UNI/VS Release “A Chosen Death” announce East Coast headliner

UNI/VS share reflective new single “A Chosen Death” and announce East Coast headliner

Brisbane metalcore outfit UNI/VS has returned with their latest single, A Chosen Death, alongside the announcement of their A Chosen Death Australian Tour, which will run across the East Coast in October and November. Tickets are on sale now!

Their first release of the year, A Chosen Death is a fierce return from the four-piece, blending chugging guitar riffs, intense vocals, and emotional cleans. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Garath Hargreaves (Wildheart, Young Lions), the song explores life post-pandemic and questions the increasingly polarized and unhinged narratives often portrayed in traditional media.

“We wanted to pose the question, ‘Can we really trust the narrative of our elected leaders or that of whomever is pulling their strings?’” the band explains. “We hope to encourage critical thinking and observation, as well as inspire hope that if we all speak our truth, things might improve.”

The band will bring their explosive live performances to five shows across Australia in October and November. Presented by Stronghold Booking and joined by special guests st.sinner, the tour will kick off at The Valley Loft in Brisbane on October 4, followed by The Burdekin Hotel in Sydney on October 12, La La La’s in Wollongong on October 13, Laundry Bar in Melbourne on November 2, and concluding at Crown & Anchor in Adelaide on November 3.

UNI/VS, consisting of Scott Willis (vocals), Michael Ryan (guitar/vocals), Nik Sudweeks (drums), and Shaw Schmidt (bass), formed in Brisbane in 2017 and quickly gained recognition in Australia’s heavy music scene. Known for their melodic hooks, crushing breakdowns, and introspective lyrics, the band has earned a loyal following and toured extensively across the country, sharing stages with acts such as Volumes (US), Gravemind, Patient Sixty-Seven, and Crooked Royals (NZ).

With hundreds of thousands of digital streams to their name, UNI/VS is poised to continue their momentum with their new music and upcoming tour.

Don’t miss out on seeing UNI/VS live at a venue near you! A Chosen Death is streaming now on all major platforms.

Viva Acid Pays Homage to Chicago’s Acid House Scene with 4th Annual Talks and Workshops series

Chicago focused event organizers and cultural pioneers Viva Acid return for their highly anticipated fourth season. Celebrating Chicago’s vibrant Acid House scene and community from October 3rd – 6th at the Podlasie Club, in the city where it all began.

Spread across four days, Viva Acid will be hosting a series of accessible events, workshops and conversations that foster creativity and further inspire innovation.

Viva Acid 2024 champions collaboration and the development of deep belonging within our creative community. This year’s theme is transcending scarcity to build resilient, flourishing ecosystems through collective creativity. At a time where the path to success is ever-changing, these talks act as a reminder of the foundations the house music scene was built on, and the importance of connection in breaking through the noise.

Across the four days, talks will cover a range of industry subjects, from ‘Maximizing Reach’ to ‘Marketing Authenticity’, while workshops will focus on production, with topics including ‘Approaching Remixing’ and ‘Creating What You Hear’. Attendees to the event will receive immense value and knowledge from pioneers of the scene such as Gene Farris, DJ Hyperactive, Radio Slave, Glenn Underground and countless more.

Thursday 3rd will also see the premiere of ‘Children Of Acid’. The deep-dive documentary, produced by Viva Acid in partnership with production company Baffe, catalogs the rich tapestries of Chicago’s vibrant rave scene – a must see for anyone interested in the history and emergence of acid house.

It wouldn’t be a Acid House music conference without performances, and the line-up for Viva 2024’s parties is equally as impressive. Watch acts such as Radio Slave, Flores Negras, Lauren Flax b2b DJ Slugo, Steve Noah, Microdot, Glenn Underground and many more take to the stage, showcasing the skill that saw them rise to the top of their scene.

At a time when the goalposts are constantly changing and burgeoning artists can sometimes lose sight of music at the center of what they do, Viva Acid’s schedule is a timely reminder of the solid foundations on which the scene was built upon for those looking to make a real impact with their music.

Barcelona’s mythical ballroom, La Paloma, have announced their autumn club program. The club, which is the oldest in Europe, originally opened in 1903, has been operating a phased re-opening following several years of closure.

Throughout September the club will welcome Antal, Machinedrum (Live), Danilo Plessow B2B Hugo LX (All Night Long) and Fantastic Man, with Barcelona-based Mainline Collective and queer extravaganza Loco Bingo continuing their ongoing residencies.

Rolling into October, Egyptian Lover, Luke Una, Mr. Bongo, and Ruby Savage will all feature as part of the club’s Saturday program, with Glove Party also hosting an event. Booked in for Friday nights are Weval, GAZZI, softchaos, Chico Blanco and DJ Sweet6teen amongst others, with parties hosted by local crews PPL United, Mainline Collective and ODD CLUB.

Looking ahead to November, Theo Parrish (All Night Long), Nightmares On Wax, Toy Tonics DJs, Bradley Zero (All Night Long), and Hot Chip DJs have been locked in as the club switches to its ‘tardeo’ schedule for the winter, a traditional late evening format running from 19:30 – 02:00. Alongside this, dates are confirmed for local crews Poly Ritmo Club, Mainline Collective and Jokkoo Collective.

Located on the border of Sant Antoni and Raval, the 1,000-capacity club has already welcomed Francois K, Gilles Peterson, David Rodigan, Branko, Adrian Sherwood, Ge-Ology, Sadar Bahar and a host of other names this year.

The 1,000-capacity club is a work of art, dating from 1903, featuring a perfectly symmetrical interior maintained carefully since 1919, in a rich red and gold baroque style, with unreserved booth seating available at dancefloor level and on the upstairs balcony floor.

