the good vibes, today beloved Australian singer-songwriter Pete Murray returns with his new single and music video, Wouldn’t It Be Good. Soaked in grooves, sunny melodics and Murray’s powerfully soothing vocals, Wouldn’t It Be Good is a charismatic addition to 2024, as well as a perfect accompaniment to the summer months ahead; a fitting fact with Murray also set to embark on an extensive tour kicking off late December and closing out in January 2025.

Starting life with nothing but its opening riff percolating, Wouldn’t It Be Good not only evolved into slightly new sonic territory for Pete Murray; it also marked a shift in Murray’s creative process, with producer Luke Palmer (Dead Letter Circus) ultimately helping to solidify the radiant end result. “It just started with the opening riff then went to the two-chord verse,” shares Murray of Wouldn’t It Be Good’s origins. “I was really just searching for the chorus lyrics, and the music just seemed to fit in with the lyrics. It’s normally the other way around. I produced this song with the help of Luke Palmer, and it’s funny with this song because when I first wrote it and played it for some friends, it wasn’t getting a great reaction. But I still really liked the song and never gave up on it. Then I had my nephew Dylan Cattanach (aka Katanak) help me out on an early demo, and it was here that I really started to hear the potential of the song – but people still weren’t getting it. During the recording of the album, I even played it to Luke and he wasn’t that into it, so I left it until the very end of the album recording and I brought it up again and got Luke to help me with it. There is a really great drum groove with congas paying and I got Luke to play a bass line on it too. As soon as I heard the bass, acoustic and drums, I knew this was going to work and the whole song just fell into place after that. Even at this stage when the song started to fall into place, I think I had lost a bit of confidence with it and I said to Luke: “I’ll keep this song for the next record, but let’s just finish it anyway”. Instead, he was like: “No way this is one of my faves and should go on this album”, so we finished it off and now it’s the first single. Funny how things work.”

Coated in positivity, bustling with acoustic magic and sparkling percussion, Wouldn’t It Be Good channels the essence of three iconic artists alongside Murray’s affable yet gripping trademark charm, as Murray himself puts it: “It’s John Lennon meets Jack Johnson and Rodriguez”. Mixed by Callam Howell, Wouldn’t It Be Good also saw Murray connect with OneHouse to conjure the accompanying visuals, featuring Murray and his accompanying band in full swing. “I’m keeping this video clip pretty simple and just filming the band play it in the studio – but I do have a funny video idea that involves a well-known tennis player but I can’t talk about this yet!” Murray reveals. “For this video, we worked with the talented OneHouse who are one of the most exciting up-and-coming production teams in the country. They’ve worked on a bunch of great short films that have been screened at festivals around the world recently as well as created some compelling music videos for acts including Boy & Bear and Steph Strings.”

One of Australia’s most enduring and endearing singer-songwriters, Pete Murray has gone on to sell over 1.2 million albums, amassed hundreds of millions of streams, release three ARIA chart-topping albums, and boasts 17 ARIA Award nominations amongst multiple other wins and nominations over the years. Emerging with his debut full length album The Game in 2001, Murray’s breakout sophomore album Feeler in 2003 cemented his status as one of the all-time greats. With ongoing hits along the way, including Better Days, Feeler, Opportunity and So Beautiful, Murray’s stirring blend of positivity with acoustic, rock and folk elements has flourished across decades, including with his most recent full length album Camacho in 2017. Now dominantly splitting his time in the studio and spending time with his family, Murray has also cultivated a stalwart reputation for his live show, from his own headline shows at home and abroad, as well as performances with the likes of Missy Higgins, Icehouse, Rob Thomas, Darryl Braithwaite and James Blunt to name a mere few. And in 2024, Murray has also returned to releasing music as an entirely independent artist. I’m now 100% back to being an independent artist, which I’m really excited about,” shares Murray. “Being independent again, the workload is a lot greater, but I’m enjoying being a part of every step, and hopefully the rewards will also be greater.”

With performances lined up to close out 2024 and heading into early 2025, fans can definitely expect to hear Wouldn’t It Be Good live when Pete Murray takes the stage, kicking off on Friday December 20 in Miranda before heading around the country, with stops in regional New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Western Australia. But fret not if the Pete Murray live experience doesn’t head to a town near you; the man himself has also just launched the Play At Your Place competition, offering fans a chance to go in the running to have Pete Murray play an intimate, private performance at their own home; just by signing up to his mailing list, one lucky winner will score the ultimate bragging rights and an unforgettable experience, head to petemurray.com.

And regardless of where you catch Pete Murray live in action this summer, one thing is guaranteed: he couldn’t be happier to celebrate the brand new track Wouldn’t It Be Good onstage as 2024 draws to a close and we welcome 2025, with the latest single set to shine alongside many other favourites. “You will definitely be hearing Wouldn’t It Be Good that’s for sure,” reveals Murray of his upcoming performances. “It is a great summer song and will blend in to all my other songs. I’m hoping it will be a fan favourite by the end of the tour. It’s always exciting growing as an artist and writing and recording new songs. I’m loving the groove on this track, so it’s going to be a fun one to play live.”

Wouldn’t It Be Good is out today.
