Predicted as “Australia’s electronic breakthrough artist of 2019” by Finding Figaro, Melbourne-based producer is living up to the hype with his latest release ‘Dreams’, a two track EP infusing elements of acid and garage house.
Following the success of his collaboration with James Pepper ‘See The Light / If You Only Knew’ mid last year, ‘Dreams’ delivers two crisp house tracks in the midst of Australia’s festival season.
The title track ‘Dreams’ features a sample handpicked from a 1970s blues track. Being the longest song he’s ever released, ‘Dreams’ was influenced by the early stages of a relationship, when the other person is the centre of your world.
Drawing inspiration from house heavyweights John Wink and Bicep, the following track ‘Black Mesa’ contrasts dreamy melodies with acid basslines, in a way that distinguishes it from other acid break tracks.
“I wanted the two elements to crash together and felt that emotive edge is what makes my sound in a way,” explains producer Zak Degenhardt.
Cassettes For Kids has a number of shows under his belt such as Pitch Music and Arts (preview here), Lost Paradise, The Wool Store Warehouse, Duke Street Block Party as well as headlining Australia’s best clubs – XE54 & Civic Underground and securing a coveted slot on triple j’s mix up segment. Always a trusted selector, he has warmed dancefloors for the likes of DJ Koze, KiNK, ANNA, John Talabot and many more. Well-respected by his contemporaries, Cassettes For Kids’ tunes have been spun by the likes of Black Loops & Kettama. Even featuring in Kettama’s recent Rinse FM mix.