The club was previously closed for some years, but has become a welcome re-addition to Barcelona’s nightlife since undergoing a phased re-opening across the last 18 months.

Mysteryland’s groundbreaking finale: A tribute to life and nature

by the partae September 10, 2024
written by the partae

Visitors are blown away by a 10-minute choreography with fully integrated 600 drones, fireworks, 3D video, lights, music, and vocals

After a three-day sun-drenched weekend, Mysteryland once again solidified its position as a pioneer in the festival world with a breathtaking and unprecedented finale that left attendees in awe. For the first time ever, a 10-minute choreography seamlessly combined 600 drones, fireworks, 3D video, lights, music, and vocals into a spectacular end show unlike anything seen before. This cutting-edge performance, developed in collaboration with TWOFIFTYK DRNS (known for their shows at Burning Man) and world’s biggest beer brand BUD, pushed the boundaries of festival experiences. The drones were fully integrated into the finale, transforming the stage from a 30-meter centerpiece into a towering 120-meter-high spectacle of light and technology.

Rosanne Janmaat, CEO ID&T: “I am completely overwhelmed by this next level show and beyond proud of our team. Special shout out to our creative team who created pure magic with this end show. We look back on a fantastic edition in which we took a wonderful step in a new direction with Mysteryland. ‘Celebrating life’ is central to everything we do, and it was very special to close this sunny edition with an end show of this size, in which that theme formed the common thread. We are grateful for our crew, partners, artists and of course our amazing visitors. We can’t wait to show them what we have in store for next year!”

Sander ter Braak, TWOFIFTYK DRNS: “What we created here with Mysteryland goes far beyond just a drone show. The 600 drones are part of a fully integrated 10-minute choreography of light, lasers, drones, video, music, vocals, and fireworks. This show is an experience where all these disciplines are integrated to create a new, immersive reality where the line between what is real and virtual is no longer visible.”

A key highlight of the show was a performance by fan favorite Genevieve Coté, known from Britain’s Got Talent, who enchanted the crowd with her famous nature and animal sounds. The entire finale revolved around the theme “Celebrate Life,” where “life” carried a dual meaning, with a special focus on nature. This profound message is especially poignant in times when the pressure on our environment is increasing.

Mysteryland has long been committed to sustainability, and this year was no different. The festival ran almost entirely on green, locally sourced energy, continuing its tradition of leading the way in environmentally conscious event production.

The festival offers a stage to no less than 300 artists from different countries representing all genres in the electronic music spectrum, there were many performers that surprised visitors and the entire site was full with decorative objects and light installations that amazed them.

As Mysteryland 2024 concludes on a high note, this unforgettable end show serves as a powerful reminder of the festival’s dedication to innovation, nature, and celebration. The dates for the 2025 edition are already set: 22 – 24 September 2025 and visitors can preregister via this link. The full end show will be available on Mysteryland’s YouTube channel very soon.

The Roots (USA): Australian Tour, News Years Day 2025!

by the partae September 4, 2024
written by the partae

MG Live and Frontier Touring proudly announce Grammy award-winning hip-hop visionaries The Roots east coast tour for January 2025 – the band’s first Australian headline tour in 12 years! Joining The Roots at all shows as special guests will be US legendary Brooklyn based MC Talib Kweli and three-time Grammy nominated songwriter from Melbourne, Nai Palm.

Frontier Member presale commences Tuesday 10 September from 1pm local before tickets go on sale Wednesday 11 September from 2pm local time. Tickets via frontiertouring.com/theroots

Kicking off 2025, Melbourne fans will be lucky enough to enjoy an evening with The Roots at Melbourne’s beautiful Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Wednesday 1 January to celebrate New Years Day before heading to Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Thursday 2 January, with a final AU show at Brisbane’s Eatons Hill Outdoors on Friday 3 January.

“a hip-hop group like no other keep their freak-flag flying” ★★★★ – The Guardian

“arguably Hip-Hop’s greatest band ever: The Roots” – Syphersights

The Roots were co-founded by childhood friends Black Thought and Questlove in 1987 with their passionate and innovative approach to hip-hop playing underground gigs in Philadelphia, New York and across Europe. From releasing their debut album Organix in 1993, the band have gone on to release 11 studio albums and released legendary hip-hop hits including ‘You Got Me ft. Erykah Badu’, ‘Hang in There (with John Legend)’, ‘The Seed (2.0) ft. Cody ChesnuTT’, ‘Never ft. Patty Crash’, ‘The Next Moment’, ‘What They Do’ and ‘Don’t Say Nuthin’’. In 2009, the band began their tenure as house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Displaying an impeccable knack for versatility and improvisation, the band have become a fixture on television screens across the world to this day cementing their place within pop culture history. Questlove also serves as the show’s Musical Director.

After nearly 20 years of releasing mesmerizing music, Talib Kweli stands as one of the world’s most talented and most accomplished Hip Hop artists. Whether working with Mos Def as one-half of Black Star, partnering with producer Hi-Tek for Reflection Eternal, releasing landmark solo material or collaborating with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Just Blaze, J Dilla, or Madlib, Kweli commands attention by delivering top-tier lyricism, crafting captivating stories and showing the ability to rhyme over virtually any type of instrumental.

In 2011, Kweli founded Javotti Media, which is self-defined as “a platform for independent thinkers and doers.” Kweli has set out to make Javotti Media (which released his 2011 album, Gutter Rainbows, and is named after his paternal grandmother) into a media powerhouse that releases music, films and books.
